Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Service was laughable in that it took far too long to get a seat, food took far too long to come out and was lukewarm when it finally did. We had to continuously flag down the waitress for refills of water and chips. The food was subpar. I have never eaten at a Mexican restaurant where the food was watery and bland. All the employees were friendly and polite, but that does not off-set the overall terrible quality of the establishment. It really is a shame too, as this place is a short walking distance away and has the potential for being a fun night out if they get things in order.

Really dissapointed with this place. Too bad because it is a great looking restaurant and great atmosphere. Pretty good chips and salsa, cold beers nad a good margarita but thats where the kudos stop. The food needs a major overhaul ! Very inconsistent and bland !

The food was bland. The drinks were so-so. The waitress's friendly and apologetic manner could not make up for her inattentiveness.

The food was not good at all. I ordered a strawberry margarita and it tasted like cough syrup, so I sent it back. When I got the ticket, the wrong drink had been rung so I showed the manager, just so she would know and she gave me a lot of attitude and insisted that her bartender had, in fact, made a strawberry margarita. Halfway through the meal we got a new server with no explanation. He was great, but it was confusing. Our original server had acted as if we were troubling her just by sitting down. I really wanted to like this place and I really wanted to give them a second try, but after the manager treated me the way she did I will not go back.

Took my wife and son for dinner and was pleased with the friendly service. The vegetarian poblano rellenos and cabbage envueltas were very good, and I especially liked the cream of poblano soup. My son had the molcajete mexicana which was a bit disappointing as the chicken and beef were pretty dry, not to mention the $15 price tag seemed a bit much. The house margs were big but not very flavorful, but it was two for one night so no biggie. Overall a good experience.

Over all La Mariposa was OK. Hate to say it but the food was just so-so. Noticing that there is about a thousand other better Mexican places in this town i would recommend somewhere else.

Ok, soo i am giving this a 3 star for a couple reasons 1. its brand new and the service is going to be a little scrambled. I have worked in a new restaurant and when everyone is starting for the first time all at once it can be a mess. 2. We have an abundance of Mexican food in this city.. if you live here you know that.. I will say its MUCH better than Coyotes. I had the chimichanga (shredded beef) and i will say it was one of the better ones i have had in this city. The chips and salsa was good and yes the margaritas were great! They have a ton of different flavors so its kind of exciting. I will say don't eat in the bar with a group of 4 when they're busy cause it got a little confusing who our waiter was and it took a while to order and get everything together and our margaritas took like 10 minutes and we were sitting right next to the bar.. But this being said they've only been open a short time so there are rush's especially on a Sunday. All of us who live in that area are stoked for new things like that and hopefully it will help out the Tavern cause that little center needs more business. So with this said, do give this restaurant a try just give it sometime to settle. Enjoy a margarita or 2 and instead of crashing it suggest things to them... maybe it will improve with your opinions.

We came here on a suggestion from a family member. We were very pleased with both the service and our meals. The kids meals are priced very well and if you go on Wed, they eat free. My wife and I had the fish tacos and they were amazing! I also had the chicken tortilla soup and was shocked when it came with avocados in it. It was fantastic. Our children shared the strawberries and cream dessert and it very good too. A wonderful evening in a great atmosphere with great food. We will be back soon!

I have never had to edit a review before. However, after several consecutive bad experiences, I feel my former positive review has become misleading. The service at La Mariposa has become increasingly worse. After repeated poor service while dining in, my husband and I decided to stop patronizing La Mariposa. Still, one night we went against our better judgement and ordered take-out. My husband placed his order in person but waited almost 45 minutes to receive any food. The young lady who took his order confessed that she forgot to send his order through at first (even though he was sitting in plain sight). He finally received what he assumed was our order and headed home. When we got home, the order was incorrect! He called and spoke with the manager who was pleasant and apologetic. He promised to refund the money charged to our credit card. He also said he would send a complimentary gift card in the mail. Well, it's been over two weeks since all of this happened and we have not received our refund or gift card! This has been the last straw. We will never be coming back to La Mariposa!

The honey chipotle sauce with the calamari were great -- actually it was probably the best thing I had in a while. The rest of the food was okay, I had the 20 inch burrito and was satisfied, the steak faitjas was seasons very well, the chicken faitjas was over seasoned with pepper, and the jalapeño poppers was lacking flavor. The biggest problem, is that the service was very slow. We've asked for water twice and still had to wait for it to come to our table.

I enjoy this restaurant and would like to downplay some of the old poor reviews. Make sure to try the strawberry and cream dessert, it's awesome!

T'was my second visit last night & I appreciated the improvement in the service & food. Witnessed a mojatete stew be served and knew that's what I'll splurge on with my next visit --- it smelled heavenly. Enrique is a consumate server. Just wish they'd get their website issues addressed.

Had a lovely evening. Everything from the chips n salsa to the drinks to the entrees to the fried ice cream...it was all delicious!

Very nice restaurant. We had a large group of high schoolers and reservations. They were extremely accommodating and nice. Food was very good, but could be a little spicy depending on the dish. Would go back.

We thought the food here was ok to good, but the service terribly lacking. We were the only ones in the restaurant on a Wednesday night, but you would never had known based on the absence of our waitress.

Amazing food, try the mocajete! The bar had a great friendly atmosphere! Crystal is amazing and say hello Alma at the bar, exceptional service!

When they first opened, we were excited to have a new restaurant in town and went right over to give it a try. We were not very impressed. All of the food AND margaritas were bland and not cheap either. We really wanted to like the place but is was mediocre at best :-/.

We love to eat here! The food is very good. Service is a little slower but we don't mind because the food is so good! Very friendly.

La Mariposa, only went here because we were in town for a wedding which happened to be at the amphitheater just outside. This is a beautiful restaurant, that reminds me of a Mimi's Cafe. The margarita list is quite possibly the largest I've ever seen, and the one that was suggested to my wife and I was pretty tasty. Here's where La Mariposa fails - badly. Their food... The Chips: a'ok Salsa: watery and terrible Jalapeno Poppers: good, but nothing special Nachos: What a joke! First off there wasn't many, but that's ok because they were total crap. Just a few chips with refried beans, a tiny bit of cheese, served with a big pile of shredded lettuce (?!) I wouldn't go to La Mariposa again unless someone else was buying.

Hmmm wonder what is happening. Love the restaurant. Always a go to for us. Walked in tonight to a 1/3 full restaurant and were told had a 20-25 min wait. Really?!

I went back recently with a group of friends so I thought an update was in order. And I'm so sad to report that our experience was almost identical! Once we got our food, our server essentially disappeared. She was there, because we saw her walking by, but she never came back. Once again we had to go track someone down to get our bill. I wonder if a lot of people dine and dash here.. because I'm not sure anyone would even notice! The food is passable, but this time the margarita wasn't even that good, so I don't think we'll be going back here.

Total disappointment. Walk thru the door and you would think this place will have some potential. Nice atmosphere, clean and family friendly. Service was sub-par. Known for top-notch margs, had better from a ready made liquor store bottle. My combination was pre made and just warmed up. Food was also comparable to the frozen section in the grocery store. Worst of all the prices were out the roof

I have no idea how the food tastes. We arrived at 8:30 pm on a Saturday. We were shown to our table, then forgotten. The staff didn't appear busy. We didn't get drinks or chips/salsa. After 15 minutes of "be right there!" from wait staff, we left. Generously giving one star for the building architecture.

I can't give any stars. Went with a friend for a margarita and a snack. We had fun here a few years ago for happy hour and this was a HUGE let down. 2pm place was totally empty and service non existent. We sat in the bar and the waiter/ bartender took forever to acknowledge us and then left the bar area when we asked for menus and water and didn't come back for quite some time with no water, we are in the bar dude, can't be that hard. When we ordered a marg he again left the bar and didn't come back for a while. When he did decide to come back and make them I knew we were in trouble when he broke out the 'notebook' to make them. Undrinkable. And I can drink anything. Sent them back, nachos sucked . Didn't take replacement margs, paid the nachos and left. Went across the way to the Tavern. Will never ever go back.
(1)Monica D.
This was the worst food and worst service ! I'll never go back!
(1)Jason D.
Meh... Slow service, expensive margs. I'll drive to the tip for a better dining experience. Tip to the owner: do your homework before opening a restaurant. There is a lot of competition in this town. Mediocre food and atmosphere won't cut it. I give you six months..
(2)Gary S.
My wife and I went on opening weekend, it was very busy and hectic. We decided to give it a second chance and decided to try the bar. The staff that works behind the bar (Chris, Heather and Phil) are awesome! They really made our second trip so much more enjoyable. We have gone back 3 times since and still have a great time with them! Give the bar a try and say hello to Chris and the gang!
