The place was wonderful. The food was different and creative. The chef came out and spoke to us about some of his recipes and was willing to accommodate my lactose issues. The room and the decor is beautiful and calming. It was one of our best dinners in Vail. Actually my husband wanted to go back the next night so he could try one of the other specialty meat dishes!

This used to go by a different name but it seems like the rest of the restaurant is about the same. Food maybe 3-4 stars. Environment I say perhaps 4, they have booths with super high backs so it can provide some privacy. Breakfast buffet is great but expensive. Management team seems to be on top of their stuff.

I would really like to give this place more stars, but unfortunately I can't. The main problem with this place was that it was severely understaffed. Wine wasn't poured on time, the server forgot a few things, and for a $500 meal, we weren't taken care of quite enough. The food, however, was absolutely fantastic. For apps, we ordered the lobster, and gnocchi. For the main courses I had the beef cheeks & lobster. To be honest, it really didn't need the lobster because the beef cheeks completely outshined them, but it was so tender and melted in your mouth. I also tried the bass, as well as the lobster risotto, which was very rich, but delicious. The deserts were out of this world too. We ordered the red velvet cake & the chocolate cake. The red velvet cake was THE BEST red velvet cake I've ever had, hands down. Overall, the presentation of the food was beautiful. The room is stunning, especially with the see-through, circular wine fridge in the middle and Vail mountain in the background. However, the poor server was over worked and didn't have enough help on the floor. He was absolutely great for how thinly he was stretched, but the poor guy needed some help.

This place is NOT GOOD . . . it is FANTASTIC Contrary to a few of the other reviews I have seen, the service was outstanding and the food was even better. The staff coul dnot have been more attentive and the meal was just outstanding. We did the 4 ourse tasting and added the wine tasting to go with each course. At a cost of $100 per person it was well worth it. Each course was better than the last and the wines were fantastic. You have the option to choose your own but we gave the waiter and the beverage manager some creative license and wanted to be surprised. I highly reccomend the Mar y Montana a a main course and save room for the Red Velvet Cake desert (I don't even like Red Velvet but this was amazing!) If you are looking for a great nite out with your spouse or significant other or you are entertaining clients, this place is a MUST. I will be sure to eat here everytime I come back to Vail Joe Sloboda

More proof that hotel restaurants are generally sub-par. We ate late and the restaurant was not crowded but the service was very poor. After we were done eating the hostess balmed the slow service on the fact that the kitchen was busy because they were catering a wedding--not a good excuse. The food was average. We will not return.

I am a fan of this place for breakfast. There is not a buffet, however I am not a fan of $30 buffets in Vail anyway. If you are the Sonnenalp next door has the best on in Vail. If you want everything done extremely well for breakfast, Lenora is the place. They honestly have one of the best huevos rancheros I have ever had.

Leonora, in the Hotel Sebastian, is a great restaurant with tasty food, although service was a bit lacking. I recommend starting with drinks at Frost bar downstairs. It has a fun vibe and plays good music. At Leonora, sharing tapas (small plates) is a great way to go. We especially enjoyed the raw salmon, pulpo, shishito peppers, ceviche, and salad with apples. Our only issue was the service which was erratic and sometimes forgot us for long periods of time.

Wow, who is writing reviews of 5 stars here? Honestly, the only thing I was going to order off this menu (which is a disaster) was the burger. I think the intention of the place is to come across sophisticated and upscale, but they really didn't get anything right. Down to the waiter not understanding our likes/dislikes and giving us a lecture on what we should have on the menu. Couldn't get out fast enough. Further, the "truffle fries" were OK, just OK. 5-Guys has them beat by a mile, as does McDonald's. In fairness, the burger was good, the plating was good, and despite the difficulties we had an ok time. 2 stars, no more.

Very confused with the reviews here. Very. If you aren't a little thrown off at your seating from the size of your wine glass, let alone saddened by the pittance pour you later receive, then perhaps it was just our "really" response. As in... really?! Surely it gets better from here. It didn't. The food was drenched in salt. Being 8,000 ft in the air, the idea of purposely dehydrating someone with that amount of salt is borderline cruel. We had the brussel tapas to start. We honestly thought it was just a dish that wasn't a particular "hit" for the chef. Surely, better things would come. It's also a dish that is missing the other half. Order one and you'll see what I mean. We then had the gnocchi, which was in a bath of oil. A bath! Salty oil to boot. Another miss on what's usually a safe food play. My wife had the seafood soup (may have been called something more fancy) and for the first time in 8 years she sent back a meal. Bland, without any "power," and shy of any notable highlights. She opted for the shrimp flatbread instead, which was a salty mediocrity at best. Love tapas, love Vail, do not love this place and am at a loss with the reviews. Biggest 4-star miss we have yet had with Yelp. Sorry, folks. This just isn't worth the dollars or time.
(2)Megan G.
Delicious, rich tapas. Lots of options to choose from and I would say something for everything. They have a lot of wine choices that are also displayed in a cool wine case. The cocktails are good. The service was really slow and the table was awkwardly large so the server had to reach over everyone to refill waters, etc. It's in a hotel and the bathroom is pretty far away from the restaurant (compared to most restaurant bathrooms). There did seem to be a child care room down the hall - unsure if this was open to hotel guests only or restaurant patrons in general.
(3)Alexander F.
We have visited this place twice now. Both times the service was expectational. The wine is always great. The tapas are fantastic. We will return to this place if we come to Vail again for our family ski trip. Every time we visit Vail, we review yelp, and I feel any negative reviews are really people being too critical. When we came to dinner, they were already aware of a birthday for one our guests, and not only provided him with a free dessert, but the chef sent us home with brownies for the family.

Good tapas but I had a terrible meal and the service was bad; I ordered the diver scallops and had a greens salad before that arrived. I asked for fresh ground pepper and the waitress brings me the mill; instead of grinding it for me but that's ok I can do it myself. I grind and grind and nothing comes out; the mill was out of pepper!! Didn't she bother checking it out? Then, the scallops arrive. I was excited but as soon as I cut one in half, a pungent smell of ammonia hit me! Two others had also ordered them and theirs also smelled of ammonia. I cars the waitress and told her; she just looked at me and went to get someone else. No apologies. The other waitress comes and I told her what was going on; she takes the plates and no apologies. She comes back a few minutes later and offers another dish; ordered the pan-seared salmon. It was ok, at least it did not smell. Clearly, the staff has absolutely no manners especially in a place like Vail where everything costs a pretty penny. Not going back.

I would have never known that Leonora existed if it weren't for Yelp. I was searching for a hidden gem where I could escape the crowds. Lo and behold, I found Leonora. And it certainly is hidden, the front desk agent even insisted on escorting us there. Apparently people get lost, well, maybe not if you enter the back way but whatever. It was quiet the night that we went but the atmosphere is lovely and it was nice to relax in a quiet place after a long day's work. We started with the scallop crudo which was light and refreshing. My friend ordered the calamari, which was the absolute best calamari I've ever had. Light, delicate and not even remotely greasy. I usually don't care much for calamari but I couldn't stop eating these. So good. For dinner, I had the halibut, which was very good as well. The standout of the evening for me was the sommelier. He made a visit to our table, sat down and chatted with us for awhile about different types of sherry. He even brought us a few tasters so that we could choose the perfect one for us. I really liked that he took the time to find out what we were looking for and even give us some background on our choices. It put a personal touch on the service which I liked. I would definitely go back to Leonora. Especially if I'm looking for a peaceful evening.

This was one of several restaurants my wife and I tried during our week in Vail. Food was decent, service was great, but unfortunately it paled in comparison to everywhere else we ate. We tried the octopus, curried cauliflower, and fried olives for appetizers. The cauliflower was delicious, the octopus was cooked perfectly but we weren't crazy about the sauce and accompaniments, and the olives were a miss. I had the lamb, which was prepared well, but nothing memorable. The punchline is at this price point and below there are better options in Vail.

I agree, this place is really a hidden gem. We've eaten here twice late at night and the staff really does care. The sous chef came out a couple of times and we really enjoyed talking with him. They really care about their food. We had a big sampling the first time from the wagyu beef to their amazing risotto with summer truffles to their Colorado cherry dessert. Loved each one and took lots of photos. Plus they have a terrific wine list. We went a second time and it was just as nice. Coming at 9PM on a weekday during the summer is like having your own staff. And like the rest of the Sebastian, they are super friendly and geniuine. Can't wait to try the winter menu! The ambiance by the way is wonderful. It is built around a glass enclosed circular wine cellar and beautiful appointments. Wonderful and romantic.

Had a fantastic meal here last night. Located in the swank Hotel Sebastian ( was told FLOTUS and her girls stayed here last year) this restaurant is newly branded with the Chef from Terra Bistro - so no wonder it was delicious. The room is beautiful and comfy. Front desk staff was attentive and our server Charlie rated a ten, easily. We had lobster, scallops, pasta and greens. Greens, typically a bit overpriced and dull even at the best restaurants, were note worthy. A huge bowl with a thin slice of yummy cheese as garnish and exceptional dressing had a remarkable variety of vegetation, including kale - like every leaf was hand picked. Didn't touch the bread but it looked made in house and disappeared. Scallops looked nicely done - the portion a good size. Pasta with a poached egg in a unique sauce got gobbled up by two of us. Lobster tail entree was a small, lady sized portion with spinach gnocchi in an amazing butter sauce with hot peppers and garlic. I avoid butter sauces always but this was so perfectly done I wanted every drop. Considering going back to the bar for tapas. Ditto the two other hotel bars, both of which looked amazing.

Beautiful establishment with an amazing wine list! We had a party of 8 that was taken care of very well. The lamb filet, duck, and lobster entrees were perfect. All appetizers were lovely. Beignets are a must for dessert! This will be a pricey meal, but it is worth the splurge! Only word of advice.... Stay away from the paperadelle. Its an underwhelming butter noodle dish with some filberts thrown on top to make it seem like an adult meal. 2/8 people that ordered this were very disappointed. I was obviously not one of them, so 5 stars!

From NYC - visited Frisco - went to Vail for dinner one night. Compared to the not so good restaurants in Frisco, this was great! Though it lacks character (in a hotel), the food was above average and the service was good. My family and I came here around 8:30pm on a Saturday and it was dead, but it was the off season in July. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants an upscale dinner, but that doesn't totally break the bank and has good atmosphere.

dinner at the sebastian vail...private room reservation...bottle of wine to sip before browsing menu...and, another...olive bread variety with olive oil complimentary...good quality in bread and oil...order of various small plates...few entrees to share...and, another bottle of wine...and, another...starting with tapas...the potatoes were scallop shaped and simple...bit too boring and tasteless....the shrimp ajillo also not good...tiny micro shrimp and equally boring...everything fried is always good?...true at leonora...fried rice balls delicious...croquettas devine...tempura cauliflower tasty...octopus wasn't fried, but quite tender and flavorful...pork belly good...pappardelle is excellent...large wide flat noodle pasta...lightly sauced and rich simple flavors...but, eggplant rollatini was too bland and tasteless...sliced lamb was good, but nothing special...get the duck confit!...duck confit was crispy, tender and moist deliciousness...endless bottles of wine to wash down all food...waiter quite busy delivering, chilling and opening the whites...open and empty quickly...overall, a good dinner with variety and plenty of wine...roughly $100 per person for indulgence in food and wine...

I have written this review and given my rating based upon the price point and caliber this restaurant has obviously placed itself in as one of the priciest spots in Vail. I have been frequenting Vail restaurants with my family for over 20 years now, and I reveled in the chance to try the spot that took the place of Block 16 less than 2 years ago. I enjoy the dining experiences and values of Red Lion to Up the Creek, Sweet Basil and Terra Bistro as my 99% chance of success on expectations meeting value and experience. Leonora didn't hit the mark on any of those factors. With a $400 tab for a dinner for 5, I would expect more. Upon learning they have blue cheese stuffed olives, I ordered my staple martini in accompaniment. To my chagrin, I learned via the Valdez reenacting oil slick on the top of my martini that these were store-bought olives stored in vegetable oil. Not impressed. Now, before you see me as a COMPLETE snob, I love my martinis in preparation to my meal. In hindsight I should have had at least 2 more as my squid salad although exotic seeming, resolved itself as an everyday salad with bits of squid. Still not impressed. And the lamb? It was lamb that must have been raised in the ocean with the extra helping of salt it tasted like it came with. Oh, and the side of sweet potato dumplings? Call them pumpkin pie dumplings if you care to be more accurate. Seriously.. was the food good? Heck yeah the food was good. the food at the Red Lion is "good." So is the food at Los Amigos. But for the price point? This food Better damn well be spot-on and memorable. And the only marker in my memory for this spot is "never to return."

It is a hidden gem right now, we went in over Xmas holidays and it was quiet from 5 thru 8. It did start getting crowded later in true tapas spirit. So if all other places are crowded when the lifts close, head over here. You will be greeted by "tap or bottled water" which I hate but I really love the ambiance in this place and don't expect much in Vail, hence the 4 stars. The cheese plate was cold and they gave us the wrong items 2x, but like I said we still enjoyed being there and the tapas was great.
(4)Amy G.
Always love this place, outstanding food (love the lamb and must try all the desserts)and talented Sommelier, Ian Gray picked great. Great service.

By far the best meal we had in Vail! Tasty tapas, delicious and eclectic flavors, excellent wine selection and nice ambience - comfy, soft interior and many of the tables busy but not overly loud. Leonora has really found its footing with terrific cuisine and solid, helpful staff who are knowledgable but not too stuffy. We fell for the rich and tangy fried olives, loved the surprising variety of the crudo (deliciously zippy, spicy salmon), and our lamb was accompanied by perfectly crunchy fresh veggies that tasted like they had come right out of the garden. Chef Sergio stopped by for a nice chat. His enthusiasm for the restaurant's new and more playful concept must be paying off - customers from all the tables surrounding us were clearly enjoying their evening. We definitely did! Look forward to another visit in the future. And don't miss out on the chocolate pop rocks - a little fun to end an evening!
(5)Sam H.
Excellent service and a nice atmosphere. The food is of good quality, though not every item on the menu is available during the skiing off season. The only drawback is accessibility; the Leonora is not located on Vail's main promenade. Overall a very worthwhile dining experience.

Leonora is in the Sebastian and has only been open for about 2 years or so. It's more tapas style and is a nice change to the French and Italian dominated food scene in the village. We started off at the bar where Sara took great care of us. She knew the wines really well and also had great food recs. The cocktails are all her own creations, and the Pama royal (pomegranate and champagne), elixir 16 (St Germaine, citrus, fresh berries, prosecco), and antioxidant (vodka, berries, basil) were all done really well. Most of the menu is meant to be shared tapas style, but the entrees are a bit more substantial, and I really wanted to try a flatbread, but it was too big and we had too much food (next time!) Dishes: - Scallop crudo: probably the most creative scallop I've had. It was sliced thinly, raw, very fresh, topped with a thin layer of vanilla sugar brûlée (like creme brûlée but with a scallop). The kick from the jalapeño and tartness of citrus balanced out the sweetness nicely - Tempura cauliflower with curry sauce , dusted with cumin, tons of flavor - Arancini truffle cheese on top, lightly crisped, with melted cheese inside, impressive texture on the risotto (it still tasted like risotto on the inside, whereas many arancinis I've had are dried out inside.) - Paparadelle: unlike the other dishes, this was quite under seasoned. The yolk on the egg wasn't as runny as I had hoped, and I couldn't taste the truffle. It was much better with salt and pepper, and the nuts at the bottom added a nice crunch. However, the dish was way too greasy for me - Lobster tail: tender, loved the thinly sliced caramelized onions underneath. The accompanying gnocchi had a nice sear. - Pulpo: nicely grilled octopus with a good char, served on top of lentils and a potato purée They were very gracious to hold our reservation as we were super delayed by the closure of I70w (surprise surprise). I had a syncopal episode halfway through dinner, and everyone was very concerned and nice about it. I just feel bad about the medical emergency.

My girlfriends and I had not really heard of Leonora but what we had was great. So we decided to try it out for girls night out. First we started with drinks at Frost. Everyone tried a different cocktail and I went with the Basil Manhattan which was tasty just not very much my style. Considering how long it took for drinks to return to our table and after having one spilled into my boot as well as the waitress giving us one bill then bringing another $20 more expensive because gratuity was included it was a little ridiculous. Once up in the restaurant, we decided on wine, tapas and appetizers. The Pinot we ordered was delicious and 3 bottles went fast amongst 8 of us. As for food half of us split the following besides the bread brought to the table, Fried Olives, Tempura, Pork Belly, Parmesan Consomme and Prosciutto and Asparagus as well as a bit of a friends Mushrooms Flatbread. Everything was delectable however I could pass on the olives and Tempura next time not because they were bad but they didn't strike me enough to want again. Out waiter Ben was fantastic and because we were such a large group, we were in a private room where we had our own music control as well as the lighting. The dinner ran me about $56 which to me was agreeable think of all the wine and the wonderful quality of the food and service. None the less this is a once and a while dinner definitely worth trying.

This restaurant has some serious firepower in the kitchen churning out meals that are really memorable. I encourage anyone looking for a fantastic nite out to do so here. You won't be disappointed, only wondering when you'll come back to try something else on their terrific menu. So, you know the score on Vail restaurants - overpriced, fussy food that doesn't quite live up to it's ambitions, etc...But, Leonora truly does good on making fantastic food. We had a choice to either go the tapas/small plate/appetizer route, or go the big plate route - we chose small plates, and struck gold. The fried olive appetizer, aranchini, and the cauliflower were out of this world good. The cauliflower is truly a standout! Crispy, light feel, and a tinge of salty bite are such a sublime combo. All quite filling, and I'm glad I ordered the grilled squid salad for my entree, aggressive dressing and nicely balance with grilled squid, mandarin oranges, and other bits o' goodness. We also ordered up the mushroom flatbread, which was wonderful, but we were too full to truly enjoy it. It's very easy to over order, so you may want to creep up on your plate orders, or prepare yourself to leave with a take-away box. Drink recommends? - the Elixer #? will transport you to your best memories of summertime porch sittin'. Try this place, you will have a blast.

This is a hidden gem in Vail! We have eaten at most of the top ranked places in Vail (according to yelp) and this was our number one favorite. We liked it so much that we ate dinner here two nights in a row! The wine list is extensive with something for everyone. The flavor combinations are very innovative; don't be afraid to try something new! The pork belly, Uni, and Carnaroli Risotto were delicious. The Steelhead, Duck, and Lamb were some of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The service and ambiance were both excellent, romantic atmosphere with impeccable presentation and attentiveness. Our waiter was excellent and not at all pretentious. He gave wonderful recommendations for dishes to order. The Chef was also kind enough to stop by our table both nights. If you only splurge on one dinner in Vail make it at Block 16. If you can, eat here twice, you won't be disappointed.
(5)Kim G.
Amazing, one of the very best in Vail! We dined at Block 16 twice, once a year since we discovered it. Will always eat there when in Vail.
(5)Alex G.
Hugely disappointed. Was very excited to take a friend here and the evening was pretty much a let down. I have to say the restaurant is beautiful, but as many people stated here it was "crickets" quiet. I'd say the place was at 10% occupancy. First issue is that after the server assured us our soups were on the way, 30 minutes later our entrees came out with no soups. Server apologized and said they were never put in. Yes, thats right, after reassuring us twice they were on the way, apparently they were never put in. When my steak did arrive, it was overcooked, and absolutely minuscule. Mind you it was not a filet mignon either, so I was expecting something a little more. It was actually quite embarrassing with such a tiny piece of meat on a big plate. There was a drop of something underneath the steak which frankly was too small to even figure out what it was. The fries, reminded me of something you'd get from a fast food place. My friend ordered a flat bread, which was overly doughy, and lacked flavor. We saved ourselves further disappointment and skipped dessert to head elsewhere. FYI poor service is an epidemic in Vail, due to the resorts being too cheap to hire proper staff or properly train them. Choose carefully while in town to avoid wasting your money and the disappointment.

Food lovers must eat here!... We have dined at every reputable restaurant in Vail over the last six years and we can say that Block 16 (in the Sebastian Hotel) is tied for number one with the newly opened Matsuhisa. Chef Ezra Duker is a master in the kitchen and is both charismatic and charming at the tableside. Every dish we had on our two visits to the restaurant (one is not enough!) was prepared with the highest quality ingredients and with the level of skill and attention to detail that one would expect to experience at restaurants like the French Laundry (incidentally, Chef Duker informed us that he trained with Thomas Keller). Dishes were innovative and flavors expertly balanced, as amply demonstrated in the incredible poached uni with black truffle and marble potato foam. The white truffle Carnaroli risotto was the best risotto we have ever tasted (and we have tasted too many to count). The service staff was warm, friendly and competent; the sommelier was generous with his time and gave excellent wine recommendations. While we would agree with some other reviewers that the ambience does not match the sophistication and quality of the food, this imbalance should not discourage anyone from experiencing this culinary gem. DO NOT MISS IT!!!

I ate here over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. We decided that we wanted to eat somewhere new, since we always eat in the same places in the valley. Overall, I can only give this place three stars- I am glad we ate there but I would probably not go back. The Food: It was hit or miss. My mother decided to go for the White Truffle Risotto ($75). It was hands down the best risotto I have ever had in my entire life. They covered the entire top of the dish with shaved white truffles, simply amazing. However, everything else was just okay. The Waygu beef was over cooked, the duck was good but not as flavorful as you expect, and the lamb was just fine. Nothing was spectacular, considering the price and the attention this restaurant has recieved. The Service: The service was good, but it should have been since there were only about 3 tables in the entire restaurant on a Saturday night on a holiday weekend. The place was completely empty... which leads me to the next point. Ambiance: The restaurant is beautiful and quite intimate and it is inside the Sebastian, which is beautiful. However, because we were one of three tables in the whole place the restaurant lacked a certain "buzz", it was so quiet... like crickets quiet. I just couldn't understand why the place was so empty- the night before we had tried to get reservations at several places in the Vail Village and they were all booked up, so I was suprised to see the place so quiet. I guess the good news is that we got to easily pick the time for our reservation. My suspicion is that this place won't last long, so if you want to try it out you should probably go this year.

Our plane came in late and we were starving!! When we checked into the hotel, the front desk employee suggested that we try Leonara which was located inside The Sebastian. The service we received was not up to par. Our server named Blake seemed like he just wasn't into his job and didn't really want to be serving us. When asked a question, his response would be very short and not helpful in any way, shape or form. Now onto the food.....I understand that this is a small plate restaurant but the quality of food for what they are charging is ridiculous!!! SO OVERPRICED for what you are getting and not that good anyway. One of people I was with ordered a mushroom flatbread pizza and there was hardly any mushrooms and slim to NONE cheese. It was mostly dough on a plate. This restaurant and it's management team should take a few tips from the crew at Kelly Liken next door from the hotel. Now that is what I call exceptional service and quality!!! Sayonara Leonara

a-ok. exactly. I mean this place serves pretty decent food. It should probably get 3.5 stars or 4 in Vail term. But just because all the other places are bad, doesn't justify giving this point 4 stars. It's OK. prices are high (same as the rest of vail). Service was fine. Could be better, our waitress wasn't really knowledgable about the menu. Cocktails are good. Definitely try it if you are in Vail, but don't expect too much.
(3)Emily W.
We tried this place for the first time last night and it was great! I absolutely loved the decor and the staff was super friendly and accommodating! The food was also great, though my parents' salmon dishes came with some unexpected spicy red peppers not advertised on the menu (our server told us that sometimes the chef makes spontaneous additions like that so beware). Also, my cioppino was a little small, but overall the food was delicious, the service was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely recommend trying it out! (I've also heard great things about the bar, Frost, downstairs, though I myself have not tried it.)
(4)Krista B.
Absolutely loved the restaurant and the staff! Kevin, the catering and events manager happened to be at the valet area and gave us a tour of The Sebastian. He brought us right to the restaurant where, Daniel, our server was quick to greet us and provided excellent service. Food was amazing and we will definitely be back to stay.

Go see Sarah, the super fun bartender. Our drinks were superb, and Sarah was the best! Don't miss her signature martinis.
