Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This restaurant doesn't have an off the hook vibe, but what it DOES have is good food. The salsa and guacamole are amazing with the freshly made chips. The chicken quesadilla was moist and flavorful and the Milanesa dinner was very tasty and was big enough enough for leftovers. Staff was very nice and attentive. Would go back again!

Five more stars for Modern Mixture! All three of us had the southwestern chopped salad today - grilled chicken with a great salsa, mixed greens, cheese, and a tasty chipotle barbecue dressing, with a little crunch from some chopped-in nacho chips - and all three of us loved it. It's been a year since my last visit, and I was very happy to see that the restaurant has been renovated, now sporting booths and a small bar area, giving the restaurant a much more cozy feeling. This one's a slam-dunk, a great place for lunch that should always be on your list when visiting Rehoboth.

Came in to find the place a little empty, but the food and drinks were amazing. A vegetarian friend and I split excellent guacamole with freshly made tortilla chips. She got the veggie burrito, which she raved about and the fish tacos (which I got) where also excellent. A big slab of fresh fish on each taco, with a tangy cabbage slaw and sauce. Their house margaritas are both well-made and strong, which for $5 a piece during their very long happy hour (11 am to 7 pm) can't be beat! P.S. Their flan cheesecake is one of the best things I have ever eaten.
(5)Erin R.
I second that these are the best margaritas you will find in Reho. They are some of the best margaritas I've had period. My husband stuck with the house while I tried oaxaca and jalapeno. The jalapeno was truly excellent, smooth and spicy with a very hot pepper rim. For food, we of course noshed on the chips and pico - for mains I ordered the Tacos de Tierra Y Mar, which after the amazing start were a huge disappointment. The amount of meat was generous but the tacos were just flavorless. Husbands Alambre de Mexicano (sp I'm going off memory) was far more flavorful and came with a side of rice (meh) and beans (yum). I'd come back again for the drinks and would try another dish, to give it a second chance before this becomes a drinks only establishment in my book.

I'm reviewing based only on the fact that we wanted to go here for dinner last night. it was 8 pm. sign says they're open till 9. door is open. we walk in and they tell us they're closed. Ok, but then why is your door open and sign saying otherwise?? what crap!
(1)Michelle T.
This place is hidden behind an orange awning in what appears to have once been an alley, the margaritas are top notch, just booze & fresh lime. The food is inventive, fresh & plentiful!
(5)Kat S.
We came in based on the other reviews. The restaurant was a bit dark, but the warmth of the staff brightened it up. We ordered the chicken tortillas soup, which we we told is the owner's mom's recipe, which was delicious! Generous portions and kind staff. If you want to sit down have some good and authentic food, great service, please take your time to come here. Enjoy.
(5)Mike C.
We came here in a whim and at first I was nervous about it. We walked in, and it was pretty empty so sometimes that's a bad sign. We ordered our food, a beef burrito and a chicken quesadilla. The "Fall Salad" came with the burrito and it was amazing. The chips and salsa were very tasty as well, the chips have a seasoning on them that's somewhat sour at first but then with the salsa it comes together. Saving the best for last, the Flan cheesecake. Blew my mind. Highly recommend to anyone, especially the drinks. The house margarita is made from fresh lime juice which creates a different flavor. I thought dos locos had the best, now I believe Modern Mixture does.
(5)Tim B.
Have you ever had one of those experiences where, when the food arrives, it so greatly exceeds your expectations that you're rendered speechless for a moment? We just had one of those at Modern Mixture! The Red Snapper...order it!
(5)Melissa M.
The margaritas are amazing and fresh! The service is great and the food wonderful! I'm so glad that we discovered this place.
(5)Mike A.
We were looking for something different and we found it. This quaint place hidden right off the Rehoboth Boardwalk is the place to be, if you are looking for non corporate menu and locally owned restaurant that works with local artists by displaying and selling their art work on the walls. The food was on point as were the margaritas. The staff is friendly and prompt. If your ever around this area give it a try.
(5)Cheryl S.
Delicious meal. Tacos, salads and of course margaritas and sangria. Highly recommended. Little spot and not fancy but delicious! Everyone loved their meals.
(5)Joanne L.
A mixed bag. Some margaritas good. Some ok. Guacamole good. Fried plantains not so much. Atmosphere lackluster.
(3)Timothy M.
Fantastic. Potato cakes. Tortilla soup and falafel all delicious. Chips and salsa also tasty. Cute little restaurant on the strip. The fries with chi I Cheri were fresh and wonderful too. Maybe cook the fries a bit more
(5)Bob T.
Friendly staff, cool small place and that's all I can say nice about the place :( Family was pumped when we saw a 4.5 star place to grab lunch. Most of us ordered torta and others burritos. The burritos were below average, they had minimal meat and full leaves of lettuce...full leaf of lettuce in a hot burrito is a bad choice. For me personally I had the flank steak torta and the 'meat' in it was a few small pieces of burnt meat objects, it was not good. Also had warm leaf of wilted lettuce as well. Not often are we dissapointed with yelp reviews, but unfortunately this was one of them that I do not agree with the majority on this place.
(2)Megan B.
I had the middle eastern chopped salad with falafel and it was delicious!! The people that worked there were super nice too, the fresh salsa and chips (which were still warm) were super yummy too. Food and service here were both wonderful!
(5)Jim R.
What a cool hidden gem in Rehoboth. Te menu was Mexican/Latin and Middle Eastern. Had the Rhino Burrito with lamb and the Mahi Salad. Both were really flavorful. The owners/servers were beyond friendly and the service was great. The fresh salsa and chips were served right after sitting and the flan cheesecake for dessert was the perfect finish.
(5)Renee T.
Great place for lunch! The salads were excellent and the Falafel was the best we've ever had (and we've had a lot of it)! I had a Red Sangria with lunch and it was very tasty and strong. Just the way I like Sangria. The rest of my family loved their meals as well. Skip the places on the boardwalk and walk a block or two to this restaurant, totally worth it.
(4)Liz L.
Friendly, fresh & delicious! The only problem is we didn't try this place sooner! Love the margaritas and delicious vegetarian options. Modern mixture is sure to become one of our regular stops at the beach!
(5)Don V.
We stopped in on Cinco De Mayo for a drink. It was a great lil place! The servers were friendly and the brought out incredibly fresh salsa and chips! It would appear they are just getting started...but great place. I can't wait to go back to check em out again! I had a few cocktails and the bf had a piña colada which was very good!
(4)Cathy B.
Pretty good but the seating situation was not the most comfortable but otherwise it was fine.
(4)Geoff S.
Stopped in here for lunch. Had the veggie burrito and shrimp tacos Truly fantastic
(5)Mike S.
We love this place. They always have fresh, healthy options for good prices. I love their salads and their $5 freshly squeezed margaritas are some of the best I've had. Their menu is a great mixture of Mexican and Mediterranian food. This is the perfect place to stop after taking a bike ride or coming in after enjoying the beach.
(5)Shannon M.
Don't know how this place is still such a local's secret. The food here is SO fresh and always DELICIOUS. The free pico and chips you get with dinner - OMG!
(5)Dan L.
Just had lunch here with 8 of us with kids. Everyone loved it. It's a welcome change of pace from pizza and burgers. It's real Mexican, not tex-mex and that's from my wife who is from Arizona and is a bit of a Mexican food snob. It started with excellent homemade guacamole and homemade chips. The kids all had really good quesadillas. They have potato and bacon in them, perfectly cooked. The Veggie burrito with quinoa and lettuce was really big but not too heavy. Friends gave thumbs up to the fish tacos and Southwest chopped salad too and the sangria. And super clean bathrooms to boot.
(5)Megan F.
I've been coming here since they opened for the Falafels. Sadly, they recently changed the recipe and the sauce. :( It is a nice stop for their salads since not many restaurants serve healthy food in the downtown rehoboth area. The margaritas are good.
(3)Dawn C.
Amazing!!!! Tried to eat here last year and it was closed! This year so glad it was open! Food was amazing. We shared chips and guacamole. The chips were warm and delicious. Then I had the Super Gyro with a side salad. It was super delicious with the biggest tastiest salad ever! So happy and I can't believe there wasn't even a wait! Best kept secret in Rehoboth!
(5)Jennifer H.
We picked this restaurant based on the excellent Yelp reviews; however, it was horrible from the moment we walked in. It's small, but it still took a while for the staff to figure out where to seat us and even then, the table wasn't set and we had to ask for utensils. It took over 10 minutes for them to even bring us the menu, so water and chips/salsa were an even longer wait. When we finally were able to order food, the food tasted like leftovers, definitely not fresh. Our waiter meant well, and it was his fourth day, but it was still disappointing that we didn't get everything we ordered, had to ask multiple times for water refills, and the restaurant was out of a lot of stuff (notably, water glasses). And it was overpriced.
(1)Kelly G.
The food here was pretty good. My biggest reason for giving 3 stars was a problem with the service. We ordered chips guac and salsas. Salsas was plural so we assumed that we would get a variety for the chips but instead the waitress just brought out more of the complementary salsa. My boyfriend had to ask for the special salsas and the waitress then brought it out but by then we all had our dinner entrees and we're starting to fill up. It may have just been a communication problem but still we were a little annoyed.
(3)Christopher S.
Wow, I just cannot say enough about this place. I was initially referred here by the owner if the Running Store downtown. I NEVER would have found this place on my own especially since I tend to stay away from "touristy" spots on the Avenue. This is NOT a. Place to be missed. I've eaten here a number of times. The margaritas are terrific and never had a bad meal! Cuban Torta, Coconut French Toast, Supreme Gyro, Fish Tacos... All awesome!!
(5)J G.
Having been born and raised in Los Angeles, with Mexican food at home and some of the best Mexican food restaurants around town, my review here should be worth something. Mexican food in the mid Atlantic region is both nearly non-existent and hardly worth the cost (no matter the cost). Modern Mixture is one of two places (the other is Fiesta Mexicana in Rosedale, MD - I drive more than 40 minutes to get there) in the region worthy of the title Mexican Food Restaurant. We tried the sopes, the empanadas, and the nachos. EVERYTHING was GREAT, even on down to their homemade chips. If ever I'm back at Rehoboth, this is one place I'd visit multiple times. So, so worth it.
(5)Dana H.
Food was wonderfully prepared and was delicious. Our waiter was great - very friendly and very efficient.
(4)Brooks A.
Plantain soup was very good. Tacos were sad and overpriced. Burrito was average. Would go again for the soup only. Large portion and very flavorful.
(2)Holly W.
My vegetarian husband and I decided to give this place a try because they have plenty of options for vegetarians. We loved the place! The staff is super friendly, service was fast (we went during the off season, though, so there wasn't a crowd), and the food was outstanding. This might be my favorite restaurant in Delaware. We each got a frozen drink - he got the mango margarita and I got the red sangria. Large portions and delicious. Just the right amount of alcohol to make you feel happy. For appetizers, we got the falafel ("crunchy garbanzo bean mixture with parsley, cilantro, garlic and yummy spices, then fried golden brown") and mojito fries. I liked the falafel, with its mayo/cucumber dip. I'd never heard of mojito fries, and they aren't listed on the online menu, so here's my explanation: a basket of steak fries (on the thin side, which is not a complaint, but a description) covered in a green sauce that tastes like it probably has in it lime, vinegar, garlic, and other things I couldn't pick out. (Upon further reflection, this may have been a type of chimichurri sauce. I've never had chimichurri sauce before, which is why I didn't recognize it.) The sauce had lots of flavor and we liked the fries. I don't even know what my husband ordered as an entree, because I was too focused on mine. I ordered the Rehoboth Beach Taco Combo: "1 Fish, 1 Shrimp, 1 Calamari Taco. Served with a Fall side salad." These tacos were outstanding. I saw an earlier review that noted the fish taco did not have a lot of fish... I'd agree with that, but I thought what was there was sufficient. The tacos are filled with this red cabbage slaw that I could eat all by itself - it was fresh and seasoned perfectly. The tacos also had a a spicy chili sauce that had a good kick, but was not too powerful for me (I don't like hot sauce). The fall salad was a dark green of some sort, blue cheese, walnuts, apple bits, and a oil-based dressing. Fresh and tasty. Generous portion. Whatever the spouse got, he liked it. It was a combo plate of vegetarian dishes. Sorry I can't offer more on that. The slaw on the tacos distracted me from all other things. The decor is bright and festive. Lots of local artwork on the walls, for sale. Bathroom was very clean and spacious. Please go here and support a small, local restaurant!
(5)Graham T.
Nice small place with limited seating but a cool vibe. It was a Friday night but not packed. People were nice, but moved somewhat slowly. We ordered a torta - good size but lacked enough chicken. Flavors were solid though. The specialty drinks are a neat feature of MM. We had two green mixups and they both had terrific taste. Chips and salsa bar is good - but they never served us more chips so going back to try the other salsas was out. We would go back...maybe...
(3)Tam M.
Had a very good meal - generous portions! We had the chicken tortilla soup. More like c stew - maybe broth absorbed by tortilla that lined the bowl - not served as usually found with crispy shredded pieces on top. Puerto Rican Soup with chicken & plantain. Yum. Both were full of ingredients and large bowl. Cuban Torta was delicious and served with the Fall salad which was really good - sweetness to it - has pecans, dried cranberries & blue cheese. Falafel appetizer was okay - not the best I've had. Will be back!
(4)Roberto N.
Great friendly staff! The Simply Burritos are great- the Cobb salad good, a little bland, but still worth ordering. Shrimp tacos very good- sweet. Enjoy!!!!
(4)Gia H.
Super good food!! Found on a whim looking for brunch and not disappointed!! Excellent portions and fresh flavors. An unexpected find don't be afraid to try you won't be disappointed! Jenny was excellent great service too ;)
(5)Cathleen K.
We were looking for a place that was inexpensive and served booze. Modern Mixture seemed to fill the need, and I'm glad we tried it. The food was great! My margarita was a bit strong but the waitress fixed it for me. Another plus was the fact that we walked in 20min before closing but were waited on pleasantly. The food was tasty, portions were adequate and they heaped on veggies. I would definitely return. Even my 9 year old son forgave them the fact that veggies were piled on his flautas. (For the record I enjoyed the flautas, veggies and all) A few things to note. First, yelp did not guide us to the right place. The GPS took us half a block further than it should have. Second, the $ rating is a little misleading. Some items were $10 and under (appetizers) but I'd say more were between $10-$20 (entrees, salads). I feel they were more on par with a $$ rating for price. That being said, I'd rate them higher than many other $$ restaurants. Check out this unique restaurant!
(5)Dominick S.
I had high expectations after reading so many positive reviews. To be honest, I believe this place is over hyped. My wife really liked the chopped salad with falafal but that was about it. My Mixto burrito was a bit soggy for my liking. The chips were bland and the table salsa was gtrocery store quality. My son had the shrimp tacos which were breaded and nothing special. The owner is really nice so I will probably give it another try.
(3)Elaine M.
In Rehoboth Beach in the off season, not much is open, but thankfully, one of those places is Modern Mixture. On Wed we had the cobb salad and Mediterranean salad. On Thurs it was cold and rainy so we went for the chicken tortilla soup and bean soup. Really tasty food, super service, very reasonable prices, and a clean, fresh atmosphere. Their guacamole has cilantro! I recommend MM to everyone.
(5)Adam W.
I have to say I'm surprised by the 4.5 star reviews. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. The chopped Cobb was pretty good. The falafel salad we ordered was decent. The falafels were okay tasting but they were way to dense, almost undercooked. The gyro was not very good and the tzatziki sauce was absolutely gross. It was a vanilla sweet yogurt. Again, there may be better dishes but I don't think we will be trying them.
(3)Anna K.
I am a sucker for good customer service and the guys running this place know all about that. They are sooo nice and accommodating and you can see that they work their butt off as they move around the kitchen at 100 miles per hour. I came here during lunch time for pick up and hung around drinking a watermelon margarita while I waited for the food. It was done very quickly and it was delicious. If you're looking to dine in, know that the place is fairy small and no frills. However, their food is outstanding.
(5)Michelle Z.
just ate at modern mixture with my husband while here in rehoboth for our annual week vacation. all i can say is YUMMO!! we both decided to try the tortas - a very nice sandwich on homemade mexican bread/roll. mine was a fusion of mexican and lebanese. my husbands was turkey with bacon, avacado, tomato n more! both served with this fantastic "fall salad" that was DELICIOUS, n like a B-12 shot too. and the most delish marguerita - u could taste the fresh fresh lime juice. didnt have room for dessert but may stop by there again this week to try something sweet. dont just walk by this little gem, stop in n try their great fusion cuisine - mex/middle east/healthy!!! they also have a very unique drink menu!! and very reasonable prices too!
(5)Brittany B.
Such fresh affordable food!! Service was speedy & food was perfection! Highly recommend.
(5)SA F.
Superb service. Really good food. Excellent prices. We came in at 8 pm & they close @ 8. No problem. We were seated & waited on immediately. They wanted our business. They were happy to stay open late and accommodate us. You just don't see that anymore. Really quality place. Will definitely be back.
(5)Robb M.
Excellent vegetarian foods ... Awesome burritos and salads ;-) Fresh Flavorful Food
(5)ken k.
From the San Francisco Bay Area and we are food snobs. Modern Mixture was very tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced. I would put this restaurant up against any organic restaurant of its type to any in San Francisco. The owner and workers were very friendly. You could tell they were considerate with their service. Started off with the guacamole and chips which was a good serving for a small. I had the Milanese torta. It was tasty and spicy. It had the right blend of spices and jalapeños. My wife had a salad with quinoa and it was very fresh and flavorful. The entire dinner had a ton of TLC that went into it. We would come back here for a meal again!
(5)Jennifer M.
The food here is always good and the service and atmosphere make you a repeat customer.
(4)Paul M.
Wow! That's all I got. Just go, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Robin C.
The fish tacos were really good. The service was great! My son loved his kids bean and cheese burrito. But my mom thought that there should be more meat on her Steak Milanese sandwich. The meat to bread ratio was off. Overall I liked this place and would go back to try something else. It's a cute hole in the wall little stop.
(3)A. K.
It's my second time here. Very friendly service both times. Food is excellent, especially the "Moderno Burrito." Was excited about the Tres Leches Cake, but was sold out for the weekend. Still, great food and service.
(4)Alexis B.
This place is a-okay. When my fiancé and I were seated we waited 10-15 mins & then were asked "are you ready to order?" Ha! We didn't even get menu's yet. The food was good but the ultimate green smoothie was great. At the end after we paid we received the wrong credit card back (of course we told them).
(4)P I.
Casual and Inventive and Close to the Beach Definitely now on my list of favorite RB restaurants for any meal. Since the owner/chef is usually there, he will customize things for you so the breakfast choices are broader than the menu suggests. It is also vegan and vegetarian-friendly for that reason. Love the house salad with the cactus and light citrusy flavor. Ask about specials. We have learned to share a couple of dishes so we can sample more variety, and have still had left-overs for later. The owners provide a comfortable, friendly space and an attention to quality that is a surprise in this beach-block location.
(5)Danielle H.
After reading all of the other reviews on Yelp my fiancé and I figured we had to check out this spot. The sope app was pretty good and got us excited about our meals but we were underwhelmed by the burritos. Definitely nothing special. I am not sure why all of these reviews are so high but there are so many delicious spots in Rehoboth - I'd keep looking before stopping here....
(2)J M.
Food was tasty. Place is small with limited seating so keep that in mind if you have a larger party. Smoothies looked really good.
(4)John M.
Try the best margarita in Rehoboth. I was shocked how good they were. Nice friendly people and great food. I love the chopped salads and wraps.
(5)Michael P.
This place is amazing! The burritos were fresh and tasty and give Chipotle a run for their money. Great place and great staff - would recommend them to anyone!
(5)Julekha D.
Just had lunch here. The crepe place is closed now so I was looking for a quick, casual place for lunch. I ordered a salad with chicken. It was unbelievably good! Better than Chipotle for sure. Fresh vegetables and herbs and the guy making it was as nice as could be. Want to go back and try the veggie burrito.
(5)Ali B.
I've been here a few times now and was very satisfied each time. Leo, the owner, is the nicest guy...can't say enough about his friendly service. I've had the fish tacos, the mexican sandwich and the guac. All were very tasty in their own right, but combined with the good prizes make it all even better!
(5)Delaware F.
Fine if simple breakfast burrito with chorizo. Surprisingly quiet on a Sunday at noon.
(4)Amy L.
Hidden gem! Keep your eyes peeled, we walked right by. We weren't sure if they served booze, but they do! We drank the amazing lavender margaritas. Apparently the lavender takes away the sour bite- perfect! For an appetizer, two of us split the sope. Authentic and delicious. I asked my date permission to lick the plate. He ate the fish tacos and I ate the burrito moderno. Holy shinoli! So bomb! I'm not born and raised in Mexico City or anything special, but of all the Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten at, this is HANDS DOWN the best. Normally after eating dinner I wouldn't ask for desert, but a table nearby talked us into getting the tres leches, and we were so glad we did! It was the most adorable little cake and it tasted divine. And don't let me get started on the coffee. You're talkin to a TOTAL coffee snob here, very few places in the world have coffee that I absolutely love- and the places I do love are specialized coffee roasters where you have to wait in line and they serve actual coffee, not some sugared up non fat whatever in a cup. Get a cafe con leche and your tounge will say yaaaaaay! We are so glad to have found this spot. Highly recommended and we will absolutely be back!!!
(5)Paul L.
As my son said, the torta de milanese was perhaps the best sandwich he ever had. Talk about bang for your buck.
(5)Andrew M.
For what it is, an inexpensive hole in the wall, this place is good enough; however, we have found it inconsistent and far from gourmet. The fish tacos, though flavorful were quite soggy and the quinoa salad was sent to us without any quinoa. If you are on a not much more than fast food budget, the food is real and decent; in Rehoboth, there is better to be had elsewhere albeit for a bit more money.

My boyfriend and I had an unforgettable experience at Modern Mixture during our stay at Rehoboth beach. We got to the restaurant around 6:00 pm, and except for maybe one other couple, we were the only people in the restaurant. The only workers were the manager and a chef, and they were in the open kitchen making food at the speed of light. The manager told us that he would be with us in a moment, but after a few minutes we realized he was way too busy, and I swiped some menus from the counter. No problem. We also decided to get a modmix margarita which was delicious! The manager took our entree order (I ordered the shrimp tacos and my boyfriend ordered a burrito). I went to the bathroom which was very very clean, although in the corner there was a shrine for a little puppy (strange but very cute). We were sitting and waiting for our food when a table of six came in. The restaurant itself only seats maybe 25 at most? So a table of 6 doubled the customers in the restaurant. You could see the managers face turn to mild panic as they came in, and with only two workers in the whole restaurant, the manager was now part hostess/bartender/waiter/busboy/took takeout/dishwasher. The other chef never took his eyes off the grill. After the restaurant was about half-full, the manager went and locked the door to prevent more people from coming into the restaurant (it was 6:40, nowhere near the closing time of the restaurant). He started doing two or three things in a row. Our food had not arrived yet, but with each glistening bead of sweat down the managers cheek, my boyfriend and I knew that he was just really really busy. Eventually another worker showed up, but it was still not enough for the demand from the takeout and the sitting customers (random people coming in and asking for a smoothie did not help either). Customers usually get irritated or angry at this behavior, but from the managers run/walk down the aisle, we all knew he was doing his best, and that this was just a fluke. The table of 6 even became an impromptu hostess, and when outside people came to the door to try to open it, the table sent them away because the place was so goddamn busy. Finally our food came, and the mango-coleslaw in the tacos tasted really fresh and sweet. I recommend this dish! the salsa and chips were really good too, and the salsa is placed at an all you can eat salsa/salsa verde bar. The manager took the margarita off our check, as well as a few dollars off our overall meal. I bussed our own table, and in general it was fun experience complete with customer participation. Great work everyone.
(5)Mike A.
I wound up eating here twice during my 2 day stay because the food was so good. Everything we had was incredible. The lavender margarita was really good as well. The next time I go back to Rehoboth i'll definitely be visiting this place again.
(5)Diana W.
Awesome food, friendly staff, great prices, fast service. That's all you need to know, but i'll write more anyways. I am a ex-Rehoboth resident, frequent beach visitor. I have eaten at every better restaurant in Lewes and Rehoboth(not a grottos or Nicola's diner) and this may be my favorite restaurant in Rehoboth. The food quality and style combined with the low prices and quantity make it hands down the best bargain at the beach. I love aMuse, chef Hari is a genius, but whereas I eat there 2x a season, I ate at Modern Mixture 2 x in a day. We went in on a recommendation. I got the chopped salad with falafel, my partner got the torta milanesa. Off the hook. Both. He said it was the best torta he's had since Mexico. It also filled him, which never happens. My salad was fresh, interesting and satisfying. Our icy waters were filled without waiting. In glass. I hate water in plastic cups. Our food was served on real plates, with real silverware. The decor is fun and bright, but not amazing; the food and service are the stars here. Later that same day we dragged friends off the beach to go to dinner for them, dessert for us. We wanted the flan cheesecake we had been too full to eat before. AMAZING!!! Flan flavor, cheesecake consistency. Caramel topping, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream points. Washed down with a peach lassi which was delicious, cold, refreshing, creamy, with a hint of tart from the yogurt. Our 1 friend got the quesadilla with potatoes and bacon. The guacamole that came with it was whipped avocado lime mousse fantasy delight. His quesadilla was awesome. Friend 2 got a lavender margarita. Yum. And a torta cubana, which he said was great, then I had him put some of his partner's guacamole on it and it elevated to awesome. He had a second, regular margarita. The only place I've had better margaritas at the beach is Agave in Lewes. All in all, an amazing experience. Lots of veg options, gluten free options. Mexican, middle eastern fusion cuisine. Whodathunkit?

Food was great! Fresh food.

the hot chocolate....try it now! wow!

Don't let the entrance distract you from entering a wonderful eatery for sandwiches and chopped salads - Modern Mixture. This space has housed many businesses in the past few years and Modern Mixture seems to have the right approach to be successful. The Mexican/Cuban menu is limited but all of the ingredients are of top quality. Their Signature sandwich is the CUBAN... and simply delicious and can be served with waffle fries or onion rings. The guacomole and chips are some of the best this City has to offer. They also make their own potato chips fresh! There is a side SALSA bar to dress your sandwiches, burritos, etc. I have had the Cuban sandwich three times and it seems to get better with each visit...recently I decided to add jalepenos to it for an added kick! My partner has enjoyed several of their "chopped salads" since he is a vegetarian and has raved about the portion size and quality of the ingredients. ALL IN ALL - Modern Mixture is quality food at a reasonable price. It is well worth stopping by to check them out. Note: Modern Mixture is not a large place and is constrained by city code on seating.

The burritos were fantastic. The Rhone was perfect, with the lamb and bleu cheese. The food also came out really fast, and the prices were very reasonable.

We yelped and decided to try this place for Mexican as it had high ratings. I got the Rehoboth Beach Salad with Guac and my hubs got the Rehoboth platter (1 fish, 1 calamari and 1 shrimp taco) Our waitress was very nice. The service was great, friendly and quick but the food was just sub par. The fish in the fish tacos were 2 small fish sticks (like the kind I ate as a kid) and my salad oddly enough did not have a lot of lettuce in it. Maybe we got the wrong things, but I was not entirely impressed with this place.

Modern Mixture is regular stop, when we are in town. This is a 5 Star place for made from scratch, casual dining. All the food is made with love. The owner has a great way of layering the flavors. The service is very friendly & welcoming. Amy is one of our fav Servers. She always makes you feel right at home. Their food is a mixture of Mexican, American & Middle Eastern. They have amazing Margarita 's too. They are the real deal. no sweet, mixer drinks. And the food is fresh, not pre made chain food. Some of our fav dishes are the Fish Taco's, Sunny-side Up Salad, Torta's, Chilaquiles, Fresh cut Fries, & Huevos Rancheros. Our girls love their Black Bean Burritos too. Go check out their new layout. Gotta finish this review, I'm heading there now!

Totally amazing food!! You can really tell they spend time prepping. We had the torta Cubana (amazing) and the torta libinease. Again amazing flavor. I highly recommend eating here. We will be back!!!

After a weekend of drinking and sugary treats my body was craving a green smoothie. We found this gem as we were headed back to the car after a walk in the boardwalk. The freshness and deliciousness of my Green Powerhouse smoothie makes me wish I were staying around to have dinner at the beach so that I could try something more substantial from their menu.

Went today for lunch. The salads were really good, and a number of people came in to order smoothies to go, so I assume those are good, too. Chips came to the table hot. But only one server for the whole restaurant at lunch probably wasn't enough.

We won a gift certificate to this place so we thought we would give it a try. We really liked the food. Very fresh and flavorful. We had the flautas and a gyro. Perfect lunch size. I tried the frozen sangria and it was great. We will definitely be back. My two suggestions are make the outside look a little more Mexican and crank up the music inside. It was a little to quiet. We came after lunch so we were the only ones there. We'll be back for sure!!!!

Always excellent food and the authentic menu keeps on expanding. Friends love hanging out with the pitchers of margaritas !

Our 1st time here, definitely won't be our last! The restaurant is small but inviting. With all the choices in the area don't pass this place over! The staff was warm and welcoming from the moment we opened the door. We stared with the most amazing margaritas made with fresh basil! I never would have thought of basil in a margarita but now I want every margarita that way! Next we had the mojito fries which were addictive! The flavors were perfect together creating an interesting combination that I couldn't get enough of. Next was the Torta Libanesa, a sandwich with falafels, yogurt dipping sauce, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, white cheddar cheese, quinoa and guacamole. An amazing mix that made this vegetarian extremely happy! The side salad was tasty as well, with green apple and dried cranberries, so yummy! We ended with the Tres Leches: Strawberry Filled, hone made of course. They let us taste a bite while eating our meal so we would be sure the save room and the woman who makes it came out to see our reaction. She was so cute and watched in anticipation as we sampled her tasty creation. It was the most sinful thing I have tasted in a long time. I don't usually eat dessert and stay away from sugar but there was no way to pass this up! We ended up not saving enough room because everything else was so delicious so we took the dessert to go! Everyone there wants to make sure you are enjoying your meal. They genuinely care about their offerings and you can taste the passion they have for unique food combinations. Mission accomplished Modern Mixture, keep up the great work, we will be back soon!

Yummy food and good prices. I liked their take on a quesadilla with potatoes and bacon. Good guac but on the spicy side. The fish tacos are a bit skimpy compared to the huge quesadilla. Quick service and nice people working there.

So David G. said "the best place to eat in Rehoboth Beach by far"...seriously? I thought it was totally mediocre. For starters, the intro (chips and salsa) was disappointing as the tortilla chips were awful -- thick, hard and tasteless. We got a Burrito Chido: light on the pork and heavy on the refried bean content. Also very poorly folded as I had to eat it with a fork and knife since it fell apart when picked up. Also had a vegetarian burrito - not fresh to order...they make a batch of veggies in the morning then slap it together and heat it up. So no, you can't have that without mushrooms. Not sure if they actually use frozen vegetables for it or if it just tastes that way since they had been sitting around all day. The staff was all super friendly and nice so I feel bad being such a downer on them. But if Modern Mixture is the best place to eat in the whole town I feel bad for the people that live there.
(2)Leslie C.
Good mexican spot in rehoboth! Service was great. Burritos were smaller than anticipated but the ingredients were above expectations. Squash and quinoa in a vegetarian burrito? Sign me up. Guac was also excellent. And burritos came with chips. Will go back!
(4)Lesline B.
Great food! Best burrito I ever tasted. The guacamole was absolutely delicious. Small, cozy and very clean restaurant
(5)Tomas R.
Great frozen margaritas! My girlfriend said their falafels were the best she ever had :)

How does this place get such great reviews? I'm a firm believer not to go out to eat for something you could cook just as good at home. We decided to eat here once scanning yelp reviews. All current reviews were showing us that this place was top notch for burritos. We were seated and ordered drinks. The waitress misunderstood us and brought us two lavender margaritas instead of one. They were very bitter and not very refreshing. We ordered our food and sat looking at each other. I had assumed they would bring out chips for us since I noticed all other patrons munching on them without meals. When we were served our meals the chips were brought with no salsa. I had to flag down the waitress to ask her for salsa, she then told me it was located in the back in a buffet style display. The options where pico de gallo which is very mild and bland, to a verde sauce which agains didn't have much kick or flavor to it, a chipotle sauce which was very smoky if you enjoy a sauce with a depth of flavor and a hot sauce which I did not try. Both my fiance and I ate our meals and it was at best "Meh.". This place would be great as a to go option to eat on the beach. When I take time to sit inside and enjoy my food and it comes wrapped in aluminum foil it is not at all appealing. Especially when you open it and it looks like it had been thrown at a wall. If you want a meh meal and meh drinks come here.
(2)NotTelling P.
It's a "modern mixture" of choices. Food: Gyro and salad were very good. Price OK. Service: Helpful, friendly, but a little slow considering that the place was not busy. Atmosphere: Boring. Not that you go there for atmosphere. Drinks: ? If I'm I return to Rehoboth, I will be back.

This was definitely a refreshing find in a beach town full of greasy, nondescript lunches. Based on other Yelper's recommendations, we checked this place out on a weekday for drinks and a light lunch. Yes, it's small... basically a converted alleyway, but once your inside and seated it doesn't seem that bad. I loved the frozen strawberry margarita; very fresh, no mix, tasted both strawberries and tequila. Win! I ordered the Middle Eastern chopped salad and really enjoyed the falafel. Great flavors, perfect size, etc. Not much to add to what everyone else has already raved about! I will say I was slightly let down by their tzatziki, which I asked for on the side to accompany the falafel in the salad. It was really sweet and just kind of tasted off. I ended up not using it and just had the salad as is. My boyfriend had the torta de Milanesa and ate the entire thing, so I am guessing he loved his too. I also really enjoyed the salsa bar in the back of the restaurant. We started with chips and guacamole, and walked back to try all of the fresh salsas they had as well. There was a pickled onion and habanero salsa that was great (but very hot!). The guacamole didn't disappoint, either. I would definitely recommend and will continue to return on future beach trips!

Great find for a hidden restaurant on the main drag. Deliciioso!! Margaritas are a must and the lavender is not to be missed.

Perhaps this place is best for meat eaters? We went in on our first night of vacation for an early dinner. The restaurant is cute and the service is fast and friendly indeed. The food, however, leaves a lot to be desired. They serve you a basket of chips with salsa to start- the salsa was great but the chips tasted like the ones I get in bags from the store. I am vegan so I ordered the vegetarian burrito without cheese- the server was nice enough to ask me if I wanted to add guacamole in place of the cheese- I said "sure"! The burrito itself was...okay. Just a mish mosh of ingredients: quinoa, mixed greens (which turned wilted because they were warm), vegetables, corn and the guac. It just seems like they put a bunch of random things together (green beans and broccoli?) to make a vegetarian option. I think sticking to the traditional beans and rice would make a better burrito. My husband was brave enough to try the vegan meatloaf. First off, it's a rather odd option at a place that serves tacos and burritos, to offer a meatloaf with mashed potatoes. But he ordered it and let me tell you, I wish I had taken a picture of it to post on here. It looked worse than what I imagine is served in prison- a rectangular brick, with a crusty/dried glaze that reminded me of dog food. He said it was bland and didn't look fresh at all. The "mashed potatoes" were literally that- a baked potato that had been mashed. Then there were both overcooked and nicely steamed zucchini on the plate as well. Hubby ate the potatoes and couldn't handle the rest. The very nice server was kind enough to take it off the bill. Still, they really shouldn't offer something that has such limited visual appeal. Why not just make vegan tacos or burritos instead? It would be a simple alternative for us vegans. Unfortunately, I don't believe we will be going back or recommending this place to other vegetarians.

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite after a day on the beach and I'm so glad we stopped here! We did have to wait a few minutes longer than I would have liked before a waitress came by to take our order. Once she took the order, the food came out quickly and was excellent! We also ordered sangria, which was some of the best I ever had! We'll definitely be stopping in again if we are in the area!
(4)Devin B.
Not embarrassed to say that we went back a day or two later for some take-out. My husband got the southwestern salad again -- we both loved it both times! I ordered a fish taco and shrimp taco. Don't know which one I enjoyed more. The savory fish mixed with the sweetness of the toppings made this an out-of-this-world experience. Again. :-)

I upgraded Modern Mixture to five stars after much soul searching, because I don't want you to go and be disappointed. It probably should rate 4 stars, but to me it is the best place to eat in Rehoboth Beach by far. This goes for lunch or dinner - I think they serve breakfast but I haven't eaten it there. The space is a long narrow corridor with tables left and right. Rents are high in Rehoboth Beach and by keeping their Rehoboth Avenue frontage down, they keep the rent reasonable too, and this is reflected in more than reasonable prices. But it is by no means a beautiful dining room. However, the food is very imaginative. Modern Mixture knows how to combine tastes and come up with something that is greater than the "sum of its parts". I won't recommend anything in particularly because everyone in our party liked what they ordered, and I fully believe the rest of the menu will be just as tasty. The menu is, however, limited, so check it out online, and don't expect dinner style plates. It's more burros and sandwiches, but don't let that put you off. Modern Mixture is probably even better for dinner than lunch, and the portions are generous.

All the staff - host, waitress, and even the chef who brought out our food - were amazingly friendly. All the food was fresh. Great salsa and guacamole. Plenty of unique vegetarian and even vegan options that I had a hard time choosing. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the location and for the quality.
(5)Matt R.
Fresh ingredients, wonderful salads, veggie burrito with Fall salad a winner! Juice bar was good as well!
(4)Karen K.
I always stop In on my beach visits when in town from Utah. Love this place! Great salads and amazing tamales. The sope is my fave, served with lots of fresh greens and I love the cotijo cheese on top. Friendly and efficient staff. Very clean. A great healthy place to stop while wandering around downtown RB. Good margaritas too!

Modern Mixture has moved to the top of my beach eats for the second year in a row! We ate here at least 5 times during our week stay due to the fresh ingredients, variety of dishes, and the warm welcome of the owner. The House chop salad was one of the best salad's i've ever eaten, so much that I purchased a chopper like they used as soon as I arrived home. The menu contains many healthy options and the owner will work to accommodate additional requests. Other items include smoothies, delicious tortas, burritos, and Mediterranean/latin spins on many favorite dishes. This year they started serving "adult" beverages and turn out incredible sangria! I highly recommend this restaurant for flavorful, affordable, and friendly eats!

Loved the Burrito Moderno - so much bacon! Great price.
(5)Beth N.
This is a must!! The food is remarkable, warm and very friendly staff, evil almost at the delectable advise they provide on what to get. Wow, who needs seafood!!!!! Middle Eastern chopped, fried ice cream and HM Cosmo. My suggestion, you need not thank me...
(5)Michelle Kei T.
This place is easy to miss. It may lack curb-appeal, but it more than makes up for it in fresh flavor. Good vegetarian options as well as some traditional favorites. I've had the fish tacos, which were delicious. But on my last trip in, I had the Burrito Mixto. Wow!! This was a good burrito!!! I'm usually not a fan of burritos with lettuce in them, but the difference is in the details. It's pretty obvious that chef Leo puts a lot of thought into everything on his menu. He only puts the romaine hearts into the burritos so they don't get mushy like regular lettuce. My husband had the Torta Milanesa, which was nice and spicy. He puts a lot of effort into the salads, too. He chops and mixes the ingredients when you order them. If they don't have the gluten-free vegan brownies, which are amazing, the tres leches cake is good, too - not ridiculously sweet. This was only my second time in the restaurant, but he remembered me! His attention to detail is what makes this little place awesome! I'll definitely be back!

Amazing lamb burrito. The place looks simple but everyone's food was excellent.

I have to admit, I was impressed! I've been disappointed in every Mexican place that I've stepped into since leaving San Diego. We came in on a night when there was a large group taking up all the space in the restaurant, but they made room for us anyway. The chips are freshly fried - hot and crispy. The burritos are generously sized and filled with deliciously fresh ingredients. Just pick the one that has the flavor combo you like best. You'll leave happy and full. My wife had a the fish tacos which were super tasty! Salads are crisp - chopped and tossed to order. But I have to say that the most delightful surprise was the gluten-free, vegan brownie - moist and delicious. It may sound strange, but you should absolutely give it a chance. You won't be sorry. The place is small, so you might have to wait, but it's definitely worth it!! Next time we're in town, you'll see us there!

Was down at my Girlfriend's Shore house in Milton last weekend and we hit the beach super early to secure a good spot. Once we set up shop and picked our spot at Rehoboth Beach we realized we hadn't eaten anything and were starved. I took out my phone and went immediately to yelp to help us pick a spot. We came across Modern Mixture and decided to try it out. WOW was I surprised at how AMAZING this place is. The service is absolutely top notch and super friendly. I'm not a huge Mexican Food person but it's always good to switch it up and have some food variety. I decided to get the Flautas...One word....Scrumptious. If you had to get one thing from this place, make it the Flautas. On to the dessert...do yourself a favor and get the Fried Ice Cream and thank me later. If you're on the main strip in Rehoboth make sure you stop in Modern Mixture!

This was 100% amazing. The experience at Modern Mixture in Rehoboth and in Milton was memorable. Both places are small, clean, and fresh in style. Much cheaper than other places. The staff is fun, knowledgeable, and friendly. So what?....let's get to the incredible food. First , I experienced the marinated beef because so many people raved about it. I ordered the Simply Burrito. When it first entered my mouth I STOPPED. I knew this was going to be the best thing I had ever put in my mouth. It was like the moment before an organism. I just knew it was going to be fantastic. As my teeth sunk into the tasty treat the flavor of the marinate teased my tongue. Eventually I bit the whole way through not expecting it to become more tasty. HOWEVER, with each chew another sensation flooded my mouth. Each bite become more and more outstanding. Bite, after bite satisfied. I couldn't imagine anything could ever out perform that incredible beef. Then there was the FISH TACO!!!!! WOW. Mind blowing!!! The perfectly sized fried fish was covered in a rich colored slaw. I lack the language to describe what it tasted like. It was a new and exciting to my mouth. The slaw started out tangy, almost spicy, and just when I thought it may be too much for my mouth to handle...WHAM... is became subtle and sweet. Yummy-da-yummy-da-yum. Okay, I am not finished. The freshly made guacamole, corn chips and bean salad were all solid in flavors and texture. Kicking and screaming I tried the Kale-apple salad. It was savory and light in sweetness and I cleaned my plate. i ordered it two days in a row because it was the best healthy think I every eat. The best healthy thing I ever drank was the LIMEADE. It had Kale in it. I couldn't detect it at all. The waiter made me an agave/lemon/seltzer drink. SUPER DELICIOUS! I propose that any body who is driving to Rehoboth via the Bay Bridge should be stopped and pledge to eat at Modern Mixture. You must try it. Fair price. Outstanding quality. Great Staff. THE BEST!!! ---Agave in Lewes was my favored. This place is so much cheaper. Dos Locus is over priced, greasy, and the owner was nasty about a soda I had ordered.
(5)Keith D.
We were looking to find a nice refreshing salad, found Modern Mixture throughYelp and hit a home run. We both had the Mid-Eastern Chopped salad with quinoa, radishes, falafel, feta cheese. Our server Teddy was outstanding with a great personality. Everything we needed or would ask for was brought to us as if he was the one requesting it for it himself. All freshly made. Great power food. Looking forward to going back. The Kale power shake was awesome.
(4)S K.
My god. It's like stumbling onto an oasis in the middle of the Sarah. This place is absolutely amazing. A little middle Eastern, a little Cuban , add a pinch of Mexican and you ultimately get a hybrid of deliciousness wrapped all together. For you meat lovers out there, I highly suggest the burrito moderno. It is by far the most amazing sandwich I've ever had. My wife got the middle eastern chopped salad and Its probably the best salad I've every eaten. I would come here for lunch anyday of the week. The service is very kind and polite. They are very patient and will go over any questions you may have. This place is a must people if you are in Rehoboth.
(5)Laura A.
This gets 5 stars from me just because of the service, the flautas appetizer, and the fried ice cream... All were awesome. The boyfriend and I will definitely be back here soon!!!
(5)Gene G.
Not at all what I expected for food near the beach. Fresh ingredients, huge portions, and lots of flavor.
(4)C M.
I have been on the search for the perfect fish taco, these rank pretty high on the list. We done!!!
(5)Brian S.
Wonderful and charming little place. Food made to order but well worth the wait. Loved the Cuban and chopped salads! Check out the lavender margarita! Leo is the best...ask for him!!
