My last visit here was a year ago almost to the day. Just like last time we were on our way back from Philly and wanted to get some lunch. Doyle's had really left a good impression on us during the previous visit so we decided to stop in again. We elected to eat in the diner area this time instead of one of the dining rooms off to the site. The diner is cool. It definitely takes you back to a bygone era with old signs and even the seats on the booths have an old vinyl with a sort of metallic red in them. The diner area itself is not the kitchen though, it's more of a coffee and desert counter. They make shakes there as well. Mom elected to have the same thing she has last time, a club sandwich with a side of apple sauce instead of fries. I decided to give one of their burgers a try. I wish I hadn't. When our meals came out they looked great. I knew though as soon as I too a bite of my burger that I was eating frozen puck. The meat was unseasoned and tasteless and unfortunately no amount of pepper or mustard could fix it. I ate it, it filled the void, that's about it. Mom on the other hand was very happy with her club which had thick slices of turkey on it and of course her fresh applesauce. Our service was good and the server we had kept the drinks full and followed up with us regularly. So overall, if you want a burger, I'd recommend passing on that here and going with another sandwich or one of the specials.

Had not been in awhile because the food was not the greatest so we went again the waitress was rude again!! And had a new menu French fries were cold! Mash potatoes where nasty the turkey was fresh but the gravy was gross! Sad that they can't get it together!

2pm arrival, so not busy so service was quick. I had the Cream of Crab soup and a spinach salad with chicken, bacon, feta cheese & hard boiled egg with raspberry vinaigrette. Can't say enough good things aabout all of it! My husband had the crab cake sandwich and mmmmmmmm'd throught the entire thing.

The service is friendly, the food is affordable, and the menu selection is wide. The quality of the food is varied leaning toward cheap. Bear in mind that this place started as a country diner in the '50s. Select from the menu accordingly. For instance, my wife's chocolate shake was made in the old-fashioned style and was excellent. An oddity: their cornbread is a combination of savory and sweet with just the right amount of coarseness to make this cornbread aficionado most pleased.

Who annihlated the doyle's diner bathroom on cinco de mayo 2013? It was the worst thing I've ever seen!...... The food was ok though

We pulled into McDonald's and they just ended breakfast so we got back in the car and when we got to the intersection to get back on the road, DOYLE'S was front and center! From the outside it looks all beat up so we knew the food would be awesome!!!! And it was!!!!! Huge spinach, jalepeno, Swiss omlette, crispy home fries, biscuit, pancakes, apple syrup, eggs over easy, bacon, and a huge slice of Virginia ham. It doesn't get better than this!! The other review said their server wasn't friendly...we might've gotten the same one but we didn't mind it either way. She was on top of our order and was attentive enough. FOOD WAS GREAT! And the bathroom smelled good and clean.

Stopped in here for a quick bite on the road and picked up the gardner sandwich and notchur mommas grilled cheese sandwich. Had to wait a pretty long time for our food. The gardner was edible, the grilled cheese not so much with its overwhelming bacon artery clogging flavor. Looks like a cute family restaurant with an old fashioned bar diner to the side. For a place that's been open since 1949.. its in pretty good condition.

My family and I came here on vacation. After a long drive we were all hungry and saw this place along the road. Upon entering it appears very quaint and southern. We sat down and I ordered the southern ice tea and the all you can eat 4 piece chicken. The tea had a bitter/strange taste to it, but it maybe because I'm accustomed to Lipton brand. On the menu it states that the chicken will take 20 minutes to make. I ordered it anyways hoping that time is being compromised for the superior quality. Along with the chicken I ordered a Caesar side salad. A pre made salad with Caesar salad dressing came out within three minutes with too much cheese. I was disappointed. It was around this time that the two waitresses started talking and laughing very loudly about 5 ft away at the waitresses station, and they were not talking about work. The chicken finally came and I wasn't too happy. They gave you a lot of chicken but the skin was missing a definite crunch and seemed very thin. I tried the crab cakes off of my fathers plate and they were delicious, with lots of meat and barely any filling. I wish I would have ordered those. I ordered the cherry pie for dessert and it was pretty sub-par compared to what I can get back home. Throughout the service I think I received about one ice tea refill vein though it was $2.29 with free refills. I wasn't thrilled with the place, and I probably wouldn't come back unless I was starving but if I did, I would get the crab cakes. They are to be celebrated.

We stopped here today on the way to the beach, thinking we'd get a decent inexpensive meal. Instead, we got foul tasting water, incredibly small portions, and a long wait for the privilege. While the waitstaff was friendly, it didn't make up for the poor quality of the food. I wouldn't recommend this eatery to anyone passing through this area.

I was in a benadryl coma when we arrived, so the place didn't make much of an impression on me, but the food was good, and the building was bright and clean, with plentiful parking. I had chicken and dumplings, but before we even ordered, there was a complimentary bread basket with rolls and the best damned cornbread I've had in quite a while. And real butter, not margarine. The dumplings were fantastic, and the serving was way more than I could actually eat, even after 2 1/2 hours of kayaking out at Assateague. My companions, who'd been there before, raved about the apple dumplings, so I got one of those to go - also delicious. For some reason, though, the waitress was about as friendly as you'd be to someone you thought was about to rip you off. She was prompt and efficient, and I never had an empty glass (again, after 2 1/2 hours of kayaking, I was guzzling water like it was going out of style), but she was definitely not friendly.

Don't understand why this place is popular. Food is lousy, way over priced and service was poor. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

We were traveling through on our way home from Ocean City, Maryland. It was a great find! The homemade burger and milkshake was fabulous. Service was very attentive, and food took a bit of time, but when everything is homemade- that is what happens! I strongly suggest it!

On our way home from NY we decided to stop here. Our service was great. She was friendly and gave us space to enjoy our lunch. The food was nothing special. It was good, but nothing that I have to have again. The prices are very reasonable.

My daughter, grandson, and I went to Doyle's yesterday to grab lunch while out antiquing. We are from the area and have been to Doyle's a handful of times and up until yesterday always had a satisfactory experience (reason for two stars instead of one). We walked in and were greeted promptly and sat in a booth near the back. We waited over ten minutes and no one had even touched the table. There was a private party in the back room and my daughter noticed servers were assigned to that party and there were 3+ servers in the dining room with one table each, so certainly being weeded was not the case here. While we patiently waited with a one year old we also noticed a server just standing at the front talking to the hostess. We ended up walking out since we were never waited on. We were not questioned on the way out so we had to go across the street and have McDonald's since we lost precious sitting time with the baby.

Not great but not bad . Great service makes up for the average food.

I don't really recommend this place unless you haven't eaten in awhile. Of course I may not have made the wisest decision twice in a row by helping myself to the breakfast buffet. (the first time i was returning from a miserable camping trip, thus my indiscretion the second time around). The buffet had little or no color, but was filled only with meats and grains and heart clogging sauces. There were no fresh fruits or vegetables, only peaches in syrup. To the benefit of the establishment I will say this: it was a friendly atmosphere and not too expensive.

a true diner in my opinion. small and quaint, super cute, friendly people, all of them with hick accents. clean. my friend and i both ordered the chocolate milk, which was HUGE and seriously so delicious! (you can go very wrong with chocolate milk, and it's hard to find a thick creamy one-- this one was perfect). i got a breakfast plate: one egg, home fries, corned beef hash, and toast ($4.99). the egg was served perfectly over-easy, which was amazing, the home fries seasoned just right... everything was done well. we all left satisfied.
