Tamale Kitchen Menu

Oddly enough, the tamales aren't the best thing about this place. This place is close to my house, and open at hours that really work for me--especially in the morning. The food is consistently tasty and ready fast. The staff are friendly enough. The food won't blow you away, but I do enjoy it and the convenience factor is well worth it. 3.5 stars, actually.

I went to Tamale Kitchen to pick up some breakfast around 11:00 on New Year's Day. They get props for being open on New Year's Day because quite a few places are closed. Also, they get extra points for serving breakfast all day. We ordered four burritos. One was smothered, two had chili and cheese on the inside, and one was just a regular burrito. My order took between 20 and 30 minutes to prepare which seemed like quite a while for four breakfast burritos, but they were quite busy, so this may be an unusually long wait. The smothered burrito did not travel well. I had no idea which side was up, and the bag was soaked with chili when I got home. I recommend just ordering with a side of green chili to smother with when you get home. The burrito that stood out as a winner was the sausage. It was packed with little bits of sausage, and the cheese and chili melded into the egg and potato perfectly. The bacon seemed "carelessly" wrapped, and the steak burrito was quite salty. I'd stop by Tamale Kitchen again to check out the non-breakfast fare, but I'll be sure to phone in my order to avoid the long wait.

When we got there the line was out the door, it's obviously very popular. People were in and out really quickly though which is a plus. They didn't keep us waiting for very long. I ordered the chicken burrito special and it was great! A little pricey but not terrible. The reason I'm giving them three stars is because the customer service is nonexistent and there is no seating. Will probably go back but I'm not counting down the days until my next visit.

The food is ok. The burritos definitely outshine the tamales. I would give other locations a much higher rating, but the customer service is awful at this location. They barely acknowledge customers here and when they do, it is short and you feel like you are disturbing them to place an order. I have now had two bad experiences in a row with the guys behind the counter taking orders. Last time one of the guys taking orders was spewing expletives due to the phone ringing. I waited a while to place an order and did not receive any of the customary treatments, hello, welcome, thank you. Will not come to this location again.

The breakfast burritos at this place were great. My partner and I have recently been on a quest to find the best vegetarian green chile in Denver and we have tried quite a few breakfast burritos. So far, this is one of our favorites. The green chile we had was perfectly spiced to have a great taste and not set my mouth on fire. The burritos were a great size and had plenty of fillers. The potatoes inside were especially good. We also tried some of the vegetarian tamales. They weren't anything special, but for $1 a piece that's totally fine. If you're looking for a good breakfast burrito in the Littleton area, I would highly recommend given Tamale Kitchen a try!

Unfortunately, this place has been a dissapointment more times than not lately. We live in the area and have been there many times. On a positive note, their posole is amazing!! We highly recommend the posole. The tamales have not been great lately. And def do not order the Picadillo... it is all potatoe and has no ground beef. Also, do not order the mex hamburger. The hamburger patties seem to have been prev cooked and then maybe frozen?? Horrible quality.Hopefully this helps!

The bald guy who rings people up is so rude, I'll go the extra couple miles and go to the TK on Wadsworth and Chatfield.

The only thing I have eaten so far has been a "special" breakfast burrito with bacon. Specials have the green chili inside. You can also get plain and smothered. I stopped in this morning with $10 in ones and bought a buritto and a bunch of drinks for the kids. Gave the guy my 10 ones and told him I had a lot of ones because I'm a male stripper. He laughed pretty hard. Made me feel like I was not pretty enough to be a male stripper. Foods good, I'll keep going back.

We tried Tamale Kitchen on Kipling for the first time last night, after my kids were indecisive as to what they wanted at another fast food place nearby. The chili and salsa were spicy. The Mexican hamburger burrito was okay, although I did not like the seasoning on the patty. The egg and potato smothered burrito my wife had was pretty good. The prices were decent for fast Mexican style food. I have never been to the Original location, but would like to if their food is allegedly better. The food was fast. The cashiers were smiling at least. It looks like things have changed some since many Reviewers made negative comments on the staff. I would go back and would like to try their tamales and other burritos on the menu.

Breakfast burritos are great but make sure to get it smothered or special. People are always nice and the food reminds me a little of the Mexican street food in LA... It's a good thing lol eat here! It's solid Mexican food

This place could put burrito king out of business if they tried! Awesome burritos, friendly staff, decent prices, but kinda small and not open super late. If you are in the area go here or marias on girton, you wont be disappointed!

They have a menu variety that will keep anyone happy and the quality is pretty good. Their consistency is reliable and it's not a bad deal for quick Mexican take out. The few times I have eaten there, the restaurant and kitchen appear to be clean and presentable. The staff could stand to be a little nicer. I will eat there again.

Mmmm, mmmm good. Tamale kitchen has always been a staple in our house hold since I was little and the one stays right on target of the original tamale kitchen.

Coming from Arizona and growing up eating traditional mexican food this place is "A-OK", as my 3 star rating would suggest. I have been there a few times now and I haven't been disappointed with the quantity of food I receive. The carne asada taco plate is pretty fantastic. Still not like the food back home, but dang close to it. The staff have always been extremely polite and totally patient with my "are you sure this has no wheat in it?" questions. Yes, i ask them each time...

To start, I'm reviewing this place for their breakfast burritos. While the green chile makes my top 5 (depending on my craving for that day), the ratio of potatoes to eggs/meat leaned towards the potatoes, which is not to my liking. Also, the bacon was nearly-burnt-beyond-crunch. (Can you call that un-American?) It is a great place to grab breakfast on most holidays. I believe they said they only close for 4 days of the year (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, forgot the last).

The food was fine, not as good as the Sloans Lake location. The customer service was absolutely horrendous. From the time I placed my order on the phone and felt like I was putting them out, to when I arrived to a lobby full of people waiting on orders and at some point the manager/owner drops the f-bomb because he's unhappy with something one of his employees has told him. Are you kidding me? Then I get up to the counter to pay for my order and the rudeness and unhappiness continued. Maybe he doesn't like his job? Maybe he was having a bad day? But whatever it is I would sure hate to work for him and I will never buy food and has establishment again. Worst customer service ever! I will not be back! I will continue to drive to the one a little further away at Sloans lake.

My burrito was finished before I even finished paying. When I ate the burrito it was pretty obviouse is had been sitting for a while. Gorilla was hard. Chilli was cold. Eggs had gotten hard. Grossed out.

My boyfriend wanted Mexican food in a hurry so we stopped here. It was okay. Canned sauce on my cheese enchiladas. The beans were cold and had crusty parts indicating they had been sitting for awhile. Lots of cheese and sauce on the plate - bit overboard on the sauce. The chips were not fresh - stale. He liked the salsa and his burrito. I thought the salsa was okay - too much heat or it would have tasted better (I'm a Mexican from Phoenix - I like hot but you have to taste the ingredients not just heat!) I ended up with an upset stomach overnight - have to believe it was from the food since it was all I had ate that day but my boyfriend was fine...who knows. I wanted to like this place because it is so close to home and quick, but unless he makes me go there with him again, I won't be returning.

Great value!! And yes they serve breakfast burritos all day long. Can you say egg, potato, bacon smothered for dinner? I usually spend around $5.00 and leave full every single time and the food is always the same which is very important to me. So glad this little gem opened up in the neighborhood and it must be good it is always packed with high school kids for lunch but I can see why since it is such a great value.

Yummy yummy yum yum yum! Love the food!!!! People that work there don't seem too happy or friendly but food is totally worth it!

My sister swears by this place so, staying with her in Littleton and fiending for tacos, we gave them a whirl. We weren't disappointed, but I will have to try them again to get a better feel for their service. The food was very good. The steak and shredded beef in the tacos was well-seasoned, but there needed to be fixings (although in their defense the cashier had never heard of "street-style tacos."). My brother in law's burrito was great but seemed spicier than he expected haha I'm still on the fence about the service. The cashier, who I hear is either an owner or co-owner, was a bit laconic and in repose the look on his face seemed a bit pissed off at my existence. That said he accommodated our order changes and whatever else so he was effective, just ... a bit sinister? We aren't in that area often, but the food was good enough that we're willing to give them another shot, perhaps inserting some more requests into the order to get it just right. I get the impression they'll work with us. Will report back ...

Several times now I call to place a Togo order, get placed on hold and then get hung up on after 5 min of being on hold! The counter girl is extremely rude. I tried to call ahead to save time before work only to be treated rudely and hung up on???? Get your people in line Went in today. Togo again. Order completely wrong... Actually don't bother calling ahead either bc it doesn't make a difference in the time you wait. This place sucks.

  • Azar S.

The food here is great but the customer service and the many times they will get your order wrong brings it down to a generous two stars. If you get someone's order wrong try to take fault at it rather then throw blame at the customers. We have had the breakfast burritos here for many years but this last time was the final straw. It's too bad. I rather drive to their location further then this one from my house in order to get better service. Guys at the front who take the orders, fix your attitude, the world doesn't owe you anything.

I love the original Tamale Kitchen at Morrison Rd and Sheridan. At Christmas time, I buy a mess of tamales, green chile, and all the fixings for a family Christmas Eve fiesta. When this store opened in my neighborhood, I jumped for joy. Joy didn't particularly like that, so I stopped jumping. ;o) Boy, was I surprised! Everything costs at least a buck more than the Morrison and Sheridan store, from burritos to combination plates. For example, a Pork Special burrito (meaning with green chile inside) is $5.00. Smothered, it is over $6.00. For ONE burrito. I don't recall paying more than $4.00 for the same item at the other store. Don't even try to buy your tamales here for Christmas, not unless you want to take out a loan. Though they taste the same (everything does, thankfully), they're easily twice the price of those sold at the original store. This is a tiny cantina. If you're a big guy like me, get it to go. There's no place to sit for the "big boned." The wait staff is usually depressed and disinterested in helping customers. In the few years I've stopped in, usually with a coupon, I have yet to receive a thank you for my business. If you don't want to drive over to Morrison and Sheridan and have a coupon, stop in. For any other reason, especially if you're ordering a few items, it's less expensive to drive to the original. And, that's a shame!

Calling it like it is......weak! Weak chile offering in the rellenos, especially during a bountiful harvest time. The least impressive wonton wrapper rellenos (which in itself is disappointing) I've sampled in Colorado. Weak tomato sauce with some green chile in it being served as their "green chile" smothering. Only impressive thing about the sauce was how un-green chile like it was! I'd skip this place unless you are stuck on foot in the burbs. Anywhere on Federal, Alameda or Sheridan areas are better.

I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't love this place... I've been here a handful of times. I had always gotten tamales since it's the closest tamale joint in the area (and I don't feel like driving 20 minutes away to Tamales Moreno). The tamales are just too spicy. And I LOVE spicy things, it's just too much. I can barely finish one until I have to tap out D: I gave their chili cheese fries a try. Like, how can you go wrong with chili fries, amirite? But nooooooooope. It feels as if satan has got a hold of your taste buds and there's no lookin back. Too spicy to enjoy. They could Atleast make different levels of hotness IMO. To me it's just not worth the heartburn and their cooking is nothing special. You can get better at a small mom & pop restaraunt.

Great breakfast burritos. My goto spot when I'm feeling spicy in the morning and need a quick fix. They are super quick with the food and they have to be with the amount of people I see going in and out in the morning to get there quick breakfast burrito fix. There tamales are pretty decent too. Lots of plates and stuff to choose from but all I ever get is the breakfast burrito like every one else. Overall beet quick breakfast burrito place I know!

This is a considerably close location however, I would rather drive to the original Tamale Kitchen on Morrison Rd. I ordered a smothered mexican hamburger and the hamburger patty inside looked like a black square brick. I am not sure if it was old or freezer burnt, either way it looked disgusting and nothing like any hamburger I have ever seen. Very disappointed, and will not be ordering from here again.

I have been coming to this place for 3 yrs now and they have gotten worse each time I visit. The quality of food and their customer service needs a major revamp!!! Sorry to say this was my last visit.

I love this place! T.k. is a staple within my diet. There are a couple of them in the Littleton area both bomb! Personally I favor the Bellview location. Of course there known for there breakfast burritos, but everything there is amazing. Also if you really have a craving, the steak breakfast burrito is worth the extra few dollars. They load it up with the steak! If you have never been here and love Mexican food I suggest you try this place. Don't let the take out atmosphere fool you. Its good Mexican food. For a good price

This is very good food .Authentic flavor and reasonably priced . Green chili is very tasty and tamales are excellent ! Burrito gets a little soggy smothered I would order it on the side . Very busy place so be prepared to wait a bit .

Visiting the area, a friend and i stopped in after hearing about the 24 hour breakfast burritos. LOVING BB's i was super excited. I was a little disappointed , they weren't as great as people had said they were. A little on the spicy side and had a chili mixture in it. They were more like a burrito with egg, which doesn't constitute a breakfast burrito. It was a good atmosphere, a d the staff was super helpful. Id recommend trying something else on the menu.

I can eat a dozen tamales from this place straight up. I order them 20 minutes ahead of time put on a disquise and sneak out like a Mexican James Bond. They are the shiznit, however they are sometimes dry. This place won't hurt the wallet.

One expects mixed results in buying Mexican food in a worn out shopping center where Diary Queen seems busier than the Safewey. But after a long day of hiking in Indian Peaks, knowing margs could be made quickly cooking fell into another day and we decided to try the Tamale Kitchen. This is an order an the counter and eat in, take home type of place with mexicans cooking a fine brew of great chile. The chile reanos were crispy, full of cheese and pepper, yet the green veggie chili was flavorful, hot and among the best I have had in Denver. I am not a tamale fan, but Westside girl swore these were top rated and also enjoyed the kick green chile. This local place seems to have a real following, the food order takes about 5 minutes, no tipping is required and you will enjoy your take home dinner without cooking just for one night!

Yes - It is real yummy! Try the stuffed sopapilla! I agree - the atmosphere just can't compare to the one closer to downtown, but all we can do is tell people it's got good Mexican food!! They have Pepsi!

This location opens earlier than the other LIttleton spot but not as early as the original location (and yes, it is pricier!). I love their chile. Whatever you get, make sure to get some chile on the side!

When they first opened, I ordered the bacon/potato/egg smothered breakfast burrito. They were unable to fulfill this order because it was the middle of the afternoon. I was furious, especially since I had always been able to order this burrito at the Sheridan/Mississippi branch. I vowed never to return to this location. I guess they received quite a few complaints because, not only do they now offer "my" breakfast burrito at any time of the day, but they even have a sign posted in the window about this "correction" to the menu. The recipe is the same as the Sheridan/Mississippi location so I am never disappointed. But the place is almost TOO sterile looking, so I always take my burrito home.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
