For better or for worse, downtown Newark, specifically the neighborhoods around main street and the university, constitute a college town environment. Subsequently, there is no shortage of restaurants of all kinds. Chinese food is popular, and the number of restaurants in Newark that serve it are many. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses, and Number 1 Chinese Food Take Out has the following characteristics: Online ordering - This is a big plus for me. They run this service through Grubhub, which allows your to make your selection, order, and pay by phone or on the computer. This makes it easier to get your food quicker, and they do carryout and as well as delivery. Speed - Fairly fast. My food was in my hands around thirty minutes after I put in the order. Menu selection - Decent. I'm allergic to shellfish but they do have a good amount of shellfish on the menu. Good selection of soups, as well as chicken, beef, pork, and I believe even some vegetarian options. I ordered their sesame chicken special and was not disappointed. For $7.50, I got a generous serving of chicken along with a massive portion of pork fried rice. It also came with an egg roll, which was delicious. All-in-all, the food tasted pretty good. I'd recommend this place for cheap, generic chinese food, because that's all it is.

A group of friends and I just ordered from these guys last night. We ordered fried wontons, sesame chicken, fried rice, and egg rolls. Although it was cheap, I wouldn't have eaten it if it was free. Unfortunately it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had.

I used to go to this Chinese takeout place from time to time when I was living in Newark. Basically I went there because it was a 5 minute walk and it was the cheapest place around for Chinese food. I suppose you get what you pay for however. The food was usually hot which was a plus but it was of very poor quality. The fried rice barely resembled any fried rice you would receive elsewhere. It glows a neon orange color and is often hard and not very fresh tasting. The takeout area is pretty much like any other Chinese takeout place. It looks pretty rundown and is in the rundown Newark Shopping Center. Unless you are really broke or too drunk to care, spend the extra 5 bucks and get some better Chinese takeout elsewhere.

Looked up on HungryHens.com . There is an order online feature which allows you to check if they will deliver. Entered my address, and it says they can deliver. So I placed my order and a minute after I confirm I get a call saying that I'm too far away. What the point in having this feature if it's inaccurate?

Just ordered No. 1 Chinese off of hungryhens.com last night and there were some really good deals and prices. Got the General Tso's chicken and crab rangoons. Delicious. I liked my fortune as well =)

Food here is not fresh and it is salty. I went to the restaurant 3 days ago and the woman, who might be the owner's wife, talked loud and in an unpleasant way. Try another Chinese restaurant! This one sucks.
