Best smothered burritos that I have ever eaten. This little treasure has been around forever and hasn't changed a bit. The tacos are nothing special... But if you want a good burrito this is the place to go.

I've been going to Taco House for 40 years and I USED to love it. Since the new owners have taken over the food has become just aweful it's tasteless and completely bland and way too expensive for what you get. They have changed out ingrediants and I think they water down their sauces to make it go farther because it tastes like its been watered down. Any way my family and friends a VERY DISAPPOINTED since the new owners have taken over and ruined it !!!

    (2)
  • Matt D.

Been coming here 30 years. I LOVE it! Burrada with onions is my mainstay. This place is what Littleton is all about! They sell their enchilada sauce by the carton too. It's awesome.

    (5)
  • Nathan C.

This is by far the worst "taco" place that I have ever been to! The only thing worse than the service was the so called "tacos"!

    (1)
  • Jen T.

I've been going to Taco House my entire life, and I love it! Best when paired with a trip to the Littleton Historical Museum, just up the street. Probably the biggest dive you will ever eat at, (don't be scared by the bullet holes in the window) but it's worth it once you try the enchilada sauce. SO GOOD! I always get 3 cheese enchiladas with onions. Delicious. A lot of their food is pretty bland, but the enchilada sauce is wonderful, and also it's tradition! Not a full service restaurant -- you seat yourself and pay up at the desk, but you (kind of) get the attention of one of the staff members as far as ordering your food goes. Conveniently there is a big air vent located underneath all their little toy machines. Let's just say when I was a kid I lost my quarters down there more than once...

    (4)
  • Lance C.

This place is classic! It feels like an old-style diner that happens to serve Americanized Mexican food instead of greasy spoon grub. The ladies are nice and the food is very inexpensive. It's just like the 'Mexican food' your folks made growing up, if you're a gringo. Summary: Cheap, simple, retro.

    (3)
  • Keith V.

If you are crawling with 2 broken legs and just can't go any further without nourishment, then go ahead and eat here. Otherwise go just about anyplace else. Food Is more expensive than Taco Bell and not near as good. And TB isn't "great", but that should give u an idea.

    (2)
  • Don R.

First time here and it was like going back in time. Except the price, food price good but $2 for a fountain pepsi. Got a chicken burrito and it was nothing to right about, would not recommend.

I have been going to Taco House for over 30 years. I believe the store on Littleton Boulevard in Littleton, Colorado is the best out of all of them. I travel quite the distance for the meal. They have good food, friendly staff and a homey atmosphere. The prices are reasonably priced. The menu is filled with a large array of foodie goodness. Taco House has been in the Denver Metro Area for over 50 years. I come from the old school "All You Can Eat," so I've had my fair share of this "Colorado Mex" over the years. I get the same thing every time. I even take my mother there for Mother's Day. My whole family loves the Taco House. Many forsake it. I think those forsakers are crazy and wrong. Support local businesses and give Taco House a try. You'll be glad you did.

  • LARENA M.

Only have had the tacos here which couldnt be more american gringo...blech! Not the least bit authentic

  • Christopher W.

Sat down for some cheap Mexican food. Did not have high hopes. But when we ordered a couple of cokes and received chips that came from a bag served alongside the green slop that people from Colorado call "green chili," it was time to take a pass. We got up to leave, having consumed three chips and a few sips of coke and were presented with a bill for $5! Seriously? Suddenly the complimentary chips carried a charge and customer service was flushed down the toilet. On Cinco de Mayo no less! If this is what passes for customer service in this town, it makes me want to open a better Mexican food restaurant next door (I'll call it Taco Casa) and drive Taco House out of business. Never again. Nunca Màs!

    (1)
  • Kent T.

Taco House has perfectly acceptable take-out Mexican fare. They even have a drive-up window for this purpose. Daily specials and some of the hotter "green" chile around. I'd equate their food to Chubby's (the two locations on I-225/Miss. and Quebec/County Line). Note that I said "take-out", because the interior has all the appeal of a late 70's truck stop. Probably not a place you'd take a date to, but a place you'd hit up with your friends.

    (3)
  • Miles H.

Food isn't bad for the price. Not the most updated place but has a little cozy feel. I go every once in a while with my mom. A cheap lunch a very filling.

  • Eileen E.

Taco house is a fun place. We have been eating here since the 70s. Seems it doesn't really ever change. It's cheap food. Better than fast food. The same ladies have been taking care of us for years. We don't go often cuz we need to try to be careful with our weight but we have to go in evey now and then just for old time sake. The place is not filthy. The staff are friendly. The food is cheap and easy to love.

    (3)
  • Ryan S.

Littleton icon worth the stop and good for quick family dining. Chicken enchiladas are great. Drive thru is a fun experience, but you can also dine in. Love the throwback wood paneling.

  • RS W.

So what if it looks the same going in as it does coming out? How about some retried beans? Yes, I meant to type retried... The salsa is the best in the galaxy - maybe even the universe.

I've been to this Taco House three times now - the first time I was kinda grossed out because I thought the place was somewhat dirty and I had it in my mind that I wasn't going to like the food. However, Taco house is one of my boyfriend's all-time favorite fast food places. He craves the salsa - he thinks it's the best in Denver metro! So, he begged me to go back and try it a second time, which I did with an open mind. This time it didn't seem dirty but just outdated instead. You get one complimentary basket of chips and salsa - the chips are the round kind you'd think of when buying corn chips in bulk. The salsa was definitely tasty - it's not chunky at all, which I actually kinda like. I ordered the daily speical, which (on Tuesday) was two beef hardshell tacos, beans and rice or $2.99 - what a DEAL!! I also had a guacamole tostada, which I enjoyed. My fiance had three tacos and a burrata, which is a bean burrito smothered in red enchilada sauce. This definitely isn't a place that I will seek out on my own or with friends but I won't mind coming back once in a while in order to please my boyfriend.

    Chicken enchiladas. Enough said.

    (3)
  • M Julie R.

This was absolutely the worst meal I have had in my life. The cheapest ingredients were used. It is not authentic Mexican food at all. It is worse than anyone can make out of their kitchen and out of a box.

    (1)
  • Tres B.

Its cheap! Do you rememberwhen your mom made tacos in pre-made shells. NOT SPICY!! kids dont like that. That's the kind of tacos you find here. Bland, boring and cheap. Housed in a 1950's dry cleaner's building, it has a surprizingly large but spartan "dining" area. The counter girl was nice and served us round chips that obviously came from a bag. And the day we were here, the medium age was roughly 80. No wonder the food is so bland. I do not reccomend.

    (2)
  • Clay D.

Tacos were acceptable..79 cents..Id rather have .49 cent del taco tacos..The bean burrito is one of the worst ive ever had..

    (2)
  • Caleb A.

Get in here and try their $2.99 breakfast burrito. By far the best deal in town! Lunch is good too. This is no frills dinning at its best.

    (5)
  • Adam S.

Got take out here a few days ago. Not very good. The bean burrito was pretty bland. I would have preferred having a taco bell bean burrito if that tells you anything. The chicken soft taco had a flavor that was slightly off. If you're looking for serviceable Mexican, keep looking...

    (1)
  • Claire S.

I too exhausted to cook dinner this past week and asked hubby to pick up taco bell on the way home for our dinner. Somehow that translated to taco house. I wish it had been taco bell. My chicken quesadilla was really bland, and my beef soft taco was gross to the point where I didn't eat it. Not very good :(

  • Ricky S.

I have been going to The Taco House since 1978. I have seen a lot of things there. I have even had my son work there for a limited time. The last time I went I used the pick up window. Ordered 3 cheese enchilada plates which come with 3 tostada shells "chips" with cheese, guacamole, beans smeared on them. Only 2 were missing the "chips" they call them. Price was a little higher then I remember, like $17. They also did not have a lot of sauce on the enchilladas. They were very dry. I figured they are headed the wrong direction for me to go back.. Sorry

    (1)
  • Stan L.

I like Taco House. My wife went there as a child and introduced it to me back in the late 80's. I thought it was weird at first but it grew on me. I love the cheese enchilladas as well as the cheese queso chips. The tend to change the queso recipe at times which sucks, but I adjust to the change.

  • John B.

I wasn't ever going to even bother writing a review for this "restaurant" since I figure if you're eating there you probably don't care what you put in your mouth. Anyway, I went there and got a burrito and (just a burrito - no drink, no other item of any kind). and they brought it out "to-go". I said "well I think I'll eat it here" the manager said. "No, you didn't spend enough to eat here". Ok, I know it's my fault for even thinking about eating here but this crappy place with dubious clientele has the nerve to say this? OMG? DON'T EVER EAT HERE! So overall FOOD - Horrible, SERVICE - Rude.

  • Caroline C.

Taco House is probably the diviest little hole in the wall I have ever seen, but when I first noticed it last Friday night, it was absolutely hopping. We dropped by a couple of days later to get a quick snack. I'm not quite sure what the deal is because there was a sign on the door saying "No Entry" but inside, tables were quite clearly laid with flatware, napkins etc. A tiny photocopied menu is taped next to the drive-thru window but it was completely impossible to read, so we just ordered an assortment of items - tacos, enchiladas, chalupa etc, all around the $1.70 mark - plus a beef, bean and cheese burrito ($3.50). I was halfway through my taco - complaining about how totally bland it was - when I discovered the little tubs of salsa under the napkins in the bag! While the food was still decidedly mediocre, the salsa actually gave it some decent flavor. I'd rather have Del Taco, but this would be good as post-bar drunk food.

  • Suzi S.

Taco House is to Mexican food what McDonalds is to a "real" hamburger. So is Taco Bell, and we still like it! So whiie it is less-than-authentic Mexican food, it is tasty in its own way! I crave their cheese enchiladas (order a side of their tasty "dark red" salsa with them) and their tostadas and tacos. It used to be super cheap, and is now just reasonable in terms of price. I think the service is not superb, but it is generally friendly and not terrible. I dig the fact that it is so retro, not because they tried to make it look that way - it just does. The guac is unique as well, but dang tasty!

  • Gary O.

I have to agree with the other users that said this place looked like a dive...it does...and that is precisely why a friend and I decided to try it out. However...we were disappointed to find out that this dive unfortunately didn't have very good food :-( There were only two other people in the place when we cane in but it took them about 5 minutes to come over and take our order?? We split some tacos and enchiladas and were surprised at how tasteless they were. The whole time we were there I kept thinking this was a poorly executed knock off of a taco bell...but don't get me wrong...I much prefer the tacos at taco bell. Save your money and hit the drive through at any fast food taco place for a better set of tacos.

    (2)
  • Mike N.

I love the bullet holes in the windows, makes me feel like I'm actually in Mexico. The special combination is smoothed in green chili, that's actually red. The red chili is redder but i digress. The chips are usually a day or two old, but the salsa is good. They always say the plates are hot, so I touch the plate and burn my finger. The waitresses are usually pretty heavy, that means the food is good.

    (5)
  • Adam M.

I really want to like this place. It's a total dive in an odd location, which means it should have the best mexican food ever. Unfortuantely, it doesn't. I've been here a few times now and it's a different experience every time. The tacos seem to be relatively dependable. Nothing special, just a basic taco for $0.80. Everything else is hit or miss. Some times it's good, sometimes it tolerable, sometimes it's terrible. Bottom line: If you need a cheap snack, the tacos are dependably decent. Try something different if you're feeling brave. 2 stars for the food, one star for the prices.

  • Steven G.

NO MORE BEER! They no longer serve beer. I was disapointed. Not just in the fact that they don't sale beer but also in the service, the stale chips, the cold salsa, and the bland flavor. It took forever to get out drinks after we ordered and everytime we needed something it took 10 minutes. The barrada was good but could of used more spice. And the chili reyenos were the best part of the meal.

  • Christopher S.

Good, cheap food and the best enchiladas in town. Going to go get some right now.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
