We ate lunch after going white water rafting in Idaho Springs, got a coupon from the rafting company for 10% off. This place was awesome!! First thing I saw when we walked in was home made tequila??? Ok I'm all in. It was tasty. The prices on the items were all reasonable, around $9-10 for entree, and they had a few extras that I loved, one being the cabbage salsa seved with the fresh warm tortillas. Excellent. Cons being the timeliness of the kitchen and wait staff. The front of the house wasn't entirely busy, but it did take an exorbant amount of time for us to get what seemed to be normal items on the menu. Atmosphere was typical of a mexican restaurant, had wooden booths, nothing really special about the decor. I had the enchilada and taco lunch special. My enchilada sauce was extra delicious and deep red and savory(muy bueno) and my taco was very tasty as well. My favorite thing though was that awesome cabbage slaw and salsa they serve. When I go home and want to replicate the recipe, I think its a good thing. Go try it out, you'll love the food and love milling around the streets of Idaho Springs afterwards with all the cute shops!!

Very authentic Mexican Chicanos. The sauce was like a mole. Not hot but delicious. They were very busy but still helpful for a one top! This steak is like a chuck so if you don't want to chew your meat don't order. The salad is so nutritious with cabbage cilantro cucumber tomatoe. Very nice. Highly recommend especially for an isolated Mountian town.

Amazing authentic Mexican cuisine nestled in Downtown / main street of Idaho springs small town in the Mts of Colorado which came as our life Saver after white water rafting on perilous crystal creek river, hours after lunch time and starving. The chips with Pico De Gallo and salsa had an amazing flavor and packed quite a spicy kick! Paired with huge $3 margaritas, theres no way this place is getting any lower than a 4 star. You should see the size of their big Margarita! Its huge! I had LA aztecha burrito W pulled beef, Verde sauce with Guac, sour cream, beans, and an awesome cheesy sauce and it was so good. The broiled chicken taco salad was also amazing and a hearty portion. This place really reminds me of Miguel's in Tampa but with a better drinks special and really hit the spot. Its a lot like that place in Orlando I went to. The decor is traditional Mexican with plenty of booths. Service was quick and courteous. There is parking on main street on the street but they don't have a separate parking lot. The music was a great authentic Mexican as well. The serving sizes we're so Big i have enough for later! Went here for dinner and the food was very good. One of the best fish tacos I've had. Margaritas were tasty. Our server was very friendly. We had a voucher for $20 from Indian Hot Springs so that made it even better. If you're looking for some good Mexican food at decent prices, this is the place

The salsa was excellent. The rice and beans were great too. I had the beef taco and the cheese enchaladia. The taco was decent but seemed to be the standard sysco bought shells. The enchaladia was ok but the cheese was not heated all the way thru and it tasted like the pre shredded cheese which often has cellulose read wood pulp. Great server and a nicely decorated place. I will go back and try some of the specialty dishes.

3 stars for a mediocre restaurant. The food was just okay - served warm but not hot. The service was alright - not bad but not great. We asked the server a question about the chicken and he said "I don't know" rather than finding out for us. He also messed up the beans and admitted that he just wasn't paying attention. The best part was the cabbage salsa that came out with the regular salsa (which was spicy). It was like a finely shredded cabbage with tomatoes and onions in some sauce - quite tasty! The chorizo burrito was great, beans and rice not so much.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in colorado! I love the food, it's fast and delicious with most items homemade. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the servers are always sweet and knowledgable. The prices are good especially for lunch and I frequent them often. One of the best restaurants in Idaho Springs.

Definitely a great place and it's family owned. We were greeted by our waiter when we arrived and sat quickly. An older lady gave us some chips and salsa with Mexican salad. It was pretty tasty. Husband ordered steak Chicano, I ordered the combo fajitas. Husband loved his steak. I really liked the chicken, but the steak in the fajitas wasn't great. I tried my husbands steak, and didn't like it either, but he did, so I guess it's just a preference. Waiter was very attentive and everyone was friendly. Only 4 starts because they didn't have any drink specials. They had a full bar, but no drink menu. Weird.

We really liked this place. First off, chips and salsas were excellent - the salsa was spicy and the other cabbage salsa was delicious! Appreciated the quick refill of the chips and salsas as we were starting to get empty. We shared the steak chicano and arroz con pollo - both were tasty and served hot to our table. I liked the chicken more, but both were great. Service was fast and friendly. I would def come back and recommend this place to others.

My husband and I have lived in Idaho Springs for nearly five years now and have never really made a habit of going out to eat...mostly because my husband is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and a culinary ninja, so we choose to enjoy our meals at home. One evening, however, we wanted to get out of the house for dinner, so we chose to give Azteca a try, and it is one of the best decisions we've made since moving to this little mountain community!! We enjoyed that first experience at Azteca so much, in fact, that we have eaten there at least once a week, sometimes twice and thrice, ever since. First of all, the service is AWESOME!! You will be greeted with a smile and treated like one of the family at every single visit. The margaritas are INCREDIBLE!! Give the homemade tequila a shot, literally!! The food...I don't even know where to begin...we have tried so many items on the menu and have never once been, even slightly, disappointed!! This is a restaurant to which we have since taken every one of our out-of-town guests, and the experience is always raved about afterwards. Stop in Azteca, hang out for an hour or two, enjoy the ambiance, the company and the tequila!!

My favorite Mexican restaurant! I was raised on Mexican from a small family owned and operated place in Colorado Springs that after 20 some years closed. This is the next best thing. Also family owned and operated with great folks. The food is authentic because it is old recipes. I can't even say I have a favorite because everything is amazing! From the simple cheese enchiladas to the burrito marina (seafood) it is all good. Large portions and fast service. Very clean and professional. I am lucky to live in a town with such great food! Located conveniently right next door to the Irish store where I work. I am a frequent customer! They have even delivered it to me. My father, who is Texas and loves Mexican stated that Aztec was his new favorite and he'd take me to lunch anytime as long as it was there.

I struggle with 3 or 4 stars. The food is worthy of 4 stars. Most Mexican food restaurants simply stuff a burrito or taco with under-seasoned meat and then cover it with some slop and call it authentic. Azteca does a nice job with the food. Nicely seasoned meat. Good salsa and chips, too. The service has been spotty, though. I've never seen the place packed, but the service has still been slow and inattentive at times. I give it 4 stars because it is one of the best Mexican food restaurants I have been to, I just hope the service improves.

Wile traveling in Breckenridge, I wanted Mexican food. I stopped in here and was surprised. The staff was nice, the place was clean, and the food was great. I had the Chimichanga, rice, and beans. I liked each item. Everything tasted good and fresh.

We ended up here for a late dinner while staying at Indian Hot Springs. They are open later than a lot of the other restaurants in the area and offer a discount to people staying at the hot springs, so we decided to give it a try and I'm glad that we did. They start you with chips, salsa and a cabbage pico de gallo/salsa which were excellent. I had a chicken burrito, the shredded chicken was delicious (shredded chicken can be hit or miss) and the other half had a chicken dish that I don't remember the name of., but he thought it was amazing! Service was a little slow, although that could be because it was getting close to closing time, but overall it was a good experience.

I finally found a great restaurant in Idaho Springs. Azteca is on the main route through town right across from the Buffalo Restaurant and Bar. I was drawn to it because of the two small sidewalk-side tables where I could sit with my dog. What I found is a family owned and run restaurant using family recipes that rock! We had $3.00 lime margaritas, amazing chile verde, and a huge and very flavorful Enchilada Azteca. All with amazing flavors. Don't stress in the I-70 parking lot when they're blasting on the Twin Tunnels, or you foolishly headed back to the Front Range on a Sunday afternoon. Pop into Azteca and delight in their great food and atmosphere!

DO NOT EAT HERE!! Avoid the store bought salsa and tortillas. My fajita burrito was practically meatless and the little meat that was there was BURNT! If you are looking for a delicious meal with great service, don't eat here. The service was horrible. Luckily, I won't have to decide to eat here again because I was asked not to come back to their Restaurant because I complained about my shrimp less shrimp cocktail. When I first mentioned this to our young waitress she said that she would only charge half, then upon receiving our bill we were told that they had to call the Owner to see how to handle this matter and that she was told by the Owner not to charge us for the cocktail and for us to never come back. The waitress assured me that the cocktail had more than the 4 shrimp I claimed it had and that I should have complained sooner. Enjoy a Cadillac margarita and anything on the menu and you will have a great meal. My personal favorite is the spinach enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. They have an extensive menu so you can explore the options. We judge Mexican restaurants by the quality of their green chili and Azteca does not disappoint.

Unable to rate the food, as the service was so terrible we had to leave. Stopped in after being stuck in traffic for an hour + on a Sunday afternoon, totally hungry. Had a toddler and a baby with us. We were super relieved when we arrived to see the restaurant practically empty - that should have been the first sign. After being seated, they promptly brough us chips and salsa .... and then nothing else. After three different servers walked by us several times, and one even looked back at our table then proceeded to ignore us (we had been there long enough to have picked what we wanted already), mouths on fire from the salsa and still no server to take drink or food orders we decided to leave. This, unfortunately, was just average Mexican food. While we had great service everything else about the experience was pretty lackluster. The decor was a little substandard, and not just in aesthetic. The table we ate was all worn down, as was the booth seat. The food lacked seasoning and was bland. However, I would get the chili rellenos again as they were delicious, and the salsa and slaw served with the chips was wonderful. I don't think we'll be back here as there is too much to explore in Idaho Springs!

This is a. Awesome spot to stop on the way to Breck. Homemade tortillas and jalapeño cooked steak strips washed down with their own homemade tequila make this and authentic Mexican treat. The bathroom is a one holder so it's even more like Mexico.

After a grueling hike up and down St Mary's Glacier we were looking for some food to fill our growling tummy's. Driving through this little town we found Azteca Mexican and were sold. It's seat yourself inside, not that we could tell but the woman sort of looked our direction and motioned us to sit anywhere. Chips, salsa and a cabbage slaw came quickly to the table. Warm chips and spicy salsa always keeps me happy. The cabbage slaw was certainly unique, I liked the salsa the better. We grabbed a couple menu's and sat in a booth. The menu itself is ginormous, pages and pages of Mexican food. We decided on a bowl of the Tortilla Soup and the Azteca Burrito to share. The soup at $7 was super large. Piled full with chicken, avocado, veggies, and tortilla strips. Yummyness was had with ever bite. The burrito was huge, I don't recommend this for one person. Rice. beans, chicken, cheese, onions, sour cream and guacamole, everything one could want in the burrito. All together we spent $17 not including tip for a fully satisfying Mexican lunch. If you're in the area I highly recommend this a lunch destination.

Service was excellent as always. The Pico de gaio is the best i've had and chips are always fresh. Always a great place to go after a good day hiking in the mountains. I got the 2 burritos and was absolutely stuffed after barely being able to finish everything. Fiancée got chicken enchilada with a tamale and I tasted both and were very delicious. Always a good choice when in the area and never disappointing. Oh ya the house Margarita was good but a tad on the weak side, would have been perfect with an extra shot (I like mine strong).

Finally, great Mexican food in Idaho Springs. The standard fare, is standard fare - if you want something really good get anything off of the specialty menu. Tres Caballos is my favorite, but you really cannot go wrong with anything off of the specialties menu. The Carne Asada, Steak Chicano, Carne al Tampequana (or however you spell it) and Fajitas are all outstanding. Tres Chiludos is amazing - like nothing you've had anywhere else. I eat at a lot of mexican places down in Denver taking clients out to lunch, and they all make me want to have dinner at Azteca - the real deal is right here in Idaho Springs. A couple of other things. The Handmade Margarita is delicious! Really flavorful and fruity - it's the first time i have really enjoyed a margarita. Give it a try. And the staff - they are always extremely friendly and the service is great. If i had three thumbs, they'd all be up for Azteca.

Passing through from MO, we decided to check out Mt Evans. Getting back on the road we checked out this Mexican place. Other places up the street had long waits out the door. The cabbage salsa was so good, I ignored the slooooow service and I was sure that our burritos, carne asada, and chile relleno would be tasty. Not so. Bland beans. Bland rice. Droopy relleno. This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant! My brother lives in Idaho Springs, and I try to go here every time I come and visit him. The salsa they serve when you sit down, is made in-house and is delicious. But they also serve you a cabbage salsa, and it is awesome! I've eaten many items off their menu and don't really know what to recommend, but I have NEVER been disappointed with the food. The young owner and his wife are always in the restaurant working, and they and all of their staff are very friendly!

This was pretty amazing food. Steak and chicken very tender. Salsa is incredible but guacamole is about the worst I've ever had. Aside from the guacamole which was removed from the bill without issue this was amazing food. Don't pass it up. If I were local I would eat here frequently, despite the guac which could have been an isolated bad experience. Margaritas are very good as well.

Excellent food and delicious margheritas. Every single time - has not missed once. What a treat (and a relief) to have such a consistently delicious, friendly, immaculate place to frequent in Idaho Springs. Warm chips, nice salsa, really tasty slaw arrive at the table immediately and are always offered to be refilled. Great crispy rellenos, very special mole, very good tamales and anything off the Specialties menus is a sure thing. My favorite Mexican restaurant without a doubt.

Some of the best Mexican cuisine I have had in the mountain towns. Our waiter recommended the Steak Chicano (mucho caliente) and it was very tasty and super hot. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Our visit was on a Tueday afternoon and the restaurant was not busy at all. Finished it all off with a coffee and fried ice cream. Great dining experience! I would highly recommend and will eat here again.

I have Eaten there twice now and have had nothing but bad experiences. I ordered the sirloin burrito (supposedly made with their best stake) It was awful!!! The meat was so tough I could barely chew it. I had an entire green pepper unsliced stuffed inside the burrito. I against my better judjement went back and had just as bad of an experience. Terrible food, terrible service and overpriced. I will not be back.
