HOLY GUACAMOLE! This place hit the spot completely when the boyfriend and I were on the hunt for some neighborhood Mexican joints and this one didn't disappoint! Here goes: Star 1 = Service was fast, friendly and very helpful. When we had difficulty choosing some food on the menu, the server graciously told us her favorite dish and one that was the most unique...which we ordered :) Star 2 = The patio is the perfect spot to catch a sunset or soak up the warm sun. They even have a fountain! Star 3 = The food is to die for. I absolutely love mexican food and trying new dishes. Our server suggested we try the carnitas in their taco trio and HOLY. it was outstanding, perfectly seasoned, cooked to perfection and was absolutely amazing! The chimi's were decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. The margs were fantastic and they even offer a 60oz margarita! wow! Star 4 = This location is super close to me and offers a neighborhood feel. Many of the patrons were treated like family and it seemed to be the local watering hole amongst friends! I knock one star off for prices. Being that mexican food is usually pretty cheap or decently priced, i was surprised to see our two dishes and margaritas were $50. yowza!! Next time, I think we'll split a meal :)

Unfortunately we have watched this place go down hill. Tonight was the worst meal we have ever had their. We felt so bad for the staff (who are always wonderful and friendly) that we didn't have the heart to tell them how bad it was. Everything tasted awful. Their margarita's are still wonderful. I hope they can make a come back with quality and care in their food. Until we hear different we won't be eating there.

Boring iteration of some week Mexican food. If you want like bland, forgettable, and nothing new... Then go here. Always remember, when searching for a good Mexican food don't go to a place that has fajitas as their flagship menu item.

I've had much better Mex food.

We finally found the Chile Con Queso we've been looking for and loved it! The lunch prices are reasonable. The Guac was a little bland but we mixed it with the salsa and were very happy. We will definitely be back for more!

I really love this place. Huge margaritas that are really good, chips and salsa with a good amount of spice to it. Friendly and prompt service. I always order something small since the margaritas fill me up. I got chicken quesadilla last time and it was perfection.

Green chili is wow! Ask for extra spicy. Blow. Your. Mind. Best green chili in town!

Wanted to try this restaurant since it is close to home plus they offer 1000 points on OpenTable. Went for dinner before going to the Mayan Exhibit at the Denver Nature and Science Museum. Were seated right away and were able to order $2 draft beer of Modelo Negro (great price during Happy Hour). Ordered the Burrito Supreme (carnitas) with everything on the side since I didn't know how spicy the green chili would be (it was just right for my taste. It was loaded with so much tender tasty meat and was delicious. Calina ordered the taco salad and it was good but she would have preferred a little more lettuce. To complete the meal, ordered the sopapillas and coffee. There were about five on the plate (enough to share) and were good. They have PBR Tall Boy Tuesdays for $2.50. Sign up to receive email special info. All in all, good food and good service for a reasonable price.

El Señor Sol is a cute restaurant with average food. The tamales are delicious, burritos not so much. The enchiladas are smothered in a red sauce and would be much better in green chili. The guacamole made table side lacks flavor and punch. It could use some tomatoes and a bit of heat, we poured lots of salsa in but it still was bland. Chile relleno was very good. Good service but a bit slow.

Good food, good drinks, great with my kids. I'm a big fan of their outside space.

El Senor Sol restaurant is okay. I didnt realize it was a chain..I like going to Mexican restaurants that aren't really chains. So it was your typical cookie cutter chain restaurant. I wasn't wowed, but i wasnt upset about it either. I had the cheese enchilada plate which was pretty good. My husband had his favorite mexican dish, carne asada. He was quite unimpressed sadly. The staff were friendly enough, and it was a nice relaxing atmosphere. Maybe we'll give it another go.

The only thing that saves this from a 2 star "Meh" rating is the pregnant burrito. That thing is so disgusting and delicious all at the same time, that it actually becomes craveable, and this is the only place I know that has them on their menu. (For the record it's a crispy chile relleno inside a bean and cheese burrito, smothered with green chile and more cheese.) The service here was so insanely slow for Mexican food I could hardly believe it. It took more than an hour and a half to get through lunch! We waited a very long time for our food, which was disappointing but at least it came out hot. They seemed to have enough servers, just maybe a backed up kitchen today? Otherwise, this place is mostly just meh with predictable food. I've never tried their margaritas, but based on other reviews probably won't. I met a friend here for lunch, and it's the first time I've been to an El Senor Sol in more than a year, so it'll likely be another year or so before the pregnant burrito craving hits again!

This place has quickly became me and my wife's go to Mexican place. Friendly staff, great salsa, fajitas are also top shelf! Looking forward to our next Friday outing after a long week for a margarita and some great great food. Oh yes fried ice cream is so good!! Can't wait to come back!

Wanted to try something new so we found this place. The food was marginal. The specialty margaritas were good. The fried ice cream was really good. The service was nice but incredibly slow. I found myself catching their attention as they walked by the doorway for small things like plates to share the appetizer. We were 1 of 3 tables in the place so it was not because they were too busy. We tried it because it was a 1,000 point table on OpenTable, and that's the only reason we'd go back.

Not a bad spot.....menudo is super meaty...chips and salsa are good and the margarita made me warm with tequila delight. I need a couple of more visits to recommend it.

A friend of mine came here for dinner the other night and mentioned that the green chili tasted normal again. We decided to go for lunch the next day (as I really wanted to give it a 2nd chance since I'm such a huge fan). So glad we did because it was as delicious as it always was. So happy!!! I still can't wait for my home location (university) to reopen. Really miss that spot and the fantastic employees!!!

He said: "Let's go out for happy hour." She said: "Let me see if I can get everyone together." He said: "Great, I'd love to see you all. It's been a while." One week later at El Senor Sol in the Tech Center... She appears, flying into the parking lot, in her zippy beh emm veh while I approach much more coolly in my own much more sober Teutonic sedan, vying for the same piece of real estate. We park. He said: "Good timing." She smiles as we trade hugs. We enter the restaurant, my first time here, and are greeted by the hostess immediately. We are the first to arrive from our group of eight and we breeze by the front desk to perform our usual reconnaissance mission of the colorful space. She said: "Should we sit on the patio?" He said: "It's a little hot outside." Official temperature, 97 degrees. Undeterred she proceeds to the patio and raises her eyes to the blue, cloudless sky. She said: "They have awnings, it will be fine." I remind her that certain members of our group might not be so amenable to the 'shaded' patio. She shrugs, eventually relents, and then proceeds to select a suitable table inside; it's an agreeable round which is large enough for the eight of us and quite conducive to lively conversation. The rest of the gang arrives, heartfelt greetings follow, air and actual kisses are traded, forceful handshakes and warm embraces are exchanged. Margaritas of all kinds and sizes are ordered. A lone beer is also requested. I opt for my usual Johnnie Walker. Spirited banter follows, laughter erupts as we leap from varied topic to topic, oblivious to our surroundings, our genial server, or the gathering crowd that fills up the rest of the bar area. It's happy hour. She said: "Shall we order food?" He said: "What's good here?" She said: "The Chile Relleno." We proceed to give our food order to our server whose accent is thicker than the guacamole appetizer we were destroying. Another scotch arrives; it goes down effortlessly and complements the fresh and flavorful guacamole which was prepared tableside and to our chosen spiciness. The food is delivered by an army of food runners. The auctioning begins; not my preferred procedure for service in a restaurant. As the plates are set down in front of us, I notice one constant: cheese. The plates of food are indistinguishable from one another. The melted substance not only covers the burritos, rellenos, and enchiladas, it takes the word 'smothered' to a whole new level. I begin to wonder if I got what I ordered, or if it even matters. My Pregnant Burrito is wrapped around beans and a Chile Relleno. It not only has a liberal amount of the previously cited cheese atop, but within as well; an abundant amount of green Chile is also 'smothered' rather than added to the burrito. There are dollops of both guacamole and sour cream to the side. I clear as much of the cheese as I can and try to not to allow the excess to slide off the plate and onto the table. I dig in. To my surprise the flavors are agreeable and satisfying. I await commentary from the rest of the table about their chosen entrees, none is volunteered. Instead the conversation resumes in earnest as well as the laughter. We finish our meals and continue enjoying one another's company. We lose track of the time and it is time to leave. He said: "When is our next outing?" We each fumble for our mobile devices to check our calendars; a date is agreed upon. She said: "It was wonderful seeing everyone!" He said: "Me too! It was fun." Goodbyes all around, more kisses, handshakes and embraces are exchanged.

Their margaritas are strong and half priced during happy hour. It's your typical Mexican restaurant. Their prices are reasonable and the food is decent. Their margaritas get 4 stars, everything else gets about a 2 1/2. The server was prompt and attentive and their salsa was very good.

    (3)
  • Allison M.

Food is okay, but their prices are expensive and it's silly to charge those prices and then charge for a side of chips. Ordered nachos and there were only about four chips in the box, and about a scoop of nacho glop. Not worth $14

  • Karoline M.

The food is good. The service is good. The bar is a fun atmosphere. It is a very casual grab a bite place more than a meet for fancy dinner place, but it does make a nice neighborhood bar. They get to know you very fast.

My wife and I have been here several times in the past, and got decent food/service but last night? Wow! The service was so terrible, I can honestly say we will never be back. I know it was New Years Eve, but they weren't that busy... maybe 8-10 tables. They were obviously understaffed, but the attitude of the wait-staff was terrible. I would have been ok with "we're running behind" but not rude. There are way too many great Mexican restaurants in this area. Sorry... we won't be back.

Grande Margaritas are so delicious, 32oz. for $12.99 is a deal. Posole, Steak Burrito and salsa were all outstanding! 1000 points on Open Table Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday is a huge incentive. Service was okay the buser (guy that brought drinks & chips) was actually friendlier and more attentive than our waiter. Typical bright colors and warm southwest decor. Offers a decent bar area with HDTVs. Definately going back!

I've eaten at other señor sol locations before and was excited to find this location closer to home. Unfortunately, my lunch today was very disappointing. Queso was cool & lumpy, chips stale. My combo platter had a chicken taco that I didn't finish because the chicken looked under cooked and my tostada beans were cold. My friend's chile relleno was dripping with grease. Won't be going back to this location again.

My mother was driving me from DIA to Salida, and we decided to stop in the area to hit a proper liquor store and get some dinner. Anyway, I spied El Senor, and said "Let's stop there - it's Mexican, and that's what I want." I usually try to check Yelp reviews, but sometimes I just wing it. I'm glad my impulses took me here - the food was pretty darn tasty. (I was starving and I live in the Pacific NW where I can't get good Tex-Mex, so my standards were meh.) At any rate, my food totally hit the spot in it's cheesy gooeyness. The sangria margarita was okay, but it is never as good as I think it will be. I can never remember that I like sangria and I like margaritas, but I don't like the two combined. (I have the same issue with strawberrie and bananas, but I don't like the two combined.) Service was fine - a bit slow when it was time to order (but with an apology), very fast when it was time to pay. I'd rather that than the reverse. All in all, I think I'll be back the next time I wander to the area.

I am so glad a good Mexican place opened up near me! I used to have to plan a couple of hours out of my day for food like this, or settle for chain restaurants that taste like TV dinners. I had first tried El Senor Sol in Lakewood with my sister, who loves it, and now there is one that I can walk to! They have excellent margaritas, ones that are made with lime juice instead of sweet and sour mix. The salsa has a nice flavor to it, and a slight bite, and the food is just how I like it. I love the shredded beef, and the chili rellenoes do the trick as well. The last time I came I tried the chicken burrito, and was not disappointed. My one critique is that the green chili should be spicier, or come in a "no wimps" variety, but it's still good. The service has always been good, I usually sit at the bar unless I come with other people, but either way it's been prompt and friendly. This is one of the better places in my 'hood to chow.

The Carnitas dish is hit and miss in the 3-4 times I have been here for office lunches. Everything else was just ok! It's one of those places that you tried once and move on. The office mob come here for the happy hours. I think I ll skip the next one.

I went here during my lunch hour today, and I will NOT be returning. A. There were flies everywhere and they would NOT leave us alone. B. The service was INCREDIBLY slow, we had to actually get up and ASK our server for our check. C. The food & the price. I ordered chicken fajitas, a soda and we split the guacamole and it ended up being $25! For lunch? Are you kidding me? There was MAYBE 1/2 of a chicken breast cut up into tiny chunks on my fajita plate and about 2 1/2 bell peppers and onions. Overall, this is not a place that I will frequent. For very basic Mexican food, you should NOT be charging this much.

Due to the lack of Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, I've given this place 3 tries since I moved into the neighborhood, but unfortunately it's disappointed every single time. The first visit, I went in the afternoon to enjoy the sun and a few drinks and was harassed by 4 different bussers/servers to place the food order all within 5-7 minutes. I had to repeatedly tell each person that I wanted to enjoy my drink first before placing my order and that I would let them know when I'm ready, but nonetheless they kept on persisting. That aggressiveness from the staff is something experienced on every visit. It seems that they only care about turning the tables quickly because even after I place my food order they're on top of you just rushing the experience. On top of that, food is mediocre. Wait, I'm lying, their chips and salsa are pretty good and so are the margaritas...but how can you mess those two things up!

    (1)
  • Anita S.

I adored the swift and courteous service. The salsa for chips was spiced well. Probably due to location, the prices were a little higher than I would have expected. The green chili that items are smothered had a great flavor and the right consistency. I thought refried beans were not all that difficult but the flavor was bland. I usually an not a "salter" but made an exception in this case. I'd try another go at this location and actually have carne asada or my favorite: Stuffed Sopapilla. Update likely....stay tuned!

  • Mr. F.

Absolutely the worst service possible. On New Years Eve no less. Manager not on premises. Short-staffed. Food ok but not for all 9 of us. This place has fallen so far so fast it is now on my "never again" list. It used to be my "go to" place.

    (1)
  • Phil K.

Nothing too special here. The place was relatively empty and though the servers were friendly, not the most attentive. Food was ordinary, ordered the chile verde plate, very little pork, mainly rice and beans. Tortillas were either stale or overheated. Margarita was watered down, could barely detect the tequila. Gonna have to pass on this place.

  • Pax T.

My first visit will be my last visit. Service was slow and bad. When asked if I wanted a refill on my coke, which was 3/4 full, I said no and she took my cup...Seafood enchiladas made with shrimp so tiny I needed my glasses to make sure that's what I was eating! All around horrible...

I was out picking up lunch the other day and saw the Grand Opening sign. So I decided to check it out today. I am always excited to see a Mexican Restaurants as I am still on the hunt for a great mexican food in the Denver area. I thought the interior looked really nice and festive with the mexican theme and bright colors. However, it was a little dark as it looked as if they had the main overhead lights out--no big deal. I look over the menu which I thought was a nicely layed out menu, great pictures, not overly big and easy to read and find what you are looking for. I decided to order a quesadilla (meal not appetizer). I wanted to order the beef (steak is $1.99 more). Well the person could not find the beef button on the computer screen, so I said just go with the steak as I was in a hurry. So she rings me up and I ask if this will come with chips and salsa and she says for a $1.79. I tried to politely explain that most places give chips and salsa on take out orders from what I have experienced. I also said, and besides your menu states that "First serving is complimentary" and then it is $1.79. (I see that alot, but I find most restaurants don't charge the fee if you are eating and drinking.........my take was that was there for someone who comes in and orders a water and wants free chips) This is also weird to me as restaurants in Texas do not charge for chips and salsa, but I see it a lot her in CO. So she is like, I don't really know, let me ask. So she goes off to ask someone (manager perhaps) and she comes back and says that they will give me chips and salsa this one time only. Jeez, thanks!! The free chips and salsa are for "dine in customers only". Well if that is the case, they should clearly define that on the menu. So I go back to work with me quesadilla and "one-time only" chips and salsa. I will say that it is some of the better salsa I have found in Colorado. Chips were average, bulk style chips from Sysco or something. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with my $9.17 quesadilla. It was pretty small (about half the size I was expecting). It came with rice, bean, and a small dolop of sour cream and guacamole. It tasted good, but for an entree portion I thought it should have been bigger for $9! So, the take-away for me is they are stingy with the chips and salsa and the quesadilla should be bigger. (Get the appetizer one for $6.00. Not sure I would rush back but I would check it out again to see how their other dishes stack up.

Courteous staff, decent decor, very marginal food. No lunch menu, so pricing for lunch is a bit steep, though it's dinner quantity. There are many options to spend the same money for much better Mexican food, so I won't be coming back here.

  • Carla C.

Wow, the table side guacamole made on the spot is amazing! I ordered the tacos al pastor and the portions are huge and delicious. Everyone at my table thoroughly enjoyed the fajitas, steak burrito, and enchiladas suizas...real Mexican food! Also, the service is top notch! Yum, yum!

The colorful atmosphere and amazingly friendly service was the first thing I enjoyed. I had the chicken burrito and my lunch date had the shredded beef burrito. Food was great but the green chili could be a notch spicier. Also noticed on the menu that the first order of chips and salsa were complimentary but cost $1.79 for any subsequent orders -- we didn't order a second round although the server asked us several times. Based on the casual demeanor in which we were asked, I have a feeling we wouldn't have been charged if we had an additional order, but it was an interesting menu observation. Tecate in cans, fast and extremely friendly service, and honey drizzled sopapillas (fast!) made it a Friday lunch spot to visit again soon. Affordable, fast and tasty! And the salsa has a true Mexican kick! The women behind us were drinking 32 oz. margaritas and I'll definitely head back for one on a Friday afternoon. Great addition to DTC lunch!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
