As we walked in the door, a couple walking out smiled at us saying, "you're going to be happy." And my goodness were we! The brussel sprout salad was a highlight, warm with chunks of chorizo and a side of grilled flatbread. Dinner was so good that when we were talking about where to go with our friends the next night, we convinced them to go back. And that is when the magic happened. We ordered the brussel sprout salad again, and the broiled scallops with a balsamic glaze, wilted spinach and risotto. I love scallops, and these were, hands down, the best scallops I've ever eaten. Amazing. Sweet, with the perfect melt in your mouth texture. The glaze flavor floated on top, not overpowering the delicate scallop flavor. The texture of the risotto was a perfect compliment, and the spinach was lovely. I hesitate to add anything else because the scallops were so amazing. But I can say that the flourless chocolate torte was lovely. My dinner mates were all please with their meals as well. The decor was pleasant, waitstaff genuinely friendly, and the street parking easy and free. They have a full bar with lots if local beers. Waitstaff shout outs to Kayla and Christine. All in all, a fantastic spot!!

Now reopened as the Blue Plate. Not great. Breakfast was expensive for what you get. I had the veggie omelette which had 3 ingredients in it at 1.50 each an coming out to $10.25, the order came out wrong, as did my wife's. Coffee was way too strong and took 3 creamers to get it to a descent color. So 2 omelettes with two coffees for $27.50, are you kidding me, these prices I expect when I am in NYC not opposite a hospital in Lewes.

This once converted gas station to restaurant is wonderfully decorated. The moment you walk in you know you're in a hip modern joint of course my use of the word hip is probably not hip in this day and age. Nevertheless, the fake garage doors and use of license plates makes this place cool. I especially enjoyed the high backed booths and long tables give plenty of room for 4 or even 6 to enjoy a meal. Service: Luckily we didn't have to wait to be seated but it wasn't long before the place was full. It only took a minute of looking at the menu before our server was by taking orders and offering some menu advice. The whole time he was quick to our needs and nice. In short, great service. The Bar: For being a small restaurant it's bar stock wasn't too much different from the rest of the places in the beach resort area. I didn't order a Bloody Mary so I can't tell you how well they mix but I'm sure it was at least as good as the other places I tried in historic Lewes. Meals: The menu is deceptively larger than it appears but overly so. My wife ordered the Crab Benedict, which came packed full of crab. The hollandaise sauce was great and except for the potatoes being a bit flavorless it was an all around fantastic meal. Our daughter ordered the Ham and Egg Breakfast Sandwich. It was a good size too. The ham slice was bigger than most ham steak and eggs, had to be a 5oz. I decided on the Salmon Benedict with the sauce on the side and grits. My eggs were poached perfectly, the grits were pretty good and except for the english muffin being a little dry...almost a day old bread taste to it, it too was wonderful. Cleanliness: The whole place looked spotless and the co'ed bathrooms were no different. A quick look into the kitchen and watching the plates being picked-up / passed looked as if the kitchen was no different. Overall: I loved this place from the wait staff automotive shirts to the dang good cooking. I'll be back and for me it's a 5 Star breakfast and lunch joint.

Best breakfast at the beach!! Crab eggs Benedict is amazing. We make a point to come here every time we are in town.

Change the name of this place on gps navigation systems. Sandwiches were yummy. The turkey Ruben and avocado blt was great. Asked for it as carry out and took it to the beach.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch. They were hopping! Finally found a street spot on the other side of the park. We were told it would be 20 mins for two and decided to get a drink from the bar while we wait. The bar area was cramped and right in the middle of where the servers needed to run with food and drink orders. We were definitely in the way until a nice couple at the bar scooted over so we could squish in. The bloody mary's were great, slightly more citrus than other I have had. I ordered the lobster omelette and my husband got the crab cake bennedict. My omelette was definitely the superior of the two, although his was also delicious. The home-fries and the grits were okay, perhaps just a little soggy. It was a fun brunch!

Breakfast on June 10: Tasty fluffy omelets; moderate strength coffee, not hot on some of the refills; good wheat toast, but the bread was not as dense as I like; mushy breakfast potatoes. If you like your potatoes crispy, ask for them well done. Sometimes that works. Servers were friendly and attentive.

Food was fine, I had the avocado BLT wrap. But 3 of my friends had the build your own omelette, while they said they were good, BEWARE! Yes, they did get crab meat in them, among other items but they all cost $22-28!!! Now if you were expecting this it would be fine, but they all basically laughed at themselves when they got the bill. Not knowing they charge a lot for each item, not the usually so many basic items free. Live and learn lol.

It got this many stars for the service, certainly not the food. Breakfast. What could possible go wrong? Home fries- an abomination ($2.50). Got it taken off the bill ( I like that). Do not order the HF. Cardboard and cardboard dust. Toast- browned but not toasted !! How? Why? Poached eggs- they were fine ($4.25). If they weren't I would recommend this place shut down. I inquired to their veggie burger ( in case I come back for lunch one day). Frozen ( I won't. Cheaper to buy Morningstar). All in all, no quality control and a lackluster kitchen. Will I come back? Oh the torture I sustain for a $3 Mimosa. And the service is good. The place is cute ( trying to end on an up note). Free street parking. And it's in Lewes so you don't have to trek through beach traffic to Rehoboth. Yeah, I'll be back.

Great decor, good service, good food and great selection. Would be nice if it was BYOB or a little cheaper in terms of food prices but it's a nice find in this area especially for breakfast. We'll definitely be back when in the area and looking for a nice unique place for breakfast.

Good was pretty good but service was slow. Charged $5.25 for one kids pancake with a few chocolate chips. If you're used to a high value kids meal this isn't the place for you. The California Omelette was very tasty.

I highly recommend JD's as a destination restaurant. Their menu has many good choices, the food we ordered was delicious and Lauren, our waitress, was friendly and helpful. My husband and I shared several small plates: the brussels sprout salad (a true original and must have for brussels sprout fans), blackened shrimp and scallops over shrimp grits, an amazing crab cake with delicious mashed potatoes and string beans, and scallops in a balsamic reduction with rice. All Perfect!! And we plan to go back for breakfast because we have heard it can't be beat.

Too bad that they do not honor their web site promotions. They advertised Monday Night Date Night special at $40 per couple. Arranged our schedule around this thinking it would be a good way to try out new owners / format. Arrived to find that it had changed to $40 per person. Showed them web site promotion to no avail so we left. There were only 3 other tables in use. You would think they could have used the business tonight and fostered a loyal customer.

We've visited this place several times through the years, since it was Blue Plate Diner (and apparently run/owned by two different sets of people) to today, as JD's Filling Station. For those reviewers who complained about it being hit or miss -- it's *always* been hit or miss! This is a diner. They're not going to the market every morning and picking out the best/freshest ingredients. Their stuff probably comes from Sysco and varies in quality as a result. This isn't to say that it's bad -- far from it. It can be great! You want a huge plate of pancakes? Come on in! You want a gourmet seafood entree? Well, you might get it, or you might not -- just like any diner across the country. And this is a place on the main street toward the beach -- it's gonna be more expensive than you'd prefer but none of the prices are completely outrageous. At our last visit, we had three omelettes, grilled cheese, and a spicy chicken tender wrap. Everything was as described, tasty, and served hot 'n' ready to chow. The service was swift, friendly, and helpful. And the kid's meal came with a free frisbee that we used to good effect at the beach. I'm not sure what else you could ask for from a diner.

We tried JDs for the first time on a Saturday night - we didn't feel like waiting for hours for Agave or Half Full. We got seated right away, which could have been a bad sign but once the food arrived we decided it was just because they are slightly off the main part of Lewes. The scallops and the Thai curry were both very good. We'll be back for sure. The four stars is just because it felt a little overpriced, even for the beach, not because there was anything wrong with the food!

I used to come here when it was the Blue Plate so I wasn't sure what to expect. The inside hasn't changed much except they have added a few license plates to the wall...this is not a bad thing since it has retained the bright, clean, and inviting atmosphere of its previous incarnation. The service was great but the food was average. We had a pretty good cheeseburger, an overdressed salad, an ok turkey club, and delicious soup. Everyone in the party was pretty satisfied but not blown away. The bill was pretty steep for what we ordered. We will probably come back for breakfast as their menu was chock full of tasty morning tidbits.

Had the cheesesteak omelet and it was excellent! In fact, everything about breakfast was very good.

Let me say that this restaurant may be better than my 2 star review implies, however that is what my meal produced. I had the lobster omelette, which was filled with copious amounts of rubbery lobster meat. In addition, I didn't find it to have much flavor at all. Similarly the grits that were served on the side had been allowed to cool before being served, so they had a head start on the conversion to glue. One positive is that the hollandaise sauce is served on the side so I could control the sauce to omelette ratio. The high point was the service. The waitress was very efficient, pleasant and friendly. The food also was delivered fairly quickly. Overall, maybe if you get something else you can have a good experience. For me there was enough that I found unimpressive that I will likely not return.

I went with my family (2 small kids, 2 big kids, 5 adults) last week. I picked the place because it was my mother's birthday and they offered her favorites - crab cakes and creme brulee. The server and kitchen were particularly accommodating and tolerate of the 2 small kids. We asked that the toddler's grilled cheese sandwiches be brought ASAP - they were, no problem. Mom said the crab cakes were the absolute best she had ever had. Everyone else said their meals were very good - steak, lobster, chicken fingers, and a vegetarian entree (ordered off the menu). Because of the toddlers, we ordered dessert to go (a flour-less chocolate cake and creme brulee). Again, the kitchen and server were very accommodating - the desserts were enjoyed at home. I would absolutely recommend the restaurant, especially for diners with small children in tow but still want a great meal.

The food is great and the staff very friendly and welcoming. I had the blackened mahi mahi with lobster ravioli, it was super tasty. My husband had the bison burger and thought it was delicious. I like that there is an option of "tasting plates" for a smaller portion. I opted for the tasting plate size and it was more than enough food. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back!

Excellent breakfast/brunch place. Service was good, food was perfectly prepared, and the prices are very reasonable (a generous portion of lobster eggs benedict was $13!).

Had breakfast here yesterday with my husband. Always passed it, but never ate here. I got the California omelet (yum) and my husband got the stuffed French toast. Everything was so good, glad to have found another place in Lewes!

J.D's Filling Station was one of the surprise hits of our recent week at the beach. J.D.'s food is delicious, attractive, and generously proportioned. Their sausage patties are humongous, as are their fruit plates. And my greek omelet (feta, tomato, and -- yes! -- capers) was fluffy and wonderful. And, importantly, J.D.'s coffee is EXCELLENT. Finally, while you can't eat decor, J.D.'s is really cool -- it's an auto motif, so the place is filled with old road maps, hubcaps, collectible model trucks, etc. Not schlocky in the least. Just a great place for breakfast.

I am almost sorry to put up a bad review for this place. However, the food I had was a far cry from what other reviewers had mentioned. Perhaps it was because my bf and I arrived around 3pm for a late lunch and there was only one other patron in the whole place (closing out their bill while we were seated). We ordered the fish and chips as well as the fish tacos for lunch. The fish and chips were good but my tacos were pretty bad. The tacos were covered in melted cheese which actually hid the battered fish and had little else besides cabbage and tomatoes. (Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of cheese, but in this case it did not work.) Luckily, there was his pile of fish and chips to keep me happy. Overall, I think this place is okay and service was quick as well as friendly but perhaps their shining star is from the summer breakfast crowd...not the late lunch, winter season folks.

Very impressive breakfast place, just down the road from the hotel we were staying at (Hotel Blue). It's got a very kitschy vibe, what with all the license plates and the faux auto repair shop decor. The food was top notch; I had the Eggs Benedict Chesapeake (Eggs Benedict with a crab cake) which went slightly overkill on the Hollandaise but was very generous with the crab (though they shouldn't say it was a crab cake, there was nothing but crab in that "cake"). Great home fries, good biscuits, and a good cup o' joe. Doesn't get much better than that for breakfast.

Decent place for breakfast. Think somewhere between diner and casual restaurant. Pancakes are enormous. Lots of choices on the menu - creamed chipped beef, scrapple and various benedicts complement the regular breakfast fare. Just as when it was the Blue Plate, the service is hit or miss - even during the same week. One day the service is fantastic, the next you are waiting an interminable amount of time for your check. Nice people, though. And, you'll never have a bad meal here - food is well prepared - and you won't leave hungry. Easy bike ride from the Lewes beach rentals or walk from parking 2nd street in town

We came here for dinner on the recommendation of my in laws, we were pleasantly surprised! The food was amazing!! We were expecting diner food but we received gourmet meals at a reasonable price! We highly recommend this place if you are looking for a delicious fresh meal!

We were going to go to Striper Bites, but they are closed on Sunday's. We had the best food at JD's! We had the sirloin with pepper sauce, mashed potatoes, and veggies. We also tasted mac and cheese and buffalo cole slaw. Everything was delicious..the flavors were just right! The cole slaw was awesome! We liked it so much, we went back for breakfast. That was delicious, too!

Heard this was a good local place to eat. My wife ordered a "build your own" omelet and I ordered Eggs Benedict w/ sausage. The food was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. The home fries were very bland with absolutely no seasoning. Overall, simple plain good food. I would have given them three stars, but when we got our bill, the build your own omelet was just under $18! That is ridiculous, for a cheese, spinach, onions & mushrooms omelet that was about the size of my hand.

The only things you fill up on at JD's Filling Station is bad food. They microwaved the omelets, the home fried potatoes and even used the microwave to make the bacon "crispier." To make matters even more unpleasant, our server was zoned out. If you want a decent breakfast avoid this place and go to The Chrystal in RB for real food.

Cute & casual inside, but food was a miss. Ordered a simple burger and I think it was a frozen patty - kind of overlooked, tough. Tomato soup smelled and tasted like it was right from the can. Bring back The BluePlate Diner and their home cooking.
