After moving from the east coast, I was sorely missing New York style bagels. These bagels are absolutely authentic, and the cream cheese is a delicious. I also got a latte which came out quickly and was delicious! This place is great for early morning pick me ups.

Smells like a New York bagel place and that's a compliment! I got a plain bagel with plain cream cheese, non toasted. I like to know a bagel place can make a good plain bagel without frills and I thought it was good. Good to CO. Fair would be the review if back in NJ, but since I live here I'd take a good bagel and you can get them here.

Don't come on a weekend. You'll loose an hour of your life that you'll never get back. Service painfully slow. Staff is well meaning, but slow and occupied with socializing. They show no sense of urgency with a persistent line out the door. The register staff is frantic. Bad energy, but still great bagels... if you got the time. If you give the register gal $2, you can skip the line and just get a coffee. That's worth one star. My prior review, before the decay in service quality: A diamond in the rough. Friendly staff, warm feel. No gum on the floor... so it's not completely like New York. Good bagels and lox. They have salt bagels to boot. They are very "generous" with the schmears, so don't be afraid to ask them to go light on it.

I love bagel shops, and this one is my favorite! The staff is always very friendly and helpful, the service is fast, and the bagels are very tasty! I have had the veggie sandwich a few times and it always taste so fresh, and the mustard they put on it is amazing. And they make italian sodas, which I simply cannot resist. I will continue to go back again and again.

They make an excellent BLT (hold the mayo and add avocado!) I think the staff is high half the time, but they still manage a great sandwich that isn't full of goo and extra crap to fancy it up. Very reasonable prices for quality food!

It's been a while since I've been here. No familiar faces today behind the counter. Order was wrong- I clearly said no onions but I got big purple ones! Not very well packaged either. Got a to go order. The bagel fell apart and rolled out of the paper wrapping thing and leaked through the paper bag- nice! Maybe I won't be back for a while again.

OK, first off, I am NOT from New York, it looks from other reviews like that is some kind of requirement for a good review for this place. While I will grant you that New York is in the name, this place is in my home town Denver, CO. So I am going to give this place a rating based on other restaurants and hangouts in THIS area, since I feel like that might actually be a helpful review for someone who might be checking this place out. I am working on my masters right now so I am always looking for a place where I can go hang out for a long time, get some coffee and some food and just sit and read or study or whatever. This is BY FAR the best place I have found for this. the environment here is relaxed, which is great when you are trying to read, not a ton of road distraction because it is set back enough from the road to block out noise, and while they clearly stay busy, the seating is arranged great so you can be right in the middle of the action and still not feel like you are being pressed. Also, I love the coffee (and that is saying something coming from an almost exclusive drinker of black coffee). They have a great selection of drips and with the lovely mug they give me I can refill as long as I hang out. This is a big deal to me, I really hate going and sitting at Starbucks so anything I can find as a good alternative to that is something to get excited about! As for the food, I did not come here for the food, I am not a person who goes out searching for bagel places, but dang, I have to tell you, I love eating here. I have had breakfast and lunch multiple times and I have yet to find anything I do not like. The Bagel Sandwiches are delicious, Bagels and Cream is fantastic, their salads are surprisingly awesome, and even their wraps are done very well! I really can't say enough about how much I enjoy this place, The food, the coffee and the environment all combine to make this my new favorite study spot in Denver! Give it a try, you will not regret it!

The bagel is good, but I'm from Miami and New York... Admittedly a little "hard to please." Their Onion n' Chive cheese is just that: Red Onion AND Scallions. Obviously made in house. Score! The bagels are definitely much larger than I'm used to. I got a plain bagel with onion and chive cheese, and it was GIGANTIC. More than twice what I could eat. I scraped a good portion of the cream cheese off the half I *did* eat, and still had the entire other half leftover. Don't know what I'd do with that if I hadn't been going to work. (Needless to say, it disappeared pretty quickly there.) I could see myself grabbing the occasional take-out, on-the-go Bagel from here, but not making it a regular spot.

This place is the absolute best! My favorite part of coming here is the warm welcome you get and their bagels are amazing. I've been coming here a lot and now simply asking them for a random bagel their creativity of their own personal creations is beyond anything.

We've come here a few times now. It's right around the corner from our house. The staff is young, hilarious, and friendly, and the bagels are good. I can't say they're actually New York Style (they don't seem to be boiled...) but they're good. I'll continue eating them. There's seats if you want to sit, a door if you want to leave, and lots more to eat other than bagels (but I ignore the menu since I always get a bagel). Go forth and enjoy!

I've been looking for an authentic east coast bagel place in the Denver area for a while and I have finally found one! If you're looking for a good crunch with just enough dense chewy dough on the inside this is your place. I always go in with an open mind about selection, but without exception I expect salt bagels. They are quintessentially New York bagels for me. NYB delivered on my salt bagel pretensions and I'm all the more happy to give them five stars because of it. On top of the fantastic quality of the bagels themselves, this shop can make a mean cappuccino! If your sick of the high sugar, burnt bean taste of Starbucks you can find amazing fresh coffee and espresso here.

  • Scott B.

Just adding that I finally tried a cup of drip coffee, their own eponymous blend, and was pleasantly surprised to find it quite good. I may have pulled my cup towards the end of a batch (based on the dispensed pressure and overall flavor), but somehow it managed to not necessarily *taste* old (not stale or watery.) I also appreciate that it seems to have a caffeine content low enough to avoid feeling jittery or other undesirable side effects but enough of the kick you look for. And a couple bucks for 16 oz is reasonable. Of course it's not up to french-pressed mug of fresh ground Jamaican Blue but it was better than anything I've tried from Charbucks (having tried at least 2 cups of each of the 3 commonly available blends, each on different occasions.) I look forward to trying a known freshly-brewed cup in the future.

I did a review a little over a year ago with positive comments, well it seems that within the last few months the quality has gone downhill. Lately I've been getting incorrect orders, and have had to return and have a re-do. The bagels come with a very, very thin smear of cream cheese. I'm not asking for the entire container of cheese but a couple of tablespoons on a bagel? The consistency of pricing is a bit shady too. Depending on which teenager you get depends on the price. Overall, I have been going here since the place was built, but no more. Quality is horrible.

Best bagels ever! I refuse to eat any other kind of bagel because nothing compares to a NYB bagel! You can customize your bagel any way you want and the staff is always accommodating. Ernie, the owner, is a great guy and extremely friendly. And yes, the bagels are boiled - making it a true "New York" style bagel. Love this place!

I have eaten at the New York Bagel Cafe frequently since my office relocated to the area in January. The bagels are good and more authentic than what you would get a Starbucks or most breakfast places in Colorado. If not ordering a bagel with cream cheese, I always order the hot pastrami sandwich called the "Brooklyn". It is a great sandwich and I find myself craving it! For toppings and condiments I get the works: onion, tomato. lettuce, spicy mustard, and mayo. While there is some inconsistency with the sandwich, depending upon who makes it, such as how much meat is used and whether mayo gets put on the sandwich or not, it never disappoints. One aspect of this place that could be improved is regarding the staff. Everyone is friendly and I have never received a wrong order or had an issue with my food. However on several occasions, when the place isn't busy, none of the tables are cleaned off and the staff is just kind of hanging out and talking, I usually have to wipe off the table myself to eat. It also kind of bothers me that everyone seems to wear pj's and workout clothes. I understand and appreciate the relaxed environment but it is off-putting to see people in pj's making your food and is not acceptable in the food service industry. I would have no complaints about a pair of jeans or shorts and a t-shirt. To be fair, I was in last week and everyone was dressed appropriately and the owner was wiping down tables. Overall a great place to grab lunch or breakfast, one of my favorites in the area!

  • Kyler R.

The bagel was way to hard and chewy but overall a nice environment and a great breakfast spot. It definitely wasn't worth the 17 dollars I spent but it was alright if your looking for a good breakfast bagel.

I ordered lox and bagel on a toasted everything bagel. I first the base is the bagel. Looking at the bagels in the case I could tell they weren't right.. They were small, thin with a giant gaping hole. They also looked like the texture of the raw dough baked in. This tells me that the didn't not "proof" or let the dough rise. If they had the bagels would have swelled and gotten a bit airy inside. The hole in center would have been smaller. I'm also not sure if they had been boiled because they had no sheen or crispness on the outside. The only had a very dense chewyness. I hate saying it but Einstein has a better so called bagel and they are not a true bagel. Based on the reviews is why I came and maybe it was a bad batch. I guess maybe I a spoiled by the Bagels Hole in my beloved Brooklyn. I also find myself dumbfounded that I will complain about too much lox on it... But it was loaded with enough for 2 to 3 bagels. The whole staff was very young. And when I mean young I thought I should be checking their id to see if they are old enough to legally work. That said one young man made a fantastic cappuccino.

This place is awesome. Great bagels. People who complain or nit-pick about this place have other issues that impact their ability to be objective.

I don't get it. We've been to this place several times since it's close by, but it seems like the only thing they can get right is a bagel with cream cheese. My partner once got a breakfast sandwich that he wasn't crazy about. Recently, we showed up later in the day and tried two lunch sandwiches: the Brooklyn Bomber and the 5th Avenue. The Brooklyn Bomber had no sauce on the top bagel and, therefore, was really dry and lacking in flavor. Also, I was disappointed that the pastrami wasn't thinly-sliced, which, I think, also leads to a lack of flavor. The turkey on the 5th Avenue was so GAMEY -- gross! I don't know how my partner managed to eat all of it. Also, about the service: every time we've been there, we've never seen someone working there over the age of 20. All of them are teenagers, and most are surly and unsmiling, wearing PAJAMAS and workout clothes. When we visited this last time, it was incredible how many were standing around, doing absolutely nothing, while their customers were scraping crumbs off of vacant tables in order to sit down. Also incredible: how a couple of the staff members came and ate their own meals near us while we were there. Kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you see one of the teenagers that just prepared your sandwich eating a salad right out of a silver mixing bowl five feet away, like he's eating cereal at his parents' house.

Bagels are really good, but the service is weird and the coffee is terrible. They were unable to make a small latte, just got a weak medium. And got our bagel order wrong.

  • Kaytlyn R.

Reasonably priced, right off Wadsworth. I really like this cafe, fast line, delicious food and family atmosphere. They had specialty cream cheese yum, and bagel egg combo options that appeased my man. I tried their espresso and was pleased.

  • Lily S.

Who would've thought such a cute cafe is tucked inside a tiny strip mall? Now I haven't really tasted New York bagels so I can only compare their bagels with chains like Einstein's or Brueggers. Texture wise, definitely more like Brueggers where the bread is denser and not as chewy. I've only been here twice and the Parmesan bagel always sounded great. Next up on my list to try is the French Toast bagel but I do wish there wasn't as much visible sugar on top... Anyway, got nothing to complain about the bagels; the cream cheese, on the other hand, is not as good as Einstein's. I absolutely adore the whipped cream cheese, so even though NY Bagel Cafe mixes their own cream cheese flavors, it still tastes more like plain cream cheese. Take the veggie cream cheese, yes there are large bits of veggies visible in the spread, but it doesn't make it taste like an integrated veggie cream cheese if you know what I mean! I know I'm getting picky here, maybe I should come back and try something else besides bagel and cream cheese. Until that happens, I'd give them 3.5 stars.

Delicious, chewy, tasty bagels. Fast and friendly service. This place has all the necessities; bagels & cream cheese, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, espresso, cinnamon rolls, Elementary school art work on display. What more could you want?

I'm from NY and moved to CO 5 years ago. Needless to say I am a snob when it comes to Bagels, sandwiches, Chinese food and pizza. My first experience here was good though the bagels were spongy, even though I got mine toasted. The toppings (everything bagel) and cream cheese (scallion) were spot on. I can say its the best bagel I've had in CO. I'm also going to go back and try their lunch sandwiches. The fact that I'm going back is enough to recommend this place to my friends. I agree with some other comments about the lack of options in the deli case, lox, whitefish etc.. but that's expected. Someone also commented on the fact that they used refrigerated eggs and nuked them for egg sandwiches. I worked in a deli in NY when I was a kid in high school and that's actually common and safe, otherwise there would be a never ending line of people waiting for their to go order breakfast to be cooked. There's also a lot of comments on the young staff. IMO, who cares about sleepy kids behind the counter. Is not like its rocket science, they put a sandwich together and take your money. It's not a five star restaurant, get over it.

  • Q. T.

I'm only giving this place one star strictly because of the good bagels. This place is overpriced ! I was a frequent customer and I stopped going because of the frequent price increases for no reason. Coming from a Deli background I am very familiar with food costs. The owner seems to use this excuse frequently but to me it's a tactic to line his pockets. They won't be getting my $6 every other day . A note to the owners: some of us are a little bit smarter and can figure things out pretty quickly. To date the cost to make a bagel is .19cents!

    (1)
  • K G.

I've had the champs bagel sandwich everytime I go there and it's around 6$ for microwaved mystery egg and a few skinny pieces of sausage and bacon. Besides that, the bagel itself is great. Great place to get bagels.

    (4)
  • Scott S.

This is a nice little neighborhood bagel shop. The staff appears heavily teenage and service speed is varied. Many of the employees looked like sleepy teens and the cashier had terrible customer service skills, or should I say a lack of skills. The bagels are decent. I'm not a huge NY style bagel guy, but the taste was good enough. On my second visit I had a woman whom appeared in her 20s serve me. She was much better suited for the job and friendly.

    (3)
  • Amanda P.

I seriously stop by here every day for lunch and always get the Champs bagel. Breakfast bagel with 2 choices of meat between ham, sausage, and bacon. You can even double up on one choice. The pepperoni pizza bagel is pretty great too with the salt bagel.

    (5)
  • Matt V.

Best bagels around. Wish they would do things like fresh eggs and sharp cheddar, but the bagels themselves are top notch. Owner is really nice and takes pride in bagels made by only boiling in water. We're regulars.

We frequent this place all the time. Love the staff and the food. This is our go-to breakfast place.

  • Melissa H.

mmmmmm bagels ... fresh bagels. Whether they are NY bagels or not, I really am not the expert to say. Whatever they are, they are tasty, especially with some bacon or sausage. This spot is nothing over the top gourmet, but it's a solid stop for a tasty jalapeno bagel sandwich and cute little jar of Martinelli's apple cider. Great start to your morning!

    (3)
  • Melissa D.

good, LARGE, yummy New York Style bagels. I'm a fan :)

I don't care what anyone says this is THE BEST bagel sandwich place in town AND they serve breakfast all day long!!

    (5)
  • J K.

Pretty good food! I love me some bagels anyway, and they load up some goodies on them for a decent price. The staff is sometimes a little aloof, but hey, teenagers you know? They aren't terrible at their job whatsoever, just a little spacey. I can come here for a good coffee and a bagel, and just relax with the old man for a half hour or hour and enjoy myself.

    (4)
  • Shannon C.

My favorite thing about this place is the wonderful staff. They're so nice and remember your order without writing it down, all while truly enjoying their job. It's a lot of fun to go in here and order a bagel and some coffee. Last time I visited, I got the jalapeno bagel (which had just the right amount of spice) as a breakfast sandwich (wonderful with egg, bacon and cheese) and a coffee to go. It was the perfect breakfast after my long run at the park across the street.

    (4)
  • Austin K.

I eat here at least once or twice a week 1. because I love bagels 2. I live right next to it . I am from New York and can honestly say this place does it the best in Colorado. The breakfast bagels are decent and the cream cheeses are spot on. I would give 5 stars but I have to agree with some of the comments here, the service does need a little bit of improving. A little more talk from behind the counter would be appreciated, especially since I come in here so often. A "thanks for the tip!" (which I always give =D ) Would be nice. Otherwise, the name says it all "awesome!" New York Bagels!

    (4)
  • Jeff R.

The bagels were pretty good. They had basically the right texture and they were fresh. Service was decent, price was reasonable, and I got a "thank you" both before and after dropping a buck in the tip jar. So why the mediocre rating? Well, when you put "New York" and "Bagel" in your name you're setting yourself up for expectations. In my case, I saw a deli case crammed with belly and Nova lox, whitefish salad, smoked fish, etc., and a proprietor entertaining me with his schtick. The fantasy was shattered when I walked through the door and found bins of blueberry, cinnamon raisin, and whole wheat bagels. To be fair, they did have poppy seed, onion, and everything bagels, but no pumpernickel or bialys. Maybe they should have named it Colorado Bagel Cafe?

  • Marie S.

I can't speak to the authenticity of the style, but New York Bagel Cafe is head and shoulders above the rest! Every weekend morning the cozy cafe buzzes with activity from regulars enjoying their breakfast over newspapers and conversation to the new customers, gazing questioningly at the menu. My sister and I have been patronizing this location for a few years now, and even after we moved, we will drive half an hour out of our way to go there. They'll customize your bagel any way you like, and even when they're busy the person behind the counter will search through the bin to find just the right bagel on request. And if you thought they just had bagels and cream cheese, you're wrong. They carry sandwiches, breakfast breads, and muffins along with a selection of store brand coffees. In customer service and food quality they are consistent. Their bagels are more substantial than Einstein Brothers or Moe's Broadway Bagel, and as I said, better in flavor, texture, and chew. highly recommended.

Bada bing--if you want the opinion of a broad who once lived in New York, well you're lookin' at it. First da good. This place is frickin' nice. It's a cute mom-and-pop style bagel and coffee shop. Ya go in, and ya got a few workin' stiffs and a few older people sittin' at tables, readin' the paper, and just generally enjoying a leisurely morning. I like dat. They gots a nice menu, wit lotsa New York-inspired sandwiches on it, you know, like pastrami. And they gots a hell of a lotta coffee at good prices. I like dat too. But now da bad. These bagels just ain't what I was used to in the City. A good bagel's supposed to be firm on the outside, and chewy on the inside. But these? These are just mealy all the way through. If you are used to H&H Bagels (hey, you wize guys know what I'm talkin' about eh?) these things ain't bagels. If you are used to Einstein's... eh, you might like 'em. But the biggest... how do I say it... travesty? Is that how you people call it? Was the egg and cheese on a bagel! Who da f*ck uses microwaved pre-cooked egg patties on their egg and cheese? And you call yourself New York Bagels? Even in the smallest mom-and-pop in West Jersey back east, they use a proper skillet and cook you two fresh greasy eggs. That ain't right. I'm takin' off one bada and one bing for disrespectin' my Motha City. Now I don't wanna talk about this again, ya hear me? Say hi to your Motha for me.

Not part of my morning routine, but part of the mornings I am treating myself. Cozy bagel breakfast nook that appears to be a favorite with local bicyclists off the bear creek trail. Their variety of homemade bagels is amazing and perfect with egg and bacon as a sandwich or with their homemade cream cheese flavors. Seems to always staffed with local high schoolers who are pleasant and eager to help Wichita is almost unheard of these days so I applaud the owners. Try the everything bagel sandwich or/and the chai tea latte and snuggle up in a nook with your favorite person or book. Oh, and in the summer there is a bit of outdoor seating!

    (5)
  • Sarah G.

Some of the best bagels I've had in Denver! I like them more than Moe's and ten times more than Panera. Their bagels taste like the kind they make back east and the place is pretty cute. I love that they have outdoor seating!

Do NOT go here. Terrible customer service. I ordered a simple breakfast bagel to go as I had in the past. Many people who ordered after me received their breakfast. I still waited. The staff were to engaged in socializing. Still I waited. Finally, one of the staff brought a bagel that was the completely wrong order. I asked for my money back because this is now ridiculous. By the say, the staff is still socializing. I got my money back with a "here ya go". No apology, no we'll try to make this right, no care in customer service at all. I left with not intention of coming back to place who doesn't care about their customers. Very disappointing.

    (1)
  • Jamie B.

This place has fairly good bagels, it just lacks in the customer service department. The girls who work there never smile or chat, they just make the bagel. This morning when I paid, the girl who rang me up didn't even thank me for my business, or for the tip I left. That's poor. I didn't even have to leave a tip- this isn't a restaurant where the waiters make below minimum wage, and come to your table and serve you. Its just that there is a tip jar in my face while I'm paying so I feel guilty not tipping. This place is close to my work, so I really want to like it. I haven't decided if I will return.

If you have the time, go to H&H Bagels on the upper-west-side in Manhattan. If you're stuck in the Denver metro area, this is a good alternative.

As a former New Yawka, I give these bagels 4 stars. Best I've had outside of the east coast.

First, let's face the facts: finding a bagel in Denver that lives up to what people remember from back east (I'm from Chicago) is not going to happen. I haven't found a bagel here that comes close, so I have to make do with what is available. And I think the New York Bagel Cafe does a pretty good job. If a truly great east coast bagel joint opened up in Denver, sad to say I'd have to bid goodbye to NYBC. Until then, I'm happy with what they have to offer. Every year when I go back to Chicago, I get my great bagel fix.

  • Emi S.

I bought a couple breakfast sandwiches to go(ham cheese and egg). Not horrible, but I've had better. It tasted pretty good(i think mine was some sort of tomato bagel), but it was pretty hard and chewy, my boyfriend said that his bagel was softer.

What a great find in South Lakewood. Walk into this place, and with all the cool rockstar looking kids who work here, you feel like you are at a more urban place than in the middle of suburbia. The owner, or the guy who is always there with glasses taking orders, says hi to you and bye when you leave. The bagels are always fresh, and the price is great. I highly recommend NYC Bagel Cafe to anyone who is in the area!

  • Lauren D.

This place is super cute. I really like their bagels, I had a multi-grain with egg & chese. It isn't anything WoWzA spectacular but definitely worth checking out if you have a bagel craving and don't want to make it yourself. Just as an fyi - it appears to be entirely run by high schoolers, not sure what's going on there. But it's quick, cheap, yummy and adorable inside.

They have great bagels here. I love the selection and I am glad they carry salt bagels (my favorite). They are very much East Coast bagels. Any transplant from the right side of the US will surely appreciate these bagels. MUCH better than the Einstein & Brueggers that we are force fed here in CO. its a clean place that moves quickly. It seems as though the entire workforce is high school aged (or early college) which is fine with me because they still seem to do the job right. They have a good menu and offer a good selection of toppings for your bagel. Me, Im plain. Give me a salt bagel, toasted with butter (maybe strawberry jelly) and I am good. Once in a while, a plain or cinn. raisin with cream cheese. Overall, nice shop and they do what they do very well. Their bagel is #2 in town in my opinion. Second only to The Bagel Store on Monaco. They they are full service, so that evens the score. Pick one of these 2 places, depending on what side of town you happen to be on.

you like bagels, you like bagels with stuff on it, then this is your place the place is small and cute, the staff are super friendly, in fact the first time i went i ordered to breakfast bagel and when it was time to pay i noticed i did not have my wallet, the guy (with the glasses) told me no problem just stop by sometime later in the day and remind them of what i needed to pay for, out the door with the bagels i went, amazing friendly place today i asked if they could make a different bagel than what is on the menu, no problem, they whipped up a jalapeno bagel with egg, cheese and red pepper hummus for me and just charge me for the regular breakfast bagel i love this place, just wish i could afford to eat there every morning, the bagels with stuff on them range from 3-6 dollars a piece, but what do you expect when you are at a place that can serve you salmon

  • Sarah R.

I love bagles and think I have a pretty good sense of what a good bagel consists of; however I've never had a bagel in NY, so I can't attest to it's authenticity here. I really like New York Bagel Cafe! They have great flavor choices for both bagels and spreads. I have yet to sample any of their sandwiches, but always peruse the menue while I wait for my bagel and cream cheese and make a note to come back for a sandwich sometime, but haven't. Honestly, there aren't too many great bagel places around Denver and I think this place is at the top! My biggest complaint has absolutely nothing to do with the food or friendly staff and I'm sure I will come off sounding snobby, but it drives me nuts that all of the girls that work their wear sweatpants. Since when is it acceptable to leave your home wearing them (unless you are exercising)? Since when is it acceptable to not only leave your home wearing them, but go to work?! I understand they are in high school, they probably have to be at work early and it's probably a part time job, but I just don't get it. Are jeans that difficult and uncomfortable to wear?! I think it just makes the place look sloppy. I guess my tirade should be for another place and time, but I can't help but get annoyed every time I go. Anyways, I'm definitely a fan of NY Bagel Cafe!!
