A hidden gem. Easily the best Asian cuisine in Hockessin

Went here last night and had their Chicken Pad Thai. It was very delicious! The staff was very friendly. If you want good, authentic Thai Cuisine, give Soybean Asian Grille a try.

Service was good, tried the lunch specials - apt for 1 and descent taste.. They have lot of vegetarian options as well and/or you could most dishes with tofu instead of chicken/meat..

Penang Curry with shrimp. Tasty. Everything we had was very good. Next time we are up, this one will be on the rotation.

This is probably one of the best Thai places in Delaware. The food is consistently good and so flavorful! When I go there I have to get the Tom Yum Gai soup because the broth is so spicy and it is just excellent. I generally pass on an appetizer as the portions are big enough that I generally have leftovers. However, if I do get an appetizer, I definitely go for the roti canai which has a nice curry flavor that isn't too spicy. This is one of the few places where I will eat General Tso's chicken. Unlike other places, the chicken isn't overwhelmed by batter and dripping in a gloopy, almost tasteless sauce. These are recognizable chunks of chicken, very lightly battered, with a light, tasty sauce. It almost reminds me of Chik fil A chicken nuggets. My main go to dish here is the Pad Kee Mao. It is essentially drunken noodles and they make it amazing every single time. They do have a lot of duck dishes. Duck has never been something that I really like that much, but I have a friend who loves it and raves about it each time he gets it.

It's one of the best Asian-Thai restaurants I have eaten at!! The yellow curry is my favorite. I loved their fried tofu as well. But the real winner is the peanut sauce that they give with the Thai salad! It is out of this world. The curries are very flavorful and have fresh vegetables. They have a lot of veggie options which makes a vegetarian like me happy! It's close by to work as well, so in other words perfect for Friday lunches. I give 5 stars for taste, friendly service and veggie options!

Phenomenal gem in pike creek we never knew about! From service to food - 5 stars! Thai food was great - pad Thai and green curry on par with the city! Definitely will be back

Everything was delicious and service was great. The food was outstanding! This was our first time here and we would return again. The hottest they offer was NOT hot enough for me and my husband but, the mildest was spicy for my mother-in-law. So, I guess it all depends on each persons taste. (Then again, my husband and I do eat habanero peppers weekly). They do offer beer, wine and some basic mixed drinks but have no top shelf liquor so if you are only going out to drink, this is not the place for you. You really should save room for dessert and try their "mochi ice cream". It is so good! This was the first time I ever had mochi ice cream and I am hooked.

This place is an amazing find!!!! We never go to the Pike Creek area, and we only came across this place when searching for some place to eat that night. It's in a strip mall and doesn't look like much, and honestly, the pictures online didn't look so good either, but since we were out of options, we based our choice on the positive reviews and decided to give it a try. First of all, the place looks MUCH BETTER than the pictures, and the food also looks much more delicate. I think people just weren't able to take great pictures because of the dim lighting. And then, the food was simply AMAZING! We ordered the appetizer sampler - each one was delicious, there wasn't one that I didn't like! I had the drunken noodles in Thai hot with squid and it was the hottest food I've eaten since I came to the US, and it was awesome! - though if you don't have a really high tolerance for hot food, I suggest you do the medium hot. Also I could tell that the chef was great because the squid was perfectly cooked, which is not something easy to do and a lot of places do a poor job. My boyfriend had one of the duck dishes (sorry don't remember which one) and it was also heaven. I'm actually kind of hesitant to post this because I don't want the place to get too crowded that I'll have to wait in line, but it's just right to share good food, so here it goes.

Hands down, the best pad thai I've had this month. Extra chicken and still under $16 what more can you ask for? Excellent cocktails and a very well-to-do owner. Come try and you won't be disappointed. The only issue I have is that they are not open seven days a week.... However, I am no fool in thinking my opinion of their hours matters.

I have enjoyed every bite from Soybean! Nice portions and nearly everything I have tried has been delicious. Its a small restaurant with seating along the sides and center floor. Dine and takeout portions are the same from what I have experienced. Being Half Thai, I always find Pad Thai comforting and a dish I can eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Every place makes their own style from dry to moist, savory to sweet. Soybean's is on the moist side which is how I like it. Not many vegetables which is how I like mine although for a Western palate more veggies may be wanted. Overall, its a nice, cozy Thai restaurant located a few storefronts to the left of the Acme in the Pike Creek Shopping Center which is directly across from Goldey Beacon College.

Our first time at Soybean will definitely not be our last. The food was delicious, especially the Pacific fried rice! Our server, Pat L, was prompt and attentive. Very pleaaed!

Enjoy their Gyoza to start. Their food is always fresh! I usually get their pacific rim rice with shrimp so very good! My husband loves their duck dishes. My daughter loves their red curry. Come for the food not for the atmosphere. Service is usually very good but not so much in our last visit.

We had a nice group of foods. They were all spicy as Thai food normally is. I really liked it. I was not crazy about the price, but the price was still OK, it was just not something that would make me want to go back for the price. Anyway, in spite of the price, I'll still give it 5 stars...

I had the tofu massaman curry. Dinner mate had chicken with broccoli. We were both pleased with our meals. The service was fine. We were there right before closing and accommodated. I'd go again, but I'd say for those who like true spicy, don't be fooled by their spice system. I got medium which was not at all spicy-more of a mild. Lots of vegetarian options which seems rare for this area.

  • A A.

Poor and very slow service. I had to wait over 30 minutes after the called-in order was supposed to be ready. The online menu is considerably lower in prices than what they actually charge. Most importantly, we were not sure why the high ratings when the food is very basic and not quite up to par. Granted that this restaurant is located in a very-few decent eating options area. But it is a far cry from being a solid choice.

Awesome food. it's a little upscale. ambience is good. friendly staff. watch out for the spice levels. 3 stars is spicy enough for taste. 4 would be a little pushing. anything else is just for a challenge.. not much for food.

Quaint little restaurant with friendly service and average selection. Nothing about the food blew me away, but I was far from disappointed. The prices are fair, but nothing to write home about one way or the other. We came in on an extremely cold night and were one of a few people in the restaurant. That being said, we weren't the center of attention and were given our space to talk and order. We split an app, entree, and had drinks. The portions were generous enough that neither of us left hungry. Nice place, worth trying, I might be back if in the area...

It is a very authentic Thai restaurant with friendly service. I have been here twice and I definitely will go to this restaurant again. Fired tofu is highly recommended and the sauce served with tofu is very yummy. You can save it and mix with other food (to reduce spicy). I tried the drunken noodles this time and chose "extremely hot". Wow, it was the most spicy drunken noodles I have after I came to America. I felt tons of boiling water running in my stomach. Believe me, I have tired dozens of Thai food in USA and always choose the highest spicy level. This drunken noodle was crazy spicy but very delicious. Absolutely, after finishing the noodles, I drunk a lot of ice tea (thanks to free-refill). If you are a foodie loving spicy food, you should come to this restaurant.

    (5)
  • R P.

One of the best drunken noodle I ever had here. Often get their drunken noodle and everything is balance in right amount. Ambience is very nice & clean, rate is very appropriate for food quality, and portion. Staff is highly informative and knowledgeable about vegan vegetarian needs! Overall, you should try them at least once before try any other restaurant in the area.

Good food but the bland decor & layout creates a atmosphere that almost feels like a McDonalds version of a Thai restaurant. Again the food is very good especially since in the pike creek area of Delaware Thai food is hard to find.

I just started working a consultant gig around the Wilmington area and some new co-workers took me there (I've now been twice). This place is absolutely fantastic. I've gotten the Pad Kee Mao twice now (once with chicken and once with beef). The second time around I made the mistake of ordering it the next step up on the spicy scale (scale of 1-3). Big mistake! And trust me, I LOVE hot stuff. I'd recommend keeping it as-is. Anyway, the dish was fantastic anyway (both times) and I only have myself to blame for ordering it a notch above the first level. Service is friendly and they were pretty prompt even with a group of 6 but I give them a 4 star rating because I think they could have been more attentive with drinks and checking in on everyone/everything. Nonetheless, I will most certainly be back.

If you're craving Thai and live in Northern Delaware, look no further -- this is probably the best you can get in the area. Let me get straight to the point: Rice dishes (Green Curry Chicken, for example) actually came with a decent amount of rice that filled me up without having to ask for more. Lack of rice has been a common issue that I've found with some of the Asian restaurants in the area, and fortunately Soybean does not suffer from this. You can pick spice levels based on "pepper" ratings on their menu. The best point of this is that even if their menu does not indicate that a dish is spicy, you can ask for them to make it spicy. Possibly the spiciest Asian food I've had in Delaware -- though that isn't saying much. DE seems to lack the punch for those who really crave extremely spicy food. If you're looking for something that will burn your tongue off, it isn't here. I like to enjoy my spicy food, and this hits the spot. Most people will still break a sweat and require some water on the side if they max out the spiciness they can provide. While I haven't had everything yet, I can't give a perfect 5-star rating based on my handful of visits for the following reasons: - The Thai iced tea w/ bubbles -- although it tasted great, the bubbles were horrible! Worst bubbles I've ever had because they just tasted like little starch balls that broke up in my mouth with the pressure of my tongue -- they're supposed to be chewy tapioca. You wouldn't come here for this kind of stuff, though. Order that without bubbles if you must. - Appetizer Roti Canai ... the roti is actually really small and not exactly share-friendly for this reason. Get your own!

I have been looking for a good Thai resteraunt in the area after moving from Central NJ where there were several exceptional ones. I finally found it. This place serves up some really good stuff. I like mine on the spicy side while my wife does not like spicy food at all. We both found dishes that were perfect for our tastes. For me the middle choice of "spicy" was perfect. They also offer a "Thai hot" level beyond that which I really couldn't imagine. In particular we liked the red curry, thai salad (awesome peanut sauce) and the Tom Kha Gai soup. We liked it so much we had dinner one evening and went back for lunch later in the week. The prices are also quite reasonable. I plan to be a regular customer. Lastly the staff is very friendly, proffesional and attentive. A great experience all around.

From the reviews here I figured I'd give it at try. I've ordered takeout several times, including the Pad Thai, Mee Siam, and Red Curry. I get everything "thai hot" and the heat isn't lacking at all. I'm a spice head and anything that causes my forehead to erupt in sweat is fine for me. The portions are more than enough for dinner, and the price is good for the amount you get. Definitely one of the better Thai places I've been to, in any area.

Not too many places in Delaware serve this cusine, so I feel fortunate that it is close by. And I do think this is one of the better places in Delaware for Asian/Thai food. There are a lot of good selections on the menu, and neither me nor anyone I have been with have been disappointed in the food. Small place with a nice ambience. It is a good place to go if you are in Delaware and looking for some Thai food.

Lately, this has been the first place that comes to mind when I want Thai food. I've been eating at this restaurant for a long time. Their lunchtime prices are reasonable and the proportions are large. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. Once you step inside, the Feng Shui interior has a calming affect and instantly makes one forget where the store is located. My favorite dish on the lunch menu is Mee Siam. I normally get it with chicken. I'm in freaking love with this dish! I can't stop ordering it. This dish features Mei Fun noodles, with celery, bell pepper, egg, onion, & scallions. The flavors meld perfectly and make this dish divine. Occasionally, I will stray away from the Mee Siam and order Kee Mao Fried rice, Pad Kee Mao, and Pad Kra Pao. I can personally say that all of these dishes are stellar. I always order a Thai Ice Tea to wash my meal down. I usually order takeout, but I do dine in from time to time. When I dine in, the meal is always started off with a salad that has a peanut sauce on it that is tasty. The wait staff is very prompt and I never felt like I was being neglected. Someone from the restaurant normally walks by my table to make sure my meal is okay. That type of service is normally reserved for the higher priced restaurants. Overall, if you live in the area, and love Thai food, this place is a necessary try!

Everything is always prepared fast. My daughter always gets the pork dumplings and I get the spring rolls, tofu mei fun or tofu pinang curry. Great restaurant. I always get the pad thai and it tastes great every time. They give you decent sized portions (especially with the pad thai) so I always end up taking some home. I've eaten in and taken out. The atmosphere and service when I eat in is great, but I tend to take out more often. It's a great place. I live in Philly now and come back to DE just to get soybean.

Love it here,. Started eating here the first week it opened but never took the time to review. We eat in sometimes and take out almost weekly. Love the pad kee meo and all the curries. Eat in we love the garlic duck and rocket shrimp. I hate green peppers and when I ask they always make my stuff without them. I skip Chinese now and go straight for Thai. This is a nice clean restaurant with great food.

Yummy! I don't really know if it's really authentic or not but I know good food. I've driven by this place before and never realized it was Thai based and mixed with other things. I read reviews on here about it and I decided to try it for lunch today. It was tasty; although I have to admit, their "spicy" really isn't. It is flavorful but I didn't taste any heat with my food so I know next time to ask them for a little more spice. I ordered Fried Calamari and I was a little disappointed to see there were no tentacles; that's the best part. The sweet chili sauce that came with it was a nice dipping sauce. For my meal I ordered Mango Fish (Basa). This is from their menu on their website: "Lightly battered fish fillet topped with shredded green mango, lemongrass, red onion, cilantro and cashew nuts. Served with Thai spicy and sour dressing." It was a larger portion than I was expecting (as you can see in the picture I posted) it came with rice and a side salad. It too was marked "spicy" but was just flavorful. The staff was really good with not bringing everything out at once. I started with the Thai side salad with peanut sauce first, then when I was finished they asked if I was ready for my calamari. Then waited to bring my entree until I was finished my appetizer. I really liked that because there are some places that bring everything at once and it's just too much at once. The staff were super nice. And the atmosphere was quite for the most part (meaning there was a table of 8 co-workers chatting but nothing too loud). The decor was calming and peaceful. I am glad I decided to check this place out because I know I will be returning in the future. (THEY HAVE TAKE OUT ALSO!)

I love Thai food and was pleasantly surprised by choosing this restaurant. I had the won ton soup (that is always a deal breaker at a thai/chinese restaurant). The broth was clear and yummy and the wontons were definitely homemade. Just a tad too many leeks but all in all a yummy soup. Next was the entree, Pad Thai with chicken. It was so good! Crumbled peanuts, the noodles were delicious and the chicken was tender!! I will definitely visit here one more time before I leave DE to try the Sushi Pizza....

I've eaten in and taken out. The atmosphere and service when I eat in is great, but I tend to take out more often. It's a great place. I live in Philly now and come back to DE just to get soybean.

Good food but the bland decor & layout creates a atmosphere that almost feels like a McDonalds version of a Thai restaurant. Again the food is very good especially since in the pike creek area of Delaware Thai food is hard to find.

Fabulous tasting food, very friendly service, relatively inexpensive - what's not to like? Appetizer must-have's are Roti Canai plus the Sushi Pizza. Both are amazing, and a great sharing choose for two. Yellow Curry (two-peppers) was very tasty and the right amount of spice. Big portions mean we can taste the excellent food the following day too, somehow it improves even more! We've come to love this place and will become 'regulars' for sure.

Never had a bad meal here. The red curry is excellent, a must try. Pad Thai is very sweet and rich, but a good meal nonetheless. The food comes out fresh and is appropriately priced with adequate portions.

Soybean is absolutely great. I've eaten in and picked up take out innumerable times at this point. Everything is hot, fresh, and the portions are huge. Dinner entrees could easily be split between two people (depending on hunger of course!), and you can't beat the prices. The Pad Thai is tasty, the stir fry dishes are delicious, and the dumpling (gyoza) appetizer might be my favorite item on the menu. Since six dumplings come in a serving, I've spent $12 on two orders and made that my dinner when getting takeout before. Super thin wrappers and a really good dipping sauce. The takeout service is also usually super quick. So quick that when they tell me 10-15 minutes, I say make it 20, as I live a bit farther away. Definitely recommend this place!

Stopped by for some take out dinner. Nice little shop that is located in a strip mall, like most places in Delaware you can't judge the restaurant by its surroundings. The menu is an eclectic mix of different asian dishes but focuses on thai based food. I got the koon tod, rocket shrimp, which was made very well. The wrappers were cooked to a crispy finish without overcooking the shrimp itself. The dipping sauce while mild and thick was well made and blended well with the shrimp itself. The roti canai (malaysian) was well made. The roti itself was chewy and had a good bite to it. The curry dipping suace had a rich creamy flavor with some depth to it. There was some coconut milk mixed in which made a thick velvety dipping sauce. A bit richer then I am used to with roti canai but delicious. More roti for dipping would have been nice. The Ped Sam Rod (duck with 3 flavor sauce) was my entree and was delicious. The duck was moist and rich without chunks of unrendered fat. There was a nice mix of white and dark meat with a deep succulent taste. The sauce was a bit complex with some mild heat (I got standard spicy but not Thai spicy). The sweetness came through in the sauce mixing with the chiles. The jasmine rice was fairly standard with some variation in the texture of the rice. That is to say that some of the areas were a bit soft and overcooked. But there were no undercooked or hard pieces of rice mixed in which is much worse. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Overall I was very happy with the selection and enjoyed the food. The dishes were well made and flavorful. I would continue to eat at this restaurant. Side note: the "spicy" is Delaware spice and not normal asian spicy.

Soybean... what a gem. I've been eating here since the restaurant first opened, and I've been back many, many times. I'm not a big reviewer but I felt like this restaurant deserved some due credit. Every time I visit family I have at LEAST one meal at Soybean. When you step inside the first thing you'll notice is an elegant bamboo forest feel. Almost like walking through the wardrobe into narnia. It's somewhat magical but not overdone. This is fancy enough for a date night and chill enough for a casual night out with the friends. There is a compact bar in the front with an attractive flat screen TV if you're just in the mood for something laid back. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are substantial. The main cuisine is Thai with some japanese dishes. I've tried the pad thai, pad see yew, pad kee mao, sushi pizza, tom yum soup... and can say that all the standard dishes(I only try standard dishes at thai/viet restaurants) were pleaasantly flavorful. The lunch special is a pretty good deal and I like the amount of choices you have. Tofu, beef, shrimp, chicken, gluten free... you can customize your order however you want. Service is fast and friendly. What's really admirable is that the owner, dressed in plain clothes, often comes out and helps with the tables. How often do you see that at a restaurant? I've been across the country when it comes to restaurants, so I've tried everything from jersey Hoagie Havens to nawlens jambalaya to the Midnight Express in ATL to The House in San Francisco . If I had to pick a must try in Delaware, Soybean Asian Grill is IT!

I was starving for Thai and Soybean Asian Grille was the nearest place at the moment. I don't like it really when places are inconsistent saying "Asian" cuisine, and mixing everything together, Japanese, Thai, etc...but I guess it's something you might have to do when you open a restaurant in the U.S especially Delaware. I got a Thai Iced-Tea, Curry Puffs and Thai fried rice with tofu. Everything was quite ok, the Thai Iced-tea was a little too sweet compared to what I am used to get in Thai places in New York. Curry puffs are a little bit to "chinessy"..(Too fried/greasy for my taste) and the Thai fried-rice is ok. I ordered for pick-up. So, it's not always easy to judge food in a plater I find. But it's quite personal. It should not give or take away from the food. The atmosphere of the place was very nice, and staff was really sweet, that's why I give it 4 stars. I'll probably come back, because it's the closest place around for me. It's hard to judge from all the great places I am used to try in New York City.

Looking for a Thai place near my mom's new house. The building itself is beautiful and as a vegetarian the options are quite nice. I had my standby of Pad Thai and it was awesome. It may not be authentic, but it doesn't matter. I love the food here! My favorite dish is the Thai Basil Shrimp. It is very spicy. I always ask for it MILD, but it is still always spicy. I don't think they know what mild is. The Pad Thai is too sweet for me, but I have friends who love it. The ingredients always seem fresh, which keeps me coming back! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It doesn't feel like you're in a strip mall. It can get very pricey to bring the whole family.

I am Thai and I say this is not authentic Thai food. I went there with a group of 6 Thai people. The waitress and staff are Chinese. No one can speaks Thai with us.... and that is not important since all the staff are friendly. We ordered many basic Thai entrees such as Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Beef Basil, Tom Yum, etc. They are not authentics. The only dish we like is Pad Kee Mao. We agreed that this place is an Americanized Thai food ... no one got excited. No one returns to this place again.

Went for my birthday for the first time based on the Yelp reviews and I must say I was not let down! The service was absolutely wonderful, very friendly yet unintrusive. The atmosphere was great too, completely forgot that it was in a strip mall. We ordered quite a few things off the menu as well as two specials and everything was great. As a Thai lover, I have high standards and, while this wasn't the best I have ever had, I wasn't disappointed. The coconut shrimp appetizer special was actually the best shrimp I may have ever had while the soup was average. The entrees I tasted, the red curry and a seafood special, were both well done and flavorful. When I am back in Delaware and craving Thai, I will definitely try my luck here again!

My first time at Soybean. Overall good. Mostly Thai but generally too sweet. They have a nice menu with mostly classic Thai and a few Japanese choices. We ordered beef sate and the sampler which included edamame, spring rolls, gyoza, shumai, and some sort of curry empanada type of thing. The flavorful beef was grilled nicely but the peanut sauce was overly sweet. The edamame were salted to perfection. The curry turnover had a filing similar to Indian samosas. The shumai was dipped in batter and deep fried for full effect. The sampler came with a trio of sauces. The sweet chili sauce was more sweet than chili. The soy was laced with fresh ginger. We got a Thai salad next. Again too sweet and I was disappointed that they used a green leaf lettuce instead if napa. I really wish the balance was better. I needed some sour and more heat. It's that combination of all the tastes that I love in Thai and other Southeast Asian cuisine but is missing here. For our entrees, I tried the classic shrimp Pad Thai and Steve got Singapore Mai Fun. Not to bore you but the Pad Thai was too sweet. It needed tamarind. It also lacked the taste of the pan on the noodles. When you eat great Pad Thai you know it's pan fried. There's a point in frying when the noodles and broken bits of the other ingredients caramelize and approach the point of burning but are saved by the master chef. This version missed that. I really enjoyed the Mai fun. It had a deep madras curry flavor and was not too sweet! I will try Soybean again. The decor is nice and we got pleasant service. The menu has some nice things I'd like to try. I think the choices I made this time leaned to the sweet side anyway so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

This is a brand new wonderful place to find Thai food in the Pike Creek area. I have only taken out food from here but I can still recognize that the interior is well designed and clean. I have had almost every curry they offer as well as many other dishes off the menu and have not found one yet where the flavors were not balanced. Everything is made with fresh vegetables. Very healthy place to eat. Food is clean and portion sizes are great. I am full after lunch and always have leftover after eating dinner. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is quick and friendly service. Look for coupons in Clipper Magazine :)

The only thing that stopped me from giving this place 5 stars is that I've only been once for takeout. And I can't wait to go back, especially now that I've been able to try a few other Thai/Asian fusion places in the area for comparison. I got the tofu pad Thai extra spicy and the hot and sour soup with shrimp. Both dishes were extremely well-flavored and tasted like the ingredients were fresh. I will definitely be going back here next time I'm craving Thai food.

I used to go here every Wednesday to get Pad Thai and it was absolutely delicious. Then I branched out and discovered the Tom Kah Gai Soup with Mushrooms and Chicken in Coconut Broth, which is to DIE for. However, because I'm a student, the budget's a little tight, but I still can't pass up stopping by to grab a bowl of soup and a delicious thai tea (or even bubble tea thai tea). It's been a favorite of mine since they opened. If you're in the area, it's a must if you're into thai food (and who isn't!?)

Best Thai restaurant I've ever been to. The food is absolutely delicious, the portions are very large and I LOVE the mango and rice dessert. It is the perfect end to a lovely meal. The atmosphere in the restaurant certainly enhances the experience, as does the wait staff. I take advantage of any opportunity to visit the Soybean and anyone I bring becomes an instant fan.

Wanted to reward Kendog w/a yummy dinner bc he's been working so hard... Soybean's staff & food never lets us down. We started with the thai spring rolls which were very good. The sweet&sour sauce was so good I wanted to drink it... but don't worry I didn't. Then I had my signature dish: vegetarian glass noodles. The noodles and the sauce are my favorite, light but full of flavor. Kenny had the same dish but w/ chicken. He dominated that dish & seemed pretty happy after :) Love this place. We just got take out but the gentlenan who greeted me was very welcoming & friendly. He gave me a complimentary cup of tea while I waited for our food.Who'd have thought that pike creek shopping center would house such a winner?

I've been eating here more often lately, after a long hiatus, and am impressed all over again. Very calming atmosphere (at lunch, anyway - dinner can be more crowded but it's still not crazy), and attentive, friendly service. Spectacularly, pretty much everything here is made with wheat-free soy sauce so there's a TON of GF choices (curries, rice noodles, etc - obviously, double-check it for yourself, don't take my word for it) and the menu is huge. My go-to, pad ki mao, was delicious, spicy, well-cooked, and plentiful - I'd say it's the best pad ki mao in Delaware. (Even the ladies' loo is nice, with nice lighting and thoughtful touches like rose-scented hand lotion.) I really love this place and could not be more thrilled about the wheat-free soy sauce situation!

Definitely the best Thai restaurant in the area. The decor inside is low-key and welcoming. The layout of the tables is not overly crowded and therefore very comfortable. The menu contains your typical Thai noodle dishes, curries, and duck, but each of what we ordered was done wonderfully and presented elegantly. The green curry was probably my favorite. Not over-spiced like some other places, the curry poured over some rice makes for a perfect combination. We also ordered a couple of the noodle dishes, both were very well-prepared with fresh vegetables and other ingredients. You can choose from a few different levels of spiciness, and they bring you a set of three chilies to go with your meal, so that you can add more spice to your food should you choose to. The only complaint I have of the food is that the Tom Yum chicken soup was slightly too salty. The wait staff is very friendly, and the service is fast and efficient. If you are a fan of Thai food, or is simply looking for some good Asian food, definitely give Soybean a try.

  • Yingbo W.

The Thai food here is merely okay. It's not the best I've ever had and recently I've stopped going here because for some reason the Pad Thai tastes different every time and is always too sweet. The meat (beef, shrimp, chicken) is too rough and bland. The only thing I really love is the tofu they put in their dishes. Definitely add tofu to your entrees. I also found it ridiculous that you have to pay $3 for a tiny pot of tea that only serves one. Most other Asian restaurants serve tea for free. Oh and this place is owned by Chinese people so it's not authentic Thai.

Who knew you can get authentic Thai food in Wilmington (obscurely tucked between an Acme and Kmart in a shopping center on Route 7)?I'm kind of a Thai food snob (traveled and took cooking lessons in Thailand and cook a lot of Thai food at home), and this place was great. I had the tom yum gai, curry puffs, som tam (papaya salad), and pad kee mao. They were all delicious! My only regret was not having enough room for dessert - I love mango with sticky rice and fried ice cream - and I have a feeling those would have been great here.

This is a great little gem if you are in the Pike Creek area and don't want to venture far for a little ambience and some pretty good food. A while back my girlfriend and I were looking to go out for a bite to eat but we had trouble finding a place that we trusted taking a chance at. Our go-to is Ali Baba in Newark but even great places get old after a while. We came across this place online and when we realized it was really close to us and got a couple solid reviews we decided to take a chance. We were both very pleased and we have been back now twice since our first visit. The few noodle dishes I've tried we're really good and the food came out pretty fast. The Panang curry was very tasty and probably my favorite to date. One of the best things is the mango, sticky rice desert. I am not a desert guy but my girlfriend insisted I try this and I am glad I did. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. The staff are really friendly and it's just a cool little place.

Soybean has a very hip interior, amazing wait staff, and some great food. Since moving here from San Diego I haven't dared try much Asian food, most places around here seem very sketchy. Soybean's hip clean atmosphere reminded me of a few of my old haunts in San Diego. The food was excellent and a great break from the all too greasy Asian cuisine you usually run into. The staff seemed to be made up of older people who were very kind and seemed the genuinely enjoy their job. Our tea was on the table as soon as we sat down and the soda refills were prompt. I highly recommend this spot!!

The best Thai restaurant in Delaware! Having moved to the area from San Diego, CA (where we lived in the part of town where there was a good Thai restaurant on almost every block), it was very refreshing to see such a good Thai restaurant so close to our new home. Soybean is certainly Americanized, as some other reviewers have pointed out, but it definitely is definitely not out-of-place... the flavors and spice they offer cannot be mistaken for hamburgers and apple pie. The level of Americanization you'll see is in the toning-down of the heat; my wife and I usually order medium to hot, and sometimes we are forced to ask for a tray of chilies to bring it back up to the level of spice you expect of Thai food. The decor is trendy and clean, and the ambiance is very pleasant. My wife and I eat at Soybean at least once a month. Our favorite items are: the Tom Yom Soup, Roti Canai, Panang Curry, Red Curry, Green Curry, Masaman Curry, and their Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles). We have gone here with family, friends, co-workers, and out-of-towers, who have all expressed to us their disappointment that Soybean isn't around the corner from their homes.

Wow! I'm a huge, huge fan of good Thai food and Soybean was just fantastic. The wait staff was courteous and attentive, our food arrived very quickly, and was absolutely delicious. I've got a new favorite dinner place in N. Delaware!

Great Thai food, and good service. I had the massaman curry, (spicy) and it was just the right amount of spice. Nice atmosphere for being located in a strip mall

Absoulately amazing food and service! We've tried several things and loved just about everything. Yum Woon Sen is fabulous. Roti Chanai is finger licking good! Pad Thai, Kee Mao, Thai Fried Rice were excellent. The curry was good but a little weak and included too many vegetables. Fried bananas were different from what I'm used to (wrapped in spring roll wrapers rather than plantains fried in batter). Service is excellent. Pat is very friendly and helpful. The manager is also very nice and always chats with us. We've only been going here for a few weeks but I feel like I already know the staff well. I wish they weren't closed on Sundays - I crave the Pad Thai quite often!

The food was very tasty and not typical asian fare. The salmon was delicious and the peanut dressing on the salad was very good. The prices were reasonable (for Pike Creek area) and there was a good selection of food for those of us who don't eat meat.
