The food here is good but not the best. I've tried a lot of things there with my favorite being the falafel sandwich and the eggplant salad. The only complaint I have is that most of the meat dishes I get are pretty dry. They say they marinade their meats and what not but it doesn't taste like it to me. Either that or they cook it for way too long. Either way, it isn't bad at all. I order from here occasionally as I live right down the street.

Sorry... this food is not good.... I ordered the chicken shwarma... and I'm a chicken shwarma finatic....I'm not sure what I was eating.. It was in some kind of a wheat wrap instead of a pita.... the shwarma didn't taste fresh and the garlic sauce tasted more like mayo. I also ordered lentil soup! I must say they were generous enough to give me a taste beforehand as I'm kind of picky about my lentil soup... it was pretty delish so I ordered the soup... well they gave it to me cold!! Who serves people cold soup? I also asked for pita bread to go with my lentil soup (which they charged me for) and it was not only cold but it was regular old pita bread that I could buy from ShopRite... not the real authentic pita bread I usually get from middle eastern restaurants. I was really disappointed. Back to Ali Baba's I go!

While this is not the best Middle Eastern fare that I have had, I have to say that it was real good. I started with the baba ghanoush. Very nice smoky flavor. Good, not the best, but damn good. Had the harira soup. Was nice, but a little mild in the spice department for my tastes. I then had the Oasis Platter, with lamb. chicken and kafta kebabs. This was very good! I asked for the lamb medium. It came a perfect medium. The chicken was very moist. the Kafta was tasty. Rice was refreshingly not mushy. I do have to agree with one thing that a previous poster said... One of the condiments was mayonnaise based instead of yogurt and mint. I ate there on a Tue evening. They were getting pretty busy with take out as well as the adjacent grocery store, so the service was a little slow. I mean really... understandable. They were very friendly. I am traveling on business, but would love to come here again. I also picked up some very cool specialty items and spices

Came here with friends and sampled a number of dishes for dinner. The falafel was, hands down, the best I'd ever had -- crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and nicely spiced. The other side dishes were all above-average -- very good hummus, as well as baba ganoush, stuffed grape leaves, and pita bread. Kebab entrees were nicely cooked, the basmati rice first-rate. The mint tea came pre-sweetened -- very sweet, in fact -- but strong, hot and delicious. We didn't really leave room for dessert, but the adjoining shop had plenty of individually-sized treats, and a very good selection of spices, too, by the way. Food service in the restaurant was a tad slow, but the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth checking out if you're passing through town or need a nice stop off the Interstate... Recommended.

The place is a hole in the wall. Not much of a restaurant vibe, as the grocery store shares the same space. The TV was playing soccer game from some Arabian league quite loudly. Hummus was very good. The best I've eaten in the Delaware valley so far. The Babaganoush was A++. Among the best I've eaten, including in the actual middle east. The pitas are not fresh, and too thin. The falafel is under spiced but crispy and fresh. The stuffed grape leaves are vegetarian and pretty good. The hummus with meat was good. I will definitely Be back.

Baba ganooj -- fantastic flavor and texture Falafel -- good but underspiced, still probably the best in the Newark area Samosas -- small and disappointing; textured like a bad egg roll Pita -- mediocre, but at least served warm

Absolutely this place terrible. Firstly starting from ordering dinner from this place , after waiting for ten minutes finally someone had show up and asked what your guys like to order ,waiters had no clue about manue. Didn't ask us anything about drinks at all they're extremely over priced and lack of their customer service I can't believe they charged us 12$ for person when I asked for water they told us we don't offer water you have to buy it we not that type restaurant offer water . any restaurant would get tap water or at least ask you what you like to drink . Only reason we ended up going there because we're not from state of Delaware, though we get some good dinner unfortunately we all were disappointed big time. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone please save your money and your time stay away from this place.

This is one of the worst restaurant in Newark area. Very bad customer service. Server was unaware of the food menu. They charge for water.

My girlfriend and I found this place on yelp during a trip from New Jersey to DC while avoiding the Delaware I-95 toll shakedown. This grocery store slash restaurant is located an bland suburban strip mall but the food is excellent and reasonably priced. The owner was really nice and made us feel at home. The restaurant was empty though on a Friday night at 730, which initially was cause for alarm. We were proven wrong though. The dishes we both has we're really tasty and it felt like the food was home cooked. In fact, it was, because the kitchen was open and you could watch it being prepared. Implicit in this that the food took very long to come out. So don't expect fast food! We also thought the place could have used a quick cleaning as some of the tables still hadn't been cleared from prior unseen guests. Overall a great experience brought to you by yelp.

We had the Ramadan special dinner buffet and found it to be quite delicious. The baked chicken was probably the best item. The grocery store next door has some unique items as well. We offered to pay for an additional buffet for our 15 month old but the owner would not let us. He also gave our baby a sesame cookie on our way out.

I stopped in this restaurant/grocery store a little too early for the lunch buffet, so i opted for the falafel appetizer and a gyro sandwich. The falafel was crisp on the outside and very tasty.. The gyro was pretty good also. Although the pita that it was served on tasted like it was either frozen or premade, it wasn't a bad meal. Inside the store there was all types of candy, spices, gifts, clothing, drinks, and frozen products. I wish i had more time to just hang out. But i will stop in again the next time that I'm in the area.

The food is fantastic, everything starting from the appetizers to the shawrma, shishtawook, and mixed grills. I wanted to give five stars, but the place needs to be cleaner a little bit. I don't mean it's dirty, no its clean but not very clean may be the day I visited them was different I am not sure. However, it's a great place and I advice you to visit Oasis.

WASTE OF $$$$!!!! I knew of Oasis when it first opened a few years ago when the food was actually good. The restaurant has actually been sold twice since it first opened, sadly. The quality of food is sub-par and the prices are overly inflated...the prices were high when it first opened but I was willing to pay the price for good food. Bad experience #1. The first of my three consecutive bad experiences begins with a chicken kabob about a year ago from this review (5/14). Chicken was undercooked and the accompanying sauce was made of mayonnaise, NOT yoghurt. Ewe. Bad experience #2. Everyone has bad days so I gave it another go...had the gyro "sandwich". The lamb was overcooked and the "sandwich" was presented to me WITHOUT the bread (and they gave me lamb meat special a la carte and dry as a bone...hey, if I wanted that I would have gone to McDonald's!). Some sandwich! Bad experience #3. Today I ordered a gyro platter...with rice and "salad" and a "gyro sandwich". Firstly, when I placed the order, I had to re-emphasize that I would like the bread that is SUPPOSED to come with the gyro (really?!). Secondly, I picked up the food and checked it and, oila, no bread (seriously?!). Thirdly, I had to ask *again* for the bread (I needed a good beer by this time to help me relax a little). Fourthly, the same man who opened the door for me touching his hands to the doorknob to the front entrance of the restaurant is the same man who put the "gyro bread" on the grill WITHOUT FIRST WASHING HIS HANDS and yes, I watched...I am a seasoned germophobe. Fifthly when I returned home to eat my meal...and yes I was traumatized and feared what germs may be proliferating on the bread...decided to eat the germ-bread anyway just because I was starved; sadly, that did not happen because the "gyro bread" (as Oasis referred to it) was afterall, NOT "gyro bread" but actually, two separate, very thin pitas. WTF?! The pitas were clearly purchased from a grocery market and I assure you, was not the same quality pita I was used to when they opened years ago, and obviously you do not use pitas to wrap a gyro. So disapponting. Finally, I paid $11.99 for this over priced crap. The *only* thing going for the food on all of my three experiences was the rice...but that is certainly not enough to get me to come back. I would not waste your time or money going here. Ali Baba remains the hands down #1 MVP in Middle Eastern food in Delaware. And that, folks, is the truth! Best of eats... -Ms. Foodie

This will not be the fanciest place to visit but the food here is absolutely filled with rich flavors. The ambience is just about fine, but this is a perfect place for you to drop by, have a quick delicious meal. This is a little pricey considering the potion size for an entree, it really is very tasty.

Truly great food and incredible prices (particularly compared to DC). Funny enough, I did have a similar experience with the water. .. I heard one of the guys tell another table they didn't have trap water (only bottles). I was fortunate enough to get tap water, but, was told they didn't have ice. Odd. All of that aside, you come for the food. The options are incredible. Many things I've never seen before - I wanted to try them all! I settled on the falafel platter, and the guy was kind enough to sub the roasted eggplant for the babaganoush. Divine! Huge portion... won't need dinner that's for sure. But it was well worth it. Glad I made the stop on the way back to DC! Highly recommend!

Came for lunch. After sitting for maybe 5 minutes I wasn't sure if there was wait service, so I went up to the counter and ordered there. Come to find out as others trickled in that they did have a waiter, he just didn't wait on me. I tried the turkish coffee, falafel appetizer and beef shawarma. 4 tiny falafel discs came out with cold, store bought wheat pita triangles, 4 tomato slices and a thimble of tahini; tasty, but pretty small. The beef shawarma was tough, overcooked steak strips with onion and gherkins, wrapped in what seemed like a low carb wheat tortilla. The Turkish coffee was actually really good. If you get it, just be sure to fold up a napkin to grab the pot handle, or you will burn your hand. It didn't need any sugar since it was already kind of sweet. The music over the PA system sounded like it was from the same computer someone was using to IM, because I kept hearing the same BLOOP new message notifications the whole visit.

There is another yelp page for this place but that listing doesn't mention their market. The restaurant and market are in the same building and share the same space. Even with 2 front doors, there is no wall dividing the places, just a shelf with items for sale on it (as my pictures show.) I actually found out about this place because pictures of it came up in the "recently posted" section of yelp. The food looked so good I had to do research about this place. I came home the long way just so I could try this place out for dinner tonight. I walked in the right door, where the restaurant was and there were people standing at a counter in the middle of the room. There were people in line so I stood to the side reviewing their menu, which was attached to the counter. I already knew what I was going to get since I looked at their menu online, when I found out about them. I ordered the Chicken Gyro (which the woman behind the counter pronounced "Geeryo") and a falafel. I walked around the place taking pictures for yelp. They had really pretty head scarfs in the back of the store (I uploaded a picture on here.) Also next to the register they had large boxes of different ingredients (i.e. coconut); lots of Turkish stuff around the market. My food was done probably 15-20 minutes later. The falafel was for someone else and they said they liked it. I tasted it and to me, it was bland. The Chicken Gyro was mine and it was really good. It came with this sweet mayo and some red spicy jelly stuff; which I spread all over the inside of the fluffy pita bread. The chicken slices were pounded thin and there were thin pencil sized slices of dill pickle which was a nice little crunch. That gyro, was one of the best ones I've ever had. I am going to be back for their buffet.

Everything I have had here is delicious including the lentil soup, salad, falafel and gyro platter. The staff is incredibly nice and generous. They always give us more than we order. I gave 4 instead of 5 just because they always seem to forget our water!! But they more than make up for it.

What a funny little place you are, Oasis. I needed some Saudi date cookies for a conference presentation, so we headed to Oasis to shop in their market & grab a bite to eat for lunch. The grocery selection is fantastic. The restaurant area was completely empty on a Sunday, so our lamb gyros came out very quickly. It was a huge sandwich with very flavorful meat & tasty sauce. Service after we were served out meals was non existent - we had to go up to the counter to pay before anyone else addressed us again, but if that's how they roll at the Oasis, that's cool with me. Can't wait to go back - that sandwich was fab.

Yesterday we had dinner at Oasis. We used a Groupon, so we enjoyed multiple courses. The food and service were both excellent and I was made to feel special, because it was my birthday. My husband and I each had different entrees, so we shared the items; this made for a very interesting and balanced meal. We are looking forward to attending the buffet luncheon on Fridays from 2:00-5:00, so we can explore some new food choices. This review was posted on YELP.
