Wonderful service, prices, and food. New favorite sushi place! They let us split the lunch special between two people. All you can eat sushi for 9.95. We got three rolls and spilt them. Insanely cheap price for all you can eat sushi. If we did more then 3 rolls in the all you can eat sushi I think we would have to each do the special. Still an incredibly low price either way! Out server was also really nice and when we walked in I think we received "hellos" from everyone on the staff. It was a nice environment to eat in.

Whole Foods has better Sushi than this place. I had the spider roll, the tempura was soggy and tasted watery, like the crab had been frozen and recently thawed. I prefer eating fresh sushi and not frozen sushi. I guess thats why they are open all day until 9pm. Because they don't have to prep anything. They just take it out if the freezer.

I was incredibly dissatisfied by my experience here. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, and not only did it lack flavor and only have a small side of sauce to pour on the heavily breaded chicken, But then I found a long hair in my food. When I asked to have it remade the waitress was rude and didn't say a word to me, then when she brought me the new plate there was another hair in my food. My fiancé showed the waitress and she said "no there isn't" then walked away. I was incredibly shocked by the rudeness of the staff and the low quality food. I would never return and advice others to save their money and go elsewhere.

Four solid stars! First time I had ever been in everyone was SUPER FRIENDLY!! Very nice and clean! The waitress was very attentive I will go back! This was the second time in my life I've has sushi and it was DELICIOUS! Had the all you can eat, I had the California rolls and the Las Vegas roll. I think the California rolls could've been colder so I subtract a star for that! The Las Vegas roll was amazing!! The sweet sauce they too it with Mmmmm!!!! Another thing that was very helpful and friendly is that they gave me chop stick helpers. Because I cannot use chop sticks to save my life!!! Also they forgot to add the hot sauce on my friends rolls so they gave him an extra roll on the house! There just kept feeding us!! The only negative thing I can say was that the California rolls were not cold enough. And I was under the impression that you only got one thing at a time not like six rolls. That is my fault (being that I'm a sushi virgin) I recommend this place if you're ever in the area YUM!!!

I would not eat here again. The servers seemed unorganized and confused running around in circles. My husband ordered the Mongolian beef which had no flavor and my spicey tuna roll had way too much rice. When I attempted to unroll the sushi to eat only the fish my fingers turned a little red and when i looked closer I realized it was food coloring. I couldn't believe it! Im glad I didnt get sick and they should be too!

I was pleasantly surprised after not having been here for a while. It seems the ownership has changed...for the better! The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and the sushi was excellent and sashimi portions were generous. I was impressed by the presentation as well. What's more is they offer an entire Chinese selection of food as well - the other tables food looked great. We had the wonton soup for an appetizer and it was probably the best I've ever had. If you haven't been here for a while, give it another try and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised as we were.

We have come at least once a week since it opened. So happy to finally have a GREAT sushi restaurant in Rock Creek! The service is amazing--like service should be and the food keeps us coming back.

First, I would like to address the too much rice reviews and say that I did not notice that at all. Honestly, though, how do you expect them to stay in business if they are giving you off the menu amounts if fish at one quarter the cost? They have to cut somewhere. We actually commented that the rice was perfectly done and not overly sweet or sticky. We've been here twice and thought it was great. Very nice JAPANESE waitresses and sushi chefs. Great ambiance. We hope they stay after what has been nothing but a revolving door in that strip mall! Try the Las Vegas roll and Golden Roll for something really good (and different).

Food is alright, but their online ordering is horrible. I first tried it, selected my items, then register. Waited for about 20 minutes, never received an email so I could confirm my account. I called them and ordered over the phone. food was alright, but it took me 30 minutes to get an order in. 20 min to wait for an email that I never got, then calling them, explain the issue, then placing order. A few weeks later I wanted to order from the again. I went online and register. Bamm, I got the confirmation email right away. I selected my food and placed the order. I then received the confirmation email, but it said for Pick-up. I never saw an option for delivery. I called them to change it from pick up to deliver. They did not know what I was talking about. After letting them know I placed the order online, they told me that they have to wait for a fax to come in(wait what a fax????) don't they have a computer/internet if they are letting people place orders online???(or at least a smart phone with internet) They told me that it takes up to 15 minutes for the fax to come in. I said come on really??? How can I receive an automated email right away about my order, and it cannot get faxed simultaneously with my email? They wanted me to go back online and place the order. I told them "no", I did not want to double order and have 2 meals delivered to my home. They said the order has not gotten to them, so it is OK to order again. I said , wait, it takes 15 minutes for you to receive the fax, I called you within 5 minutes of placing the order, so there is a change that my order will still come in. They said sometimes the orders do not make it to them. Again I said what???? I asked them if the will cancel my original order, send me a confirmation of the cancellation, they said it the order is not in. I guess they were not getting what I was trying to explain. They said place order again, I told them to cancel. Why have online order if it takes than calling or even walking over there. I could walk there faster than the fax can get there. I really hope they figure this out.

He rolls were very good and the presentation was what should be expected. Prices are good and lots the choose from. Went in for lunch and it was is and 1 other table. Service was slow and the girl was not very attentive. Would stand by the bar and play on her phone. Not a fan of that.

At last, both the service and sushi are excellent! We have visited Sushi Yama for the $9.95 all-you-can-eat lunch every few weeks since they opened. I'm very pleased to say that they have worked out all the kinks and the current staff is excellent. In particular, Debbie the server and Pay-lee the sushi chef are a winning combination. The rolls are perfectly balanced and not heavy on rice. The fish looks/tastes delicious and I saw online that they received an Excellent rating from the county inspector. When we take the kids, they are always treated respectfully. We are proud to have Sushi Yama in our neighborhood.
(5)Carl S.
We randomly tried this place 35 min after they closed! We were let in by a very happy older man that was very attentive. The sushi was good and so was the service. I want them to have more business so that they can really show their colors and have a bit more freshness. I was very satisfied considering the late accommodation!

After my third trip there, I feel I can write a decent review. Quantity, pretty good, as it should be for the price. Quality, not there. Service, well above par. Everyone there is great. Quick, responsive, you really couldn't ask for anything more. Dining experience, this is actually one of the few places where I've looked around and thought it was a nice place to eat. Although, the last time I was there it was evening and the lights above the table were very, very dim and for me were in my line of sight when looking across the table. What a petty complaint though, right? If that's the worst part of a dine-in experience, you're in good shape. My only gripe would be the overall quality. I had cashew chicken previously, and that was fair. Beef broccoli this week was fairly bland and the meat had a whitish hue to it with an almost processed-like taste to it making me wonder if it came in a large frozen bag. I've had some of the sushi along with a few of the rolls here at this point, they are OK but are lacking the overall flavor you find elsewhere. The convenience factor here makes this a great location.

We tried Sushi Yama for dinner recently because Taigun, our local favorite, was closed on Sundays. But Sushi Yama was very disappointing with mediocre food at best and indifferent service. Our tempura dish had none of the light crispy consistency of good tempura and instead tasted like a greasy diner version of fried food in old oil. And the teriyaki shrimp dish was overcooked and served 20 minutes after the tempura (forgotten in the kitchen perhaps?). I've had lunch previously at Sushi Yama that was reasonable, with large sushi roll portions of middling quality. For that reason I'll round this up to a two star rating.

Worst sushi experience of my life, and I've been eating sushi all over the US for ten years. No greeter or hostess at front door. Fryer was offline, and no backup fryer for making orders for customers. Brought me my beer opened already, so I have no idea if the beer is watered down or not. The head vanished after pouring. Soy sauce looked very watered down and tasted awful. Unagi was severely undercooked had to spit it out and not even eat it. Waitress brought me miso soup in a to go container even though I asked for wonton, and stirred it to see if it was the right kind (trying to give me someone's untaken to go order?!?), brought back the same spoon (still wet smelling like miso soup) for my bowl of wonton soup. When my sushi was ready, she stood there, looking over it and asked a bunch of questions of the sushi chef (could see spit flecks fly from her mouth onto my food). Sushi Yama was a huge waste of time and money. Gag. Avoid!

Let's give it 2.5 stars, but would give the caveat that I have only tried the sushi here once, about a couple months after they opened. I didn't really enjoy the sushi because the rice was unseasoned and a bit overcooked/mushy. Usually sushi rice is flavored with mild vinegar and perfectly cooked. The sauces on the specialty rolls were a bit heavy-handed, but I understand that some customers really like that. I really hope that Sushi Yama will find its stride, because it is perfectly located for us. Best of luck to them, and I hope next time I have a better experience.

Granted, we only had the all-you-can-eat rice (I mean "sushi,") and nothing else, but I felt compelled to write a review. This was our first visit, and the interior is excellent. Really inviting. The menus look beautiful too, and the prices were low, even for special rolls, starting at about $8.95. We ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi lunch (only available during lunch) for $9.95 each. I was very excited, since I love both sushi and endless rounds of it. I should have known better! When we got our first (and only) plate of 6 rolls, were both taken aback by the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RICE in the sushi, paired with MICROSCOPIC AMOUNTS OF FISH. Example: The unagi cucumber roll, usually $5 on the normal menu, had SO LITTLE EEL in it that I was frankly shocked. I mean, like a SPECK of eel in most pieces, about as big around as a pencil, or smaller, hidden within a HUGE disk of rice about 2" across, then sneakily covered in eel sauce (on each piece) so you couldn't see how little eel was in each piece. Even worse than that, the end pieces had what appeared to be NO FISH AT ALL, just rice! And the cucumber? I didn't see any. My companion says she did, but that's all unprovable at this point. It's like someone claiming to have seen Bigfoot, but without photographic evidence. I should have taken photos! This rice fest was pretty much the case for EVERY roll we ordered. After finishing off the plate so we wouldn't be charged for leftovers, my companion and I were stuffed and had no interest in any more of this chewy mass. Imagine eating SIX rolls that were 95% sticky rice. One, the spicy tuna (not spicy, acutally) had less rice, but was still bland. I've eaten sushi at many places for many years and I've NEVER, EVER had this much rice in my sushi rolls. EVER. I mean E. V. E. R. Usually, I can eat about twice what we had today, but the rice tonnage just filled us up fast, as I'm sure it was intended to. That's $20, plus tip, for a pile of rice. You could buy FIVE POUNDS of rice, uncooked, for about $6. This place has excellent potential. It is apparently Korean owned (because they were speaking KOREAN (note to Sami, another reviewer, who is implying that I'm a fool for thinking they're KOREAN), and it could do well. I've watched at least a billion hours of KOREAN dramas, so yes, I know when someone is speaking KOREAN. I also teach ESL. Heck, maybe they were Japanese but speaking Korean for their own amusement. Who knows? Who cares? Amazing how snobbish people get about sushi. Anyway, this place could do well, or not. I'm not going to go back until fellow Yelpers say the special rolls are at least normal. In the meantime, STAY AWAY from the all-you-can-eat here! NOTE: I keep checking back on the reviews here, and either I had a totally unusual rice-fest experience, or those who think there isn't too much rice in the all-you-can-eat are pure sushi novices. Ooooh, look! It's a bunch of prettily arranged rice, wrapped in seaweed! That ain't sushi, people. Sushi is not merely a mass of rice wrapped in tough seaweed. I guess my point is that you have MANY sushi options around here, so be selective! Boy, I really should have taken photos; it would have proven my point perfectly. And to the other reviewer (also Sami, spelled with an "i" (why do they do that?)), letting this place off the hook for their rice-fest by arguing that hey, they need to make a buck, well, that's ABSURD. I've been to all-you-can-eat places that charge $22 and give you HUGE amounts of fish and make tons of money doing it, so give me a break. Giving people virtually nothing but rice for $10 is a DELIBERATE RIP OFF, pure and simple.

Great, friendly staff. Quick to make sure we were comfortable and checked on us often. We love outdoors, so took advantage of the outdoor seating. However, the ambiance inside is excellent also. We partook of the all you can eat lunch special. Would highly recommend the Las Vegas Roll and the Golden Roll. Another reviewer commented on the rice content, and, yes, there is a bit, but it's still a great bang for your buck! A delight to have in the neighborhood! Some of our young teens and their friends have gone on their own (with strict instructions to tip well and act courteously), and they have been treated very kindly, loving the experience of dining on their own at a place within walking distance. We hope Sushi Yama stays in the neighborhood for a long time!

I went with some of the guys from work and we were all satisfied with the All you can eat Sushi menu. There was about 12-15 rolls choices available and they made each one fresh when you ordered. We all ordered about 2-3 rolls each and had some leftovers and were all full. The MISO soup was pretty good as well, the other option was a small salad. We plan on returning and probably ordering the Tempura and possibly a UDON soup next time, we saw it on the next table.

Holy Baitshop! This is undoubtedly the worst restaurant I have been to in my life. It was sooooo bad, it was almost worth the thrill and adrenaline that came from the disbelief and astonishment that they actually think that their food is worthy of anybody's time and money. My partner ordered the Chicken Teriyaki which was as dry as leather (probably reheated several times) and slathered with some sweet soppy sauce topped with raw sesame seeds. I don't even understand how anybody can get a chicken breast to be so dry and distasteful. I ordered Sashimi (big mistake!) Imagine biting into a raw frozen fish...several different types of raw frozen fish. Sashimi should be fresh and taste of the ocean with a light sauce and acidity that brings out the flavors of the fish. This was nothing like that. This was thick pieces of partly frozen fish and absolutely disgusting...run home and brush your teeth disgusting. Wow!

Great waitstaff. Great food. Great service. Complimentary soup or salad. That was cool.
(4)Mike R.
Great sushi! Reasonable price. I did the all you can eat and thought it was a great deal. The specialty rolls I ordered on a desperate occasion were very good.
(5)Andrew L.
Absolutely amazing sushi! I come here weekly and it never disappoints. The fish just tastes fresher than other places around, the ginger dressing is perfect, and great beer specials!
(5)Robert M.
Really good sushi and Asian food coupled with EXCELLENT, friendly service and and a nice atmosphere. There have been many restaurants in this location over the last 5 or so years -- all terrible. Finally have a winner! Good job, Sushi Yama!
(5)r p.
I 100% agree with the way too much rice review. I ordered dinner for take out and I feel like all I ate was rice in way too chewy seaweed. I eat sushi a lot and never have I had this much rice. I would rather they up the prices a little and make decent sushi. giving it 2 stars b/c the miso soup was very good and the staff was nice. I hope they can improve their food it would be nice to have a good sushi place close by.

If you crave sushi and have not been to this place yet, it is time to go! I am pretty selective about sushi places. I want really fresh fish and top notch service. I usually go to Sushi Zanmai, Hapa (for happy hour) or Sushi Sasa in Denver. I have been disappointed by the quality of other Superior/louisville area sushi restaurants, so I was skeptical of Sushi Yama at first. I have now been there 3 times - both during the week and on weekends - and the sashimi and sushi are outstanding. I prefer sashimi, and Sushi Yama has excellent sashimi appetizers and platters that are much more reasonably priced than sushi restaurants in Boulder or Denver, without sacrificing quality. The rolls are also delicious, with generous portions of fresh fish/masago/veggies, and the rice is always perfect. The seaweed salad is refreshing and crisp. Last, but certainly not least, the service is excellent. The sushi chefs are pros, and the service is prompt, friendly, and attentive, but not distractingly so. I see a lot more sushi consumption in my future at Sushi Yama!
(4)Carl P.
all in all great sushi. I've been eyeing this place for a couple weeks now and finally gave it a shot. Sat at the bar, service was prompt, and the sushi came quickly. Great environment to say the least. Sushi was very well prepared. I hope this place lasts as I will be frequenting this spot. No problem with the rice as I read some had had issues with.
(4)Lindsey N.
Whenever I come home, my family and I like to make a sushi yama visit for good measure. My parents and brother don't have the most acute taste for high quality sushi; they're very much satisfied with the real basic and not too daring stuff as long as it's fresh and not so raw that it's still swimming. Thus, sushi yama is perfect for the amateur sushi goer because it's not too flashy with its ingredients, but very simple for the less adventurous sampler. One does not go to sushi yama for mindblowing sushi. Don't get me wrong; it's still pretty decent, but the selling point at this restaurant is the bang for your buck. The lunch special is what beckons. For $10, you can get all you can eat sushi with a salad and soup (wonton or miso soup). The assortment to choose from is sizable with tempura, cooked, and raw sushi available. They even let you get a to-go box, which is unique for a buffet style restaurant. To be honest, I don't have the stomach to take advantage of a buffet but for a price tag of 10 bucks... It doesn't even matter. At most sushi places, one roll would cost that much. Do the math, people!
(4)Jeffrey A.
They make a good effort to put out good sushi, but they just don't have the traffic to keep and serve super fresh sushi, which sushi needs to be. Their rolls and other meals are all pretty good. It's good if you live locally, say less than 3 miles, but there's far better sushi in Boulder and Denver.

Great food and service! Ask for the Chinese Food Menu
(5)Lily S.
3.5 stars just for the Chinese food (haven't tried sushi here). We talked to the chef, he's from Shanghai, so it's at least authentic home style cooking (I say that because, well, chefs in China cook much better!) I'll think of this place whenever I crave Shanghainese dishes, for example, Xun Yu (or Smoked Fish) is big chunks of bone-in fish deep fried and then braised in a dark sauce. Speaking of the sauce, most of the dishes we got that night came with a dark sauce that's a little too sweet for my taste. I can't say for sure if that's truly Shanghai style (my family's from Shanghai but I didn't grow up there) or it's adapted to be more Americanized. My palate is definitely more Cantonese. Service is good and the restaurant is clean. I'd come again!
(3)Cissy C.
This place is a hidden gem of pretty authentic Chinese food. I came with my mom and we didn't try any of the sushi, but we tried several of the dishes off of the Chinese menu (by the way, this menu is literally all in Chinese). The only dish I didn't like was the xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) - it's 8 tiny dumplings for $8 and they're soupy but not very tasty. Most of the food off the Chinese menu is Shanghainese. The portion sizes are decent but on the smaller end for the price. Overall, it was a delightful experience - the waitstaff were super friendly and struck up conversation with my mom in Shanghainese and the ambience is simple but clean. If you're looking for fairly authentic Chinese in Louisville/Superior...this place's Chinese menu is it.
(4)Jessica H.
Came here to celebrate Chinese New Year with my mother. Special tip! The restaurant has a secret Chinese menu! If you want some pretty authentic Chinese food, you can ask the host for a Chinese menu. The menu is all in Chinese, so hopefully you can read Chinese yourself, or you know someone who can read Chinese for you! I think I would come back again, but only for the Chinese food.
(4)Amy C.
Went in for the All You Can Eat Sushi deal they have from 12:00-2:30. They limit the pickings to just their traditional maki rolls, no sashimi or any of the fancy rolls, which is fine for the 9.95 price tag. Me and my partner ordered our first set and enjoyed them all! The salmon tempura especially was awesome! The downside is when we tried to place a second order for more of the All You Can Eat they took the menus away from us and we had to ask for them back and were pretty rude about us placing another order, emphasizing that any rolls that we didn't finish, we had to pay for. After we placed the second order, we hardly had any service which rubbed me the wrong way, but I didn't mind too much. Solid sushi, albeit with a lot of cabbage in some rolls, bad customer service.
(3)Jared P.
Don't see why their is so many negative reviews. Have had Sushi from here multiple times and have always had a good experience. We've dined out, got delivery, and eaten in house - all times were pleasant and happy experiences for us. The staff were very friendly and we commented multiple times how on top of it the hostess was. Very quick and organized. Definitely get the lunch special if you can. I eat a lot but will normally max out at about 5 rolls. Nonetheless much cheaper than buying everyone individually.
(5)Caleb D.
This really isn't good. But! One redemptive moment came when the friendly waitress (the one we didn't get from the start) was extremely apologetic and brought us ice cream to try and make the situation better. But what happened is we found a hair in my fiancé's food. And then the remake had another hair. The other waitress (who we started with) and what I could collect to be the manager were giving us a glare the duration of our visit and laughing as they looked over at our table, all while speaking Japanese. So basically I wouldn't come back. And yes, ladies in the corner, I noticed you doing that and I'm sure what you were saying was rude. Despite the hair, I wouldn't have left a review till I saw you doing that.
(3)Angélina L.
It was good until i found a spider in my food & a short piece of hair. I ordered the chicken broccoli that's where I found the spider. I also made another order of chicken fried rice & that is where I found the hair. After this I was very disgusted, I will never order from this place again. My appetite was def. ruined!
(1)Jian S.
One of the most authentic Chinese food in great plain states I ever had. Very good dining environment and located at a nice area. Definitely go back.
(5)Jacquelyn Z.
We came here after seeing the AYCE sign while eating breakfast a few days ago next door. For $9.99 it wasn't a bad deal but we definitively weren't impressed with the food. Unfortunately (as another reviewer said) they don't have very fresh fish because they don't have much clientele. At a 1:30 pm lunch, my fiancé and I were the only people in the place. My yellowtail was flavorless and chewy. Ironically, my favorite roll was the one without any fish (pumpkin tempura, yam and date). Don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon...
(2)Anthony B.
Highly recommend this place. Been here a couple times. Always friendly service, great atmosphere. It's a local place that deserves the support. Prices are on par. The only suggestion for the place would be to broaden their fish selection for their specialty rolls. Look forward to trying their happy hour.
(5)Zack B.
The Saturday lunch special is unbeatable. $9.95 for all you can eat sushi. Sushi Yama's great prices and delicious sushi rolls are sure to make me a repeat customer.
(5)Karen T.
We had a nice lunch here after finding Delvickios closed. One of us had the chicken with broccoli, which was prepared with a brown sauce and served bento style with gyoza. Two of us chose the $9.95 all-you-can-eat sushi, but found we were full after the first round of three rolls each. Maybe next time we shouldn't choose all those tempura and cream cheese laden rolls - my companions don't actually like raw fish. What?!! My favorite was the veggie tempura roll, filled with yam, date, and carrot. The unagi roll had a bitter aftertaste - perhaps it was the cucumber. I'm not sure why I chose the Philly roll - it felt more like a sandwich or a bagel with lox than sushi. It was fun to have something new, but I'll go back to try more traditional choices - and to make fun of the gutters and downspouts that feature prominently in the decor. In my book, if you're gonna have downspouts in your restaurant, you really need a water feature.
