Best Chinese ever!!! Fast delivery and delicious food that is always presented well. Highly recommended

Fan's is close enough that I can walk to it. Based on that alone I appreciate them. They also have a few dishes that are simply delicious. Sesame tofu anyone? Good food, cheap enough, and totally worth it if you live in Niwot. Hours are fine, delivery is fast, they offer you hot tea if you're waiting for food...I appreciate Fan's!

They have the best vegetarian meat alternatives in Niwot! I recommend the vegetarian sesame chicken dish with broccoli. Delicious! Great, fast and friendly service. I always feel so welcome here. My go to place for a quick lunch.

I came upon this chinese treasure about 3 wks ago while traveling to this area on business. The food is outstanding. I am a vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised to have so many selections to choose from. Everything I have tried has been fantastic. The service is wonderful. The people are so friendly. It is a true pleasure to eat here. I will come here every time I am in the area.

Probably the best Chinese food I've had. Very friendly service. Lots of food for not a lot of price. Crispy pork was great. Shrimp Lo Mein was also delicious. Very underrated.

I'm a Fan's fan (and maker of obvious puns). This was the first Chinese restaurant I ate at where the orange sauce tastes like biting into an orange. Where other restaurants attune your palette to the rice vinegar and sugar in their orange sauces, Fan's is actually made with oranges, and they serve their orange beef, chicken, or shrimp with tiny, zesty slices of caramelized orange peel to complete the effect. This is characteristic of all of their dishes -- the extra time devoted to quality where other restaurants tend to cut corners. The dining room is small and can be noisy at times, but their delivery is prompt and when ordering take-out, they offer you complimentary hot green tea while you wait.

I love restaurants like this. Awesome service, great food (that actually tastes like fresh food), no frills setting, and great value. I left thinking, "I can't wait to come back and who can I tell about this place." This place is a gem! I'm a "fan"! :)

Very tasty, but a little on the greasy side. It's a great location and fast!

The food is only average. The only reason we ever eat there is because it is close to home. Tonight we were overcharged for delivery. I inquired as to the reason and was informed that they keep a LIST of people who have ordered previously and did not tip the driver ENOUGH. Excuse me? We will never order from them again.

Met a friend at Fan's (how it's spelled on the sign outside the restaurant) for lunch recently. First time I've tried it. Marvelously friendly and efficient service. Beautiful MSG-free tasty food. I ordered a fish entree and my friend ordered something vegetarian with tofu. Both entrees were excellent. Soup was lovely. Nice bright crispy vegetables with both entrees. Good value for the money. Liked the simple rice with just a touch of egg. Will return. Lunch includes tea, soup, egg roll, and crab cheese wonton. All lunches were under 8 dollars.

Wow. Fooled by high reviews. Ordered take out, the place smelled wonderful when I walked in to pick up. Fooled again. Got home with two very bland dishes. These were supposed to be spicy. The chicken curry was VERY rubbery and flavorless. The so called spicy pork was bland, half the pork was rubbery the other half was tender. On a high note the pork egg rolls were good. Won't go back.

What an awesome unassuming place! Great for casually sitting with your family and enjoying tea while waiting for your order. Great for delivery and take out too! The staff is nothing but friendly. The people running the establishment are kind and go out of their way to get what you want from your food. If you want to sit in and eat, don't expect frilly decorations or goodies. Do expect a clean pleace with almost a home-y feel to it. The effort is spent on preparation, flavor and service. If ordering for delivery, expect portions as generous as when dining in. Hands down the best place around for this type of food!

I was looking for a place to eat last night and avoid the crowds of Valentine's day. Heard about this place on yelp and decided to check it out with the family. Everything positive I heard about this place on yelp was true. The owners were truly very friendly and took good care of us. The food was definitely the best Chinese I have had in the greater Denver area. The wonton soup was definitely a favorite with my kids. The veggies they had used, were definitely fresh and the food in general was perfect in terms of saltiness and spiciness. I am going to talk about this place with my friends and definitely encourage anybody in the Boulder county and surrounding places to try this place out. I am a fan of Fan's!!!

Perhaps the worst pork fried rice I have ever had. Rice soaked in soy, tiny specks of pork and that was it. Vegetable lo mein was noodles with some very wilted soggy broccoli. I could never recommend this place.

Very good Chinese food. My wife and I stopped here the other day, and we were totally amazed. We started with the Wanton Soup and it was great. Then I had the Sesame Beef and she had the Beef with Broccoli. Both meals were awesome. The service was extremely friendly and the food was amazing. I will definitely be back.

Lunch special 11 - 3pm. 5-7$ for your choice of soup, a crab Rangoon, spring roll, and delicious noodle, meat, or rice dish. I don't even need to say anything more.

Consider the audience. Five stars wouldn't be a stretch. FOOD This is Chinese food for Americans, half salt-of-the-earth, half athletes. It's a crazy place, the Front Range. So they have Americanized Chinese food. They don't use MSG or trans-fat. You can get tons of fresh, crisp, bright veggies. You can get meat and starch, hold the veggies. They do gluten-free. What's your taste? Ok, I'd like some good tea. They have one kind of hot tea, and it's passable. There are a couple other things you could complain about if you wanted to be a punk, but you don't like to be a punk, do you. Neither do it. I'd argue that a small town like Niwot could hardly support a 5-star establishment. They custom-make plates to specifications. Hate bamboo shoots? Order whatever dish without them. Want extra garlic? Suit yourself; I wasn't planning to make out with you anyway. We have successfully ordered dishes with no sugar, even. They made a special batch of unsweetened sauce. BRILLIANT. Where else can you get that kind of attention? A few places, actually, but it's still rare. SERVICE It is ridiculous how nice these people are. Seriously. Not counting the high school kids they hire, which is easy to ignore, the family that runs this place is unbelievably sweet. Anything you want, as long as you can weave through the language barriers, you get. Actually, that's a worthwhile point: speak in plain, simple language. Now is not the time to work on your complex prose. Instead of "I'd like the chicken with mixed veggies, but sugar would be a problem, so if you can make it without that, I'd greatly appreciate it," stick with "Chicken with mixed veggies, no sugar. Please." Seriously. Make it easy for everyone. :) OTHER What else do you want? Unless you're in a wheelchair, there's nothing more to desire here. If you ARE in a wheelchair, you'd probably want an easier way to get in. I'm not, so I can't speak to how difficult it would be to get in, honestly, but it seems less than ideal. Sorry. FINAL VERDICT I completely love this place. Completely. Go there. Tell the owners that you love them. Or tell them that I do, because that's definitely true.

I think this place has changed. I used to eat here a lot and LOVED it. But, now the quality is low. The chicken is rubbery and cheap. It used to be tasty quality white meat. They used to be so good. But, I don't think I'll be going back.

  • Jason R.

The vegetarian "chicken" is what keeps me coming back frequently. Before discovering it on their menu, I had ordered some vegetable entrees and the sesame tofu which were nothing special. Now I go there when I crave the Kung Pao Vegetarian Chicken in particular, which my girlfriend greatly enjoys sharing with me- and she's an omnivore. The ambience is lackluster so I take-out more often than dine-in, but I do enjoy the super friendly staff and charming "Chinglish" they speak.

  • Corey H.

Tried the General Chao's. The vegetables were fresh and excellent; I wish there were more of them. The chicken was good. I'll second Mozza R's comment that this is not spicy, even though it was marked on the menu as such. Wouldn't call it bland, but it was about average for Chinese food I've had before. The staff is a bit difficult to understand, but very kind. They kept trying to push soup on me -- I was a bit put off by that. As I was leaving I caught part of the chalkboard menu, soup is complimentary for those dining in. The matriarch of Fan's thanked everyone as they left.

Did I go to a different restaurant than all the other people writing reviews for this place? The food was far from good. I actually ate less than half my meal. The fried rice was terrible, just white rice with soy sauce and a little egg. The chicken was disgusting, lots of fat and grizzle. The only thing that was edible was the onions which could have been cooked more.Definitely can't recommend and don't plan on returning.

  • Gluten-Free From A to Z.

FYI: Z is gluten-free (which means she can't eat wheat, rye, or barley) so our reviews are all from the gluten-free perspective. We care about how many gluten-free options the restaurant has and how helpful the staff is in dealing with our concerns. Gluten-Free Options: According to the owner, 90% of the regular menu can be prepared gluten-free! Total From A to Z: 5 Stars A's Review: * * * * * This restaurant is in the back of an unassuming shopping center and you can't even see it from the street. It is that much more of a treasure because of it. While they don't have a specifically GF menu or GF section, I asked what could be GF and the woman behind the counter (who I assume is the owner) excitedly told me to pick something because they can do 90% of the menu items gluten free. That is awesome. And the portions are huge! And...as a bonus, dining in gets you a free helping of egg drop soup, which was great and also gluten free. Most excellent. Z's Review: * * * * * This place is not in the greatest location - it can be a little bit hard to find - but it is totally worth it because it is like gluten-free Chinese food heaven! The woman we spoke to told us that 90% of the regular menu can be prepared gluten-free at no extra charge, which means you can pick almost anything you want! They have all kinds of choices: vegetarian, pork, chicken, duck, beef, shrimp, scallops, fish, and even rice noodles! After so much time spent eating out gluten-free with only a small selection of choices, I have to admit that it was almost overwhelming! When you dine-in they also serve you complimentary soup. The day we went it was a delicious gluten-free egg drop soup, but they were still cooking a batch of the soup while we were eating our dinner. The woman who helped us was sweet enough to package some soup to go for us because she really wanted us to try it. She was super excited to tell us about all the gluten-free options. Let me tell you, I'm sold! Fan's is my new favorite place for Chinese food!

Fan's is a great choice mostly for it's convenience. Since I'm often in Boulder but live in Niwot, I keep a menu in the car. how convenient to have dinner ready when I get back to town. I always do carry-out as the atmosphere is severely lacking, but adequate for a quick lunch or pick up. We eat vegetarian and fish and there are plenty of options. I think Fan's does the best sesame tofu around, though I usually ask for extra broccoli. The Mu Shu vegetables are also good. We've had the curry vegetables a few times and these are not their specialty. I do like the hot and sour soup as it's vegetarian and has a nice kick. A decent value and certainly convenient!

The food is quite good and the staff super friendly! I think they now have brown rice. The lunch deals are great and if you don't see what you want I think they would be happy to make it up for you! Everything MSG free and not overly salty.

We live nearby and come here all the time. The food is good, and the owners and staff super-friendly. Occasionally when we're feeling lazy, we'll get delivery . . . it's always here within 30 minutes and hot. Like Terry C said, it's somewhat Americanized Chinese food, but tasty and no MSG.

Very good food, friendly service, at a great price. This is a small, family-run Chinese restaurant in the Cottonwood Square plaza in the small town of Niwot, just northeast of Boulder. My wife & I are new to Boulder and are trying to find our "go-to" restaurants in the area. We never did find a Chinese restaurant we liked in our previous home of Sarasota, FL. Thanks to our fellow Yelpers, I'm glad to say that we can cross Chinese off our list; Fan's is a winner. We arrived around 6:00 pm on a monday (Fan's is open 7 days!) and there was only one other couple seated in the small, unassuming dining room. It quickly became evident that most of Fan's business is take-out and/or delivery, as the kitchen stayed pretty busy. Service was warm, friendly, and personable; we got all of our food quickly. My wife enjoyed her Wonton Soup, and I was pleasantly surprised by the Hot & Sour, (as I had to stop ordering it in Florida, it was so bad there.) We followed the soup with the Fried Dumplings, which were quite tasty as well; and done just right (am I the only one who has gotten pot stickers that were burned on the outside & not cooked all the way through?) For the main course, we ordered the Szechuan Chicken and the General Chou's Tofu. Both were wonderful! We walked out of the restaurant smiling. I had to stop myself from giving Fan's an even higher rating, but the dining area does detract a bit. In my opinion, though, the food & service more than make up for it. We will be back again...and again.

Definitely had to update my review as a vegetarian, because Fans is still as good as it gets, even for those of us who don't eat meat! My husband and I both got dishes we liked (the Cashew 4 Treasure was my favorite, the Buddha's delight was good too, though), and we were able to eat the Hot & Sour soup because they said it's vegetarian as well! :) I so wish this place was in San Diego, because it's hard for me to find Chinese places that I trust out here (even though I'm sure they exist). Definitely one of my favorite places from which to procure food in/around Boulder!

This place has your typical Americanized Chinese food. Hardly authentic. Flavor is bland. Even when you ask for extremely hot/spicy food its not. I mean they can't even get chow fun right. The noodles are just mushy and no flavor. I'm done with this place. I've given it enough tries.

At work we go to this restaurant a lot due to its' location. The food is hit or miss. What Fans does well: 1. Soups 2. Twice cooked pork. i originally thought this was a deep fried dish, but it is pork with veggies. 3. Peanut Butter chicken. Chicken battered and deep fried. Peanut butter sauce. Just the chicken and fried rice. 4. Combo fried rice (chicken, shrimp, pork) 5. The staff is very friendly What Fans could improve on: 1. Egg rolls are small and greasy 2. Charging for sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls is not cool

Great Chinese take-out. The chicken is high-quality, and never includes nasty surprises like fat, tendon or gristle. If you eat-in, expect super-casual and very friendly.

  • They Call Me L.

ooooh, yeahhhh! these guys can hang with other chinese food establishments from bigger, coastal cities. as one who's sampled chinese food worldwide, it's definitely not a stretch to say this place is comparable to some of the better ones i've tried in nyc, philly, and all over california. plus, you can't beat the proprietors' enthusiasm and attentiveness. me likey, i say.

First things first...no MSG used here! Great for Friday night takeout or delivery, with plenty of leftovers for lunch over the weekend. Kung Pao duck is wonderful, as is Orange Chicken, hotnsour soup. Veggies are crisp, food is tasty and plentiful. * on the menu means spicy, but not so hot that it's a problem. They have a dining area, but I've never eaten there. Strictly takeout for this fan of Fans.

I was referred by a coworker that this place has no MSG. Typically I shy away from Chinese food in the US as most of the time they end up being pretty darn American Chinese. However, I ended up falling in love with the American Chinese food here at Fan's. To me I consider American Chinese a different style of cooking and there's nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of selections from this restaurant, and we often order delivery or just dine in. Hot and sour soup here is quite good, I have not had hot and sour soup this tasty. The owners are extremely friendly and very kind. Even though they do not speak English well, they try very hard to please everyone with their smiles, and constantly checking to refill your tea or water. If you are looking for authentic chinese food, I would not say Fan's is even remotely trying to achieve it. But if you are looking for healthy American Chinese food, or as I call it "upscale" Panda Express, Fan's is definitely the place to go. Now, time for lunch. At Fan's.

Great vegan and vegetarian options. We had sesame tofu, fake chicken with asparagus, and veg egg rolls. Delivery was reasonably quick. We're ordering again tonight!

Boulder County is not a Chinese cuisine destination. There are several establishments that simply do not serve quality Chinese food. Indian, Nepalese and Mexican yes; but not superior Chinese. Having moved from the Bay Area and growing up with a large variety of excellent Asian food, I found it a bit disappointing that after trying most the Chinese restaurants in north Boulder that there simply was nothing to match my experience and expectations. So I ventured a bit farther to Niwot and discovered Fans. I was a bit apprehensive at first as it is located in the back of a small strip mall. However once inside I noticed that the restaurant was very clean and one can see right in to the kitchen which is also well kept and sanitary. The service was fast and friendly. The food is hearty and the portions generous. It isn't dim sum or foo foo like some big city places. I have ordered several dishes over the years and have yet to sample one that was not good. Most are excellent. Bonus - they deliver to much of north Boulder.

Fan's Chinese takeout has a special place in my memory. I lived in Longmont for a short time, directly across 119 from the restaurant. Having just moved from central NJ where good Asian food can be found in abundance, both made by my parents and also decent restaurants, I was looking for something that was as close to comfort food as I was going to get in the middle of CO. I think I probably Googled for it, and was surprised to find a Chinese place in the tiny town of Niwot, and VERY nervous about ordering from there. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered General Tso's chicken (I think they call it General Chao's here) and crab cheese wontons-- my usual takeout choices. My friend once ordered the Sesame Tofu as she was in the mood for veggies, and while the tofu was good, it only came with a few broccoli florets. So if that's what you're looking for as well, be sure to choose something that specifies that it's a vegetable dish, not just that it comes with broccoli. The food certainly wasn't incredible (it is Chinese takeout, after all), but was definitely satisfying and I went back a few times in the month that I lived in Longmont. In fact, I missed it when I moved up to the top of Flagstaff, and I REALLY missed it when I had a truly awful experience at Golden Lotus in Boulder. The service is friendly, and prompt for takeout, don't know about delivery. There's generally enough food for lunch the next day if you order dinner.

I just moved back here after living in san francisco (where there's TONS of Chinese food) and I have to say that I was majorly impressed by this place! Not only because they don't use MSG or trans fat, but they even have "fake meat" dishes for vegetarians which I think is awesome! I had the hot and sour soup which was really really good as well as the sesame chicken which may have been the best sesame chicken I have ever had! The staff was super nice as well... I highly recommend this place!!

I like this place because the food is not overly saucy like most Chinese restaurants. I have tried the chicken in garlic sauce and kung pao. Both were very good for this small restaurant. Large lunch portions at a very reasonable price. The hot and sour soup has some large pepper flakes, but is tasty. Egg rolls are average. The menu has a bit on it and friends who meet for lunch here have tried some of the fish items and loved it. Blows away a Panda Express and most other fast take out Chinese places.

So so so good! Quick and made to order. I love the general chaos tofu and the sweet and sour chicken is always good. Delivery can be slow, but always worth it.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
