I was pleasantly surprised by the food I had here. The mushroom topping was really good! Exactly the kind of mushrooms I like with a nice dressing. Brown rice could have been higher quality. I didn't try the meat but chicken looked descent.

Awesome Mexican Food! Definitely a good competitor for Chipotle!! Lots of varieties in sides and salsa. Bit pricier, but enjoyed the food and quantity.

The other YELP reviews are precise when they say this place like Chipotle. I would also compare them to Moe's or El Diablo in Trolley Square. The decor is eco-friendly with concrete floors and wooden accented walls. From the menu you can choose burritos, tacos, rice bowl, or a salad. I'm in love with their chicken soft shell taco's. They have many toppings for one to choose from. They don't go the extra mile and have exotic or gourmet toppings, but the toppings are fresh and of good quality. Don't forget to order a side of tortilla chips for an extra dollar. These chips are AWESOME! The rice bowl is good too. I like to order my food and sit by the window and people watch.

I bypass Moe's at least once a week to eat here. All ingredients are fresh. Nothing has a stale taste or that taste that it's been out all day. Employees are very nice but I'm a regular there. Here's some ordering advice... Order a salad rather than a rice bowl. It's almost the same thing for the same price but a larger portion. It has more lettuce but you can still had beans and rice to it.

Great food and friendly staff! Was impressed with the food and all of the salsa options. Def recommend!

I wish I had a 4 or 5 star experience. I went in to get chips and guacamole for the family. I stood in line for forever. There were two people working and I just wanted chips. I asked for the largest size because it was not clearly marked. She said they were sold by the pound. Great, I'll take a pound. And, I'd also like queso and guac. She shows me the standard size they give you with the burrito and says it's a dollar. Um, what can I do with a jello shot size of queso and a POUND of chips. I ask for the next largest size and she says i'ts 6 bucks or something. I say yes that's fine. She says a piece. Um, does it look like I can't afford to be here! You are in a strip mall lady. This is not a five star resort. She goes to the back for what appears to be eternity. I get home and discover they have given me the COLD &%^#% queso out of a bin in the back instead of the hot stuff up front. Then as she is ringing out the guy behind me and the lady in front of me she scans their frequent visitor card. I love loyalty cards. I wasn't asked if I had one. I wasn't offered one. Nothing. I got okay chips, good guac and cold %^^$%^* queso. Who does that? And, they are not the friendliest folks around.

Nice food. Pulled pork and Barbacoa are always my favorites. Stake taste okay, may be a bit dry. Highly recommend getting a reward card if you go there often.

Tierra is a great place to eat and to hang out with friends. Tierra is basically chipotle and is just as good. Definitely recommend to go here if you want some burritos or tacos.

Similar to Chipotle and Moe's, which is good. But their topping selection is too small, meat chunks were a bit on the large side (I got the steak). Not bad tasting but didn't wow me enough to stop me from driving the extra miles to Moe's.

My husband works at a local school, so whenever he can meet me for a quick lunch date, we do! We tried Tierra today and were very pleased. We both had rice bowls with carnitas for me and chicken for him - which were generous helpings. We added various vegetables, too. Total was 22 dollars, with drinks, which is a steal for this type of Mexican food. It tasted and looked fresh! We will return.

Always enjoy eating here, food is great and cheap. The menu is a little intimidating at first but the employees that have been working have been friendly and helpful. Their rewards program is simple and effective.

Close to work so I thought I'd give it a try. I was pretty disappointed. The selection want great, the service was mediocre, it was expensive for what it was & what I did get was edible but not at all good. I definitely won't be going back. I'll go to moe's if I want quick Mexican style food.

I've tried most of the Mexi Cali places in the area and Tierra is definitely my favorite. The food was great and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant has a really nice casual atmosphere and would be a fun spot to stop by with some friends. I definitely recommend trying their guacamole, seriously the best guac I've ever had.

I heard this place was finally open so I decided to check it out for lunch. I ordered a chicken burrito. All the ingredients looked fresh and it was nice they offered spicy options (unlike some chain places I won't mention here). Since the place is new the ambiance is lacking a little but hopefully that will change. The employees were all college age kids and really nice. I told them that it was my first time there and they told me of the different things they had available. After taking a couple bites the entire back end of my burrito blew out and fell into the container they had given me with my burrito. I asked if they would re-wrap it and they had no problem doing so. It was really tasty and I will be going back again (and most likely bringing a friend or two). Support local businesses!!

Stopped while in the vicinity just for a quick bite, good concept with the burritos but chicken was way too salty. Help not friendly. Will not return.

On a whim I decided to check this place out--right on my way to work, I was in a hurry and needed a quick late lunch. Since it was after whatever lunch rush the establishment may get there was no line and no wait. The service was good--let's face it, it's a food line behind the ordering counter and the employees are 20-something at most. But do not let this deter you--the burrito was excellent. Be prepared to either eat half and save the other half for later or be very hungry--these things are BIG. For folks in the Amherst, MA area this is not the same as Buenos. But it's very good close second for those of us down here in the "southland."

Okay, we finally tried this place for lunch today. I have been looking for restaurants that serve free range chicken and grass fed beef and Tierra Mexi-Cali seems to fit the bill. The main reason for stopping here was the fact that they use 'humanely' grown beef, chicken, and pork. I'm sorry we waited so long! My wife got a chicken salad with black beans and verde salsa. She liked the black beans (she's Latin, so that's a big compliment), but found the chicken too salty. I got a burrito with the barbacoa beef (fell off the wagon today), guac, mango-pineapple salsa, and black beans, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. It was huge. I liked it, but I should have picked a different salsa, as this was way too sweet for this combination. I agree with my wife, that the beans are very good. We shared chips and salsa. The chips are of the thick variety, and appear to be fresh made. Personally I prefer wafer-thin tortillas, but not everyone makes them the same way. Drink selections are fairly limited, which is not unusual for a small local establishment. For those who compare this Chipotle, I think the comparison does this restaurant a disservice. First, because of their use of all natural ingredients and commitment to low environmental impact. Second, the flavors are much different than Chipotle's. The similarities come in the menu selections. By the way, the have added quesadillas to the menu, which should make our children happy. They get four stars because they could do a little better on a few things, as noted above. The staff was friendly and fast. Overall, this was a good first impression and we will make this one of our regular lunch spots.

I often hear Tierra compared to other Mexican/Southwest fast-food burrito places, but Tierra is easily my favorite. The food is fresh, and the menu carries "naturally raised" meats and great vegetarian options. The staff is always friendly and lively, making for overall, consistently positive experiences.

Best place for Mexican style food. The ingredients are always fresh and the employees are always friendly. I can never decided between the quesadilla and burrito because both are amazing. I have been telling everyone I know to come here because the food is so good. Definitely worth 5 stars and definitely worth checking out.

This was recommended by a yelp friend - glad I tried it - I'll be back. Are you hungry? I mean really hungry -the burritos are seriously tummy stuffing. I ordered mine with just about everything possible along with chicken. In fact, it was so packed I had a blow out - well, not me personally, the wrap broke during assembly and they had to re-do it. I like the 'pick your fillings' assembly line style of this place and I love the freshness of the ingredients. Great staff and a good value.

My experience at Tierra was left me feeling extremely unsatisfied. While I'll give you that the food was exceptional, the service was less than average. As I walked up to the door, I noticed a girl with a Tierra shirt and hat on outside in front of the radio shack talking with someone. Seems normal enough if someone's on their break? I walked in and no one else was there. The petite girl with black hair I saw outside then walked in and served me and was not friendly or helpful at all. I found it extremely unprofessional that there was no one in the store when I walked in. In my most recent experience at Tierra, the same girl was in the store but not working, she was out talking with people while there was only one worker serving the food, and a line 5 people deep. She didn't jump in to help, but continued to talk in the seating area. I cannot fathom that type of behavior at work and while the food is awesome, it does not make me want to come back enough to deal with the service I've received both times. I am extremely unimpressed and shocked at the lack of people skill.

The food here is really good. Plenty of options and all very fresh and tasty. So far I've gotten the tacos, burrito, and salads and have enjoyed them all. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly. Would definitely recommend stopping in here for a bite.

This is a nice Mexican type restaurant if you are looking for something in-between a "fast-food" and a "sit-down and be waited on place." You put together your burrito, tacos, or salad, by telling them all the ingredients you want. And there are a lot of ingredients to choose from. Several meat choices, many vegetables, a variety of beans, cheese, and lots sauces/topppings to choose from. The ingredients are fresh, which is one of the selling points of this place. This is a nice place to go for a first-class "taco/buritto/salad" (no special entrees). My only complaint is that the servings are too large - they should have a "small" or "regular" size choice.

  • Erin R.

The food is good, but the service is a bit slow. The girls kind of seemed like it was a joke to serve you, but there was a bit of a line at lunch time and I had to get back to work. Very good salsa and guacamole, and I'm picky. It kind of looks like a "nice" fast food restaurant inside, it's dear yourself get your drink dump your left overs in the trash.

I wasn't expecting much from this place, I never do with food places in Delaware. I love Chipoltle, but this place was better. I got a salad, my bf got a barbacoa burrito. Everything was dee-lish (my bf said he liked the beef WAY better than Chipoltle's)!!! AND I love the fact that they are so close! We will def be regulars!

Stopped by here last week after reading all the positive yelp reviews. I had been going to Chipotle but since this place was closer to me, I decided to give it a try. Came in with some hefty expectations due to all the positive reviews but was somewhat let down. As other yelpers have already mentioned, the setup is a replica of Chipotle where the focus is on serving you organic food. Setup is an assembly line where you tell the server what you want on your burrito/taco/bowl. Same ingredients as Chipotle-your choice of chicken/steak/pork/guacamole, white or brown rice, pinto or black beans, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, onions, and a variety of salsa. I chose a chicken burrito with brown rice, black beans, cheese, onions, and lettuce. As my server was wrapping my burrito, it started to break. I was afraid for a second he would simply try to wrap it in the foil and be done with it. But he grabbed another tortilla and re-wrapped it. Got some chips and salsa on the way out. So how was the burrito you ask? Tortilla tasted like it was store bought. Chicken did not have any flavor to it. Chopped onions were too big. Salsa had a nice spicy kick to it. Chips were pretty good. I tried to convince myself the burrito was decent but halfway through I gave up and gave the rest to my dog. Meh. I've experienced better, hence the 2 stars.

Pretty close chipotle replica. Food was great, portions were large, some of the best tortilla chips ive ever had, staff was friendly.

I was very excited when Tierra finally opened in the Pike Creek Shopping Center! I live/work in the area and am always looking for new, fun places to eat. The staff could move a little more quickly, given that you order in an assembly-line fashion, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt since they're mostly high school/college age kids. My only real complaint is the meat could be warmer - each time I've been, the chicken has been lukewarm at best. Overall though, I have enjoyed my meals & you cannot beat the price for the amount of food you get. I'm partial to the bowl or salad; I ordered the burrito my first time there and it was massive - you will never leave this place feeling hungry! I think Tierra will only continue to improve with time, and I am happy to welcome them to the Pike Creek area.

I love Chipotle but it's such a pain to go to and park in Newark on Main St so I was happy to give this a shot. I have tried it twice and am a huge fan! I will use any excuse to go in the shopping center to get a burrito! I have tried the marinated steak and also the shredded steak. They were both fantastic! I will try the chicken next and the tacos. I love the jalepeno ranch dressing on the burrito too. I got the queso, ranch and sour cream! Way to take something halfway healthy and make it fattening! But it was top notch! Better than Chipotle. I can assure you I will be a regular here!

Chipotle type place. Generous portions and food was great. Highly recommend.

Very good, similar to Chipotle. Fair pricing. For beef, get the steak and avoid the shredded "barbacoa" beef - same price, but the steak is way better. You really can't lose here. New facility, nice bathrooms, fast service, quality food. Very good guacamole and chips.

Incredibly hit or miss portion sizes that depend entirely on who's making your burrito. The size of your burrito can literally be half the size of a burrito from a similar nearby burrito restaraunts such as California Tortilla or Chipotle. With a vegetable burrito you usually get a cup of rice and a mixture of 5-6 peppers and onions. You get very few chips in a to go bag, and every other chip in the bag is chewy and stale. The saving grace is the sauces, all of which are excellent though the spicy queso is ice cold when you get it.

  • Ellen S.

Very good. The food seemed fresh. The portion was VERY generous - I was stuffed! I got the chicken burrito (I'll get the steak next - it looked excellent too). It's a "Subway" or "Moe's" style ordering, where you pick your options as you move down the counter and they put it together for you. So you can change it up to try different flavor combos. I'll definitely go back. The price was reasonable. The staff was friendly. And the burrito was quite tasty.

La Tierra Is basically chipotle. Although now that chipotle is opening at the mall that's a little far from La Tierra I can expect La Tierra to go down a little bit. Also its a little more Expensive which is not that good.

  • Jaime S.

Please do not listen to the fools who claim it is flavorless and expensive. This place is another version of chipotle or qdoba. Food is exactly as you would expect and the "service" is for a qsr.... Would you complain about Taco Bell? The food is fresh and you will get exactly what you hopefully expect.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
