First time we tried this place, we got menudo to go and I must say the flavor was great! The only complaint we have about the menudo was that the tripe was way too big, we couldn't eat a lot of it because the big pieces weren't bite size at all. Other than that the place is clean the flavor was great and the owners were nice!

I was eagerly waiting to try this place based on other Yelpers. After their kitchen fire repairs, they have finally opened. The only good thing I can say about the place is that the service is good. They do not have soft chili rellenos, their food has no spice to it, I asked for a bean burrito no cheese, and of course it comes with cheese, the rice is bland, the salsa tastes jarred, the ice tea is actually ice tea flavored water. They don't even have a green chili plate dish on their menu, that is like going to a Chinese restaurant and not finding sweet and sour chicken or shrimp (whats up with that)?

Eh not great but not horrible. Typical authentic Mexican food. Very hot inside. The menu is completely in Spanish and the guy at the front speaks very little English but that's fine and adds to the experience! Tacos are good. Enchiladas are good. Burrito is good. Nothing great. The salsa bar has jalapeño carrots which is way too spicy so is the Pico de gallo. Kind of seems like you will get food poisoning from here but it's been three days and nothing yet so I guess it's good. Probably wouldn't go back.

This is the prototypical sketchy Mexican joint, but if you love Mexican, you'll know that these places usually are the best. During my urge for some authentic Mexican, I found this place thanks to my fellow Yelpers. It is located in a run-down strip mall and it was completely empty when we arrived. To add even more reluctance to my visit, there were a few children dressed in Mexican wrestling masks wrestling with each other! Nevertheless, we entered. The server was VERY eager to help and serve. Her English was just fine as was her attitude. I tried a sampler of tacos - crazy cheap. All the meats were outstanding and had a lot of flavor. Would definitely go here again!

Ok I've been here about 5 times this year and found it from reading my fellow yelpers reviews. It's not to far from where I live and easy to get too, but not so easy to find if you don't know what to look for. It's stuck in a rundown small what seems abandoned shop area, but worth the visit. After I tried this place for dinner, I was in Love with the al pastor and carbon. They were delicious and the prices are like dirt cheapt! I loved the salsa and we ordered. I was hooked. My only gripe was that about 3x's on a lunch break in btw classes I would drive down here and all times were closed and it was 11:30am or right before 12. It was on the way so I decided to just see if they were open. Finally I started to call and ask what time they open in the morning. I was always told 11am, but that's never the case when I visit. So I go after 12pm AFTER I call to see if they're open. They are very worth the visit and wait. The last time I went I put in a to go order and swear it would've been almost $50 bucks, but it was only 22 bucks!.. I order a bunch of the al pastor and carbons a la cart and a few other things I can't remember. I have to say I love their food and even and a few tacos that were delicious, but the al Pastor is to die for IMO.. Since coming back from vacation and swamped w/school work I've been too lazy to make the drive, but I think I'm over due for my Pastor Binge.. I literally dreamt of this place last night which is what prompted me to write this review that was over due. Now mind you this is a DIVE all the way and it's known for really cheap and delicious food so it's not a date place nor for pretentious people, but it is someplace that's a must for those who like this food.

Breakfast burrito was pretty good. Nothing exciting. I would go back if I was already in that area but would dive more than a few miles to it. Cost for 1 medium sized burrito was $4. Not bad at all.

What a great little find, it's been by my house for years and I never thought twice about going each time I drove by. The two times I have been here were both pretty awesome. The first time I ordered the steak burrito and the steak was cooked and cut perfect! The second time I did the chicken tacos and it was surprisingly good as well as most places can ruin chicken with ease it seems like. the little lady and her husband that run the place are very friendly and very helpful with then menu as well

Lucky find. Lucky find indeed. Been to many Mexican laces in Denver area and this place does good food. Every time I have been in (twice), I received fast friendly service and tasty food. The salsa is darn good which you cannot say at most places in Denver. Oh as another yelp'er noted, the al pastor is very good. If you eat meat, you should give it a try. Well done Toluca.

Drove over there last weekend and not only were they closed so was the whole little strip plaza :( signs on their front windows said closed due to fire, I hope the fire didn't spread to the two other stores...

I usually don't like to review a place until I've visited it at least twice, but I will make an exception for this little hidden gem because I think they deserve to have more people know about them. I tried two kinds of tacos - the al pastor and the al carbon. The al carbon was good - it had a tangy mix of chopped jalapenos in the taco that made it quite spicy (this is a good thing!). The al pastor, however, was incredible! Delicious, crispy bits of shaved pork with fresh cilantro, onion and pineapple. The complimentary chips & salsa were very good too. I especially loved the little bite sized chips! Though little English was spoken, the service was great - our server knew enough for anyone who doesn't speak a bit of Spanish to get by just fine. There are pictures on the menu, so if all else fails, just point! The restaurant is warmly decorated. There wasn't any ranchera music being played on the night we visited, but Univision's nightly news cast was playing on the TV instead. The decor was warm and inviting. The bar has a nice selection of tequilas - next time I visit, I plan to walk so I can indulge them! The one thing the owners can do to improve the place, and I highly recommend they do, is change the name, perhaps to the same name as their catering operation, El Taco Divino. It's a great name, VERY appropriate considering how good that al pastor was and would draw attention to the catering business as well. I live in the area and had visited Toluca several years ago. It was pretty grungy and the food was mediocre at best. The new owners have improved both aspects considerably and they should change the name so people who were familiar with the old place give them a fresh look. It is only because I saw the other great reviews on Yelp that I even considered returning. I'm so glad I did, because I now have a new neighborhood favorite that I know I will return to again!

Good authentic food, good flavor, fresh ingredients, excellent service. Gabby is very attentive and takes very good care of us! Food is a good solid 6, almost a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale, 10 being the best. The tamales are good (a bit small), great when smothered with the red enchilada sauce. Great seafood tacos... The salsa is good, pretty hot, will try other dishes there soon...

Extensive menu and the more esoteric items are the ones you will want to sample. Family run. An unassuming location (to say the least), but quality food at a fair price. Certainly better for carry out than dining in. (Sadly it is currently closed due to a fire. Hope it reopens soon.)

Craving Mexican food, my family and I decided to stop here for our fix. The word 'authentic' doesn't seem to give this place justice... Everything was Mexicana. The waitress (who spoke little English, but hey, it IS a Mexican restuarant), was very friendly and helpful. The food was great and it came in large portions. It seemed relatively busy for the neighborhood it is in, and there were many families coming in and out of the establishment. I would definitely recommend this joint for your next Mexican food craving. And you can't beat the hot chicks on Spanish channels (which are on the TV)... Just saying.

I gave this place a try because reviewers said the al pastor tacos were good. Unfortunately I did not find that to be the case. The pork was incredibly dry. The pineapple was too sour. The salsas were gross. I love that this place is run by a timid but friendly family. It's such a shame that the food sucks. If the awkward location doesn't keep you away, the food sure will.

The barebones décor, terracotta-colored walls, the handful of unusual bottles of tequila over the "bar," and ranchera music played at a volume that makes most Anglos uncomfortable all evoke the down-at-the-heels restaurants one finds on the long road from El Paso to Guadalajara. The owner is from Guadalajara, but the cuisine is more Mexico City-style. Menudo, Fajitas, Pollo Asado, Huevos Rancheros, Pescado, and dozens of other dishes are shown on posters stuck to the front windows. The menu contains these same photos, so you know exactly what you're getting. The food is mostly fresh and ridiculously cheap (beware: some of the dishes are too greasy). But this is not the cheap "microwave Mexican" found in the vast majority of places around here, however. Melt-in-your-mouth flour tortillas come out of the kitchen too hot for a 3-year-old. Many types of cerveza are available in the coolers in the front and back of the restaurant. The service is friendly and fast. This is not a location for a date... the place is in a run-down strip next to a dog groomer. This is a small, family-run joint, but big enough for a large group if you put some of the tables together. Take a friend, grab a booth, swill too much cerveza and enjoy some real Mexican food in suburban Colorado.

The location is not so good but if you can get past the look of the building, the food is as good as it gets. Thefish tacos are fantastic and so is everything else we have eaten. This is truly an undiscovered treasure when it comes to mexican food.

This has got to be the most obscure location ever. It's in a bizzare shop row that looks half-condemned. The only reason I know anything is there at all is because I used to buy roasted chilies at a temporary stand in that vicinity. The folks there barely speak English, but are about as friendly as they get. There always seems to be a colorful cast of characters watching Spanish soap operas or soccer. The food is yummy, cheap and plentiful, and the wonderful greasy breakfast burritos are fresh and melt in your mouth. I wish I were ten years younger and could adsorb this type of food with less determent to my weight.

Fantastic authentic Mexican food. Found it purely by accident actually heading to another restaurant. This place is legit and the food is great. The al Pastore tacos are amazing. Great secret spot that is a must if your in the area.

I recently tried Toluca for the first time and was very impressed. The dishes here seem more authentic than a typical tex-mex restaurant. I tried the tacos al pastor and was very satisfied. I was not a big fan of the salsa, but they offer others like chipotle and jalapeno with their dishes. They have a large, reasonably priced menu, and I will definitely be back to try more.

I desperately want to like this place more than I do! A paid food critic friend of mine told me to go check out their al pastor tacos and so I did. Wow, must have been an off day? I won't hesitate to give a place a mediocre rating after just one visit, but I will update a review once I've made it back and change the rating accordingly. But with the great reviews from friends of mine for Toluca I went back again before I wrote this review. There are other things on the menu that I need to try but once again I ordered the al pastor tacos. They were good like on my previous visit but... where is the juiciness under the crisp? The spark of flavor from the spices? I asked for pineapple and didn't get it but I don't mind that if pineapple is present in the marinade enough to taste it in the cooked meat. Pina didn't come through. The people are nice, the cook came out to check on us, the place just feels right but.... maybe after my next visit? Man. I hope so....

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
