Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best tacos in Denver hands down!!! The steak and pork are SO SO good!! I always get the green salsa. Get the tacos with everything cilantro, onion then add the green salsa and spritz of lime OMG!! The pork tacos have pineapple chunks cooked in them, just the right spice and citrus, great depth of flavor. The corn tortillas are really nice. They taste homemade, but not sure about that. They have a nice fine texture. I know there is another one on Alameda and Yale, I haven't tried that one, but it's supposed to be just as good. Oh yeah and did I mention they are only $0.99 per tacos, OH YEAH!!!

I've been to two locations of Taqueria El Gallito and have enjoyed both locations. The food is delicious and quite affordable. THe service is quick and friendly. You can get tacos on fresh corn tortillas for 99¢. They offer a variety of meats for their menu items. I ordered the al pastor taco and a guacamole tostada, both of which were delicious. Top your food with any of their fresh salsas from their salsa bar and you have a great meal.

tacos are good but so small (about 3 inches) its ridiculous even for 99 cents I'd have to eat 10 to get full. Really grungy feeling place. Dont know why people think 99 cents for a tiny taco is a good deal.

.99 cent tacos- yes it got my attention too! This place is an old Taco Bell made into an authentic taqueria!! Their menu does have quite a wide selection of typical Mexican fare Burritos, Tacos, Breakfast items and Tortas all with some good looking pictures for those of you more visually stimulated. Food= top quality served no frills style on styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. Also worth mentioning is the little salsa bar area with a tasty selection of fresh salsas, pickles veggies and plenty cilantro for topping off whatever your selection. I've been here a couple times and will definitely pop back in whenever the midday taco urge strikes- you should too!

Love this place yes its a little dilapidated but I come here for the food and the tacos are delicious. Bring your own drink if you dont want to pay 3$ for a half liter mexican coke.

Nasty place. Went to get two tacos, they use they're bare hands to garnish tacos, i watched the lady scrap the left over garnishes with a nasty towel in her hand and chuck it back in the cooler where she was grabbing my garnishes. Lady asked me what kind of salsa I said red. Well she chucked a bag of the most foul pastor I've ever tasted at me and forgot to give me salsa she just asked me what kind. I kindly waited for her to notice me 3 minutes later she comes to me confused, I said "uh the salsa", her " oh yeah sorry" the salsa bucket was near her knees by the mop bucket, she bent down to fill me up two containers of disgusting salsa. Paid $5.28 for two tacos and some dried side of rice. Grossest place I've ever been period. Stay away!! Tacos junior was closed or I would of went to them. Nasty nasty place, go here if u want to be sick. GROSS!!!!!!!!

First time at El Gallito and I tried a selection of the .99 tacos that everyone else has mentioned -- pollo, asada and al pastor. Wonderful, warm little corn tortillas filled with a generous helping of meat, complimented by a sprinkling of onion and cilantro. Exactly the way a street taco should be... delicious! And I feel compelled to address a comment I noticed in another review -- "if you want cheap food, you're better off going to Taco Bell...", I absolutely concur. However, if you're interested in GOOD food (that also happens to be inexpensive), then you're at the right place!

I thought it was delicious, took a little bit to get the food because some of the staff had stepped outside but tacos were authentic and price was good!! Can be compared to California flavor!

The 99 cent taco may be tasty, but I wouldn't know. I over paid for a smothered chicken burrito. The chili was tangy and not in a good way, almost like it was matlic . 5.99 was a little steep for crap. The place being clean is the highlight of this review. Although I have another low light. The tv sitting on the counter blairing with a mexican soap opera. The women taking my order seemed to be paying more attention to that then her job. She actually called me back to the counter to get my dine in order. Maybe it was the steamy part of the show. If you want cheap food your better off going to taco bell.

I found three chicken bones in my meal; two in my gordita and one in my taco. This was despite the food tasting bad. My wife couldn't even finish her food, either. Needless to say, I did not finish my meal and will never go back.

Yes, looks like a taco bell. seats like taco bell, but this isnt taco bell. the food is wonderful. they have alot of different salsas to choose from. a salsa bar. its not a hole in the wall, i'd say its a bit above that. the 5 stars is simply for the food. i've enjoyed every entre they make. the asada tacos - are a dollar, thats a steal. walk in, enjoy the spanish soap operas they have on the tv, and dig in. they have a drive thru as well.

This is an old Taco Bell and they didn't do anything to hide that fact. I wouldn't bring my kids to eat inside (it's pretty dirty) but I would with myself or my boyfriend. Once you eat here, you won't care. The tacos were great. We chose asada, pollo and the grilled pork. 99 cents each. They are very small but are packed with goodness. If you want salsa or spicy, you can fill containers on your own with salsa, lime and other additions. My favorite item was the cheese quesadilla. It was the cheese they used I'm sure that won me over. It's so good that it doesn't matter how full you are, you will always have room for it. I had ordered a coke while I waited and it came in a thick glass bottle. Hecho en Mexico! Loved it. If you are looking for inexpensive but authentic Mexican food, this is the place to go! It looks like a husband and wife run it and work there together..

Loving the tacos and gorditas!

Dirty tables, lost my order, below average food. Not recommended.

.99 cent tacos. I like to order the steak tacos. These are very simple tacos with steak, cilantro and onions. They whip them up on the grill and serve them hot. This isn't a fancy place but the tacos are very good. Sure they make your breath taste like onion but boy are they tasty. Look for the bright paint on the exterior and the little rooster on the sign. It's only blocks from Belmar. The price is pretty hard to beat. Give them a try if you like tacos.

One of my favorite taquerias in Denver. The birria (stewed goat) is my absolute favorite, the el pastor is nothing the pass up either. They are so cheap you can order a bunch of them and have a very good lunch very cheap! Great salsas too.

I like this place because of the .99 tacos. That is all I've ever had. Probably all I ever will. They have a little salsa bar with salsas and yummy pickled veggies and stuff. It's a great place to get cheap, quick lunch. I also think the staff is pretty nice and keeps the place clean. Bring cash if you don't plan on spending more than $5. Try the goat, it's great. :)

Best street-style tacos I've had in the Denver area, hands down. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the woman who works the counter is extremely rude.
