El Toro is one of my favorite places for Mexican take-out The food is all ways prepared fresh and homemade whenever I'm in town I tried to stop by

Mediocre at best. I've had plenty of Mexican. This is one of the few "authentic" Mexican spots that sell ground hamburger meat. Not authentic... Very disappointed in the taste, it was very bland and not seasoned at all. El pique is just a drive down the road, best tacos in Wilmington area hands down.

heard about from co-worker of wife. Tried and became an instant fan. Everything is fresh and delicious. I am a big fan of the torta cubana. Wife likes the chicken chimichanga. Neil K gave two reviews and both were negative. Don't pay attention.

I live in Philadelphia (graduate hospital) and drive 35 minuets for this and have been for over 15 years. Best Mexican I have ever had. the Chilaquilas with the chicken over the chips is a real treat and my favorite order. I like mine the hottest so no one else in the house takes my left overs!!! I have to remind myself not all entrees come with beans anymore so you have to order a side, and dip some chips in them. I brought my boyfriend for the first time today for take out. We were too excited we had to sit and eat our chicken supreme nachos before we hit the road!

I love love love El Toro. The owner really takes it seriously and uses the best meat he can find. We had the chicken wings once and it was a disappointment but that's not really what the place is known for. The lunch specials are a good deal

Have a back up lunch, when you order just incase it may take an hour and 45 minutes for your food to arrive. Delivery service sucks!

We had ordered from this place several times, as it is next to our employment. The food has always been sub par and barely edible, but because to proximity we always ordered. Today we finally had it. The manager didn't deliver our entire $72 meal and refused to send a courier for the rest of the delivery. The users that gave this establishment 3 stars or better probably haven't traveled outside of the 19805 ever in their lives and have the refined palate of a 4 year old.

Finally! A Mexican restaurant that captures the essence of Mexico. I had the carnitas taco. Juicy, delicious carnitas with onions, cilantro and a lime wedge, just the way I've had the street tacos in Mexico! The chile relleno and beans were terrific too. It's a teeny little place. Only 3 tables, but they deliver. I'm so glad this place was suggested to me and I'm SO sure we will be ordering from here all the time!

it will totally satisfy that craving for an authentic Mexican meal. The place is ridiculously delicious. The destination for a spicy food addiction.

Great authentic Mexican takeout. I eat here at least once a week. Fresh prepared ingredients, and prompt service.

Eh go elsewhere. People are rude and overcharge you for crappy food.

Looking for awesome, authentic tacos Mexicana in Wilmington? El Toro gets five stars for both quality and taste. The carnitas tacos are delicious, even if you're not one who typically orders pork. Lean, freshly grilled pulled pork, seasoned to perfection. The tacos asada are equally as good, fresh, charred just right. This little shop offers very limited seating and is best suited for take out orders if you're more than two people. Parking is limited to the street so calling ahead would be best to do a quick pick-up; otherwise, plan to search for parking on a busy weekday or weekend evening. Still, dropping by this true hidden treasure on the edge of Wilmington's Little Italy is a treat you shouldn't refuse yourself. Mui bueno! Viva El Toro!

Great authentic Mexican food at an affordable price. I've tried several things there (tacos, enchiladas, taco salad, nachos supreme, chimichanga) and all were amazing. The only downside to this place is there is very little seating space - if you have more than two people in your party you can sometimes get seating but you also need to be prepared to take it to go if needed.

Had lunch from here today and wasn't impressed. It's standard fare. They claim to be "authentic," but it's along the lines of La Tolteca (La Tonalteca), which means substandard "authentic" Mexican food. It never ceases to amaze me how people in these parts seem to "know" what good Mexican food is. Unforutnately, this isn't it (nor are the others listed above). On to the next Mexican restaurant...

Nice lunch. Great chile relleno surprise potato filling. Guacamole ok, not great. Nice people working there, friendly.

NOT something you'd go out of your way for but if you want some decent mexican tacos and you're nearby, you could do so much worse in Wilmington. It has all of the ambience of a ghetto chinese takeout joint but the food is notably better. This is a take-out only place that happens to have a dirty table or two. Is the food "amazingly good mexican"? No, not even close. However, sadly enough it's the best you'll do in Wilmington. Asi... 4 estrellas para ti El Toro. Nadie esta mas mejor.. en Wilmington. La Verdad.

Wilmington has a few really great authentic taco shops if you know where to look and this is one of them. Venture out from the standard safe chicken soft-shell taco and you will be amazed. The service is always friendly and even with less than a dozen seats it is worth being cramped to get this food fresh and hot. TIP: The queso (cheese) dip at most mexican places is dreadful, here they use authentic mexican cheeses instead of the processed american garbage and the result is white gold.

I have been going to this place since I was a teenager and in the 12 years I have been a customer I have never got bad food from here. It used to be more awesome about 10 years ago when the cook used to listen to Mexican death metal while making your food. If you have more than +1 get the food to go because there isn't much seating space.

OMG. Best Mexican I have tasted north of the Mason-Dixon... Admittedly, we passed this place by the first time we were going to go there. If you are looking for a sit-down restaurant, this is not necessarily where you want to go, but believe me IT IS WORTH IT!!! There are only 4 tables, but we've only taken-out, so it doesn't bother me :-D First, the carnitas. Holy melt-in-your-mouth pork. Seasoned great, with the BEST, read BEST mexican rice I have EVER had, and of course refried beans. I have always gotten the corn tortillas which are DELISH! And the hot salsa is Yumm-o. It is on the spicy side, so if you're not up for the challenge, ask for the mild, or both (they are generous with the salsa) I've gotten the enchiladas (the sauce is heavenly), the Chimichanga (lightly fried, in a nice white queso sauce), and the "Special Dinner", which is a chalupa, chile relleno, taco, and enchilada.. ALL of it YUMMY. OH!! The GUACAMOLE! Let me say, I don't even eat avocados. I hardly eat guacamole, but this, this, is sent from a magical place. I can't even begin to describe how to delicious it is. All of the dishes come with a "guacamole salad" just shredded lettuce, guac, and pico de gallo. So good. I know I've been long-winded, but this place deserves some CREDIT. We go there AT LEAST once a week :-) TRY IT!!! PS, ubercheap..We haven't paid more than $20 for 2 dinners (and we are both STUFFED after) If you happen to order a daily special, you may get out cheaper (under $14 when we got the Chimichanga specials)

Food was average. For the money it is a good value. Quick food and they guys working there were really friendly and helpful

I've been to a lot of divey Mexican restaurants/taco shops in various cities, where you trade ambiance for quality--so, upon finding this cramped, unwelcoming little restaurant, I figured the food had to be great. I was wrong. The tacos were mediocre--I'm not sure what they did to the meat, but it was very, very weird--and the burrito was inedible. I have no idea how anyone can make a tortilla soggy and disgusting, but they somehow managed to. The rice was also really gross. I guess if I didn't have any experience with good taco shops I might like El Toro since it's pretty cheap, but the quality is so low that they should pay ME to eat there.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
