Very straightforwardly good bistro. I wouldn't recommend it for people that want to do something pretentious or fancy, since this place focuses on being good over feeling high-end. Miso soup as a free starter was nice. Their Hana roll and Hawaiian roll were both excellent. Tried a couple of appetizers and the fried banana, and everything was generously portioned and well-done. Agedashi Tofu could have used a bit more savory/acid bite, but I guess they preferred it on the traditional side. Also, people there are super-nice. We had a group next to us, and they did the whole birthday song deal for a 12 year-old girl; it was super-sweet. On that note, really good for groups.

We've gone to this restaurant occasionally over the years, but we'll be back more often in the future as they've really upped their game. The service on our last two trips was particularly quick, friendly and accommodating. We normally order sushi, and while there are things I miss on the menu, most every roll and certainly the sashimi was comparable to what you'd get at a more pricey place in Boulder.

Very good food. Vist one: Alone. Great service! Great authentic food. Good visit. 5 Star. Visit two: Next night with 2 co-workers. Restaurant was a little busier, however it was obvious they were understaffed. 2 people serving inside and out. Great food. 2 Star. Have to believe based on other reviews that visit two was an anomaly. Thus the 4 Star. I will go back.

Locally our new favorite sushi, they're not on par of the higher end Denver and Boulder establishments, but as locals in the 80027 it is convenient, welcoming, and quite good. We had the Hamachi collar (posted pic) and it was better than I've had elsewhere. The hosts are friendly and the liquor pricing is competitive. One item to note is that they add some oshinko, beet, and seaweed to the plating, along with the typical ginger and "wasabi paste". That is a nice addition and not found at other restaurants.
(4)Chelsea K.
The sushi here is awesome. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because the last two times we went, the rolls were really light on the rice. Otherwise I love the food! Good service, they bring a miso soup to your table right away and are very attentive. Good sushi at a good price in a nice environment. ESPN is usually on so I've got no complaints :)
(4)Samantha L.
They have Gyu Don! Enough said :) I love Japanese and the food here was really good. I ordered the Gyu Don and the crab and cucumber roll. The server brought out a salad and soup before we even ordered. Everything was neat and I really liked the ambiance. They even have a long sushi bar. I will definitely be back!

We have been regularly going to Hana for about a year. We most often get take out. They have a sushi dinner for two which is a great deal for the amount of delicious fish you get. They also have affordable rolls. The sushi chefs and staff are very friendly. We have never been disappointed with the quality of our sushi. We love Hana!! It's our favorite sushi place in the Boulder area.

Went for lunch with a coworker. Food was just fine but service was a big disappointment. My coworker decided to try the place out as he had received a gift card to Hana. Upon arriving he mentioned the gift card and the server said they couldn't accept it because no one had the password to enter it into the POS. We ordered anyway and paid shortly after we order as to expedite the visit. His dish (udon lunch dish) showed up in a reasonable amount of time. 10 minutes went by and my order was no were in sight. I flagged down one of the servers, as our server didn't visit our table until the end of our visit. Another 10 minutes go by and I go to the counter near the kitchen and ask for my order to go as my coworker had finished his meal. 5 minutes later the original server finally come with my meal in a bag and sends us a very insincere "sorry." Spend over a half hour here without getting to eat anything besides the miso soup and the salad. Had high hopes especially based on reviews; was very let down.

Pretty good lunch deals. $12 for 3 rolls & miso soup & salad is a good deal in my book. They give you the full roll (8 pcs) so you actually get full :) Sushi was decent but I didn't get raw stuff. Out of the cooked rolls, I enjoyed the eel + avocado roll the most. Tempura shrimp lunch rice bowl came with 2 large tempura shrimp & sauce over rice & miso & salad. $9.50 about. Roti Canai was OK- $4 for a very small portion. I wouldn't recommend this one. Ambiance was very nice & spacious & well-decorated. I enjoyed sitting in the booth along the walls. The service was also very good.

Excellent fresh food! Very busy for a dinner service. Friendly staff and good choice of sake (Japanese rice wine). Amazed at how fresh the fish was considering this place was nowhere near an ocean! For dinner, we ordered the Yosenabe (traditional Japanese hotpot), sunomono (cucumber salad) and sushi deluxe plate. Yosenabe was perfect and on point. The broth was genuine Japanese dashi and packed with lots of stuff - made a meal for 2. The cucumber salad we ordered did not come with any cucumbers, but only some marinated octopus, eel, fake crab meat, and some Japanese mint in a light vinegar dressing - sort of a bummer since the salad was missing the cucumbers thinly sliced! The sushi plate said yellowtail but there was none to be found - it had Tai / snapper which was not close. They need to inform the customer that they ran out of yellowtail and substituted. Otherwise, fresh fish and did not make me sick which is a great reason to believe the fish was good.

Only thing. Wife asked for a gluten free menu. They didn't have one so she ordered the chicken teriyaki. They said that the teriyaki was gluten free. She was sick afterwards. Foods good, but be careful if you only eat gluten free.
(4)Byron B.
Visited here for lunch today with a coworker on the way to a meeting. Service was friendly and very prompt. We were out the door in 30 minutes. The food was good, but not amazing. I had salmon teriyaki and the complimentary miso soup and pickled salad. The salmon was served on a smoking hot skilled with mushrooms, onions, and zucchini. The fish tasted fresh and the flavor was good-not too sweet and syrupy. My coworker had the udon and thought it was average. Good experience overall.
(3)Lucy V.
Perhaps it's because I came during lunch and just ordered a lunch special (choose two rolls for $8.50) but it was nothing special. I chose the following: Salmon & Avocado roll: it was good - average Yellow Tail & Scallions roll: again, good but average If you dine in, you automatically get miso soup and picked cucumbers which I enjoyed very much. Maybe it's because of the items I chose or because I'm from CA, but I can get way better sushi for a cheaper price elsewhere. But, they have a friendly staff which is always a plus.
(3)Jessica C.
Really fantastic sushi that is more affordable and better quality than most sushi places in Boulder. Nice decor. Fresh and delicious sashimi - especially the fatty tuna and mackerel. Excellent spicy tuna, caterpillar, and lion roll. Great green tea, gluten-free mochi balls. They have gluten free soy sauce. Only complaint is the service can be sub-par on busy Friday nights. Had to ask twice for miso soup and gluten-free soy sauce. And I was HANGRY so having my sushi in front of me but no soy sauce was a tease. But, our visit on Wednesday night was a five star experience.

We went here, recommended by another sushi chef when we mentioned we like Malaysian food, specifically roti canai. The roti canai was delicious--slightly flakey fried flatbread, with a savory (and a bit sweet) curry dipping sauce. We also ordered a curry udon soup (full of flavor with fish cake and chicken), chicken curry (perfect seasoning and amount of sauce), tempura shrimp, and beef rice bowl. Everything was delicious! We haven't tried the sushi yet--a bit on the expensive side--but we are impressed! Service was friendly and prompt. Restaurant was cute, quiet and clean.
(5)Kristin H.
We go here all the time for some fast and good sushi. Get the gyoza, it's always great!
(5)Mike S.
Sushi snob here, born and raised in the Great Northwest (Portland), so it's tough for me to drop a 5* bomb on any Japanese restaurant... Fought this from the second I walked in, but the service was phenomenal, very clean and trendy buildout, extremely fresh sashimi and Spicy Salmon hand roll threw me over the edge. Don't be an idiot, eat here... I'll be back go sheezy.
(5)Ty O.
Call it sushi snobbery (probably more so ignorance), but unless the place isn't located in Denver proper, it's not even on my radar. You can now consider my range to have been expanded to include Louisville. We sat at the bar and ordered omakase style, leaving everything we were served entirely up to our personable chef, Ray. He absolutely delivered. None of various the sashimi, ceviche and nigiri creations he presented us were your standard fare: there were unexpected textural and flavor embellishments to each dish that only served to enhance the freshness and quality of the central ingredient (i.e., the fish). Overall, it was a very enjoyable and satisfying experience, one that I will not hesitate to repeat or recommend to others to try.
(5)Peter H.
I was really surprised to find such a great restaurant hidden from the main streets of Louisville. The katsu don here is really tasty, though a bit expensive at $11. I also like their udon, and tofu dishes too. I like to come here on a cold day with the gf as it's usually quiet and warms us up!
(4)Al S.
I just tried the lobster spicy tuna avocado salad and not only was the presentation beautiful it tasted amazing!!!
(5)Dave T.
I was here on Sunday and was very happy with the food and service. The white tuna with mustard miso was to die for. I also enjoyed the freshman go in the mango salad and a very tasty beef negi maki. The sushi was fresh and the wasabi was good quality as well. Good place!
(4)Lawrence P.
Very nice setup and even better food! You can tell they take great pride and joy in their food. Everything we had tasted garden fresh...I've been to some sushi places where you can tell the veggies or meat was from Costco freezers but not this place. Very tasty! From the miso soup, chicken teriyaki, to the sushi...excellent food! It was so good I didn't drink anything just do I could finish all my food Lol!
(5)Leith S.
This place is a real hidden gem. In a non-descript strip mall, with a (now closed?) old crappy cinema, you wouldn't expect to find really good, fresh fish. But you do. While the service can be a little strange at times, I count it as part of the charm. The waitstaff is always trying very hard to please. The Chirashi bowl is an awesome value. Heaps of tasty raw fish on a bed of sushi rice. Fabulous. If you're looking for something different, they have some malay dishes also--I like the prawn laksa.
(5)Mmmm W.
While the service is a bit slow, the sushi is not bad given that it is in Louisville. Best sushi place we've found in/near Louisville (w/o having to go to Boulder or Denver). Nice ambiance. We called in a takeout order once, and when I arrived to the restaurant to pick it up, they had accidentally given my order to someone else. The waitress was annoyed (me, too!) and made it seem like it was my fault. They remade my order, but, of course, I had to wait for them to remake it. It would've been nice to have been offered a discount or a comp item.
(4)Bryan A.
Huge menu, great sushi. Always fantastic.

This is a chill spot with very authentic Japanese food. I thoroughly enjoyed the cold soba tempura. It had quail egg which I've never experienced before. Tuna and avocado roll is good. Very reasonable prices s and nice variety of food. I would eat here again.

Was here with A.W for lunch on Saturday September 8th 2012, after running some errands in this part of neighborhood. Time was at about 12:10hrs ish. When we entered this establishment, there is a family of 4 dining away inside. I know there are several seating areas outside the "Patio" but arent sure if there are any other patrons at that lunch hour. I was wondering how come at that hour, there are NOT many other patrons for Lunch. Is this a good sign or a bad sign? We were given the menu. The menu is "lengthy" hence there are plenty to choose for Everyone's Palate. The prices at Hana Japanese Bistro are breakdown into these : * Appetizers & Side Dishes ($3.50-$10.00) * Chef's Special Rolls ($6.80-$12.50) * Chef's Suggestion ($5.20-$16.00) * Asian Classics ($4.00-$7.00) * Curry Noodle Soup ($9.00-$10.00) * Main Entrees ($12.50-$15.00) to name a few..... While we go thru our menu, the server provide us Miso Soup and Pickle Vegetable aka Salad of some kind. I like the Miso Soup and the Salad with a "spicy kick". Perhaps with the dust of Togarashi on the Salad??? A.W opt for Oyako Don ($8.50). While I opt for these items : * Baked Mussel ($6.00) * Fried Calamari ($8.50) * Oyster Fry ($5.00) * Wasabi Tobiko Spicy Nigiri ($4.30) * Sweet Shrimp aka AmaEbi ($6.30) * Sea Urchin Nigiri ($9.50) * Eel (Unagi) Nigiri (4.50) Both A.W and I shared the Roti Canai ($4.00) As for Desserts we opt for Green Tea Ice Cream ($3.50) and Mochi Ice Cream ($3.95). The service was prompt, inviting and efficient. Hana Japanese Bistro, you have 3 stars in my books because : * Most of the sushi/nigiri items I order was A-OKAY, nothing stellar nothing fancy. The Nigiri are slightly of small portion, aka the proportion of seafood compared to the rice portion NOT balance. At least all the nigiri tasted fresh, NOT fishy at all. Comes on my Sushi/Nigiri Plate, the pickled vegetables. Was it beets of some kind?? * My order of Baked Mussels was "over-flavored" with the "Dark Sweet Sauce" hence making this item overly too sweet for my taste bud. Please refrain from doing so.... *Sad Face* * The Fried Calamari, though tender, the batter is too soft aka undercooked in certain areas. Perhaps before the "batter cooks", hence when arrived at our table, the "battered" - Fried Calamari looks so pale. I am still curious about the "dipping sauce" that comes with the Fried Calamari. Hmm..... * The Oyster Fry is A-OKAY. Not too fishy. Battered was done right. * From A.W feedback, she was slightly disappointed with her order of Oyako Don. Coz for one, the chicken was tough. The rice was over-cooked. The rice portion is more than the portion of chicken and the egg. It was not "creamy" like what she prefers her Oyako Don to be. *Sad Face* My highlight meal was from the Roti Canai. YES, finally an establishment, aka The Owner / The Kitchen crew who can make the ROTI CANAI, right. The kind of Roti Canai cook in Singapore or Malaysia, with the correct consistency, flavor and portion. To add the YUMMYNESS of this Roti Canai, Hana Japanese Bistro offer the Curry. The kind of Curry I grew up with and even with REAL Curry Leaves in the Curry itself. Stellar Curry to boot, Yo! I so wish I could have more of this Roti Canai and the Curry. Feel like "licking the bowl" during that lunch hour but I did not! A.W like her order of Green Tea Ice Cream though I feel the Mochi Ice Cream was a let down. *Sad Face* Therefore, Hana Japanese Bistro, you still have plenty of room for improvement in my books. I dont mind returning with Hubs when schedule permitting and perhaps see how it may differ and who knows, can get the chance to talk to Eric Chong, the owner of Hana Japanese Bistro. @126/2012

Decided to try Hana because of the high ratings on Yelp. Each person in our dinner party agrees that the experience was less than satisfactory and only deserves 1 star. The sashimi was just okay. It initially seemed to have a fishy smell. I have never been to a sushi place where I smelled and inspected each piece if fish individually to make sure it seemed fresh enough to eat. The udon noodles were very greasy as was the roti canai. The sunumono was very sweet. The service was poor and quite disappointing - an additional reason why I decided to yelp. Japanese food is my absolutely favorite type of food. However, I would not revisit this restaurant even if the meal was complimentary.

A Friday night staple. Every week we are greeted by a friendly staff! Treated to fresh delicious sashimi and unique dishes. Presentation is always picture worthy! Great experience not to be missed!

Hana very good. Me like a lot. Seriously it's an excellent low key Japanese restaurant. Service is fast. Food especially sushi is really good. Been here several times. Will be back.

Hana Japanese Bistro, like most Japanese places run outside of California, is owned by Chinese people. Usually in these cases, there's just a little something missing. Hana is no different. - Ambiance (4/5) The atmosphere and decor are rather sophisticated. The only complaint is the unfinished ceiling. I'm fine with the industrial look, but then don't have visible, red wiring hanging out. - Service (2/5) Lunch hour was not that busy, so the somewhat frazzled service was a bit puzzling. Water was not re-filled until the end, and the check took a long time to come. - Miso soup & salad (3/5) The texture of the miso soup was a little grainier than I'm used to, and the salad portion was laughably small. - Chirashi, $12 (2/5) There's a lot in this bowl-- salmon, tuna, snapper, octopus, egg, imitation crab, and various pickled vegetables. The fish was undeniably fresh (in fact, I got to see the chef butchering some of it). Unfortunately, the chef's knife skills are lacking. Different pieces of fish were hacked to different sizes, and for the first time in my life, I bit into a piece of sushi with a fish bone in it. The pickled vegetables were an unexpectedly nice touch, and Hana does use proper rice in the chirashi bowl. But, that bone ruined it for me. - Value (4/5) At $12, this lunch chirashi is actually a great value, so long as you don't care about how your sushi looks. While there were some missteps, the good value helps bump its rating up a notch.

I really like these guys, and hope they make it in this location - it seems like this is about the third incarnation of a Japanese place in this spot. I love the diverse menu, and the way the chef and waitress are so knowledgeable and friendly. They sold us on the virtues of the "white salmon" collar over our usual hamachi, and also got me to try a huge, delicious curry soup - I think it's from Singapore. The whole family enjoys the food here, so we'll certainly be back soon.
(5)Lois B.
First off, why and how does this restaurant have an average of 4.5 stars?! The restaurant had a great vibe when we walked in, but there were countless flies of all sizes in the restaurant. We ordered shumai as an appetizer and received what I eat at home, frozen shumai from the store. My husband ordered the sashimi dinner deluxe and received only five different kinds of fish which is fine. However, you should've seen how thin the octopus was! I couldn't believe it. He also got five pieces of white fish(tilapia) on the 'deluxe' dinner. Most of his pieces looked ripped on the edges. The chefs here really don't know what they're doing. What's even worse is that I ordered two pieces of yellowtail and received two pieces of white fish. The quality of fish here is less than average too which is reflected on the price. I am confident that I'll be able to find better quality elsewhere for this price.
(2)Andrew K.
Fantastic experience. Great atmosphere matched with great food. Can get busy at times but they look after everyone well. A casual place with a great variety of food - not just sushi.
(4)Liz O.
We came here only for my JT to get his giant clam fix. To our surprise they offered it here but the tail only. I ordered the the udon noodles and it was yummy! Over all experience the staff are really friendly. We got edamame and miso soup before we even ordered. The cucumber salad wasn't so great. To sweet for me.
(4)sjski B.
Just had lunch here for my birthday and was greatly disappointed. I felt like the waitress was annoyed that we were even there...and heaven forbid if we ask for anything, like no wasabi because I'm allergic. I could overlook the poor service, but the food was not very good either. I had sesame chicken and it was so hard I could barely eat it, and I have very strong teeth! Super thin chicken + over cooked food = almost inedible food. Overall, it was only meh. Far better choices around, that's for sure!
(2)Renu D.
Roti Canai and the curry is Epic here! Seriously Epic. Finally someone in Colorado who knows their Malaysian food. Blissful! I also love the tempura. While the Sushi compares to other places, it does help to have sushi place in Louisville where you can go and not worry about the quality of the ingredients used. Is it the best sushi in town? No! But hey it is right where the lunch stop is, so I am a happy cookie.
(4)Daniel S.
Awesome! Solid portions of amazing fresh fish. Exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? Ripe avocado too!

So good, so fresh. The food is flavorful and so delicious. One of my new favorite places.

2012 Review #198: I'm beginning to be convinced that there are no good restaurants that *aren't* in strip malls. Came here for lunch based on the yelp reviews. My mom and I both got bento boxes, hers chicken teriyaki, mine chicken negimaki. Both come with miso soup, pickled veggies, a spring roll, 4 pieces of California Roll, and rice. Everything was tasty. The negimaki and teriyaki seemed to basically have the same sauce, with the negimaki addition of green onion. The sauce was especially great with rice. The spring roll was very hot and fresh. My least favorite part was probably the california roll, which was just a bit bland to me. I would like to return to try their other sushi options, because that seems to be what people really rave about. At the end we ordered some adzuki-filled sesame balls. They came 4 to an order and arrived in adorable mini cupcake wrappers to keep them from rolling onto the floor. They were obviously made to order and were nice and crispy on the outside. the inside was definitely gooey, not like the vietnamese ones on Federal, but for the Japanese version these are a good rendition. This place isn't exactly the location or decor I'd want for dinner but next time I'm in the suburban area and want sushi I'd like to come back to give them a try. For a quick and $9 lunch, this is one of the best bets in Louisville.
(4)Jennifer E.
Stopped in for sushi to go and everyone was very friendly and the food was yummy!! Would love to stay for sushi next time... They have a nice little outdoor patio that looks very inviting on a warm night.
(4)Ingrid J.
Second review of Hana- my first said they had the best sushi in CO. Too bad they aren't busy enough to maintain their level of service and food quality. It's gone downhill on both counts. They've moved to fake krab, which is disappointing. The waitress who has provided me with great service in the past was super spacy and slow tonight. She forgot my soup, spent her time rolling utensils into napkins until I finally went over to ask for my check. Sad to see the decline. Not sure I'll be back. :-(
(3)Daniel N.
The Roti Canai was extremely greasy and flaky. The Sesame Chicken was over-fried and the panang chicken that we ordered extra spicy had no flavor or spice to speak of. Service was poor and given the cost of the meal, I expected a lot better. I'm shocked that the Yelp ratings are so high for this place.
(1)Chris H.
Awsome suish and ambience. Great traditional Japanese feel, family-run restaurant. I've eaten sushi all over the country and this is one of my favorite places. Support our local Japanese tresure!
(5)Jeri J.
The first time I ate here - the sushi was so good that I felt like it must have been a fluke. After spending four years in Colorado hoping to find sushi that was at least half as good as what we have back home (Southern California)... I was just waiting to be disappointed. Which is why it took me TEN visits to finally come to Yelp and rate. The fish is fresh - always. The service is prompt and friendly - always. Fresh sushi, great service and pretty amazing prices for what you're getting - I'd marry this place if I could.
(5)Stan P.
Now ask yourself, do you like Wasabi? Do you just love having Wasabi in Everything? I do mean everything. Do you love spending lots of money for really good fish and then being able to taste nothing but a huge quarter size dollop of Wasabi? I mean you could go to a good Asian Market and buy an entire jar of Wasabi and just spoon it into your mouth and save yourself a hundred dollars, but why would you do that when you can have that same entire jar of Wasabi right there on every piece of Sushi. Every. Single. Piece. Also, I am not sure the one Waitron for the entire full restaurant model is the one you want to persue and stay in business, really that should have been the first warning. I guess if this is the "Slow Food" model for Sushi, then Hana is way ahead of the game.
(1)Chris B.
Magnificent. Not just the ordinary run-of-the-mill sushi but something special as well, but really even the simple stuff is top notch. I'm from L.A. where sushi is everywhere and while there are some decent places around here this is one of the best. My compatriots didn't order the sushi so i got to try some of the "normal" dishes as well and wasn't disappointed. The service isn't exactly spectacular but good enough. Pleasant dining, great food, friendly staff.
(5)Lorraine S.
Hot night and it was the perfect temperature and atmosphere esp with the fairy lights sitting outside. Service was prompt and efficient. Two of us had the Chirashi which at $19.00 each was pretty expensive but the fish tasted like it had just swum in! Another had Seafood Laksa and I had the Katsu Don both were good and well priced. The pricing did include miso soup and pickles which was a nice surprise -- well done. Tea was replenished all through dinner, good one. We did not go for dessert as the meal size along with the soup and pickles were more than enough. The bill came quickly and I felt perhaps we should be leaving. Even though we didnt venture inside it looked like an intimate place to dine. There was a extensive and varied menu I think to suit all palates .. recommend. Note if you are looking for the same quality food at a more cost effective option go for lunch!!
(4)Erin T.
My boyfriend and I first discovered this hidden treasure when we went to Noodles & Co. and resolved to come back. We went for dinner and their menu was reasonably priced and their food amazing. For someone who grew up in Hawaii with great Japanese food always close at hand, it has been hard to find similar foods here in Colorado. The food here was as close as I've ever come to finding what I consider authentic Japanese food here. I'll even say that this restaurant would do well in Hawaii!! The staff was very friendly, welcoming and attentive. I've found my new favorite restaurant! I can't wait to go back and try their whole menu! I will be doing my best to support this new business - I hope you try them and do the same!
(5)Yue N L.
Fantastic place, the Japanese style decorations are classic, beautiful and varied sushi dishes. The fish is fresh, sushi is delicious. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend you try Rock Roll here, is awesome.
(5)Johnny N.
The best mackeral I have ever tasted. Better than in boulder, denver, etc.. Maybe sushi tora is better overall, and both are not that cheap. Nonetheless, this place is 100x better than all other sushi establishments. have only been there twice.
(5)Zach D.
I was in the area and happened to stumble upon this sushi joint while browsing Yelp... and let me tell you, It was a very pleasing stumble. Me and some acquaintances of mine go out for sushi on average, I'd say, about once or twice every two weeks. If we can't find a sushi restaurant around, then our fall back is typically "Happy Sumo" located in the Orchard Mall in Westminster. However, compared to this location, Happy Sumo is hardly sushi at all. Don't get me wrong, I like the american-ized sushi varieties from Happy Sumo from time to time (I adore their Vegas Roll), however Hana, to me, comes off as much more authentic and as a whole far more appetizing. Now to the meal(s): -HANA OYSTERS- I myself had never tried oysters before. I didn't want to have a bad experience with them at a low quality sushi bar and ruin them for me forever, but tonight was the night. I certainly wouldn't consider myself an oyster connoisseur, so my judging upon this dish is not exactly well researched, however these were delightful. People that joined me at Hana, however, are pretty experienced with oysters, and they commented that these were the best they had ever had at any sushi restaurant... so I can safely say that these are quality, and should not get passed up. They don't come "Plain Jane" like they do at a lot of other Japanese restaurants... they are served with a type of Tobasco sauce already in the shell, as well as other select spices, however nothing over bearing (Check out a picture of the "Hana Oysters" on my profile). All in all, very exceptional oysters. -PIZZA ROLL- This was a very delicious roll. The name threw me off a little bit, however I didn't let that prevent me from ordering it. As it is read on the menu: "Lion Eye (which is a seperate roll on the menu that contains tuna, white fish, and avocado) broiled with dynamite sauce." Typically, anything with dynamite sauce is scrumptious, however, this had a unique sense to it, as it was a roll inside of a roll. The flavors and ingredients mingled wonderfully. The one complaint I have is that a few slices of the roll fell apart pretty easily, but that didn't ruin the Pizza Roll for me, and when I return this will be ordered again. -IRON CHEF'S ROLL- As it is read on the menu: "Lobster tail tempura, cucumber, avocado, flying fish roe with spicy sauce." I wouldn't label the "Iron Chef's Roll" as one of my favorited rolls I've ever had, however it was appetizing. However, when the roll was brought to the table it had an extra ingredient in it, that being lettuce. This, I didn't favor all to well... as I thought the lettuce was very contradicting to the rest of the ingredients mixed in. It was ice burg lettuce too, the type you layer on deli sandwiches. Not the greatest combo in my opinion, however everyone's pallet is different. Besides the lettuce addition, the crunch of the lobster tail complimented the tenderness of the avocado, as well as the natural crunch of the cucumber very nicely. I would order it again. -BANG BANG ROLL- On the menu it reads as: "Tuna, crab meat, avocado, and spicy mayo." Nothing real crazy or unique. I wouldn't order this one again, simply because of its very basic structure. It had fine flavor and it would be great for a person of limited sushi experience... however for me it was a little bit too similar to "Tokyo Joe's" rolls, in which are very basic and somewhat boring. But like I said, not bad. As well as the rolls, I ordered several salmon, crab sticks, nigiri, and sea urchin. Salmon is best when it's real luscious and has a nice "melt in your mouth" texture, and these salmon cuts were all of the above. The nigiri was as well pleasing, however it fell apart very easily upon dipping into soy sauce. The crab sticks were what you would expect... they kind of have a universal style/taste that doesn't vary often. I'm not necessarily a big crab stick fan, so that is my biased opinion, however these weren't bad. Sea Urchin was another something I had yet to try. I hear very diverse opinions about it, however my personal taste buds do not favor this meat. It's nothing on the restaurant, as that is simply the natural flavor of the urchin. I'm glad I tried it, however I would not order again. Overall, Hana offers high quality Japanese cuisine, and I would strongly recommend to any sushi go-er. I urge you to order the Oysters, as I found them to be so satisfying that another 2 orders had to be delivered to my table. I also recommend the Pizza Roll, as it was unique and very good. I look forward to returning to Hana, and enjoying more of their menu options, and am incredibly pleased that I found this restaurant.

It was OKAY. I may have expected more because the reviews were high. I'm also somewhat of a sushi snob. Around here, I'd prefer to go into Denver for sushi, and I'm someone who doesn't really like going into Denver. Sushi is one of a handful of things that draws me there. We had some sushi, some sashimi, some rolls, and some other dishes. I thought the prices were comparable to a high end sushi restaurant, but the quality was not. It was just OKAY. The beef appetizer, which was recommended to us, was really nothing special. It was okay, though. Paltry serving of edamame. I did like the way they brought miso soup when we sat down. That was a nice touch. The tuna poke appetizer wasn't that good. Too salty and didn't have that yum factor I've had in other places. The sushi was hit and miss. One of the expensive rolls we ordered was done very poorly, in my opinion. The salmon on top was overcooked, and there was oil pooled in the bottom of the serving dish. Not the fresh, crisp kind of sushi I prefer. Some of the other rolls were pretty good, though, and I can see why some people like this place. It's probably better than most in the area. The friend who I was with thought it was very good, but he's the type who orders California rolls. My overall impression was that HJB was striving to be a five star restaurant ... but they didn't hit the mark. If the prices had have been lower, my standards would have been lower, too. I probably would have rated it a 2.5 if that was an option, and I wavered between rounding up or down from that. I chose down because I think the 4.5 star rating they had when I checked them out was inflated.

The service was great and the food was delicious. The sushi was fresh and they don't pile it with rice; like the other sushi places. i highly recommend this place. If you like traditional sushi, then you will definitely like this place. The food came out pretty fast.
(4)Mike R.
Great sushi at a great price. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The chef checks with the table every time we go. It's great to have a place that's consistently good in Louisville.

Try the wasabi pork shumai! It kicked me in the nose and I had tears in my eyes (yeah, it's spicy), and it was SO delicious! This place is fun for interesting combinations - rolls with macadimia nuts and mango sauce for example. I appreciated their creativity, and while not everything was quite my thing, it was fun to have something other than the usual California roll. For dessert I had sesame balls - fried dough around red bean paste, with sesame sprinkled on top. Fun!

I finally made it here today, i saw the great reviews a few weeks ago and was in town finally so i had the opportunity to try Hana. The menu is among the most diverse of any Japanese restaurant in the area. The sheer number of Japanese dishes is astounding. They have a good selection of domburi dishes which are fairly uncommon to see at Japanese restaurants around the boulder area. I menu is exciting with the wide range of plates available. We ordered the chicken katsu and a around 7 sushi rolls. Now i had pretty high hopes because i saw so many good reviews and i was not let down. I have no idea how there making there Sushi-zu (the sugar / vinegar mixture that goes with the rice to make sushi rice) but its mind boggling. The flavor of the rice alone is fantastic. That combined with the rice being cooked perfectly really sets the stage for an amazing sushi roll. The fish freshness could easily be compared to the fish I've had at sushi places in coastal cities. Definitely way above par for a land locked state. The technique in the rolls is also top notch. Often times at many places you'll get one or two peaces of a sushi roll that will fall apart, not here. All of the rolls where assembled evenly and with care. All of the rolls where perfectly shaped. The plating was great as well, all of the rolls where served on a plate atop a palm leaf. One thing i find about a lot of sushi is that if you take it home, its not all that great. Our leftovers were great too, we ordered way too much and had to take some home. I just got done eating my leftovers and they where way fresher than i expected, roughly 10 hours later! They weren't dry or falling apart, they where surprisingly fresh. Only slightly worse than when we had it fresh at the restaurant. The prices aren't bad ether, A lot of basic rolls are in the $4-6 range, with a few special rolls that are over $10. I'd say the prices here are on par with if not lower than many of the other Japanese restaurants in terms of sushi in the area. The off menu items are a bit costly however the sizes are large, the chicken katsu was around $14 but the portion was huge. If you wanna keep it affordable stick to the sushi! Our servers where attentive and we never had an empty glass of water or green tea. Eating here blew my mind today, Hana totally raises the bar on Japanese restaurants in the boulder area. Not just in quality of food, but also in quality of price. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the best Japanese restaurant I've had in the state of Colorado.

Hana is tucked in a small shopping area near the northbound side of the McCaslin Park N Ride. The first time I went, I ordered a popular and basic everyday Japanese dish, the Katsudon. You know a restaurant is not worth returning to if they mess up a simple but popular dish. To make things more exciting I also asked if the chef could make me a kind of sushi that wasn't on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised when they said they could make me the yummy Quail Egg Sushi (raw quail egg on a bed of fish roe and sushi rice). Both the Katsudon and the Quail Egg Sushi were excellent! This Thanksgiving weekend, a friend and I visited Hana again and sampled their other sushi, their salads and their chefs selection of rolls. We ordered the Rocky Roll. Despite the cheesiness of the name of this roll, I can tell you that the taste was exquisite and not cheesy at all. We also ordered a bottle of unfiltered Sake. So good! Impressed on the second visit! The staff is friendly and the chef seems to really care about the food he serves. He makes it a point to say hello. So glad this opened in my neck of the woods!

I had a craving for sushi and looked up places on Yelp to see what was close to work. Little did I know that I would find this gem. I ordered takeout - bento box ($9) of teriyaki chicken and it came with a small egg roll, chicken breast with salad, rice, watermelon, four california rolls and all the fixins' (wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce). I also added a side of maguro sashimi ($6.30) to see if this place was legit. Let me tell you, opening the takeout bag of goodies released a smell of awesomeness. The egg roll was crispy and not too oily, crisp cucumbers in the california rolls (and the rolls were warm) and the chicken was tasty. The teriyaki sauce was not sweet like "americanized" teriyaki sauce. This is authentic. More flavorful. You get a generous helping of rice (about 3/4 of a cup) and the miso was good - tofu was silky and the broth was not too salted...just right. The ROCK STAR was the maguro (tuna) sashimi. I fully expected to get thin slices, but no! These were nice and chunky - about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick. Mmmm. Nice texture - firm, yet smooth. And fresh. No hint of it being aged. This place is legit. I'll be going back soon.

First time here, but got take-out. I ordered the shrimp tempura but should have specified that I wanted the shrimp and vegetable tempura as I got about 6 pieces of just shrimp and no veggies. Pieces were ample but it was just a tad bit on the heavy side. I also ordered the seafood dynamite. The sauce is flavorful and the presentation for take-out was really nice! Wish they would use crab instead of Krab but then I suppose the price would be higher. I asked for extra rice and was glad I did as the sauce is quite rich...but tasty and so bad for your arteries (which is why you get it!) Service was very quick and friendly. The lady who rang me up even gave me some soda for free in a coffee type cup when I was disappointed to find they had no real to go bottle/canned drinks except for ramune (which I wasn't in the mood for). I would definitely come back and try to dine in. The setting is really nice and the booths look comfy. They have a nice extensive menu and I definitely want to try the sushi and see what it's like! Looking forward to coming back...! Then I think I will hopefully be able to give a higher rating :)

The food is fresh, traditional and fusion, and pretty well priced. Mid meal, if they aren't too busy, the chef will come out and explain where each fish came from and why he picks one over the other for each dish. Benefits of going during off hours! We really enjoy the renovations, we had been twice before and once after. There is more room, and you can see your sushi being prepared from all booths. Speaking of the booths, they have a large party one that could fit about 12 people (if you're friendly!), so it could be perfect for an event where you have loads of friends. With the menus you are brought hand towels and miso, then shortly after ordering your appetizers and rice arrive. There is never a point where you can get bored or sit around being hungry!

Yes yes yes.good authentic Japanese food. Come here and enjoy. I very much enjoy good authentic Japanese food, and Hana does a great job. Not just sushi, but a well rounded menu of great options. For example, if you love cold soba, you know it's hard to find at a restaurant, but these guys have it. They lean a bit heavy on the sweet and salty side at times with their soups and tempura. For example, the tempura batter can come off as a sweet cake and it's quite as delicate as some of the best tempura I've had. However, it's still a step up from most places and provides a satisfactory experience every time.

I enjoyed this restaurant on a Monday night with a group of twelve people. It was not very busy while we were there and the other tables appeared to be regulars. A few people in our group live in the area and gave nice menu recommendations. Some in our group had traditional Asian entrees, one had a shrimp curry, one had a grilled salmon, and the rest of us ordered sushi/sashimi/hand rolls, etc. Let me just say that the presentation of all the dishes was really quite beautiful and everyone truly enjoyed their meals. I had hand rolls that were excellent and stole a bite or two of some of the other dishes which were tasty as well. My only complaint was the edamame which really did not come out that warm and was over cooked. I travel quite a bit and have been to many sushi restaurants across the country. I would put this one in my top five and it would be my first dinner choice when coming back to the area.

Hana Japanese Bistro is a wonderful restaurant ! They serve fresh sushi, RAMEN, donburi, udon, bento, gyoza, and lots of other wonderful food. They have a Malaysian specialty called "Curry Laksa", and it is wonderfully different from Thai or Indian curry - try it just once, I'm sure you'll get hooked! The restaurant is clean and the service is friendly, with light colored booths and regular tables. They have one tatami-seating room near the entrance. Hana Japanese Bistro is located in Louisville, CO near the Colony Square Theater and Home Depot (Lowe's is across the street).
(5)Robert T.
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. I love this place, and eat here as often as I can. The shef is awesome, and the portions are nice.
(5)Doug Y.
What a delight to discover this terrific little eatery in the little shopping center near Home Depot. On a whim, I dropped in for lunch today. The restaurant is clean and bright, and the staff is friendly and efficient. I ordered sushi and a chicken teriyaki bento box, and everything was delicious. The meal started with miso soup and a yummy cucumber salad. My sushi was fresh, and the entire chicken bento box was wonderful. I can recommend Hana Japanese Bistro for lunch, and will probably be back with my family for dinner at some point as well.
(5)Peter R.
Excellent for lunch! The bento box is very reasonably priced and a lot of food. The service was fine, and the sesame seed balls were delicious!
(4)Chris P.
I was so disappointed in the service we got on 3/1/13. The waitress started off rushing us, not even asking for a drink order because she wanted our food order literally within seconds of my wife sitting down. The fact that she then forgot to put in my wife's order would have been discovered if she ever came back to check on us after she brought my sushi. She displayed "attitude" in her visits up until she brought the sushi. When she found out she didn't place my wife's order, she never even apologized. She just asked if we still wanted the food (we didn't).

great casual sushi place.
(5)Marcus Z.
An outstanding restaurant! I've been to many Japanese restaurants, but this is the best one! I love there gobe beef roll with asparagus! I recommend this restaurant to anyone ! GREAT RESTAURANT!
(5)Ian M.
My wife and I found this place for lunch after going to a movie next door. The ambience is casually elegant. There was one big group of people but no one else. The restaurant had just opened at the time, so hopefully their customer base grows. Lunch comes with a cucumber salad and miso soup, both of which were refreshing and tasty. We both had sushi and it was excellent. The sushi tasted fresh and was satisfying without being overwhelming. They have good deals for lunch, and everything was reasonably priced. Our bill was under thirty dollars, and that was including our shumai appetizer (also good). Though I can't speak for dinner or their bento box meals, I imagine they're also very good. This place deserves to be supported, so if you have a craving for Japanese food and you're in the Louisville area, give them a try. Here's hoping they have years of success.
(5)Jay W.
super locally owned business. I have been here twice now - first time for sushi, second time for miso bass. MMMMM. Sushi was fresh and cold - I always get salmon, and a couple other things. The Miso Bass was wonderful - seared garlic with miso nuggets and a healthy portion of bass. I'll probably go back again this week, as I am out here on business travel and have been exceptionally happy with both visits thus far.
(5)Karen C.
Wow. This is what sushi is supposed to taste like. Fresh, temp of fish and rice perfect. Service impeccable. Salmon sashimi practically melted in my mouth. Son's chicken teriyaki came out sizzling with veggies still a bit crisp, not overcooked at all, sauce was amazing (he added to his rice which he never does). We'll definitely be back!
(5)Dave K.
Amazingly, I find the cooked dishes even tastier than the sushi & sashimi. Salmon Katsu and the Udon Noodle dishes are out of this world!
(4)Gailyn W.
So glad to have found Hana, it's wonderful. Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Highly recommend.
(5)Ben T.
We went for lunch and the bento box is delicious. Also had some salmon nigiri and the fish was excellent and very fresh. Great quality fish all around. We stop in regularly for Dinner and lunch every now and again.
(5)Jon M.
Excellent food and a great selection of Japanese food at very good prices. We've been here for dinner and lunch and will bring friends here.

Great food, nice people, good service. I think this place is a real gem. I love it and have been a few times now. The Bento box is a great deal! We walked in and had hot soup in front of us before we even got our water. I highly recommend!!!!!!
(5)Samuel S.
AMAZING. the atmosphere is so nice and it is very clean. The bento chicken teriyaki box is amazing. Highly recommend!
(5)Philipp S.
After seeing all these 5 star reviews we had to check that place out. Well, they did a nice job re-decorating the place. The menu looks good and the staff was very friendly. We had some sushi (nigiri and handroll) followed by a seafood ramen and shrimp laksa soup. The soups were pretty good, especially the laksa. The sushi rice was very good but the fish was just not that great. In order to give this place 5 stars, the fish quality should have been much better. The salmon and yellowtail were ok but not as tender and flavorful as for example at zanmai or amu. Still, the soups were good and i will definitely come back and check out the bento boxes for lunch.
(3)Jennifer R.
Wow this place is incredible. Their soft shell crab appetizer was out of this world. My husband absolutely hates sushi and so I nearly had to drag him there. He had a noodle dish and I had sushi and he ended up eating 5 of my sushi. The place is very clean inside and the service was incredible.
(5)Mei H.
Seafood Laksa is so tasty and close to the authentic version you could get in Malaysia. Must-have for me every time I visit this restaurant. Friendly staff too!
(4)Julian Q.
It was pretty good, but Leo's in Longmont is much better. Make the drive if you're really looking for good Japanese food. My Salmon collar and seaweed salad were pretty good, although the Salmon Skin Handroll was a bit odd. No Burdock Root to be found in these parts, I guess. My wife's chicken salad was inedible, however, which keeps me from saying I'm a fan.
(3)Joshua F.
Make sure to ask for the specials. Oysters and mussels were incredible. Sushi was excellent. Incredibly reasonably priced for the quality of food. Rivals Sushi Den in Denver for half the price. Very nice people. Hope they survive, restaurant was fairly empty when we were there...
(5)Jesse D.
All around 5-Star. Family friendly seating. Beautiful sushi bar. The staff is super and really know their stuff. Food: the ingredients are fresh and everything made from scratch. The spider roll had so many great flavors that the last bite was different then the 1st. This place is hands down the best sushi in Colorado!
(5)Elmo G.
The lunch Bento box was wonderful, can't wait to go back....
(5)Bob L.
Very good food, very good prices, very friendly and helpful staff. These people are serious about building a successful restaurant. I will do my share to help them.
(4)Tim P.
outstanding SEA BASS! great sushi and specialty rolls (lions eye)
(5)Sarah R.
Great service! Really accommodated my two kids (10 and 7). Sushi was fresh and perfectly prepared. Try the salmon skin roll.
(5)Mike C.
This place is fantastic! I'm traveling from Chicago on biz, and picked this spot thanks to Yelp and it's proxy to my hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially the chef Eric from Malaysia. We got to talking as I was alone when I came in, and he was nice enough to give me free green tea ice cream :). Had the regular sushi dinner with the Chef's sushi choices and it was delicious. Highly recommended!
(5)Haruka Y.
Bento boxes are my weakness, and they're sometimes hard to find. I was so happy to see that Hana was open for Sunday lunch, and that they had bento boxes on the menu. Very very delicious - the salmon teriyaki was the perfect blend of sweet and salty - usually it's overly salty with a heavy soy sauce aftertaste, but Hana's is perfect. Their sushi rice is good, and the fish is very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I really hope they make it and are successful.
(5)Brent S.
Great atmosphere. Decent Sushi, good presentation, but service was average at best.
(3)Jen S.
Hana sushi has another location in Longmont and I went there a lot 4 years ago. My fiancé and I went last night and as I walked in I recognized the sushi chef from the Longmont location. If theres anything I have to say about this place is, the sushi is absolutely delicious. This sushi place always has quality food!
(5)Warren D.
We have driven by a couple times and finally tried it last night. Coming from CA and being spoiled by great sushi, we are so happy to find this place! We had a salad, dumplings and 3 rolls - all were excellent. The service was great, our waitress was funny and the entire staff pitches in to help. The restaurant was clean, well lit, and comfortable. The prices are reasonable too. They really listen to their customers and even have a couple rolls named after a few regulars. We will definitely be back (a lot) and hopefully have a roll named after us soon!
(5)Sarah N.
This place is amazing! Best sushi outside of boulder, very high quality and fresh. They deliver, usually super fast. Atmosphere is very nice. I also love their other traditional Japanese fare. The service is always very quick and attentive. It's also a good place to take kids, never feel out of place with our toddler. I have been back here three times in the last two weeks since my first visit, I love it that much. Definitely try it out and you won't be disappointed.
(5)Joe O.
I love all the non-sushi offerings at Hana, beyond the typical chicken teriyaki. Their ramen is fantastic as is the soba. Even the customary miso and salad is beyond what I've had at any sushi joint. Instead of the iceberg lettuce with watery carrot-ginger dressing I'm used to they serve a salad of raw veggies in a rice-wine vinegar dressing. Very refreshing.
(5)Patrick T.
Great first experience. The menu is expansive, almost as big as Domo's. My wife had the shrimp Laksa, which she thought was pretty authentic (and she's from Singapore). Their sushi was fresh, the salmon rich and creamy, although not all the rice was packed tightly. I also had the soba noodles, which were refreshing and perfectly complemented with a dipping sauce, condiments and a raw quail egg! I hope they get another server, the poor lone server working the dinner shift seemed pretty stressed, but despite this she was polite.
(5)Liz T.
Hana is so good I went back twice within a week! The menu offers numerous choices besides sushi--teriyaki, donburi, udon, katsu, etc.--which are great when with someone who either doesn't eat fish or anything raw. I plan to try every section of the menu. So far nothing has disappointed. The quality of the fish is outstanding! The Sashimi salad is awesome and the oysters are the best I've had in CO! My friend was also really pleased with his noodle dish. Broiled fish (mackerel) was perfection and chicken katsu crispy goodness. The staff is very friendly and attentive without being over bearing. Looking forward to taking family during the Holidays!
(5)Mark S.
Terrific atmosphere, friendly people, great service, best teriyaki chicken I have ever eaten.
(5)Terrance Y.
I've been here four times now after being introduced by a friend. It's the best sushi I've had in Colorado. Consistently excellent quality and a good variety of Japanese cuisine. Service is friendly and prompt with a very comfortable atmosphere. Well worth the effort to find since they're tucked into an out of the way corner that doesn't get much traffic.
(5)Aaron E.
This place was absolutely delicious and we ate there the 2nd night they were open. I had tonkatsu donburri and it was probably the best I've ever had. My wife had some shrimp Udon. I'm being no means a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine but this was one of the best if not the best I've ever had. I will go back.
(5)Eric K.
Having studied in Japan for several years I am always on the lookout for real authentic Japanese cuisine. When I found Hana in a little Louisville strip mall I assumed I would be disappointed but was anything but. Great food, service, and very authentic selections. I've been back a couple of times to to share with friends some of the neat selections. Bento box for lunch is a hit and the Sushi is good too. Only downside is I haven't loved the Chef's custom rolls but everything else so far is an A+.
(5)Dale Z.
Went to Hana for the 1st time tonight and really enjoyed our meal, the service and the atmosphere were great. The Jeff roll was very good and enough for 2. I had the Una Don (eel over rice) which was wonderful. My friend had the shrimp tempura and said it was very good. I will definitely come back there were about 10 items I want to try!
