Admittedly, we were all Famishus rex when we arrived here. It's not to say that we would have taken whatever came our way - we saw this place, were pleased by its exterior, and decided to give it a try. Glad we did. The Cuatro bean and cheese burrito with chicken was very good. A little too much cheese for my liking but that's just me. The added chicken was a great choice, as it rounded out the dish nicely. Very generously proportioned and filling - couldn't finish it all but it was very, very good. My kids had a Baja Caesar salad and a BBQ burger, respectively, and they each enjoyed them thoroughly. Will definitely consider this place again amid the many, many choices of this busy strip in Bethany Beach.

This place has potential but really fails when it comes to their staff. Their big thing is happy hour which is everyday from 3-6 with good food and drink specials. I would recommend going for a couple of happy hour drinks but eating elsewhere. We have a place in Bethany so do go from time to time but we know what to expect. Two recent examples of poor training of their staff (or poor policies?): 1. We saw an employee wipe down tables with a dirty rag, then wipe the trashcan, then wipe tables again with the same filthy rag. I imagine this violates a few health codes. I hope the owner / manager reads this so they can address these sanitation issues. 2. We asked for a margarita, which is undoubtedly their most advertised drinks, on the rocks with salt. We were told that we could help ourselves to packets of salt. What? We clarified because we thought it was a communication error, but again the girl at the register said they don't rim glasses and to just use packets of salt. C'mon! This is laughable.

$2 beers and free queso with the yelp app can't be beat. Order your burrito enchilada style. You won't regret it. Portions are big. The Mexican behind the counter was cute. Fun outdoor area.

Great place to have a bite to eat. It's fast and clean. Good service too. PS: stroller friendly and changing table in the bathroom.

We really enjoyed this place. Stopped in for lunch. I ordered the fried cod tacos and they were served over pico with pickles onions with a great sauce. It looked very fresh and appetizing. My boyfriend ordered the pork burrito and he also enjoyed it, the pork was very well flavored and tender. They have a salsa bar we tried out with the chips from the chips and queso. Im usually not a queso person but you could tell it was homemade. Will be back it was really great!

Quick and tasty food for a reasonable price. Great for a bite to eat after a walk on the boardwalk or some time at the beach. If you are looking for a sit down restuarant maybe not the place for you.

Awesome place to grab a few a quick bite. Breakfast is great and the happy hour is clutch.

Don't waste your time, too many better options in Bethany. Food was mediocre, prices on prominently placed menus incorrect. 80 oz pitcher of margaritas cost $25 and hardly filled three 12 oz glasses (including ice). While menu price for 16 oz margarita was $5.95. When manager was asked for explanation they responded that we should have ordered the 16 oz size.

Very bland burritos and salsa. It seemed that nothing had any flavor whatsoever. And seriously $9 dollars for a burrito is unreal. The same burrito where i just came from in California would be $5 and much tastier. Steak was chewy. Will not be returning.

  • Roman S.

Kids liked their food, but ours was not good. Caesar wrap was bland and had too much tortilla. Pacific salad with shrimp was also bad. French fries were so over salted even kids did not want them. The place is not too overpriced for the beach, but the quality needs improvement.

Very cool fanning system, consisting of five lily pad-like straw flat surfaces, that move in synchronization. Im adding an additional star to my review because Mambo #5 just came on. It's been 20 minutes since we ordered and still no food, but play that funky music just came on, so I'll keep the stars on. just got the food, took 25 min, but it's pretty good!

My wife & I come here for breakfast whenever in Bethany. Great food & priced right! Never dissapointed. Try the Baja omlette! Alexandra from Romania was a wonderful hostess this last visit. - TomK

Came for happy hour. Crowd is nice, not over crowded...dirty tables in the outside sitting area. I recommend skipping the sangria pitcher...taste like wine poured out of the bottle with some fruit cut up at the top of the pitcher for decor. The pitcher was all ice too....besides that, I enjoyed my visit here

  • Wilson B.

Not too crowded. The Pacifico salad wasn't all that good; everything tasted incredibly bland. I tasted a friend's burrito bowl, though, and it wasn't bad. Perhaps salads just aren't their strong suit. Not the worst place to eat, but you'll get better food at a similar or cheaper price at any Chipotle or Qdoba, etc.

The sign outside boasting "Best Breakfast in Bethany" definitely drew us in--that is a big boast. I haven't had any other breakfasts in Bethany, but this was a good one. The eggs and omelet were really good, LOVED the side potatoes. I usually don't but these were crispy and without onions. My son had the chocolate pancakes and said they tasted good, although they were huge and impossible for one person to finish.

YUCK!! I used to really like this place but the quality has gone down the drain and the prices have gone up. I took my toddler there and was planning on ordering him a kids meal, but for $6 you should get some options of what they come with. They just come with apples and cookies. When I asked if I could sub something for the apples, the woman said no substitutions real sharply. Really??? They couldn't replace that with some rice? Then I suggested they give some options for the kids meals, since children can be really picky, and I wanted my son filled up with something more solid than apples for dinner. Mid-sentence the girl looked away from me with a disgusted look on her face and acted like she was ignoring me. I told her I guess she really didn't care what I was saying and she pretended like she didn't hear me. She was absolutely rude!! I should have walked out then, and wish I had. But it was getting late and my son was hungry. So I stayed for a disgusting meal. I ordered shrimp and chicken fajita. For $15 they should cut up some fresh vegetables. The veggies were from cans. The green peppers were brown and completely soggy and cooked to death. The veggies were practically unrecognizable. They were a soggy mess. The chicken had been precooked and thrown on the grill to heat up, so it came out really stiff, burnt and dried out. I cut of the best section for my son, but he spit it out. Wouldn't eat the chicken and he normally loves chicken. I didn't even bother giving him the veggies, which he would normally eat. The rice was really bland, and the smallest portion of rice ever, about a tablespoon full. When we got home, my 18 month old son went into the pantry looking for more food. I certainly didn't blame him. I so wished we had picked a different place. I won't go back there. So to sum it up, the service there is really rude and the food is canned, recooked and gross. Shame they didn't keep their old way of doing things. We're certainly not going back!! When you pay their prices, you expect fresh and yummy. NOT THE CASE!!

I think Baja Beach House is definitely better than your average Chipotle or Moe's, and is probably your best bet for a nice fast casual lunch off the boardwalk. I usually get the burritos, and enjoy trying all of the different kinds of salsas. I consistently take visitors here and they are always pleased! That being said, don't come here for a sit down dinner, as that is definitely not the type of experience the management seems to be going for.

Great place to just hang for a brew...excellent breakfast and snacks. Good traditional Mexican fare and burgers. Been going here for years, friendly and fun!!

Very good breakfast. We had pancakes, eggs, bacon and an omelet at out table and all were excellent. Often, omelets are too greasy, but this one was not as well as being light, fluffy and tasty. Fresh ingredients (it was a western). Baja is a counter-order restaurant, so know that it is not table service. I'd say that is a plus because it was a Saturday and busy and we were in and out in a reasonable time. The pancakes are HUGE! Very well made and tasty. They have a barista-type coffee area and the Mrs said the brew was excellent. The two things that were a little disappointing we're the home fries that come with breakfast-- they were a little bland and dry. The other is that it is a Pepsi place-- I'm a Coke guy. When we are back in town, I'll be back.

Happy hour special: $22 for a pitcher of sangria which was only 3 cups worth. Can't imagine what the regular would be. Soon we were overrun with barefoot lifeguards getting off duty. We left after we finished the pitcher

Baja could easily make itself a four or five star location because the food is delicious. On Labor Day weekend, I stopped in for a late lunch. I was lucky enough to get happy hour pricing (their happy hour runs from 3-6pm). I ordered the southwest chipotle burger and guacamole + chips. I also picked up some salsa from the salsa bar. The burger was delicious and the guacamole was okay (I've had better, and at $6 for a small cupful, it was not really worth it). However, the different salsas from the salsa bar were quite delectable (with unlimited refills). Next time, I will just get the $1 bag of chips and eat the various salsas. On a side note, I got a water cup and was not charged extra like some of the previous yelpers have stated. Baja's biggest problem is that they do not have air conditioning. Sure, they have several ceiling fans, but on a hot summer's day, those do not do enough. It actually felt hotter inside the restaurant than out on the streets of Bethany. Combine that with an inordinate number of flies buzzing about, and it is clear to see how this four and a half star experience dropped down to a three. My recommendation: Get the food and take it out on to the beach or back to your condo.

Not worth the price. Burritos are just ok, queso is terrible do not get it, happy hour margarita tastes like water, they charge for water cups. just not worth spending the money for me

  • Allison P.

We come here for their happy hour specials every time we come to Bethany! My mother enjoys her frozen margarita for $3. My Nana likes the $3 beer. Me - I like it all. The Southwest Chipotle burger for $5 during HH is awesome. And you can choose your salsas to dip your chips in. The ricken fries are on the list of things sent down to Earth for us. OMG. Seriously. From the bacon to the way the fries are cooked to the ranch whatever dipping sauce. Cons - the nachos have gone downhill. As for outdoor seating - no trash bin but yes there are flies. Though I've never been to outdoor dining at the beach that doesn't have flies. I always see the workers here cleaning the tables. We'll keep going - no question.

Admittedly, I did not get the full experience. A quick stop-by on the way out of town hardly does any venue the justice it deserves.Baja Beach House Grill has some seemingly excellent menu options, with both vegetarian and carnivores in mind. I sampled the chorizo, egg, and cheese sandwich from the breakfast menu, to go. The service was good, though the girl at the register struggled with English, and subsequently my question about soft drinks. My sandwich was ready in a reasonable amount of time given that the restaurant was packed full. I was a little surprised that the chorizo on my sandwich was a sliced sausage, which was a little different than I expected, but the flavor was great. Definitely a good breakfast near the beach.

Pricey beach food, adequate in size and quality, but not worth what we paid for lunch for 2. Two fish tacos, a steak quesadilla, 2 soft drinks, chips and salsa (not complementary. You order at counter and staff brings food to the table. We could have had a full Mexican dinner at many places for that price with full service wait staff, free chips and salsa and a more pleasing ambiance. Just OK.

  • Andrea C.

Only 2-3 places for breakfast after 6-7 AM yoga at the Bethany bandshell. Cheerful service. My potatoes were hot, the chorizo was spicy, the tortillas were steaming and the scrambled eggs were fluffy. Good coffee, and Van Morrison coming from the speakers. It was a great start to the sunny day. Lunch is unremarkable, though.

Gave it 4 stars based upon my experience is growing up and living in San Diego, where there is great Mexican food everywhere. If this place was in San Diego, it might have gotten 3 stars, but for the East Coast and a small town it was surprisingly pretty good. I would go back, and probably will, since we are here for a week. Got the "Uno Burrito", I tihnk. Basically a fajita burrito. Chips and salsa were good. My wife said she loved her burrito, beans and cheese, for the vegetarian I married. There are some seriously bad reviews for many of the other places in town. For pizza, someone in another review said to check out Milk & Honey, just passing it along. Will probably check that place out. NOTE: the one bad review talked about the chips and cheese. We didn't get that but I believe it. I would never get fish tacos on the East Coast, unless the reviews were "en fuego". Get the chicken!!!

The worst restaurant in Bethany. Steak taco had burnt fatty tough meat with some shredded cabbage and a dash of something like Cheese Whiz. Could not eat it. Do not waste your money.

  • Brian R.

Everyone in our group enjoyed the food. Service was decent given the high volume on a mid-summer day. The dining room was in dire need of a cleaning, but I think you'll do better here than most other places on the boardwalk.

This review is from my wife: My sister, two nephews, and I ate here last night. The concept was promising, but we should have known the lack of patrons was a sign. We had a coupon for free chips and queso. The chips were boring, and the queso tasted like it was pumped form one of those cheese dispensers at a movie theatre. It was foul. I got the 2-fish taco combo. The grilled fish was edible, but the fried fish was horrible. It tasted frozen and fishy. The meal came with rice and beans, which were absolutely flavorless. Even salt would have been helpful. The salsas on the salsa bar also lacked flavor. My sister got the steak burrito which was heavier on huge chunks of green peppers than steak. The best food item we got was the cheese quesadilla for my 4 year old nephew. Warning: if this rating doesn't deter you and you decide to try this place, do not eat outside. There are flies and the patio is directly adjacent to their trash bin. The smell was overwhelming, and we had to move to avoid feeling sick during our meal. Unfortunately, we all had stomachaches afterwards anyway...

Luckily for us it was happy hour and they offered their tacos for $2. I got one of each the steak, shrimp, and grilled fish. Immediately they received kudos for using the corn tortillas over the flour and making sure to sprinkle fresh cilantro inside each taco. They have a little salsa bar and unfortunately, none of them were anything special. But the tacos were satisfying.

Their Mexican food is pretty good and certainly is the only contender for this niche in Bethany. They have a lot of tradition Mexican dishes and some good frozen margaritas. It certainly reminds me a lot of Baja Fresh, the chain, with their salsa bar and similar menu items. It's locally run though, which is nice.

  • Ryan W.

This place is pretty good for lunch in Bethany. Let's face it, there's not much that is a relatively healthy option in Bethany, so all things considered, it's as good as it gets on this little strip of real estate.

    (4)
  • Sam L.

There's nothing remarkable about this place, but the food is pretty much what you'd expect to get on the boardwalk. Think of it as Baja Fresh's cousin and you'll be good. The shrimp is a little tasteless and the steak can be dry, so play it safe and get something with chicken instead.

  • Anne B.

We were hoping for something more than what we found. Having perused the menu we were hoping for some really fresh, really awesome Mexican, and were really excited about the salsa bar. Though everything we got was decent, nothing wowed, and the salsas were pretty bland. The chips were pretty bland and seemed less than fresh. Drinks are incredibly expensive as well. Cheaper if you go from 4-6 for happy hour. We have had better at qdoba, which is just disappointing.

    (3)
  • Brian A.

My wife, 8year-old and I ate here tonight and were pretty disappointed. My chicken taco was tasteless and the tortilla was dry and tough. My wife didn't like her taco either, and even my son complained about the lack of cheese on his quesadilla. Don't bother with this place.

  • Kat Z.

Horrible, horrible experience! We had no choice but to go here, as myself and our 20 month old son were absolutely starving and all the other places had a 45 minute wait....we should have waited!!! The place was absolutely disgusting...I understand they are busy and get a lot of kids and customers...but it was unacceptable! There was food and flies everywhere, and the salsa stand looked unclean and the salsa was lukewarm. The bathrooms were a mess. It seriously looked like a dive bar at last call, not a "family-friendly" beach taco house. They are trying to do something similar to the chain Baja Fresh but they are far worse. The food was tasteless, bland, and my fish taco wasn't fresh. Being 7 months pregnant, I didn't want to take a chance and didn't eat much (and this is RARE). My husband was excited about getting his burrito...but he said that even Taco Bell has more flavor. To top it all off, the place was staffed with some rude young workers, who gave us attitude because we settled at a table first and didn't go in to order, but instead asked for a high chair..... And they were BLARING random rock music, that made it hard to hear anything and added to the disorganized and hectic feel of the place. Bottom line: never again. Unsanitary, nasty, and a total family rip-off. Stay away!!!!

  • Martin B.

The food here is quite good if not a bit expensive for what it is. It's a lot like baja fresh: you order, they make it, you take it. I got the "muchos tacos" platter which is three tacos along with chips and guac. I got three fish tacos and they were great. The fish itself was fried well, and the garnish (especially the salsa) was also tasty. The chips were rather bland though, but the guacamole came to the rescue. The folks with me all enjoyed their meals as well (nachos, quesadillas, and steak tacos). Definitely a good place to go to if you're craving Mexican. Just bring some good money, because it's not exactly cheap (I think it was around $10 a person).

    (4)
  • Rob C.

Mexican food, burgers and seafood sandwiches are offered up at this counter service joint within walking distance of the boardwalk at Bethany Beach. The quesadillas were too greasy, the chicken tacos overloaded with onions and the prices far too high for the quality and quantity of food that you get. If you are desperate for lunch on the main drag in Bethany, you won't starve here, but you could do much better at Five Guys just a couple of doors down.
