This place was great! We were hesitant because of the other reviews, but had great service. I ordered cream crab soup. It was on the thin side but still tasty I just prefer it to be thicker. I also ordered the fishermans platter which had fried flounder, 6 fried shrimp, 6 fried scallops, hush puppies and coleslaw. I had more than enough and ended up giving some to my bf. The scallops were the little bay scallops not sea. My boyfriend ordered the fried shrimp on special came with fries and coleslaw and an order of steamed clams. Our apps came out so fast probably 3-5 minutes. Our dinner came out about 7 minutes after that. Everything was awesome. My boyfriend also ordered the swampwater drink which was a large bright green mason jar drink that had a cat tail in it. He didn't think it was worth 8.50 but it's a novelty. We had great service, great meal. By no means healthy but we didn't expect that. Paid 46$. Not bad at all!

3.5 stars - hubby and I went to Boondocks for the first time today. It took about 15 minutes to get menus, so we were not impressed with that. We ordered a dozen crabs, a fried seafood sampler, corn and fries. The crabs were excellent; meaty and nicely seasoned. The corn was fresh and sweet. The fried sampler came with fish, shrimp, scallops & hush puppies. It was just ok, like it was purchased frozen and deep fried to order. We would definitely go back for crabs & corn. Our server was friendly and helpful with suggestions.

Finally decided to visit. We moved to the area 5+ years ago and just never got around to checking Boondocks out. Really glad we finally went. We like fried food so we enjoyed our meals. Our server was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The place was bright and clean and a little on the loud side. We don't mind loud and it actually made the experience a little more exciting. There was a birthday there tonight and I have never heard such loud singing. I was happy for the birthday girl/guy. Swamp water, their signature drink, looks really interesting. I will be trying that next time we go back. Definitely recommend it! Katherine was our waitress and she was perfect.

Over the last ten years, I have been to Boondocks about dozen times. And have never had any complaints until my last trip. My fiance and I went there for dinner over the weekend and our meal was good, but I will not return because their prices have reached an all-time high. And can not be justified for the small portions they serve. I ordered the dungeness crab cluster. That's right "cluster"...as in only 1. Previously, you were given 2 clusters and an ear of corn for $15.00. Now they serve it as 1 cluster (which is half a crab) for $12.00 and that's all you get. It's a good thing I have a small appetite otherwise my dinner would have cost a small fortune. I added an order of the hush puppies (add another $4.50) and an ear of fresh corn on the cob (add another $2.50). My fiance ordered their version of the "surf and turf" which is an 8oz filet mignon and steamed shrimp. He got 5 medium sized shrimp on his plate, along with some fried potatoes. All for $28.00!!!! It was outrageous and the steak wasn't very flavorful. Basically, we had an average dinner for a well-above average price. I will not go back there again to eat. It's a shame because it used to be a really great and affordable place. If you are going to go there just for crabs and beer, it's probably ok ( they had a special of one dozen crabs .... they were very large ... for $49.00 ). Otherwise, you will get charged for extras like fries and corn and hush pupplies. Even those items are pricey. Hush pupplies are basically fried cornbread. They charge $4.50 for six little balls. You can't get a meal and a drink there for under $50.00. For a couple, plan on spending at least $75.00 (if you plan on ordering a beer or two). For a family of four or more.....I suggest cashing out your 401(k) if you want to afford this place. Sorry.

The crabs and waitstaff were very good and the prices were reasonable. The wings were below average on the pig out platter and the fried flounder on the special was ok. Fries were decent with old bay like seasoning. All in all a decent meal, but it was the crabs that pushed this to a 4 star rating, otherwise it was a solid three.

Went here recently with some co-workers to try out a new Smyrna restaurant. The great thing about this place is that, in-season, the seafood is all extraordinarily fresh. The unfortunate thing is that the primary trick in the chef's repertoire is "fried," which in my opinion tends to mask the savory flavor of fresh seafood. Their hush puppies (also fried) are delicious - a hard-to-find southern treat in these northern demesnes. The price is a bit higher than other local restaurants, but there are several menu items whose extraordinarily large portions justify that price. The selection of beers on tap was decidedly average; I do wish I had tried their signature "swamp water" drink. The ambiance was decidedly apropos for local Smyrna restaurant (the bathroom is bedecked with clothing items from a woman's boudoir), but certainly no complaints about cleanliness. All in all, I liked it well enough to consider trying it again, but I won't be a regular.

The Boondocks, I admit is a pretty great place. But some of the things about it did not take to my liking. I only tried the crabs and they were a bit spicy. After the meal, I checked around just looking at the decorations. My experience of that and the gift shop showed me that this was not exactly a restaurant for families. My guess is that it is not intended for kids and more for adults.

Eating here is definitely an experience. A hammer, paper towels, plastic on the tables, and the drinking glasses are glass jars. It's a fun place to go for yummy fresh crabs in the summer. When else do you get to beat stuff with a hammer in public? It's good fresh seafood in a fun atmosphere. Just don't bring any vegetarians or people who don't like seafood.

All crab shacks are not created equal! Only people who are lost, or just locals, will find this place. The restaurant has three distinctive eating areas to accommodate large groups or functions. The dinner tables are covered in plastic, instead of paper, to assist in cleanup. I didn't like the plastic always sticking to my arms when I rested my arms on the table. The waitress was friendly and the service was good. There is a small flag inside the paper towel to wave, when you need your server's attention. The menu was simple and the pricing seemed high. The 1/2 lb of steamed shrimp was $13 dollars. I had two crab cakes, fries and slaw...$21 dollars! The crab cakes were overcooked and didn't have much crab meat in it! They should call them hush puppy cakes. Quirky note: this establishment uses woman's bras and corsets suspended from the bathroom ceiling for decoration! I don't know if the underwear was purchased or from party hardy restaurant patrons.
