Absolutely fabulous! Service was so wonderful. Desert (apple crepes) and house salad was really the best I've had in awhile. My steak was a bit overlooked, but the potato was wonderful. And, it was organic grass fed etc. Really, I can't recommend this place enough. Good job!

Treated well and lots of locally grown food! This place was amazing! We were traveling to South Western Colorado for a vacation and we stopped here. The staff treated us quite well. The food was fantastic and we had a great time here. Highly recommended!

We stopped here to check it out since it was a historic place in an old hotel. The restaurant and bar are spacious and nearly empty for lunch when we showed up. The staff wasn't that pleasant, maybe it was a bad day. I wasn't overly impressed with the ambiance or the cleanliness of the place as a whole. The bathrooms were out of supplies and pretty dirty. The bar was duvet and I'm sure it's fun at night. I wouldn't really recommend this place, but it was cool to see the old building and see how historic it is. The food was so-so.

New ownership has done a wonderful job in three short months. Check dates on old reviews, most are irrelevant and star rating is misleading. Menu is limited but very high quality organic options. Salad was outstanding with berries, nuts and excellent dressing. Lemon chicken entree had light and flavorful sauce. Server, Trina, was attentive and friendly. Bread was a bit over done, but probably didn't need it anyway!

This place makes me wish Yelp allowed ZERO STARS. I have NEVER disliked my food in my whole life. And this is searching back through my memory of Mom's Spam Fried Rice and canned Chop Suey dinner. Yuck! Anyway, (my mom is actually a very good cook, just misplaced her brains sometimes when coming up with dinner on the fly when we were kids) - When we were seated we were told that they were out of the potato soup, fish and chips and fried chicken. We were the only ones there at first, but while we were waiting for our food, a guy by himself and a two-some of older ladies joined us. I ordered a grilled cheese and a cup of the tomato basil soup. The BF got a burger with fries. My grilled cheese - COLD. How do you mess up a grilled cheese? My soup - curdled looking, weird-tasting and apparently my CUP of soup ended the tomato basil soup enjoyment for the rest of the day as the man that came in after us ordered it and the waitress said "We just ran out". Yuckyuckyuck. So I'm presuming I got whatever they could scrape off the bottom of the pot. BF's burger - he said was alright, nothing to write home about. The french fries were DISGUSTING. Their fryers must not have been working because it was like they were fried two days ago then left in the oven to warm. The place is creepy and without charm. The waitress could use a little enthusiasm seeing as we were two of probably ten people that came in that day. You can't make a living off a waitress wage without tips, gal. The cooking is awful and the food is overpriced and less than desirable. The Middle Fork left me worrying that I would get sick next to my car on the way to our vacation in South Fork and also curious about who on earth would have eaten them out of potato soup, fish/chips and fried chicken by 1pm. Ugh.

My friend's mom actually recommended this place. It took us a while to decipher her description, but we finally arrived to the Middle Fork Restaurant in The Fairplay Valiton Hotel. The only hint outside: "Restaurant". It was empty as we walked inside and the floor creaked loudly announcing our presence. We were looking for hearty fare before we tackled our midnight San Luis hike. I ordered the meatloaf platter with mashed potatoes. My friend got the Valiton chicken with pork green chili. The potatoes were very tasty and well seasoned. Both of us received broccoli with our dishes. This came with a nice white sauce. The meatloaf was quite savory especially with the crispy onion strings on top. The Valiton chicken came without mushrooms. The bacon was crispy, mustard providing a nice tanginess, the green chili bland. Overall, it was quite filling. There is a sports bar in the back with a huge widescreen television.

Look for the Fairplay hotel, you will never find it by the restaurant name. We went there for brunch. My BF had "the best G-D burrito " he ever had. I had a normal breakfast, just the usual egg and sausage breakfast. The atmosphere is the real winner. This hotel was established in 1873 but burned down in 1920 and rebuilt. I loved the creaky wood floors and the old lobby. It was built as a retreat for people to come for the fresh mountain air. I guess they had dirty air back in 1873. The place is supposed to be haunted by a lady named Juia. She must have had the day off since we never saw her. :) Great food, great atmosphere.
