What an excellent evening. Three friends enjoyed appetizers, cocktails, entrees and dessert. Absolutely everything we had was outstanding. A pasta dish, a steak and a pork chop were all cooked to perfection. The dessert which was baked meringue covered in whipped cream and strawberries was a nice yummy finish. Chef Joel is amazing and the serving staff was exceptional. It's pricey but we all agreed it would be worth it to save up and have an outstanding meal rather than two mediocre ones. It will now be on our regular list.

This place is not all that it is cracked up to be. The decor is nice and the crowd is interesting but I can't help but wonder why it is so packed. I've been there about 4 times and the first couple of times I had the lamb burger which was pretty good. The fries are the best things on the menu. The food overall is blah and plain in my opinion and overpriced to add assault to injury! I don't think I will ever set foot in this place again and the only reason why I gave it an extra start is because of the fries and burger. Everything else I tried was disappointing.

Breakfast review only. My husband and I went here for breakfast and will never go again. There was a small selection but that's ok we like trying different foods. Very nice clean restaurant with great presentation. I ordered the goat Gouda omelet and my husband ordered the Farmers breakfast. We were both unhappy. The house potatoes were bland. They gave us a salad with it and it tasted horrible. Almost rotten and was brown. Coffee was horrible we could not even drink it. Waste of $30.

Very disappointed with the service where the order takers ( two of them) both were very pushy and unfriendly/arrogant. Your job is answering the questions about food (willingly) not trying to take orders as fast as possible and acting like the customer was dumb. It was not that busy at all at that time as I saw several tables were still available. I have been at the Kitchen in other locations and never experienced this. Surely, first time here at the Fort Collins one and last time...maybe for this restaurant. Admittedly, I somewhat agreed with the other comments that the foods here are kinda overpriced. However what I care more when dining out is if I have a great time or not. The food tastes were good honestly but NO MORE sorry. Not all servers sucked by the way. Some of them were nice and friendly. Just happened to be these two order takers i experienced. I got two guests with me from outside of CO and this kinda gave them bad impression about Foco restaurant experience. Sigh.

Amazing food, farm to table experience every day. Sit at the bar and ask Michael to order for you. I did a giggly happy dance in my seat for over an hour!

Oh Kitchen. I had SUCH high hopes for you! First, let me talk about the good stuff... Actually, the best stuff. Dessert! The toffee bread pudding is to DIE for. (Who ever invented that saying, anyway?!) It's warmth & gooeyness was a perfect combination with the vanilla ice cream. Just YUM. Another GREAT thing about the Kitchen is the atmosphere. It's beautiful and much like the restaurants you find in denver or other big cities. Now for the "ok" stuff... Pretty much everything else. The wine list was fine, but honestly, I barely recognized any of the wines. That says a LOT because I drink a LOT of wine. A lot. I ordered a petite Syrah and it was decent, but nothing memorable. The hazel dell mushroom risotto sounded much better than it actually was. I'm pretty sure I bit into a big chunk of salt with my first bite. Ew! The flavor was ok but just too salty for my liking. My dining companion ordered the cheese and meat board as a starter. For $18 I felt like it was obnoxiously overpriced. Now for the worst... Our waitress. She seemed beyond annoyed to be waiting on us. I don't get it. I felt like we were putting her out with each of our reasonable requests. (ie can we please have a few more minutes to review the menu?) At $150 for two girls to have a dinner out, we will skip dinner at the kitchen and just get the toffee cake. Seriously. The toffee cake.

My hair stylist recommended us this place and we went their for my wife's birthday. It was so delicious that me and my wife had every morsel of what we ordered. We will keep visiting !

Great experience here. The staff was super helpful, food was delicious. Reasonably priced for the quality. Interesting wine list.

We were visiting from out of town. What an amazing night. Service, service and more service! From the moment we walked in management and the servers were more than accommodating. We came during New West Fest, which is a huge music festival, and had hoped to sit outside. Management didn't have any two tops available so they sat us outside on one of their 4-6 seating tables. Courtney, our server, was amazing, she took great care of us and made some great recommendations. I would highly recommend this restaurant as their quality and taste of food is at the same level of their service.
(5)Geri D.
We had a WONDERFUL experience at The Kitchen on 7/18/15. Brunch was being served and we split both the challah French toast with caramel/pecan topping, and the crab benedict. The French toast is decadent and yummy. The crab benedict melts in your mouth. Both were so good we were exclaiming about it all through the meal. Our server was lovely and very helpful and cheerful. Kudos!!!

This was the second time there. Both of us ordered salads. First of all mine was almost uneatable. The dressing was horrible. The worst problem was there were fruit flys coming out of both of our salads. Turned my stomach. Will never go there again. The staff seem put out we didn't want another one. How could they not see their lettuce is full of fruit flys.

The good: service was friendly (although very scripted) and prompt, the food had excellent and subtly interesting yet familiar flavors (lamb and sturgeon meals), and the place is beautiful. It's definitely a fine dining atmosphere without being too stuffy.. The ho-hum: Short menu that isn't too exciting. We aren't itching to go back to try the other dishes and having two of them is nearly half of the main dish options. The value is not what I thought it would be. Servings are small. This would encourage guests to buy appetizers or other dishes to compensate for the small meal but we didn't want to spend more than $60 for two people. It would be nice if they at least served bread. We likely then would have felt more satisfied. The Kitchen is what it is: an expensive, small portion, quality ingredients and cooking kind of place that appeals to the least common denominator in palettes. This just isn't the kind of restaurant for me since it didn't seem to offer anything particularly innovative and I'm just not willing to pay that much for my meal out (except at Jax).
(3)D J.
Awesome menu for brunch! Love the variety and creativity with the options. Plus it's so nice you don't have to wait an hour just to be seated!
(4)Jessica N.
Delicious! Loved the tasting course menu. Forced us out of our typical comfort zone to try some new things and gave us some ideas on how to remix what we are cooking at home. Loved absolutely every single bite. We also enjoyed how that menu was served family style. Something more intimate about your spouse serving you each course. Fresh local seasonal fare. You can't really beat that sort of food culture. Staff were very attentive. Wine, beer, and cocktail menus are extensive. This is our new date night spot. Call ahead for a reservation and ask for one of the two seater tables by the window. Nom nom nom.
(5)Jon P.
Absolutely A++ restaurant. The environment, the lighting and the dishes were each cooked to perfection. Coming from a road trip living originally at New York City, I can say this competes with the best! One dish was served spicy which surprised my mother, but it almost converted her into a spicy food lover. Try the Garganelle, the Hand Made Gnocchi and the Spicy salad served with bleu cheese and pecans!
(5)Brendon C.
Good service with a cool decor. The food is farm to table and the sturgeon, chicken and lamb were all delicious. The cheese plate was also excellent. Good cocktails and dessert.
(5)Travis T.
Came here for a weekday lunch to avoid the crowds and it paid off. Service was outstanding and fast. Atmosphere is very enjoyable. Aside from our first appetizer, the food was fresh and very delicious. The chicken entree (wisdom farm chicken) and the buratta appetizer were excellent. The roasted beet salad with Salmon was generous and very good. We can not recommend the gougares appetizer. Although, light, it seemed very lacking in flavor. However, management comp'd the dish and replaced it. One hiccup in the service was we at first were given a dirty side dish, which we asked to be replaced. However, this shouldn't happen in this class of restaurant.
(5)Josie S.
The service was fantastic. Ambiance was decent, kind of loud and the table spacing was definitely too close (we could literally hear every word the couple said next to us-- their entire dramatic conversation). Food was ok. Not on par with the pricing. Salad was absolutely gross, fish was overcooked, portions were very small. Beer and wine selections were very underwhelming as well. I was actually taken aback by this.. I suggest a larger menu with more options, I almost couldn't even find anything I wanted to eat. I know this is against the "farm to table mantra", but I'm not talking about a huge menu, just more options. Food in Fort Collins is by far pretty mediocre, I was hoping "The Kitchen" would improve the situation. I guess I'll just be cooking at home as it's a much better outcome.
(3)Alisha L.
One of Fort Collins' best places to eat. Upon entering the restaurant, my friend and I were immediately seated. I was impressed to see the wait staff seated at a table while the chef taught them about the new food he was presenting. We had a friendly waitress (I forgot her name but she is a brunette) who was personable, prompt and knowledgeable of the menu. The food came out quickly and fresh. The salad was flavorful (even the greens had so much flavor themselves!) and my friend's burger was cooked to perfection. Do yourself a favor and order a dessert, all of them are delicious! I would encourage you to ignore the bad reviews of this restaurant as most of them are derived from a complete lack of understanding of how the service industry actually works. 1. They source as locally as possible. This is tremendous feat as sourcing from small farms/businesses in Fort Collins is very difficult (there are many restaurants and very few farms) and requires years of building relationships between farmers and restaurant owners. 2. Complaining about the price makes you look like a complete moron. They list the price next to each item so if you are unable to add, perhaps you should write a negative yelp review for your elementary school teacher who completely failed to instruct you on the basics of mathematics. 3. If you don't understand why the portions are small then you clearly don't care about quality products. Go ahead and get back into your giant diesel truck, get out of Fort Collins and go home to Wyoming. I've had Sam in the past as a server, she's excellent. Ask for her.

The kitchen is one of the nicer places in town for sure. I've been here 3 or 4 times now and have had inconsistent experiences. The first time I sat at the bar and had 4 courses and wine. The bartender was great but the timing of the food was way off. I just called it up to only being open for a short time. The main course, a porterhouse was great and had a nice presentation on a large cutting board. My second time eating at the kitchen I went for lunch and had table service. I ate hummus and a lamb burger which was all greet with amazing service. I came in the very next day and had some I the best mussels and garlic fries I've ever eaten. On a roll right? Well I came in on Easter with an out of town friend for brunch and waited an hour for our food...... Ugh. The manager and bartender were on it getting is some comp food while we waited and also took care of our first course. They get an A for taking care of us when there was a mix up ( very few place in town know how to do this) but just get it right the first time.

Judging by reviews, you are either going to love it or hate it. As for me, I do not fall in either category. Take my vote down for "Annoyed". Visited The Kitchen at 9pm, sat at the bar for a drink, and were promptly asked if we were having dinner. We let the bartender know that we were just having a drink, and we have already eaten and we just wanted to stop by. The bartender looked put out, as many people at the bar were eating, understandable I guess. We order our drinks, my wife an $18 glass of champagne, and the bartender walks away. A Second bartender asks if we are having dinner. We explain, just drinks, and that the previous bartender asked us just a minute ago, and was helping us. that was met with a second look of displeasure. We finished our drinks as fast as we could and left. Drinks were fine, bartenders pretty much ignored us the rest of the time we were there. I have heard lots of great things about the amazing things that the kitchen (actual inside kitchen) puts out. I don't think I'll be back. I just cant see myself paying the prices for what I saw some out.

Came here for dinner recently. Sat on the patio on a perfect summer's night. But you aren't reading this to hear about the weather. The wine list was extensive, and we got a bottle. Their mixed drinks are some of the best Ive ever had. For the food, the risotto and the bolognase were spot on. We tried the cheese board appetizer. A little pricy as far as cheese boards go ($17), but ultimately a great decision. The perfect date spot.

We're not much for "fancy" food, but we decided to check out The Kitchen anyway about a month after it opened. We love that most of their ingredients are locally sourced and organic. And it's in a great location to sit outside and enjoy downtown Fort Collins. We chuckled to ourselves looking at the menu as we didn't recognize at least one ingredient in almost every menu item. Regardless, we ordered a spiced nuts appetizer, tomato soup, and the prosciutto & burrata sandwich. Note: the lunch menu is abbreviated. All three were delicious, and the bowl of soup was quite large. Probably the best tomato soup I've ever had. The sandwich was also fantastic, and the mint wasn't too overpowering, which often I find is the case. I probably wouldn't choose it often myself unless I were feeling adventurous just due to the types of food I prefer, but this would be a great place for a nice meal out with family in town, a date, or a business lunch.

It just does not get any better in Fort Collins. We have enjoyed this restaurant many times since its opening. Every meal has been superb. Each staff member, servers, manager, bartenders , etc. have been excellent. Even the restrooms are the best. I would go nowhere else for a terrific experience.
(5)Justin V.
Expensive. Pretentious. Delicious. The mussels were fantastic, the staff was friendly, and our party of seven was seated immediately without a reservation on a Saturday night.

I've visited The Kitchen in Fort Collins 4 times in the past month. It's located right in old town...across from Austin's. I love the fact that most of their food, certainly most of their core ingredients, are from local farmers/sources. It also had a real hip, upscale ambiance, but you can definitely show up there casual...I mean in Fort Collins! There steaks, salads, and soups were consistently excellent....I also love there iced tea. I'll be back soon to and will post the necessary updates :) Sam

These people need to turn off Portlandia and just attempt to make some good food, because they're not fooling anyone with all the over-blown BS. This isn't gourmet food, it's just overpriced food. Really, really high priced for what you're actually receiving. I had the portobello sandwich, it was fine. Nothing special and I could definitely make it the same at home. Subbed my fries for roasted beets, which were nothing but old, dry beets. No flavor on them, other than a few small dollops of goat cheese (oil? Vinaigrette? Fresh herbs? Pepper? Garlic? Anything? C'mon guys, these are super bland). And they were dried out a.k.a. not fresh. Service was okay, if not a little inattentive - especially for the prices. I get that the whole "locally sourced and organic blah blah blah" is really popular. I love healthy food too. I just don't think a lunch sandwich should be $12-$15. And those were the cheaper options...

From the very beginning of our going here, we knew that this would become a staple for us. Each time we've gone (and we've gone a lot!), we've been welcomed as friends rather than guests, and partaken in a fantastic night, thanks to the fares and folks at The Kitchen. I've tried nearly everything on the menu (fresh!), with the exception of the fish because my taste-buds and the life aquatic have never agreed. Each time, I am impressed and satiated, and I feel like I've treated myself to a damn fine night out. The folks at the bar know their stuff and hold their own in a town where everyone seems to "know their stuff". Each pairing I've been suggested complimented my meal well, and enjoy the imaginative creations I receive from the simple direction of "Bourbon with lemon". As with any new and anticipated place, there will be some experiences that are less than par, for all included, I'll bet. Amazing what can happen to you if you are kind, patient, and enjoy human interaction as much as the food. I challenge the nay-sayers to revisit and VISIT. Spend some time talking with the staff of The Kitchen, whose motto seems to be "as you wish", I promise you'll never leave grumpy again. This is place for folks who are looking for fantastic offerings, relaxed and interactive atmosphere, and invested in community. Cheers!

Excellent!! My family and I tried several appetizers and main courses and loved each one. The apps were the grilled octopus, gnocchi, and tomato soup and all were great. The standout was the soup though. Simply great. Main course was the ribeye and pasta bologneze. All excellent. Service was top notch with knowledgable staff that were very engaging. We will definitely visit again when back in Ft. Collins.

My wife and I have been huge fans of the Kitchen, IN BOULDER. We have gone to it many times and have never had a complaint (up stairs or down). So we were excited to try them when they opened in the Fort. We went two Mondays ago as of writing this. We were seated immediately and ordered drinks. The drinks were horrible. They were the most unbalanced sweet tasting things ever. They were not crafted and should have came in coconuts with umbrellas they were so bad. Shocked by the drinks we got hesitant and ordered some appetizers. That is what we do when we are not sure about dinning in a place. This way we can see how things taste and are presented. They were OK, not great but not bad, so we got more brave and decided to do dinner. We are not frugal especially when we are out on a date night seeking an experience but we felt the prices were steep for the lack of quality. We ordered a simple pasta and the gnocchi. The simple pasta tasted store bough and bland and the gnocchi was mushy. The gnocchi was supposedly made in house. We are content on only going to the Boulder location & never going to the Fort Collins location again. We felt like the Fort location either doesn't have a head chef or was off or has an inadequate staff. Our server & hostess were spot on but "The Kitchen" is weak.

Our meal was great! The bolognese and the ribeye were outstanding! Our waitress, Clara, was very knowledgeable and friendly.

We waited 15-20 mins for a table at the bar on a Monday night. When we were finally seated at a table, I was sitting further away from my friend than the two people at the table next to us. Atmosphere was okay, for a "fine dining" restaurant, The Kitchen plays odd musics as ambience (Paula Abdul... Really?). The dining room was very loud, so we requested to be moved back and dined the bar with our bartender, Matt. We had the tomato soup and mussels to start. Both starters were delicious. We both chose "A taste of the kitchen", which is a prefixed 4-course dinner served in family style to share amongst the table. Over the 4 courses, one particularly stood out was the Koberstein steak, it serve on a wooden tray with a summer salad, the dressing was light and citric, steak was laid over a bed of mint dressing. The food definitely is very well presented, delicious and appropriate for the summer season. We also found that the portions were very generous for 2 of us. The only problems we had were their dining room arrangement, noise level and service. We enjoyed each other's company at the bar, but to service a full menu at the bar, our bartender, Matt, was definitely lack in fine dining service. Ambience/atmosphere and service makes it a 3-star review .

Over rated ! The place is super over priced and not worth the extra money. Wouldn't dine there again.

Being fans of great food and atmosphere, we have been waiting for this restaurant to open for a while in Fort Collins. Love the setting with the view of old town, and the great terrace from the Beau Jo days, it was exciting to get a finer dining alternative in this location. We ordered and shared one appetizer, two separate main courses and again shared a dessert. I was underwhelmed by the appetizer, where the lentils really appeared undercooked for my taste. Hard and crunchy, instead of soft and creamy as I would have expected. The main course, lamb, was excellent, perfectly made, with unmemorable sides. The shared dessert was a disappointment. Eton mess, where the flavors were not coming together. The whipped cream was not really picking up any flavors from the strawberries, and it felt hastily put together. For a price tag of $140 with tip for two, I thought I would receive a meal that is perfect, something to reminisce about. This was not it. I will wait for a while before coming back, certainly long enough for them to change the menu a few times. Pluses: great service, location and atmosphere Minuses: underwhelming food for the price

Tried this place out for the first time yesterday for a weekday lunch with my husband and a friend, and all three of us loved it! Our friend and I each got the "Prosciutto & Buratta Sandwich", which was recommended by the waiter and was so delicious! The only downside was that the sandwich comes with potato salad, and it was very bland with no flavor. My friend subbed her potato salad with garlic fries, which I should've done, too - the fries were good. My husband got the penne pasta (I just tried to look it up on the website, but it's not on the current PDF lunch menu), and he liked it. For dessert, we all shared the Eton Mess, and it was very light, crisp, and refreshing to finish off our meal - not heavy at all, which we wanted. Besides the bland potato salad side, we loved the drinks, food, service, and decor/ambience of this restaurant. My husband and I will definitely be back to try some other things on the menu.

The Kitchen is simply amazing. For my 30th birthday my fiance called and said that I only wanted one thing.... cupcakes, which they don't have on their menu. They said they'd see what they can do. I think he must have impressed upon them the magnitude of this birthday because when we walked in, this is what happened: We sat, our waiter came over and said, "the bar is preparing your drinks" even though we had ordered none. They brought out two drinks and we declared them to be the tootsie roll martini! We ordered the charcuterie board and entrees, as well as two drinks from the menu. Everything was fantastic and the service was outstanding. In between our appetizer and entree they brought us an intermezzo of sorbet with liqueur toppers. We met the manager, the head of the bar, and many others who were all so nice. Shoutout to Keith, our amazing server! They then brought us a lemon meringue and key lime pie martinis that tasted just like pie! To top off the evening, they made us two carrot cake cupcakes with pistachio frosting that were just amazing. Their head baker (her name escapes me at the moment) is so talented and I was so appreciative of their attentiveness and service. The food and drink were outstanding (though we didn't love the first drinks, all the rest were amazing) and only charged us for the two drinks we ordered, app, and entree. We have eaten in the finest restaurants in Boston, New York, and San Diego and this place blows them all out of the water with their attention to detail and outstanding service. Go to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

The Kitchen just opened up in Fort Collins (after being delayed a couple months.) The location and actual restaurant are great - they look similiar to the Boulder and Denver locations. However, I just wasn't impressed with the flow, the service, our waitress, etc. Something felt "off" all evening when I went. I am sure things will get better with time, as it's still in its first month of being open - but I wasn't wowed. One thing I will say that is bothering me, and has been, is that all the awesome restaurants born in Boulder are spreading up to Fort Collins (and Denver, but that makes a bit more sense - NOTE: Snarfs, Cosmos, Jax, Illegal Petes, Kitchen, heard rumblings of a Pizzeria Locale in the future.) - Why can't Fort Collins breed their own fantastic restaurants instead of "copying" everything that makes Boulder so unique and great? Anyway, if you're in FoCo, try the Kitchen - but head down to Boulder and pay a visit to the orginal location and check out the Kitchen Upstairs which is so, so cool.

Tried the Kitchen in Fort Collins for the first time last night. We have been waiting for the Kitchen to provide another dinner option as nice restaurants here in Fort Collins are few in number. They opened recently, so we expected a few teething troubles but aside from mildly undercooked lentils with the Merguez lamb sausage starter, food prep was great. Service: A warm greeting was followed by a visit to each end of the restaurant so we could choose our table. It was busy so this was a thoughtful move. Once seated, our server attended with water and a review of the menu. Throughout the evening the service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Everything flowed well. Food: We ordered a starter to share, and it was embarrassingly small for the price. Fort Collins has a limited market for restaurants in this price range and word will quickly spread unless they up their game in this department. The mains were well sized though, and although the entire menu is lacking creativity, everything was well prepared and presented. I expected exciting options on this menu, but the Kitchen fails to offer anything outside of the very ordinary. I'll go here again in maybe 6 months to see how things are, but when I want a really mind-blowing dinner it will still be Jax.

I gotta say, our experience at The Kitchen was just okay. We made a late reservation and still had to wait, and then we waited a solid 15 minutes before the drinks we ordered (beer and wine, nothing fancy) were on our table. We ordered the Charcuterie, Native Hill Green Salad, Garlic Fries, Lamb Sausage, Octopus, and Lemon Tart for dessert. Presentation was beautiful, but the Lamb and Lemon Tart were the only standouts. I understand not having salt and pepper on the tables, because the food is supposed to come out the way the Chef wants you to taste it. That being said, I still would have appreciated freshly cracked pepper on my salad. I was almost done with it before our server came back to make sure everything was okay and by that time it was too late to even ask for it. The lettuces were beautiful though, and I pretty much love the veggies from Native Hill. The draft beer selection was disappointing. Four taps, and they were out of one. This is Fort Collins. We drink beer. And some people like to pair food and beer together. This is an area of opportunity for The Kitchen, for sure. I don't know if I'll return to The Kitchen in Fort Collins. Maybe in a few months or a year when they have the kinks sorted out...if they're still here.

Very pleasantly pleased with our experience at The Kitchen. We walked in a busy Friday night without a reservation and the hosts quickly managed to put a table together for us. The server (Keith) was awesome and took excellent care of us. The food ranged from good to excellent. The octopus and the trout were to die for. The charcuterie platter was very good and the meats perfectly sliced. The tagliatelle were Al dente and the sauce was delicious. The chicken liver pâté was my least favorite of the items ordered. It was more a mousse than a pâté. The atmosphere was great and the setting is even nicer than the one in Boulder. We will definitely be returning!

My boyfriend, sister, and I visited on a busy Tuesday night. We had reservations and were immediately seated. When it comes to a place like this, I expect service to be top notch. Unfortunately, it wasn't that great. Our server popped in sparingly while we waited with empty glasses. Food was OK. The charcuterie we ordered was delicious. Great appetizer. My sister and boyfriend enjoyed their sturgeon and penne. My lamb seemed a little too salty. They have a great selection of beers and spirits. Bartender gets an A+ in my book. Overall, I'd come back to chill at the bar for a drink with friends, but for the price and the service, I wouldn't stick around for dinner. In old town, there are far better choices.
(3)Laura L.
I love this place! Wonderful service - we came twice two or three weeks apart and our server remembered us and remembered details of our last visit. Probably a back end computer system thing but who cares, it is nice! Then when we couldn't decide between two desserts she brought us both and only charged us for one. I just can't say enough about how nice and attentive they are. The food has been fabulous every time we've come too. Well worth the price tag IMO if you're looking for a nice evening out.
(5)Charlotte O.
My lamb dinner was perfectly cooked.... and it's not always easy to cook lamb right. Having the lemon tart for dessert. Slowly falling in love with the kitchen!
(5)Deana K.
Definitely worth a visit if you're willing to pay for it... It's pricey; my husband and I had 2 cocktails and 2 appetizers totaling $50 with tip. Still, it was delicious and we had great service! Had the fava bean bruschetta, hummus, Kentucky whiskey and a negroni.
(5)Blake B.
Just had lunch here with a client today and really enjoyed our overall experience. Bre was our waitress and she was awesome. I started off with the tomato soup and got the steak frites as recommended by Bre. Both were really tasty and the frites made the meal.
(4)Ras R.
I have never had so many servers at one restaurant in my life! The wine list, tho extremely attenuated, has been thoughtfully curated. This evening, my partner and I opted for the tasting menu: summer squash salad with goat cheese and caramelized pecans; bruschetta with smashed beans and chicken, FABULOUS tagliatelle (made in house) with crab (and I dislike crab!) followed by a tagliata di manzo (i don't know the words in English) with finger potatoes and a coulis of parsimolo - fantastic! And this from a recovering vegetarian! If dessert is as good as the previous courses and this amazing Borolo, I will be back tomorrow! My only complaint: don't expect to converse. Not with your waiter, not with your dinner partner - perhaps with yourself. If you can find a quiet space inside your head!

My wife and I were going to try this place but we read in the Coloradoan today that it received a "marginal" Larimer County Restaurant Inspection. larimer.org/food/asp/isi…

Terrible disappointment! I love the Denver location, but the FOCO location isn't even close to being what the Denver location is. The service is slow and our server seemed confused and unorganized. We went for dinner on a Monday night. It was not busy at all, however you would have thought it was from how slow the service was. I ordered a signature drink from the menu. It took a half hour to get the drink. The server said the bartender didn't remember how to make the drink...REALLY?? We ordered the octopus and beets. Very subpar....The octopus was so salty and the beets were bland. Like many of the other reviews, we too waited forever for our main course. When it finally arrived, my son's halibut had a big hair on it. My pork chop had so much fat on it but the polenta was good. They offered to replace the meals but frankly we didn't wait another hour. They did buy the meals which we appreciated, but we would have gladly paid for our meals had they been edible. We won't be back.

Very high quality, fresh food with high matching service. I dropped in on a business Trip and got a recommendation to go here. I had a trout entree that was dynamite. Everything on the menu looked great so it was hard to make a choice. This seems to be the crown jewel of Fort Collins.

it's like Alice Waters came back from the 80s and poorly executed her own ideas. Plus she didn't train her staff.

The Kitchen Fort Collins was a true disappointment. After dining at the Boulder location a few times, we were really looking forward to eating here since we live in Ft. Collins. The drinks were overpriced, the food was too expensive for what you received and the wait time for our food after placing our order was 50 minutes!!! They weren't that busy! I am totally fine with paying more for a quality dining experience, as we dine often at Jay's, Jax Fish House, etc., but the amount we paid for poor quality food was outrageous. I could have made better dishes at home! Both of our entrees were heavy in the low cost sides (beans, greens, etc) and the main dish was small, so proportionally, it was off. Also, both entrees were soooo salty, and the sides were so bland, it was all around not good. We do not plan on returning, and in speaking of our experience to other friends, it seems pretty consistent with their experiences as well. I just cannot see how The Kitchen will make it in Fort Collins, without making some huge changes! I hope that the owners read this (and the other many reviews that sound like mine) and do something before they are out of business. Also, if they plan on putting a Kitchen Next Door in town somewhere, they better have this things ironed out or that restaurant won't make it either! There are too many other great restaurants in FoCo that we won't need to waste our time at The Kitchen ever again.

I have lived in Ft collins for almost 20 years. I have heard and read about how everyone here was so excited the the Kitchen was coming to town. All if the big named restaurants that have come to town have exceed my expectations and I have been back multiple times. This is not the case of the Kitchen!! I had made reservation the day before for a party of 10. I was very happy that they offered this service. When my party arrived the hostess said that there wasn't a table for us and we had to used the "community" table for walk ins. Needless to say I was very disappointed about this. Why offer a service that isn't really available. Like the the time frame of construction the service is very slow. I was more enthusiastic to be there the the staff. We decided to order a taste if the kitchen. It was made up of 5 course meal served family style. It was the most uninspiring meal I have had in a long time. I understand that they spent a huge chunk of change on a beautiful building and restaurant, but it' still a restaurant and people go there for the food. I would rather go to a hole in the wall and get great food then to have an illusion of a great restaurant and be very disappointed!! I will not be back and not recommend the kitchen to anyone. The other 9 friends ( that happen to be other business owners in town) will do the same. Best of luck and I hope you make some changes!

Excellent leisure or power/business lunch restaurant. On par with the best places in LA or SF-without the attitude. Great house wines, entrees and local ingredients. Price-can't recall- the experience was so good!

Beautiful menu, food savory and unique- seems a bit overpriced for Fort Collins fare- especially given the somewhat noisy atmosphere. Sitting in the patio area reminded me a bit of a Paris cafe, which was fun. Service was excellent, which helped ease the pain of our tab...

Just had dinner here. We had read many articles and were excited to try it. It is really expensive however the food is good. The decor is relaxed chic. There are large farm tables making it easier to share items including the family style option on the menu. The wait staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and plentiful. Plenty of tables for two, though you will be close to others, and a classy bar. It is both upscale and comfortable all at once. IT was a little loud as it filled up, but as two people we could still have a decent conversation. The setup did mean you were right on top of other couples which encourages friendly chatting but not conducive to privacy. The food was amazing, tho pricey. My husband started with a Horse & Dragon Stout and I had a Dizzy Water (Lemoncello & GInger beer with a black cherry) which was a perfect summer cocktail! We ordered the Octopus Plancha Grilled as a starter. The octopus was tender and laid on a bed of fingerling mater ial with a wonderful mint & olive oil sauce. Perfect for two. For the main course my husband had the salmon and I had the lamb. We both very much enjoyed our meals. The lamb was perfectly grilled and so so tender. The greens were just lightly cooked so they were flavorful. So nice that it wasn't boiled greens with a sauce, just a perfect companion, with white beans, to the flavors of the lamb. Everything went together perfectly. My husband's salmon was perfectly cooked on a succotash bed. Again, the vegetables had texture and taste. Incredible. He had Oskar Blu's G'Night with his mains. We splurged and had dessert. The Eton Mess, otherwise known as strawberries and cream. Chantilly cream, strawberries, and meringues. Not too sweet and a perfect end to a perfect meal. The only drawback? The manager. We had misunderstood the purpose behind the restaurant. We thought it was local food and were surprised at how little was local. When we asked him (very nicely because we were curious about the whole place and all the buzz) he got very defensive and said "we never claimed to be local/ No where on our website does it say we are local or farm to table and I want to serve seafood. it is all conscious purchasing. I can call a guy . . ." and on and on. All he had to say was "Actually we source what we can locally and make conscious purchases on the rest." Then, when my husband questioned the lack of draft options (only four) and Colorado beers. His response? "I choose the beers I want." Again, he could have said "I choose a variety of beers to compliment our menu." The whole thing just didn't sit right with us. In a place that claims to be "community" and set up to encourage conversation his attitude was a real downer.in an otherwise wonderful evening. Perfect opportunity for him to educate us on all the wonderful things that The Kitchen does for their community and its philosophy. Instead we got attitude. He never even came back to see if we enjoyed our meal. Just whisked our empty dessert plate away. All in all there are many places with food that is just as good for a better price in Fort Collins. And only four beer taps is disappointing as well for people who like to pair good brews with fine food. I think we might think better of it if we hadn't been treated like rubes by the manager. Just reaffirms that trendy and expensive comes with attitude I guess.

Go anywhere else downtown and you'll get better value for you money. The food was good, but not great. The presentation was beautiful, but, I would rather go somewhere else for that price and have leftover lunch for the next day and not have my food look so pretty. Sometimes I would get a little taste of something where it didn't belong, and the service wasn't wonderful. I admit we got there a little early, about 6:00 on a Tuesday, but I counted about six people standing around chit chatting before our drink order was taken (too many minutes later). However, if you like overpriced, small portions, then by all means, give it a try!

My fiance and I went and sat at the bar. The wine menu is amazing and I thought the food was awesome as well. I have been back since for lunch and although our food took about 45 minutes it was still delicious. Not the place to go if you are in a rush but is really amazing food. Something different for Fort Collins which I like.

I've been a couple of times. The food has been good for the most part, but the service has been very slow and hands off.

I was really looking forward to the opening of this restaurant, billed as local seasonal fare it sounded like it was right up my alley. I was somewhat disappointed in my first experience. The servers appeared to be trying 'too hard' perhaps to compensate for their pricey menu. I had the Lunch Box, which was OK but by no means stellar... a similar item can be had much cheaper (& with a better cheese) at Welsh Rabbit only a couple of blocks away. Won't go out of my way to go again, but by no means horrible.
(3)Tim H.
The food is great. The service was not so much. My wife and I visited The Kitchen in Boulder before this one opened and it was one of the better dining experiences we have had. We were excited when the Fort Collins restaurant opened, but felt it wasn't up to par. It took 30 mins to get our drinks after ordering, and there was no personality to the server. There is definitely room for improvement.

I liked the main dish at the kitchen - which is what I would want from an "expensive" restaurant. I have three issues that kept me from giving five stars - first is that (as other's have said) it's pretty loud (I was there on a Thursday); and mainly, I have been to a ton of "nice" restaurants - and it always amazes me when I sit down and i DON'T get bread brought to the table to snack on. As a result, there was nothing on the table (besides water) until the entree showed up (I'm a light eater, so I rarely order an appetizer). So, in short - bread would have been nice. I also struggle with the idea that I had to pay for any "sides" - I mean, hell, if you're paying $25 - $30 for a meaI I really think the restaurant should provide you with something to go along with your meal. Good restaurant, not great - easy tweaks, some bread and sides - cheap to add (hell, charge me an extra buck if you have to) and it would improve the experience greatly.

My husband and I decided to come to the restaurant that literally took months to open. Maybe more than six months? It was date night so that means we order everything: drinks, apps, salad, entree, dessert. Unfortunately the food was less than stellar. The appetizer was cold when it was suppose to be warm, the entree which was a steak was rubbery. The dessert was good albeit teeny-tiny and came immediately after they took our entree plates away. Felt a bit rushed and got the sense they wanted us OUT. From now on when wanting a nice farm to table meal, will look elsewhere.

We spent 99$ on two margaritas, 2 beers, and a shared chicken entree. To be clear that is half a rotisserie chicken (the kind you kind buy whole from Safeway for $6) and a plate of couscous. No salad, no vegetables, no bread. The kitchen seems to think people are willing to spend their entire day's paycheck on a non-meal. We left hungry, walked across the street and shared guacamole for $5 that was more satisfying than the lithe 's "entree." Please don't ever ever ever eat here.

My husband and I love The Kitchen. Our last visit was for his birthday and the staff was eager to help us make it a special night. The locally sourced and homemade items help to make this a great dining spot. This last visit had us trying the lamb and the tagliatelli bolognese. Neither dish left us disappoint and provided a well portioned, delicious meal. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert is the best we've had stateside and is to die for. The staff has always been attentive and responsive. We have never felt rushed or ignored when dining here. We would recommend this for special occasions, a nice date night or impressing out of town guests.

So glad to have the Kitchen in Fort Collins. Had a terrific lunch here last week (same week they opened). Lives up to my past experience at their Denver and Boulder locations. Perfect all the way around and really ups the bar for local options. Everything was spot on. Look forward to returning for dinner. The Kitchen does it all right.

The best restaurant in Fort Collins in my opinion. Great attention to detail. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. Every dish I've tried has been fantastic. I also appreciate their investment in the community and health education.

Everything about this restaurant is incredible! The service is attentive and cordial, the food is QUALITY, and the drinks are delicious. It's pretty pricey, but it's absolutely worth it! I had the steak, and not only was IT good, but my potatoes and greens... I've never enjoyed vegetables so much. Seriously, you've got to indulge a bit and come here. Ask for Cleo to take care of you, too!

The Kitchen is a trendy, albeit unique, restaurant in Downtown Fort Collins that features farm-to-table cuisine in an upscale atmosphere. I have dined here twice and found service to be exceptional but not timely. I rated both visits as four stars since the food was unique, well presented, but had key concerns with cooking level and presentation. For this recent visit, I started with the Merguez Lamb Sausage. It was served with the sausage somewhat burnt. Well-cooked sausage should be served crisp outside and just slightly charred. Paired sides of lentils and yogurt were excellent. For the main course, I selected the Crego Farms Lamb Oven Roasted. The lamb is served medium rare but I found it rather tough and stringy...no doubt due to the cut against the grain versus with it, resulting in the chewiness. Nevertheless, flavor was only slightly gamey and the sides of barley, golden raisins, pomegranate & preserved lemon yogurt were excellent and well prepared. One final note: the female server, who I shall not name, was a bit pretentious and slightly overbearing in her demeanor, but her service was excellent. I would recommend The Kitchen to anyone who wants upscale dining in a classy atmosphere, which thankfully, serves as a anchor in downtown, where substandard dining is more the exception than the rule.

Ordered the Portobello sandwich for lunch on a perfect Saturday afternoon. Delicious! 5 stars.

This was a nice place for a family lunch and they were able to accommodate 6 people easily. The location is good, the decor is upscale, and the staff is great. For hubby and I, the food choices were nice. I chose the beet salad -- nice serving. For our younger 20/30-somethings, a little too trendy and "upscale." All agreed the fries were excellent. The wine was okay. Hubby's cocktail was quite good. They ran out of two menu specials although it wasn't that late in the day. Hubby and I would likely go back here, but two of our 20-somethings were not as enthused. They would have enjoyed a pizza joint better. I personally thought it was a very nice place to take a date for lunch.

Delish!!!! The charutteri platecis fantastic! the staff I very welcoming and knowledgeable. Great place to relax and have a leisurely lunch or dinner.
(5)Donna R.
My friend and I had big salads for lunch and both salads contained extremely old, brown greens, so much that we couldn't finish them. When we told the server she informed the chef who brought us a free dessert to share. We didn't want dessert; we wanted the lunch salads. We left hungry.

Best restaurant in Ft. Collins! Meets the standards of food-central SF Bay area! Amazingly flavorful food, warm sophisticated atmosphere. This is the type of restaurant that Ft. Collins really needs!!!

Best restaurant in Fort Collins. No question. Beautiful ambiance, amazing food and awesome staff!

Had my going away party at The Kitchen Fort Collins last weekend. The experience? How can I put it in one word that may tantalize you to read on...RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! The service was top notch. Though Keith Potts (yep, of Kardashian fame) took care of our table, the service style at The Kitchen is clearly Team Service. That is awesome and really hard to execute in a way that is both warm and technically precise. Keith and team rocked it hard. The embodiment of professionalism, the infectious passion for what they do, and the exacting elegance of service fundamentals was right on. Thank you so much for making me feel so special. The food was incredible. I believe the Chef's name was Brent. He came over at one point to deliver the dish that he had a hand in creating. Can you imagine? The chef came over to deliver his food. We're not talking about low grade art here, friends--the kind of which you can find at any restaurant. We're talking about simple and intelligent--where rusticity of the local ingredients meets the sophistication of the passionate heart of the chefs. If you're looking for a pork chop that is overdone and tastes bland, a mediocre salmon dish without skin, or a steak that comes from a factory that has no awareness of what wholesome product means, don't go here. If, on the other hand, you are looking for food that is lovingly prepared, that comes from your hard-working local farmers who pour their hearts into the product, and a restaurant that supports that and more, then you're on the right path when you walk through the front door of The Kitchen Fort Collins. The space is beautiful, and all of my party was duly impressed. This wasn't going out to dinner. This was going on vacation for three hours! I will suggest this restaurant without reservation to all who will heed my call. They are knocking it out of the park.

I had a great experience here! We had the bruschetta, gnocchi and steak and all three dishes were seriously excellent. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The gnocchi was light and pillowy, it was probably the highlight. We also had great service. I'm seeing the cocktails are getting horrible reviews so I will add we only each had one glass of cab....guess we avoided the bad part :)
(4)Jim O.
Fantastic! The steak and eggs on the weekend menu is probably the best I've ever had. The drink specials were extremely unique and made excellently. Will definitely be back! The price is totally worth the exceptional quality. Was here for a Sunday morning.
(5)Jim S.
Have been to the Boulder location several times and would give it 4.5 stars. Twice to FoCo location and it's just not on par. Good craft beer menu, wine selection, but food takes a back seat.
(3)Becca H.
Great service, food, and ambiance. The wait staff was knowledgeable and gave us recommendations for wine pairings. Can't wait to go back!

I've been twice and both times were somewhat disappointing. The entrees are overpriced, for what you get: while the portions of meat (lamb, halibut) were generous, the accompaniments listed on the menu should not have even been listed on the menu, because they were basically non-existent (i.e., if it says it comes with "asparagus", expect 2 or 3 thin, inch-size slivers of asparagus under the fish.) The halibut was WAY over-salted (and I like salt), and came with a small amount of very salty broth under it - I asked my server for some house bread to cut the salt (and also so the broth didn't go to waste)... apparently they don't have any house bread?, so she comped me some toast which took a VERY long time to arrive (and really didn't go well with the halibut once it did). The fish was tasty, fresh and perfectly cooked, and so was the lamb, also generously portioned, though the greens under the lamb (just like the asparagus) were ridiculously flimsy and skimpy-- not enough to compliment the dish. The servers were friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely, but the food is just way overpriced for what you get. If an entree of halibut or lamb is really going to be nothing BUT the cut of meat, pretty much, it shouldn't be ~$30!

What a let down. Was so excited to try this place. Service was poor. Food was very boring. Drinks were overpriced and not very good. Stay away from the cherry bomb specialty drink. I felt like the entire staff felt like they were better than the customer and that they were doing us a favor by serving us. I will not be back anytime soon.

Ate lunch with group. Very tasty, great staff, beautiful decor, good value. The Kitchen is doing great work.

We are delighted to have The Kitchen in Fort Collins. We were there earlier this week for an anniversary lunch. The food was terrific, the service was outstanding, and they went out of their way to make our experience memorable. We know they have only been open a short while and the crowds have made everything hectic, but we had a very positive experience and were seated promptly at the reservation time we requested. We will definitely be back.

Stumbled upon The Kitchen while visiting Fort Collins over the Thankgiving weekend. We were very pleased with the food and the excellent service. Our server, Dan, was very informative and did a great job explaining the menu and also pairing our wine. The oysters were excellent and the tomato soup was to die for. My trout was delicious and the parsnip smash was fabulous. My husband had the tagliatelle with bolognese which he loved. My daughter had the salmon that was excellent as well. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent but very heavy. We split it 3 ways and still didn't finish it. The wine selection was excellent as well. We thought the service was one of the best we've had and we do eat out quite often. If you got up to use the restroom, within seconds a server would fold your napkin. Your water glass never got below half full. The manager, another Dan, was very friendly and accommodating as well. This dinner will rank right up there as one of our favorite dining out experiences.

After driving 2 hours from Wyoming excited to try this new place, unfortunately it was quite disappointing. From the minute we walked in there was no greeter. Ha, a server even looked right at us and turned the other way...(need to teach teamwork). Then a girl walked up and said hello, but that was it. 2 for lunch please. We sat outside and was greeted by our server after a few minutes of waiting. He greeted us and called us kids, wow last time I checked kids did not order alcohol. He continued to call us kids throughout the entire service, how belittling I thought. We watched as he payed special attention to a party of 3 where one of the guests was wearing a chef coat. I thought, wow, if that is the exec chef,(I hope not) maybe he shouldn't demand attention away from paying guests. Anyhow, we waited 45 minutes for our lunch, husband ordered lamb burger mid-rare, came well done, and I ordered chicken, it was ok, we watched as people who sat down 30 min after us get there food. The manager finally came out with the smallest dish of nuts for us to munch on and told us there was a mix-up...wow nuts, how about offering an appetizer. Didn't offer to buy us a drink or anything, nada. Sadly we were disappointed, we know Dave who provides the meat to the restaurant out of Greeley and shared our experience. He raved about the place so we knew we had to try. My husband is a chef and we accept hiccups, but this was a crash and burn for us on the first try. Will try again maybe for dinner. Hope they iron out the customer service though.

My husband and I love the Kitchen in Boulder, so we were eagerly anticipating the Ft. Collins opening. What a DISAPPOINTMENT! Here's why: we arrived at 6:30 on MONDAY, told there was a 45 min wait. OK, got our table at 7:15. Waited ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES for our entrees to arrive. That's right, our meal did not arrive until after 9:00. AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES after we ordered. We wanted to leave so many times but we kept telling ourselves "it will be here any minute". Our server never came to tell us what the hold up was, apologize, anything. Finally, the manager clued into "the look" and said ours was the next up. Another 15 mins and we could FINALLY eat. The manager did buy our entrees, which we appreciated. But, honestly, wouldn't you rather pay for your meal instead of sitting through a 3-hour ordeal? TERRIBLE SERVICE, HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! We are really sad. Maybe we'll come back in 6 months or so and see if they have their act together by then.
