I have been to the Minturn Saloon several times, and each time is better than the last. The staff is incredibly helpful, friendly, and willing to do whatever it takes to insure a wonderful meal. I highly recommend the man platter, which contains duck, quail, and ribs with an unbelievable jam. By far one of the top restaurants in the Vail valley.

Awful, awful, awful.. Did I mention this place is awful? Everything on this menu is either canned or microwaved. Our nachos looked like an alien gave birth to them they had been life in the microwave so long. Underneath the shield of cheese was a pool of oil. It was disgusting with not a bean to be found. The salsa they serve is Pace picante sauce, processed and canned. My duck fajitas were hardly Mexican- they came pre cut on a plate, over cooked, and smothered in some kind of sweet sauce. It tasted like old liver, it honestly didn't taste like duck at all. It was mystery meat. The rice wasn't cooked all the way through and the burritos are just open faced tortillas smothered with Pace picante and microwaved cheese. It was soggy in a pool of water. Minturn Saloon takes the gold metal for the worst Mexican food EVER. These people should be ashamed of serving this food to people and charging as much as they do. We paid 260.00 for 6 people and one only ate nachos and the other was a vegetarian. Absolutely repulsive. This is not a restaurant.

What makes this place good is the atmosphere and the chips and gaucamole. Beyond that the food is okay and the service is okay. This place is more about coming to meet friends, a place for having a few drinks and maybe, when your palate is destroyed a bit, eating something. Now given I did not eat any of the things that the waiter recommended...quail, ribs or duck, but I did have the arroz con pollo and it was uhhhhhhh interesting? Not exactly what I am used to, but okay. I made a meal out of it anyway. My son was funny too, when he got the kids nacho's he looked at it and said "It just looks like a bag of chips, where's the cheese?" I think I may take the $80.00 we paid for dinner somewhere else next time.

Been here a couple times before and it was ok, but the waiter recommended quail & cheese enchilada and it was dry., tasteless and barely edible. Was almost thinkng of sending it back but he never cane to check on us. And it wasn't even that busy so he didn't have an excuse. Last time for us. Oh and it's one of those places that just doesn't feel clean.

Best margarita in the county. I had the Natural Margarita along with their home-made queso and some guacamole...yum! The deck is surrounded by flowers and right on the river, but our bartender Bruce, and the historic Colorado atmosphere inside, give the deck a run for its money.Definitely a great place to stop with friends after a ride down the Minturn Mile!

Incredible rowdy atmosphere. Some of the best Marguritas in the entire Vail Valley. A must go restaurant when visiting Vail. I had drinks with friends just 2 evenings ago. It was a packed house and the menu is better. Great specials too!

If you're into divey dive bars, this is the place for you. My friends and I arrived before the place opened (what can I say, we were thirsty!) and the bartender welcomed us in for drinks. The drinks were cheap and strong, and even more enjoyable in front of the raging fireplace. I imagine there is a pretty good crowd for the live music on Friday nights - unfortunately I wasn't able to make it back to see for myself. Next time!

Come here for the atmosphere and margaritas, stay for the food. For a couple years now, we've gone skiing over my Brother's birthday. (Not on purpose, it just works out that he was born on a convenient skiing week.) Each year, he wants to come here for his birthday dinner. It's a tradition I hope we continue. The margaritas here are the best I've ever had from a restaurant. I recommend the "Natural" margarita, Milagro Silver, organic agave nectar, and fresh squeezed lime juice. Smooth, clean and fresh. Take the rest of my review with a grain of salt, after two "Naturals" they could serve me Taco Bell and I'd love it. The chips and salsa are above average. Ask for some hot salsa and they'll bring you a cup of a very spicy and flavorful chile paste, mix it into the salsa to your desired heat level. It's great. They have a basic tex-mex menu and a more interesting menu of "specialties", mostly grilled dishes. The only tex-mex item I've tried were the enchiladas (as part of a quail and enchilada plate) they're above average, but not spectacular. Of the grilled items, I've had or tasted the ribs, quail, strip steak, and duck breasts. They offer a variety of combinations of these, e.g. steak and quail, quail and enchilada, or a mixed grill. The ribs are just ok. They were relatively bland and mushy, I suspect they're boiled and finished on the grill. I didn't care for their barbecue sauce. I'll get my ribs elsewhere. The duck breast was good, but the meat was very "ducky". If you don't like the rich dark flavor of duck I wouldn't recommend them. The skin was slightly chewy, not as crisp as I'd like. The steak was of great quality and perfectly cooked. Great beefy flavor. I like mine slightly more seasoned, but I can understand them wanting the beef to shine on it's own. A shake of salt and a dab of the hot salsa perfected it. The best of all is the quail. It's the best quail I've ever had and I love quail. Juicy, smoky, well seasoned, tender and sweet, they're so good. Portions are huge. Most of the specialties are accompanied by a generous spread of rice, beans, tortillas and salad. I don't recall any of these being great, but I'm usually too full of steak and quail to get around to eating much of the sides anyway. Service has never been stellar. It's pretty obvious the staff all have their focus on the ski slopes (pretty typical for the area). But the servers are friendly and fun. Prices are a little on the high side, but not unreasonable for the quality, portions and location.

Waited and hour and the host was a terribly rude dick. We have a very hard time being seated. I am not even to eating yet. My martini was Atleast ok but truly, in this haven on the mountains, I would pick somewhere else to eat

Having a craving for Mexican while on vacation in Vail, we decided to stop in based on yelp reviews. Got there early after a day of hiking. Place was quiet with just a few locals. Bartender Bruce, mixed us some excellent margaritas, paired with chips and salsa (serve yourself style -the best way). He is super friendly and sounds like Wolfman Jack lol! I ordered enchiladas, one chorizo, one chicken with two of their homemade sauces. My man ordered a beef and a pork chimichanga. Everything was excellent! Not that microwave Mexican you get at most places! Nice size servings. I actually ate the WHOLE THING, which is rare! Ambiance is casual and really laid back. The town of Minturn is sort of Alaskan/hipster/bohemian wrapped into one. I highly recommend the Saloon!

I suspect the folks who express outrage for the Saloon are the same types who are looking for the back nine over at the Minturn Country Club. The assumptions and expectations are really funny. While it's true my shirt was sticking to the back of the booth thanks to ... I don't want to know what, the fish tacos I had here were pretty good. Chips and salsa were fine; they looked like chips and salsa you could get pretty much anywhere. For dessert, the fried ice cream was rather tasty. There's some sort of fried pastry thing on the bottom of the scoop; it made for a nice vessel to sop up the melted yumminess. Beer was cold, memorabilia on the walls plentiful and interesting, and wait staff both friendly and prompt with refills and followup. If you come here fresh from a trip to Vail's finest, you'll be in for a let-down. Know that going in, and you'll probably have a decent meal both in taste and price.

The Minturn Saloon is a must stop if you are in the Vail Valley. The quail is superb, especially when accompanied with a margarita. It tends to be a bit slower in the summer, but during ski season it is hopping.

I was really excited to try this place when visiting a friend in town, but was overall not too impressed. The service was great, and it was very nice to sit outside on their patio. However, the food seemed very overpriced ($8 for a small cup of guac?!). I recommend coming here to enjoy a few drinks and an app, but wouldn't stay for a full meal.

I really love this place. It just has that great Colorado Saloon feel. I could spend many a night here boozing it up if I lived in Minturn. It's a must see if you're in the Vail area or want to take a quick stop for lunch/dinner off of I-70. The food here has a focus on Mexican and despite what may seem counter intuitive to the Colorado tourist, the state has great Mexican food. The Saloon has a ton of tequilas to choose from and they make a good margarita. The service has been above par all times I've been there, with a friendly staff that engages you personally in some way. Tip: Order the quail & enchilada platter. Both the quail & the enchiladas are delicious and it's just so odd that they're paired together. For $17 it's a ton of food.

the waitress said they specialize in ribs and Quail-I thought..."that's an interesting combination" and went with the ribs with a margarita while my wife went for the Mexican samplings. I wish I would have gone Mexican as the ribs weren't great and we had literally driven here just to eat at this place. the ribs were nothing great and the margarita was very strong-overall I would definitely come back a couple times to check it out, as it was a very cool atmosphere with a deck outside that I bet rocks in the Summertime-and who knows...maybe it was a bad ribs day-I'll be back to confirm

At the end of the day, if you still have some energy, you can hike a bit and then back country ski down to the Minturn Saloon. What awaits is a cowboy meets Mexican (is that where the word Tex-Mex comes from?) apres ski. With good margaritas, some decent salsa and huge portions of some fine Mexican food, I can't really say enough about this place. It does get PACKED, so if you're coming here for dinner, be prepared to wait, which isn't so bad so long as you've got a beer or a margarita in your hand. Now, if you do choose to ski there yourself, I HIGHLY recommend you have someone else in your party go down the mountain and pick up a car and drive over to Minturn. If you've got no ride home, you're evening might not end on such a happy note. ;)

What a great find this place was a true Colorado small town saloon. We wandered in after a long day of hiking and driving in the summer. The bartender couldn't have been nicer...the beer selection was fantastic as was the food which has a Mexican skew. A great local spot...It would be my local if I lived in Minturn...

really enjoyed the atmosphere and staff. They have free wifi and addictive margaritas. The outside area is perfect next to the river and the owner is very accommodating to groups. We had our Social Media Club Vail meeting there.

The Minturn Saloon should be a required stop for anyone visiting the Vail, CO area. Not only will it feel like you're stepping back in time - I truly imagined miners sidling up to the bar and getting their drink on - but the service is great and the food is excellent with generous portions. I highly recommend the Mixed Grill (quail, rib & duck meat all on one plate - the duck was to die for). And don't forget the fried ice cream for dessert - truly amazing. And a special shout out to our server, Dana, who kept the banter light and fun and kept our party laughing the whole night. Try and request her section when you go - she was a riot.

We heard that the Minturn Saloon had good food and great atmosphere. I agree that the Saloon is cool to look at and read about. The service was great and the waiter was very nice. The salsa was okay, but was even better with their special hot sauce. I had an enchilada and the chicken was not seasoned well at all. It was much better with the white cheese sauce. The rice was swimming in a pool of liquid and it was tasteless. The Saloon also had a funny smell to it, but I got used to it after a while. I guess it's because it is so old. It was really expensive for Mexican food. We were not charged for an extra plate, but the menu stated that you would be charged if you shared. The portions were HUGE! Which is great, but it forces you to share or take home leftovers.

Howdy Partner! Step back in time at the Minturn Saloon with it's quirky, homey and crude decor and servers. Crude is not meant to be an insult, rather the decor and servers add to the environment. This place has enough character plus, some. The plank floors, signed movie star pictures on the wall, sun withered, long haired wait staff that have been with the restaurant for for 20+ years, enormous bull horns hanging-yep it's an experience. Now, the food is Mexican with an offering of thick and tasty barbecue as well- not exceptional, but with pitchers of beer or margaritas to wash it down the caliber goes way up. Try this place after a long day of skiing as the portions and the atmosphere is huge....bring along a bunch of rowdy friends-this place is not for the quiet or shy-and be ready for a good time. I can almost see the rounds of tequila now...

Dont let the Saloon name discourage u, this place is a must see! This restaurant/western saloon is filled with autographed photos of ex-presidents, sports stars and movie stars. Food is outstanding and the atmosphere is just as good. Try the roast duck...out of this world good!

As you enter the warmth and cozy atmosphere of this place, you are greeted by all the memorabilia of this famous and historic establishment. Whether you are there to enjoy the bar and have drinks by the fire or if you are there to dine the Saloon is the place to be if you are visiting or live in the Vail valley. The menu consists of delicious tex-mex food with some specialty items, like quail, duck and ribs etc. I would say its priced fairly for the area and the portions are on the bigger side. The essence of Colorado and ski lifestyle is present here, the welcoming staff always makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend this place.

Been coming here for a long time with the family. Service is usually good, never really had a terrible experience. I like the fact they have ribs. The house margaritas are not that bad, but usually I get one of the specialty margs because the house mix is too sweet for me. The chips and salsa are in my top five favorites.

I always reccomend a night at Minturn to the Vail visitors A nice escape from the over-priced foody spots in the immediate ski area. You'll have to drive since busses dont go there so be sure to tap a DD. The margaritas are strong and they keep them flowing. The food is western mexican including some pig specials. Enjoy!

Hey look, this is a classic place here in valley. I don't know exactly how many years it has been here but probably since Vail was initially built. If you want fine dining and/or high end service then stay in Vail or Beaver! Good but not great food with a predominate Mexican bend. The bar is great with literally a million stories to be told about the bar and in the bar. Always great for apre ski and telling all those wonderful lies about what a great run you had into some back country bowl where you where actually horrified. Great place to meet and get a ride home if you exit Vail by doing the "Minturn Mile", it drops you out sort of behind the place and on the other side of the rail road tracks. Drinks are solid but can get pricey if you want the up scale Margaretta's for instance. Easy to get to from either Vail of Beaver. Kid friendly but bring them early as the bar can get a little crazy at times. Compared to other places in around the Vail valley this place is relatively cheap. Recommend and will return.

We always have a good time here. It is one of my top destinations when in the area. The place has been here a long time. My first visit was in the late 70's. This is great fun with your ski group. You arrive and start the wait for your table. Get some drinks at the bar, I recommend the pitcher of margaritas. You will meet some other folks and share stories of your skiing. Then you move on to some high carb Mexican food to replenish your energy levels. More than the meal itself, the saloon is an experience.

Well been eating here since I was a little kid and can say that I have expeirience just about everything form great service, great food to a waitres who has the best dirty jokes in the business to people dancing on the tables to one hell of a roudy place to falling down in my ski boots in the bar after two many margs and getting cut off to fights in the bar to great frinds in a great old school establishment. I think I have just about seen it all. The food is always great, the margs are always cold and tasty, I would recommend if you ski well enought that somtime in your life make the back country trip out of the ski area and ski the midturn mile, than make your way over to the Saloon for drinks. It will be something you will remember for the rest of your life unless you live here, than you should make the trip at least once a year. Just make sure you plan on getting a ride back to Vail, no bus service. Great place to visit for the out of town people, not a new high teck resturant buy anymeans but very old school which make this place different and one of a kind.

I have lived in the Vail Valley for the entire time the Saloon has been open. EVERY time i eat there I feel sick after my meal. I tried to give it another shot and I didn't even get there because the server chose to ignore us not once but twice. The restaurant was not busy and there was no excuse. The server looked like she was going out of her way to ignore us. I will never eat at the Saloon again. This is not the first time I have had less than welcoming service. If I wanted to feel less welcome I would go to the Avon Post Office.

The Saloon is simply a must for the Vail Valley. I recommend that any visitor in Vail or Beaver Creek gets to minturn for one night out. First, the bar is perfect. Spacious, with free chips and salsa, the drinks are excellent. The Tequilla/Margarita menu is simply the best in the vail valley. The beer selection is also extensive, and they feature the best of CO's microbrews and spirits. The food is simply good tex mex, with some saloon specialties like Pato veracruz and 3X quail. The food is consistently tasty, and reasonably priced in comparison to any other restuarant within 20 miles. The ambiance is unique and the service is superb. It is a Vail Valley mainstay, and not one to miss. Only minutes from Vail Village. We come to the saloon every year. If you want this type of food, leave the base area and go to minturn instead!

Place was packed. Could not get near the bar. Food was very good: quail app, fish tacos and#2 combo. Great speed ski place. Waitress Dana was a gem. Will return!

Visited Minturn Saloon again while skiing in Vail recently and felt the need to update my review and add a star. The ahi fish tacos were recommended by the server and were quite good. Still not a must-visit for us, but a solid 3-star meal and a fun place to grab a bite in Minturn.

We went to Minturn Saloon based off of Yelp reviews and I have to say it is the only time Yelp has let us down. It was our last night of a very lovely vacation. We sat outside on their very nice patio and overlooked the beauty of that area. That was pretty much the end of the niceties. The waiter was fine, he was earnest and it's not his fault the food was terrible. I can't say for sure but the salsa shared an uncanny resemblance to Pace Picante sauce. The guacomole wasn't seasoned at all. We got the fajitas and they were horrible. They were in a pool of liquid and not hot at all. We each had one tortilla worth then left. I had the steak and it was not cooked right and old. He had the chicken and it was dry and tasteless. Both of us were sick to our stomachs through to the next day. It robbed us of a pleasant evening at the hot tub and we didn't appreciate it. The kicker of it was the bill came to $60. We have a Mexican restaurant in Memphis that is to die for and it's 1/4 the cost. It was the only sour point of several days of tasty dining.

I'd give it 5 stars for the old time saloon atmosphere and 3 stars for the food. I would not have guessed from the name that the menu consisted of "Mexican" cuisine and I think they'd be better off serving more traditional pub fare.

I have gone to the Saloon every time I am in the Vail Valley. It is perfect for apres ski coming right off the Minturn mile. They have a pretty great variety in their food- from Mexican to steak. My favorites are definitely the duck and ribs. The duck is a must have if you have never been! But the ribs are always delicious. The chips are homemade and good... best paired with the queso dip (you can even ask for them to throw in some chorizo to make it extra tasty). I love the atmosphere, lots of fun signatures and pictures to see hanging around the bar.

I think the Minturn Saloon might suffer just a tad in this review because it has such a great reputation. I was explaining to my boyfriend (who is from out of town) that pretty much everyone has heard of Minturn Saloon, and that it's supposed to have great Mexican food. To be fair, it has pretty decent Mexican food FOR THE MOUNTAINS. It's just not very authentic, or seasoned as I have come to expect Mexican food to be seasoned... you know, spicy and maybe with some cumin, etc. I mean, if you plopped this place in Kansas, those people would go wild. But this is Colorado! We have strong expectations! I had a vegetarian burrito the first night we went, which was good and flavorful, just not amazing. Especially for $14. A few days later, we went back and I had the fajitas, which were much better. The beef was really tender and, perhaps for the first time in the history of fajitas, not ridiculously overcooked. The chicken was a little overcooked, though. The guacamole was really good, and of course, the margaritas were amazing. All in all, a place I would happily visit when I am in the mountains- definitely for drinks, maybe for Mexican food after a few drinks. But other than that, I will scratch my Mexican food itch here in Denver.

My family and friends enjoyed a great meal at the saloon. They have call ahead reservations which allowed us to be put on the list. Once we arrived we had a sort wait before being seated. While we waited for our table we enjoyed drinks from the bar and complementary nacho chips and salsa. Our waiter was the best. He started by telling us to ask him any question. He if did not have a answer he would make one up! He wanted us to refer to him as dirt and he pointed out that his co-worker was older than dirt. Really nice guy who especially catered to my two kids. He had plenty of stories to share during his frequent trips to our table. The food was great. Their specialty is Quail, Ribs, and Duck so we enjoyed the combination platter. They also have the standard bar food, i.e. chicken, burgers, etc. done as a Mexican dish. Whenever I make it back to Beaver Creek/Vail I would not miss having dinner at the Minturn Saloon. This is what you expect a ski bar would look like!

Great place to stop by and have a drink or two. But get your food somewhere else. I've been here a few years ago and remembered the food, especially the quail, being very good. On our recent camping trip, we came to the Saloon on Saturday evening for dinner. Our waitress was very sweet and deserves an A+ for making the food sound very yummy. We ordered the fish taco special (20 bucks), enchiladas and the steak and quail (33 bucks). The steak was the only thing that was ok. Just ok. Everything else was below average and absolutely not worth the $$$$. All plates came with a side of very tasteless rice and bland beans. The fish tacos had way too much shredded lettuce and came in a large flour tortilla instead of corn tortilla. Although they used Cajun seasoning on the fish, it was very boring, especially for 20 dollars. The quail was another disappointment. Not the delicious, crispy skinned quail i remembered. Overall, I wouldn't come back to eat here. Just for a few drinks at the bar.

True Colorado small town eating. Excellent Service! We ordered three meals and the food was very tasty. The salsa was not outstanding, but good. The enchiladas with shrimp were the best. Lots of atmosphere. A fun place to go!

Cuervo Tradicional Margaritas, chips with salsa and guacamole, and the best quail this side of the Mississippi. Enough said! I will say it was far quieter than expected...I've been going here for probably 15 years now and have never seen it so dead during peak ski season! Great to not have to wait for a table but the crazy packed scene is part of its charm. The food was still excellent though! Ask for the special hot stuff to spice up the salsa!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
