Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best smothered breakfast burrito in town. For dinner try the flautas with green sauce.

I've been eating at this place for the last 20 years or so and I'll have to say in the last 5 years it's been slowly heading down hill. Let's get something strait first. The service has never been top notch and the food has never made it out of the kitchen and on to my table in under 30 mins and the waitress' always seem like they have too many tables to work at once. Since the service has been sucking so bad in the last years, I limit my visits to about every 6-9 months but after my last visit it's probably going to be more like a year. The only dish I eat here is the crispy Chili Rellenos. I can't find any other place in this state that prepares them the way Deli Cioso does and I can't bring myself to eat any other dish when I'm here. I love them so damn much and it saddens me that this eatery seems to have given up on it's customer base. I ate here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, hoping that things have improved, but I came away even more disappointed. My usual dish took about 45 mins to get and by the time it got to the table it was luke warm and the Rellanos had soaked up the green chili and turned them to mush. My friends dishes were served in the same manner and 3 out of 4 of the dishes had the wrong sides on them and the wrong green chili sauce. The waitress could not be found after the food was served and when she finally did come back, she wreaked of cigarette smoke. Our glasses remained empty for most of the meal and when the bill finally showed up, she tacked on 8% gratuity without telling anyone. It wasn't until a couple of hours later when a friend checked the ticket and found out what the waitress had done. So she got a great tip for some of the lousiest service I've ever experienced there. Sorry to say, but I would stay away from this place.

It's just not what it used to be. And they are still rude. I'm over them.
(2)Edward S.
This place could be so much better if they gave a crap. They charge for a second helping of chips and salsa which is a joke because the cup of salsa would be small for one person, let alone four people. The counter and wait staff suck, there's no other way to say it. The food is ok but you can do much better at just about any other mexican place in Longmont.
(1)Meo W.
Ew. Shitty shitty service. And it wasn't even that busy. I heard the bell ding and saw my order sitting there for 10 min while the waitress was "cleaning" and walked by it twice. They messed up the order twice and when it was correct it sucked anyhow. I can usually tell how a meal is going to be within the first 60 seconds entering a restaurant, and when we walked in and stood there for a few minutes without even being acknowledged ( they saw us and walked past us a few times) I knew we should have left. I even told my friend we should go it wasn't going to be good.... But she is pregnant and really wanted Mexican here. She said " you were right" at the end of the meal ha! Gross.
(1)Brittany B.
Delicious food and great prices. Buuuut id prefer Santiagos over it. But still, i definitely recommend trying deli cioso
(4)Debra F.
You can't beat Deli Cioso for authentic Mexican food at a great price point. This place always pleases -

In times past this was the definitive Family Mexican restaurant in Longmont. It is actually pretty sad to see it today. The food is marginal at best and the service is friendly but ever so slow. We were greeted by the person behind the bar pointing at a table and asking us to sit down. The entire dining area heard her and looked at us. The salsa was worse than bad canned salsa. Chips had no flavor. Guacamole had no taste. Hot chile was very mild. Steak was tough.
(1)Mike E.
This is a restaurant that has just stopped trying. The service staff are polite enough, but other than that I couldn't find a plus. The chips and salsa (only the first serving is free) were absolutely flavorless. I asked if there was queso, and the waitress replied that they only had canned nacho cheese, "like they have in theaters." She successfully unsold me. I ordered a combo plate with a taco, chile relleno and enchilada. It was completely tasteless and rubbery, like a leftover meal from three days ago hastily reheated in the microwave. The entire plate was smothered in this bland orange maybe-sauce-maybe-cheese that looked gross. I will usually give a place at least two swings before totally giving up on it... unless the first impression is this bad.
(1)Diane H.
The parking lot used to be full, waiting for a table was not uncommon, friendly wait staff was the norm, and great food was always a guarantee. What happened? I heard the place is for sale? Then just close the doors and quit ripping people off. I walked over there one night by myself to have a quiet dinner. When I went in I was made to feel like I was a total inconvenience to the waitress. She wanted to seat me at the bar. I was by myself and didn't feel comfortable sitting there. She begrudgingly sat me in a booth. I ordered my dinner and it was awful! The chicken was very dry and the green chili tasted like the bottom of the pot. What a shame. That place used to be the best place in town for Mexican food. I think I would just lock the doors and leave the community with the memories of many good dining experiences.
(1)Maverick P.
I been going here for 30 years! Family owned and operated. It is WAS one of the BEST places in Longmont for Mexican food. They are apparently selling the building and going out of business. It is sad to see this once thriving business going away the way it is. Service is poor and very slow they now have a do not care attitude.
(2)David G.
I spent this past Sunday night in this restaurant. A friend of mine was with me and he supposedly knew the owners. Long story short he was playing foosball with several kids and I videotaped some of it with my phone. A few minutes later this smallish Hispanic guy with a mustache approached me and told me I should not have filmed his kids and to get rid of it. Within 5 seconds another 30 ish Hispanic male told me to leave and to leave right now. (hey I was born here he is from another country)Unless you are into fighting those with less brain cells I suggest you dont go here. In my 58 years I have never been approached anywhere and confronted and told to leave lest I end up in the hospital. I suggest unless you have a death wish keep this place off your list of restaurants.
(1)Nic C.
Our family has been going here twice a week for years. We went here for our Sunday night dinner and were thoroughly disappointed with our service. Aside from the sub-par food and extremely slow service, we were appalled at the service from the bartender. As we were sitting at our booth, the bartender(Sunny) scolded a woman in our group for not having her flip-flops on her feet. (She had pulled her feet out and was resting them atop her sandals) He was so rude in fact, that we complained about the confrontation to our server. Shortly after he return in a raging fit and told us to "get the (expletive) out. Needless to say we won't return and don't recommend this establishment to anyone.
(1)Diana B.
SO disappointing!!! Service was terrible and when we went to pay, I had to ask to be rung up, since it took so long to get the check. The guy, I think was the manager, was rude to my dad, and then followed, YES, FOLLOWED us out to the parking lot to tell me that "he does his best, and the I don't have to be so rude"....very weird. We won't be eating here again.
(1)Lana S.
The food was delicious!!! And the icing on the cake was the prices were awesome!!! Definitely recommend this place! 5 stars all the way!!
(5)Marlowe H.
I've always liked this place. I used to live nearby, so I wasn't needing a car to get there. Which means I could enjoy a combo and some good margaritas. Other people here complain about the service. Never had a problem. Some people complian about the food. I find it well prepared and well priced. Now I live in Europe, when I visit Colorado I always make a stop here.
(5)Cait C.
We always get the same waitress who is always really nice. But the food is never consistent. And the owners are rude. I saw this elderly man complain about how his wife got sick from eating there the night before and instead of showing concern he told the man that it wasn't his problem. So rude. In all the 20 years my family has been going there (well not anymore now that Santiago's is on town) the place has not changed. It seems like the owners could care less about the food, the ambiance, or their customers. Sorry to say. But this will be my last time coming back.
(2)Scott D.
A huge disappointment! We used to eat here 5-6 years ago and it was definitely a worn out place then, but the food was good. We flew in on vacation and headed here for lunch this week. It was nasty! It smells bad, it's definitely not clean, they clearly haven't done any maintenance or cleaning in the past 6 years and the food sucked. The chili relleno smelled like something old and stale and was not edilble. My taco was only marginally better so we left half the food. The waitress was hard to get any attention from and she saw that we weren't eating and obviously couldn't care less. My advice - go to Santiago's.
(1)Daniel W.
We used to go here years ago for the great hot sauces and big margaritas. We went for nostalgia, but won't be back again. The breakfast burrito was very dry, mostly potatoes. Service was slow and not inviting.
(1)Michael R.
This place used to be good but I'll never go back there. We waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged after being sat down, 25 mins for a drink (worst margarita I've ever seen in my entire life!) and another 25 mins to get our food which was just "ok". The "Gold" margarita looked just like the house margarita. The second one was even worse, it tasted like stale lemonade. We took it back (waitress was nowhere to be found) and the bartender said "that's how it is". We told him to keep it. The only person that was remotely friendly was the lady that sat us down, pretty much everyone else was rude or at least indifferent except a lady that was cleaning tables and didn't speak English. She kept bringing us chips and salsa so we wouldn't starve waiting for our food. If I could I'd give this place half a star.
(1)Persephone P.
The service can be lacking, if not downright rude at times, either for dine-in or when picking up take-out. But goddamned if I don't love me some of those smothered burritos. You win this time, Deli Cioso. You win this time.
(4)Amy J.
Been going here for years, but it just keeps going down hill. The quality of the food is horrible!! When Taco Bell is better that doesn't say much for Deli Cioso. Sure wish it was like it used to be.
(1)BJ A.
Deli Cioso, thy name is mediocre. It seems as if this establishment wants to do the least possible work in preparing the food.
(2)Miranda Keala Priestley N.
This 5 star rating is strictly limited to the breakfast burrito. I've eaten lunch and dinner here, which have ranged from great to fucking terrible, but there is no touching the burritos that are available in the morning. I agree with the other reviewers- the service for lunch and dinner here SUCKS. It is the worst service I have ever received anywhere, from anyone. But that breakfast burrito, well, it keeps me coming back for 8am takeout. And that is saying quite a bit about how good it is. I can't think of another place in the world that I have ever visited again after having received bad service. But I am an addict. And that's all there is to it. I like mine hot, with the chili verde on the inside. I'm sure the not hot are tasty, but why bother? And as a side note, the girls that work the counter in the morning are really nice and could teach the dinner servers a thing or six.
(5)Stephen A.
Great Food.....Great Value......which is all I care about. I have been going here for a long time and continue to come back over and over.
(5)kari b.
I met family here the other day for lunch. Mine was too greasy, not quite hot enough, and by the time I had to pay extra to have lettuce tomato onion etc, it was not even that cheap. There is something to be said for Mexican restaurants who believe in smothering everything in lots of rubbery cheese, sometimes it just hits the spot, this place, unfortunately did not even hit that spot.
(2)Rob W.
I thought it was great. I went to the one on main st. And opted for the full service to get the complimentary chips and salsa. Got to have chips and salsa. I had #7 combo and it was delicious. Best I have had in Longmont.

So, we've been going to this restaurant for over 25 years and it is become inconsistent with the quality of food and service at best. BUT tonight took it to a new level. We took out of town friends here and had a less than favorable meal and TERRIBLE customer service. Then the bill came. Our friends were billed too much. After talking to the waitress, she adjusted their bill and said we owed more, which my husband argued over, since our bill had already been paid, and it sermed right. The waitress grabbed the bill and said she would take care of it. We left and before we knew it the manager came out to the parking lot and was taking down our license number with the nasty waitress following behind him. We pulled up to the manager and asked what the deal was and he said we had skipped out on the bill., when he had been the one to take the payment from my husband to begin with. Apparently, the waitress failed to tell us that the burrito specials that we both ordered would cost more since we ordered bean and potato instead of beef and potato (really?!?!). Anyway after a major discussion with the manager, they insisted we owed $3.00 more...let me see $3.00 dispute = customers for 25 years who are willing to take mediocre with the good...... Seals the deal for us. Classy!!

I usually don't review after one visit. But this was kinda funny. The other reviewers are- right the almighty dollar rules here. They are not taking any steps to improve upon this mexperience. Or the lack of it anyway. So we go check it out, walk in and immediately notice that it's a cash only joint and a big sign that says "if you ordered it you bought it." Which I think they were referring to the green chili, but I'll get to that. There are two ways you can dine: have someone served you or go up to the window and order. We were kinda hungry so we tried the walk up order thing. The place was not busy. There was one guy that took our order and turned to go make food. He looked at us like we were annoying him . We sat down and about 25 minutes later he called my name. I grabbed the tray from the counter and looking at it my stomach made a weird sound. It felt like it said "really?" Don't want to go into too many details but everything that shoulda been crisp was limp. Everything that shoulda been aromatic smelled overprocessed- you can smell canned a mile away. Usually I rate a mex joint by the rellenos and tacos so I ordered accordingly. Taco on one plate, relleno on another. Beans and rice on yet another. Strange? Maybe not, apparently this is how you get it from the window. The taco was deplorable- Taco Hell does one 10 x better- I think I actually smelled dog food. Couldn't eat it. The rice and beans couldn't do that either. So on to the funny part. The relleno was smothered in this greeny grey glop that was trying to pass as green chili. I attempted to go in. I should have listened to my nasal apprasa of the plate. It was odd and room temp! I picked up the plate and took it back to the window. And the guy said "Whut?" I said "um- this is cold." he responded (with a chuckle!) "oh- I'll throw that in the micorwave for ya." Oh- I'll throw that in the microwave for ya? Are you kidding me? 1 minute passes and he calls my name. I get this plate that has a small pond of glutinous mass with darkened edges. This was comical!I forked it to see what was going on and it was unmelted cheese inside a leathery tube! I was done! Done with this place. Will not give them another chance. This was pretty much one of the worst gastro-adventures I've had in recent times. I will continue on a quest to find a decent taco or relleno in No Co. Nothing at Deli Cioso. Trust me- steer clear of this place!

I've eaten the Burrito Special B here for lunch on numerous occasions and really enjoy it. Every year before school starts I take my family out for an annual outing. We had been frequenting Three Margeritas and Cici's pizzeria. But I decided it would be nice to change things up. Boy was I wrong. We enter the restaurant and there is a large Christian motor cycle club in the far room. We are pointed to a table and told to sit down in the same room as the motorcycle club. After fifteen minutes we still have no menus, no silver ware, nothing except for a dirty table cloth. Still hoping to get out a reasonable time we help ourselves to some menus. A waitress is now helping the very large party in the room with us. After all there orders are taken, the waitress stops by and takes are drink orders. These arrive along with chips and salsa in about 10 minutes and she takes our order but she's out of straws. 45 minutes later she returns, the motor cycle club has eaten and left. We finally get our straws and after about 10 minutes we get our meal. I go to complain to the manager, but he doesn't want to here from me. I tell him that half my family doesn't want to come back and he's heard enough. He tells me he doesn't want me to come back either. So I want. I've been eating there for over 10 years. My advice if the lot is full. SKIP IT. They don't like dealing with customer.

This is the tastiest Mexican food I've ever had in Longmont. I remember going there as a kid and now I'm a fan as an adult. Their food is delicious and very affordable. The ingredients are simple and initially I was a bit taken aback by them charging for normal toppings added to a burrito but all in all it was still less expensive than anywhere else. The first time I ate there recently was when my husband and I got take-out. I don't remember what he ordered aside from their rice side which was fantastic. I had the taco azteca: a fried flour tortilla topped with choice of meat and such. I chose adobada (like molé pork), cheese, lettuce, and tomato. It was amazing. Their sopapillas are perfect: tiny, airy triangles of dough perfect with honey or cinnamon and sugar. If I had based my entire review off that food experience, I would have given the place five stars. We ate there last night for dinner and that experience has me knocking off a star. Their food was still stellar. I had a burrito, again with adobada, and my husband ordered a beef taco combo plate. He enjoyed the taco shells so much he had me try a bit and it was indeed wonderful - very crunchy and not too oily. The burrito was huge, but not to the size that would have made me leave feeling overstuffed. We also ordered two Cuervo Gold margaritas and they were nice and strong. My gripes principally have to do with our on site experience: The place wasn't that busy for a Friday night but our waitress left us for a good 15 minutes during which time we finished our plates and just sat around. When we flagged her down we asked for sopapillas for dessert, and instead she just brought the check. Their lighting is extremely bizarre. Half of the fixtures in the restaurant have regular incandescent bulbs but the rest have compact fluorescent which I am NOT a fan of. I'm guessing maybe they were replacing fixtures with CLs as the regular bulbs ran out? If they did that is a trademark of incredible cheapness. Regardless, it made for an unpleasant mix of lighting. Lastly, the chips. I think I have seen other reviews say this: They don't make their own chips, and the chips they serve are simply not good. I don't feel comfortable getting a basket of chips that are dyed to the point where the blue chips, which are made from yellow corn like the rest instead of just being naturally blue corn chips, look like they have been dipped in house paint. The salsa was excellent but next time we'll either get it to go or bring our own chips into the restaurant with us. Summary: Go for the food and turn a blind eye to the rest, or get take-out. I'm going with option 2.

BEST. MEXICAN. FOOD. EVER. Seriously, where can you get a burrito that's close to a foot long, with any kind of traditional mexican meat, any other additional toppings, with the best god damn green chili (mild, medium, or hot) in the world for under eight bucks? I'll wait.... My personal favorite combo is the adobada/potato/grilled onions/guacamole burrito with the medium green chili. In addition, the enchilada sauce is to die for. Spicy, but not overwhelming, and just right when on top of cheese and onion, or any other kind of enchilada one could wish for. For a special treat, try having both enchilada sauce and green chili on your entree. This place can't be beat and is my favorite mexican food hands down!

It's better than starving, but not exactly good. Also a pain that they don't take credit cards. We ordered jalapeño poppers, they were obviously frozen pre-made. Chips were not house-made, salsa was OK, surly waitress forgot to bring Guacamole. My Azteca-style chicharrones burrito was pretty good, the other dishes were "brown and spicy".

yuck. i am a hardcore mexican food fanatic. i have eaten tacos al pastor in a garage in rosarito, enchiladas from a truck in a back alley of east LA, and fresh hot tortillas made by a tiny old lady over a propane flame in akumal. this. place. sucks. first, they obviously don't make their own tortilla chips. petty, you say? they are a damn MEXICAN RESTAURANT. if you don't make your own chips, you're no better than taco cabana. they left a horrible aftertaste that took half a (flat) dr. pepper to erase from my tastebuds. their mild green chili is literally green water. no flavor WHATSOEVER. i liked the medium and hot versions slightly, but still - no comparison to most decent mexican restaurants. also, their economic mindset seems to be that of a money-hoarding old spinster. no credit cards? please. you're a large, surprisingly busy restaurant. get out of the stone age and pay the 2% fee. also, categorizing the 15-cent differences between the different types of jalapeños on the side is ridiculous. SPEND MORE TIME ON THE FOOD, LESS ON THE NICKEL-AND-DIMING OF THE CLIENTELE. our waitress was not only surly, but couldn't count - she shorted us a buck on our change... intentional? in summary, if you like bland, deep-fried bastardized tex-mex, this is your place! i'll stick to efrain's - i've been going for 12 years. i feel like an adulterous spouse. i'm sorry, efrain's, i won't stray again! i promise!

Been going there for 10 years. I watched it turn from a total dive to a fairly non-scary place. Best Mexican food I've ever tasted. I always order Friday's Special (A or B, I don't remember)--even if it's not a Friday! It's a beef and potatoes burrito, smothered in their most wonderful chili served with rice and beans. It's huge! It's probably about 3,000 calories, and I can't control myself when I eat it. Maybe it's a good thing I don't work in Longmont anymore...

From the way they spell their name this sounds like a deli, but it's not, it joins three other Deli Ciosos in Longmont as a predictable, middle-of-the-road Mexican restaurant ("delicioso" is obviously "delicous" in Spanish) . Ticky-tacky decor but nice comfortable booths throughout. Service is efficient if not particularly friendly (I've been here several times; this time i was by myself). I ordered a margarita "coin" style (i.e. just lime juice, no sweet mix) and made with anejo tequila (I'm not sure which). It tasted like anejo and came to $7.50 not the $10-12 that such a marg costs in upscale Boulder restaurants. I'm a lover of chile rellenos, soft (or in the restaurant's case, I think they called soft "natural), not crispy please. They arrived pretty quickly and although i asked for the green chile sauce medium it was not at all picante and the chiles were stuffed with too much cheese, often a problem i find with chile rellenos ($5.80). Sides ($1.15 each) of refried beans and a nice surprise of cooked spinach were good, as were homemade corn tortillas ($.75 each) to roll up my beans in. The base price of the rellenos was very reasonable but they charge for everything on the side, so watch it. All in all, decent but not excelente.

The Best Chicano style food I've ever tasted!!!!! Everything tastes like I grew up on at home, a lot of people can't say they literally grew up eating homemade Chicano style food but " I can" and believe me this is where it's at. When I walked In I was given the option of walking up and ordering my food so I could be on my way or eating on the full-service side with a waitress. I kinda liked that concept. I actually sat at the bar and placed my order with the bartender. I had a combo plate that had a huge tamale not one of those little tamales you get everywhere else and it had chunks of pork inside not little pieces...Mmmmmmmm I had the green Chile on the side so I could really taste it, and that's what happened it was REALLY GOOD!!! I ordered the HOT of course and it took me back to mom's kitchen. The kind of food that I've ate since I was a kid. The food is great and the service was even better!!!! I feel saddened by some of the reviews this place has. People these days should really have a little patience when they go out to eat... it's like some of these people who have had bad experiences when they go out aren't wanting a waitress they're expecting a slave. I guess since I've worked in the restaurant industry for about 15yrs I have to take a stance on that . I try and not speak my opinion unless I have a some sort of a background in that particular subject and growing up in a Chicano family pretty much qualifies me. Great place to eat and a thumbs up!!!!! And come on who doesn't have $20 bucks in their pocket these days. BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER!!! Phaster 1

Good food (I like the #4 combo). Great green chili. However, don't ask for your taco on a separate plate (we did because the taco got soggy sitting in the green chili) and they charged us $1.00 per paper plate!!!! It is a great place, but the secret $1.00 paper plate scam upset us enough to not go back. Too sneaky.
