Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We really enjoyed the food here. Everything was delicious! Small place but very attentive staff. My husbands favorite is the cheese dip. It's the white cheese. Most places have the yellow cheese and it's not as good in our opinion.
(5)Deana K.
I have to say, this was my favorite Mexican out of 8 years of eating it in Colorado. I didn't expect much walking in, but I was surprised. The cheese dip was out of this world. The best I have ever had. i get so tired of runny cheese dip, and this was thick and spiced perfectly. I ordered a quesadilla which really hit the spot! The man running the place was so nice and such a good waiter. i can't wait to go back!

Service was good and the environment was very child friendly but my plate was sort of bland. I got chicken tacos and a chicken enchilada and the chicken was mostly unseasoned and the enchilada dry. My husband got a combo with a relleno, and the green chile over the relleno was decently flavored. Would most likely not go out of the way to go there again, but not a bad experience.

So tonight my wife was like, "Mark - find a good Mexican place that we could try". "OK, hold on, my eye itches. I think I'm allergic to that stupid cat!", I exclaimed. "Talk to me like you love me, Mark", she responded. "OK, sorry honey. I love you. Does my eye look red?" "A little, but that's probably because you've been rubbing it." So after my eye got a little better, I got onto Yelp. I found Hacienda Real and saw some great reviews. Things like, 'best Mexican food I've had in Colorado in 8 years" and "OMG I love the cheese dip" and "great margaritas'!! This left me feeling pretty confident that I found THE PLACE. Packed up the family and headed West. I'm gonna just be real with you. Usually my Yelp reviews are either 5 Stars: THESE GUYS ARE THE BEST! or 1 Star: "I'd give them ZERO, if it were possible!!!" But this time I am feeling more sensible. Ambiance - great hole-in-the-wall, family owned strip mall thing going for it. Good. My style. Service - 5 stars. Great service. Margaritas - 1 star. Where's the booze. These margs are reminiscent of those horrible "all inclusive" Mexican resorts Salsa - good Queso - delicious! In a weird totally non-glamorous way. 5 Stars. Food - pretty typical menu. My wife an I split the huge combo plate. I forget what it's called but it's $13 bucks. It was good. Not mind blowing. I always order Sopapillas and although these are not traditional, puffy, super hot, pillows, these were instead flat, dense, and with lots of cinnamon and sugar. Served with honey already on them and whipped cream. I love the traditional kind but I devoured these. Overall it was not a horrible experience. Would have gotten i4 stars if: 1. They put tequila in the margs 2. Maybe in the guac, which I forgot to mention, add cilantro and white onion. But best Mexican Food in Denver in 8 years? Lady, where the hell have you been going. There are many better options.

We go here often, can't stop loving the chicken fajita burrito, maybe some of the best Mexican we've had! Definitely not to be missed! Salsa is so good! Really nice family who owns the place, always courteous and polite!
(5)Dave W.
Took the family for lunch. Chips and salsa were really good but they don't give you many and gave us attitude when we asked for another basket for our table of 5. None of the dishes we had were very good. Quessidilla, huevoes con chorizo, and chimmichanga's. Nothing was dirty or gross but to say we were underwhelmed would be putting it lightly.

Tried this place for lunch for the first time the other day. It's a small place that I didn't even know existed, but I happened to meet a friend nearby, so decided to give it a try. The place is very nicely decorated, felt clean and the service was friendly and fast. I really liked the chips and salsa -- another reviewer said it was watery, but it just wasn't a typical salsa. More of a nice sauce. And the chips were thick and crunchy -- much better than the typical tortillas I get at other restaurants. It was delicious. I ordered off the lighter lunch menu (LOVE it when restaurants list lighter options!) I doubt it was really light, though, since it was covered in cheese and sour cream, which I should have told them to leave off ;) So they probably don't think about calories -- just the word "spinach". I had the spinach enchilada with rice and black beans. Everything tasted good to me -- not too salty as another reviewer said. My share of the bill was about $11 total, including tip (I just drink water). I'm not a Mexican-food connoisseur, so others may be more finicky, but I left satisfied.

Best mex in town. Not Americanized. It's a humble place that makes incredible food. I've never had a bad meal, everything is special. Food is just amazing, if you think a mexican restaurant is just combinations of burritos, tacos, enchilada's etc..then this place has those things, and they are excellent, but the real magic is the entree's like arroz con polo, one of my personal favorites.
(5)Ryan S.
The food here is incredible. It's a friendly family-run establishment. We started coming here a few years ago and go every Christmas when we travel back home for the holidays. The salsa is absolutely delicious (homemade--good enough that we buy some from them when we go) and the chicken taquito appetizer is the best I've ever had. UPDATE: Still good, but not as incredible as I remember it. Knocked a star off my review.

I enjoy this restaurant. I've been there about three times, and have have been pleased each time. A previous reviewer in 2008 mentioned bland salsa, but they have apparently changed it, as it is now a nice smoky chipotle style. On my last visit I had the Espresso Burrito, stuffed with pork, rice and beans, smothered with excellent green chili and topped with guacamole. Their menu mentions that the food is fresh and home made, and that definitely seems to be the case. Also, the happy hour margaritas are only $2.50.
(4)Eric B.
Friendly small place, truly family owned. The colorado chile and pork chile are the best in town. Try the Tres Amigos, (colorado chile, pork chile and a chile relleno) its great!!!
(5)R P.
I've been to this restaurant several times on my own for a quick lunch and have thought the food is good and very reasonably priced. However today, I brought my two sons with me. I did not get the feeling that they were welcome there. Thankfully they behaved like little adults and we ate quickly and left. I was charged $3.50 per glass of OJ for the kids in addition to their $4.55 per child's meal. I am from Hawaii and places don't even charge that much for a child's drink there. Unfortunately won't be back.

We are a family of 8 so normally you would think a place like this is too small. Well don't think that because they are more than accommodating. I have been going here for 6 years and the flavor is the same. Authentic Mexican food from your grandmothers kitchen is what you will find here. If you haven't mastered your own recipe of salsa buy theirs. It's amazing!
(5)Oliver W.
We have waited too long to give Hacienda Real a review. We have been going to this place for almost 2 years and never has their quality of service, food or kindness strayed. Our 8 year old absolutely loves the heat in their fresh salsa along with the ground beef tacos. We are usually greeted by the owners young son (I believe) and his serving skills are on point!!! My wife and I always get their vegetarian fajitas and its more than enough food to two! In all honesty, we order their black bean soup for take-out quite frequently...Out of all the places to visit in Littleton, I recommend this one hands down!!
(4)Kyle T.
Was looking for some fresh carne asada tacos and this place didn't disappoint. We were greeted by a dapper 10 or 11-year-old kid who sat us and took our drink orders. He must have been the owner's son but it was pretty cool to see. Authentic Mexican themed decor and comfortable chairs. I ordered the tacos al carbon. The portions are really big here. The carne asada was seasoned and cooked perfectly I was really happy with it. Ingredients tasted fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for fresh, authentic Mexican food.
(4)Anonymous O.
Food is amazing. Wonderful sauces. Great family establishment that provides excellent service and value. High quality of food and preparation. Best Mexican in town...hands down! (and believe me we have tried them all)
(5)Carol F.
New favorite Mexican! After too many boring 3 Margaritas dinners, it was refreshing to taste fresh flavorful food here. Nice servers, yummy food. Ask good.
(4)Josh B.
My family and I come here frequently. Great food, nice clean restaurant, family run. Service is great. If your in the area it's worth a try. Large portions for the $12.00 range. The salsa is delicious.!
(4)Cindy P.
This is a fabulous authentic Mexican restaurant! Everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed their lunch; even the kids. The tacos el pastor were the best I've ever tasted! Homemade salsa and so munch flavor.
(5)Jill T.
Love this place!! Small, quaint and delicious. I have visited the same three Mexican restaurants as listed on previous review and this one by far is this BEST!!!
(5)Brandon Y.
So, I'm gonna give this place a three, which to me is a perfectly fine review. Don't think of a three as bad! It means exactly what it means: A-OK! Tried this place on a recommendation, and I was happy with the experience. Some people who follow my reviews know one thing about me, and that's that I like simple food. I think so much cuisine is overdone these days, and really all most people need to do is focus on the basics. I love diners, and mom/pops for that reason. I enjoyed the Queso Fundido, which is one of my favourite dishes anywhere. The chorizo was slightly sweet, and I like that it's served in a taco shell. I got the chimichanga, as I'm on a mission to find the best one in town. Unfortunately, this one doesn't compete. The chicken was slightly dry (as was in the enchiladas that my fiance got), and there weren't tons of flavors, but the food was decent, and the service was friendly. So, nothing to write home about, but decent. I liked the atmosphere as well. And I would still take it over some fancy uptight place.

I love, love, love Mexican food and this place didn't disappoint. We were seated immediately after walking in and our server was awesome! I really got a chance to enjoy authentic Mexican food without someone breathing down my throat or asking too many questions. I don't think we left one scrap on our plates!! Plus while waiting for the food, we enjoyed the authentic Mexican atmosphere. From the real oil paintings to the comfy chairs and other art, this place was everything we expected it to be. We will definitely make the drive to eat there again!
(4)Devin R.
Excellent food and service! The margaritas were not very strong, though. In my opinion that's a bad thing.
(4)Melanie W.
Service was incredibly slow and inattentive. Rice was barely warm, food was just passible, drinks were only so-so.
(2)Elle M.
We had a child server (maybe 10?), he sat by the table next to us so that was awkward. The food was bleh. I've definitely had better. It's a cute place and I enjoyed the margaritas.
(2)Stephanie E.
This place is awesome. The family is friendly, they are fast and the food is excellent. Some of the best mexican food in town. The food is fresh and authentic and very flavorful. I do not like bland mexican food and this has great flavor and is fresh!
(5)Georgia T.
I really enjoyed this restaurant! After visiting three other Mexican restaurants....3 margaritas, el tapatio, and hacienda, this is by far the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in the Littleton area. Not only did I get great service the food was authentic Mexican. It tastes great, fresh, no lack on seasonings, and presented very well. There was a young boy who brought us water and was very polite! That's all he did and I don't have a problem with that! I had the garlic shrimp and it was very delicious. They put an extra side of garlic oil incase you would like more. The portions are huge and at a reasonable price. The complimentary salsa was very good! The restaurant is very small, but very enjoyable at the same time! I will be back for sure!!
(5)Jessica L.
Saltiest food ever! I felt myself getting bloated as i took each bite. I had to ask for extra lettuce and tomatoes to help the saltiness. This was like two years ago but I just thought of it. Maybe i went on an off night but i will never return.
(1)Patrick C.
This is our go-to Mexican place. We've tried a number of other place in Littleton and found this to be the best of the bunch. The food is fairly consistant and usually above average. Service can be hit or miss for sure, but it is always friendly. Prices are reasonable and parking is a non-issue. Not my favorite Mexican place in the Denver Metro area, but for one close to home, this fits the bill nicely.
(4)Jacob S.
Sorry the other reviewer had a bad experience. I just wanted to chime in for a place that my family frequents. This is a small, family style mexican resturant. If you are looking for trendy and hip, go elsewhere. =). The family that owns the place is very friendly. The owner and his kids will most likely be waiting on you and/or cooking for you. It's not always the fastest place to eat, but it is always fresh, tasty and served with a smile. Yes, the TV is usually on a cartoon. The food is great here. We have tried all the mexican places around, and this our fav. The chicken fajitas are fantastic, as is the espresso burrito and the chicken mole. My wife loves fajitas and they have the best in the metro area according to her. Everything I have ordered has always been wonderful, but I keep coming back to those favorites that I have. Also, the portions are huge. My wife and I will order a single order of chicken fajitas, and we take enough leftovers home for me to eat for lunch the next day. The chips and salsa are good as well. go before 6 and margs are buy 1 get 1 for happy hour. Overall, a great place that I always bring out of town guests to check out.

This place has great Mexican food. Hard to find in the Denver area, let alone Littleton. Skip the other places and make this your mainstay for great Mexican. Excellent food!!
(5)Lindsey B.
I adore this place. It is nothing fancy but the service is always excellent, the food wonderful and the ambiance delightfully cheesy.
(5)Caroline C.
This is another restaurant I feel bad having to rate so poorly. On the one hand, it's a cute little place with bright and cheery decor, and quirky furniture. The staff are so friendly, and greet you like old friends. Food is brought FAST, and is incredibly reasonably priced. If only the food was as good... Chips and salsa were probably the worst I've ever had - hard dry chips, watery bland salsa. Usually when I'm hungry, I'll eat them anyway but I had two or three, and called it a day. I opted for the Burrito Colorado ($8.50) which was big, but the pork was so fatty that I had to pick each piece out with the fork, and carefully trim off the gristle before I could eat it. His chilli relleno was small, bland with no discernable poblano flavor/heat. The cheese enchilada wasn't too bad but, again, was on the small side. Not sure what was going on with the accompanying "coleslaw" but it was grey dry and tasted downright nasty. The worst thing about both meals was how incredibly salty everything was (and I like salt). I downed two glasses of water in about five minutes. If I could, I would give HR 2.5 stars. Cute and cozy place but the food is so-so.
(2)Victoria D.
I moved here from Texas a few years ago, and I'm pretty picky about Mexican food. This is by far the best Mexican food I've found in the Littleton area. I had a cheese enchilada and a taco, along with rice and beans. Everything was great. I also had a great mango margarita. The staff was really friendly, and it's a very cute place inside. It's also family friendly. They have a stack of kids' books for kids to read. Love that!
(5)Amanda L.
I'm not exactly sure why everyone raves about this place. It's like every other mediocre or less than mediocre Mexican restaurant I have found in Denver so far. It's shame because Mexican food is... was... my favorite food... until I moved to Denver. I liked the service, though, so I waited a long time to write this review. Sadly, though, I have not seen any reviews pop up that seem genuine for this place so I had to write it. I have seen comments about the food being "authentic". It is not. At all. Again, I really like the staff. They seem like good people. I just cannot vouch for the food.
(2)Marcus F.
The food was just ok. The prices, though, were great. The staff was kind and the service was fast. The drinks were so-so.
(3)Joseph S.
Amazing! Wow, from the looks of it in a strip mall I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was greatly impressed! From the great complimentary chips and salsa, and one of the BEST chili relleno's I have had! Don't judge it by its location, highly recommended!!!
