I think my family visited this place every day during our vacation this summer for breakfast and/or ice cream. The staff is extremely friendly, and the breakfasts are great! We never had more than a five minute wait for a table, and our food arrived pretty rapidly after our orders.

Very friendly service and great atmosphere. Very reasonable prices. Get the French toast with Italian bread! Its fantastic!

I went here for the first time a couple weeks ago. The line to get in was long but there were only two of us so we were seated very quickly. The breakfast was delicious and the service was great. I would definitely go back again.

Best breakfast place to eat while having a nice vacation at Rehoboth Beach, very family friendly, staff is amazing and polite. Their food is very fresh, their home made fries are delicious!

Charming little place just off of Rehoboth Ave. Ice cream good but not great, probably the best I've found in Rehoboth, especially with the demise of Ben and Jerry's. They have breakfast too, which I haven't tried. It's aptly named; a lot of indulgent options for a satisfying cap on a long day at the beach.

Great ice cream place. My wife, daughter and it liked the old time atmosphere, very good service, great ice cream, and friendly workers and customers. Can't believe we were first timers after visiting Rehoboth Beach for so many years. The banana split was great with generous toppings. The sundaes were also very enjoyable. We ate in the screen in porch area. Very efficient bus boy leaving tables clean for next customer.

One of those places that just makes you want to say, "awwwww!" It's sooo good! If you're visiting at night, try to know what you want by the time you get to the counter. They move pretty fast. I love the Hershey's ice cream, the ice cold water, fresh whipped cream, and screened in patio. This place goes on my "must visit" list each summer. I have a hard time deciding between the cone or the sundae - both are excellent - and I can get my favorite flavor, chocolate chip, which seems to be a dying breed at most ice cream shops. The atmosphere is cheerful and old-timey. If you're in Rehoboth, skip the Coldstone one night and go here instead. You won't be disappointed.

The Royal Treat is a summertime tradition for my family and friends. We go up to Rehoboth each year, and the FIRST thing I want is a big ol' scoop of deliciousness from the ice cream parlor. Some people prefer the soft-serve frozen custard available along the boardwalk, but I'm a hard ice cream girl all the way. Plus, after a night of too many Orange Crushes at the Lighthouse in Dewey, nothing hits the spot quite like the thick french toast or ginormous pancakes that Royal Treat serves up each morning. Warning: get there early because the line goes out the door (for both ice cream and breakfast!)... Enjoying summer treats in a restored home just can't be beat. Royal Treat rocks!!!

Came here with my 11 yo daughter at 7:47 am. Place opens up at 8 am. There was already a line. 'Nuff said.
(4)Gail S.
Chocolate soda! The girl knew what one was and how to make it. And I got it in a real glass. And I ate it on a screened in porch. It just doesn't get any better.

Royal Treat hasn't changed at all in the 25 years I've been going there, and that's a great thing. I've only been there a few times for breakfast and it's been years since the last time, but I remember liking the blueberry pancakes. A friend of mine swears by the french toast. This place is all about the ice cream for me. When I was a kid I always got the hot fudge sundaes. They are made with real hot fudge, not chocolate sauce, and I've never had a bad ice cream flavor here - I especially love the whitehouse cherry. Now that I'm all grown up, my treat of choice is a chocolate ice cream soda with vanilla ice cream. My mother gets the strawberry ice cream soda with strawberry ice cream and my father gets the vanilla ice cream soda with vanilla chocolate chip ice cream. Be sure to ask for extra seltzer water so that you can refill your glass a little and extend your drink.

Couldn't decide between 3/4 stars. I went with 4 because I didn't try their ice cream and only enjoyed brunch. Seeing that it is the only place in Rehoboth to serve brunch, it is a must go! With reasonable prices, indoor/outdoor seating, a large menu and free coffee with all meals - this place is perfect. The seating process is a bit confusing from first-timers, but I have to say, it eventually works... Just don't lose your spot in line!

BEST breakfast and BEST ice cream! We love the place and Deb the hostess is WONDERFUL! We go there often for breakfast and ice cream! :-)
(5)Jeffrey F.
My personal second best breakfast in Rehoboth. Usually long l ones but worth the wait. Prices are reasonable and food is cooked to order. The ambiance is awesome. Sea breezes on the screened porch of an old but modernized classic shore boarding house.
(5)Nick A.
Be it Breakfast or Old Fashion ice cream creations you will always have a "ROYAL" treat here ! Should be on everyones list to visit when your in town ...

This review is only for breakfast. That being said the menu is pretty limited. You can have eggs, eggs with bacon, eggs with ham, etc. But I can't hate on that since everything made was so good, and the portions were beyond generous. I had an omelette with the fixings and it was simple but delicious. Looking at my photo, I'm trying to guess how many eggs went into it... Also of note, there were no healthy substitutions I saw. No option for egg whites, all the toasts were slathered in butter. This is a point in favor for me because this is the kind of place that makes you go back and nap after breakfast. It makes no apologies for this or tries to cover it up, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Super friendly staff, fair prices (did not get charged extra for additional coffee - win) and not too bad a wait during a holiday weekend. Highly recommend to those looking for a no-frills meal. Edit: same day, late afternoon. Just came back from this place again getting ice cream. It was awesome.
(5)Michele J.
Hershey's Ice Cream. Good Stuff. Nice kids behind the line.
(3)Jen R.
This place is fabulous. Menu might be slightly limited for breakfast, but that's really all you need. Everything tastes good and the price for what you get is unbeatable. There omelettes are the way to go. Must go to at Rehoboth beach!
(5)Patti N.
Doris and her daughter Debbie run the joint and are two of the nicest people ever met and hospitality. I had my dog parked on the bench outside and saw lots of people enjoying breakfast. Before I knew it they came out to greet us. If they treat their guess like they do passersby, I am a true believer I'll be back when the ice cream parlor open this afternoon.

This place only serves breakfast and ice cream. This is a review about breakfast. When I arrived and saw the line, I cringed, figuring it was going to be a long wait, but this place is different. When a table for two opens up, they walk through the line finding a couple to fill that table. We were seated in about ten minutes, which was mighty good. Having never been here, I asked my friend for a recommendation, and then ordered the three buttermilk pancakes with bacon. About 15 minutes later a piping hot plate with pancakes that filled the entire plate were served with four crisp bacon strips prepared just the way I liked them. The food was great, service matched the food and were constantly asking if we needed anything. Another good thing was the fact that they leave the check when the food arrives so you can leave and pay up front wherever you are ready. I believe this may be a cash only restaurant but I'm not 100% sure since I was treated to breakfast. Give the Royal Treat a try when you are in Rehoboth Beach, you can't go wrong!

Waited about half an hour to be sat for Sunday breakfast, but it was well worth the wait. Essentially I ordered enough breakfast for 3 people but I wanted everything on the menu. Eggs and bacon were great, toast was delicious and the Italian French toast.....I will never have French toast that good again I bet. Loved this place so much. Really cute and staff was friendly. So glad we stuck in line to wait.
(5)Kathy O.
In the summer- They close breakfast service at 12:00, then reopen for ice cream at one till 9:30pm
(5)Hannah K.
Arrived for breakfast at 9:30AM on a Sunday morning to find a line already out the door. Glad we stuck it out though, because the line only got longer! Took about 30 minutes to get a table for four. The menu was very simple (eggs, pancakes, French toast) but portions were huge, cheap, and DELICIOUS! The space is really cute inside, looks like an old fashioned ice cream parlor (which it is). Unfortunately they don't serve ice cream at breakfast! Most of the servers were young (high school maybe) but they were attentive and service was good. I will definitely be back next time I am in Rehoboth!
(5)Matt R.
I have been going to Rehoboth for years and have not been able to find an outstanding breakfast spot. I just found it! The pancakes are awesome and you can't beat the prices. Definitely not a tourist trap. Very friendly staff and was able to seat us in less than five minutes (although the line was out the door when we arrived). Looking forward to trying a milkshake!
(5)Antonia N.
Ah-mazing!!!! Homemade dark chocolate hot fudge, whipped cream and amazing salted caramel ice cream. Skip the crappy places on the boardwalk and come here.
(5)Joe B.
The service here is very good. I had an enjoyable breakfast of French toast and sausage. But nothing outstanding and nothing that I would probably remember. I need to come back for the ice cream.
(4)Chris R.
Great friendly service and menu options, I personally recommend the Birthday cake ice cream
(4)Molly G.
A landmark in Rehoboth! Delicious ice cream and breakfast. True old fashioned sundaes complete with glass sundae cup. Prices are good and seating on screened in deck is nice. Stroller parking out front. The home made whipped cream is excellent!
(5)Julie W.
Very great breakfast; wonderful staff, close to the beach, nice atmosphere. Tip: they bring the check with the food so you can pay and leave whenever you're done. Not too badly priced for a beach town.
(4)Ike D.
By far one of the best breakfast restaurants my family and I have ever been to. Don't let the long line scare you. It's worth of 5-10 minute wait. The service is super friendly, almost family-like. And the food is to die for! If you are in Rehoboth Beach, don't miss this place.
(5)Don B.
We stopped here for breakfast twice during our recent vacation. It has an adorable country feel in a beach setting and with affordable prices and delicious home style meals. The Italian bread French toast was to die for, as was the two eggs and meat platter. Portions were extremely generous... Even one egg seemed to fill half the plate! Our kids loved the pancakes as they were huge and delicious. The staff seems a bit overwhelmed during a rush, but they were always polite and helpful. Prices were very reasonable and we will always stop here in the future!!

I am a huge peanut butter fan and I got a peanut butter sundae with chocolate peanut butter ice cream and it was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be.

Great food, rude front desk lady. This place only accepts cash or travelers checks. Ok that's fine, did not see sign due to lots of people when we walked in. My wife stayed back when I walked next door to hotel to grab cash and bring it back to pay. Elderly woman told off my wife calling us essentially stupid for not seeing sign. Again good food, rude front cashier.

This place is amazing. My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast on Memorial Day, so it was pretty packed. They still say us with relatively no wait. All of the people who work there are super sweet and always take care of you. The food was delicious. It's all simple, basic breakfast fare like eggs, bacon, French toast, and pancakes. It's a no frills breakfast joint a block from the beach. You can't hate on that. Overall, this place was fantastic. We already have plans to go back.
(5)Kem W.
I've been going here for years for ice cream. It's a typical old-fashioned ice cream parlor where you can get chocolate malts, hot fudge sundaes, and great ice cream. There's always a line at night but it's usually open in the mid-afternoon. The cones are big and the other ice cream offerings are sublime. I've also been here for breakfast. It's OK but I'm not a big breakfast fan.

I read many of the reviews for Royal Treat and convinced my entire party (four adults and three kids) to endure the morning line to enjoy breakfast at Royal Treat. I love breakfast and was VERY excited to eat here. I cannot say how disappointed I was with both the service and the food. We were treated brusquely from the outset and the food we ordered was passable at best. I ordered the french toast which were nothing more than what I could prepare at home - assuming I had a can of sugar to dump atop it. My wife's order was left barely eaten. One would think that with such a limited menu (we were told they only have buttermilk pancakes for example) the options would be stellar. They dropped the check seemingly alongside the food and they hovered around the table to clean it while we finished eating. I was looking for something to hang my hat on - maybe it's the ice cream which we didn't have in the morning - but between bad service and unappetizing food I don't understand the hype.I would consider going back for ice cream but wouldn't do so for breakfast.

Some of my earliest childhood memories of the beach are sitting in a high-chair at the counter at Royal Treat, watching my clown sundae being made. Decades later, walking into this place feels like stepping back in time. The decor is nearly unchanged and charmingly old fashioned, but the entire place is immaculate and sparkling-clean. If you get french toast for breakfast, definitely go for the italian style! They manage to keep these huge, thick slices of bread light and pillowy even after being coated in cinnamon, powdered sugar, syrup, and a hearty dollop of whipped butter. And there's no better way to wrap up a night on the boardwalk then coming back to this place at night for ice cream. The staff is friendly, and scoops the ice cream with a much-welcome heavy hand: even the "kid-sized" portions are huge.
(5)Hope B.
Get the french toast on italian bread! The best french toast I've ever had. The wait can be long especially in the peak season, but it is well worth it. Not only is the food over the top good, but the atmosphere is so charming. There's a large front porch to eat in and staff who seem to mostly be friends and family of the owners.
(5)Quinton B.
Not sure about breakfast, but I ALWAYS make a point to stop for ice cream. It is probably the best ice cream I've ever had. The toppings are always great, fresh whipped cream, and delicious ice cream. Worth a stop while you are in town (or within a 30 mile radius).

Awesome! Brought my daughter and she is in heaven!

I can barely type this review because I am so stuffed from my hot fudge sundae. Just know that this historic ice cream parlor has wonderful desserts and is truly a royal treat. Its a great place for the family after a long day at the beach.
(5)Amanda D.
This place really knows how to move a line. They work incredibly efficiently. I think some other businesses should take note from this place.... I didn't even really bother to read the menu, I scoped out what other people were having and decided they knew what they were doing. Sundae it was! And oh...what a sundae. Moosetracks and Whitehouse Cherry with dark chocolate hot fudge and strawberry sauce topped with whipped cream and a cherry?!?!?! AHHH!!! This split between my boyfriend and I took less than 1 minute to consume. Phenomenal. I'd suggest walking here or biking, because driving and finding a parking spot may take longer and cost you more money than ordering and consuming whatever delicious frozen treat you purchase.
(5)Ron M.
Ice cream is a mandatory thing at the beach and this is a cute, old-fashioned ice cream parlour with a good flavor selection and lots of sauces. It's a close competion between the Kohr's frozen custard, but there's no where to sit there so Royal Treat is better for a group. There's a Coldstone and a 31 Flavors in Rehoboth but I say go to the local, non-chain places when you come, as Coldstone and 31 Flavors are available all over the place and old-fashioned ice cream parlors are, unfortunately, a disappearing breed. My usual choice: Peppermint ice cream or coffee ice cream with dark chocolate sauce (how cool is it that there's a choice of dark or milk chocolate sauce!?)

Breakfast was good. It was fairly busy - but not crazy, since it was early June. We got seated right away on the quaint little screened in porch. I ordered an omelett w/ ham, sausage, green peppers and cheese (mozzarella - it's not specified on the menu, but you should probably ask if you have a preference). The size is easily good for 2 people to share. They won't put potatoes in your omelette, but you can get skillet hash browns on the side. Those are good because they slice them really thin (w/ a mandolin, I guess?) 2 people in our party of 5 each ordered a serving of pancakes. You get 3 huge 8-9" pancakes. Again, the size is not specified, so you should ask the server if you don't wanna lug around leftovers like we did. My son's girlfriend ordered chocolate milk and since this place doubles as an Ice Cream parlor, they mixed it by hand and served it to her in a beautiful, fancy parlor style glass. Very cute! Everyone was nice. Bathrooms were clean. VERY IMPORTANT --- They only accept CASH and TRAVELER'S CHECKS! So make sure you stop by the ATM before heading over! And don't let the front of the building fool you; they have ample seating in the back (it's a narrow structure.) And now after reading all the other posts, I wanna go back for ice cream! :)
(4)E M.
I like a breakfast place if they are prompt with refilling my bottomless cup of coffee. Thus, I liked this place. There are no frills to their menu. Their dishes are typical diner fare at diner prices. Significant bonus was its awesome screened-in porch right off the boardwalk. FYI-- they only take cash.
(3)Matthew C.
Absolutely fantastic ice cream. Don't be scared off by the line out front, it moves quickly. We loved it so much we went back the next night rather than trying out another ice cream spot.
(5)Rachel O.
If you ask the beach goers what the must eat places are in Rehoboth, this will surely top the list. The line is always out the door (but moves quickly) and you will find people who have been coming year after year from places so far you wouldn't believe. I met a woman who drove 14 hours from Indianapolis. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but initially I wasn't so impressed. We first came for breakfast and the hostess was abrupt, rude, and couldn't be bothered. The servers were nice enough, but other than taking your order and delivering the check, they were MIA. As for the menu, if you love meat, you'll be fine. This place boasts of being a breakfast and ice cream place, but the choices for breakfast were not so impressive. I ended up with an english muffin, an egg, and some hash browns. Now to their credit, they did burn the crap out of my hash browns (as requested), but otherwise the breakfast was a major disappointment. Now I did say I was initially unimpressed which means I did give it a second shot for some dessert. The line was twice as line as the breakfast line (but still moved pretty fast). Thankfully, there was no hostess and you just ordered from the counter as soon as you made it through the line. They serve Hershey ice cream in ginormous proportions. I had a single scoop of ice cream that seemed more like 3 normal scoops. Looking around, everyone was indulging in sundaes, banana splits and all that jazz. The only down part of dessert was that there were so many more people than breakfast, but they closed off half of the seating. I guess it is good that the beach goers eat fast.
