Hacienda Colorado Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I worked in Las Vegas at On the border for celebrity chefs Too Hot Tamales. They are still my número Uno for Mexican cuisine with balanced bites of freshness. This was number two. The atmosphere was more texmex and so my expectations were thinking this was going to be another American version of tacos. Wrong! So good. Love the big cups too. Perfect on a warm day in Colorado!

I won't lie--There are better Mexican food restaurants out there. However, I don't think you'll be able to find a Mexican restaurant with as good of a gluten free menu. The food is really good. The reason it's "mountain mex" is because they wood fire the meat, which is delicious. I'm a huge fan of their carnitas enchiladas. The fish tacos are also really good. My one complaint is that the waiting staff is not great when they're busy. If you come in at an off peak time, you usually get really good service. However, when we come in and they're really busy, they don't always offer the best service. For example, the last time we were there, the waiter came by our table four times in the course of an hour and a half. Basically, to take our order, to deliver our food and to drop off the check and pick up payment. It would have been nice to order more drinks in the middle of our meal. Overall, it's a good restaurant when they're slow. It's only decent when they're busy.

Great service and food. I had the fish tacos and they were amazing but not a very large dish.

The food was below average and the service is terrible. Chimichanga tastes like frozen and not thoroughly cooked. Carnitas bland. Happy Hour appetizers the best part of the night! And the free b day dessert was a nice touch.

We've been to Hacienda Colorado before and as usual the food was great. Hubby always gets the steak changa and I make sure to get a relleno. We took our 18 year old son for the first time and he got the steak burrito. We even indulged in the tres leches cake this time. Although I'm not a fan of tres leches in general, it was pretty good. Our waiter was extrememly polite and courteous. My only complaint was that it was loud - lots of small kids that night. Not a deal breaker though - we will definately be back.

Honest review. 3 stars because the margaritas are great! The drink was definitely the best part of the meal. 3 stars also because the food was mediocre. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, whether that be "Colorado Mexican" food this is not the place. The food was pretty Americanized to me, but still good nonetheless. The service was fine. This is not meant to be a bad review, but more average because that is what I found this place to be. Average.

I'm pretty sure even the water has meat in it. I have never seen a menu that offers fewer vegetarian items. Although I liked the cheese quesadilla that I ordered, I had to forgo the beans, sauce, and any other potential sides because everything (literally everything) is made with some kind of meat. However, the waitress was very willing to accommodate me after I told her I didn't want any meat in my dish. She was very knowledgable about what I could and could not order, and my dish came out exactly as I had requested. The food here is decent. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's far from the worst. My favorite thing about this place is the fried ice cream. It's so fantastic.

The food and service is great 5 STARS! i always get their smothered burrito and usually crave it when we are wanting to get mexican food. Here is why i took off 2 stars literally every time we go they have an extra long wait... one night we tried to take family that came into town there they said it would be 45 minutes for 6 people on a thursday night we waited a while and then decided to go to another restaurant while we were finishing our food at another popular busy restaurant they called us to tell us our table was ready. Seems like they always have a 30 minute wait at least for 4 people. Obviously other people must think the food and service is 5 stars since they are always packed but with 2 kids we cant wait 30 minutes for a table and another 20 minutes or so for dinner, now i just go for lunch at random times.

First time here.. Sam the waiter is by far one of the best we have had from anywhere in denver. It takes someone special to stand out in my mind such as he did.. His suggestions and insight was unparalleled. The food was really good and the carnitas enchiladas with green Chile space top notch.. Between the food and service this will Definitely become a goto spot, good job Hacienda!

Used to be a really good restaurant with delicious food. Gone seriously downhill in the last 2-3 years. I'm looking for a new Mex. place because this no longer meets our minimum expectations. Food is poor! Margaritas are still good.

Closest thing to Tex-Mex I've had since I've been in Colorado, didn't satisfy the craving fully but definitely helped!

Came here last night for my cousin's birthday and YUM! Tasty guac, great salsa and I had the Ranch Steak Chimi and it was delicious! I took away one star because I ordered spicy queso with my chimi and got something else. It was good, but next time I'll hope to get the queso :). I didn't say anything and was perfectly fine with my meal; my family was a big, loud group :).

We love this place! Been here several times, good food, great service, & strong frozen margaritas (don't drive)! We had a super sweet server "London" whom took off my honey's margarita without hassle because it was too strong for him :) "No problem at all." she said. Everyone whom gave refills or bused our table asked how everything was...simply WONDERFUL!

  • susan o.

Absolutely the best corn tortillas! The margaritas were wonderful too. I would give 5 stars but the salsa was quite forgettable. However, the smoky jalapeno sauce on the entrée was soooo good!

So we come here for happy hour after work. Its a good deal. The food is always good, but somehow a tiny off for me. I don't know. I like it, but don't love it. Its a variation on mexican food that is good, solid, but not great. Their green chile is bizarre, more like a salsa. But the guac is fab. Its solid for happy hour beer, margs and a light snack. The service is solid. Mostly friendly and accomodating. The beer is a great deal 3 bucks for a pint of 4 or 5 draft selections and the margs are good. My favorite thing is the hooks on the tables and bar to put your purse on.

Happy Hour! The daily drink special has something for anyone throughout the week. The applewood smoked carnitas is really delicious. We have tried several dishes with the slow roasted applewood pork and each have been quite good. During happy hour, if you are there early, just head to the bar for great service and good drinks. some of the appetizer specials are worth every bite (spinach/mushroom quesadilla, flautas, pineapple tortas).

  • Dawn N.

I used to love this place and it's unique green chili and the smoked refried beans and every time I keep thinking whatever they changed they will return back to their old recipes and they haven't. The portions used to be huge and now they use the same plates but the portions are much smaller. I wish they would return to their old ways!

Expensive for the quality of food. Friends described it as Co-Mex. I say it's tends to be bland and takes forever to serve. Service was delightful. Our waitress was Johnny on the spot with refills. Mediocre experience.

Stopped in just a few minutes ago. Were greeted at the door nice enough and the headed to the bar. The bar had several empty glasses strewn about so we found a couple of free seats, Sat down and picked up the drink menu. After a reasonable time to make our selection we wanted to place our drink order. The problem was that the bartender(blonde guy with a beard)who still has not acknowledged our presence or even looked in our direction was having a conversation about golf and a special driver with another customer. I stared at the side of his face for 5 minutes with not so much as a glance in our direction. Finally after I had enough golf talk and enough of being ignored I told my wife let's get out of here. We stood up and started to leave at which point he asked how we we're doing. We left and went to a different place where it is evident they want our business. Had our drinks within 2 minutes with lots of smiles and niceness. Service is more important than the quality of you driver.

This place is delicious. The skinny Margarita is great, very simplistic and tasty. The sauces are good, the green chile is nothing to write home about though.

  • Huston O.

This place typifies the Americanized Mexican experience. Massive place that seats many so it's great for groups. The service is great but the food looks better than it is. Nothing especially wrong with it, but if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this isn't the place. I had a burrito that I felt I could've gotten anywhere. Biggest complaint was that the peppers weren't thoroughly cooked. The Guacamole and the different salsas were on point.

So here's the thing: the food is delicious. The problem is, they cut corners in really unfortunate ways. My mom and I have been ordering takeout from Hacienda--almost weekly-- for years (gotta have dinner for The Bachelor tv watch parties). Obviously, we notice when they change their practices. We have always ordered chicken and/or steak fajitas. Now, when you order takeout fajitas, they give you 4 tiny tortillas which are very obviously smaller and fewer in quantity than they ever have given us before. I can fit literally 1 piece of meat in the tortilla (I will attach a photo). I don't know if they just do this to takeout customers because they won't know until they get home... It is so unfortunate. This is not the first time that we have felt ripped off. Takeout customers: make sure you are satisfied with the product before you leave!

I go back and forth on this place. To be fair, it's usually several years between my visits so they're probably going through changes between each of my experiences. Most recently, I went I for some sangria and the queso I remember as being amazing (you know I love queso more than just about anything). I also had a mean craving for those homemade tortillas you can buy for $0.25 a piece. The sangria was good but seemed a little weak, especially for the price. The queso was really spectacular, as always (I got the spicy jack). The tortillas were...not the same. Still good, still warm...I'm not even sure I can put my finger on what was awry...they just weren't...amazing like they used to be. To be fair, they may have done that so people like me would stop going in there, camping out all day, and ending up with a $5 tab for 20 tortillas and nothing else. (For real, they were THAT good) The service was eh-ok-ish when they were busy and improved drastically as the crowd thinned out, as others have mentioned. That's usually my experience at Hacienda. To sum up, still solidly good mountain Mex. I will definitely be back, but probably not this year.

The service was excellent, nothing went wrong and the manager was right about the Baja tacos. Meals were exquisite, and were coming back...

    (5)
  • Mikala M.

This place is a good choice for the area. I would rather go to 3 margaritas over this Mexican restaurant as I feel that their food is a little sub par. The service is just OK... On that note the queso is excellent and they have a good happy hour and their sangria is pretty good too!

    (2)
  • Al R.

Happy hour prices are great but the food is just ok. Nachos were good but the chips they served me two bowls of prior to ordering along with salsa and my beer were fresher. The seasoned beef seemed "sweet" (like a tomato gravy) versus the savory punch I expected for nachos. Overall if you have a hankering for a quesadilla or nachos I would venture back.

Love the fajitas and other food here is always tasty and fresh! Ben our waiter tonight was great and on top of everything. I definitely recommend this restaurant

  • Ryan T.

Really gone downhill in the past couple of years. Food no longer tastes the same, we have been customers for over 10 years and find ourselves rarely returning for overpriced TeX Mex. There is a review saying you will get better service at Chikfila. True story. Every visit is a reminder why we found better places with a more appropriate price point and excellent wait staff.

  • Ed R.

EXCELLENT....First time here. It was recommended by the Marriott desk clerk. I was impressed by the food and the drinks. Austin was the bartender and he was one of the best bartenders/servers I have encountered in my travels. I will be back whenever I am in Denver. GREAT CHOICE!!!!

    (5)
  • JL S.

Love this place. Servers are knowledgeable and efficient. Good always delicious. We often get chicken fajitas for 1 and share it. Plenty of food!. Lana at the bar is great.

  • Victor B.

I'm going to keep this review relatively short as we dined here for a quick lunch and there wasn't anything particularly stand out to report. Hacienda has safe Mexican food options and not bad flavor for being a "chain" restaurant. On this particular day my only complaint would be that my food (lunch combo plate with cheese enchilada and shredded beef taco) was a bit too salty which was a shame because the green chili was fairly flavorful and should have been allowed to stand a little bit more on its own and not have the salt over power things. Hacienda is good in a pinch but wouldn't be a first choice for special dining events.

    (3)
  • Meghan D.

Best fajitas I have EVER HAD! Take out as you get a lot of food and service has gone downhill a bit.

    (5)
  • Patt F.

If you're going to send servers solo to the floor please make sure they know the menu. DUH. How many margaritas are on the menu? The server should know the differences or you should quit bragging about how awesome your bar is.

If i could give negative stars, i totally would. We used to Come here a few times a week for almost 2 years. The last six months that we went there the quality declined drastically. We thought maybe it was just a bad or off night. When we spoke with the manager, keep in Mind we didn't eat more than three bits each, our bill was around $70. He said he couldn't do anything but out of the kidness of his heart he would give us a $20 accommodation on our next meal. And we went here for my birthday a couple years ago, and we got our dinner to go, and sadly again none of us not even our dog would eat it. So when i spoke with the manager about the experience he got frustrated and had a bit of an attitude. I let that go. I also mentioned that it looKed and tasted like it had been done in microwave (not the first time here), he said in a rude tone that that's how they cook their food! !!! I couldn't believe it. He said that he would send me somEthing. It was a $5 vOucher. None the less we never went back, VOUCHERS EXPIRED, and can not believe that he told me in the MICROWAVE!

I really love this place. I've been to Lone Tree twice and this was my first time to this one and it was just as good. Great food and drinks on the patio. It may not be true 5 star dining but

I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, it all tastes the same to me. But it's refreshing to eat at Hacienda because their food is different. It's fresh and they have healthy options which I appreciate! I had the fish tacos in lettuce cups-- yum! Andrew, who normally works at the bar was our server and I would eat at the bar next time just to have him help. There were 3 of us and and we enjoyed his service thoroughly. He's highly relatable.

Awesome food. My favorites are the spinach and mushroom quesadilla, and steak fajitas. Very tasty!

  • Joy P.

Chain restaurant atmosphere. Very large, lots of people. Service was good. Our group was late and we were already seated and our waiter was friendly and patient. Margaritas are very strong. I had the frozen mango margarita. Good value. Second margarita was even better. We had beef chimichanga, chile relleno, and the green chile tamale, all were good, better than expected. Standard Mexican-American restaurant fare. Very good for groups.

  • Audrey B.

Horrible service. Waitress complaining and being snotty about being the only waitress on duty. Like it's my problem, though she's making it that way. Been here an hour. No refills on the salsa or chips without asking. Haven't seen hide nor hair of her since placing our order. Got our food almost an hour after ordering it, which is inexcusable for a Mexican restaurant.

    (1)
  • Andrew P.

Food was awesome! But what stood out was the management. I was treated very well and got a complimentary bowl of queso! Will definatly be coming back!

    (4)
  • Dick B.

The good: the food was really pretty good. Top notch carnitas tamales and chile rellenos. Wife had the traditional tacos and said they were good. The not so good: while the wait staff was courteous, our waitress was very slow and somewhat inattentive. The ugly: the prices. I've had better Mexican food in the west Denver area for the same or lower pricing. The verdict: we may be back for happy hour or if specials are going on since the food was good. Definitely 100x better than 3 Margaritas a 1000' south of Hacienda.

When Hacienda Colorado first opened I thought it was a bit pricey compared to other Mexican food restaurants. However, my family and I enjoyed the food and ate dinner there occasionally or ordered takeout. I hadn't been to the restaurant for quite a while. A few months ago I was out shopping and decided to treat myself to lunch. I was disappointed that the lunch menu was so limited and when the food arrived, I wasn't impressed with the quality. It was mediocre. Perhaps this was an "off" day and so I will give them another chance.

  • Julie A.

Ugh. Zoe at hostess desk greeted us with nasty, abrasive horrible attitude like we were simply in her way. I realize it's busy, but your customers don't deserve that kind of welcome, especially ones that come here weekly. She got visibly upset when I politely declined her declaration (without asking me of course) that she was putting me down for being willing to sit on the patio. She needs a major attitude adjustment or the boot. Everyone usually very friendly here, hoping management addresses this.

Uber excellent-had a fab Sun afternoon lunch there. Service is the best! Def go again!

Must be about the last place in Colorado that still gives you chips & salsa gratis. And it's killer salsa! But the tequila bar is damn good too.

Hacienda is amazing. One of the only Mexican restaurants in town I can think of that doesn't give special effects in the bathroom the next morning.

  • Rob T.

In relation to other Chain Restaurants this place is really good. They do what they do well and they do it consistently and efficiently. Which is exactly what you want from a chain. It's not like this is your anniversary dinner, and if it is you are doing it wrong. The Good: The food is consistent, tasty and the menu has a decent selection of items. The Service is fantastically efficient. you may have 4 different people wait on you during your meal, but you will rarely wait for a refill. Good selection of tequilas and fresh made Margaritas! HOT SAUCES! I'm not sure why other places don't get it, but even though this isn't "Mexican" you still need a good sauce on your Burrito. This place has several to choose from, plus some accent sauces...one which is too spicy for me to eat. ((note to other "Mexican" places, you NEED to have a sauce that is too hot to eat....this infers you have a good hot sauce that is one step below! I'm sick of asking for a spicy meal and getting something my Grandmother could drink out of the bottle!)) The Bad: It's a chain It's NOT Mexican food....but they don't even advertise it as Mexican so I don't get the complaints. I love the Carnitas Burrito with Roasted Jalapeño Sauce topped with Victors Hot Sauce. The Fish/Steak Tacos are also very good. All in all you could do much, much worse for tex-mex/mountain-mex/whatever-mex.

  • Al S.

Excellent Mexican food, great tequila specials, vibe and waitstaff. Austin the bartender always takes great care of us. I highly recommend the ribs. They are out of this world.

    (5)
  • Claude C.

Not a bad bit of food honestly. Huge cups for drinks and some tasty queso to be sure. I still have my personal preferences for hole in the wall type places where the food is amazing, but not a bad place to go.

    (3)
  • DJ V.

No carne asada!? My wife and kids and I have been here a few times. The food has always been good but this last time I was really bummed to see the carne asada taken off the menu. I settled for steak tacos that were tasty but not as filling as a steak. Overall this place is good but a little over priced and with no steak on the menu now I might be coming much less.

    (3)
  • Chris L.

Very average food overall. The original fish tacos are pretty good, especially with the Victor sauce which make them above average. But I don't go here to have stellar Mexican food. I go because I can get a coin-style Margarita with top-shelf Tequila and just fresh lime juice and a very decent round of chips and salsa without having to drive downtown or put up with hipsters. The bartenders are all friendly, there's usually someone interesting to talk to while I'm sipping my Marg at the bar, and consistency is a nice thing when that's what you're looking for.

  • Jeremy C.

At the Hacienda again and had another wonderful time. Great food each time I go here. I was expecting a bit more of a line than what I had. I went with family and had a table of 6, we showed up on a weeknight at around 6pm and were seated promptly. Good prompt service and great staff.

    (4)
  • Adam J.

What I like about this place is that it's never really busy when we go there. The chips and salsa are also danged good, and they get your hopes up for a tasty meal. But then the rest of the food comes, and it's just bland. Everything is bland, and I've had a lot of stuff here (my family likes to eat here fairly often). I've had burritos, I've had salads, I've had fajitas, I've had nachos, and they are all just boring. The salads often come missing ingredients. The nachos are totally under-dressed. The fajitas are not sizzling, they lack vegetables, and the meat is woefully under-seasoned. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me if this is a "Mexican" restaurant, or a "Colorado-Mex" or whatever you want to call it. Food is food, it tastes good or it doesn't. Let's call this Mexican food for white people who don't like Mexican food.

    (2)
  • Tara D.

Poor happy hour service. Asked for no cheese and my order came with tons of cheese.

  • Laura A.

I used to love this place. Before my last visit a few days ago, I hadn't been here in over a year. I was greeted with a wait of 45 min so I headed to the bar for a margarita. Bunch of margarita choices and I should have just stayed in the bar because my drink was the only tasty thing here. Food was bland and tasteless. I don't care what kind of Mexican food other people want to call it , I just call it food that has no taste.

    (2)
  • Jill D.

I love the food at Hacienda. We mostly order it for takeout. They sometimes get small parts of our order wrong, but are apologetic and usually try to then give it for free.

    (4)
  • Lisa J.

Though it was crowded and busy during the Cinco De Mayo festivities, the staff were friendly and , accommodating. There was a long wait to get in but it took only 45 min. instead of the hour quoted. All the food was served quickly, correctly cooked, and well seasoned. The table was still dirty when we were seated, but like I said, it was a busy weekend.

  • Rach F.

Well, where to begin? We were excited to try Hacienda out because we had heard decent reviews throughout the years and finally had a chance to go. I should have read them on here first. When we walked in the host was pleasant and the place looked nice. I used the ladies room and felt a drastic temperature change as soon as I walked in. I even heard a lady in another stall comment about how cold it was in there. We ordered our drinks and they got mine wrong. After sitting for a bit our order was finally taken. Perhaps, everything went wrong because we had what seemed like 4 different servers. We got our food and it too was nothing to rave about. I asked for a flour tortilla with one of my tacos, but I got corn tortillas for all them. This mistake I will overlook as my boyfriend said his tortilla for his burrito said it tasted like it had been frozen and his food all together tasted like it had sat under the heat lamp for some time. One of my corn tortillas was soaked from the black beans, I mean bean soup that was served with my meal. My son loves beans and rice and he wouldn't even eat the refried beans served with his meal. I tasted them and sure enough they could use drastic improvement. They tasted sour and over seasoned. The customer service lacks at this restaurant and is not very genuine at all. We were really bummed that it appeared to us that all the tables surrounding us got better service than us. They also received refills on chips and salsa and their drinks. Our soda and waters were a quarter full and we did not get a refill. We felt as though it would have been a burden to them to even ask for a refill. Most restaurants automatically refill our beverages or at least ask if we want a refill when they get that low. We got our check and it took nearly 15 minutes from that time for me to get it back so I could sign it and get the heck out of there. I did leave our server (whichever one of the 4 that came to our table) a 20% tip, but we were really disappointed tonight and left the place frustrated and feeling overspent on unauthentic food that tastes bland and gross to say the least. We will not be returning to this restaurant and I hope management and the employees work on improving this place.

  • Al G.

We were here the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. We had a party of 5, and we were seated within 10 mins, and it was very crowded. It's a restaurant that caters to "American-Mexican" food. Perhaps I am a little picky because we live in San Francisco where there are 100's of Mexican restaurants. And my wife is a Mexican food fanatic. The main reason we ate here is because our hotel was right across the freeway (for convenience sake). Overall, it was ok, but nothing on the menu stands out.

This location may look older, but in my opinion, it's so much better than the one in Lone Tree. Better lunch menu, and the management is attentive and friendly.

WHERE HAS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THIS STATE GONE??? I'm going to do 2 reviews in 1. My wife and I have been coming to Hacienda for a few years now. The service has been declining in the past 6 months or so. We came in for dinner about 6 weeks ago. I ask for a booth. there is a couple booths that are still dirty and the waitress tells me it will be 10 minutes before they can get a booth cleaned.?.?.? 10 minutes to wipe down a table?? I remember when you asked for a dirty table 2 or 3 staff would rush to clean it for the customer. Not any more! Huh I Guess we have to settle for a table. We sit down and it takes over 5 Minutes for the waitress to even acknowledge us. I order a bottle of red wine. Keep in mind it is the most expensive wine on the menu. Sterling Vintners Cabernet. $32.00 a bottle if my mind serves me. The waitress comes to the table with the wine sets down the glasses, the bottle and the Wine Key/Corkscrew and says here you go. ????? What????? I'm supposed to open the wine myself I guess. So I put in a food order and as soon as she leaves we get up and leave too. Now instead of writing a bad review on here. I go old school and call the Manager. He was pleasant and the waitress had told him we left and didn't know why. So I explained. He says sorry and he will work on the training of the staff. There's no can I make it up or how can we get you back in here. I do tell him that we will be back nonetheless. So on to the review #2 Last Saturday 05-11-13 I thought what better way to test them than to bring in a group of people. We have call ahead reservations for 8 - It still takes 40 minutes to get a table after we arrive. So the call ahead reservations serve no purpose at all!!! So they put us out on the closed in patio. This time it was over 10 minutes for a waiter to come. I love the chronograph on my watch. I again order the same bottle of wine. This time he doesn't know how to open a bottle either. Where is the wine training at? If you sell bottles of wine the staff should know how to serve them correctly! He comes to the table with the bottle already open and just fills up the 2 glasses. No taste test for me. No is this bottle OK. NOTHING!! Whatever at this point!!! Our Waiter was around only a hand full of times. Not good service by any means... The food is good. A bit on the pricey side for the quality. But when the service is lacking so much I have no reason to give my $$$ to Hacienda Colorado... Oh yeah and they close @ 10:00 PM. on Saturday night!!! So don't plan on having any fun there on the weekends.

Wish I could speak to the quality of the margarita but I only ever make it here for lunch on work days. Most places have a pretty fast paced lunch to get people in and out on their lunch hour but here seems a bit slow. However, the food is good and the staff has been friendly.

Food here is pretty good. Menu changes a lot, but some of the classic favorites seem to remain. Get there plenty of time before closing as they start clean up as soon as they slow down. Otherwise all you will hear is tables and chairs loudly scooting around on the tile floors and they will sweep around your feet.

We used to come here all the time back in the day... before they went straight downhill. Up until about 5-6 years ago, Hacienda Colorado was one of my favorite places to eat, not just for Mexican food. Their food was THAT good. Now? They have made an obvious sacrifice to quality for profit. Yes yes yes, it's nice to make a good profit in a business (that's the point right), but once you start charging me $1.00 for a tablespoon of sour cream that anywhere else would come with my fajitas, you've lost it. Bland food that tastes like it was made the previous evening at close to re-heat under some red lights to save time and money, staff that is either so overly cheery and sugary sweet I'm going to get diabetes or so off-putting I would have thought I slapped their child. Whatever, there are a dozen much better Mexican food places within 3 miles.

Still good, but I have to withdraw my recommendation of the Chopped Salad. It seems they're using bagged lettuce these days and it's not as good as it used to be. Or maybe they were always using bagged lettuce but went to a cheaper brand. Anyway, it's still a good joint but I order the fish tacos these days. Yum!

I love the tacos here. The steak are my favorite and great in fajitas, too. The fiancée is obsessed with the applewood smoked carnitas. Salsa and chips are pretty good. Everything else is just ok. The one in the Lone Tree area is better and a bit fancier.

Expensive for mexican, but that's Hacienda's thing. We love Lana and Austin in the bar and primarily go during happy hour. We have noticed in the restaurant that the service has slipped a lot over the past 6 months. Food quality has been excellent but has also slipped a bit. Huge fan of the 'twist' 1/2 frozen sangria & 1/2 frozen margarita and the Chicken Quesadilla (why did I capitalize it?). In the suburbs they're not open very late. There's a group of nice older guys that go very often and sit in the bar too. With Lana and Austin I can go in bicycle gear or a suit and its always great service.

Not your typical Mexican food and that is what we like. It's like Mexican food with a twist. I always seem to get the POBLANO DE POLLO (roasted poblano pepper stuffed with chicken). So good! Try it with the Verde Sauce. Yummy. Husband likes the bacon wrapped shrimp- CAMARONES BAJA. Very good. We try not to go too much so we don't get burned out. Always good!

To those who claim it's bad Mexican...that's not what Hacienda is going for. It says "Mountain Mex" for a reason..it's their twist on Mexican. I love how fresh everything is...everyone at the original SW Littleton location is always great..love the chips and salsa, the guac, the MARGARITAS. Glad they brought the original 'smoky' beans to all locations. I'm not even sure how overpriced it is..$13 for an entree that you leave STUFFED on? I do order a la carte now mostly because I don't need to be eating all that food.

Everything here is OK...just not great. Highlights are the chips & salsa and the Poblano de Pollo. It's a roasted poblano pepper stuffed with chicken accompanied by a chile relleno. Most dishes are +$11. Beers are all +$6 and Margs are +$10 and waaaay too sweet. I mostly come here because my girlfriend LOVES it. What does she get? A plain bean and cheese burrito. $8.95. Yes basically a Little Juan's burrito with a side of rice. She likes it because it's clean and commercial feeling, whereas I tend to relate how much I'm going to like a place based on how dirty the waitress' ankles are. "Mountain Mex" is certainly not Authentic Mex...or even Tex-Mex. So to hold it up against other Mexican joints around town isn't exactly fair. But my money is better spent at any of the other 1000's of Mexican food establishments in the Denver area.

It's really not as bad as some make it out to be. Where I'm from, there is such a thing as "tex-mex," which is a white person version of south texas style mexican food. Well, hacienda colorado is the colorado equivalent. A dumbed down version of colorado style mexican. There are smothered burritos, tacos, fajitas, etc that are twice as expensive and half as flavorful as what is found in and around the metro area. They do a couple of things really well: 1. The tortillas are homemade, and really are fantastic. Almost as good as the ones I make at home. 2. Margs: best I've had anywhere. Depends on the bartender of course, but a few times I've had a really stellar house frozen marg here. 3. The atmosphere is good if you like that big, non-threatening chain feel. 4. The sauces: the roasted jalepeno sauce is pretty good! A couple of the others are good, too if you just want to add a slight kick. We live right around the corner from here, and we go about once a year or so. I'd never go out of my way for it, but overall not bad. Much better than olive garden. PS TO THOSE IN THE SW LITTLETON AREA: The best mexican on this side of town is Hacienda Real on Bowles just west of wadsworth. It's in the strip mall where the "ballys" is. Family owned and operated very tiny place with great food, friendly service.

Hacienda is the best Mexican restaurant you can go to in Colorado. They serve great food, nicely cooked food, and give appetizers. Haciendas great food is to me a five star rating! Their food is great because they cook nicely and carefully. My favorite meal is two enchiladas with red sauce and french fries. Their food is great for anyone! They are a very popular restaurant. Hacienda nicely cook their meals because they don't rush and take their time. Your food never comes out too cold when it needs to be hot. Their cooks are very good. Appetizers are good for restaurants. Hacienda gives tortilla chips with salsa. The salsa can be a little hot and spicy. Some people like salsa others don't. They serve appetizers because you won't be starving when your meal is cooking. Hacienda is my favorite place to go. Hispanic food is my favorite. For dessert they serve cookies, cakes, and other sweet foods. Hacienda is the best, I recommend it, you should go. THANK YOU! ( :

I agree that this chain is overpriced faux mexican food. However, when I crave bacon wrapped shrimp with jalapeno down the middle, I do like this place. The chips and salsa are good and the staff has always been top notch. The tequila selection is hard to beat, too! But again, this is NOT mexican food.

In my opinion, the BEST Mexican food in Denver. The tea comes in glasses big enough to satisfy my thirst, the atmosphere is intimate and candle lit, the flour tortillas taste like my Grandma used to make; they are homemade right there in the building and are best served with a touch of butter. The steak fajitas are to die for and literally melt in your mouth. I can eat the steak alone they are so good. The service has always been great and I like the way they date the to-go boxes for you. The black beans are seasoned just right and the refried beans have a hint taste of fire-roasting. The guacamole is always fresh and goes great with the salsa. The chips are served warm and their desserts are large enough to share or take home for later. You can't do wrong going to Hacienda. Just a word of warning though, this place is addictive. They can get busy on a Friday or Saturday night, so call ahead for seating.

This is not your cheap slap together cuisine. This is consistently high quality food time and time again. Hands down the best quality Mexican food I have experienced in Denver. I enjoy the quiet & intimate atmosphere and always welcome their warm chips and zesty salsa. I have eaten here at least 25 times and am always appreciative of the friendly service and great cuisine. I have eaten at 2 of their other locations (Park Meadows & Colorado / I25) and had the same results.

A Mexican Olive Garden. Frozen sangria?? You gotta be kidding me. Explained the manager, "People return it when we serve it on the rocks." Here's a clue, dude, so listen up: MAYBE YOU'RE MAKING IT WRONG. Bad tacos, doesn't matter what's in 'em. Bad nachos, doesn't matter what's on 'em. I feel for the people of Littleton...I really do.

    (1)
  • Scott C.

Nothing to write home to mom about. Slightly worse than On The Border and that's not much better. Sangria wasn't great. Fajitas had no taste. Service was better than food. Good thing it was a work dinner and it wasn't out of my pocket.

This is not traditional Mexican food! Please only review if you can accept that fact. The Applewood Carnitas Tacos are too die for and can be very spciy if you add all of the toppings. Chili Rellenos are also delicious. Drinks come in large glasses which is always a plus if you are thirsty. I also really like the atmosphere here. Fish tacos are also very good. I hate their black beans and think they taste like soap so instead always order pinto beans which are yummy and have a touch of bacon flavor. Yum! Can't wait to enjoy dinner here again....Hopefully soon.

Tasteless, overpriced faux Mexican food. This is NOT the real thing. This is an Anglo-bland version of food that should be flavorful. And it's WAY overpriced.

This has got to be one of the best Mexican style restaurants in the country. They have the "Tex-Mex" beat down totally. The food is always fresh, the selection is excellent and they add new items regularly. They have a Gluten-free menu for those who need it. And the staff is always outstanding!

    (5)
  • Karen G.

This is Americanized Mexican food. So if you're looking for Sonoran or some other traditional form....its not here. However, once beyond that you simply experiment with what matches your taste. You have to match the food to your own palate, I love the Camarones Baja Ambience is exactly what you would expect in an americanized specialty restaurant. Nothing special, service is solid, in and out, keep you drinking or eating. Finally, They also offer a Gluten Free menu...a major bonus. Been there several times with co-workers and family and never a complaint.

The food is really weak here. This is gringo-mex if I have ever had it. Their spiciest sauce is a serrano chili blend, but even it was fairly tame. Interestingly, you cannot order a side of fried serranos, only fried jalapenos, which seems to imply that their precious sauce is pre-fab. You can get a tastier barbacoa burrito at Chipotle. Another annoyance is the waiters wearing earpieces that they often have to remove to pay attention to what you're saying. Margaritas are good, but fairly expensive. Don't waste your time going if you're looking for *good* mexican food.

Excellent food for the white people who cannot handle real mexican food, everything has been made bland and tastes like it comes out of a bag. I prefer REAL mexican food that leaves you wanting more. and what the heck is that bean soup they served with my tacos al carbon? Taco Bell here I come!

Went to hacienda on Friday with a large group. It was the first time there in a while and the decor is beautiful, service was great and the food was good but not exactly authentic. I would give it four stars if it wasn't a chain. The house marg was just okay, nothing special and the green chili could be a bit more spicy.

They call their style of Mexican "Mountain Mex" I call it bland garbage. We are lucky in Denver to live in a city with some of the best Mexican in the country. Frankly there are really only 5-6 states that could claim that status anyway, but STILL - Colorado is up there. That being said, why would you come here unless you had an aversion to any sort of authenticity in your mexican food? The ONLY bonus is that their tortillas are fresh and made in house. The sauces are bland, and it's not possible to order your food hot - WHAT? It's MEXICAN food. They said that most of their customers don't like their food spicy though. They told me that they could bring me a side of jalapenos if I liked. Uh, no thanks. I'll take my check. It's better than Casa Bonita. If you want good Mexican, head to Tacos Patzcauros. PLEASE.

Wow, really surprised by the bad reviews here. I used to live in Texas and learned to love TexMex. Searched CO for years for good Mexican and didn't find it until Hacienda opened up. I'll admit, it has gone down hill a bit of late, took my favorite dish off the menu even, but the fresh tortillas and chips cannot be beat.

We lived in Houston for a few years, and this is world's away from Tex-Mex. I like it because it is fresh, but I can see why other reviewers don't consider it Mexican. When will Rick Bayless open a restaurant in Denver? We live in 80123 where practically everything is a chain, and this is one of the better ones. Love the margaritas, the warm chips, great salsa. If you have been to one of these restaurants, you know your servers work as a team, but service lately seems to have regressed. Nothing terrible though. As always, because I think it is ridculous to wait for a table at a chain, we always go off-peak, which I highly recommend. Chop salad is a meal unto itself - love the pepitas.

Been coming here for years. Always have family celebrations here. Food has been consistent. Staff turn over seems to be a real problem so the service over the years has been lack-luster. Over the years have tried pretty much everything on the menu. Our favorites are the bacon wrapped shrimp the fish/shrimp tacos, any burrito . Restaurant definitely has it's own flavor, meaning no place tastes quite like it.

Delicious! I usually go here with the ladies from my work and it's very consistent. Wonderful chips and salsa, chimichongas, and their "swirl" margaritas. Service has always been great as well, even when we have very large groups.

Their food isn't too bad. Its a little pricey but I go there from time to time. However their commercials make me vomit as soon as they start singing. Their commercials are enough to make me keep on driving to some place else just because of the bad memories.

We had a gift certificate worth $25 that expired soon so we took a chance. The chips and salsa were excellent. The server was good. The food, however, was just so-so. I got the Patron's Platter and my wife had some type of chicken platter with rice and beans. The chicken tasted good but there wasn't enough there to justify the $12 price. The Patron's Platter came with rice, beans (in a small cup), two enchiladas, and queso. The rice was no better than what I could make at home from a box. The cheese enchiladas tasted more of corn than cheese. The beans were good but just didn't have enough there to satisfy. Had we not had the coupon, the meal would have cost us $33. I cannot say how much of a disappointment this was. We usually eat Mexican closer to home at a small place here in North Golden (Los Marcelos) and have never been disappointment there. Hacienda Colorado is a great example of overpriced, mediocre food. I will say that the chips and salsa were without a doubt the best part of the meal.

Yawn. If nothing else is availble I'll go here. Its tasty but is such a "canned" experience. The food is good but too predictable. This place is like a chain in all the bad ways. All of them look the same, the food is the same, there is no adventure. Go here if you must but there are better places.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
