Fine dining in Niwot Ain't just at Colterra Have a great fresh salad Made 'speci'ly by Tara!

I've only been here once to say farewell to a co-worker on her last day and I have no complaints! It is located in a little strip mall and the first thing I noticed was an outdoor patio. Upon walking in I found this dimly lit modest bar/restaurant decorated in dark wood. This is definately a place for the locals to hang out and it had a "Cheers" bar feel but without the wacky characters. Even so, they made us outsiders feel welcome. The hot wings aren't bad but their homemade chips lightly sprinkled with sea salt and cool ranch for dipping were probably the best I've had. Check it out sometime if you are ever in the Niwot or Gunbarrel area!

I work near the Niwot Tavern. We frequently eat here, or order takeout. We LOVE this place. The service is always fantastic, the food is great, and their fries are yummy! My favorite thing to get here is the Spicy Asian Beef Salad. So good! Ive also tried the greek quesadillas. Though small, they were good! Highly recommended!

We stopped in after a day of running errands and sat at the bar. There were "locals" at the bar watching TV which was fun since they were watching Animal Planet. The beer was nice and cold and the bartender was fast and friendly. The food is another story. First of all WAY over priced compared to other comparable establishments. We ordered wings and a wedge salad. The wings had no flavor at all......no Buffalo Wing flavor. They were bland, bland, bland and tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. The salad was limp with no crunch to it and not very fresh. Probably wont go back. Too many other places who are several other places who have MUCH better food. and a more reasonable price.

A really nice local restaurant. I enjoyed the lunch I had today. I ordered the fish and chips. It was really fresh and tasty. The small portion was 2 pieces of fish. With the price of 9.95 it should of had a 3rd fish. I also had the clam chowder. It was more like potato chowder. I think I only saw a couple of clams in my soup. Don't get me wrong the food was good but it can be better. When I got there at 11:30am many tables were available. By the time I left, mostly all the tables were occupied. The waitress was running around taking everyone order. I felt bad for her and the customers. I had to wait for a while before she gave me my bill. I never got my water refilled during my lunch. I didn't want to ask for a refill because I felt bad for the waitress. The plus of all this was it had really good Fish and Chips! I might consider going back.
(3)Abby S.
Great little pub. I've liked everything I've had there. My like that you can make any salad a wrap. Especially enjoy the spicy chicken. Good fish and chips. Make sure you get the fried pickles.

This message is for the on-duty manager tonight (4-23-15). I frequent this bar a lot, and I have spent a sh!t load of money here since I've lived in Niwot. If I ever come to the bar again and there are children occupying the last barstools in the place, I can guarantee you that I will NEVER enter those front doors again! Make a new rule, and make it now!

My in-laws moved to Niwot recently and turned us onto their new favorite place, Niwot Tavern. It's a cute family bar/restaurant with delicious food. They even have kale as a side order option! The staff is always so nice and parking is always easy. We've never had to wait long to be seated and we recently came in to try their breakfast, which was good but certainly not as delicious and their dinner! Try their margaritas with dinner, they're delicious!
(4)JP B.
Delicious food, good staff, and great selection! We were looking for something new to try, having been all over Longmont and most of Boulder....Niwot Tavern was a great find! We'll be back.
(5)Scott L.
I Love this Bar. I go for happy hour. Good drink specials but I'm easy to please with the Milk Stout Nitro from Left Hand Brewery. Service is amazing (Tara reads your mind and knows you need another beer before you do). French Dipped sandwich came out quickly and freshly prepared after the lunch rush. I returned a week later to have 1/2 fish and chips as well as the fried pickles. Generous portions. Happy to return anytime.
(5)Nate H.
A neighborhood joint for us. Solid menu and cold beer. Good burgers and they have a good prime rib special. Nothing trendy, no hippies with iPads, no Boulderista's, just locals. It's a great value. It is our go-to place. And the comment from the frustrated millennial is accurate, since it is a boomers crowd.
(4)Olivia S.
Decent hang out, though a older crowd, I may have been the only person in their 20's there most nights (other then a few staff members). Food is average, fries could be better. Over priced drinks. Best thing they have is deep fried pickles!!!! Those are amazing, I know it sounds weird, but give them a try at the Tavern.
(2)Mary B.
Went there with the family on a Sunday night for Lobster. Two lobster tails, plus all the "fixens" for $20.00!! Can't beat that!! Loved it...
(5)Satir D.
Ok I have to leave a review because they deserve some new opinions. This place is a great, locally owned neighborhood place. Healthy options, even Kale, caring chef that will make it the way you like! and genuinely kind servers and owners. I saw they had Mexican listed on this Yelp listing.. Thats a mistake.. Its tavern food with fresh choices, great happy hour and friendly folks! Check it out..No pretense but decent food at a reasonable price with generous portions! Gotta love Niwot! I live in town and really appreciate good and affordable dining option!
(3)JD B.
I had good expectations for this place when I moved nearby several years ago. Live music at the time, a cool-looking bar, and friendly bartender. However, the live music is long gone, and the food is mediocre at best. The waitstaff usually seems like they wish they were somewhere else. Plenty of other better choices nearby.
(2)David W.
Average food. Not great not Horrible.
(3)Jackie R.
Three adults ordered the prime rib and it was excellent! Wait staff friendly and on their toes and we will definitely go back!
(5)Jodi A.
Left hand brewers brewiversary I think. They tapped a keg...of sawtooth, and if you ordered this brew, you revieved a free left hand brewery glass. We got here exceptionally early. I think our tab bought a case of glasses..(dorks !) BUT...the bruchetta was wonderful....you would not expect to partake in food this lovely at a pub...but we did....true that. The calimari was nice, could have used another 45 seconds in the fryer...but it was good and thick and the marinara was spicy and delish. The service was wonderful, and we love the Niwot Tavern.
(5)Debra L.
This place was definitely not on my radar. I would have never gone in here if my girlfriend hadn't told me about the surprisingly good meal she had here last week. So with that new information, me and the boyfriend headed out there last night. Honestly, I prefer to stay away from downtown Boulder on a weekend night, so I was hopeful to find another good option. It was a pleasure to be in the peacefulness and quiet of Niwot on a summer night. Yes, this place is a bar/restaurant, but we, too, found the food to be surprisingly good. They are in the mall just a block outside of the main strip of Niwot. We sat out on the patio and the atmosphere was nice, although it's right on the parking lot. Their deck is lined with a tapestry of beautiful, abundant hanging flower boxes. But remember... it is a local "bar slash restaurant"... so it's casual and just a bit worn. Which is perfectly fine. Ah, and the food delivers. The menu choices included lots of burgers, and all of them can be made with buffalo if you like. There are salads and soups, pasta entrees, meatloaf, fish and chips, and several nice chicken entrees. I got the chicken picatta. It was truly delicious. Perfectly cooked breasts of chicken in a caper cream sauce served with white rice and perfectly steamed vegetables. No, it wasn't fine nouvelle cuisine but nevertheless, I considered licking the plate. Boyfriend got a mushroom-cheese burger with sweet potato fries. He reported that the burger was "very good". And I can personally attest to the fries being excellent (always a true test of a restaurant's finesse.) I'm sure we'll be back... I'm glad to know of it.
(4)Jordan L.
My daughter and I come here for the fried pickles because they are AWESOME! Hot from the fryer, juicy and salty goodness. We are vegetarians so we usually stick to the veggie burgers, you can order them any way you like, and they come on Challah buns which are super duper yummy. I've tried a couple other (vegetarian) things on the menu and haven't been totally impressed, so we usually stick with what we like. We come here about once every couple months. The price is right, the staff is always friendly, and we always leave stuffed.
(4)Heather T.
Niwot Tavern is a FANTASTIC place to listen to live music and have a pint after a long day of work. The bartender is the best around, and their food is pretty darn good too. They have live music 4-5 nights a week I think. Every band I've seen there has been awesomely talented from blues to folk to jazz.
(5)Ryan A.
This place was disappointing. I live down the street and was hoping for a local place to hang out and get some good food. I'll start with the good stuff before I slam this place because of the food. They do have live music and in warmer weather the patio looks like a great place to hang out and have a beer and listen to some live music. We sat inside and my kid ordered the fish and chips off the kids menu. It was obviously frozen and tasted like it sat in the freezer too long, or wasn't cooked all the way. My wipe had the special of the day which was meatloaf. It was so salty, that after two bites (one bite from her and one bite from me) we complained to the waitress. She said "oh really? You are the first person to order it today; I'll let the chef know." and she walked away. We waited expecting a new plate or at least an offer to make her something new, but the next time we saw the waitress, she brought the check which included the salty meatloaf. I don't remember what I had but we left commenting that we will never go back.

ABSOLUTELY the worse hamburger I've ever had... burnt/tasteless/and smaller than a jr whopper (the $1 variety) all for NINE (9) dollars. Absolutely incredible that they would serve this cardboard and call it a hamburger. Now with all the great casual dining places out there why in the world would anyone go to Niwot Tavern for a hamburger... why indeed... why did i? The beef stroganoff was like a soup... pathetic/awful. Why bother owning a restaurant that is beyond sub-par. Guess they make all their money on the bar. It's amazing to me that they can screw up Sysco's products with such flair. Niwot deserves better; Niwot Tavern customers deserve better. EEK!
(1)Ro T.
The food is mediocre at best. We used to enjoy eating here, it was close to home and the food was great. The last two times we were here, the quality of the food has been bad. I could not eat my meal the fish 'n chips were so greasy, the fries were not hot or crispy but limp and greasy. My husbands hamburger looked like a kid's hamburger it was so small and not cooked properly. I think their menu is too big, they should go back to a smaller menu and concentrate on delivering well prepared food.
(2)Jimie D.
Low-key atmosphere. Country style decor. The bartender, who is always there, is a very nice man who will have a conversation with you. The beer selection is good, and the prices very reasonable. The food could be A LOT better. Happy hour prices are good.
(2)PAUL V.
Service was ok, not exactly brimming with friendliness, we didnt look like the locals, kudos on their nachos though- cheese, salsa, guac and sour cream on the side, best thing was the serrano chiles and not the pickled kind. Real tasty. Kris' carne asada was tender, taste was off the charts with an interesting and decent chimichurri kind of dressing. Quaint setting.
(3)Patrick J.
Food was bland and tasteless...garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic in it. Wife's vegan vegetables also had miniscule taste. It still was fun to hang out on the patio and watch the people of Niwot. The best part of the dinner was the Guiness Stout. We should have made it up here earlier before the Sushi restaurant closed!
