Truly enjoyed my time here! Tony, the owner/chef, was waiting tables tonight and was very friendly. They have some awesome chili and their green chili lives up to all the hype I've been hearing! Not to expensive and awesome food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

I can't believe I am actually writing this review. I almost feel like I'm betraying las cazuelas, but something needs to be said. I have been coming here for about twenty years. Since I was in high school this has always been great food. Over the past couple of years the food has continued to be good but the service has diminished a bit. It's generally pretty slow service no matter what time of day you go in, but.... Tonight's visit did me in. We were charged $8.00 for queso. When I say queso I mean it was less than 3/4 a cup of at best, canned cheese!!!!! So incredibly disappointed! Please take a second look at your price gauging before you lose twenty years worth of loyalty.

Food is great. Atmosphere needs some help, but the staff is great. The salsa is just hot enough to make you sweat.

Pretty mediocre in general. I've heard several people rave about how great Las Cazuelas is the past several years, and without a fault, every single person has stopped coming here. It seems this place used to be good, at some point in the distant past, but I have never seen it. I've been here twice: once a number of years ago, and once several months back. Both times were a solid C-, 6/10 "meh" meal. The staff seems great: polite, attentive, and quick, but that is the only real positive about this place. Actually, the only reason this isn't a 1-star review. The food is just so off. In a town full of Mexican food places, with a large Hispanic population, the food they serve here is nowhere near what a proper Mexican food place should ever offer. Bland across the board, stale chips, watery salsa, crusty beans, lettuce EVERYWHERE (seriously, like half of my plate was lettuce), and just... so very high-school-cafeteria all around. No idea what any sort of big deal is; there are a dozen+ other restaurants in the area with much much better food.

Great breakfast burritos as a take out. I would never sit inside and eat though.. They need a serious makeover. The service is pretty slow so calling ahead is a good idea. I always add a few more minutes to the time they tell me too. Their food keeps me coming back though!

The only reason to give a four star is because the service can be a bit slow, with only one (very nice) server running the floor. The enchiladas are hands-down the best I've had. The homemade chips and salsa are a great precursor to the meal. We indulged with the churros and a caramel sauce for dessert, yum! My son asked if we could come back every Thursday (and get the churros). Both kids and my husband finished their plates. So good, love this place -- even if the location is a bit questionable!

Great food, great ambiance. Food came out within a few minutes. Waitress was excellent. Can't wait to go back!

SHOCKED!!!! I lived in the area of Las Cazuelas growing up and would frequent there with my family. I have returned several times when being back in the area. The place over 30 plus years hadn't changed much. The food consistent (yummy) and the decor (well it needed to change). Until last night. My husband and I were visiting friends and decided to grab dinner there. I walked in and my JAW DROPPED. Literally. To our surprise they had just completed a remodel in honor of their 40th anniversary. They said goodbye to the old carpet, wood paneling and dusty lattice. In place they put hardwood floors, a fresh coat of paint and beautiful decor. The place has a fresh new energy to it. To top it all off the food was amazing as usual. I was concerned at first that ownership had changed hands but I saw Rose and Tony in the kitchen and new we were safe. I am so happy to see that an old neighborhood restaurant is not only surviving but thriving!

Where did you go? We stopped in and saw the new decor, saw the prices had went up at least three to four dollars a plate, waited 45 minutes and had bad food. Where is the Las Cazuelas of the past! What happened to your specials. Since when does a chimmy come out mushy? What happened to the fast happy service? Sorry but after 30 some years it is a no go for me. You cleaned up the place and ruined the food. I won't be back

My father-in-law recommended this restaurant for dinner, so my husband, son and I joined him for a meal tonight. They recently remodeled and the place was very welcoming looking when we walked in, with modern furnishings and decor. We sat down and the waitress brought a water carafe and glasses over with chips and salsa. Immediately our son put his hand inside the glass and the waitress snapped at him, telling him to take his hand out since he would be drinking from the glass. Our son has autism and in general is pretty fidgety, so while he meant no harm it was a surprise to all of us that he was reprimanded from a stranger. We should have known at this moment that something was up. After my father-in-law arrived, we placed our order pretty quickly and got drinks right away. We then waited for 30 minutes for our food to come out, and we were the only table that ordered anything when we did. The two other tables occupied there were already finished with their meals. To make matters worse, a woman came in 10 minutes after we ordered and put in a huge takeout order, which was brought out of the kitchen within 10 minutes, so they put her order ahead of ours. After her order came out, our waitress informed us that they ran out of shredded beef, so my father-in-law had to substitute with ground beef. I'm guessing the takeout lady got all the shredded beef instead. Once it was our turn to eat, the waitress brought my husband and father-in-law their plates, (beef burritos with green chili) and we had to wait another 5 minutes for my plate (beef enchiladas) We then waited 10 additional minutes for my sons meal, which was a simple breakfast burrito. So we all had food that wasn't warm anymore by the time we ate, and Unfortunately, these meals had no flavor! The table salsa had more flavor than my enchiladas for sure. After we finished what we could, we got some boxes and packed up. We waited another 10 minutes for our check (go figure). Overall, our experience was poor, and although my father-in-law insisted he had never had a bad experience like this there, we won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone. We should have driven another minute on Mississippi down to Tamale Kitchen where you're guaranteed fast service and delicious, authentic Mexican food.

I hate giving bad reviews anywhere, but unfortunately this is my first one. My friend and I decided to try Las Cazuelas based on the 4 star rating on yelp. I wish I had read the reviews... this place was very disappointing. We'll start with the salsa. Salsa makes or breaks a Mexican restaurant for me. The chips and salsa here were the worst I've had at a restaurant. The chips were obviously store bought and the salsa tasted like a spicier version of puréed tomatoes from a can. My friend ordered a horchata, which the waitress had to "check to see if the machine was working" before receiving. The wait was horrendous, over 30 minutes when there were only two other tables. I got a "royal" bean burrito which meant smothered with lettuce and tomatoes. I'm not sure if cheese was included, but there was none on my burrito. As an earlier yelper commented, the green chile was extremely runny and the lettuce and tomatoes covering the burrito was way too much overkill. My friend liked that her chile relleno was very crispy. Overall, we were disappointed and will not return or recommend.

Good food as always. I wish the remodel would have included some bright colors, but it is new looking and clean. This restaurant has been around for a very long time. It is so nice to have a family owned restaurant instead of just a chain where no one knows you. We dined there last night and had great service. I do not agree with some of the reviews on here about the food. We have always enjoyed the food. The guacamole was very fresh last night. There was no excess of lettuce or stale chips and the servers are always friendly.

We're relatively new to Lakewood and don't live too far from here. We love the food. Yeah, the service is a little slow at times but they're really very nice people. I personally don't mind waiting for good hot food. Also, they're in an old building. At least 30 years old and it shows. Again, the food is good so I don't care. I'm sure everything is good but I like the green chili, the refried beans, the crunchy beef tacos and the chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas are the best I've had. Make sure you get em with the chopped onion. Anyways, the food is good and so are the people. Give it a try.

I am new to the area and I was working nearby. I love Mexican food and usually these types of places are the best. Not much to look at from the outside, but Tony and his family are the salt of the earth. Best Mexican food, best service, best people. I love it here and hope to become a regular. Highly recommend the enchilada sauce even in a dish to eat with chips. Soooooo good!!!

My number one Mexican Restaurant in the area. Great food, no frills, easy to dine in or take out. The number one reason I love this place is their Green Chili. I don't care what they put it on (Burrito / Relleno) it's great. I also like that they give you a tortilla on the side with Green Chili dishes that wouldn't otherwise have a tortilla; great to make your own little Green Chili soft taco with what is left on your plate. Nice staff make it easy to come in and grab a beer while you wait for your togo order. Not an elegant place by any means but you'll get over any reservations you have very quickly; probably as soon as you taste your meal.

I was introduced to Las Cazuelas more than 10 years ago. I have always been a huge fan of the food, so much so I have taken everyone I know to this restaurant. We are very familiar with the staff, which you would think would have been helpful. In the 10+ years I have been there the staff has: Turned down catering a large party event for my friend after they said they would ( said they would get prices and never called them back ), I have been yelled at for "bending the menu" the wrong way, refused refill on soda numerous times, given trouble about being "regular" customers and having a groupon, refused the use of a groupon because we were sitting at the bar. These were just situations that had happened- not to mention the long wait time for food and unfriendly staff we were used to dealing with on a regular basis. The kicker- the final straw- what sent us over the edge... when the food truck service opened the cook was changed out. Food is not the same!!! Chicken taco is HALF the size it was previously, cheese on all the meals was little to none, had no steak for the fajitas (which is why we even went). Why would people subject them self to horrible service, bad attitudes, and rude comments if your food is ~ok~. Well I am telling you we won't anymore!! It used to be worth it to us to deal with this place and the people for the good food. Now that the food has changed so has this "regular" customer. FYI if you don't want poeple using Groupons- how about you don't put them on groupon!!

Are these reviews fake? We waited for nearly an hour for our food, which was mediocre. The service for drinks and chips was crappy too. Not a single thing to make up for the horrible atmosphere and sticky tables. Also the place is freezing and had tv blaring the whole time. So many other hole in places near here that are awesome - this is not one of them.

New to the area and we have been hitting all the Mexican restaurants in Denver to find our favorite hang out using groupons. Our 6th Mexican restaurants in the past 8 days, and it's our least favorite. We are originally from San Antonio so finding awesome Mexican food is must. This is a local hang out. Server is really a hard worker but we did not get a decent service. We could see him smiling and chatting with locals, but we got the cold shoulder. Salsa was pretty decent with definite kick, which we liked. We had Tamale special and Fiesta Plate, both decent, but nothing to write home about. Lastly, we like the tortilla, so ordered dozen 'Homemade Tortilla' to go, yet we were disappointed to find "homemade taste" La Favorita tortillas when we got home... Not so homemade, I would have to say!

The Best Mexican in all of Colorado! Finally brought my Dad with me. Haven't ate here since '09 Super Yumtastic! I learned of this back when I was in High School over at Alameda High. Introduced my Mom to this place when she worked at Hancock Fabrics off of Alameda and Sheridan and had her employees fall in love with this place. Ever since I joined the Army back in 01' any time I was in town I would stop by. They have great personal service to each customer and the brothers are too awesome. Salsa has a little kick but in a good way, meals are definitely overloaded and love the tacos and guacamole! I'll always be a life long patron of Las Cazuelas!!

My mom has been coming here for 30+ years and me for now 24+ years. I grew up on cheese enchiladas and played jacks on the floor here! This place is fantastic. Rose/Jerry have the skills to make the best and yummiest mexican in Denver. I think I have had everything on the menu at least once and it is all delicious. When they added the full bar it became the perfect place. It's like family here and they always make sure to welcome you. There's an open kitchen which I love because you can always holler back at who ever is cooking and give them a hard time or just say hello. My favorites are the enchiladas, summer special, and the smother beef burrito. Also Kristen D. isn't quite right - Tony left to manage that restaurant he doesn't own that restaurant and from my sources it's not the same feel or taste.

Blocks away from home and the Belmar area, this restaurant has hooked me with their authentic and spicey quisine. I highly recommend the fiesta dinner plate with green chili. Their chili rellenos are not the normal frozen then fried style that you will see at most Mexican restaurants; these are real and quite tasty! Their green chili is a meal unto itself and will clear your sinuses if you have a cold. It is a family owned and operated hole-in-the-wall place that makes you feel welcome and fills your tummy with spicey goodness. They have won awards for their green chili and other menu items. Oh, the Las Cazuelas dinner will feed two people, so don't order that if you are dining alone, lol. There is a full bar next to the dining area where you can sit back with your favorite brews and relax a bit while the world goes on its merry way outside. They do take out orders as well, so if you're just wanting their amazing food in the comfort of your own home then you can definitely go that route. It's a small establishment with big meals that will leave you feeling satisfied. If there was only one thing that I would suggest this place change, it would be to upgrade their chips and salsa, but that's about it.

We will never eat at this place again. I wish we would've walked out as soon as we walked in but sadly we decided to stay and give them the benefit of the doubt. First of all the carpet was extremely dirty, the ceiling has cracks in it from water damage, there were dust bunnies everywhere I looked, tables were sticky, the silver ware looked dingy. We waited 30 minutes for our food when there was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant. Honestly after our food arrived I got really grossed out and had a hard time eating my food. The smothered burrito I ordered had some chile on it that was way too watery, the menudo tasted like it came straight out of the can. Not to mention my little boy found a small hair in his food. Phew, I think I got it all. This is by far one of the worst restaurants I've ever set foot in. DO NOT EAT HERE!

Good homemade green chili that is spicy with big chuncks of pork and bits of green chilies is better than your average chili gravy. Nice tasty and spicy salsa. Tasty moist mexican rice. Tasty refried beans and awsome guac. Dark iced tea. Great service. What else can I say? Delicious!!!... That's what I say!!!

Pretty darn good! I'm almost sure there was lard in those beans. Hence pretty darn good. Service was great a real comfort food place for mex. I can feel arteries clogging We will come back.

This place has the best Mexican food by far! It seems like people have different tastes in Mexican food but everyone I have brought here, is now addicted. This place has the BEST beans & the green chile is so flavorful w/ huge chunks of lean pork. I've tried many things on the menu- The beef & bean royale is the best here! They close early (often around 8PM).

    Love the Chile Verde soup!

  • Kara A.

This place is good and authentic. The salsa is especially yummy but really spicy! Both the fiancé and I ordered the chicken enchiladas combo. Comes with 3 enchiladas, rice, and beans. Very delicious although maybe not the BEST in Denver, like others have proclaimed. Having said that, it was still really good, cheap, and tons of food. This place has 0 atmosphere, but you shouldn't expect much for the prices you're paying. They have a churro dessert that looks really good, so next time we're in the Belmar area, I'm hoping to check that out.

  • Prudence D.

While the food here is pretty good, it's not goo enough to make up for the service. It took 40 minutes for our food to arrive when the restaurant was less than half full. The chili verde is good, the Gringo beef tacos are tasty and chalupa = tostada.

I have been going to Las Cazuelas for 25 years and I had to rebut some of the negative reviews I'm seeing here. I absolutely refute the one that says their salsa is bad, this is a family operation, it is family food and it is good. No Mexican restaurant has bagged tortilla chips, as they are incredibly easy and much cheaper for them to fry their own. Yes, I'm saying that person hasn't got a clue. Perhaps they like the chains better. They have the best Enchiladas ever, the only reason I can imagine someone saying different is because they wanted to hurt the business, a Mom defending her cub.The one saying they should have gone to Tamale Kitchen instead doesn't know what they are talking about, or they are a plant. I stopped going there years ago when I tried Tamales Moreno across the street. The difference was astounding, I didn't know how bad Tamale Kitchen was. That said, I go there for tamales, and here for all other Mexican food. We never have had bad service, the people are kind and generous. I have also never been in when they had only one table, they are always packed. I was glad to hear they hadn't changed hands, only remodeled. Way to go Las Cazuelas!

The last of a dying breed. Of businesses that are truly family owned ! This place was amazing. Food was excellent! Fresh homemade salsa and great margaritas. I will be back. Service was quick and our waitress made great suggestions as to what her favorites were. The family that treats you like family. Went back again , seems like it totally changed.. Food ok but not as good as the first time .

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
