After seeing so many reviews I had to try, the lower part of the restaurant was hot and smelly, so we decided to go upstairs. Ordered a vegetarian arepa, fried yuca, plantains and grilled chicken. We waited one hour and ten minutes for the food and main dishes came first then appetizers, waitress kept making sure we had drinks and apologizing. First thing i notice is my arepa is missing this avocado side that the menu said it came with, I asked the waitress and she came back from the kitchen saying they didn't have any, but it did come with a pink sauce, the arepa was so greasy that at first bite hot grease squirted on my face, so I squeezed it on the plate and got an inch of grease on the plate. Plantains and yuca were cooked awesome and they came with more mysterious pink sauce.. Last but not least the chicken was so over cooked and dry that you couldnt use a fork on it, it cracked apart and had a burnt taste of non stick oil, rice was extremely oily, salty and hard as if it was in the fridge then microwaved or just left out for a long time. I talked to the manager and she schooled me on how the arepa is cooked in oil and that nothing could be different about it, and that the chicken was fine but I asked if she would eat it like that and she said no.. Presentation on the plate is done with the aid of upside down plates for the rice and stuff. So if you like mysterious pink sauce (all dishes come with it), oily, salty, and over cooked food this is the place for you. Buen provecho!

Went on a Wednesday night. Met owner, this is the soft opening to work out any problems. The food is great - this is not fast food - if you are expecting a quick meal them you haven't been to the islands lately! Service is clumsy but sincere. We ordered 4 apps, and 2 entrees to share. All were very good. We told them to bring it out as it came that we were in no hurry. Try the avocado sauce, it has raw garlic in it but I couldn't stop eating it! . I will def be back again.

Had my birthday party here. The place was a little quiet and a few menu items were not available, but this should be expected for late afternoon on Sunday. Food quality was great and service was excellent. A couple of areas for improvement: don't rush out entrees until everyone at the table has their food ready; get some craft beer on the menu. Other than that, none of the guests in my party complained and the plates went back empty. Chris - the host/bartender - was very accommodating and helpful. Great job, thanks.

Have been wanting to try this place for awhile. Very disappointed. The restaurant had very dirty appearance. Despite being empty, the food arrived very slowly. It was extremely greasy and bland. I do not recommend this place.

Just went to Latin Fusion cafe to have dinner. The food is very good. My hubby had pork, rice, beans and tostones. I had my favorite dish Monfongo. We would of loved to have some dessert but they were out. The dessert is made daily in the morning, and it goes quickly. Hopefully next time we can try their thres leche. The downstairs area is mustard colored with abstract artwork. The downstairs is a small area. Their are a few tables in the main dining area. They have an upstairs area with lounge furniture. I like the brick walls and the urban chic swagger up stairs. I hear they have Latino nights upstairs with a dj on Friday nights.

If you enjoy a lot of food you will truly enjoy this. The waiter was nice the bartender was good and it was $2 Tuesday

Walked in to a small, very small bar and a room bare of any tables and chairs, DJ was setting up. Down stairs was closed, and this was a Friday at 7:30pm. Bartender was nice, and food was served hot but I'm still burping up the appetizer I are and that was two days ago. Was hoping for more from this place but we struck out. Maybe another trip back on a non weekend night to hopefully get a better feeling!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well, you know... I first went to Latin Fusion a year ago, close to when it first opened. The food was quite good, but I was extremely disappointed with the service. Everything was slow and once our food was delivered, our server never approached our table to check on us, which prevented me from ordering an enticing cocktail I had eyed up on the drink list. Tonight I decided to give this restaurant another chance, hoping they had gotten their act together since their initial opening. At the time we were seated, there was one other party (granted, a large party) in the restaurant, and it took us a long time to even have a server approach our table. After ordering drinks, the beer we ordered was quickly delivered, but my glass of wine took about another 10 minutes. After about 20-25 minutes of being no where near placing a food order, we decided to cut our losses and end our experience with the drinks. Both visits have been very disappointing. I will not be returning.

Well after we all closed and good friends, got together yesterday to wish a fear well to Hector's... I have to say this Latin Fusion have the most horrible service ever... Waiting 2hours for a disgusting food it looks like just open a can of vegetables and it taste like shit in the so call home made empanadas please people I , we , all should support our local business, but with ppl like this NO way Jose, drinks extremely short and ( "the patron tequila" )..."?!!!" taste like 120 proof rubber alcohol no good, keep it simple... Costumer service isn't about just open a restaurant and serve frozen food... If I was the owner of that place I would closed now... Don't put the Latino name in your business name you make US look bad please have some decency and closed your doors...

Absolutely horrible service & even worse food-even my dogs wouldn't eat it (they just sniffed & walked away). PLEASE DONT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS DINING EXPERIENCE!

We ordered the empanadas which were horrible! They were basically frozen beef patties with a mayonnaise/ketchup dipping sauce. After ordering the entree prior to getting the appetizer (camarones) it tasted like a disgusting combination of garlic and smelled like a stinky gym sock. Needless to say will never come back and PLEASE DO NOT COME to this hole in the wall!

I had been hearing a lot about LF so i was looking forward to trying it out. Unfortunately my experience wasn't nearly as good as some of the others. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't worth wanting to return. FIrst, the decor is cute, but that's about all. Some paintings, cute tables, again, nothing to write home about. The music sounded like it was coming from a boombox in the kitchen. It wasn't decentralized so that it was playing in the background. It was all from one area and it was WSTW, not a selection of Latin music which would created greater ambience, especially if it was wafting through the pluace and not just coming from one speaker. Most don't realize what a difference this makes because it's background in your good restaurants. This was just distracting. I found the chairs to be very uncomfortable. Too often, furniture is picked because of it's appearance and not because of it's comfort. This seemed to be the case Next, it was very hot where we were sitting. Not sure how much the votif candles had to do with it, but we were sitting near the windows (it was cloudy so it wasn't because of the sun) and there were no fans above us. We were half way through dinner by the time we realized that we were uncomfortably warm. The prices were reasonable. The chips served initally were very good and the sauce for dipping complemented the chips well. For an app we split the Venezualan corn bread with seasoned chicken. It didn't have much flavor. It just tasted like it was missing somehting. For an entree I ordered the Shrimp and white rice with Garlic sauce. This was good. The sauce made the dish. WIthout it, it would have been pretty bland. My guest ordered the salmon and she enjoyed her dish, but didn't feel like there was anything special about it. Overall, I felt that there was no WOW factor that would want me to visit again. There are too many other great restaurants that have the WOW factor in the area to make this place worth a second visit.

We like to support new restaurants in the area. So when we saw a deal , we grab it. On Friday, we arrived at 6:25 and only one other table was occupied . After a reasonable amt of time the young waitress came over and asked if we questions. My husband is allergic to the family of onions, so the waitress did check w/ the chef. To make a long story short, everything came out piecemeal . We had to hunt her down for beverages and the check. The pepper steak was ordinary and salty but the chicken Milanese was tasty . The service was poor at best and it left a poor impression on us

I wanted to like this place. I really did. But They served me bloody chicken. It was supposed to be Latin Chicken but they were chicken thigh bones with hardly any meat on them and blood was running on the plate. I was completely disgusted and left. Didn't even order the entree. N on another note the server was nice, but kept discouraging us to get a bar drink since she would have to go upstairs for them. In hindsight, I wish I would have listened because I had very Lil vodka in my cranberry juice. Yet paid like $8 for it. I'll never be back.

This review is really late but it needs to be written because their Instagram is deceiving. My boyfriend and I tried this place last summer. It was 9:30p and we wanted to get a drink, a bite to eat and of course listen to some latin music. Strike 1) we walk in (totally pitch black with 1 strobe light burning my eyeballs) and are stopped by some scrawny dude asking for $10 to enter. --For what?! "Oh, we're having a private party tonight and are charging the public." We're just here to try the bar and order food. "Y'all can go to the bar but the kitchen is closed."-- With a deep sigh and desperation to enjoy something close to home, my boyfriend gives him $10. Strike 2) We head up the most rickety steps which leads to the bar. Now, music is blaring, you would figure there would a good amount of people, nope. To one side I got a small group of folks that just left the office and on the other side, I got what looks to be a band heading out the door. Let me add, the carpet is stained and the floor looks like it's dipping. Anyway, no one comes to seat us and forget being greeted, so we sit ourselves down near the bar. We look around, take it all in and I begin to count down the minutes until we leave. As others have said, service is AWFUL. So I'll say the same, it's trash. Strike 3) We want a drink so I'll just grab this menu over here; is that cooked food I smell?? Yes, these girls at bar seem to have a some kind of dish in front of them (I just remember seeing rice) and another table is being served a fresh hot meal. I thought the kitchen was closed..? --Um, excuse me, we'd like to put in an order; "all we have are wings" (but she had just brought out what looked to be a bad interpretation of Mofongo). You know what, that's ok, we're leaving. -- We head back down the steps and find the guy that took our $10. --Hey, we're leaving so I'll need that $10 back. "Oh, sorry no refunds". We didn't order any drinks and the kitchen is open but we didn't order from that either. "Well sorry, I can't give the money back."-- My boyfriend steps up to him as I head to the door and say --You might want to hand back that money, dude. We're leaving.-- Refunded. I CANNOT believe this place is still open calling themselves a restaurant and/or lounge. Cut the BS and get serious or shut it down. I wish Wilmington would stop just letting anybody open a restaurant, let alone, a place of business. It leaves a bad impression on the city. I wish they would get it together so I could return but until that happens, forget that.

I had a very pleasant experience upon my return visit and wanted to share. Had a meeting filled day so I arrived close to rush hour to enjoy a very late lunch. I was greeted right away upon entering and seated. I should have asked but I believe it was one of the managers who was taking care of me. She was very friendly, attentive and helpful with her recommendations. I wanted a variety so went with a few small plate items: fried yuca, arepas reina pepiada (chicken and avocado in corn patties), and shrimp mofongo. All of the dishes came well plated, nice portions, and tasted great! I love roots like taro and cassava and enjoyed the lightly battered and fried yuca which was accompanied by their mayo style sauce. The arepas, which is a corn based patty, was really delicious. It had a nice chewy yet crunchy texture and went well with the chicken and avocado nested inside. I never had mofongo before and thought it was very unique and tasty. It is mashed plantains mixed with meat and your choice of either a garlic or tomato based sauce. I took the server's recommendation for garlic which I was already leaning towards since I love that aromatic veggie in abundance. Texture, taste and appearance were very good. The garlic sauce was potent and made the plantains and shrimp boast with flavor. I saved some to eat later so I would have room for dessert. The flan looked like a slice of cheesecake, was rich and had that custard, vanilla, caramel taste you look for. Wasnt too sweet and really ended the meal nicely. As I mentioned previously this place is in a nice location and the yellow pops it out from the crowd so you cannot miss it. Street parking is reasonable although you may need to walk a block depending on the time. If you hang out at any of the city hot spots then you are already used to it. Some things to note: They do take credit cards now. They have a bar upstairs hosting weekday happy hours running from 4-7pm with various daily specials. DJ on Fri nights playing Latin style music with no cover. Good food and service. Looking forward to trying one of their entrees on my next visit.

AMAZING! Great staff, food, drinks, and fair prices. Empanadas could have used a little more meet in the middle, but I highly recommend any dish that includes shrimp.
