This place looked like a quaint little family roadside restaurant in the mountains from the outside, and I really wanted to love it. My husband ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and bacon, and I ordered a veggie burger with cheese. While we were waiting for our food on a picnic table near the kitchen, we noticed that the kitchen manager was in a rage, yelling constantly and very loudly at the employees, who all appeared to be around 14 years old. His anger was obviously out of proportion for the things he was mad about (i.e. a hot-dog he prepared got cold before it was brought out to a customer, the girl at the cash register did not ask what kind of cheese someone wanted on her burger). It was so uncomfortable to sit and listen to him verbally abuse the young employees that we almost got up and left before getting our food. One of the kids who worked there apologized for the yelling man and said that he is always like that (some comfort). My husband ended up receiving his grilled cheese without any tomatoes or bacon on it, but we were too scared to complain because we thought the yelling man might take it out on the kids. One of the kids noticed that my husband had the wrong order and sheepishly brought out another grilled cheese, this one with tomatoes but no bacon. The kitchen manager obviously has some anger management issues that need to be taken care of as a priority before he continues overseeing workers, especially young workers who might not know that this is not an acceptable way for anyone to be treated. I hope that others who hear this happening before they order will take their business elsewhere, as I wish I would have done. We need to send the message that, no matter how good the food is, it is more important to treat employees well.

It was just ok. Nothing special. We needed lunch so we stopped. I probably will not stop here again. Not to much flavor and slightly overpriced.

Up looking for a little 2nd home south of Jefferson. Food was super good especially the Spicy Elk Brats!!!! My wife's cheeseburger was super too!!

The Depot Dog was fantastic! Bacon, chili, cheese, onions, relish and dog hit the spot. Also try: Trainwreck Burger and the chocolate shake

Spent the weekend in the Lost Park area and we were in need of a good meal. We came through Jefferson hoping for a large choice of eateries, but only saw this place and the gas station/kitchen across the street. We chose wisely. I had a hamburger fries and coke. The burger was amazing, and the fries were extra salty and crispy, my favorite. My friends had burritos and gave them the thumbs up as well. The staff was friendly and talked with us for a bit while we waited for the food. Only complaint is the price, my fries, cheeseburger and coke came in at $11. You can obviously eat for less there if you want but had a bit of sticker shock there.

We blasted through Jefferson today and we needed a treat. We've stopped in Jefferson before for a coffee or an ice cream cone on the east side of the street not realizing the place we needed to be was at 'the Moose'. Jefferson is just a blip on the highway so finding the Red Caboose will be impossible to miss. Drive up, order at the window, anchor yourself at a picnic table (as a previous reviewer pointed out - this is where the wind goes when it is done everywhere else) and jump up to the window when they call your name. It's the best! Today's treat were the malts. Yummy! We raved about them all the way back to town. P.S. I'm waiting to award the fifth star after we try the burgers. They looked and smelled amazing!

We were driving south from Denver and knew we wanted to stop for lunch. We chose this because of the great 5 star reviews on yelp. So glad we did! We would have driven right by otherwise. Skip the restaurants in Bailey and drive to Jefferson (as long as the weather is nice because it is outdoor seating)! Great hamburgers, BBQ pork and chicken! The setting in the valley with the snow-capped mountains was beautiful as well!

Food is good. The service was terrible the day I went there. Once they started bringing me my order (not all at once), it took them about 20 minutes before I got all of the items I ordered.

This place has the best burgers and BBQ! I just happened to stop by when I was hungry, (have driven through this area several times but haven't ever stopped to eat), and was so surprised at how amazing the hamburger was. Solid beef, toppings, and bun. So on my next drive through this summer, I made sure to stop and try their BBQ. Equally impressive. And judging from the number of motorcyclists that were there, it's no secret for them.

The cheeseburger was fantastic. The meat was fresh as were all of the vegetables (lettuce, tomato, onions). The service was prompt, and very courteous. Not sure about why anyone would complain about a fresh $6.75 hamburger. One serving of fries was more than enough for my wife and I. The historical train station was a bonus. We will definitely stop net time we are on 285.

Headed to the Valley, we stopped at this little place. It's a little joint, you order at the little window, eat at either a picnic table or in your car and go. I had a burger and my FH had a pulled pork sandwhich. TO DIE FOR! Very tasteful and hearty! The fries are yummy too! They have condiments and knapkins on the tables and are pretty friendly. Regardless of the time of year, it's windy. Jefferson sits in a valley like setting and the wind blows all of the time. Hang on to your meal!
