You can hardly miss Austin's: Overflowing onto the main drag of downtown Fort Collins with plenty of outdoor seating. Very high end part of town, enjoyed walking up and down the main drag and just people watching from the restaurant. Plenty of outdoor seating for a nice sunny Colorado day. My drink was strong! It was my first time there and the bartender didn't know us at all and we still got strong drinks. Food was a little lacking - there was a special on appetizers so we got a few and it was lukewarm. Other than that, great experience and generally cheap for the location and the drinks we ordered. If I find myself in Fort Collins again, I'll definitely stop in.

I went into Austins with a group of 7, so 8 total. We called about 35 minutes in advance so they could be prepared. Once we got in, the male server was a bit harsh, blunt & impersonal. He then switched with another waitress so from the beginning we were feeling a bit uncomfortable. When our food came, the waitress spilled water on my friend. Accidents happen but she still brushed it off like no big deal. The steaks 3 of the 8 ordered were over salted & chewy. The vegetables were cold and mushy. I confronted the manager. He twitted his pencil behind a clipboard & preceded to argue with all of us when we told him how terrible of a service we had. I tried to ask him what grade of meat they carried & he had no idea. After me asking him twice, I feel as though he just picked a grade I named off. Terrible. I will never fucking go back there. We spent about $350 all together and the meals were worth about &150 all together.

Austin's worked out great for what we wanted. We needed to grab a quick dinner and the Women's World Cup final was on. We asked to be seated at a table with a view of the TV. They provided that efficiently and were very accommodating. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. It was happy hour as well so they had half price appetizers and some drink specials. I got a mojito and we ordered the cornbread with crab stuffed avocado. The cornbread was REALLY dry and just crumbled apart. I probably wouldn't get that again. The avocados were delish! I took my fiance here to celebrate the end of our long distance and we were NOT disappointed. The wine was reasonably priced and phenomenal. I had one of the "Interesting Reds" our waiter Patrick recommended and it was perfect to pair with the Buffalo Meatloaf. My fiance had the rotisserie chicken and it melted in your mouth unlike any chicken we'd ever had. The mashed potatoes were worth popping 4 lactaid pills for a lactard like me. We were there about 4 PM on a Friday during homecoming weekend, so was pretty busy. We were quickly seated in the waiter came by to take orders. The patio was great, except that even under the cover a few of the people in our party still got rained on. We didn't actually find it too bothersome lol. The staff were all super polite and at least we didn't have to wait two hours to sit inside... :0) Honestly, I found Austin's to be OK. I felt like they didn't really live up to the hype though. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with the potatoes and coleslaw. The chicken was moist... but almost too moist... which I know sounds super weird... The mashed potatoes were killer. So good. Actually the best part of the whole meal... The coleslaw was pretty good too. My hubby ordered the ribs, and was so disappointed in them. They were extremely dry. Oddly opposite from my chicken. He described them as being like jerky... They were obviously cooked way too long. The staff offered to bring him something else and were very apologetic about it, but he declined to send it back. We don't usually like to send things back to the kitchen, no matter where we are. I'd love to come back another time though. The patio location is in a great spot for people watching and hanging out over a martini.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. I called ahead of time and made a reservation only to get there and then over hear the servers arguing about who was going to wait on our table. We had close to a 400 dollar bill because we were celebrating two birthdays and the waitress was rude, unprofessional and we could hear her complaining in the back of the kitchen. When we complained about all our food being cold she ignored our claim then knocked a glass of water over which spilled all over the table and two of the girls in my party. The water was most likely an accident however she didn't bring additional napkins to replace our wet ones nor did she replace the water glass that had spilled. When we asked to speak to the manager he came out and tried to argue with us rather than apologize for the service. I understand this is a college town and we are in our mid twenties but it was extremely obvious he judged us as being broke college kids and assumed we were just complaining to get a discount. We paid our full bill and left only to be stalked by our waitress who approached us at a neighboring restaurant and proceeded to harass us, trying to fight until she was kicked out by security. I have no idea what type of business they are trying to run or training they are providing for their servers but all new staff, food and atmosphere would do this place some good. Save yourself heartburn and avoid it at all costs.

This is a solid place in Old Town. Right on the corner, easy to find, nice decor and I like how you can see the rotisserie when you walk in. That really got my appetite going. I had the crab stuffed avocado for starters. It was was good but not great. It is a full avocado with just a little crab stuffed in it and lightly fried. I couldn't taste much of the crab because there was so much avocado. However, I like avocado so overall, not a bad appetizer. I had the rotisserie sirloin for my main dish. It was amazing! There are many neat little places in Fort Collins, I would count Austin's as one of them. Not to big and pretty quaint. The interior brick is very neat. It is almost as if it was an outdoor restaurant that they enclosed. The decor is very well done. We felt at home and comfortable right away. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Kristi was our waitress. She did an excellent job of taking care of our every dining need. We started with the Jalapeno corn bread and a Spinach Artichoke dip. The corn bread was excellent. You know how the corn and jalapeno kind of meld together to give you a sweet flavor with a hint of spicy jalapeno, well that is what has happened here. Perfect. I had the Buffalo meatloaf. It was really very good, but I was disappointed with the ketchup drizzle. Really, ketchup. I know some people really like it that way, but it should be an option. How about a nice Demi Glace, or a brown gravy. Had they put a demi on my meatloaf, there would be 5 stars at the top of this review. The ketchup could have been spiced or doctored in some way, I am not sure. I did try it, but it seemed like just ketchup to me. OK, enough complaining, the real star was the meatloaf. If was really good. Cooked as expected with a nice char around the edges. Buffalo makes for a good meatloaf. This one was very good, I think I mentioned that above. They topped it with onion straws and a nice, slightly overdressed, slaw on the side. My wife had the Pork Tenderloin. Now that was great. I really like the Smoky raspberry sauce. Hmmm, maybe that could go on the meatloaf. The loin was cooked to perfection. It is so easy to overcook pork. That was not the case at all. Nice pink center. Melts in your mouth. I will probably have to order it the next time we go. When you are looking for a nice, somewhat formal, place to eat in old town, try out Austin's, it is really nice.

Great place for a team lunch, especially if you are working in Old Town Fort Collins. I had a salad that was fresh and lovely. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich, which he mostly liked except for the multi-grain bun (he isn't one for healthy types of food). The only complaint was that they wouldn't let us put two tables together so that our party of eight could eat together. Went here on a nice summers night. Overall the food is good, it's just the price and portion sizes are outrageous. I had the lamb rotisserie, while the meat and gravy was good -- the pilaf was very dry. The others at the table had the chicken rotisserie, which tasted as good as the type of rotisserie chicken you can find at a supermarket like King Soopers. The big difference, is that you get the whole chicken and pay 1/4 of the price at the supermarket. The service was good. I would have given them a 5 star rating if it were not for the smarmy attitude manifesting from the host. After some confusion, we were seated in a booth that seemingly accommodated 7 people. A little tight for my taste but it sufficed. The entrees were outstanding. This restaurant was designed a bit weird if you ask me. It was narrow and long. Kind of cramped. Overall, it was a decent experience.
This place was surprisingly packed when we went here. We had to call ahead and make a reservation where they promptly seated us in the bar and not in the dining room. That was ok except there was only one server for around 8 tables making the service incredibly slow. The food was pretty decent. I had rotisserie chicken which was one of the cheapest things on the menu coming in at $13. It was well seasoned and tasted pretty good but was nothing super special and was not a lot of food at all. I got 2 wings and a breast. I did not go here expecting a high price place but it sure was that... I would have loved to try one of their steaks but I was not willing to drop $22 bucks for their cheapest cut and everything else that I would have liked was at least $16. My last complaint was the very small menu. A single page including deserts and appetizers. Not a whole lot of selection at all.

The food was great. I had an excellent prime rib. I asked for medium rare, and I got a real true, medium rare. Its not often that restraunts get the cooking of high quality meat correct, but they did. The service was fast, and we were seated on time. I called ahead for reservations and I recommend this, because the wait was quite long for people who were walk-ins. My drink was horrible, as was my girl's. I don't know if the bartender was having a bad day, but neither drink was correct. I'll ususally send it back if its wrong, but I didn't because we were in a hurry to eat and get to a movie. Went here for brunch on Sunday- as the other spots in Ft Collins were packed. The brunch menu was pretty bad. They only had four or so breakfast items and each were very heavy. I was hoping that Austin's would have some lighter items - especially because I hate eating like a pig in the morning. The other problem with menu was that there was not too many lunch items. I ended up just ordering a Chicken Quesadilla. Like I said, everything else was too heavy and this was one of the lighter items on the menu. This quesadilla was listed on the appetizer menu - so maybe the problem with their brunch menu is that they have appetizers and not a complete breakfast menu. We also ordered french toast. I was on a flight from Seattle to Denver, and got to talking with the lady in the window seat when we realized that we graduated from CSU a few years apart. Her second question: "Does Austin's still have the portabello sandwich?" It's that good, people. Actually, I can't think of anything I don't like at Austin's. The location is great and service is always friendly. The dinner entrees are expensive, but it's fantastic for lunch or happy hour. All of the sandwiches are amazing-- the portabello, lamb sandwich, and buffalo burger are all stand-outs. Also, I have invested a serious amount of time trying to replicate their black and white chicken chili, but haven't managed it yet. If you go during happy hour, the mojito is the best I've had west of Florida, and the coconut shrimp and crab cakes are both delicious. One of my favorite places in Fort Collins; it was always one of my parents' favorites when they came to visit, too. Definitely a spot I'm nostalgic for.

Was there recently with a large group (about 12). Service was good but slow - 20 minutes to get drinks, another 15-20 minutes for appetizers. I rarely eat red meat but I do like buffalo, so I got the buffalo steak. My medium order came out medium rare, bordering on rare. All the food (except the baked potato) was barely warm. At that point I did not send it back; I figured the rareness gave me some leeway when re-heating the leftovers. It also definitely called for a very sharp knife - the toughest buffalo steak I've had. I had heard good things about Austin's, but I don't think I'll go back again (especially if I am paying!). I realize a large group can slow tings down some, but I've spent too many years in the restaurant industry to want to repeat slow service and so-so food.

So very few selections. My biggest problem with this restaurant is that my friends like the chicken, which I don't (how can something be greasy and dry?) and it's the cheapest thing on the menu. So when I come with them I can either order something mediocre and pay an above average price or just order a side salad (the main salads aren't good enough to fork out the hefty price) It makes dining out with friends rather not enjoyable, add in the opening of the main door when it's cold out and I'd advise to keep on your winter coat. This place gets a star for it's location (something you can't change) and a second star for it's happy hour, the only thing worth paying for on the menu in my opinion. More stars to come if they would offer better food for the prices they charge and if they had more to choose from.

I went here and decided to eat something on the lighter side of the plate the other day. I ordered a nice leafy salad with coconut shrimp on top of it. Very good combination! They gave me a nice hunk of cornbread too! While I enjoyed my meal I noticed with the coconut shrimp that they deep fry it most likely in the same bin as the french fries because there was a french fry stuck to my shrimp... or a french fry flew into the shrimp. lol! Not a big deal at all. I would recommend the salad to anyone who wants to eat lighter (greens with a hint of seafood)but with all of that bread, clear some extra room in your tummy for it.
I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and enjoyed it quite a bit. They have a great sidewalk patio, which is great for a Summer afternoon. The service was friendly. I will be back.

Moo-ing Steaks and a Man in a Red Dress! 7:30 on the last Saturday night of Great Plates, we were given a 45 min to 1 hour wait for a party of two. Of course, did we expect anything different? After about 5 minutes we were able to snag 2 seats at the bar and were immediately greeted by an enthusiastic bartender. They don't have ginger ale, they fake it, but they put it bitters to give it a kick. Bitters from the British West Indies, is basically alcohol, sucrose, and gentian extract (the bitterness comes from this plant). It was ok flavor, but it certainly not passable for ginger ale. We ordered identical dinners of Prime Rib, med/rare, and substituted garlic mashers for the baked. Our meat was bright red and still moo-ing when they brought it to the table, but I'm an adventurous eater, so I just smeared it with horseradish, bellied up and dug in. The horseradish had an interesting effect. After a few minutes, my meat was no longer bloody and raw. Anybody know about this? Does it "cook" or cure the meat the same way that lime cooks ceviche? At the end of the dinner I had a nice pile of uneaten zucchini (my own personal yech) on my plate, as well as a mound of greasy fat (redundant, I know) and stringy connective tissue. I hate to say it, but my cut of prime rib from Johnson's Corner was better. The highlight of the evening was when a very tall, very NOT feminine man in full drag came in and sat down beside me at the bar. Now, I'm a citified girl and would have turned and tipped my glass to "her" but I was too busy smacking my husband who let out an all-too-audible "holy mackerel" under his breath. And I think I heard the bartender address him as "sir", eep! BTW, the man in the red dress was way more interesting than the dessert menu.

Updated as of 8.28.2011: While everything below is still somewhat true, the poor management of this restaurant has resulted in a major downgrade as the experience is very unreliable. About 50% of the time it has been good, and 50% unsatisfactory which I blame entirely on the management - which is second rate at best. Our hostess was rude the last time we went and the brunch food was quite greasy, on a separate occasion we were served well done beef when we ordered rare etc. I have had the manager come by our table before and they seemed ungenuine. I wish this place would have more pride in their service and be more consistent with their product. When they have a good night it is very good - but I can't risk taking people here anymore. This is one of our favorite places to go out to dinner. The atmosphere inside is nice and warm with exposed brick walls and an open rotisserie in the middle of the entrance. The bartenders are nice if you want to get a drink while you wait. The patio is large and also a great place to sit if the weather is nice. the food here is typically delicious - I have enjoyed the buffalo salad, rotisserie chicken, crab cake appetizer, french dip sandwich and burgers. The doli stoli martini is also very tasty and has a good kick to it. But there are some misses - The salmon was very fishy and not good, the rotisserie sirloin comes pre-sliced on your plate in a less than impressive portion and the ribs are waaaay over seasoned so you can't taste the meat. Overall - its a good place with a nice atmosphere but the menu can be hit and miss.

Delightful atmosphere, great location, and friendly service means I'll return to this place to try their specialties (roasted chicken and steak).

The only times I can actually afford going to Austin's is during the Great Plate's deal. I went last year and again this year. Last year my husband got the prime rib and loved it, though I don't even remember what I got (I think it was the salmon). Obviously, it wasn't good enough to make an impression. This year we went again with some friends and we all got the prime rib since it was such a great deal. I thought it was just okay, I've definitely made a better prime rib myself at home. My husband even commented that the prime rib was better the year before. The veggies didn't have much flavor and they were cold. Our server was also very lack-luster. Definitely not the type of service you would expect to get a restaurant that charges almost $20 for an entree. To sum it up: Okay food that is a bit pricey with alright service, but maybe an okay place to impress a date or for a business lunch.

I was looking to not spend a lot this night since I was in the middle of a week-long trip. And the prices here aren't the most budgeted, but not too pricey either. The service was very good and we were shown in and waited on rather frequently asking how things were and if we'd like anything else. I got the Fat Tire Cheese Soup (had to try it with the New Belgium brewery just down the street). Thumbs up for their soup! I should've gotten a bowl instead of a cup. Can't exactly taste the Fat Tire, but I guess that's just a cooking seasoning. I also got the Blue Cheese Salad, which was rather disappointing. NOTE that they barely have any blue cheese in it...just a few crumbles. And it seemed to have too much oil dressing (not even blue cheese dressing). I borrowed my friend's blue cheese dressing from his buffalo wings. There were a lot of other items in the salad and it was an okay salad, but just not what I was expecting. I'd come back here again, but just not order the Blue Cheese Salad again.

really a 2.5 but, I have to agree with one of the other reviewers on Austins... I was disappointed. Two colleagues of mine were referred here for dinner. We were seated, though uncomfortably in the center of the restaurant. I had the salmon which was good, but not good enough for the price. It did feel like a chain restaurant... from the decor to the menu. It is supposed to be an American steak house - grilled salmon, Delmonico steaks, roasted chicken and prime rib. However, my co-workers ordered the steaks and felt like our hotel (the Marriott on Horsetooth - which has bomb rib-eye with mushroom onion hash) had a much better steak. I would say that dessert and the port saved me from rating this lower. I don't think I will return here except for dessert, port, and drinks, but others might really like it.

This used to be my place to grab a pint after work and I miss it. The atmosphere was always nice and the staff was always personable. I highly recommend going during HH, they have great drink and food specials on the weekdays. Gets pretty packed due to the great patio but if you are smart you can usually get a spot to drink and grub. They have a great selection of beer and for the ladies they have a healthy variety of fruity martinis. Also try the mojitos, they can get you into trouble they are so good.

The best patio if all of Old Town Fort Collins, I love taking visitng family and friends to Austin's. My favorite is the Coconut Shrimp salad, with the Austin's burger being a close second. And if I'm in the mood for a drink, the love the Stoli Doli martini. It's one of my favorite places for a business lunch. Everyone leaves happy, and fulfilled.

I was shocked to find out that Austin's American Grill wasn't owned by Chili's, Applebee's or Friday's, because it just smacked of being a chain restaurant. Even the menus look like they were built by a marketing team - corporate and bereft of character. Austin's is, essentially, a steak house - offering grilled salmon, delmonico steaks, buffalo, roasted chicken and prime rib. At least they called it "prime rib" but I'd be very surprised if it was USDA prime (someone call the inspectors from the big Dept. of Agriculture campus down the street) - more like choice grade beef, which was cooked in a manner that simultaneously drained this noble cut of beef of all flavor while retaining all of the connective tissue internal in the meat. The accompanying garlic mashed potatoes were, well, dry and flavorless. Butter would have helped. Cream would have helped. Gravy would have helped. Maybe a new chef would have helped. They get a couple of points for the spacious bar with a decent selection of local beer as well as their 4 course dinner special ($18.68 for an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert). Having never eaten in Fort Collins before, I am sure you could do better.

atmosphere: 4 scene (for FC): 4 food and drink: 4 although the menu is pretty limited, what they do serve is tried and true, therefore you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. I am ALL about the buffalo salad. the buffalo salad is perfect-- every time (in excess of 20x... embarassing to admit...). it's tender buffalo medium rare, edamamde, and the BEST croutons which is their cornbread deep-fried ('nuff said!). appaetizers are pretty standard. i'll give those a 3. entrees, burgers are good. buffalo meatloaf.. you'd better be in the mood for meatloaf.. desserts are standard overly sweet, and over-sized. but they get the job done (3.5). plus, Thursday's are $2 local brews! gotta love O'Dells and New Belgium for being the same town as Austin's! As for going to the Austin's in Old Town (Mountain and College) versus going to the Austin's on Harmony (and Ziegler), the portions are bigger on Harmony and depending on the time of day, but the one in old town will almost always be busier/crowded/tighter. but good for people watching on the patio on a nice day/evening. thank goodness for heat lamps! def a good FC staple and local institution.

Came here with a Meet Up group for brunch. Hubby had the French Toast- I had to have a few bites like every good wife does. OMG- weeks later, I am still thinking about that french toast!! I had eggs benedict- it was great as far as benedicts go. Hubby and I also split a side of bacon and a basket of apple fritters. The bacon was delicious. Really thick and smokey. The fritters were about the size of donut holes and were clearly fresh. They were hot and delicious! I would definitely come here again when it gets warm to sit on the patio!

Great place for a decent meal on a patio for some good people watching! At first didn't think the place would be all that great, seemed to have that "generic" grill vibe to it where everything is blah, blah...steak, chops, cocktails, etc. with no real flair to it. I was mistaken though and pleasantly surprised with a great meal that didn't break the bank. These "grill" places usually seem to be a lot of huff n' puff with no real substance when it comes to the meals. My colleague had theirprime rib, a tad overcooked for his medium-rare request and my Quesadillas were salty as heck -- little overboard on the seasonings. Salads were excellent and the service was really great too, but again, seemed to be a lack of originality in the place, how many wood-trimmed restaurants can one really eat in?

I love their roasted chicken and prime rib. I've never had a bad experience at Austin's - always have friendly and prompt service and I've never been disappointed with the food. To the person who said this place was kid friendly though? Not so much. It's not the cheapest of places, and there's nothing worse than trying to have a nice meal with someone's kid running by your table. If you must take your kids at least make sure they're well behaved - this isn't McDonalds.

It was crowded and a little noisy (just like most of the restaurants in FoCo) with little kids running around, but I think it was "kid's eat free" day.

I do not send back food. ever. Well, I guess there's a first time for everything. I ordered the sirloin special, and [sadly] my meat was served room temperature and unseasoned. It just had to go back. Unfortunately, our server never checked on us to find this out, and I had to walk it back to the kitchen myself. I was not alone in my dismay. My perpetual eating companion ordered a burger, and grumbled unhappily after each bite. His meat too was poorly seasoned. "Wendy's makes a better burger," he mused aloud. Yeah. So, why two stars instead of one? Even though the server never brought us water, nor checked on us, the manager did comp my beer. I appreciate the smart customer service. Unfortunately, no amount of alcohol could assist in this situation. So, I just paid my check, tipped the waitress extremely well [as I figure she rarely received good tips] and left. I think I've left Austin's permanently.

What used to be a decent place is now on my blacklist. I ordered what I thought was the reliable buffalo salad, and it was horrendous. Instead of dark leafy greens, it came with iceberg lettuce. Instead of tender, generous chunks of buffalo, it came with a very small portion of chewy, poorly flavored buffalo. They used to get the amount of dressing just right, and this time it was soaked. I also had the hot fudge cream puff dessert and the cream puffs tasted stale. To their credit, when I asked if they had changed the salad recently, the manager (I assume) came out and asked if it was alright and if I wanted anything else. For me, the food is everything and if they can't recognize a good dish when they have one, then I won't be going back again.

You can hardly miss Austin's: Overflowing onto the main drag of downtown Fort Collins with plenty of outdoor seating. Very high end part of town, enjoyed walking up and down the main drag and just people watching from the restaurant. Plenty of outdoor seating for a nice sunny Colorado day. My drink was strong! It was my first time there and the bartender didn't know us at all and we still got strong drinks. Food was a little lacking - there was a special on appetizers so we got a few and it was lukewarm. Other than that, great experience and generally cheap for the location and the drinks we ordered. If I find myself in Fort Collins again, I'll definitely stop in.

I went into Austins with a group of 7, so 8 total. We called about 35 minutes in advance so they could be prepared. Once we got in, the male server was a bit harsh, blunt & impersonal. He then switched with another waitress so from the beginning we were feeling a bit uncomfortable. When our food came, the waitress spilled water on my friend. Accidents happen but she still brushed it off like no big deal. The steaks 3 of the 8 ordered were over salted & chewy. The vegetables were cold and mushy. I confronted the manager. He twitted his pencil behind a clipboard & preceded to argue with all of us when we told him how terrible of a service we had. I tried to ask him what grade of meat they carried & he had no idea. After me asking him twice, I feel as though he just picked a grade I named off. Terrible. I will never fucking go back there. We spent about $350 all together and the meals were worth about &150 all together.

Austin's worked out great for what we wanted. We needed to grab a quick dinner and the Women's World Cup final was on. We asked to be seated at a table with a view of the TV. They provided that efficiently and were very accommodating. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. It was happy hour as well so they had half price appetizers and some drink specials. I got a mojito and we ordered the cornbread with crab stuffed avocado. The cornbread was REALLY dry and just crumbled apart. I probably wouldn't get that again. The avocados were delish! What a great combination! I ordered the Cajun walleye and it was fab as well! We'd definitely stop back. It looks like they had a hopping patio too!

I took my fiance here to celebrate the end of our long distance and we were NOT disappointed. The wine was reasonably priced and phenomenal. I had one of the "Interesting Reds" our waiter Patrick recommended and it was perfect to pair with the Buffalo Meatloaf. My fiance had the rotisserie chicken and it melted in your mouth unlike any chicken we'd ever had. The mashed potatoes were worth popping 4 lactaid pills for a lactard like me. Patrick's service was really great, helpful and knowledgeable. And their system for getting in line for a table is really smooth and streamlined the process a lot. Great experience!

We stopped by here after trying to get into Ingredient right across the street (which was closed for some unknown reason). The menu seemed like pretty typical American style cuisine. We were there about 4 PM on a Friday during homecoming weekend, so was pretty busy. We were quickly seated in the waiter came by to take orders. We had a group of six and ordered a variety of dishes, including some split orders. The waiter didn't seem to mind all the special requests that our group had and everything came out perfectly to order. Prices seemed reasonable for a downtown spot. Would definitely return.

The patio was great, except that even under the cover a few of the people in our party still got rained on. We didn't actually find it too bothersome lol. The staff were all super polite and at least we didn't have to wait two hours to sit inside... :0) Honestly, I found Austin's to be OK. I felt like they didn't really live up to the hype though. I ordered the rotisserie chicken with the potatoes and coleslaw. The chicken was moist... but almost too moist... which I know sounds super weird... The mashed potatoes were killer. So good. Actually the best part of the whole meal... The coleslaw was pretty good too. My hubby ordered the ribs, and was so disappointed in them. They were extremely dry. Oddly opposite from my chicken. He described them as being like jerky... They were obviously cooked way too long. The staff offered to bring him something else and were very apologetic about it, but he declined to send it back. We don't usually like to send things back to the kitchen, no matter where we are. I'd love to come back another time though. The patio location is in a great spot for people watching and hanging out over a martini.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. I called ahead of time and made a reservation only to get there and then over hear the servers arguing about who was going to wait on our table. We had close to a 400 dollar bill because we were celebrating two birthdays and the waitress was rude, unprofessional and we could hear her complaining in the back of the kitchen. When we complained about all our food being cold she ignored our claim then knocked a glass of water over which spilled all over the table and two of the girls in my party. The water was most likely an accident however she didn't bring additional napkins to replace our wet ones nor did she replace the water glass that had spilled. When we asked to speak to the manager he came out and tried to argue with us rather than apologize for the service. I understand this is a college town and we are in our mid twenties but it was extremely obvious he judged us as being broke college kids and assumed we were just complaining to get a discount. We paid our full bill and left only to be stalked by our waitress who approached us at a neighboring restaurant and proceeded to harass us, trying to fight until she was kicked out by security. I have no idea what type of business they are trying to run or training they are providing for their servers but all new staff, food and atmosphere would do this place some good. Save yourself heartburn and avoid it at all costs.

Very busy restaurant so I see where the poor reviews come from for poor service and wait times. However the full dining room is justified by the quality and flavor of the food served. Sitting at the bar allowed us to sit right down and get service. Austin's menu had great variety offering a plate for any taste and providing a great value. The location is prime, right on College with plenty to watch if near the large windows or sitting outside on the patio.

This is a solid place in Old Town. Right on the corner, easy to find, nice decor and I like how you can see the rotisserie when you walk in. That really got my appetite going. I had the crab stuffed avocado for starters. It was was good but not great. It is a full avocado with just a little crab stuffed in it and lightly fried. I couldn't taste much of the crab because there was so much avocado. However, I like avocado so overall, not a bad appetizer. I had the rotisserie sirloin for my main dish. It was amazing! Tender, succulent, juicy....I'm getting hungry now from describing it. They also have rotisserie chicken which I will certainly get the next time I go.

There are many neat little places in Fort Collins, I would count Austin's as one of them. Not to big and pretty quaint. The interior brick is very neat. It is almost as if it was an outdoor restaurant that they enclosed. The decor is very well done. We felt at home and comfortable right away. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Kristi was our waitress. She did an excellent job of taking care of our every dining need. We started with the Jalapeno corn bread and a Spinach Artichoke dip. The corn bread was excellent. You know how the corn and jalapeno kind of meld together to give you a sweet flavor with a hint of spicy jalapeno, well that is what has happened here. Perfect. I had the Buffalo meatloaf. It was really very good, but I was disappointed with the ketchup drizzle. Really, ketchup. I know some people really like it that way, but it should be an option. How about a nice Demi Glace, or a brown gravy. Had they put a demi on my meatloaf, there would be 5 stars at the top of this review. The ketchup could have been spiced or doctored in some way, I am not sure. I did try it, but it seemed like just ketchup to me. OK, enough complaining, the real star was the meatloaf. If was really good. Cooked as expected with a nice char around the edges. Buffalo makes for a good meatloaf. This one was very good, I think I mentioned that above. They topped it with onion straws and a nice, slightly overdressed, slaw on the side. My wife had the Pork Tenderloin. Now that was great. I really like the Smoky raspberry sauce. Hmmm, maybe that could go on the meatloaf. The loin was cooked to perfection. It is so easy to overcook pork. That was not the case at all. Nice pink center. Melts in your mouth. I will probably have to order it the next time we go. When you are looking for a nice, somewhat formal, place to eat in old town, try out Austin's, it is really nice.

Stopped by while on my first visit I the area. I ordered the New York steak with a bake potato. Service was slow, but the food was great. The steak had a great flavor and was cooked to perfection. The side salad was basic, no complaints. I would visit again, this time hoping the service was quicker.

One of the best places to eat in the Fort. Both locations (Downtown and Harmony) are unequivocally great establishments. Downtown location is a little more noisy, but a great ambiance and scenery for people watching. I have never been disappointed in any food selection with Austin's. Great place for a team lunch, especially if you are working in Old Town Fort Collins. I had a salad that was fresh and lovely. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich, which he mostly liked except for the multi-grain bun (he isn't one for healthy types of food). The restaurant inside was classy and the waiters dressed smartly. Our service was great. The only complaint was that they wouldn't let us put two tables together so that our party of eight could eat together. We were seated right next to each other, so I don't quite understand what the problem was.

I love the atmosphere of Austin's. Great Fort Collins feel and a great restaurant. The first time I went I had the grilled buffalo burger which was only okay, and the service was so so. The second time I went the service was through the roof and the rotisserie chicken was amazing; moist with a nice crispy skin. The side of vegetables were the best cooked carrots I have ever had. Austin's is also very accommodating with larger parties.

A bit pricy for what you get. The atmosphere is cool, and our waiter was nice. The drinks were okay, but the appetizers were delish! The skillet cornbread and the coconut shrimp are where it's at!! I got the pork tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli for my main course. The potatoes and broccoli were good, and the sauce the pork was in was tasty, but the pork itself was a bit over cooked. We had a great time, but even with their 'unique' touches it still felt generic.

Went here on a nice summers night. Overall the food is good, it's just the price and portion sizes are outrageous. I had the lamb rotisserie, while the meat and gravy was good -- the pilaf was very dry. The others at the table had the chicken rotisserie, which tasted as good as the type of rotisserie chicken you can find at a supermarket like King Soopers. The big difference, is that you get the whole chicken and pay 1/4 of the price at the supermarket. The service was good. The outside atmosphere is mostly nice, except for the occasional loud mouth college students that litter the streets and sidewalks.

I go to Austins a few times a year. The food is consistently good, but only good, not great. The focus seems to be on quantity, which means we are always able to order one main between two people. The only real let-down here is the service, which can be anywhere from 'cheerful and competent' to 'scowls and glares and its-perpetually-my-first-day-as-a-server'. A little customer service training would go a long way. Take some tips from Stuft - those guys are on happy pills and they don't mind sharing!

I would have given them a 5 star rating if it were not for the smarmy attitude manifesting from the host. After some confusion, we were seated in a booth that seemingly accommodated 7 people. A little tight for my taste but it sufficed. The entrees were outstanding. Maybe it is a Colorado thing, but the few restaurants I visited, seemed to be above average in quality and flavor, at least compared to California. This restaurant was designed a bit weird if you ask me. It was narrow and long. Kind of cramped. Overall, it was a decent experience.

This place was surprisingly packed when we went here. We had to call ahead and make a reservation where they promptly seated us in the bar and not in the dining room. That was ok except there was only one server for around 8 tables making the service incredibly slow. The food was pretty decent. I had rotisserie chicken which was one of the cheapest things on the menu coming in at $13. It was well seasoned and tasted pretty good but was nothing super special and was not a lot of food at all. I got 2 wings and a breast. I did not go here expecting a high price place but it sure was that... I would have loved to try one of their steaks but I was not willing to drop $22 bucks for their cheapest cut and everything else that I would have liked was at least $16. My last complaint was the very small menu. A single page including deserts and appetizers. Not a whole lot of selection at all.

The food was great. I had an excellent prime rib. I asked for medium rare, and I got a real true, medium rare. Its not often that restraunts get the cooking of high quality meat correct, but they did. The service was fast, and we were seated on time. I called ahead for reservations and I recommend this, because the wait was quite long for people who were walk-ins. My drink was horrible, as was my girl's. I don't know if the bartender was having a bad day, but neither drink was correct. I'll ususally send it back if its wrong, but I didn't because we were in a hurry to eat and get to a movie. The price was pretty expensive, but its an upscale, nice place to eat. I'd definitely recommend it, but don't order a Tom Collins or a Mohito! Stick with an ice tea or soft drink. Can't mess those up!

Went here for brunch on Sunday- as the other spots in Ft Collins were packed. The brunch menu was pretty bad. They only had four or so breakfast items and each were very heavy. I was hoping that Austin's would have some lighter items - especially because I hate eating like a pig in the morning. The other problem with menu was that there was not too many lunch items. I ended up just ordering a Chicken Quesadilla. Like I said, everything else was too heavy and this was one of the lighter items on the menu. This quesadilla was listed on the appetizer menu - so maybe the problem with their brunch menu is that they have appetizers and not a complete breakfast menu. We also ordered french toast. This was way too heavy, but not too bad at all. Also, they were out of Mimosas.

I was on a flight from Seattle to Denver, and got to talking with the lady in the window seat when we realized that we graduated from CSU a few years apart. Her second question: "Does Austin's still have the portabello sandwich?" It's that good, people. Actually, I can't think of anything I don't like at Austin's. The location is great and service is always friendly. The dinner entrees are expensive, but it's fantastic for lunch or happy hour. All of the sandwiches are amazing-- the portabello, lamb sandwich, and buffalo burger are all stand-outs. Also, I have invested a serious amount of time trying to replicate their black and white chicken chili, but haven't managed it yet. If you go during happy hour, the mojito is the best I've had west of Florida, and the coconut shrimp and crab cakes are both delicious. One of my favorite places in Fort Collins; it was always one of my parents' favorites when they came to visit, too. Definitely a spot I'm nostalgic for.

Was there recently with a large group (about 12). Service was good but slow - 20 minutes to get drinks, another 15-20 minutes for appetizers. I rarely eat red meat but I do like buffalo, so I got the buffalo steak. My medium order came out medium rare, bordering on rare. All the food (except the baked potato) was barely warm. At that point I did not send it back; I figured the rareness gave me some leeway when re-heating the leftovers. It also definitely called for a very sharp knife - the toughest buffalo steak I've had. I had heard good things about Austin's, but I don't think I'll go back again (especially if I am paying!). I realize a large group can slow tings down some, but I've spent too many years in the restaurant industry to want to repeat slow service and so-so food.

So very few selections. My biggest problem with this restaurant is that my friends like the chicken, which I don't (how can something be greasy and dry?) and it's the cheapest thing on the menu. So when I come with them I can either order something mediocre and pay an above average price or just order a side salad (the main salads aren't good enough to fork out the hefty price) It makes dining out with friends rather not enjoyable, add in the opening of the main door when it's cold out and I'd advise to keep on your winter coat. This place gets a star for it's location (something you can't change) and a second star for it's happy hour, the only thing worth paying for on the menu in my opinion. More stars to come if they would offer better food for the prices they charge and if they had more to choose from.

I went here and decided to eat something on the lighter side of the plate the other day. I ordered a nice leafy salad with coconut shrimp on top of it. Very good combination! They gave me a nice hunk of cornbread too! While I enjoyed my meal I noticed with the coconut shrimp that they deep fry it most likely in the same bin as the french fries because there was a french fry stuck to my shrimp... or a french fry flew into the shrimp. lol! Not a big deal at all. I would recommend the salad to anyone who wants to eat lighter (greens with a hint of seafood)but with all of that bread, clear some extra room in your tummy for it.

A favorite place in Fort Collins for classic American cuisine. Started with the artichoke dip and crab cakes. Both were delicious but the crab cakes were small for the price, which is understandable considering our distance from the ocean, but the crabmeat was pleasantly fresh and tender. The artichoke dip was great with veggies, but the tortillas that accompanied didn't do it justice (and were a bit stale that night.) A crusty loaf of fresh bread would be a good swap for the chips. My three friends are big fans of their prime rib, which tasted perfectly tender and juicy. I've always been satisfied with their entree's whether it be the buffalo meatloaf with mashed potatoes , rotisserie chicken or just a bowl of soup. But this time I had the surprise of being amazed by their desserts! We ordered the white chocolate banana cream pie, the key lime pie and the creme brûlée. WOW! One was better than the rest and left us all smiling, satisfied and feeling a bit guilty. Next time at Austin's I may just order dessert first!

I guess something about not having turkey on Thanksgiving led me to order the turkey sammie with cranberry served here, a few days later. The sandwich is quite stuffed -- lots of layers of turkey. And I enjoyed it. It also came with more fries than I could eat. Bonus: The server got us in and out quickly, as we needed to catch a flight. We had been worried about doing a sit-down lunch, but they handled it smoothly and with no fuss. Other than that, this is your as-expected American bar food in an upscale-ish pub atmosphere... and there's not a thing wrong with that!

This is my favorite sit-down restaurant in Fort Collins! Both my husband and I had our college graduation dinners here, that is how much we love the food! Bah. Overpriced. Uninspired Food. It might as well be Bennigans. Crappy service: Both times we went here the service was pretty bad. They seemed more interested in socializing that actually giving a rat's ass about what the customers wanted (hey, how about a water refill). Also, the last time we were there, it took me walking up to our server to tell her that we had been seated 15 minutes ago before she came over and asked what we wanted to drink. Not worth my time or my money.

We have been here for lunch and dinner and had a great time. Most recently, we went with Dad (who is super picky) and he really enjoyed it too. I got the walleye (was craving fish and chips style so i just soaked everything in malt vinegar) and it was great! Four well sized pieces of fish and plenty of fries. My boyfriend got the buffalo burger and my Dad got the chipolte chicken salad. Both cleaned their plates. We also had a few rounds of beer. They have all the local favorites. The service was fine and the ambiance is just warming and cozy which I love. I have ordered the french dip before which was really dry and bland, but otherwise, great place!

So I am a little bit biased. I can't say why, but trust me, I am. However, regardless of my favoritism, Austin's has a great menu, a great happy hour, and an awesome patio, maybe even the best one in Fort Collins. Moo-ing Steaks and a Man in a Red Dress! 7:30 on the last Saturday night of Great Plates, we were given a 45 min to 1 hour wait for a party of two. Of course, did we expect anything different? After about 5 minutes we were able to snag 2 seats at the bar and were immediately greeted by an enthusiastic bartender. They don't have ginger ale, they fake it, but they put it bitters to give it a kick. Bitters from the British West Indies, is basically alcohol, sucrose, and gentian extract (the bitterness comes from this plant). It was ok flavor, but it certainly not passable for ginger ale. We ordered identical dinners of Prime Rib, med/rare, and substituted garlic mashers for the baked. Our meat was bright red and still moo-ing when they brought it to the table, but I'm an adventurous eater, so I just smeared it with horseradish, bellied up and dug in. The horseradish had an interesting effect. After a few minutes, my meat was no longer bloody and raw. Anybody know about this? Does it "cook" or cure the meat the same way that lime cooks ceviche? At the end of the dinner I had a nice pile of uneaten zucchini (my own personal yech) on my plate, as well as a mound of greasy fat (redundant, I know) and stringy connective tissue. I hate to say it, but my cut of prime rib from Johnson's Corner was better. The highlight of the evening was when a very tall, very NOT feminine man in full drag came in and sat down beside me at the bar. Now, I'm a citified girl and would have turned and tipped my glass to "her" but I was too busy smacking my husband who let out an all-too-audible "holy mackerel" under his breath. And I think I heard the bartender address him as "sir", eep! BTW, the man in the red dress was way more interesting than the dessert menu.

Updated as of 8.28.2011: While everything below is still somewhat true, the poor management of this restaurant has resulted in a major downgrade as the experience is very unreliable. About 50% of the time it has been good, and 50% unsatisfactory which I blame entirely on the management - which is second rate at best. Our hostess was rude the last time we went and the brunch food was quite greasy, on a separate occasion we were served well done beef when we ordered rare etc. I have had the manager come by our table before and they seemed ungenuine. I wish this place would have more pride in their service and be more consistent with their product. When they have a good night it is very good - but I can't risk taking people here anymore. This is one of our favorite places to go out to dinner. The atmosphere inside is nice and warm with exposed brick walls and an open rotisserie in the middle of the entrance. The bartenders are nice if you want to get a drink while you wait. The patio is large and also a great place to sit if the weather is nice. the food here is typically delicious - I have enjoyed the buffalo salad, rotisserie chicken, crab cake appetizer, french dip sandwich and burgers. The doli stoli martini is also very tasty and has a good kick to it. But there are some misses - The salmon was very fishy and not good, the rotisserie sirloin comes pre-sliced on your plate in a less than impressive portion and the ribs are waaaay over seasoned so you can't taste the meat. Overall - its a good place with a nice atmosphere but the menu can be hit and miss.

Delightful atmosphere, great location, and friendly service means I'll return to this place to try their specialties (roasted chicken and steak).

The only times I can actually afford going to Austin's is during the Great Plate's deal. I went last year and again this year. Last year my husband got the prime rib and loved it, though I don't even remember what I got (I think it was the salmon). Obviously, it wasn't good enough to make an impression. This year we went again with some friends and we all got the prime rib since it was such a great deal. I thought it was just okay, I've definitely made a better prime rib myself at home. My husband even commented that the prime rib was better the year before. The veggies didn't have much flavor and they were cold. Our server was also very lack-luster. Definitely not the type of service you would expect to get a restaurant that charges almost $20 for an entree. To sum it up: Okay food that is a bit pricey with alright service, but maybe an okay place to impress a date or for a business lunch.

I was looking to not spend a lot this night since I was in the middle of a week-long trip. And the prices here aren't the most budgeted, but not too pricey either. The service was very good and we were shown in and waited on rather frequently asking how things were and if we'd like anything else. I got the Fat Tire Cheese Soup (had to try it with the New Belgium brewery just down the street). Thumbs up for their soup! I should've gotten a bowl instead of a cup. Can't exactly taste the Fat Tire, but I guess that's just a cooking seasoning. I also got the Blue Cheese Salad, which was rather disappointing. NOTE that they barely have any blue cheese in it...just a few crumbles. And it seemed to have too much oil dressing (not even blue cheese dressing). I borrowed my friend's blue cheese dressing from his buffalo wings. There were a lot of other items in the salad and it was an okay salad, but just not what I was expecting. I'd come back here again, but just not order the Blue Cheese Salad again.

really a 2.5 but, I have to agree with one of the other reviewers on Austins... I was disappointed. Two colleagues of mine were referred here for dinner. We were seated, though uncomfortably in the center of the restaurant. I had the salmon which was good, but not good enough for the price. It did feel like a chain restaurant... from the decor to the menu. It is supposed to be an American steak house - grilled salmon, Delmonico steaks, roasted chicken and prime rib. However, my co-workers ordered the steaks and felt like our hotel (the Marriott on Horsetooth - which has bomb rib-eye with mushroom onion hash) had a much better steak. I would say that dessert and the port saved me from rating this lower. I don't think I will return here except for dessert, port, and drinks, but others might really like it.

This used to be my place to grab a pint after work and I miss it. The atmosphere was always nice and the staff was always personable. I highly recommend going during HH, they have great drink and food specials on the weekdays. Gets pretty packed due to the great patio but if you are smart you can usually get a spot to drink and grub. They have a great selection of beer and for the ladies they have a healthy variety of fruity martinis. Also try the mojitos, they can get you into trouble they are so good.

I was shocked to find out that Austin's American Grill wasn't owned by Chili's, Applebee's or Friday's, because it just smacked of being a chain restaurant. Even the menus look like they were built by a marketing team - corporate and bereft of character. Austin's is, essentially, a steak house - offering grilled salmon, delmonico steaks, buffalo, roasted chicken and prime rib. At least they called it "prime rib" but I'd be very surprised if it was USDA prime (someone call the inspectors from the big Dept. of Agriculture campus down the street) - more like choice grade beef, which was cooked in a manner that simultaneously drained this noble cut of beef of all flavor while retaining all of the connective tissue internal in the meat. The accompanying garlic mashed potatoes were, well, dry and flavorless. Butter would have helped. Cream would have helped. Gravy would have helped. Maybe a new chef would have helped. They get a couple of points for the spacious bar with a decent selection of local beer as well as their 4 course dinner special ($18.68 for an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert). Having never eaten in Fort Collins before, I am sure you could do better.

I am ALL about the buffalo salad. the buffalo salad is perfect-- every time (in excess of 20x... embarassing to admit...). it's tender buffalo medium rare, edamamde, and the BEST croutons which is their cornbread deep-fried ('nuff said!). appaetizers are pretty standard. i'll give those a 3. entrees, burgers are good. buffalo meatloaf.. you'd better be in the mood for meatloaf.. desserts are standard overly sweet, and over-sized. but they get the job done (3.5). plus, Thursday's are $2 local brews! gotta love O'Dells and New Belgium for being the same town as Austin's! As for going to the Austin's in Old Town (Mountain and College) versus going to the Austin's on Harmony (and Ziegler), the portions are bigger on Harmony and depending on the time of day, but the one in old town will almost always be busier/crowded/tighter. but good for people watching on the patio on a nice day/evening. thank goodness for heat lamps! def a good FC staple and local institution.

The buffalo entrees is what is most interesting about this very respectable place to eat. I enjoyed the buffalo meatloaf and it was tasty and filling. It was A little dried out but I figured it would be since buffalo is leaner than beef. Good mix of people dining as well.

Love this place! Great food. I love the buffalo budget and also the portabella mushroom sandwich. Good location and ample outside seating. Very good whisky soar.

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Fort Collins. The food is always spot on! A few of my faves are the Portobello burger and the French Onion soup. The service is always great and I love the ambiance inside at night. The patio is always great for people watching too.

Came here with a Meet Up group for brunch. Hubby had the French Toast- I had to have a few bites like every good wife does. OMG- weeks later, I am still thinking about that french toast!! I had eggs benedict- it was great as far as benedicts go. Hubby and I also split a side of bacon and a basket of apple fritters. The bacon was delicious. Really thick and smokey. The fritters were about the size of donut holes and were clearly fresh. They were hot and delicious! I would definitely come here again when it gets warm to sit on the patio!

Great place for a decent meal on a patio for some good people watching! At first didn't think the place would be all that great, seemed to have that "generic" grill vibe to it where everything is blah, blah...steak, chops, cocktails, etc. with no real flair to it. I was mistaken though and pleasantly surprised with a great meal that didn't break the bank. These "grill" places usually seem to be a lot of huff n' puff with no real substance when it comes to the meals. My colleague had theirprime rib, a tad overcooked for his medium-rare request and my Quesadillas were salty as heck -- little overboard on the seasonings. Salads were excellent and the service was really great too, but again, seemed to be a lack of originality in the place, how many wood-trimmed restaurants can one really eat in?

I love their roasted chicken and prime rib. I've never had a bad experience at Austin's - always have friendly and prompt service and I've never been disappointed with the food. To the person who said this place was kid friendly though? Not so much. It's not the cheapest of places, and there's nothing worse than trying to have a nice meal with someone's kid running by your table. If you must take your kids at least make sure they're well behaved - this isn't McDonalds.

It was like eating at an expensive Denny's. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great - pretty bland, not memorable, presentation was . . . just food on a plate. A little too expensive for what I got. It was crowded and a little noisy (just like most of the restaurants in FoCo) with little kids running around, but I think it was "kid's eat free" day.

I do not send back food. ever. Well, I guess there's a first time for everything. I ordered the sirloin special, and [sadly] my meat was served room temperature and unseasoned. It just had to go back. Unfortunately, our server never checked on us to find this out, and I had to walk it back to the kitchen myself. I was not alone in my dismay. My perpetual eating companion ordered a burger, and grumbled unhappily after each bite. His meat too was poorly seasoned. "Wendy's makes a better burger," he mused aloud. Yeah. So, why two stars instead of one? Even though the server never brought us water, nor checked on us, the manager did comp my beer. I appreciate the smart customer service. Unfortunately, no amount of alcohol could assist in this situation. So, I just paid my check, tipped the waitress extremely well [as I figure she rarely received good tips] and left. I think I've left Austin's permanently.

What used to be a decent place is now on my blacklist. I ordered what I thought was the reliable buffalo salad, and it was horrendous. Instead of dark leafy greens, it came with iceberg lettuce. Instead of tender, generous chunks of buffalo, it came with a very small portion of chewy, poorly flavored buffalo. They used to get the amount of dressing just right, and this time it was soaked. I also had the hot fudge cream puff dessert and the cream puffs tasted stale. To their credit, when I asked if they had changed the salad recently, the manager (I assume) came out and asked if it was alright and if I wanted anything else. For me, the food is everything and if they can't recognize a good dish when they have one, then I won't be going back again.
