You would think somewhere I eat a few times a month would warrant at least a 4 star review. After all, why continue to go somewhere if it's just average? Well, the reason is what is good about this place is good, and that's it. Nothing exceptional. First, the good. The food is so fast, we have a running joke that they must have mic'd up each table, so before you tell the waiter they already have the food going in the back. There is never a wait and they have good 2-1 happy hours. The food is fine. Nothing fantastic, but cheap and quick. On to the bad.. well obviously the food is just average so I guess that is the main reason for the 3 stars. I guess nothing is really bad, it's just old and outdated interior. So I guess that's not too bad. This review is terrible. El Parral is fine and average. You can only write so much about it... hilp!

What to say... Well, the food just isn't good. That's all there is to it. I have been probably four times. And each time I am unimpressed. For whatever reason, by husband keeps buying Groupons to go, so we go. I told him to stop buying the Groupons. Pretty much any other Mexican restaurant has better tasting food. Also, they serve super watered down drinks. Their margarita, a special for only $5.50 (really, that's your sale price?) was mostly margarita mix, little to no alcohol. Positives (and the reasons they didn't get only one star): Free chips Good service - probably because the place is always deserted

If you are searching for delicious Mexican food in Lone Tree/South Denver, El Parral is fantastic. The chili rellenos and tamales always have a different level of spice - you know it's actually homemade when it tastes different each week with a new batch of chilies. There are regular Groupons for El Parrel as well which is also nice and Marnie is a fantastic waitress! Note: El Tapatio in the same parking lot is horrible. We ate there once because El Parral was closed on a Sunday. Queso cheese in the relleno and cold food. El Parral is far superior!

I feel so bad for this El Parral... it seems like the El Tapatio restaurant right next door is choking the life out of them! Not only is its competitor much more visible from the street, but there are hostile-looking "El Tapatio parking only - violators will be towed" signs taking up most of the shared parking lot. I hope they find a way to fight it out, because El Parral is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Denver. Their green chili is flavorful and has just the right amount of kick and they have the best Mexican steak I've ever had. Prices are very reasonable and service is always quick. It's not much to look at, honestly, but if you go to El Parral with a "greasy spoon" mindset, you'll be fine.

This has been a family favorite for about 20 years. They have the best green chile I've had in Colorado and their food beats out the Mexican place that opened across the parking lot from it on any day! This is a must try if you are a local who has never been or from out of town and enjoy Mexican food.

Faster than Speedy Gonzalez!!!!! I have been here SO MANY TIMES on lunch during work because I have never, EVER waited more than five minutes for my takeout to be ready. The term freaky fast must have originated at El Parral. Excellent, EXCELLENT food too!! I would never bother going anywhere else for mexican food in Centennial. There's no reason to. I give this place 5 stars because they are the best in town!! The food is consistent, which is always very tasty. You can order mild, medium, hot and very hot sauces. The service is always friendly and helpful. The food is served quickly and the prices are very inexpensive. All around the only place to go to have the best!

I had lunch here yesterday and my vote would be pretty average. In fact I have eaten here a few times and they have all been average. Not terrible and not great. The food is decent and service was fine. Just nothing to make it stand out from other Mexican food restaurants.

I've always been a fan of El Parral. My mother used to work at their first location many many years ago. Anyway, Steak nachos have always been one of my faves. Carne asada, camarones rellenos, and regular rellenos, and the beans man! Soo yummy!

I've been here a couple of times and though I haven't had the opportunity to explore the menu because I would order the Mexican cheeseburger. It's quite good actually. Just simply their rendition of a cheeseburger but instead of buns they substitute it with tortillas with a Latin spin to it. Not too bad if I do say so myself.

My parents have been taking me here since I was a kid and I still think they have the best bean burritos in Colorado! The service is always great, the food is tasty, there are plenty of vegetarian options, and it is very inexpensive. It makes me sad to see that business has been slowing down for them lately, I don't ever want them to go out of business since they consistently make good food and provide great service!

Worst "Mexican" food we've ever had. The beef tacos were exactly like the taco bell tacos w/out the sour cream. In Chicago when we order a beef taco from a Mexican place it's in a soft tortilla and it's carne asada not ground beef. The tostada was topped with American shredded cheese. Very disappointed. If I could I'd give it a negative 3 star review.

I've been going to this fabulous local Mexican restaurant for most of my life. It boasts an incredibly helpful staff, unbelievably fast service, and excellent menu. My husband is partial to the carnitas while the chili rellenos are my go-to order. That being said I have not yet found something we did not enjoy. Please stop in and support this local gem!

I had a taco and tostada for lunch for $7.99. It was something I could have made myself and the salsa was not that good. Very plain. It was overpriced and El Tapatio is right next door for less.

I'd been here before for lunch and it was quick, reasonably priced, and good tasting. Last night my parents and I stopped in for dinner around 8 or so and it wasn't too busy. Fast and friendly service and our food tasted pretty good. They start you off w/ a small basket of chips (you get charged for extra chips after that) and cold beers. It is a Tex-Mex "style" of Mexican food and is "somewhat" authentic (according to my Mom who is a Texan and grew up cooking this kind of food). Still though, we enjoyed our food and agreed that "almost 3 1/2" stars is appropriate. Steak Mexicana was great. It is typical Mexican style of thin sliced sirloin grilled and topped w/ grilled onions, green chile's and a green chile sauce that was supposed to be hot, but wasn't. Delicious overall, however. Combinations with enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc. are unexciting and standard fare. The carnitas were fantastic and you got a lot of food on that plate! Everything is $9.95 with exception of a few steak & seafood items in the $13 - $17 range. The decor is somewhat dated and the place could definitely use a little sprucing up (inside & outside) but it worked for us. BTW, if you have someone in your party who speaks good Spanish, have them practice it here. It can improve the service & experience immensely!

This Mexican restaurant is close to the DTC area and my coworkers and I go to eat dinner here on our breaks once in a while. It is your average Mexican food, there is not a lot of spice, just Mexican food. They also serve American food here like hamburgers. I am not a huge fan, I actually think that Qdoba is better most of the time and healthier. One good point is that they are fast when they seat and serve the food.

This could have been three stars if I hadn't sampled my husband's beef and bean burrito. Nasty. Probably the most hum-drum burrito I have ever had. The tortilla itself was gummy, not too mention the bland stuffing. I needed to douse it with salsa Why the consideration of three stars? My dish was dee-lish. Not stellar, mind you, but satisfying. It was the carne adobada and the portion and price were acceptable as well, and it had a nice flavor. My friend likes this place, and I won't refuse to go, but I'll stick to the "specialty" section of the menu. Nice friendly staff could almost give it a half more star.

I've definitely had better - I would actually give them 2 1/2 starts. Service was good but the place was mostly empty - so the expectation that service should be good. Is this a sign of what is to come or it could have been that it was 4:45 on a Sunday night. Who knows. I had three people in my party and we all opted to order the fajitas. The waitress started bring out lots of plates for the fajitas fixing and asked if we wanted to move to a larger table. We said yes - and boy are we glad that we did - the plates just kept coming and coming and then the sizzling cast iron skillets arrived. It was a great suggestion as it would have been a lot cramped had we stayed at the last table. They didn't skimp on the sides - sour cream, beans, guac, pico, cheese and lettuce. I asked for extra lettuce and they brought without an extra charge. So many other restaurants would have added an extra charge. The guac was better than most and the portion of cheese was very generous. The fajitas themselves were just okay. They added some sort of sauce to them - perhaps enchilada sauce or something - I couldn't really break it down. It wasn't good and it wasn't bad, just okay, but they could have left this off entirely and it would have been better - perhaps it was to hide the items on the plate. While they are generous with the side there were not enough onions and peppers. I had ordered the chicken which was okay and much better than the beef. The menu said it was beef instead of steak and I believe that they used a lower cut of meat and it was exactly that beef and not steak. It was a little overcooked making it chewy and tough. Suggestion - use a better cut of meat, season it, don't use the sauce - keep it fresh and use fresh seasonings and hit it with a bit of lime juice at the end - so much better. But then again this is the way that I like them, so it's only a matter of preference.

I've been going to the El Parral restaurants since I was 7 years old - I am currently 32 now. To this date, they have the absolute best beans and green chili I have ever tried! The service is fast and friendly and the place is clean. I cannot recommend this place enough and hope that everyone will give it a try. Happy eating! :0)

I went here with a group (and a groupon) and we all had the fajitas. The table salsa and chips were decent. The service was just fine. The prices on the menu appeared reasonable. However, the food was just adequate. The chicken in the fajitas was moist and had good flavor. The beef was tough, chewy, and had been cooked until it had a "livery" taste to it (if you know what I mean). The peppers and onions were okay. This was all served with largish flour tortillas and small sides of pico de gallo, refried beans, sour cream, and guacamole. All of these tasted pretty good. At our request, they also brought us cheese and lettuce (at no extra charge). My main complaint would be the heavy sauce with which they had very generously coated the fajitas. It may have been enchilada sauce, but it came across like Mexican brown gravy, and did not have a lot of flavor. It turned the eating experience into a bit of a soupy mess.

Let me just say I used a $10 groupon for $20 of food and I have never left a restaurant feeling less satisfied or in so much pain... I have eaten Mexican food all over the place; in Missouri, Virginia, Detroit, California, Seattle, Ohio, Pennsylvania.. I have never experienced mexican food this bad. You would be better off going to Taco Bell or del taco than here. Their chips are really thick, hard and cold, the deep yellow ones that are worse than what you'd buy at a grocery store. Their salsa is horrible, enough said, but you can't eat salsa without chips and the chips are very, very BAD. I ordered the gold margarita and there was so much margarita mix that my stomach started hurting within 5 minutes, by the time I got home I was crying, and I drink margaritas a lot. This wasn't a margarita... But it was better than the food... I got a chile relleno and it looked like a small egg roll on the outside. On the inside it was a really thick pepper with a piece of string cheese melted in the center like from a microwave, it wasn't even fully melted. I took one bite and couldn't eat any more. So, I ate 1 chip with salsa, 1 bite of relleno and had a margarita and I spent $30, went home and had a stomach ache for hours even though I was also hungry.

(Sigh). I continue my quest for great Mexican food. THIS I know, as I had experienced some WONDERFUL Mexican places while living in Southern Ca. I came here and ordered a grilled chicken burrito and chips and salsa. To Go. VERY FRIENDLY hostess when I walked in. Rather large place on the inside, doesn't look so big from the outside. My burrito was smothered in cheese and lettuce and luckily i had sour cream in my fridge. It was tasteless. I tried some chips and salsa and it was ok. SOOOO in order to flavor up my burrito I cut it up, doused it with sour cream, and added the salsa to it. Um, NO. It literally took less than 5 minutes for my food to come out .. and that should have warned me.... it just wasn't fresh..... Not sure if I'll give this another chance.

When you come from Chicago you have to have Mexican food. It was 9pm and not in the mood to go too far. Ended up here and the food was Pretty good. A number 5 and beef soft tacos and pork soft tacos. I willl refer them to soft tacos but they don't go by that. We had 1 sopapilla And they made 3 little ones for us. Very nice and the honey was thick and yummy. It's not too expensive and the service is good.

Being in the Denver area for the first time ever, and alone to boot, I was in much need of some comfort food. Hey, I live in AZ and was raised on my Grandma's New Mexico-style Mexican food. When in need, a nice spicy relleno can cure any case of homesickness. I should have listened to the less-than-stellar reviews of fellow Yelpers. The only reason this place gets two stars instead of one was because of the service and the fact that it was very clean inside. My waiter was friendly and efficient and had my entree out before I had a chance to eat five chips, which was a blessing because the chips were cold and tasted weird. Definitely NOT authentic. I should have realized, though, that if it took less than 10 minutes to bring out my entree, it probably wasn't going to be good. Another telling sign that the food wasn't going to be good was the fact that it didn't smell like any actual cooking was going on. When you go to a restaurant, you want to be greeted at the door by the smells of what they are doing in the kitchen. I'm used to smelling yummy fried things and savory, spicy things in Mexican restaurants. No yummy smells here! The waiter kept calling me Senora. I would have preferred Senorita to stroke my ego, but I guess I am old enough to be a Senora now. Dammit! Anyway back to the food...I ordered the #3 combo which included a chicken enchilada, smothered burro, and relleno. I also ordered a house margarita. The waiter asked if I wanted hot, mild, or combination chili. I asked for hot. The chicken in the enchilada and burro was dry and salty, the green chili on top was also extremely salty and had absolutely ZERO heat and even less flavor. Ketchup is spicier than what they brought me! At the very least they could have smothered the slop in cheese, but there was barely any cheese to be seen. It seemed like the food had been prepared the day before and was reheated. My food went completely cold in about 5 seconds. Even my precious little relleno, which held so much promise of easing my homesickness, was bland and cold in the center like it had been frozen. I looked around to see other patrons enjoying their food. A large party arrived looking excited as I was getting ready to leave. Poor dears, I don't think any of them know what good Mexican food tastes like. If they did, they wouldn't be at El Parral! The only good thing about my meal was the margarita which was strong and didn't taste like it came out of a pre-mixed bottle. I almost ordered two more, just to drown the memory of that horrible mess in tequila. Alas, they deserve not a single penny more of my money. Would I go there again? I'd rather eat glass. Would I recommend the place to you? Only if I don't like you. Then again, the waiter was nice....

Wow people are harsh! Was it the best tex mex I have never had, no, was it A-OK? Yes! I got the cheese enchilada and chili relleno, yum! My margarita was good, but am pretty sure it was premade...and of course when I go out for mexican I have to get Fried Ice cream...this was the true disappointment, they put disgusting frozen strawberries on it...yuck! Service was very attentive, I would give them a go again!

This was a below average tex-mex style beanery. It is easy in Denver to find someplace better. The chips tasted like they were fried in dirty oil that was bordering on rancid. My wife's tacos looked like they came from Taco Bell. My carne asada was better and made from a decent but very thin rib steak (not at all authentic for this dish) but was pretty uninspired. I will never again spend money in this restaurant.

Why I love it. 1. The food is good Tex-Mex at very good prices. 2. The service is amazing. I love to sit and watch the staff (I call them the "well-oiled machine") go about their work. 3. Friendly staff. We have been going here for over a decade. We always get the smothered burrito for under $5 and a diet Coke. It is a great bargain.

I've only been here once, for lunch. I found this place to have very good Tex-Mex food for the price. Very affordable! The place honestly doesn't look like much from the outside (imagine a Waffle House with a red and green sign on it), but what's lacking in aesthetics is made up for in taste.

Oh my, how things have gone down hill here in the last year or so. After a very disappointing dinner here in September, which I refrained for Yelping about because I thought perhaps it was an off night, the experience I had last night has ensured I will never return. My boyfriend and I went in for Cinco de Mayo. We were promptly seated, ordered our drinks and got them quickly. Then we waited for at least 20 minutes to order our food. It became apparent that they were understaffed. A Mexican restaurant understaffed on Cinco de Mayo? Unbelievable. When we finally did order, our food came out in a regular amount of time. But the waitress forgot my sour cream and ran away before I could ask for it. I cut into my burrito and found that it was a bean burrito, not beef and bean, which I had ordered. It took me 10 minutes to flag her down and send it back. 10 minutes later the burrito comes back, missing lettuce, which I had ordered and would be expected to pay for. I cut into this burrito... it's rice and beans. At this point, I'm just so over it. When I finally wave down the manager looking guy, I tell him the situation, and that I'm no longer hungry. He says they will remove my burrito from the check, but rather than insisting on wrapping up the correct burrito, which they will cook quickly, or offering us complimentary dessert, he leaves. Meanwhile, at the next table, we overhear a couple ordering margaritas and being told that they've run out of them. At 7pm on Cinco de Mayo. Talk about not planning ahead, terrible customer service and waitstaff and managers who just don't care.
