If you are in the area for a visit or just driving through, I highly recommend a visit to Steel Horse Grill. We sat on their outside patio enjoying a glass of wine and the great views of the Sangre de Christo Mountains while we waited for our meal to be served. My husband and I both ordered the portobello burger and potato wedges. Both were yummy! I chose the chipotle sauce to top my burger. It was fabulous and it made a great dip for the wedges. My husband also ordered their BBQ beans and said they were some of the best he's ever had! The owners, Ami and Phil, are gracious and welcoming. We really like this place!!

So lucky to have found this little gem. The girls there made us feel so welcomed. The beer was cold, menu was great, and the live music was a fantastic bonus. And the view is not so bad either. 5 Stars!!!

This is kind of a difficult review to write. For Villa Grove, this place brings a nice breath of life to the middle of no where. They built a really nice covered patio and even have live music. However, everything else about it is a bit of a miss. The menu is meat, bread and cheese in various shapes (burgers, chicken sand, ribs, etc). Their idea of vegetables are mushrooms, onions and jalapenos. Not a salad, or even lettuce and tomato garnish, to be found. You order at the counter and then they bring it out. The kitchen always seems like a sinking ship. Orders coming out in pieces, burgers never cooked as ordered, crazy long wait... So, here it is in summary: If you want to enjoy a beautiful summer evening, in the Saguache valley, listening to live music and enjoying a cold one... This is the pace! If you are looking for food (more importantly a vegetable), you might want to head to the cafe up the road.

Best burger in 100 miles from dinner. We thought we were in for a long drive when we missed restaurants in Pancho Springs on our way south. The Steel Horse has a great burger with lots of home made sauces. Try the horse radish mayo. Don't forget the appetizer, try the pepper popper on a stick.

Really delicious food in an area where you assume there are not going to be a lot of choices. This is one of those "thank you Yelp" places, where Yelp saves the day and sends you to a fabulous place you would have had no idea about otherwise. We had the delicious poppers, burgers, mac and cheese and beans. The baked beans and the poppers are very unique - would highly highly recommend. Everything was delicious, although quite rich. Not a whole lot of healthy vegetables going on here, it's more of a calorie splurge.

Great food at this clean little restaurant with a very friendly vibe, great patio and great service. The jalapeño poppers are different than the greasy fried frozen things you get everywhere else - they're skewered fresh ingredients and not to be missed! Even the Mac and cheese is homemade which is a rarity and I appreciate since we order this a lot having kids and Kraft gets old (and I abhore paying $6+ for boxed macaroni). Glad we stopped here by default basically since there was not much around. Almost didn't stop here but glad we did!

Excellent food and service. Stopped by on the way back from camping and were treated to a delicious meal. The burgers are made with ground ribeye, are cooked to order, and were juicy without being overly greasy. The mac and cheese is also stellar. Will be back!

Great sleeper place on 285. Burgers were awsome. The horseradish mayo on the burger was the way to go. Big wedges for potato fries. The cole slaw is light with a honey mustard poppy seed dressing. The Mac and cheese was homemade and great. You should really get the grilled jalapeño poppers. Wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cream cheese, this was fantastic. Not spicy.

Cozy environment, friendly people, breathtaking view, and fantastic food! Couldn't ask for anything better! Such a great surprise in a small town!

The burgers were good, but they did not come with lettuce, tomato, or onion and when we asked for it, we were told they did not have any, their burgers are not served that way. For being their signature, it wasn't the best burger ever and was very plain.

Seven of us came upon this place after climbing the Sand Dunes! The location is perfect, the food is delicious and the owners and staff are all kind and wonderful. The prime rib burgers were especially awesome. All the food is definitely "whole food," which means to me, the highest quality of ingredients which just make for a super satisfying meal. Make sure you schedule this restaurant on your itinerary when traveling through the area! WE LOVED IT!!!

This place is fantastic! Friendly service, great burgers. Mac & cheese and baked beans were choices for sides. We drive 25 miles just to eat here. Must try!!!

Great roadside joint in Villa Grove. Eclectic menu and attentive service. Our server Jodi was pleasant and knew a lot about the area which was helpful. The owner was very gracious and turned us on to a few good areas to hunt elk. Full service bar would be nice but the small selection of Colorado grapes was a nice touch. Food was very good. Ribs, mac -n-cheese, portabello sandy and the meatballs were a hit. I will be back.

Great burger! Stopped en route to a national park. There was a small line at open. The Mac n cheese is delicious. Burgers are all 100% rib eye. Also have chicken and Portobello options as well. Must stop on 285.

We have a family cabin in this small town for 3 generations so we've seen the businesses come and go. Steel Horse is the real deal you must not miss! Ami and Phil welcome you as friends. Inside is family casual and comfy. Roll of paper towels on the table help you cleanup after their many varied sauces-- we recommend on the Ribs (superb!) and we raise our own cattle for beef so we know the good stuff. Newly designed interior, easy for kids or just a night with hubby. Live music on occasion, call for info. No TV for the sports fan, they said a meal should be enjoyed with those around you---ahh agreed! Check hours- believe they are open May to Oct. Reasonable prices, nice community atmosphere, fast service but not rushed, very enjoyable, not to be missed, a gem of a restaurant at 7,980 elevation looking up at the Sangre de Christo mountain range (11-12k ft).- beautiful!!
