5 stars from a diner? This is totally deserving after my recent visit. I was in the mood for a burger and shake, so figured I get their great shake and burger combo. When I arrived, on Mother's Day, I grabbed a seat at the bar and instantly saw the Chicken Fried Chicken blue plate. I was sold. While waiting for the food, I saw the GM working on the line to help with the busy rush and received my food very quick. After cutting into the chicken, my jaw hit the floor. It was probably the best Chicken Fried Chicken I have every had. Not a single piece of gristle and just tender chicken with some real crisp and flaky batter. Not the hard, dry stuff you get at other places. Needless to say, probably one of the best experiences I have ever had was at this diner.

Located in a shopping plaza Gunther Toody's is easy to miss if you don't see the sign from the highway. If you drive behind it all you see is "restaurant". I drove around a little and after some help from a maintenance man who worked in the plaza I finally located Gunther's. As I walked in I believe I was greeted with a phrase like, "What's shakin' bacon" or something to that extent. I also think my server's name was "Cadillac". So yeah, it's a 50s themed diner. Ok, I can handle that once in a while. I was here for a business meeting and only had a cup of chili, which was actually quite spicy. The person I met with wolfed down a burger in about 3 minutes so I'm going to assume he enjoyed it. Wait staff was attentive and friendly.

The good: 1) My server, Babs, checked on me several times and kept my drink full. 2) My chicken fried chicken sandwich tasted VERY fresh, with big plump lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat bun. The bad: 3) French fries were weak and soggy. I had to drown them in seasoning salt and pepper to cover the disappointing flavor. 4) the sandwich came with a big bowl of absolutely awful sandwich spread which I can best describe as the offspring of Tartar Sauce and Yum-Yum sauce with the texture of French Onion Dip. Stay Away! I would probably come back to try their breakfast or to grab a plate of chicken fingers.

I struggled a little bit with the rating for this review. I really only eat one thing at Gunther Toody's (the veggie melt), but I like it a lot. There aren't a lot of choices for vegetarians here, but I've tried a few things (veggie burger, grilled cheese, veggie melt & a few appetizers) and the veggie melt is definitely the best. The only thing I don't like is when they burn the bread just enough to scratch up the roof of my mouth, and that seems to happen maybe one out of every 5 or 6 times I eat there. I would give 4 stars if not for that. The fries are great (never undercooked, which I hate) and the portions are huge. I can't explain why, but I also really like the side dinner salad. Both the regular and light Ranch dressings are very good and it's usually very fresh. It's not anything special but I always enjoy it anyway. It doesn't seem to be widely-known that they do serve beer here (not sure about any other alcohol). They recently switched from Miller Light to Coors Light, which is a huge bummer (I won't touch that stuff), but they do have Blue Moon which is always fine with me. Really, Gunther Toody's is good for the times you feel like something a little greasy like a burger & fries. Don't expect anything gourmet, but they make decent food. The service has been consistently good (I can think of maybe a few times when it's been slightly worse than good but it's never been outright BAD) and I think the prices are more than fair for what you get. The only slight drawbacks for me are the noise (obviously it's a family-type restaurant and can get a little loud, especially on a weekend night) and the slightly obnoxious pseudo-50s speak you get from the host/hostess, but both of those things can be expected! I have tried two other Gunther Toody's and didn't like either as much as this particular location, for what it's worth.

This place isnt terrible but its not amazing. The food is a bit greasy but still tastes good. Its a diner so you can only expect so much. Our server was Cadillac and he was great. He was energetic and joking around with us. The malts and shakes are amazing. You could literally split one with a friend.

  • Josh P.

If you can tollerate the noise and the cheesy diner gimics every once and a while, the food here is pretty good. The breakfast is the best. During the week, they have an ample bacon and eggs breakfast with coffee for about $5 bucks. The burgers are okay, but it's worth going for lunch or dinner to get a shake and some green chili fries. Go Wednessday nights for nickle burgers.

Food was just ok, customer service is despicable! Not to be confused with the service from our server, she was pleasant and the food came out quick, although not all correct. The customer service and the manager on the other hand were BAD! We had purchased a certificate on groupon which says nothing on it about not being able to use it with other discounts. We went on kids eat free night and they refused to honor our groupon. The idea of the customer always being right is totally foreign to them. I have never heard of any establishment refusing to honor a certificate (or gift card) because you had a coupon/discount...I guess gunther toodys is a first on that list. They should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!

Quality greasy diner food, cheap breakfast option, fantastic shakes. When I was little my dad and I used to go to a different 50s type diner, so even though I'm nowhere near old enough to remember the 50s it still brings me back. Waitresses are all very friendly, and if you come on the regular they recognize you pretty quickly which is a nice touch.

It took the waiter 10 mins to make his first visit to get out drink orders then once he finally took our food order, that was the last time he came to our table. He helped the 2 larger groups no problem. Then the manager brought us our food. My husband never got a refill nor did anyone ask if the food was OK. After we were done eating we asked to speak with the manager and he didn't even ask what we were drinking for a refill he just brought us a water to go. Horrible service all around.

So apparently they are giving you less malt for your money now. Not excited about that.

Good old fashioned diner with quirky decor. The breakfasts here are amazing and portions huge. The lunches are very tasty as well and really enjoy the malts served old fashioned with the metal cups.

I used to go to this location all the time as a kid. We found ourselves up North looking for a spot to eat and decided to swing by for fun. There was a huge disconnect between what's listed on the menu and what the chef's were cooking. My boyfriend ordered a BBQ bacon burger that was supposed to have grilled onions, BBQ sauce on the burger and lettuce. They also delivered the sweet potato appetizer without the spicy chipotle sauce. We had to ask for the sauce twice. We mentioned the disconnect to our waitress who immediately let out a sigh of frustration and rolled her eyes...apparently this is a common occurrence?? We did ask her to mention it to her manager as well. A manager never came to the table, so I don't think she relayed the message. A few minutes later the table behind us were delivered a large order of burgers without the sauces... Our waitress did comp us a free milkshake. It was fun sitting there again...so many childhood memories. Cute atmosphere for sure. Just wish the jukeboxes still worked...those were my favorite when I was younger. If you're new to Gunther Toody's expect a fun 50's diner atmosphere including the wait staff. It's not a 5 star quality restraint... Simple Diner food. But some of the best milkshakes around.

The decor here is a bit much. Its a fun place with LOTS of memorabilia everywhere! The chairs are ripped and dated. There is a lot of activity and lots of wait staff with lots of pins! There is just a lot going on here! Don't come for alcohol, the selection is limited and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of clarity between the bar and the wait staff. I had to literally look at another table to even know that they serve Bloody Mary's. The Marilyn Monore I had was super yummy but I question the amount of vodka it contained ( if any). The food was solid and yummy! I LOVED the veggie melt! It was as loaded with super fresh veggies and melty cheese. I did have to ask for hot and crispy fries! The ones they brought were cold and soggy!

The only reason they receive three stars is because of their wait person, I think she said her name was Elvis? My wife insisted on going there and I wasn't happy about it but she always gets what she wants. First the silverware was dirty. She ordered the chicken tenders which came out fine. I ordered the meatloaf open face sandwich. I don't know what had more salt, the gravy the mashed potatoes or the meatloaf itself. If I didn't have high blood pressure before I certainly would after eating one fourth of this meal. Did they use a whole carton of salt to prepare this? I don't know but it sure tasted like it. We have eaten here maybe 7 or 8 times this by far was the worst dinner I've ever had there. I just want the manager to know that the feral cats who live out back probably enjoyed it much more than I did.

This place is great for kids! Adults? Not so much. The food is pre-made and frozen, and if it isn't, you could have fooled me! The white gravy is old school and has pork sausage in it, the brown gravy has mushrooms (but they don't mention them, it's a surprise!) The chicken was so full of gristle that I sent it back , the fries were't good. Even my drink was over flavored. My son had a good time, and he mostly enjoyed his food. We won't be back...

Overall pretty good experience. Definitely a diner with diner type food. Our waitress Freda was good and attentive. Food was cooked to order and out within 20 minutes. My 6 year old had the chicken fingers, of course, and finished them all. Prices are great and atmosphere is not bad. Would come back.

In the mood for 50's/60's meals and Service? This is the place! "Peaches" your Hostress/Head Waitress, is the greatest, her personalized service, and attention to detail, are second to none! It's a home style flair, mixed with a good food menu. Try the chicken fingers, they're to die for. And if your bored watch reruns of "Car 54" on the big screens that are mounted around the Restraunt. The prices are reasonable, the customer service, professional & second to none! Go and relax, enjoy yourself, you won't be disappointed!

So this is a throw back 50's diner. It literally makes you feel like you are on the set of a Happy Days, haha! There is even an old juke box to play your favorite 50's tunes. This has been one our kids favorites for years. The food is not the best but it's ok for the price. You can get the Big Bopper for 3.49 any day of the week. They also serve lunch and dinner as well. It's a fun little place to grab breakfast and not be out much money. The service is pretty good. If you are looking for a fun little diner experience you need to try Gunther Toody's.

So my friend and I were looking for somewhere that still served breakfast at 11, but didn't require a long wait time, since we were famished. We came across Gunther Toody's and thought that this place would work! We were sad to find out that they stopped serving breakfast. I went with the "Bleu Suede Shoe" Burger, which is their Original burger topped with Bleu cheese dressing, batter-fried onion strings, lettuce, tomato, pickles and grilled onions. It totally hit the spot. I am looking forward to going back and hitting up their breakfast menu! Did I mention that they have milkshakes?

Regarding Gunthur Tooty's off Hwy7 & I25. Hamburger was great. BUT I'd asked for it "well done". It wasn't on the edge. I was terribly disgusted to see a woman in black shirt that was pulling top bun off of hamburgers (all of them) with NO gloves just her bare hands. She then was taking food to the tables. I would think health dept. would have a problem with it. Everyone in food preparation KNOWS to not touch customers food without plastic gloves!!! If it would of been my food I WOULD of complained. This visit was on Sat 2-7-15 on the dinner hour

Stopped in a week ago and was really disappointed in the food and service. I ordered the cantelope with fresh banana and strawberries along with a mimosa. I was advised it would take 10 minutes for my drink, fine, no problem. However, after those ten minutes a waitress (not ours) brought out a full glass of orange juice and a small bottle of champagne.... they didn't even make it for me! So I have to ask.... why ten minutes? Then I get me meal and the strawberries are not fresh, but more of a preserve that you put on an ice cream sundae. Okay, I get it... strawberries may not be in season, so why not tell me? And that brings me to my final complaint... after the meal was served I never saw our waitress until it was time for the bill. Of course, she had no problem standing around talking to regulars. Terrible food and terrible service. Never had that problem in Thornton..... thank you Freda for ruining my experience.

Always good for a decent, cost effective meal. Yesterday I had the veggie melt and liked it a lot. I ordered sweet potato fries and they were tasty too. Can someone tell me why sweet potato fries never stay hot? I find this everywhere I have eaten them....anyhoo, I ordered the Reese's PB shake and was kind of let down b/c it's more like a blizzard (vanilla yogurt with crushed candy bar in it), not something you drink. Husband had a bacon burger and said it was very good. I also like this place for breakfast and we have eaten here many times. Yes, the waitresses with a pound of make up on can make you shudder but that's the idea, right?

I'm not sure why the other reviews are so low. There is a great selection of burgers and shakes/malts, and you can put a veggie patty on any of them so vegetarians are still in good company. They have a buy-one-get-one on Wednesdays (if you order 2 drinks) which is really a steal.

    (5)
  • Nancy M.

Gunther's is a fun diner and it has a great upbeat staff. I usually eat on the Wednesdays with the buy one get the second hamburger for 5 cents day. They always let you mix things up and now they have sweet potato fries which I love. This week I went for breakfast and they have a great special for $3.99 and for a little more I got them to substitute for a baking powder biscuit. They come out of the oven hot and I think their great. Everything we order was perfectly done and she even gave me a great cup of hot water for my tea. Yeah Flo!

It doesn't seem like all that long ago, this was one of our favorite places to go. The pace was busy and we did have a very short wait as they cleaned off a booth for us, they had seating at a table, but we chose to wait for the booth. So far- so good. Our waitress walked by a couple of times taking care of other tables, then got into a long discussion with the folks next to us as they were from out of town. Now I get it, and I LOVE when the waiter/ waitress takes the time to really connect with us. However I would prefer that all happens AFTER the new customers get at least a rudimentary welcome and at least a drink order in. Instead I found out the customers next to us were from the collage in Fort Collins and working on doctorate degrees and just down for the weekend visiting friends and family. Blah blah blah blah blah... BTW, I still don't have my coffee. So my lovely wife starts a new conversation to calm me down as she can see I am about ready to get up and serve myself coffee. I think the waitress overheard her as a moment later she stopped by and welcomed us, and took our drink order. She looked annoyed that she had to leave her new found friends at the next table and help this old grumpy guy, but thems the breaks sister.. oh BTW I still don't have any coffee. I am pretty sure I have found my superpower. It seems when I really want food or drink or service at a restaurant, I have the ability to slow time down to a crawl.. I have also found I can augment this ability by being grumpy about it making time slow down even more. In my superpower, time slowed state, it took nearly an hour for the coffee to show up, although my wife, who has no sense of my superpowers, said it was only a few minutes. Whatever... Once the coffee showed up my wife's timeline and mine seemed to slip back into sync. While I was a bit surly about the time it took to get my drink, I decided to let it go, as honestly, there was no way for me to let the misses and the waitress understand the time slowing superpower without releasing my secret identity. (which superheroes never do over a cup of coffee of course) We ordered our food and as we are ordering I wonder if the waitress had guessed about my superpower, as she seemed much more friendly then before, in addition, understanding that I have superhero business to attend to, our food came out pretty quick and quite honestly was delicious. I had the chicken tenders and green chili smothered fries. Simply awesomeness on a plate. Overall, I would say this place is still one of our favorite places.

This place has a good breakfast menu, don't typically eat here otherwise. Nice atmosphere. It's one of those places you have to eat at, at least once. Great food, good service and they are exceptionally fast

Went Saturday night and my 5 year old ended up with food poisoning. My 4 year old niece ended up with stomach cramps. Both kids ate the mini corn dogs (my son ate more) which came out WAY too fast - before our drinks! Usually the mini corn dogs take awhile to cook & are scorching hot. These were lukewarm at best I later found out. We WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!

So the reason we come to Gunther Toody's is to bring my husbands grandfather. He for some reason loves coming here. His grandparents used to go every morning but hey when you're 80 what else do you have to do. Now that she's gone we go with him so he doesn't feel lonely. Every time we say we'll go he'll tell us exactly what we get for the $2.99 breakfast. They both get coffee and I normally get just water. We end up around $12 after tax for breakfast. It's all cooked in butter and really greesy but it makes the man happy. It's decorated like an old timey diner and all the girls wear terrible lipstick and horrid outfits and call you sweetie. But it's alright because it makes our grandpa happy!

I don't consider this place fast food. fast food is a drive through. Fast food they bring to a car. We went in, sat down and ordered.. The order came pretty fast, so it is a pretty fast food place that has waitresses. But I don't get the charm of being called Honey or sweetie, or hearing: What's shakin' daddy-o? This was not my teen experience and the 50s charm is lost on me. But it is a different motif. I choose my restaurants usually by food and quality of service-mostly the food. I can deal with a crappy waitress if the food is good. Fortunately, every time we have been here our waitress has been fast and efficient.. However the one today didn't tell us the special-we heard another table ask what the special was. So, if you are interested in the special, be sure to ask just in case! Fortunately, too, the food is good. Our burgers are always juicy/big, the fries always crisp and the drinks cold. Today I had a BLT(it was a lot like the ones my mother made) and French fries that cried out for ketchup. It was a satisfying lunch. My lunch companion was happy with his burger and fries. Now you can order anything you want-they have a lot of comfort foods(like meat loaf with gravy and potatoes) but we usually stick to the sandwiches. It seems a little pricey, but you get a lot on the plate. So, I am a returning fan of Gunter Toody's Diner. Do you know when you have seen too many horror movies-when after you are seated in a restaurant you start to plan how you could fortify the place against a zombie swarm. I am just saying.....

"Howdy doody Darlin!" "What's shakin bacon?" Having an 18 year old waitress call me "sweetheart" and "hunny" my entire lunch was a little weird, no scratch that, really weird. Adding insult to injury all the waitresses had fake names, Patsy, Betsy, Lorraine, Lucy, blah blah blah, you get the gist, right? The fried mushrooms were pretty decent as an appetizer. I got a burger and it was just a burger, nothing too "awesome blossom" or "rootin tootin". My dad got the Atomic wrap, drowning it in hot sauce sure made it live up to it's name. Let's just say he needed lots of blue cheese dressing for dipping. "Okie dokie artichokie" I'm done with the cheesiness. I get the concept here but it was like I was stuck in an annoying (not funny) sitcom, not enjoying my lunch. The food is pretty average but the overwhelming role playing was just too much for me. "OK See ya later alligator!"

The food has become a little inconsistant. And the manager is a jerk. There have been multiple times over the last year that we've ordered the chicken fried chicken and the batter is different. When we asked the manager, he accused us of not remembering correctly and that the batter is always the same. The next visit - the dish was correct and we asked the waitress about it. She said that they had changed the recipe a couple of times but went back to the way it was before. The eggs and hashbrowns are also pretty inconsistant. I blame the manager, because I don't like him. Our last visit (just a few days ago), we ordered our usual and when it arrived, the eggs were fried, not basted as ordered. AND the jelly packets were on top of the food (who does that! It is not sanitary to put those on someone's food!). We asked for the plate to be redone correctly and without dirty packets in the food. The waitress returned with the manager, who was holding the plate, and he said, "These eggs are basted." Obviously, they weren't. Then we also explained about how unsanitary it is to put jelly packets on someone's food. He got huffy and said, "So, you want an entirely new plate of food just because of a jelly packet?!" We said, "Yes." And he shook his head and stomped off. We got up and left - telling the waitress as we went that she could thank her manager for losing the table and that he needs to check his attitude. I still give this place 3 stars because I do like the food - even when it's inconsistant. The waitresses are always nice and the service is pretty quick. We'll probably try it again in the future, but we'll give it some time for them to change their ways (or for the manager to get fired, which is inevitable).

The atmosphere is very classic, but a little odd. Its definitely greasy Diner food. Service was good, we went during the a.m. breakfast rush and it was packed. I took my family here because some friend humiliated me for my 18th birthday here so i figured i would give it another try. It's an experience.. and they do serve a lot of old school diner food so if your looking for nostalgia this place works well.... "later gator"! ooohhh and they have a lip check station where the waitress have to fix the lipstick frequently... I laughed at this...

Friday afternoon my young friends and I decided to have some quality "girl time". We started off with a milkshake and fries happy hour and Gunther Toody's. And to have some "girl talk".The waitress curtly asked us if that was ALL we were going to order??...and, before we even finished eating..the waitress asked the girls if they would like their milkshakes in "to go" cups. Apparently, she was hoping for someone to occupy our table who would buy more food. But..she did not need to be such a bitch about it. Feeling unwelcomed, we hurried, we finished, and left. I did not want to leave a tip..but I did. We have shared meals here before, but I won't be bringing them back here. Ever. How rude. :(

I had a hankerin for some french toast, that I'd had for well, quite a while. Since my BF was tired of my whining he suggested Gunther Toody's. It was pretty good, the food wasn't spectacular, but for the price I couldn't complain. The french toast was cooked well, I hate it when the middle is soggy, I'm all about the texture! I had the sausage which was link, not patty, and it wasn't great. I like to cut up my sausages smother them in syrup and have a salty sweet snack during my meal and the sausage was kinda sweet to it didn't do the job. Now as far as the ambiance it's got that 50's diner thing going on, which is fun and the waitresses wear little dress-outfits and I'm assuming that it must be part of the uniform to wear red lipstick (they all had it on) but man, some people just shouldn't wear red lipstick. I wanted to get up and wipe it off several of their front teeth. I'm thinking that's where my stars went. The food was A-OK but the lipstick, man.

Our family stopped in this location twice when we were in town last week, once for lunch and once for breakfast on the way to DIA. Both meals were pretty good, as I had a green chili burger, and belgian waffle breakfast. Service was great both visits (they have friendly servers from what I saw), and neither time was it crazy busy. If you like stepping back in time into the 50's and 60's, then this is the place for you.

I recently stopped by this place for a quick bite to eat while on the run. It's conveniently located right off I-25, and is a little different from the standard chains like IHOP, Village Inn, Perkin's, Bennigan's, etc. in the area. This is a good place to throw a cheap happy-birthday, good-job, or I'm-proud-of-you meal for a child. For adults, the food is decent for the price. On Wednesdays, they have buy-one-get-one-free deals on burgers, so that's an especially popular day to have family functions there. The decor and wait staff are the restaurant's poor attempt at providing a 50's feel, but I appreciate their effort. By the way, I'm surprised that the waitresses don't stuff their bras...'cuz you know, that contributes to the authenticity of a true 50's diner... 1 star off: decent, but mediocre, burgers 1 star off: not that exciting for those over the age of 10 (or those looking for giant fake boobs)

I have eaten many times at Gunther Toody's and must say that out of the fast food type of places that I frequent, I enjoy this one the best. The food is always good and the service is exactly what you would expect out of a 50's-60's diner. If you havn't tried Gunther Toody's then I would suggest you do, if your looking to stretch your $$ then go on Wednesday where you get your 1st Burger at regular price and your next one for 5 cents. That is a evrey Wednesday deal that rocks! Enjoy!

Goofy atmosphere. Typical diner food. I mean burgers and fries with gravy are all what you might expect. There is one exception to their otherwise typical diner fare: the Monte Christo. Apparently dipped in the same batter they use for their fish 'n chips and then deep fried, topped with very little powdered sugar. It's like an otherwise normal ham and turkey sandwich was captured and tortured by Long John Silvers employees. Relatively unpleasant experience. You can have a similar experience by ordering the hot ham and cheese from Arby's and dunking it in Crisco. Aside from the abominable Monte Christo (should be a nice chewy egg batter, sort of like french toast or sometimes like a sandwich dipped in funnel cake -and pack it with ham and turkey and cheese instead of the third slice of bread, please), everything at Gunther Toody's is the kind of salt/fat/carb/meat feeding frenzy that you might expect from something that aspires to be a throwback tot he 1950's. A great big greasy spoon. Go for the fries. Go for the almost-but-not-quite-50's atmosphere. go for the waitress with goofy nametags and artifical enthusiasm. You might even go for the milk shakes. Their breakfast is probably alright, too. That Monte Christo was enough to put me off Gunther Toody's for a long time, though. Bleah.

Well I usually get burgers here which I like but decided to try something different, I love a good Chicken Fried Steak so I ordered that and the wife got the fish and chips. We split some onion rings for an appetizer. The Onion rings were a big disappointment as they were just frozen and then fried to order, the batter had that play-dough type of smell definitely not worth the calories. The chicken fried steak was a frozen reheat slab too it was hard and the gravy was just ok. The fish however seemed to be fresh breaded and then fried, too bad that batter is not on the Onion Rings, Fries were good that came with the fish. Meals came with a cup of soup and dinner rolls, so you get lots of food and nothing tastes bad. I might try the fish and chips but will probably just stick to getting burgers and fries here so I'm not disappointed.

Gunther's has a very good $2.99 breakfast as well as a buy one get one for 5 cent burger night (Wednesdays). Very good burgers.
