The food is great and I've always been served very well by a smiling staff. My favorite appetizer is the Dancing Shrimp and all noodles are great :)

We found this place because we really wanted authentic thai specifically. The ambience and service were good, however the food was somewhat lacking. My boyfriend and I both ordered the tofu pad see ew, and it was clear they don't cook tofu often as it was somewhat overcooked. His was a 3 on the spice scale mine was 1. 3 was hot and he like the amount of spice but got a stomach ache. Mine was fine but a little bland (I don't like spicy food much). The waitress was kind enough to bring a spice tray over when I asked but the spices offered were (for lack of a better word) gross. Veggie spring rolls were good. TLDR: average meal and experience, will consider returning.

Food: Came here and got the chicken pad thai ($14). It was a decent amount but the pad thai was kind of sugary. I got spicy level 4, the highest is 5. It was basically like mild spicy which I liked. It was average pad thai. I think if you're really craving thai then come here. They have other Thai food too. Location: It's near the Westin pass the riverfront so it's kind of far. I stayed at the westin so I came here. There's not that many food options so if you work around here you will probably end up here. Decor and Service: The decor was nice and they had a live band singing/playing. Service was friendly.

Overall this restaurant was ok, not great and not too bad either. I've eaten in many better Thai restaurants..I ordered lotus flower for appetizer which per the menu was pan fried tofu but it was deep fried and extremely greasy, dint taste good either, so I sent it back as it wasn't what I expected from the description! For entree, I had the Pad Khi Mao, some of it was hot and some wasn't, almost like when you microwave and it doesn't get evenly heated, leaving pockets of heat. Also, I ordered medium spicy but it wasn't spicy enough so I asked for some chili oil and was given chilli flakes and some oil/sauce separately, pretty strange! Adding spice did enhance the taste of the noodles though! For dessert, I had the death by chocolate which looked great but tasted okay.

First time in a THAI restaurant. Maybe the last. The wait staff was over whelmed to the point that we waited almost one hour for the apps and almost behind that came the main course. Drinks were OK . Food was small portioned somewhat tasty . They did warn you by the heat rating system. Had the ISSANE SATE & FRIED RICE w/CHICHEN. Never had fried rice like this before. Prices were high for the size of the plate. We beat the crowds but this did not help. We were second couple in and 3 couples after were gone by the time we got the bill. OH WELL, live and learn.

Had the #3 spice level of Yellow Curry with Tofu and it was tasty and filling. It was nice to sit outside on the Riverwalk while enjoying the meal. Attentive service - initially served the the curry with chicken. Alerted the waiter and a replacement with Tofu arrived quickly. Plan to come back and try other items on the menu.

We were looking for Asian food in the area. We originally wanted Kooma because my step daughter wanted the food there but they were closed. We went a few blocks down and found this gem. We walked in and the decor was beautiful. Being Asian I was skeptical because there were no Asian employees. I questioned the authenticity. We sat down and ordered drinks. My fiance took the waiter's recommendation on the Thai basil mojito. It was delicious! We ordered the floating market appetizer sampler and everything was very tasty. My fiance and I shared the chicken green curry and the shrimp pad Thai. We got both spicy and it was definitely spicy. We loved it. My step daughter liked the flavor of the green curry but it was too spicy for her taste. We were shocked because she is a picky eater and normally doesn't like curry. We also had the ubon fried rice and the larb. She liked those dishes too. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back. Oh they also had a live local band playing which liven things up on a Sunday evening.

Thai food here was very flavorful and full of heat. For those that love spicy food and exotic food this place is a definite must try.
(4)Toha N.
Good authentic Thai food. Love the papaya salad with grill shrimp. Coconut curry soup also very good.
(4)Katie K.
While the food was acceptable, the service was horrible. We waited for over 25 minutes for drinks. I bussed our table myself, because the appetizers were long done and no one ever came back. I asked 3 times for water, and finally got it. The food was not hot when finally served. The level 3 of spice is not hot, but I must admit the curry dish was very well balanced. I won't go back.

The food is out of this world..... one and only place for the BEST thai food.... everything and anything is good in the menu... basically open up the menu close your eyes and place ur finger anywhere n guarantee u are going to love it.... Friday and Saturday nights tend to be pretty busy so you would have to wait for your food but it's worth it....
(4)Teresa R.
The food was excellent. The Staff was kind. Thay provided live entertainment we were there on Sunday evening. Your near the waterfront so when your finished eating you can take a walk. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did
(4)David M.
Have been here once but it was really good. Reminded us of our favorite Thai places in SoCal. Also they have craft beer and I like that. (Anytime I'm not the only Blithering Idiot at the table is a good dinner date.) Also, its right by the riverfront which is cool because water. You could totally carb up on Pad See Eaw before you cross fit your face off while your kids trampoline themselves into a coma. If you are going to cross fit your face off, I'd skip the craft beer though. Just stick with the noodles. The Pad Thai is pretty bodacious as well.

Just a tip for professionals in Wilmington: DO NOT try to get lunch here during your work day. I just waited 25 minutes before I finally got up to ask someone to take my order. I got a blank stare when I told the staff how long I was seated and waiting. I asked if I could just order take-out because I had to get back to the office. The response was an indifferent shrug and then after I asked again, I was told "that will take a very long time too." So I left.
(1)Kevin D.
Food was very good. Service was very slow. The wait staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. There were only 2 of them covering the whole floor at lunch rush. I couldn't see the kitchen, but given how long it too for the food to arrive, I'm guessing they were under staffed as well. I would certainly return when I wasn't time constrained. But I think lunch is not realistic.
(3)Mike C.
Well I heard mixed reviews and decided to give it a try and unfortunately I join the the negative reviewers. This place is great if you like to pay premium for average food and bad service. Unfortunately had to repeatedly stop a server to be helped and the portions are terribly small. As another tip, for some reason, this place adds a 40% markup to togo lunch orders! Example being the $10 lunch portion is for dine-in only, and you will pay the dinner price of $14 or so for your item.

Decor: 5 for sure. I love the buddha/bodhi statues and elephants. The tables are pretty well spread out, and the bar area is not loud. Very pleasant. Service: 4. I think they are somewhat understaffed. Our waitress gave us dessert for free since she took awhile to get our check, which wasn't necessary, but was nice. However my DC got the tempura in his doggy bag and it was supposed to be in mine. Food: Truly a 4, but I had to deduct one total star and I'll tell you why. The tempura vegetables were good and the sauce added a more complex flavor. The spice scale was pretty accurate to what was described so that was much appreciated. My DC had the green curry with chicken and the spice wasn't unbearable - but kicked in after a little while. I had tofu with potatoes and vegetables, spice level 2. Very tasty and a variety of vegetables, which I love! HOWEVER, the reason for the star deduction is that there was a piece of chicken in my leftovers. While part of me thinks it could be from the other leftovers, most of me knows that it was too well-disguised as looking like part of my dish to have come from the other set of leftovers. I didn't eat it, but I was disappointed. Yes I would go back here, and I will continue to be mindful next time of stray pieces of meat!
(3)stacey s.
Very good food. Drink menu is average. Owners and staff are extremely nice. Riverfront dining with outdoor seating.
(5)Rachael W.
If you like blackened pad Thai noodles that taste like burned popcorn, this is your place. Spice levels are according to what the chef thinks, not what you ask for. This restaurant is over priced if the food is good, but to get burned, over spiced pad Thai for $15? Won't be going back any time soon. Not worth it. My order should've gone right in the trash after the cook realized he left someone's dinner on the stove 10 min too long while he was on a cigarette break. Any cook or sever who is willing to serve food that looks and smells burned should be ashamed. Would've been happy to wait another 5 min for properly prepared food.
(1)Wayne Z.
I've been here a number of times and love their food and happy hour. Good food reasonably priced. The big drawback for me is their lack of consistency, whether it be their staff or heat index. Sometimes service can be really poor. Heat index? It doesn't mean anything. T h e very same dish with the very same heat index can vary dramatically. I've ordered at 3 and the heat was as I expected. I ordered it again and the heat was much more intense. I ordered it as a 2 the next time and it literally burned my throat the chilies were so intense. The other problem I find is with their jazz groups. I love the idea they have jazz groups 2 nights a week and they've been great. The problem is the place is small and very hard to listen and talk with people at your table. Unless you want to shout at each other, best you wait for their break or between numbers.
(3)Rozalyn R.
Food was delicious. I got the tom kar soup and pad see ew. Both was great, except that Pad see ew was tad bit sweet, other than that it was yummy. Spice level 3. Nice and hot.
(4)Amy S.
The food is delicious! My boyfriend and I shared green curry with chicken and pad see ew aka drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp! We got a spice level of 4 which was perfect! Alittle pricey for the food. You can get the same quality of food for a cheaper price at another Resturant. The waiter was extremely friendly and nice but service is very slow. Would come more often if prices were more affordable for the quantity and quality of food given!
(4)Abdul M.
The food was ok! Really small portions for the prices they are charging. They forget to give me two extra rice but didn't forget to charge me for them. When I called to let them know they asked me if I can come back to pick up but I live 20 mins away and said I can't, then they said they will have the manager call me back which he never did!!
(2)Denise T.
My first go with Thai cuisine and I wasn't impressed. I went for lunch with a group of friends. I had Geang Garee and my friends went with Pad Thai. We were cautioned by the waitress about how spicy the dishes could be. I like spice but thought I'd go with the middle of the road spice level. I was truly disappointed in my dishes lack of spice though. I guess middle of the road is playing it too safe. I will most likely give this place another try. Pick a different dish and up the anti on spice.
(3)Edward W.
This has been a mixed evening. My dinner was great but Mom's Pad Thai with crab have veggies, tofu and very little actual crab. Service was terrible. If you read my check-in, you saw that we finally got a table after ordering food to go because there were no tables. Because the take-out was taking so long, space opened up and we were seated. Then the waiting game started again. Thanks to Sherri (sp?) the hostess we at least had water and finally food. It seemed to me that the restaurant was understaffed and overwhelmed. We were told a couple of times that our check had to be changed from take out to in-house. That takes 30 minutes? And should you make the customer wait because your systems are inadequate? So now more than two hours from when we first arrived we are still waiting for the check. The ambience is nice but a bit noisy. However, after tonight's ordeal I can't say I will be back anytime soon. Oh and for the third time we have been advised about the "take out / in-house" issue. Frankly that is not my problem.
(2)John S.
I actually went here more for the live music as I am a jazz fan, and it was great. The food was a pleasant surprise also...way better than i was expecting. We got the chicken pad thai and green curry level 3...and it was very savory and just the right amount of heat for my tastes. If you stay at the Westin, i recommend you hop over to get a good meal.
(4)Austin H.
This is better than most restaurants in Wilmington. I enjoyed how they asked for spice levels, even though they inevitably got it wrong on my order (my noodles and curry were both supposed to be semi spicy but my curry was not spicy at all). I will definitely be back. I ordered food to go and it was a fast and efficient process.
(4)Patty B.
The staff is so friendly. They always make me feel welcome. The food is delicious and you can choose your level of spicy. Beware - I like spicy but level 2 is too hot for me. Level 1 is perfect. They have a wonderful happy hour with reasonable drink and appetizer prices. The bartenders are great. The restaurant is hidden on the river side of the River Front behind Planet Fitness and next to Timothy's. I highly recommend Ubon for lunch, dinner or happy hour.
(5)Sherry J.
Stopped in for a drink Friday night after happy hour at Big Fish. We missed all the specials unfortunately. I had a ginger pear drink that was pretty good, my friend had a dragon fruit drink that was great. The bartender was friendly and the bar wasn't too crowded for a Friday night. If we hadn't just eaten at Big Fish, I would have ordered something. I will come back to try the menu for sure.
(3)Su M.
good food. slow service. very small portions of food for entrées. tasty deserts. lunch combo is good but portions are small. ambience is good. sometimes live performances in the evening. worth a shot.
(4)Alessandra G.
Loved the signature rolls, pad see ew, fried rice, and cucumber martini! It's important to be honest with yourself about your spice tolerance when ordering. I'd say err on the lower side of 1-5 either way, and ask for 0 if you do not like spicy at all.
(5)Bella Marie W.
unfortunately restaurant is off my list. The spice on dishes are a nice heat, but the freshness of dishes is very questionable. The Yai's Signature Rolls are real greasy and did a serious number on my stomach later that evening. Thumbs up on the wait staff!
(2)Andrew B.
I ate lunch there about a week ago with my wife and our baby. The food was OK. One dish was an oil slick, and the portions weren't huge, but everything was edible. We ordered a 3-out-of-5 for spice level, and I'd say that's accurate. The price was fair. The service was great. The waiter couldn't have been more patient with us and our kid. (Yes, we ate outside.) Also, the riverfront location is great.
(3)Seb R.
Coconut soup was excellent, shrimp and steak pad Thai was good. Spiciness level of "2/5" wasn't remotely spicy. The service and atmosphere were very good, I think I will go back and consider revising this review to four stars
(3)William D.
Recently came here for the first time. I've heard good things about it. Had The Thai Guy Wings and Ma's Penang Meatballs for appetizers. They were very good. The sauce on wings were not too sweet, and not too spicy. The meatballs were amazing. They are bit-size meatballs that are served in penang curry with rice. I could of had that as a meal! For my actual meal, I had the Pad Kar Pow with chicken. I've had this dish and other Thai restaurants, and had thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the same experience at Ubon. The spicy levels are ranked 1-5, with 1 being mild, and 5 being extremely hot. 3 is consider jalapeno spicy, 4 is considered hababerno spicy, and 5 is considered ghost pepper spicy. I decided to go with level no. 4, and I the spiciness was satisfying. At first it did not seem that spicy, but as I continued eating, it continued to get spicier. Overall, it was a great experience. The only problem is that it can be a little pricey, but it is worth the price.
(4)Cameron W.
This place was fantastic. We came here for lunch and had an excellent meal. It was after the lunch rush, so the restaurant was a little empty. The yai rolls were excellent. I had the ginger chicken and it was fantastic. I had mine extra spicy (I could really taste the habaneros) while my wife had hers more on the mild side. We both enjoyed it. The portions were good, and there was a good balance between the chicken, vegetables, and sauce. The spring rolls were good. Service was excellent. Definitely recommended.
(4)Soujanya M.
Love this place! I come here once in every 2 weeks! I just think is one of the best thai places I have been to..!!
(5)David C.
You can really tell a Thai restaurant by the quality of its pad thai. It's the iconic dish, it's what everyone knows, it's easy to make, and people can cook it really well. I'm sitting here chewing on this pad thai from Ubon (that I've paid fourteen dollars for, which is way more than I thought it would cost [carryout]). It's basically unpalatable. Way too salty. Certain noodles undercooked. And the peanuts are stale! How much do fresh peanuts cost? Nothing? And why is there cauliflower in this? This has to be the worst pad thai I've ever had. Maybe the rest of their food is astonishingly good, but if they're so horrible with the basics, I wouldn't trust them for anything more.
(1)S Y.
Not very good thai food. the pad thai and pork/secret recipe dumpling were ok. quite pricey too.
(2)Marie C.
Came here a few weeks back with a friend and thought it was just ok. Since I'd already had a bite to eat I only had a drink and the egg roll appetizer. My friend ordered the Tom Kha which looked pretty good although he did mention it was thicker than he was used to. I actually forgot what kind of drink I got (was unmemorable I suppose) but I remember that it was super strong! I really liked that because most places skimp out. The egg roll was good, not too greasy or anything. As for the customer service, it was actually pretty good. I'd read that it was bad but I didn't experience anything bad here. We sat at the bar and the bartender was suer friendly and helpful. I had to knock a few stars because I recently went to Southeast Kitchen on Delaware Ave. and it was so delicious. It honestly made this place look kinda bad and unauthentic. I might come back if they have a happy hour but I'm not 100% sure I'd come back for the food.
(3)Mark M.
The service here is poor and getting worse. They don't even have a bartender any more at their bar! The food is great, however. I bet this place goes out of business soon which stinks because I am an original customer since it opened.
(2)Marisol R.
I love Ubon. It is located along the River in wilmington. The customer service is awesome. The Thai chicken wings are my brother's favorite. My husband likes their chicken pad Thai. I like the vegetable pad Thai, however they never make it spicy enough for me. I guess they have to cater to a majority of tongues that can not handle some spice.
(5)Lt D.
We placed an order for a co-worker's birthday and placed several orders for pick up. This order included several yai rolls, which we love. (Previous month we did the same for another co-worker without any problems.) I requested the total so I could collect everyone's monies for their order. The order take provided me a total and I gave them my phone number. When we get there they added a gratuity which was different from the amount I was given on the phone and did not have any more yai rolls and offered a substitute of spring rolls. Yai Rolls is the main reason we called. What was the reason for taking our numbers and not calling us to advise us they did not have what we wanted to order? The server also did not check our order before we left and some of our order was incorrect. Needless to say I paid the difference on my own credit card. I did not want to stiff them or my co-workers, (who told me when I got back I should have left the food.) I called the owner Norris the next evening to complain about the service we received. Norris was rude and almost refused to give me his name because he thought I was some type of solicitor. I eventually explained to him we eat take out from their establishment every often. Conclusion of the call after going back and forth several times was a free Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai and Yai Roll. Norris advised me to ask for him or Tina. Today, I call UBONS for my free food and request to speak with Norris. I was advised he need to call me back. After waiting 15 minutes and no call back I called back. I was advised by the server Norris was busy and he could not do my free meal today. SMH! Never again from me or my co-workers and I work for a large company.
(1)Mona P.
The food is amazing. The music, however, is ridiculously loud and wholly out of place. Been here twice in the past 2 weeks and both times we had fantastic meals. Fantastic service. And terrible, terrible ambiance because of the stupidly-loud music. That's why it gets 2 stars. Seriously, it's THAT LOUD.
(2)Penny M.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Food and service were wonderful. Enjoyed the entertainment as well. I am now a regular and always bring my out of town guest here.
(5)Ben G.
Great location on the Riverfront next to Timothy's, that area is really coming into it's own. But the Riverfront is in need of more & various ethnic food choices and Thai food is awesome. Service- 5 stars. We were greeted promptly and walked to our table by a host. Server was very attentive and polite. Food- 3.5 stars. Great Massaman Curry with rice, Pad See Ew lacked any depth of flavor & they spiced it up to make up for it, however good portion of veggies/noodles/protein. People that post about small size portions are crazy. Fried spring rolls were good but the dipping sauce was out of the bottle sweet & sour. Fried Yai's signature were good and a large portion but it came with the same disappointing sweet & sour sauce, no peanut sauce? Good selection of asian beers and liqueur. Atmosphere- 4 stars Well maintained and very clean with comfortable seating. Great marble bar area with 2 tvs. I would recommend anyone in the area to check it out.
(4)Amy C.
Have been here twice. The first time it was great. The second time it was pretty horrible. #1 they refused to do take-out because they were "too busy" inside. Uhm OK, don't like restaurants who offer take out "only when they feel like it." #2 so we waited for a table. The 25 minutes they claimed we would wait was more like 40 minutes, and we saw SEVERAL open tables that were just needing to be cleaned. And instead of cleaning one table and then seating us, they waited until ALL tables were clean and seated people who got there much, much later than us basically WITH us. It took forever for us to get an waiter as well though once we did get one, he was very nice and helpful. I got drunken noodles--was VERY spicy, the way I like it, but not enough noodles! Bonus points to our waiter who kept re-filling the water -- key with spicy Thai. Also, not sure the food is really authentic compared to other Thai places I've been to. Anyway, don't think we'll be back. I much prefer Nooddi-Thai in Glen Mills.
(2)Brian E.
Been here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. But be careful - dishes are extremely spicy! Good drink menu too. Everything is a little on the expensive side but you can usually find deals online.
(4)John J.
The Ubon fried rice with shrimp is absolutely delicious! Quiet, relaxed atmosphere with friendly hosts.
(5)Jason O.
Excellent service every time. The staff and management are very knowledgeable about the food they offer. They will even redo your order if it isn't hot enough (witnessed tonight). Try some duck with any noodle dish!
(5)Kelly M.
Food had good flavor but service was terrible! Waited for over an hour for our food, it was Luke warm when it finally came out. Asked for some kind of discount because of the wait and manager said no. Will not be coming back. Very disappointed in the way things were handled. Take care of your customers and they return.
(2)Christina W.
I've been searching for a Thai restaurant in Philadelphia is quite some time. After having no luck, I decided to move my search to Wilmington. This is where I found Ubon. A 45 minute drive from my apartment and it's absolutely worth it. Matter of fact I drove in some heavy rain last night just to enjoy some pad Thai. The food is always on point. Very tasty and you never have to wait long for your meal. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. It's clean, modern and close to the river. I highly recommend Ubon whether you're looking to enjoy an intimate meal or you're dining with a large party. I cannot say enough good things about Ubon!
(5)Scott O.
Excellent waiter; attentive without being intrusive. Very intuitive and personable. The food was excellent even though some didn't live up to my expectations. But that has to do with my personal taste, not quality. For instance, I wish the chicken wings were cooked longer and at a higher heat, but I know some like their chicken softer, rubbery, and more moist (less cooked). It wasn't cooked anything like the picture Sarah L. posted here. However, the sauce on it was incredible. I wish they sold it by the bottle! #3 was just right. The chefs special duck was a winner and worth a return just for that. The curry was okay. Mango cheesecake another win--the mango was tasty without competing with the rich creamy flavor of the cheesecake. I think YMMV with service. Our waiter was awesome, but a couple sitting across from us were seated and basically forgotten for about 15 minutes. Since they were right in my line of sight, it was hard not to notice when their annoyance started and then slowly increased while waiting. They were very patient. A person I thought was a hostess popped her head around the corner by my table, so I pointed that out to her. I basically got blown off and with a scowl. HUGE negative. When an employee looks and acts like they hate their job, that's a big warning sign. Turned out she was the bartender. NEVER going to this place for drinks, nor will I get anything other than a beer. Since she doesn't touch the food, I kind of feel okay coming back, but it's a huge gamble to drive out there to have poor service make a bigger impression than the food. She and the bad service I saw the couple receive dropped my rating two stars. I'm worried that my waiter might be the only shining star there. If I didn't see anything else, I'd have nothing but praise. So, service is either incredibly good (my experience) OR incredibly bad (witnessed), and the food overall was great and I'm looking forward to trying out more things in their menu.
(3)Charlie W.
This. Place. Is. BANGING. Try anything. And have some Thai beer. Its all good
(5)Gina R.
I've been here twice. I really like the food. The pad thai is good, but the service is really slow. They seem to have an issue seating more than five tables at lunch. All in all, the food is a definite step up from the owner's kiosk in the Riverfront market.
(3)Ted T.
Located with a great view right on the Wilmington Waterfront. The decor is nice casual dinning and the outdoor eating area is perfect for summer. The food is classic Thai with a modern flair. Really enjoy the spice levels and food has just the right amount of grease to be authentic without being overbearing. Loved it and will be back soon.
(5)Steve H.
The spring rolls. Oh sweet god those things are amazing. The meatballs. Thai meatballs...who knew? Again...amazabombs. So everything here is absolutely awesome except the traditional Thai stuff. That stuff is OK, but not stellar. For the price, I would expect something more for some of the main entrees. They are by no means bad...but they are kind of average. But those spring rolls. You. Must. Have. Some.
(4)Lateaya W.
We had a little bit of a wait because there were absolutely no seats inside or outside, although it's not a very large restaurant. We didn't mind though we were just taking it all in & enjoying the live jazz band that was there tonight. We had the Dancing Shrimp ($10) and Momochas ($8) for apps. I enjoyed both, loved the sweet chile sauce that came with the shrimp. My BF didn't enjoy the Momochas as much because he prefers something fried/crispy, they're not. They're steamed then pan seared to slightly brown. For our entrees BF had the shrimp ubon fried rice ($11.50), his was REALLLYYYY GOOD! I had the chicken Pad Khing stir fry ($12) which was really good as well, but my only issue with this was it was slightly too salty or seasoned for me. I'm not a big fan of soy sauce & that's what I was tasting. Also my heat level was a 2, BF's was a 3 but mines seemed spicier than his. Heat levels are from 1-5. My cocktail was the Red Lotus ($8) & it was yummy! We couldn't eat all of our entrees, especially because we wanted to try dessert. We wanted the ubon chocolate ganache, but they no longer have that, instead they had "Death by Chocolate" ($6.50). This was good as well, I just wish I had some vanilla bean ice cream to go with it . We were stuffed & couldn't finish it, but believe me we tried! Overall the atmosphere was great, the good was great as well as our waiter Jay.
(5)Sarah L.
I went again for lunch yesterday (this time I brought my mom). I tried the "Thai Guy Wings", hot, spicy and they were good; nice heat in my mouth. My mom had what I had yesterday, Momochas but they weren't as good and they were falling apart. I found out that Chef Wit wasn't there so that might have been why.

There are not many good Thai places in Delaware so I was excited to try this restaurant when it opened up and had high hopes. First of all, I had such hard time finding the restaurant especially since I visited at night. I knew it was next to Timothy's but I could not find that either. It is not facing the parking lot you park in but the riverfront. To find this place, you have to park and then walk towards the riverbank or port or whatever you call it, which was mad shady at night in an almost deserted parking lot. Then you'll see an open corridor with doors to businesses, and Ubon Thai Cuisine is pretty much all the way down at the end. Inside the restaurant, the decor was very appealing since this place just opened and was just freshly renovated. With the full bar, it looks like a place to go for a classy date. For starters, I ordered a thai iced tea. It was hands down the best thai iced tea I've ever had, very aromatic and rich with a deep orange color. The waiter said the tea was fresh brewed with cream added. I approved of the drink very much except they don't give you very much. It was probably 3/4 cup of drink in a wine glass and I finished it before the appetizer even came out. For appetizers, my friend and I ordered the Floating Market. It was a sampler platter with assorted dumplings, spring rolls, and chicken wings. There were 4 types of appetizers, with four chicken wings, two of each of the other appetizers, and 2 dipping sauces. Honestly it was not worth $17 price tag. For $17, I expected a elaborate party tray but it was nothing of the sort! Nothing on the platter was particularly memorable, partly because there was so little substance. If you were to share this sampler with another person, you'd only get to try one of each item. I did remember noting that the fried chicken wings just tasted like chicken wings sold at Buffalo Wild Wings with a thai-flavored wing sauce. The dipping sauces were plain ol' duck sauce and soy sauce with sugar. Please see photos I've posted and judge for yourself. Now for the main course, I ordered shrimp Pad See Ew because it had a lotus symbol next to the item on the menu (meaning family recipe), and my friend ordered beef stir fry with basil (Pad Kar Prow). The waiter messed up my order and brought me beef Pad See Ew instead of shrimp. I asked them to take it back and when another waiter brought me the shrimp Pad See Ew, he asked me in a harsh voice "was this what you wanted?" Perhaps I was imagining it but I thought his tone sounded like it was my fault they had made a mistake. As for the noodles and the stir fry, I'd say they were both very light and the ingredients were very fresh. The noodles here are not your usual sticky, slimy, saucy glob you get at other thai restaurants, which is a relief, but it wasn't the best either because it lacked much flavor. No white pepper, no fish sauce, no red chilli paste, or whatever else they put in thai cooking, just soy sauce flavor. My friend's stir fry was not greasy like most take out stir-fries but it was drenched in vegetable water! do not know why they didn't drain the vegetables but adding it to the rice made everything all mushy. The stir fry did not have a chargrilled wok taste to it. Instead, it was a bland boiled vegetable taste because it was so watered down. My friend also asked for his dish to be a 3 on their 1-5 scale of spiciness and it was barely spicy at all. So in the end neither of us was extremely satisfied with what we ordered especially factoring the extra $2-$3 price tag compared to what they charge for similar dishes at other Thai restaurants. For dessert, I saw that their menu featured Desserts by Dana. Dana apparently was the winner on TLC's Next Great Baker, so I was really tempted to try this master baker's creations. Ubon was out of the more popular desserts on their menu so I ended up getting the Chai Tea Infused Ganache. What ever the heck I got, it sure was not ganache. I thought ganache was suppose to have cream in it. Instead, my ganache tasted like dried up chewy frosting and pastry batter mixed together and molded into a round tart. I tried to justify the $6 price tag and was like "well I can see that the texture takes some very great baking skills to achieve because it's so consistently blended for it being probably flour and powdered sugar" but who am I kidding? It still tasted like chewy frosting no matter how consistent the texture it was. Dana probably made some great desserts for the show but the ganache was a let down. So, in conclusion. Ubon Thai Cuisine looks fun and fresh from the decor and hip atmosphere, but their food is majorly overpriced for the quality and quantity you get. If they move their location off of the waterfront where rent is less expensive, maybe they won't have to overcharge on the menu. Waiters also need to work on being more attentive and more suave to be on par with the fine-dining vibe the restaurant's trying to achieve.

Okay. We all know 5-stars are reserved for only those places that surprise you and overreach your expectations. This place met expectations I didn't know I had. I'm a Thai food enthusiast. So much so in fact that I've tried Thai food from over a dozen restaurants in 4 states (NJ, PA, DE, DC). So let's be honest here, I know my Thai. Ubon has been by far my favorite experience. If you're looking for some flavorful, authentic, unique and rich curry then try the Red Curry and the Ma's Famous Meatballs (Penang Curry appetizer). I never leave without a slice of their mango cheesecake, which is made elsewhere, but undoubtedly satisfying after such a decadent meal. My boyfriend loves the Pad Kra Pow for the veggies and gets it with tofu.

Love this place! Great food cooked to your level of spice. Friendly and efficient service. Nice decor. Food is authentic and the menu is just right. $15 bottles of wine is a great feature. Must go!

Terrible slow service! We waited an 1 1/2 for our food. I ordered the Pad Thai and it was very bland and uninspiring. The noodles were lukewarm and the chicken was dry and somewhat stringy. After our complaints about the wait and the undesirable fare to management they were somewhat dismissive. My father's food wasn't hot and they offered to take the food back to warm it. They returned his plate and it was still cold. At this point I was livid. The waiter then asked my father would he like to take his meal home to heat it. At this point I was beyond disbelief. I have tried to give the Delaware restaurant scene a chance but this situation solidifies my judgements. Never Again

Food, staff, and atmosphere are excellent. It's a great place to go after work/gym and blow off steam.

Wow. Easily the best egg rolls I have ever had in my life. My whole experience was edible happiness. I had the good fortune to meet with one of the owner/managers and they were extraordinarily friendly as well. I don't make it to Delaware often now that my cousin has graduated from U. Del (Go Blue Hens!), but when I do I know where I will be eating! Highly recommended!

BEWARE - they have started to add gratuity to tables with as few as two people . My friend and I were appalled to get our check today with an added gratuity. Pretty sure the waitress was trying to get double tipped. I have never heard of an establishment that automatically added gratuity to a table of two. It didn't help matters that the waitress never checked on us once throughout the meal and had an attitude when we asked about the added gratuity. As for the food, it's pretty good if they can ever get it right without me having to send it back. The level of spice on the fried rice has been inaccurate for the majority of times I have eaten here. Sorry, but the added gratuity on a table of two and the rudeness of the waitress left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not be frequenting this restaurant again anytime soon.

Go to Rasa and spare yourself the risk of dealing with the horrifically rude, bullying, and condescending managers at Ubon. I have eaten at Ubon many times. Without fail, every single time I have had an issue that a manager needs to address, the manager (and I have had the misfortune to deal with several of them) has been shockingly rude. Tonight was the last straw for me. I asked the manager to please not charge us for one dish because it was unsatisfactory and we couldn't eat it. In response, the manager sneered at me and replied "Maybe next time you should get something else" and refused to take the dish off our bill. He then complained loudly about my request to two other waiters right in front of me. At no point was I rude or obnoxious or did anything to "deserve" this kind of mistreatment. I was so horrified I didn't know what to say; I was nearly in tears I was so offended and embarrassed. Our waiter was equally shocked and promised to take care of it. I've never been treated so badly in a restaurant before and do not plan to subject myself to this place again.

2nd time here and did not disappoint! Had the Penang meatballs and ordered very spicy! We were on fire! Fiancée got the green curry extra spicy and I had the Pad See Ew extra spicy. Both were fantastic. Crowd was great and server was on top of things and very personable. Great experience and we will be back!

Awesome Thai food. You can pick 1-5 spicy level (5 is hot, really) for everything on their menu. If you can't take the heat, I suggest you go with 1 or 2 level.

HOT DAMN! I love this place, ok not that I got that out! The tom yum is delicious! Cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, onions, broccoli and two colors of bell peppers(yes people they do taste different) and just great! Watch out for the whole pieces of lemongrass though, they aren't edible and you will be in pain if it gets lodged in your throat. We have gotten take out three times and it has yet to disappoint. My 11 month old daughter loved the spring rolls. They were bursting with veggies. The pad thai is DELICIOUS I do wish I had two lime wedges but I won't be picky. It even reheats well, there is no oil or juices or oily sauce like some places. The noodles aren't mushy and overcooked either. If you order the shrimp there are like 10 to 12 of them so they aren't skimpy in anyway. Now as far as the spice level, they go from a 1-5 we got a three on a Sunday night, it wasn't that spicy you just had that little tingling sensation on your lips I added hot sauce for a little extra kick. The next time we ordered we got a three during lunch, my mouth was on FIRE! It was really good though but a bit to spicy it felt like other places fives. The last time I ordered a one just to compare I had that tingle I had the first time we ordered, added some hot sauce and was good. I think I will order a two next time just to see if that is my happy medium. I enjoy spice but I am not someone that wants it so hot you can't enjoy the flavor and yumminess (yes I made up a word). I think this is my favorite place to eat and is well worth the 20 minute drive. Oh they aren't open on Monday's and therefore I have decided to hibernate Sunday after 9pm night until Tuesday at 11am! Oh there is this Chocolate cake thing they have for dessert, it is a dollop of whip cream on chocolate icing and a thin layer of cake on top of chocolate mousse and then the a thin layer of cake and icing. HOLY COW that thing was HEAVEN! I don't even like chocolate cake or mousse.

So glad that I finally tried Ubon Thai. Waiter was very knowledgable and went out of his way to ensure that dietary restrictions would be taken into consideration. The new Veggie Spring Rolls appetizer was a great portion size - I even went back a few days later to get a "carry out" of them. One word of caution is the spice level. At other restaurants, I typically order mild plus. My Curry was a 1 and was definitely a bit overpowering. (My leftovers were more tolerable the next day). Waiter brought me a raspberry ice tea to help counter the spice factor ;) We'll be back to try some more menu items.

Visited UBON with a Restaurant.com gift card (I love to buy those to try new places). We took a nice stroll along the riverfront to get there. There is patio outside seating, although none available at the time of my visit. I was pleasently surprised with the interior decor and the friendly staff. I had a sangria which I thought was ok ( I am usually NOT one to waste alcohol but this just didnt do it for me) but the serving size was big! We ordered the spring roll appetizer which both my fiance and I loved. As for the meal, I ordered my pad thai as a "3" which I was told would be spicy and found that it was not at all. Overall I felt like the menu was rather repeative with the same proteins/veggies over different noodles. My Fiance and I were encouraged by the waiter to order both chicken and shrimp on our meals which he didnt inform me was an additional $4.75 charge to my entree. I wouldnt mind the extra charge if I specifically ordered the "upgrade" but didnt like the "oh you should get both, its delicious" and no mention of the charge (now a $10 addition to our dinner). Not to mention the shrimp was only $1.50 more ... so where did a $5 charge come from? Anyway..... Overall it was a ok dinner. there is a great (and very inexpensive) wine menu so feel free to drink up :).

We had such high hopes for this restaurant after all the newspaper write ups. Boy were we disappointed! The service was only marginal given that they were not overly busy. We had to remind the waiter that we had ordered tea and he made an excuse that they needed to heat water. How long does it take to heat 1 cup of water? Had to ask for him to fill the water glasses. Then he tried to take my husband's beer glass when he still had half a bottle of beer to pour into it. We hoped the food would make up for it. The three of us each ordered a different kind of curry (there are 4 to choose from). They came and all three looked and tasted exactly the same ... Too sweet, no spice, just thick coconut with a little red curry. I carefully chose my curry off the menu because it said it only had shrimp and vegetables and did not list potatoes like the others. It came loaded with potatoes. When I inquired I was told "all curries always have potatoes". I have been to Thailand...not the case! As I started eating I realized other ingredients listed on the menu were missing including lemongrass and nuts....it turns out that they made me the wrong curry dish. I let the waiter know and he did not offer to replace it. He bearly offered to credit my bill. When I told him that was not the point, he quickly moved on with no adjustment and just a bit of a sorry. He later came back and said that if I had the correct curry, the lemongrass it would have been blended into the sauce and not obvious. They completely missed the point that they served me the wrong order! There was absolutely nothing exciting about our dinner, this was one of the worst Thai I have had in the area and I would NOT recommend this if you want authentic food. Too bad as we could use a new good restaurant in the area.

Very good Thai maybe a little pricey but the lunch special is affordable and plentiful They give you spice level options. Spring rolls were fresh and crispy, not over done or oily. And the dipping sauce was not the usual "duck" sauce, it had fresh ginger and scallion.

The food is good but I agree it is pricey. I do love the $10 lunch menu very satisfying, I get rice noodles with veggies, tofu and chicken it comes with either 2 dumplings or 2 spring rolls your choice. Heat choices are #1 to #4 I ordered #3. It wasn't that hot. Other than that food is very good, great atmosphere but pricey. Next on the agenda gotta check out their happy hour! Bigg Guy Out!

Ahhh-ha! I am back. After a six month hiatus away from Yelping, I feel as if I have plenty to talk about. Anyway, on to the first review of many to come... Despite a few service hiccups my overall experience at Ubon was a good one. Last weekend 4 of us went out to dinner, and of the 4 us, I was the only one that had not sat down in the restaurant, having only had take out once before. I was very surprised to find the restaurant busy on Sat. night with an eclectic crowd who all seemed to be enjoying their night. For apps we ordered the meatballs, the beef jerky-like dish, and the egg roll/spring rolls. Out of the three, the meatballs were my favorite. Tender golf ball sized meatballs in a Thai curry sauce. Sold. The beef jerky dish had great kafir lime flavor, but the meat was over fried. I have had this type of dish before at Lotus of Siam in Vegas (best Thai restaurant I have ever been to), but this one struggled a bit. The egg rolls were cooked perfectly with great flavor. For an entree, I mixed it up a bit, and ordered the green papaya salad and the Tom Yum soup. Both were excellent. The papaya salad had just the right amount of heat, and loads of bright flavor and crunch, and was accompanied by a few shrimp. The soup was exactly what I wanted as well- sour, slightly salty, with veggies and chicken. The broth had great depth of flavor. I was very satisfied with what I had ordered. My wife ordered a rice noodle stir fry dish, and asked for it to be made Extra, Extra Spicy. When she asks for this to be done in most Thai, and Indian restaurants they don't kick it up enough, even when my wife tells them she won't send the dish back. Well, it turns out the chef at Ubon takes it on as a challenge to satisfy the customer, and my wife, who is also 16 weeks pregnant, had tears rolling down her cheeks with a silly grin on her face as she devoured the dish. I washed all my grub down with a Chang beer, and left Ubon pleasantly surprised, and happy. My only gripe was that when the entrees were served my dishes took an extra 5 minutes to hit the table. Our server was apologetic, and I wasn't too bothered by it. I have heard some stories from friends that have had bad service at Ubon, but our specific server was pleasant and gave me the recommendation to try the green papaya, which I really enjoyed. I will definitely return to Ubon, and spread the good word about it.

worst restaurant. It took 1 hour to get food twice and they never seem to care about it. And one time, a waiter yelled at us back for no reason because of pressure there. There are only 3+ people serving 50+ customers.
(1)Rob S.
Love the food here. Sauces are amazing. Very traditional Thai food. The owners take real pride in their work. They let you choose your spice levels so don't worry, you can go mild or wild hot. Great atmosphere. Very nice bar and great appetizers. LOVE it!
(5)Lauren W.
Great place. The atmosphere embraces Thai culture with a modern twist. Although it was busy, there was a certain zen vibe that never left me during my time there. The food was wonderful and the service was fabulous. Went with a total of 8 people, everyone had something different & everyone was pleased. Portions & prices are just right, and for each dish you pick how hot you want your sauce 1 is mild 5 is breath of fire...). Ask your server's advice for an appetizer bc there's a couple signature Ubon specialties you'll want to hear about. Excellent, friendly staff. Can't wait to go back! Would be good for lunch or dinner.

Authentic flavorful Thai food, romantic decor inside

This is the second time I have dined here. My wife and I were there last month and waited 30 minutes before we were waited on. We returned tonight because the entree was good. We were 4 and the restaurant was half full. It was 15 minutes before we were waited on and 30 minutes before we were served a drink. The waitress was very apologetic, but we waited too long for everything. I felt sorry for her that the management of the restaurant was so poor. The manager hovered around but did nothing to make the experience better. Not going back and recommend you don't go there.

Mixed experience. We have dined in several times and food is always excellent with good service. Tonight we ordered take-out and it was a disappointment. They charged us for an extra order of rice but discovered when we arrived home that they didn't include it. Also forgot side of hot peppers even though it was on the ticket. Who wants to drive another 20 minutes on a rainy night for extra rice and hot peppers? A phone call received only an apology. Green curry was awfully meager for $15... 5 shrimp and about a dozen green beans in sauce. Food tastes really good but they need to work on the details for us to become regular customers.
(2)Jamie B.
Very fresh, authentic and SPICY. I love spicy food. This is the perfect oppurtunity to have great sweet Thai sauces with a kick of chili. I ordered it to be a 4(1-5 scale) and it was awesome.
(4)Kerri M.
Ubon is fantastic. Me and my co-workers were obsessed over the holidays (taking a time out to lose those holiday pounds). Everything I've tried on the menu has great spice and flavor - the curries, the noodle dishes and hands down the best eggroll I've ever had. Good service and a cool atmosphere to boot. Give it a try.
(5)Allison B.
Disappointing first visit to Ubon. Although our party was sat promptly, that was the last thing that impressed me about the restaurant. Service was lacking at best. One of the members of our party didn't get her meal until well after everyone else (apparently the waitress forgot to put it in), drinks were not brought to the table (even after asking twice for a refill), and the waitress never came to check on us. Based on yelp reviews, this is not a "one off" occurance. Food was average, and had the service been better, we would have considered going back.
(1)Bradley C.
Just got take out for 5 people from here. Had to walk back in for plasticware - the server admitted that she didn't include it because she couldn't find it. Anyways, brought it back to the office, and we got 3 red curries instead of 2 reds and 1 massaman. I called, and the woman said that the chef remembered making a massaman as part of the order. Just said that I would have to bring it back to verify that the chef was incorrect. Didn't even apologize. Obviously won't be going back.

I am not usually a Thai food fan but this place is fantastic. Fresh ingredients, imaginative menu and very attentive service. Dining room is attractive and comfortable and bar is fun. Prices are very good, especially for the quality if food. I look forward to coming back often.

Not for vegetarians. I was so excited to hear there was a new Thai restaurant in town because Wilmington is pretty lacking in Asian cuisine beyond sushi and take-out American-Chinese. I think that if I weren't vegetarian, I would have been happier with my experience. Generally Thai restaurants have great vegetarian dishes because you can get everything "jae" in lieu of meat. However, both side options that came with the lunch specials had chicken, turkey and crab in them, and when I asked if I could sub in a vegetarian option (which were cheaper), I was told no. So I decided that I could just give the side to my husband, and I ordered soup in addition to my tofu pad thai. My soup, which I ordered as an appetizer, came when I was almost done with my meal. I figured she'd forgotten so I was surprised when it arrived with no mention of the fact that it's kind of weird to serve soup right when people are almost done eating. The kicker was that when I was almost done with my soup, I found pieces of chicken in the bottom! Very disappointing since my lunch, with the soup, totaled $16. I do have to say that my husband enjoyed the sides, and his pad see ew with tofu was delicious. Still, it was a pretty disappointing experience, particularly since my lunch, with the soup, totaled $16. Maybe we'll try to go for dinner some time and see if it's any better. Next time I'll inspect the food thoroughly for secret meat!
