Toscana is by far the best restaurant in Trolley Square! Their happy hour, which is from 5-7 includes dishes such as the RGF's( sweet potato and regular fries), calamari, an even better small pizza to share, and so much more. I absolutely love coming here as it is so different than the strip of Trolley Square bars on Delaware Avenue.

I'm not usually passionate about pasta, but the butternut squash ravioli I had here recently was so perfect, my mouth is still watering just thinking about it. As it came out, the aromas of ricotta, butternut, and herbs blew me away, and eating each ravioli was pure heaven. According to our waitress, the pasta (or at least the ravioli) is handmade and it certainly tastes that way. I will say it took a while before we received our entrees, however, it was well worth the wait. The prices vary quite a bit as you can get some reasonably priced pasta dishes, but may pay a bit more for a hearty meat dish. I would say it's all worth it, though. Expect a nice understated interior in an open setting. Loved the rustic brick oven and the casual elegance of the place. Our server was attentive and helpful, but not overly so. I hope to be a regular at this joint.

I'm in Wilmington extensively for business and this is the third "re-do" of Toscana, now Piccolina Toscana, I've experienced. It's like watching the sequel of a good movie that subsequently gets worse with each release. It now has a cafeteria feel and the noise level has increased with this re-do. The entre menu is pretty bland tasting - lots of cute sauces to disguise the lack of substance. And gosh, get rid of those awful undercooked breadsticks. I think they've been around since the Clinton Administration. Wilmington is starving for a great Italian restaurant. And this isn't it!

I've only been to the bar, not the restaurant, so take this with a grain of salt. Toscana is a nice yuppie-ish place to sit & drink wine with friends, do some people watching - in both the good and the train-wrecky way because this is still Delaware. One time our server forgot to bring my order (it's okay, I don't need the calories); another time I tried a friend's antipasto plate and it was flipping delicious, especially the house-made (?) mozzarella. Holy moly. The music ranges from pop/electronic to cheese, but at one point they played a Siouxsie & the Banshees song, which I'm convinced someone did just to mess with my mind. (It worked.)

I'm not a fan of the new Toscana. The pizza is the best thing on the menu so eat at the bar and save some money! The risotto was dry, meat bland, and small plates - super small. Eat and the bar and enjoy some beers.

Piccolina Toscana is located in a small strip mall in the Trolley Square area. It is not easy to find. In reality, you would be better off not dining there, especially if you are hungry. My dining companion had suggested trying the restaurant. He had heard some good things about it. But this is Delaware and good food does not make it's home here. Had I stopped to read the reviews first, this dining experience would never have happened. Piccolina has an open dining room with little to no ambiance to speak of: think cafeteria with linen on the tables and 3 pieces of decorative canvases on the rear wall. The lack of ambiance was accentuated by the almost empty shelves where they open air store the glasses. The restaurant was only populated by one other table when we arrived for lunch. It rarely is a good portent that a restaurant is empty during the lunch hour. We were told that we could not have a table in the back because a large party was coming in shortly. They never arrived in the hour plus that we were there. I had a problem with the rim or my glass of tonic water being dirty, as verified by my server. I am thankful that I was using a straw and did not have much of it. (It was on the bill, despite my server offering a replacement.) There was also another badly cleaned piece of glassware on the table, also verified by our server. Despite this, nothing was done to replace even the dirty water glass(s) on the table. It's difficult to review the service in a practically empty restaurant. Suffice it to say that we had good service: our server had only our table, but was handling 2 more two top tables by the time we were midway through our meal, which is nothing that a good server cannot handle easily. There were 3 servers on the floor in total and none were handling more tables than our server. Warm breadsticks and olive oil are brought to the table. All 2 of them. While this is always a nice touch, it could be vastly improved by flavouring the olive oil. If it were an exceptional EVO that they were showcasing, this comment wouldn't be here. It's not. I ordered the lunch Risotto with Mushrooms and Braised Veal and a Cesare side salad. My friend ordered the Capellini al Pomodoro. Prior to ordering the risotto I had asked my server whether they pre-batched it: I was concerned about it being mushy. I was told that it was made when ordered. Considering that they use Carnaroli rice, (which is a step above the usual Arborio) and local Kennett Square Mushrooms I expected a good dish to be served. I was very disappointed with the meal I was served. The plating on all of the dishes was nothing special, and the portion size was small even considering that these were lunch portions. The Cesare salad was fresh and bright, with lovely large gratings of Parmesan. What I did miss was the Cesare dressing. Whatever bottle it came from wasn't the correct one. The risotto was over cooked. Not mushy, but not to the tooth, as it should have been. The use of the Canaroli rice can give the dish a more velvety feel than you would have with the more usual Arborio rice. It was well seasoned, but there was definitely some un-mentioned and un-necessary cheese in it. The veal was tender and beautifully cooked, but would have benefited from some seasoning to enhance it. I question why chopped parsley was used as a garnish? It is not only an outdated garnish, but it adds nothing to the eye appeal or to the taste of the dish. My friend had informed our server that I was a chef when we were ordering. I told my server to let the chef know that the risotto was over cooked. Apparently the chef does not even have the decency to come out of the kitchen to discuss or apologise for a poorly cooked meal with a customer, much less a fellow chef. The Capellini al Pomodoro was bland tasting. Factory produced pasta with a sauce that lacked any verve to it. It also had the ubiquitous chopped parsley. While I don't have a problem with a Risotto costing $18, (given that it is labor intensive) I do have a problem with a minuscule lunch portion at that price. I do recognise that this restaurant is in the wealthier portion of Wilmington: but, this is neither Philadelphia, nor is it NYC. Piccolina Toscana would, in my opinion, benefit from a prix fixe lunch and dinner menu. It would also benefit from having a chef who cared about what he was serving to customers. Piccolina got 1star from me for the quality of some of the ingredients only. Not for the disservice that their chef gave those ingredients.

I had not been to Toscana, renamed "Piccolina", in almost 4 years but I heard they had remodeled and updated the menu. I decided to try it out and was happy that I was able to secure a reservation over Valentine's weekend. Although the decor has been updated, it still has the same laid-back trendy vibe that I remember liking years ago. It was crowded but never felt overwhelming. Our table was ready when we arrived, which deserves at least a star and a half! Steve, our waiter, greeted us and could not have been more attentive. They had a fantastic four course menu special and also offered many of the "specials" ala carte as well. When I told him that I am a vegan, he immediately offered to ask the chef to make anything that I would like before I even had to ask if that would be possible. Score! My husband and the others chose to eat from the special menu and they literally salivated over every course. Each dish was the perfect portion size in order to allow you to enjoy the next course. Steve recommended wine to complement our dishes and was spot on! The atmosphere, service, and food were all perfect! I can't wait to return!

Toscana is a Wilmington institution. Even with the new change to "Piccolina" Toscana I was still expecting the same food, service, and atmosphere as the old (but not outdated) standby. We went on a Sunday night and had a table for 4 at 6:30. The new design of the restaurant is, well, boring. A big open room, a brick oven area, and that's about it. Minimal decor, minimal atmosphere. We were seated and given a special menu, along with an extensive wine list. On the special menu I saw that a buffet was advertised. Um, buffet? At Toscana? Ew. But the rest of the "special" menu wasn't appealing- I was very disappointed that I couldn't get my Toscana favorites on a Sunday night. So, we settled on the buffet, but then the waiter decides to imply to our table that Sunday night is leftover night, where they usually try and get rid of what didn't sell during the week. Yum. A bottle of prosecco was ordered (very good) and we sat and talked and exchanged Christmas gifts. At this point, it's been about 30 minutes since we ordered. Our waiter comes over and tells us we should go eat at the buffet before the food runs out. Swell. It's 7:15. So we get up and eat and the food is ok- oily pasta burning away in chafing dishes, mozz and toppings, Spinach salad, and some other stuff that wasn't memorable. There were some desserts and a cheese and cured meat tray which was also pretty boring. Then, it's time for coffee. In the middle of pouring a cup, the carafe empties out. The waiter asked us if we wanted more coffee. Um, the cup you're pouring isn't full. Don't ask. Say "I'll be right back with more" and go and brew a new pot. Duh. So we say "please" and he comes back with a new pot and then tells us there is no sugar. No sugar? This is a restaurant. That has been around for a long time. That has sugar. Trust me. What he MEANT to say was that they were out of the little sugar packets. So- put some sugar in a little ramekin and bring it out. This meal sucked from start to finish.

Toscana used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Wilmington for impressing clients as well as dates, or having a classy but cozy get-together with the girls. Unfortunately, they have remodeled it essentially into a cafeteria with an open kitchen. Although the colors are an attractive and trendy gray with neon yellow, it totally lacks charm. It is now noisy, cold, and my clothing smelled like the kitchen after I left. Even the women's bathroom (I envied the old color scheme and tile and wanted it at home) now is colored institutional peach and looks like something at DMV. My food, while tasty as always (I had a beef filled ravioli in a wine and mushroom reduction), was luke-warm. My coffee, while flavorful and rich, was served in a large open cup, which in the cold dining room quickly became as lukewarm as my pasta. Although I'd still come here for good (but not hot) food, I will no longer pick Toscana as a special place for celebrations or intimate meals. Sorry Toscana, but the rennovavations were definitely not worth the money.... I really miss the old layout --maybe they can add some partitions and sound-proofing. For now, it's Toscana to go for me :(

Brunch was fantastic! The cost was $20 per person. This price included choice of one menu entree and full access to the buffet. The buffet consisted of a soup, 2 salad choices, a few different types of pasta, quinoa, fruit cheeses and meats, and mini desserts. I only wish the buffet food was labeled.

Love the lounge for happy hour! And every other hour!! Such a great atmosphere, service and drinks are great! Amazing craft beer selection. More than any other bar in trolley square! Especially love the slip covers on the couches, so comfortable! Bartenders are awesome! Love the restaurant for a great dinner out. Great for bigger parties and smaller special evenings. The menu focuses on mostly organic and farm fresh ingredients, which is favorable. Menu changes but not too often. Great specials offered nightly.

I hosted a small graduation reception for about 40 people in the Toscana bar and it was absolutely perfect! Dan and his team were so easy to work with and the presentation was flawless! We even managed to make it a kid-friendly event in a bar - not an easy task and it was fantastic! Top it off with the insanely reasonable price and it was perfection! Thanks to Dan and his team!!

Love this place! Whenever I travel back to Delaware, Toscana is usually a spot I stop by to catch up with old friends. I haven't ever had dinner here (I'm sure it's good though), but have had dessert and drinks there a few times. They have a fun, cozy little bar/lounge area on the side where you can hang with friends.

I never write reviews but feel the necessity to let everyone know this place is terrible. I always give a restaurant many changes before I make an opinion, its only fair. The service is TERRIBLE , the food is mediocre at best and the "executive chef" acts like he is more important than the customers. If you feel like your money is valuable to you and going out should be a treat....go somewhere else.

The food was terrible. The service was excellent and the ambiance is very nice. The wine, beer and bar lists are stunning in quality and breadth. Well, really just one dish was terrible and the others were Okay. We started with the fried mozerella which was beautifully cook and presented, but seriously lacking in seasoning. I then had the carpaccio which was absolutely lovely (although this is not a difficult dish to "cook", it was perfectly presented. For our "mains" we both ordered small because we have small appetites. I got a half portion of the butternut squash pasta, which was the day's special. The filling was nice, the pasta was definately homemade. But it was presented swimming in olive oil and had a sort of grittiness to it that felt like sand in your teeth. Burnt cinnamon maybe? My date ordered the mushroom risotto and his dish was pretty much unedible. It was possibly the most bland thing I have every tasted and the risotto was woefully undercooked, crunchy. While you could see it had lots of mushrooms in it, there was absolutely no mushroom flavor. Not sure if that is quality of ingredients or preparation. He asked for salt (so confident are they in their dishes that it is not on the table), but no amount seemed to help. Warning to those who favor quanitity over quality - the potions sizes are QUITE small here. Half portion really is an appetizer size. And the appetizers really are appetizers. Personally I find this highly refreshing as so many italian restaurants seem to be into serving food for five as a single entree and I hate wasting food.

I have eaten lunch here numerous times. The food ranges from good to very good (4.5 stars). Despite the Italian name, this restaurant serves a variety of items, both Italian and otherwise. The restaurant itself is very atmospheric and would be a good place for a romantic meal or a business lunch. Service is generally very good, but occasionally falters (4 stars). Prices are somewhat high, but not out of line for a place this nice.

The food was unbelievably good, the presentation first rate,with amazingly fresh herbs, spices and veggitables and the staff very friendly and knowledgable. The portions are smaller and some people may not be used to ordering an entree and sides as opposed to a meal. A salad, entree and side was very filling and the chocolate tort was incredible. We arrived just after 10:00 and the bar area was lively but not loud enough to prevent polite conversation, price point is a little high but this is a must visit establishment at any price.

This was our second visit. The food we got during our first visit which was 2 months ago was excellent. This time we were disappointed. This was the second time we got the pizza. The first time the pizza crust was thin and crispy and tasted like a pizza one might have in Italy. This time it was doughy, tasteless, flaccid crust and could have come from the nondescript pizza place on the corner. I also had the grilled octopus for the 2nd time which was chopped up to minuscule pieces and the white beans coulda been grubs from someone's lawn. And the grubs were tasteless. The scallops were overpowered by the garlic on top. The butternut squash ravioli was swimming in oil and so overly rich that two bites and I was done. What the hell happened?

The waiter at lunch was exceptional and one of the best I've seen. He was knowledgeable and made several recommendations for lunch options. He also discussed the homemade pastas and pizzas. I choose the fig pizza and salad. The pizza was nice but had way too much Gorganzola cheese for such a small pizza for me. I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu.

I recently went here on lunch break with a group of eight. The food and atmosphere were awesome but I'm docking stars due to service. It took us about an hour and a half for lunch, which was pretty long considering we made reservations and the restaurant wasn't crowded. I will return but definitely not when I'm pushing for time.

I cannot believe what they served us! We ordered mozzarella fritta, polpo (octopus), the margherita pizza and house greens. Of them all, the house greens were the best, and all it contained was arugula, tomatoes and dressing! I said something to both the manager and the waiter about the pizza and polpo not being good and all they did was shrug their shoulders and walk away! I am shocked!

We wanted to change up our brunch game so we tried this place. $20 for brunch is a good deal I think. You get their buffet plus one item from the kitchen. The buffet isn't a huge selection but the food is quality. Had a variety or salads, pasta salads, tomato soup, cheese/meat platter & fruit. But the best part is the mini desserts! Make sure you try them all!!

I have been to the new Piccolina twice in the last two weeks. Steve was the waiter and he was great. My friend got the small ceasar and they made a small calamari appetizer for her and it wasn't on the menu. Both visits I had the salmon on greens. One lunch I had it by itself and ate all of it. Delicious! The second time I had the butternut squash soup with two small squash raviolis. I could only eat half of the salmon dish. I love the relaxed atmosphere. The fries are fabulous and bread sticks. Yummy! I can't wait to go back!

The last time I ate at Toscana was 2 years ago when I thought it was good but overpriced. I knew it had been redone recently with smaller plates and smaller prices so when my mom called to to meet for lunch in Wilmington I thought we would try it. I am so happy I gave it another chance! The place has been rebranded Piccolina Toscana and it's light and airy and comfortable inside were you can see the pizzettes and pasta being prepared in the open. My mom, who rarely drinks, got the white peach cosmo and said it was delicious. She she said it was strong without being overpowering and she even said the maraschino cherry in the bottom was better than most. I got the twin lakes pale ale off of their pretty extensive beer menu which was also good. Now to the food. As soon as you walk in the place smells of the most delicious garlic. Upon sitting some olive oil and rolls fresh out of the oven with parmesan and garlic were put on the table. We ordered 2 small plates and a pizza to share. The first small plate we got was the Mezzaluna di Zucca, fresh pasta stuffed with butternut squash and ricotta in a brown butter sauce. It was absolutely amazing! My mom took one bite and said "I can die now". The other small plate we got was fettuccine de mare, hand rolled fettuccine with shrimp and scallops in a lemon garlic sauce. The scallops were delicious and the pasta was perfectly cooked. One thing I will say about the small plates is that in the two we got they differed greatly in appearance of size. The fettuccine was ample with a small portion that would have been perfect for lunch, but the ravioli looked tiny compared with just 3 little raviolis served. If I were going back and only getting the ravioli I would get the large portion. The final thing we got was the di Parma pizette, a personal size pizza with goat cheese, prosciutto and arugla. While it was a tad salty because of the goat cheese and prosciutto it was very good. It would have been perfect with something sweet added, like caramelized onions or figs. After those three plates and the alcohol our total was $43, a great price for the quality of food you are getting. I highly recommend for lunch and can't wait to go back and try it for dinner.

Two words: carciofini dorati. Get it. It was simply one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. My husband and I kept saying "Oh my God" after taking a bite. The flavor was incredible. We had some other small plates, and they were pleasant, but not mind-blowing, and honestly I can't even remember what they were as this was 3-4 months ago. But I still think of that carciofini dorati appetizer. I could be spelling it wrong - sorry. I am detracting a star because of a bad experience we had with a catering saleswoman of theirs 3 years ago. In fact I wouldn't eat there for a long time because of it. But I have to assume this young woman is gone by now, and I'm not going to ding this place on past incarnations (well, more than one star removed, anyway). I hope to go back again sometime this year and see if any other dishes are as mindblowing as the one mentioned above.

Toscana...now Piccolina Toscana...rebranded and well improved. Or, I'm assuming. Before the change happened, we only went for happy hour which isn't necessarily the best gauge of how good all the food is. We went to a cooking demo at Celebrity Kitchens taught by Robbie Jester, the new Exec at Piccolina. We knew then that his food was really good, so it was only a matter of time before we went to Piccolina. We saw an amazing deal for Delaware Dines Out. Not 3, but 4 courses for $30. A lot of restaurants use this opportunity to get customers in the door without really attempting to represent what they're truly capable of. This was not the case at Piccolina. Every course was well executed, flavorful, and had us closing our eyes and making yummy noises for 2 full hours. If you are planning to go this week...here's the break down of what we had. The mushroom ragout with polenta - the mushrooms were so rich and flavorful and the dish had this wonderful hint of chili oil which cut some of the richness for the perfect balance. We had the crab and mushroom fritters as well...you could actually individually taste the crab and mushroom. Then we had the butternut squash mezzalunas and the short rib ravioli. The butternut squash ravioli could have done with a bit less brown butter sauce but other than that, all the flavors together were balanced and complimentary. The short rib ravioli was foodgasmic. Pardon any inappropriateness you may find in that term, but there is no better way to put it. If you try it, you will understand. We also had the scallops with butternut squash risotto and the bistecca with pancetta roasted brussel sprouts. The risotto and the scallops were fantastic. Both perfectly cooked with the slightest hint of sweetness and robust flavor for something so mild. The steak was perfectly cooked...and in all honesty, I haven't liked brussel sprouts since I was a kid. These brussel sprouts were so delicious, I could have had a dish of them for dinner and been happy. We finished off the chocolate munchkins with hazelnut sauce and vanilla gelato. All made from scratch from their pastry chef. When Robbie said they had the best pastry chef in the state, I was a little skeptical. But now I know he was right. The only thing I regret was not getting a spoon so make sure none of it went to waste. And beyond the food being really really good, the service was fantastic as well. Our waiter, Alex, was polite, informative, attentive, and friendly. And it was really busy. So that level of service on a night like that, was an unexpected bonus. If you haven't gone and you're debating it, please stop and just go. It won't disappoint.

great place to go for drinks vs the usual places i have been while visiting family and friends in DE. there is a restaurant next door that i havent been to personally, but i have heard great things. i liked the atmosphere of the bar - good wine list, and the night i was there they had $5 bellinis! yes please!! honestly it wasnt the best bellini, but hey $5 is $5. they have drink specials every night, which is always a plus. there was a decent amount of seating, especially since we got there early, although it did really fill up later in the night. i would definitely go back, and would love to try the restaurant sometime.

I haven't been to Toscana since they changed their approach, but I had heard good things. I think the decor is better and the menu is certainly much more extensive. I love the idea of being able to sample half portions of almost everything, allowing for customizable meal of one's choosing. We were there on Tuesday night and the service was very slow. Our server was fabulous and very nice and continued apologizing for how slow everything was, so at least it was acknowledged. They were out of a lot of menu items as well, which was pretty disappointing. That said, I was sitting with my Mom and my sister and I wasn't ravenously hungry, so I did not mind it taking a long time. I started with grilled octopus, which was good. Nothing out of the ordinary. For dinner, I had the kitchen salad, which never disappoints. My Mom started with the veal meatballs, which were amazing and had the butternut squash ravioli for her meal. They tasted more like dessert than an entree, but were delicious. My sister had the polenta for her appetizer and capellini with seafood for her entree. She was pleased. For dessert, the two things we wanted were not available. The third could not be made without nuts (my sister has a nut allergy), bu our server returned and said they had one remaining of one of the unavailable desserts, the pear tart. It wasn't that great, but the ice cream it came with was awesome. I would try it again on another night because the food was solid.

I went here a couple of months ago for a friends birthday however I've been here a few times before and remember it being good. Service was great, the server was accurate, accommodating and relaxed. I also appreciated his witty demeanor... perhaps a moonlighting stand-up? They have a pretty good beer selection of which I chose the Cannon IPA. For my meal I had the Shrimp & Scallops over Lobster Risotto, per the waiters suggestion. What an unbelievable dish! Great taste with several different flavors which all seemed to work well together. The only slight downside was the portion size was a bit on the small side for the price. The number of selections on the menu were a not as plentiful as most other places however from what I recall in previous visits, they seem to rotate the entire menu frequently. If that is the case then I feel the limited selections are a plus as it not only allows someone as indecisive as myself make a choice within the hour but encourages you to maybe try something you might not ordinarily and also perhaps intrigue you to come back again to check out the new selections :-)

We have been fans of Piccolina Toscana's Sunday brunch--very good food for a reasonable price. But this past Sunday was disappointing. The service was quite slow and off-putting and the range of dishes seemed to have dwindled from what it was in the past. We are hoping that this was a minor glitch so we can continue to enjoy their tasty offerings

While the food tasted OK, the portion size was obscenely small. I ordered the small portion of salmon and got a fingerling that was 3 forkfuls. Get real. That meal cost $13. At the end of the meal we order cappuccino and it came out lukewarm. Try somewhere else.

Love the atmosphere. Love the concept of the menu with the choices of small or full plates, which gives you a chance to order more of a variety. I wanted to love this place so bad. But everything we ordered was very bland. Especially the pasta dishes. It was obvious that the ingredients were fresh, just lacking in seasoning. Do the chefs even taste their dishes? We had great service. The waitress was very friendly and very helpful with the wine selection.

This has become one of my favorite venues for happy hour! For $20, you can easily get 2 delicious glasses of wine, an appetizer, and a personal size pizza. And then why not spend another $5 on a tasty cocktail! Just get it all done before 7 and do it on a weekday. Even though the bar area is often crowded, the servers are very attentive and remember our preferences from week to week.

We hosted a perfect luncheon at Piccolina Toscana last month!! It was a 50 person sit-down event and was fun and classy from start to finish. The food was completely delicious and very nicely presented. The room looked beautiful, just as we had hoped. The staff did a great job and were friendly and helpful. Working with Dan was so easy, he was always accommodating. A bonus was being able to use the bar/lounge during the event. We had a few kids' activities but if it was a longer event with more kids (or grownups who wanted to play), I could see arcade games, karaoke, a magician or caricaturist, etc. We were thrilled with how the party went and got so many compliments from our guests. I have already recommended it to many people and will continue to do so!

Brunch. It can be so simple. Small menu done right and it's the best meal you had all week. Done wrong.....well you know. These guys do it right. They take the love of Proscuitto and make it an art form. Cream Chipped Proscuitto was so good I almost licked the bowl. Ouvo Inferno was amazing. The cheese board, the desserts and the salads. Wow. Way to Big Dan, this is my new fave for brunch.

Definitely my go to Italian place in Wilmington. The Kitchen salad is great. I liked the octopus appetizer in the past but it didn't taste very fresh last time I was there, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt and keep them at 4 stars ;)

This place is simply great. The food is always consistently delicious and innovative while the service is also always spot on. The menu is constantly updated to incorporate seasonal ingredients which creates an interesting menu all the time. The cocktails are also tasty; I recommend the Toscana Limonata. In addition, I'd suggest getting dessert. Everything I've had has been good especially the Peach Dumplings. Also, the bread is awesome. Just saying.

Wow! This is how best to express my dinning experience at Piccolina Toscana. Took my wife here for Valentine's Day dinner last night and we savored our way through their holiday menu special, the "Festa Di San Valentino." The dishes were magnificently stunning to the eye and almost too breathtakingly delectable to describe! No single bite failed to hit the mark from the truffle parmesan risotto cake to the pan seared sea scallops and braised short rib filled ravioli (AMAZING Demi-Glace) to the angel food cake atop of strawberry soup. Rich and creamy flavors that I'd hoped my tastebuds would never let go of! I'm puzzled by the negative reviews I've read about this restaurant. Perhaps people have become too absorbed in decor expectations and less focused on the on the true meaning of experiencing a wonderful meal with loved ones and good friends. The place was of course crowded on Valentine's Day for dinner but the closeness of other tables and background noise in the restaurant all faded away and became negligible when compared to my enjoyment of the food and oh yeah, my wife's company. I shall return!

We went to Toscana for Wilmington restaurant week since it is one of our favorites. However, once it took us 15 minutes after we sat down to just get a glass of water, let alone drinks and our order, that set the tone for the night. Me and my girlfriend ordered off of the restaurant week menu, which actually is probably more than what we would normally spend at that restaurant. I ordered the gazpacho for appetizer, short rib ravioli for the entree and chocolate karma for desert. My girlfriend ordered the calamari for an appetizer, salmon for the entree and chocolate karma for desert. The calamari we received came to us cold - the plate was hot, but the food clearly had been setting out for a while ready for us, but our server did not bring it to us. We sent it back and was able to get freshly cooked calamari. Thankfully the gazpacho came out correctly. Our entrees were overcooked but because of the problems we had had with our service, the food was hot, so we ate it - The food tasted excellent even though the entrees were slightly overcooked. We discovered that night we were there there was a large party going on in the party room and thats what appears why there were all of these problems. We overheard the waitress serving a table next to us say to them "I'm not going to be here a lot because we have a party going on." Not exactly something I'd want to here, but at least she was honest with them. It wasn't our table that was limited to the poor service, the entire main dining area, we saw was just not being attended to and not once did we have a manager come to our table apologizing or offering us anything.

Mr. V and I went to Toscana after my first work outing at Firestone. I'm not used to semi-fine dining to be located in a strip-mall, because our first attempt, or rather in my first attempt to go there, I was wearing sandals. I was told the tables were white-linened, so it was after an event that the first chance actually arose. Toscana is, obviously, Italian, so quite frankly, I was surprised when Mr. V said yes. He's not a pasta fan, but my hopes are showing him that pasta isn't the only thing Italians do well. And the chef is the owner, as Mr. V pointed out, which is extremely satisfying to any foodie. The menu is small, to the point, and full of choices that made me feel as if I didn't have a choice, that I should order everything. Took a glass of Barbera (a deep, purply red) to calm my nerves! But we had a terrific waitress who let us take our time (perhaps it was because the restaurant wasn't too crowded being a Wednesday night). So, his first choice was a fig plate: figs wrapped in pancetta, with dollops of ricotta, and lines of reduced balsamic. His take: the pancetta overpowered the figs, and he wished that the figs were sweeter because of it. My take: the figs were very sweet, and if you pushed the pancetta to the side (in your mouth), and chewed the figs first, the flavor intensified the pancetta, which is exactly what I think the chef meant to do. It's a bit of work, but I would order them again. Perhaps my Barbera helped. My appetizer was polpo: grilled octopus with arugula and fingerling potatoes. I don't order it often, and might have because, as Mr. V puts it, I order the "weirdest thing" on the menu. And this was close. First reaction was to rid the dish of the potatoes and make the grilled octopus large pieces, instead of chopped. This is not to say that the potatoes were not good, because they were. Just perhaps not with the dish itself. The octopus was absolutely mouthwatering though. And the arugula was very crisp and light. Even with the potatoes, I ate the entire dish. Along with a second glass of Barbera came the next two dishes: Mr. V had been having a hard time ordering, but when he saw the scallops, all bets were off, that was it. The "full" order. And he asked that, too, when the dish came: "This is the full order?" I had a look of surprise, mostly because if I'm not happy with something, I tend to file it in my mind rolodex, and it factors into whether or not I go back. But, as I'm constantly teaching, it was a filling dish, that the size is not as important as the taste and satisfaction of those flavors. I, myself, do not like scallops. My main course was the full order of black mussels. Which, blargh, I did not realize (or read, my mistake) had jalapenos. So the broth was exceptionally spicy, too spicy even. The mussels were babies, small nibbles of beautifully cooked meat within gorgeous black shells. And the four pieces of crusty bread were all eaten, dipped into the exceptionally spicy broth. However, I found myself continuously eating the dish, so the jalapenos were not too bad. Indeed, I found myself dipping my fork into the broth, hoping some of it would remain balanced on the prongs as I sipped it. Perhaps the reason for the return, aside from my third glass of Barbera, were the desserts. I could not decide on one, so only naturally, I ordered two. My two were a fruit and vanilla gelato and a honey-glazed fig and cream. Mr. V's was a a key lime cheesecake A nibble of the cheesecake was enough. The coloring was just right: a light yellow (for those of you who do not know, key lime anything is NOT supposed to be green, but almost white with a yellow tinge). That crust was simply fantastic, enough for Mr. V to say so himself - a rare feat for him. The fruit and vanilla gelato was good, when I ate the fruit with the cream from the other dessert. I probably won't order this again, even if the fruit was farmer's market fresh, and oh-so-sweet. But. The figs. And the honey. And the cream. I could not stop eating it. It was frightfully rich, but delicately light, I devoured it like I would not be able to eat again for a week. Even after everything else. This was heaven in a glass.

This place is fantastic. Great service (we sat on the patio and all the staff came and loved on our dog - she even got her own sample of steak and a bowl of water) the food was delicious - homemade pasta with delicious sauces. And don't forget to order dessert! Everything was great, if only we lived closer!

Toscana used to be an HH staple for me and my girls post college. Though the restaurant was completely revamped (decor, and a few menu changes/ additions) I'm glad to see the kick ass HH menu hasn't changed. $5.00 specialty cocktails- good ones too .$5.00 wines w/ the exception of prosseco . Small plates menu also $5, pizzas, nibbles . The dining room was packed but my girl scooped up the last table in the "lounge" area. It was pretty crowded for a Tuesday buy I recognized a few of the Bartenders so that made getting a menu and drinks fairly easy. I started w/ the sauv blanc and my HH companion did Pinot grigio. We both got salads and a small plate . Small caesar for me and house for her. We split the "really good fries" and a mussels app. The salads were great my dressing was a little bland but the saltiness if the cheese made up for that. LB said hers was ok as well it came with mixed greens and fried goat cheese. The fries are a mix of sweet potato and regular very good ( hence the name I guess) they also come with an aioli for dipping. The only downside to the food was the mussels . They were so tiny I don't even think I can call them "mussels" the breading completely over powered the dish and in comes w/ pancetta so if you don't eat piggies ask for it w/o. I like the bar area the best I've had some really great meals in the dining room but you can relax more in the lounge. The dress code is pretty laxed ..maybe a little too laxed ( I was glad to be done my food before the man came in still wearing his bicycle gear, having to see man prints are a sure fire way to ruin a meal) I mean this place is pretty much a staple in trolley so my returning is a must.

I had he mozzarella-stuffed chicken, the angel hair pasta and the margarita pizza (I polished off my kids meals after mine). All were very good. Good food. Plain atmosphere, but nice, comfortable. Very friendly staff. The gelato desserts were awesome. Get the salted caramel -- very good. And lots of restaurants have great food, rich desserts and them come up teeny with weak coffee. The best cap for a god meal was a nice, hearty cup of coffee. I was with a group of 10, and all of us enjoyed our meals. I recommend the place.

A friend and I ate here tonight. The atmosphere was great for a Tuesday night, nice and quiet just the way I like it! Our waiter John ( if I remember correctly) was great, really nice. I had Mozzarella Fritta which was ok and for an entree I had Involtini di Pollo which was very good. I cannot remember what my friend had but I know he enjoyed his meal and he's a foodie! After dinner we both ordered gelato (I had vanilla and I forget what he had) But we both enjoyed our dinner, this place is good and I'll definitely be retuning!

I am loving the new menu-Dan the owner and chef is keeping it fresh and recently remodeled the restaurant and changed up the menu to an emphasis on small plates. I have been coming here for years and it is always consistently really good. It is my go-to place when I have guests from out of town and it never fails to disappoint. An old favorite is the octopus salad and beef carpacio but I love all of the pasta dishes too! The service is friendly, consistently helpful and knowledgeable and I am loving the new sleek decor!

This place is kind of slow even for take out but the food quality is pretty good! I got the salmon with sauce on the side and pesto pasta to-go. It was around $13.00- decent food and I was surprisingly full even though it didn't look like they gave me enough pasta- thank goodness I didn't order more even though I felt like it. I will be back to sit in and eat next time!
