We were in the neighborhood looking for a place to sit and be served fast and at a reasonable price so we stopped here. They have separate senior menus and price discounts in the late afternoon. They are smaller portions but good meals that come out quicker than some sandwich shops. It is a treat to chose your own sides and you can make healthy choices if you want to. I had the salmon with a salad and broccoli. The cajun salmon was nice and came on a bed of rice. You get cornbread and rolls with the meal that seem hot out of the oven. This place is pretty affordable for what you get and is a great place to get in and out quick without the fast food feel. We had great speedy service when we were there on a Saturday around 4:00pm.

Service was friendly and solid. Not super fast but not slow either. Food is good but a dollar or two pricier on a few items then it could be.

I haven't been to a Black Eyed Pea in about 20 years, all I knew was it was home cooking. They had a fork-lift outside, which makes sense when you see the portions of the food! Holy heart attack on a plate! I ate it so fast you'd think I was a starving child, but that was really just a testament to how good it was. Our server also did a great job, either he was out of the norm or on his A-Game, but everything was very prompt and he was super polite. The prices were pretty reasonable for the quantity. It was a tough call giving this a 4 star, b/c home cooking isn't what most people think when they go out. Not sure why, maybe b/c it's all stuff I could make...if I had 40lbs of food lying around. However, when you're in the mood for pot roast, country fried stuff that includes a lot of sides of goodness, BEP has you covered - so for that my friend, I think they should get a 4.

Wow....why isn't anyone in Denver reviewing Black-eyed Pea restaurants? This is one of Denver's best kept secrets for good home style cooking. (well there are 15 stores in Colorado and 35 stores in Texas....so not a real secret...) Black-eyed Pea has a quality similar to Marie Calendar's but with a Southern influence. They specialize in American comfort food: Chicken fried steak, meatloaf, pot roast, fried chicken, fried catfish, black-eyed peas (duhhhh), fried okra, etc. Don't even think about any cultural influences west of the Mississippi River or east of the Mason Dixon line. Asian fusion to these guys is a Toyota body welder. The only thing French in here are the fries or the dressing. After scanning the menu.....I ordered: 1. Chicken pot pie: This is not your ordinary pot pie. For one, the gravy isn't that creamy white Marie Calendar sauce. It is translucent with many herbs and spices added to the sauce. There were carrots, celery, peas, onions in the pie. The chicken was grilled before being chopped into the pie. The crust was very light and fluffy, yet had enough body to stand up to the pot pie. Overall, a very tasty and great chicken pot pie. 2. Fried okra: This had a very tradition cormeal breading covering cylindrical pieces of okra. The okra was good but not spectacular. 3. Blackeyed Peas: This was cooked with ham and seasonings An extremely good pea dish with the small amounts of ham to give it depth. 4. Blackeyed pea soup: Wow....what a great taste. Large chuncks of tomato was in the soup along with a variety of herbs and spices. Overall: A solid 4 stars. Another great alternative to the standard home cooked meal restaurants.

Wow! It's been a while since I've ventured in to a Black Eyed Pea. We may have been the youngest couple in there for lunch as they are pretty popular with the senior crowd. Don't judge!! Seniors gotta eat too! The decor was updated & the bar area looked great (nice TVs) primed for hanging out & watching events with friends. The menu has also changed, updated with great choices for lunch & dinner, if you can't find what you want in this menu you've got problems. Our server was as perfect as you can get, what a great personality. Absolutely no complaints with our lunch & we will definitely be back more often.

Four of us came in for dinner about an hour before closing. The host was nice & our server, Nick, was patient and friendly. Nick was also very attentive; he provided excellent customer service. Our meals arrived quickly & were very tasty.

Chicken Fried Steak. It's a classic American dish, and one that the Black Eyed Pea is known for. Yet this location found a way to mess up one of their signature plates by not fully cooking it. My list of gripes about this location are as follows: 1: It's dingy, and if you have like wobbly tables you'll find them here. At least our group did. 2: Inattentive service. No I don't want my chicken fried steak smothered in gravy, I want it on the side. When a server comes to my table and messes up my drink choice, and gets my main order wrong I'm not going to be happy. 3: Cold green beans. Seriously. 4: Tea. Well it was supposed to be tea. It kinda looked like tea, but it ended up tasting like sugar as I had to use an awful lot of sugar to make it consumable. 5: Chicken Fried Steak. Ok so it's not the same as what I'll find in Texas. But I at the very least want it to arrive hot, and to be able to chew it. What I got looked like someone in the kitchen was in a hurry to slam the plates out the door and they didn't seem to care what made it to the table. I was starving so I forced half of it down. But with each bite it just kept getting worse and worse...and I finally gave up. About 45 minutes after my visit to this Black Eyed Pea I was stopping at Walgreens for pepto. My stomach expressed it's displeasure with my food choices...and when that happens....it's pretty much a given I won't be back. I've heard so many good things about the Black Eyed Pea that I looked forward to giving it a try. But in this case the only thing I left with was a bad case of indigestion and a heaping helping of disappointment. (Needless to say me and my family will not be back).

Visited Saturday for my wife's grandpa's 91st birthday. He ordered meatloaf, and wanted white gravy on his mashed potatoes, and their tomato-based sauce on the meatloaf. His dish came out with brown gravy on both. The server did offer to take it back and get it fixed, but he didn't want to make a fuss. Both the server and manager that came out later joked that they'd smack around the kitchen staff for getting it wrong. In my view, good service is making things right, even if the 91 year old man doesn't want to make a fuss. Just bring out the correct food anyway, or discount the bill a little, just do something. Everyone else in our group seemed fine with their meals, my pot roast was pretty decent, one particularly gross fatty chunk was in there, but the rest was fine. The restaurant seemed a bit dingy, but clean enough.

Not my kind of place. Seems to cater to traditional artery clogging goodness... Which is fine, if that's what you want. If you want Chicken fried chicken buried in a steaming mound of gravy, you might like this!

The last visit we had here was okay. I'm not a big fan of my server standing to the side or behind me while taking my order (or taking the bill with my credit card). It's uncomfortable to strain my neck while trying to turn and see him. Anyway, the food came out decently fast. The fried mushrooms are very good and definitely worth getting. I asked the person delivering my food for a side, and it was forgotten. When our actual server finally came to check on us, he brought out the side I requested, and the side which was not brought out with the meal. We had the apple crisp dessert, which was yummy. In all, the Black Eyed Pea is not too bad when it comes to dinner... just don't have high expectations of the food or service and you won't be disappointed.

Not the best experience. The hostess insisted on seating the five of us at a tiny table (for which she had to obtain an extra chair), when we could have just as easily fit at a booth or a larger table. She was also condescending and rude when I asked why the waitstaff was bringing out extra plates before our meal. It turns out they offer amazing corn bread and dinner rolls before the meal, but the bread basket and all of the extra plates made our cramped table even more claustrophobic. The food was also sub-par. The broccoli cheese soup was terribly bland, the green beans too salty, and the fried okra needed loads of ranch dressing to be edible (and I don't even like ranch dressing). Disappointments aside, I actually enjoyed the squash casserole, and when the waitress saw that I hadn't eaten my soup, she asked why and immediately offered to take it off of the bill when I told her. That's at least one win for the day.

Good food, service and I highly suggest either the chicken fried chicken or the chicken fried steak. Southern style cooking. I like it better than Cracker Barrel. Seem to cater to the senior crowd. Must give a senior discount.

Its black eyed pea.. better then Denny's and definitely better then Cracker Barrel. Going here you get a step above diner style southern food. Its good and it wont let you down, filling and portions are reasonable for the price. its that goto when you don't want something to fancy but don't want fast food either. Like a perfect in between. I've never had bad service at this location and they never try to rush me out when its close to closing so i give them props for that. I do enjoy their long island every time I've had it. People are attentive and the food in my opionion is just a bit better then chili's next door. It is mine and my fiancee's fail safe out to dinner spot. And the rolls are super good.

No one was at the front to greet us as we entered. They finally seated us. Good waiter service, just not greeter service. Food is average. Vegetable plate was fresh; in fact, one had to be brought a minute later.

It has been a while since I have visited the Pea. They have closed quite a few locations and their portions have grown smaller over the years as this used to be a family favorite. I love the large glasses for less refilling of the drinks. The rolls are better than the cornbread because they feel that sugar belongs in cornbread, which we all know is WRONG! I have always liked the cajun catfish on rice. Their sides have definitely grown smaller in portions, but they are so go good. Love the red beans and rice, kernal corn and the spinach. The value is still there for a clean Southern food restaurant. Thinking of trying the chicken fried Monday deal tonight!

Another great trip to the Pea... Like I said in the past review "love this place" and not much has changed to make me rethink my love of this place. Love stopping by for lunch but I have lately started going here for for dinner replacing my trips to Chili's. I have noticed they had started changing up the prices for their lunches but still a great value for the money. Older people love it, not a hip bar or restaurant but you can get some drinks and beers and the food is good. Great waitstaff, and I don't think I have had a bad visit in my many years of coming to this location.

I'm saddened by the closure of a few other Black Eyed Peas. Love the southern flavor of this chain! I remember their cocktails/blended drinks being very cheap and tasty! The cornbread is something I always long for, so are the potato skins, YUM!

This place is just a DUMP. We went with family because it was nearby for everyone, and I was actually looking forward to it, having had a great experience at the Northglenn BEP location. So, let me just say that LOCATION matters! This location was smaller and half the tables we passed were uncleaned. The waiter brought waters, which was nice, unfortunately, there were black particles in mine. Strike One. We ordered Potato Skins as an app, and perused the menu for awhile. A LONG while. About 10 minutes later, we placed our orders. The waiter said "I'll be right back with your mushrooms!" Great, buddy, but we ordered POTATO SKINS! He spun and ran to the kitchen without a word to US, but muttering "Uh, Oh!" About 5 minutes later, the Potato Skins arrived, and actually looked good. Unfortunately, the "Sour Cream" on the side was so liquidy, we couldn't tell the difference between that and the ranch, and had to ask. He told us, so that was helpful. What wasn't helpful was that the "Ranch" was actually Blue Cheese, which our unwitting guest didn't figure out until she'd heaped it upon her Potato Skin and taken a bite. EW! Strike 2. Literally 2 minutes later, as we were about half-done with our respective potato skin appetizer, the waiter arrived back. We were hoping to get the Blue Cheese replaced, but no worries, because he had our ENTREES all ready to go. Really? REALLY?? We waited 25 minutes for an appetizer, but the entrees fly out of the kitchen literally before we could get TWO BITES of the appetizer in? Oh, and the rim of my plate was filthy, all schmutzed up with yellowish goo. (I ordered pot roast and spinach. No yellow goo.) It was so filthy, I didn't even want to eat it. Strike 3, We won't be back.

I'm not sure why I like this place but I do. The service was average, but the food is simple yet satisfying (I had the pot roast). And this place must be the hip place for senior citizens go. Definitely wouldn't take a date here but if you have a craving for your average American selection, Black Eyed Pea is a good choice.
