I purchased a cake for my daughters sweet 16 birthday. I decided I wanted to try them one more time, it has been 8 years since I was back. Kings, Safeway, costco, and walmart as we know do not have good designs that is why I went to cakes by Karen. HUGE mistake! I ordered a 10 inch round, 50.00 dollar cake that just crumbled I could not even get it to the plate it just fell apart I couldn't believe it! No one could eat this cake not even with a spoon! Then I have to say the icing on the cake is when I found a white hair in it! I am beside myself with this one! I am bringing the cake back and I am demanding my money back! I will NEVER step foot in that place of business EVER! And yes the previous negative reviews above are correct! it's almost like they are ordering cheap box cakes and just frosting them! While the grocery stores cake designs are not what you want I have never had to bring back a cake I could not eat! Unbelievable! You should be ashamed! I could get a better cake out of my nieces easy bake oven! You may want to address the poor quality of your products, I don't see a whole lot of profit in your future.

I Went to pick up my son's birthday cake today and it was completely incorrect. This is not the first time that I have ordered a specialty, cut out cake from them and have it be incorrect. However I continued to purchase my cakes from them because the woman at the store in Denver was always so kind. The owners of the company offered to redo the cake however that would not work since they could not have a new cake done in an hour and a half to accommodate the time my son's birthday party starts. They gave me a partial refund since I took the cake and would be eating the "product". The "product" was dry and could have been made days ago by the way it tasted. Cakes By Karen is not interested in keeping customers, it is interested in charging you large amounts of money for cakes that are not what people ordered. I will be shopping for my future cakes at a different local bakery and I encourage everyone else to do the same.

I love cakes by Karen, and every time I have a last minute baked good that I need, I swing by this location. They are great at custom orders (see attached picture of officer badge cake) or you can pick up one of their pre-made cakes (see attached pictures of birthday rounds). They make a few extra every day for the poor planners. If they have a day old cake it's half off but just as tasty. Personally I love the butter cream frosting - it's so much more decadent than fondant.

My (new) wife and I ordered our wedding reception "cupcake tree" from Cakes By Karen-- 75 cupcakes in several delectable varieties. They worked patiently with The Mother Of The Bride, which is worthy of an extra star in this review. Their prices were very competitive. They provided samples ahead of time, worked through the myriad details with us, and ultimately provided a very tasty stack of cupcakes that were happily consumed by our guests. My favorite was the "decadent chocolate" cupcake: chocolate cake with pudding filling and chocolate frosting-- spectacular!

We had two cakes made for a double birthday party. Wonderful! We had photos on them and they were clear and the colors were bright. The cakes were moist and delicious. The yellow cake especially was so flavorful. They were ready to go when I went to pick them up. I will definitely get cakes from Cakes By Karen again!

I purchased my baby shower cake from cakes by Karen. it was 150$ with delivery 175$. the cake was delicious and was very cute but not worth the price. I had a by the sea pink theme. I requested a baby on top in a sea shell. the baby looked deformed and the pink I requested was not what I had in mind. usually I wouldn't have been so picky but I wanted my 150$ worth. My daughters 1st birthday is now coming up and im debating going back. One thing I did LOVE about the shop was she didn't treat me like I was an inconvience. Other bakerys I called complained about the time even though I was giving a two month advance notice. also she let me make my payments when and in the amount I could.

I have trusted Cakes by Karen with bithdays for my kiddos, My wedding and several other events. Cindy has always gone out of her way to insure that everything Is timely and profesional. It's refreshing that a small business is still holding its own after all these years I highly recommend them for any event birthday etc. Personal favorite was a spider cake with cupcakes that was done for my son's 4th birthday

I've been going to cakes by Karen for about 10 years now but the passed couple of years their customer service went from great to poor. They are actually rude now. Lately it seems that they are overpricing their cakes and for what? I have no idea. The detailed work on their cakes was slowly starting to get sloppy. Recently I was trying to order a cake for about 50-60 people. Again, she gave me a price that was way to high. I told her she has to drop it down, considering the fact that I'm a long term costumer and they would be delivering just to the next exit which is 120th avenue. But she did not care! I told her I wouldn't be back and she was completely okay with it. I highly suggest you go to another bakery because trust me, you will be paying a lot of money for a cake that isn't worth it.

Been coming to this location for years. This is not fondant heaven like some bakeries. This is old school butter cream frosting. The fillings they do are why I choose them over the grocery store. Plus at last minute I can call with my idea and they make it for me. Once within three hours. They are a mom and pop shop. Smile and chat to them. Ask how they are doing and tell them about you.. It's not hard becoming an acquaintance quickly in the service industry. It is also the secret to get good service. Show respect and get respect!!! ( by the way that's coming from a long time customer service rep).

I have been purchasing birthday cakes from Cakes by Karen for over 15years. I even purchased a wedding cake for my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary. In every instance I was satisfied with the taste and presentation of the cake. I recently purchased a wedding cake for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary...and I couldn't have been more dissatisfied. I spent over $520.00 for the cake and chose a design that they have displayed in their window at the Northglenn location. The cake delivery and visual presentation suggested that I was going to receive another great cake. It was placed on a table all its own and was to suppose to be a wonderful moment for my parents. When they cut into the cake with a brand new cake knife and attempted to slide the cake out with the cake server the sliced piece of cake literally fell apart. Well being that we are in the moment of my parents cutting and sharing a piece of cake we kept going with the festivities. Once my parents were done I had an adult relative who has cut many a cake assist in cutting slices for guests. Mind you that I paid for over 100 guests to have dinner and the cake was to be the desert. So the cake was a BIG deal. Long story short the cake fell to pieces. Every time a slice was cut and slide from the cake it the bread immediately crumbled and fell apart. Guests who understood cake asked what was wrong and new that there was a problem with the cake. I was completely embarrassed with the cakes performance. I ended going to the Northglenn location to discuss the issue and request a 50% refund. I spoke with Karen and provided her pictures of the crumbled cake; she put me in touch with an individual named Jeff, who never really told me who he was in this whole matter. I explained to Jeff what occurred and he was immediately in damage control. He never truly understood the significance of the situation. I explained the cake did not perform as expected. We ate the cake (it was the desert I had to serve it to my guests), so I was willing to negotiate a refund. Jeff attempted to find ways to avoid any responsibility, he asked if I let the guests serve themselves, how did I cut the cake, he called the hotel where we had the function to see if I had 'bad mouthed' Cakes by Karen. I requested a 50% refund and Jeff was only willing to provide a 30% refund. Then he told me that I had to incur the credit card fees for processing the refund I told him I would not. I just received the credit and Cakes by Karen reneged on their agreement, I only received $150.00 when he agreed to $156.00. I will never buy another cake from Cakes by Karen. Yes they provided a refund; however, it is not equal to the significance the cake they provided played in my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary and the cakes poor performance. The fact that they did not refund the amount agreed to demonstrates a lack of professionalism and frankly is shady and crooked.

Ordered cupcakes for a party here, once again, delicious, ready on time, and pretty designs!

I have bought cupcakes from a verity off different places over the years. Karen's is my least favorite, there prices are just as high as any place but their cupcakes are just not that good, nor were the decorations/colors. I could have easily make the same cupcakes at home and I am not much of a baker.

We have been getting cakes from here for more than 20 years. We love the look and most of all the TASTE of the cakes and frosting. There is no substitute. No grocery store cake (or even other cake shops) can compare with Karen's. We now live in Parker, but we drive either to their Aurora location, or even up to Northglenn, to pick up our cakes for special events. It isn't a birthday party without a Cake by Karen!

I'm a bit disappointed with my last experience with Cakes by Karen. I called the Kipling/Lakewood store on a Saturday to place an order for a 6" birthday cake. Without my knowledge, I was routed to the main store in Northglenn. I didn't find this out until I tried to pick up the cake. I verified on my phone and with the lady in the shop that I had called the Kipling/Lakewood store. No problem...I didn't mind driving up to the Northglenn store. After I arrived at the store and had my cake in hand, I told the lady what had happened, as just an FYI. She expressed little concern, let alone any acknowledgement of the extra distance I had to drive to get the cake. I was turned off. Yeah...and my boyfriend says I'm bad about keeping mail/receipts/bills around, well this particular store is a mess. The area behind the counter is covered in paper, office equipment, boxes...I couldn't even see where they do their baking and decorating. Not becoming of a bakery. (The Kipling/Lakewood store is much better in this regards.) The cake itself was tasty; however, we got a 3D cake and the 3D feature was not really edible. So I don't know...will we try Cakes by Karen again? Possibly the Kipling/Lakewood store, but definitely not the Northglenn store.

I wouldn't spend a dime at Cakes by Karen. I've heard nothing good about them in recent years. In fact, I'm surprised they are still open after all these years!! I am the recipient of the Louis Vuitton cake and I'm appalled at the service, or lack thereof, that we experienced. The cake tasting like cardboard was just an added bonus to all of the attitude received from the staff. Thankfully there are many other bakeries in Denver. Even if there weren't, I'd hire my 5 yr old to make a cake before ever stepping foot in Cakes by Karen again.

Cakes by Karen has the WORST customer service ever!!! I ordered a cake for my husband's 50th birthday. Ordered it 2 weeks in advance at the Aurora store. I was not aware then that although they have 4 metro Denver locations, they really only MAKE the cakes at one of them (Northglenn). In any case, when I went to pick up the cake on the designated day, I had asked for a chocolate cake with white decorating and writing (black and white theme) and instead I got bright blue decorating and writing on chocolate frosting!!! I told the woman at the Aurora store that I was not happy about this and she told me there was nothing she could do and that I would need to call the Northglenn store. I called right away and the only option they gave me was to drive the cake to Northglenn from Aurora when I only had a few hours until the surprise party. The woman who took my call at the Northglenn store was VERY rude and did not care at all that they had not decorated the cake per my request. She said that there was no color listed on the order (error by order clerk at store) and so they just picked one. I asked why they wouldn't have at least called me to ask about this and she said they just figured it was for a "boy" so they would use blue. And then she suggested that I take the cake to Safeway or King Soopers and see if they would fix it for me!!! Unbelievable! As others have commented, I was amazed at their lack of customer service and I for one will never buy another cake from Cakes by Karen. I would highly recommend that future customers go to King Soopers, Safeway or Costco instead because at least these bakeries make their cakes on site and stand behind their products! Cakes by Karen does not even deserve 1 star but unfortunately I wasn't able to give them ZERO stars.
