Clean, quick, cheap, well prepared quality diner fare. $5.25 anytime steak & eggs were EXCELLENT! If I lived in Denver I'd make a habit of this place. My only qualm was the $2.50 glass of horrible 'orange drink' I was served when I asked for a glass of orange juice.

Yay! Another place to eat breakfast!...no really, I love breakfast. It's my favorite. And this place has a lot of it. They have the normal selection of burritos, omelettes, skillet meals and traditional steak and egg breakfasts, but they make them well. They also have some Greek influence because there's a lot of gyro meat and feta on some of this stuff. When you first find your way to this diner that's not really a diner, you have to park in the back lot full of pot holes or next door in front of a motel. Then, when you make your way inside you have to get past the stacked plastic chairs and other items that appear to be stored in the foyer. At this point you're wondering if you may have made a mistake in your choice of restaurant that day. But then you get inside and see that it's all okay; you're just in the latest hole in the wall type of establishment Denver has to offer. When I say hole in the wall, I mean atmosphere, not size. The place is quite large when you get inside. The service is no-nonsense and straight to the point and I don't remember there being any music. Don't expect anything fancy here, just expect good food. I had to talk my family into trying a new place; they're creatures of habit indeed. Once I got them inside and prayed to the food gods that they would not hate me for making them come here, we quickly established that this was indeed a place we will be returning. Thank you, food gods! My nephew and his friend each got a giant breakfast burrito smothered in what they said was really good green chile. My other nephew got a Denver omelette and really enjoyed it; I honestly don't think I've ever seen that kid eat that much in one sitting. And my mother got eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes. I got the Greek omelette. The hashbrowns are not shredded, they are home-style and crisped on the grill top. Very tasty though. The omelette, although a little dry, was also very good. I added a little hot sauce and that took care of the problem for me. I thought maybe they need some of the feta on the inside. Some tzatziki would've been good too. The food came out fast and hot and there was plenty for everyone. You will not go hungry here. Well, maybe my nephew with the two hollow legs might, but a normal person won't. I will be back to this new place; I want to try a lot more of their dishes...those burritos looked really good.

I LOVE BREAKFAST, I probably can't tell you how much I love breakfast. So I sure do keep an eye out for great spots. This is by FAR one of the best Breakfast spots I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Parking was a breeze on a Saturday Morning. This place is on the way to the Outlet Mall and truthfully we just stopped her because another Diner we passed was way too busy. There was 6 of us, 5 boys & one girl (me ;P) All the boys got the Steak & Eggs. They are all from Vegas so they are used to the midnight feedings at the Coast hotels (usually dry, untasteful pieces of meat but for a deal of $3.99)This deal was awesome, tasteful and worth every penny. I on the other hand ordered the Greek Skillet (I believe that's what it's called) Oh it was divine. The lamb meat, the potatoes, the feta, the sauce... I'd drive the 10 hours again just to eat this delicious skillet. All in all it was a great experience, this place gets 5 stars just for that skillet.

I'm a fan of Hits the Spot. On the surface it's like a lot of neighborhood Mom and Pop diners, at least in terms of similar menu options which include typical diner fare and some Greek and Mexican items. The inside is clean and nicer than many - fresh bright paint in red, yellow and white - 60s themed with old license plates and pictures of the great muscle cars some of us remember fondly. I've only gone for breakfast, but have gone many times and assume the experience is comparable later in the day. Wait staff are always very pleasant and attentive. It's not huge but they have plenty of seating with a counter, booths and tables, and unlike some Mom and Pop diners, they could easily accommodate a table of at least 6 for larger parties. Prices are extremely reasonable. Lots of diners do a steak and eggs breakfast special, but not all of them offer it on Saturday and Sunday, and the steak itself is a little larger and seemingly a better quality piece of meat at Hits the Spot. The steak is thick enough that it's actually possible to serve it medium rare if that's your preference. $6.50 buys you a very nice breakfast steak, hash browns, two eggs and toast seven days a week at Hits the Spot. Bottom line, for what it is, you can't beat the food quality, value or overall experience at Hits the Spot.

The first time we came here it was great. The waitress was good, food was good. Overall good experience. Came again for hubbys birthday breakfast, the food was good but this time the service SUCKED! Didn't get the same waitress, she was very rude. Don't understand how you can be rude when you work for tips. Will probably go back, but hopefully get a better waitress. My husband ordered a steak breakfast burrito, and she brought out a steak breakfast. Told her that wasn't right, and she acted like it was our fault. She was put out that she took the wrong order. Maybe take some time to listen to your customer!

stopped in for ham and eggs...great hash-browns, very friendly and efficient service, appears clean and well kept

A delicious find. We are regulars here. The service, food quality and portion sizes are excellent. Expect a wait time during peak meal times....but it's worth it. Our family favorites are any breakfast items, jalapeno cheeseburger, mexican hamburger and steak.

  • Ron K.

The service here is excellent. The food for the most part is fairly good. Except for when they get fairly busy. The the quality of the food seems to tragically slip away. Ordered eggs sunny side up. The easiest way to make eggs vand the darn yolks were mostly hard and cooked. This only happens when you don't pay attention for what ever reason.

Great divey diner on Colfax. The huevos were very hot as they should be and the wifeys cinnamon french toasts were great. We love this place

Sorry Jerry C, but I disagree. Hit's the Spot Diner's hashbrowns are the BEST thing about their breakfasts. They are always cooked to perfection and actually seasoned. These hash browns (really fried potatoes) are a dietary no-no; eating these makes me enjoy my guilt. Just like being at home, but without the work and clean up. Obviously I think Hits the Spot Diner is A-OK. It's currently tops in our breakfast rotation. Service is friendly and super fast. Food is always cooked to order, reasonably priced and tastes good. Of course I've tried their country skillet (as anyone who knows me knows country gravy is tops for me), and it's good - especially with those well-seasoned potatoes. We need to start trying lunch and/or dinner, and the star rating could well go up.

Great, classic diner fair and the you can't beat the price. I love having a local spot like this for breakfast. I know they're on Colfax, but I just wish it could be a late night place too! Regardless, it's definitely worth a stop!

    (4)
  • Nicole P.

Great place! I always leave feeling over full but totally worth it. My date always gets the smothered steak and eggs, he raves about it! I've tried a little of everything, eggs, bacon, home fries (yum yum yum! ), and pancakes. The pancakes weren't anything special, but I loved them. It's not a fancy establishment by any means, but love this place like you love your local dive bar.

    (5)
  • Doug Y.

Good greasy spoons rule! Hits the Spot hits on all the right notes. Service, food, bang for the buck, and old school atmosphere.

  • Deya Z.

This is a diner! Hubs and I have stopped by a couple of times when we're looking for a cheap, dive diner type of breakfast. This place hits the spot! The service is usually on point but beware, it can be tricky to get a table if you go during peak hours. Get there early or try it for a late breakfast. Also, don't plan on taking a group of more than 4; I'd imagine the wait is even longer than a a table of 2!

    (4)
  • Angelica M.

The server was super nice and the place is clean I believe it is a diamond in the rough.... Amazing everything

  • Jay K.

My kind of greasy dive breakfast joint. The food and value is so righteous. Stay away from the biscuits and gravy...it was lousy period but the rest of the breakfast menu was great. Don't forget the red and green chili sauce.

    (4)
  • Tommy T.

I realize I don't post enough reviews to places that are well deserving of them, that changes now. The cats been out of the bag on this diner for awhile now, come during peak times and be prepared to wait for a table or barstool. But there is good reason for this, the food is top notch, great effort and care is put into even the basics. Hashbrowns come out perfect everytime, menu has something for everyone and you can smother anything for a buck with some of the best green Chile in town. Service has always been good for me, definitely on the top of my no frills/bs breakfast joints.

  • Sidney H.

A fantastic breakfast spot!! A ton of items/combinations to choose from, but some of their lunch items are hit and miss. The burgers were delicious, especially the "Hit The Spot" burger. But when I tried their gyros and fish sandwich, I wasn't impressed or satisfied with my choice. I do love their steak fries. The service can be "laidback" at times, but I usually get my order to go anyway. Also, don't forget to try their red(or green) chili. It's great.

    (3)
  • Kristen W.

There is nothing my family loves more than a leisurely greasy diner breakfast and this one rocks! Full of character and regulars you can enjoy the Colfax ambiance! The green chili is killer and the portions are generous. I love the Huevos Rancheros and my College kids swear by the XL Breakfast Burrito....mucho grande and oh so delicious!! Pancakes are fluffy. And the biscuits and gravy are my hubby's fav. Come try it out!

  • Ruth M.

This is the BEST place for breakfast! The food is served quickly and tastes amazing. The owner/chef is a great cook. Don't go there unless you are hungry. The portions are huge and the price is small. A real hometown eatery. Take your out of town guests there for a real treat Denver treat.

    (5)
  • Terry F.

I love Hits the Spot! Their Santa Fe skillet is amazing. I highly recommend it! In fact, that sounds so perfect after a really fun night last night so I'm going to order it to-go!

  • Katy R.

Nice little spot right down the street. People are nice, but the service isn't exceptional. Seat yourself seating is great! Great food, great price! I will keep going back. Wish it was open later.

Good service. Generous portions. Classic diner. Nothing special but they're fast and they're friendly. I'll come back.

  • Alice K.

Service: 4 Food: 3 Sometimes, you want to go to a place where they serve the basics, and it is for this reason I gravitate towards diners. Hey, what's a higher cholesterol rate when your stomach is full and satisfied? I read that the Cinnamon French Toast was good but I just couldn't justify eating two days' worth of calories and sugar in one sitting, so I opted for the short stack with a side of hash browns. Pancakes were good... pancakey and normal tasting but I was disappointed with the potatoes. I prefer my hash brown and tomatoes to be crispy on the outside and soft goodness on the inside; these were just... soft and greasy. I picked out the crunchy bits and called it a day. Should I return, I'm trying to smothered breakfast burritos, calories be damned.

  • Jessica D.

We like this place and visit a couple of times a month. I rate it four stars because: 1. Food comes out hot and fast! 2. Good service from the staff 3. Generous portions 4. Very reasonable prices Pro tip: the place is a tad small and stays pretty busy on weekends, so you might have a hard time taking a group of people there and getting seated in a timely fashion. If you're in the area, check it out!

    (4)
  • Kay C.

Food was poor, seating was quick, service was OK, but overall, not a place I would ever go back to. First and only visit. My omelet was greasy, flavorless, and lacked quality. The potatoes are gross! Just a big pile on the plate. They portions were decent, but so what if the food sucks. For the location, quality, and clientele, I would say today place needs to charge a hell of a lot less. They aren't worthy of the high prices, especially since the food is horrible.

  • Tara V.

I absolutely love this place. Great service, food has always been good and the price is right. I'll go out of my way to eat here.

I have to dramatically downgrade Hits The Spot Diner. I'm not doing this on a whim -- I used to love this place. However, what used to be four star service and food has diminished measurably, PLUS they've raised their prices. Put simply, the food (especially lunch! Stay away from the burgers!) and service do not warrant any sort of price increase, or, frankly, any more of my business. The last three times we've been to Hits The Spot Diner there have been three or more tables that remained dirty and un-bused for the duration of our stay. There are typically a fair amount of customers eating or waiting to eat, making this sort of laziness and disregard inexcusable. The waitresses also seem to be developing the unfortunate tendency of avoiding eye contact so they don't have to serve you. This is a real drag since they are often late to take your order and when they do, it is screwed up. One waitress was so obviously not paying attention to our order that I went out of my way to clarify it twice. She still messed it up. Again, why would I pay MORE for THIS? I wouldn't. And I won't. Sorry, Hits The Spot, you're off my Lakewood Favorites list and you've also lost a long-time customer -- one who has introduced many others to your establishment. I won't be doing that anymore, nor will I myself be returning.

  • David R.

I really dig this place. It's in not the best of neighborhoods -- but they find a way to put together a great place to eat. It's colocated with a seedy motel, which kind of adds to the skanky-cool vibe. The wait staff is amazing. Always friendly, always thorough. The breakfasts are delivered hot and pronto quick. And the price? Very reasonable. It's tough to spend more than $10.

  • Carrie B.

My Husband had the Chorizo Skillet, and made me take a bite. I hate chorizo, but this I loved and so did he. I had the Golden Scrambler with green chili added, and it was just right...not too meaty. I like to get the 2 silver dollar pancakes, which are included in the $7.50 scrambler. The pancakes are so fluffy and more than enough to stand alone. The wait staff is awesome, friendly, and female.

Amazing breakfast. Very inexpensive. The staff is always helpful and very attentive to their jobs. Love this place.

Hits The Spot is one of my favorite places for me and my family to have breakfast. The only issue is the service is absolutely awful. I witnessed one customer bussing his own table and another go into the back to get what he needed not to mention it took ten minutes for our drinks to get refilled. I work in the industry and I understand places get busy but it takes two seconds to check on tables and make sure that they are ok. Either the girls need more training or the staffing needs to be better. Great food but awful service.

I am from Chicago and was in town for the Broncos game. Four of us took the redeye to Denver and found out or hotel wouldn't accept us to eat or... nap. Starving and tired out of our gourds I came on Yelp to see what was good. Immediately everyone said let's go to Hit the Spot. We ordered a full spread of omelets, breakfast burritos, French toast, and probably 4 sides. They not only got our order in quick, they got everything out to us in record time and made sure we had our fair share of drinks. The food was fabulous. I recommend anything Greek here. Definitely a small place but worth the money!

    (5)
  • Scott B.

The menu is typical western diner fare-- sandwiches, burgers, Mexican staple dishes--but it's well made from what seem like quality ingredients. The dining room is very clean (if plain) and the service is quick and friendly. There are a few TVs in a small space, but they didn't prevent conversation. A solid spot worth your visit.

  • Jeremy C.

After trying many, many different breakfast places in the area, this is where my wife and I always end up these days. The portions are ample, the prices are modest, and the food is generally tasty. My only complaint is that their hash browns contain lots of caraway, which I cannot stand. Most of their better breakfast dishes are made with their hash browns and the hash browns can not be ordered without the caraway. It's really a shame, because everything is otherwise spectacular. This would be a 5-star review if I was able to get a nice breakfast here with hash browns that didn't contain little flavor bombs of ass.

  • Collin L.

I would try this place but one of their marketing strategies drives me crazy! They often have a sign spinner at the corner of Sheridan and Colfax during morning rush hour. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but the sign-spinner slowly walks through the crosswalks every time the light turns--making cars that are trying to turn instead have to wait for the slow-moving sign holder to clear the road. SUPER annoying. This unnecessarily slows down traffic when traffic is already at its worst.

    (3)
  • Demitri R.

Cant go wrong with Breakfast. They have a Guy with a Sign on Colfax and Sheridan with a sign advertising the Steak Special. I went with the 2+2+2 Its 2 Pancakes, Ham and Eggs. Its reasonably priced. And as for the fastest Egg in the west. My order came out faster than i have ever seen and it was busy. Friendly staff all the way around. Sit at the bar and watch your order being made.Lots of tasty items on the menu. My pancakes I had 2. Were sweet, and they werent dry and sucking down syrup. My eggs were done nice and not rubbery. The Ham steak was medium sized, didnt taste salty like other establishments or have been over cooked. It was spot on delicious.

Every other Saturday or so I have the opportunity to go to breakfast with my dad, my brother, and my grandpa- kind of a fun little tradition that we've developed. We've been trying all sorts of breakfast joints around the metro, and I can't think of any that we've hit up recently that have been better than Hits the Spot. Located in the old Dollhouse Cafe, the interior is updated, clean, and really quite pleasant. My experience at Hits the Spot was pretty great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I'm not sure whether my coffee cup ever got below half full (which is saying something the way that I drink!) I ordered a Greek skillet which was loaded with gyros, onions, tomatoes, feta (a ton of it), plus eggs, all piled on top of hashbrowns. I don't remember the exact price, but it was a bargain at around $7.00. The best part was that it came with a choice of toast, pancakes, or french toast... who offers french toast as a throw-in? I couldn't pass that up and was treated to a couple pieces of solid french toast. All of the food was truly superb for a little diner-ish place. Although my family and I don't repeat restaurants too often, I will definitely be pushing to head back to Hits the Spot on a Saturday morning in the near future.

  • Mike P.

Great food, great prices. Friendly staff when they're not too busy. Watch out for some FREAKY people that regular the place, one guy in particular harassed me and scared me and they 86'd him but I've seen him in here since and more in control. The Gyro Burger is definitely the way to go

  • Rob R.

Hell yeah! Found this place after thinking they went out of business. I used to go here with my honkeys for hungover breakfast in Golden, and now they are a little further away on Colfax. Tasty southwestern and Greek skillets, omelettes, etc. good coffee with fast refills and sassy cunty waitresses.

  • Chris M.

Great breakfast, good prices terrible service. I have been here several time before and service has been great. Not today! Staff needs training to be more attentive an help each other out.

    (2)
  • Scott B.

Scratching my head why people like this place so much. Went for brunch last weekend and every possible part of the meal was terrible. Poor service, gross orange juice, scrambled eggs that were more like an omelette (no scramble or fluff to them), fatty weird bacon, biscuits and gravy with lumpy mix gravy. The coffee was both weak and bad, even for a diner. The service was disinterested and decor left a lot to be desired. It's worth the drive to Santa Fe to go to Breakfast King instead.

    (1)
  • Doug B.

Very good food, clean, and fast service. This spot was a total surprise, does not look like much from the outside, but inside it's very clean, friendly staff and well worth coming to this small diner!

On a recent trip to Denver to visit family, the brother in law and I stopped here for some breakfast. He had very high praise for this place. I am a sucker for an awesome skillet. Awesome is what I received! I got the Chorizo skillet with the green chili sauce. Where I come from Hot is like a green pepper. This skillet knocked me on my ass. It was spicy hot and flavorful. The Chorizo sausage was so spicy and good. The only problem with this meal, is it sat with me all day if you know what I'm saying....Overall service was good, not great. She never came back to check up on us. Lucky for her the meal was awesome. I would definitely come back the next time we are in town.

Clean diner with decent food. Reminds me of the Coney's back in Detroit. You can get Greek-ish food, Mexican food, or American food. Definitely heading back here for a cheap breakfast.

Used to like this place, but the quality of the food has gone down and the prices have gone up. Service has always been below par.

I was so sad when the Golden location closed but so excited when I discovered the new location! This is the best breakfast around and we will drive here from Golden in the morning because it is simply that good. I love that you can get french toast for your toast and that it is delicious french toast. I love the skillet and sizzler options (the Greek Skillet is a favorite of ours). I love that the service has always been attentive and quick. I wish that they were still in Golden but that's probably for the better because we now live within walking distance from the old location!

  • Samson P.

This diner is in the old Doll House cafe location. I went there for a late breakfast with my family. As they are relatively new, the place isn't 100% decorated, but once the food came out, that was of no consequence. I personally had the breakfast plate rightly named "The Biggest". It consisted of thick potato hash browns, 2 sausage patties, that were oh so tender, 2 strips of bacon, that were so juicy, and tasty , that they were the first to go off my plate! It also came with 3 eggs and 3 very large pancakes that were the best I have had in a long time. Fluffy and very tasty! My nephew had a burrito, and I can honestly say I have never seen one so large!!! The Hits the Spot diner will definitely be on my list for continued visits. *One note- They DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS at the moment, but they do have an ATM on site.

Cinnamon roll french toast is about the best I've had. Also the hit's the spot omellette is great. The gravy that comes with the biscuits and gravy, absolutely horrid however.

I am a fan. The new diner to go to in Lakewood. Everything was very clean and new inside. The employees were neat and nice. And the food was great. I got the "taco skillet" and it was huge. Could've fed 3 people for $6.50... It says "fastest egg in the west". I don't know about that but their eggs are divine. The coffee wasn't the greatest but I"m interested to try some of their other menu items. I will be back. update: they raised their prices by $1.

I have lived in the neighborhood my whole life and always avoided places on coax for the most part. But when we decided to try Hits the Spot, it was one of the smartest moves we have made. The place was clean, friendly, and packed. The food was on the table before I could bat an eyelash. We both ordered skillets and they were awesome! None of that fake frozen potato and meat crap you get at other places. We will definitely be back soon.

  • Erin M.

This has become my husband and Is Sunday tradition. Their food is inexpensive, delicious and its enough food to last you the entire day! I love the green chile smothered cheese omelett. Whenever we go the sign always says seat yourself and there is always a couple tables waiting to be cleaned and no where to sit, thats where the wait comes in. Otherwise the staff is friendly quick and courteous and the food is just great!

  • Diana A.

If you are looking for a diner in the Edgewater/E Lakewood area you are in luck! This place is super clean, amazing service, great cheap food! It usually isn't hard to find a table during weekend brunch hours which is always a plus in my book. It seems like a little secret in the area - maybe since it is on this stretch of Colfax people don't think to look for a restaurant here? Anyways it has been our gain. They have a big menu with something for everyone. I have been trying the skillets which you can easily get 2 menus out of it. Give it a try - the name doesn't lie - It Hits the Spot!

Solid diner/breakfast spot. Cheap, fast, good hours. Funny to see lots of the retired regulars in every day. If you find yourself on West Colfax and want some breakfast/diner food, this place would work.

Honestly I don't know what the raves are about. I'll just take ya thru from beginning: Enter the vestibule and you are literally assaulted by the smell of mold and fungus. Inside, the diner counter area is nice, very 50's, but the rotting wood paneling and brick of the table area is depressing. The first time I went there was a sleet storm outside, second time a snowstorm, swear to jeebus it was colder in that restaurant than outside. I had to leave my coat on and still froze as the A/C blew hard enough to refreeze the polar caps. And I am not a lover of the heat, Anything over 70 and I'm roasting to death! The food is best suited for 80 yr old WASPs with stomach cancer. Horribly bland. I asked for soft hashbrowns but they were mostly very crispy and burned almost. Except for on the inside where they were still somehow raw. I've been there 3 times now, and all three times I've had to leave within 10 min of getting my food because I just couldn't take the cold anymore, and there was no point because it was ice cold within five mins of arriving. And the prices aren't really very cheap. They have two cheap things, and everything else is the same price as all the other comperable (yet better) places.

This place is awesome! Best price breakfast in town... Food is great!! Good luck finding parking at lunch. Can't go wrong with the steak and egg special. The burritos are great too! Friendly waitstaff... The inside has had a complete remodel and looks great!

On Colfax, nothing fancy but very clean and absolutely fantastic breakfast. Service was verys good as well. I had the chicken fried steak skillet which was absolutely fantastic. The chicken fried steak was nice & crunchy and flavorful. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the gravy to die for. My husband had some sort of omelette with sausage which was very good. We each got the "cakes" on the side which were nice & fluffy. I would definitely come here again, and again.......
