Best BBQ I've had in Colorado. The ribs are great! Apps are fantastic, too! We've been there several times and loved it. However, this last time they were out of ribs, so we ended up with brisket and pulled pork. Not our favs, but still decent. Love mixing the switchback standard and mule sauces together, for the perfect sauce! Love the location along the creek. Highly recommend!

No frills, order at the front so don't expect more... The patio sits creek side and they they could certainly do a lot more with the place but the BBQ was AMAZING and I will definitely be going back since they were out of several items I wanted to try.

Wow! I love this place. It's very deceiving from the outside, you have no idea this place could put out such amazing food. After 4 recent visits we love the duck breast, watermelon salad and ribs. All the sauces are very tasty, but the smoke meat is so good you hardly need the sauce. It's very , very casual but expect friendly staff and great food!!

Best bbq by far on the Front Range! Everything on the menu is terrific. I typically get the Devil's Elbow sandwich but I think I've tried just about everything they have and it's all good. Great selection of sides to complete your meal. Outdoor seating when the weather is nice has a beautiful setting, right next to Bear Creek. The guys are friendly and helpful, don't be afraid to ask questions. Make sure you get there early on the weekends, they buy their meat fresh every day and when they run out, they're out.

We went on Sunday after climbing Mt. Elbert. We were famished and ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a brisket sandwich, smoked chicken wings and goat cheese stuffed dates. It was all amazingly good and really hit the spot. My favorites were the pulled pork and the chicken wings. They only do the wings on Sundays and they aren't on the menu - so I would go on a Sunday if you can and ask for the wings. I thought they were some of the best wings I've eaten. The service is great - one of the staff brought a pig ear out to us for our dog who was hanging out with us on the patio. Definitely stop by Switchback Smokehouse if you are nearby.

Fries zucchini and pickles were great. Rootbeer BBQ was a surprise but totally enjoyable.

We went for dinner on a Saturday night. It was 5:00 ish and they were out of more than half the menu. I get that you run out of things, but that many items at 5:00 on a Saturday??? There were 4 in our party. The first one's salad came out almost immediately, 10 minutes later two others meals, including ice cold beans, and finally a full twenty minutes after the first meal was served the pulled chicken sandwich arrived, really????? Meanwhile a couple sat behind us and were served their entire meal together within 5 minutes. It was a very poor service experience for us. Personally, I don't care how .good the food is, if I get bad service, you're off my list...

Its a four star on its own but gets a five when compared to the horrible BBQ that is in this area in general. Sweet beans good. Elk sausage nice. Bizarre smoked chicken sandwich "Punky Rooster" was excellent. Every bite tasted different. Smoked drumstick and leg were okay. Key lime pie was teeny.
(4)Gabe R.
10 out of 10. Not much else needs to be said. The ambience is just as good as the BBQ. These boys from Michigan know their BBQ. Darryl, the owner and mater griller is the man, him and his staff will treat you right. 10 minutes from Red Rocks and on Bear Creek.
(5)K M.
Delicious! The duck salad was huge and fresh; the dressing was really good and the smoked duck breast was delicious. The pulled pork sandwich was enormous and very tasty. Their smoking technique is great, the meats were moist and had a delicious, sweet smoke flavor.

Where can you sit stream side, not wait for a table, bring your dogs, and have decent BBQ? Switchback Smokehouse in Kittredge. We ended up here after being tossed from an Evergreen spot that first said dogs were ok on the patio, but then decided dogs were not ok. All for the better. Try this spot if you are in the area.

Great meal! Ordered takeout. Super friendly service. Excellent chicken, salmon, & dates. Brisket was good, but not quite what I am used to (Texas-style). I thought the prices were a tad on the high side, but reasonable. We will be back here often.
(4)Jeremy C.
My wife and I took a leisurely drive out to this place as part of our continuing mission to try to find decent BBQ. We got pretty much one of everything... and regretted every bit of it. The ribs were burned. Not a little bit of tasty char but burned to the bone in places. The brisket reminded me of a corned beef out of a bag. The elk sausage was OK but that's not saying very much. It certainly wasn't any better than just a plain grilled kielbasa. The waffle fries were soggy, the baked beans were terrible and the mac and cheese was watery. The cornbread was underdone and raw in the middle. For what it costs for a family to eat here you could buy yourself a cheap grill and make your own BBQ that's at least as good was what you'll eat at this place. Even if you're a blind quadriplegic.

I've been to a few good southern BBQ spots in my life. Grew up in Georgia and have been stationed in South Carolina, Virginia. I'd say that, the pulled pork sandwich we had from here did not need any BBQ sauce and this is a good thing. Our sandwiches were pilled high and topped with a nice coleslaw. But, if you want some sauce on that, go for it, the sauces are great as well. Happy with the place and it a great place to get BBQ anytime. P.S. If you sit outside they'll allow your dog to sit with you.

Went there the other night for dinner. It was our first time there. The staff asked us if we had been there before and explained their menu. Everyone was very friendly. You order at the counter as you walk in, and in about 5-10 minutes our food was delivered to our table. They give you real silverware, but everything else was paper plates or bowls. The décor isn't much, but it was clean. They have outside seating near the creek when the weather is warmer. For reference, this is the old Dick's Hickory Dock location. We thought the food was very good. We had their Brisket Montreal Style (which they say is not your traditional brisket). It looked more like pastrami and we thought it was excellent. We also ordered a rack of St. Louis Style Cut Spare Ribs which we also thought were excellent. There is a dry rub on the ribs and you get your choice of 4 sauces on the side. My son order the Broken Rover sandwich. It was HUGE. It had the Montreal Smoked Brisket on a Broche Bun and a side. We had three side, the waffle fries which were excellent, sweet potato fries which were also very good and the Cole Slaw which we didn't like (tasted like it has too much celery salt and mustard). It wasn't cheap ($49 for three before tip) but it was good and we got a lot of meat (my son took half his sandwich home, and we too 1/4 slab of ribs home). We enjoyed our meal and we will return.

Stopped in after a bike ride and passing it many times. Glad we did! I was very pleased with the attitude and enthusiasm of the crew there and man, what a perfect setting they have. Right along the creek, outdoor seating, quiet Kittredge. I was happy with everything we had and I especially liked the bbq sauce variations they offered from different regions of the country. We'll be back.
(4)Tiffany C.
BEST BBQ near Denver, hands down! From the moment we walked in the door we fell in love with this place! The immediate greet and recommendations from the host were wonderful. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich topped with the best coleslaw and the ribs plate. Both were amazing. The Standard BBQ sauce and the Mule BBQ sauce (which has a great kick) are craveable! The portions are gigantic too, so come hungry! You also can't beat their prices! We sat outside and watched many elk roll by and listened to the charming creek that the restaurant backs to. Beautiful location on top of AMAZING BBQ! Also, try the fried pickles...best I've ever had!
(5)Jay J.
We love this place. I grew up with the historic "Dick's Hickory Dock" known for the best BBQ in the front range. I watched the property struggle with several different owners till finally Switchback opened. I watched as they did a full remodel of the property and was so impressed when we finally tried the bbq. Dicks holds nothing to this. We love the Broken Rover sandwich with beans or fries. After the 9/13/13 flood we heard they got hit hard and wanted to support our beer drinking, meat smoking friends. It was great again. I had the ribs. Perfect. I travel the country and love BBQ. These ribs were amazing, to equal anything I have had in Texas or any other "BBQ" state. Dry rub with a perfect smoke flavor. Dont be fooled by the small size, or the half empty parking lot. This is a gem of the front range. The owners have chosen to build the business by word of mouth and not some miss leading "living social" deal. So step up and try it. Props to the Michigan boys tying to make their dreams come true, drinking beer and smoking meat on a mountain stream in Colorado. Eat here... it is as good as it gets.
(5)Betsy V.
This new BBQ joint is run by a couple of guys from Michigan who like to drink beer and smoke meat. What better place to do that than in our little town of Kittredge! We were there the week it opened and the menus was still a work in progress but what we did have was delicious. A month later the menu was expanded and perfected, although I get the feeling that it will be a revolving, evolving menu. They have 4 or 5 different BBQ sauces. Clearly handcrafted recipes made right there on site! I personally like the Switchback Standard which is rich and spicy as well as the hot mustard one but they are all delicious! There are some really great salads for the herbivore crowd too. On our first trip we were going to order a large salad to share and were informed that that would be entire head of Romaine lettuce! In addition to the great food, their patio will be awesome in the summer. This place is definitely worth your drive up the hill. Bring a bunch of friends and order a variety of smoke meats sold by the quarter pound for the table.
(5)Rachel S.
With quite the selection of delicious smoked meats and plenty of sides to enjoy...the key is to wear sweatpants. The recently opened Switchback Smokehouse is the newest best thing to happen to Kittridge, the tiny town located between Morrison and Evergreen. I would recommend the Rooster Booster with the fried pickles and the homemade barbecue sauce with a side of switchmac and cheese or the montreal style brisket with baked beans. The chalk board menu features the comfort food they will surely become known for and the dining room and bar have a casual Colorado feel. Nothing will beat washing down the smokehouse flavor with the Canadian lager Kokonee on tap, can't wait to do it again on that incredible patio. Wherever you choose to eat it, Switchback Smokehouse should not be missed. PS if traveling up the hill, beware of elk crossings and that notorious speed trap just outside of Morrison.
(5)XY Z.
We happened upon the Switchback Smokehouse on our way down the hill from Evergreen to Littleton. It was amazing! (And we consider ourselves BBQ snobs!) I had the pulled pork sandwich and my husband had the brisket. All of our sides were top notch too: cole slaw, sweet potato fries and goat cheese stuffed dates. The seating right next to Bear Creek Lake was lovely and relaxing. We will definitely be going back here and have already recommended this place to family!
(5)Don K.
Tried the Switchback Smokehouse for the first time while on a weekend trip to the Denver area. Our group ordered the following for lunch: half slab of ribs, pulled pork sandwich, duck salad and watermelon salad. All four of us agreed the food was superb. Great little place on the River with a young staff very willing to please. My only regret is that it is not a little closer to the city but it was a beautiful ride up and back. We will definitely return on our next visit.
(5)Hill E.
Everything is good! Fresh greens, good sides, good sauces, and the BBQ is UHmazing!!!!
(4)Foodie C.
Pros: Really like this place. They take their BBQ seriously. Great staff, great flavor, great food selection, great drinks, great location. They have a great selection of good beer and our favorite shwag throw-backs. Cons: I'll get back to you when I come up with one.
(5)Claire F.
We were driving through Kittredge on our way home from a hike, discussing what we could make for dinner at home because we were starving. When we drove by Switchback Smokehouse we could smell the scent of the smoked meats. We pulled over, looked up the place on Yelp to see their menu, and turned around. We both tried the Devil's Elbow - a pile of pulled pork topped with cole slaw on a buttery bun. You can get fried pickles and fried onions, too, and it comes with a side, or you can upcharge $1 to get any of their side dishes. I got the mac 'n' cheese, hubby got the sweet potato fries. Then you also get to pick a sauce from a selection of about 5 or 6 different sauces. Everything was so delicious. The sandwiches are huge so bring a big appetite. The food came out quick, too. The staff was super friendly. It was a great experience all around and the food, oh man, was so very good. Highly recommend it!
(5)Sara B.
My family and I were on a Thanksgiving trip to Denver and took an afternoon sightseeing trip out by Red Rocks. We were lucky enough to stumble upon Switchback! The Devil's Elbow hit the spot! Their sauces were delightful, the pulled pork was heavenly! This is a must eat if you are in the Denver area!!!
(5)Jill S.
We moved here from Texas, so BBQ has a fairly high standard but we were impressed by the flavors and the service was good. The brisket was different, but they warned us when ordering and it was still very tasty. The portions are small and the prices a bit high but the service is great - and we will be back!
(4)Marilyn S.
This place was recommended by some friends so we decided to take a Sunday drive and check it out. It was definitely worth the drive and we'll be going again soon. Great pulled smoked Chicken Breast that was done perfectly - tender and moist! Great flavor! I had the cucumber salad which was a great as well. Hubby had the Mount Royal, a massive amount of smoked brisket piled high on rye bread and a schmear of spicy mustard. The waffle fries were wonderful as well...nice and crisp! I highly recommend this quaint little place if you're taking a drive in the mountains and find yourself in the Kittredge/Evergreen area.
(5)Frank K.
Had never experienced "Montreal Style" Brisket and yes it 's pink and looks more like Pastrami than "Texas Style" Brisket. The brisket is seasoned with a dry rub and smoked, but has a different flavor, color and texture. I personally found it to be a great twist on BBQ brisket and really enjoyed it! We also sampled the Pork Spare Ribs and ordered them "St Louis Style" with no sauce. The ribs were cooked perfectly and had a traditional flavor. Contrary to other reviewers we experienced some of the best pork ribs we have ever had. The side items are freshly made in house and taste amazing too. We shared sides of the Dill Potato Salad & the Cool Cucumber Salad. Also noteworthy is the home brewed "Sweetened Sun Tea" served in a Mason Jar. Discussing the concept and cooking styles with Luke made our visit delightful. We thought the creative menu really sets this place apart. IMO Switchback Smokehouse is terrific!
(5)Brian G.
This might be the best meal since I've moved here from Chicago. I don't understand the negative reviews, maybe some people are looking for the McRib? Everything we had was fabulous. To start, the vibe is laid back but well done. This could easily pass for a restaurant in Chicago, but no pretentiousness. The beer selection was great, Old Style, Stroh's, Labatt, plus nice craft brews. The staff was friendly and willing to give a sample to point you in the right direction. The food was amazing, ribs were smoky, but had a nice char on them, my wife had the pulled pork with fried pickles and slaw on top. It was all amazing, the sides are superb, you really can't go wrong with anything here.
(5)Ken U.
Great outdoor patio next to Bear Creek with sun and shade options. Nice bbq smokey smell upon parking. We ordered a pulled chicken and pulled pork sand which. Meat was tender and flavorful. Fried pickle added a unique twist to the sandwhich. Interesting flavors for bbq sauce; tried the hot and the root beer. Would stop again.

I absolutely love supporting local non chain restaurants! I have noticed this place a couple times while driving by after a beautiful hike. I enjoy places in smaller towns that seem to have so much character. This place is situated on the creek and there is outside seating to soak in the outdoors and listen to the soothing whir of the water. We first had a drink from the bar. A craft beer and a hot toddy;many unique drinks on the menu as well as Colorado brewed crafts. I was so excited when the drinks were served in mason jars! This made me smile. Now to the food...a super delicious, flavorful, moist pulled pork sandwhich piled high with coleslaw and choice of fried pickles or onions, served with waffle fries for only $9. Great price, great food, great atmosphere, great attitude, great place! I can't wait to go back and listen to some live music while sipping a cocktail and eating ahhhhmazing food. Thanks guys for opening such a cool place. Stay real! :)
(4)Deborah W.
Wow! We were totally impressed with everything we had at Switchback! Top notch brisket, pulled pork and sangria! Service was exceptional... So happy they survived the flood last week!
(5)Doug M.
This place I would rate more 3.5 end but for some reasons not allowing me to do that. Good food. Ribs good flavor maybe not competition but good. Slaw had some heart put in it. Brisket was cold. Good selection of tasty sauces .. Friend zuc and pickles very good.. Sat but the stream.. Was a nice feel. Service was excellent very friendly. elk Sausage was decent seemed a little cold also.
(4)Melinda P.
We have been going to restaurants at this site for years and were somewhat skeptical when we pulled up to a nearly empty parking lot on a summer Saturday around noon. But it was totally delicious! The pulled pork was tender and smoky as was the pulled chicken. The coleslaw was almost a little spicy with mustard seeds and a creamy sauce. The BBQ sauce was unbelievable. Also tried the sweet potato fries, which were great. Nice beer list also. Service fast and friendly, and it is creekside -- dogs allowed on the patio! Very clean also. The prices are a little steep, but you get what you pay for -- generous helpings of well-prepared, delicious barbecue. Definitely worth trying!
(5)Molly R.
So happy to have a fantastic restaurant in the neighborhood! GREAT whiskey, Delicious beer, and PHENOMENAL barbeque! They know what they're doin' over there!
(5)Jeffrey G.
As a Kansas City BBQ enthusiast, Switchback offers a lot of new and unique flavors. Truly great dishes at very reasonable prices. The Montreal brisket with the root beer BBQ sauce is probably my favorite. Nice ambiance and an awesome creekside patio for nice Colorado afternoons. Say hi to Mark at the bar and enjoy a Kokanee on draft. This place is worth a trip.
(5)Jessica B.
Delicious! The drive up the hill while a little sketchy in some parts but pretty in others was definitely worth it. We had the devil's elbow, Mount Royal, and the elk sausage and it was all excellent. Cool place to hangout and drink as well. A must go!
(5)Drew S.
Stopped by this week while I was on vacation driving through the Rockies. They had just opened the other day and you couldn't eve tell! I have always been a fan of good BBQ joints and I must say Switchback was great BBQ. Don't miss this place if you are in the area! Looking forward to returning on vacation next fall.
(5)Dustin L.
Just wanted to add that in the latest JeffCo health inspection Switchback was one of the 80439 restaurants with the least amount of violations, only 1. While I really don't care for the brisket the place must be run in a professional manner. Props for that.
(2)Matt H.
Created a yelp account just to give this place a great review. This place was a constant disappointment for the better part of the last decade. I'm happy to say that it's back. They've overhauled just about everything about the place. It's the great BBQ joint on the creeks hat it was destined to be. The pulled pork sandwich with fried pickles and slaw was as good as any I've had. Add on the freshly made sun tea and great BBQ black beans and this was a damn good meal. But it s not just a meat joint. The smoked duck salad with walnuts and goat cheese was perfectly done. Even the smoked frank that our little guys had were great. Mark, the owner was awesome. We're already thinking about when we can get back for more.
(4)Shad P.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with root beer bbq sauce and it was great. I also had the sweet potato french fries and they were amazing. Service and ambiance was great. I highly recommend Switchback Smokehouse.
(5)Evan P.
This is the best barbecue I've ever had, actually. Not just the best Denver-area BBQ. Not the best Colorado BBQ. The. Best. BBQ. Unfortunately the word is out about this place, so you can pretty much forget going during a weekend afternoon unless you're willing to spend a few hours waiting in line, then waiting for food. I highly recommend showing up at opening, grabbing some brisket, pulled pork, or natural chicken, pairing with their spicy Mule or mustard-based sauce, and driving to a nearby park or forest to enjoy it. Or, come on a weekday and experience Switchback the way it was meant to be experienced!
(5)Evan L.
Every time I come here, the food is great (I get the salmon), the staff is friendly, and the line is out the door. I love how healthy it is, even though it is technically a barbecue joint (the salmon is nestled on a bed of spring greens). I also love the coleslaw, of all things! I hate mayonnaise, and the coleslaw either hides the taste of mayo very well or it is dairy-based instead. The location next to the creek is also splendid and well-lighted! Also, pretty much all of their wood is donated, so if you happen to chop down a fruit tree, keep these guys in mind!
(5)Sutton C.
This place is killer. Serious smoke flavor and tons of options. Smoked Duck breast?! Heck yes. Ribs are awesome and the outer layer is crispy so you can tell these guys really know how to finish them. It's not often that you find bbq that doesn't require sauce, but it's also very good! We will be back!
(5)D W.
I've been here probably 5 times in the last month. Great food, verrry smokey BBQ flavor on the meat. I love it because - good to great food, fantastic outdoor setting right on the creek, great friendly young staff, great little bar, easy parking, kid and dog friendly, inexpensive, a nice drive getting there. It's a cozy peaceful place you'll want to return to for all these reasons. Promise.
(5)Evelyn R.
This place is a welcome gem. I came here with some friends after taking our pups on an way hike nearby. The drinks are served in mason jars, and the meats were second to none. I got the District 5, which is a duck sandwich. I was so full. My husband got a full rack of ribs, Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The ribs were perfectly smokey, juicy, and falling of the bone. Our table split some fried pickles. Those were great, but a bit in the greasy side so they could of sat on a paper towel for a few more seconds. The only thing that wasn't to my liking was the coleslaw. I prefer the creamy style. It has a great location, right next the river. I'm sure the next time I travel in that direction I'll be dining again.

First my boyfriend and I attempted to go to Cactus Jack's up the road last Sunday after a long hike in Elk Meadow. We drove around angrily trying to find a parking space and never succeeded. This end of town is a nightmare for parking on weekends. Discouraged, we drove up the street to see what else we could find and stumbled upon Switchback Smokehouse, it was meant to be! We started off with some beers, Graham Crack Porters which were served in decorative mason jars. We then walked up to the counter to order food. They have an interesting system, they can serve you just straight meat, then if you want sides you add em, they are all about $4. Or you can get a sandwich which comes with fries, or they have a few salad choices. I opted for the small duck & goat cheese salad, it did not disappoint! My guy wanted brisket but unfortunately by the time we got there they were all out. He got a pulled pork sandwich instead. The BBQ sauces they have are out of this world. He got the one which is spicy. I am so glad we ended up coming here, service was fast, view on the patio was amazing, prices were pretty good for a mountain town. We'll totally stop by next time we are in Evergreen. Hopefully they won't be out of brisket then. Highly recommend!
(4)Yesenia P.
Everything from the sweet tea to the fries, Mac and cheese and amazingggg pulled pork sandwich was the best of the best in its class !!! Seriously that sweet tea after a day of rafting was so refreshing and that sandwich with fried pickles and fries onions with pork and coleslaw .... Just #WOW I'm driving back to Evergreen asap just to eat there again ! - mrs. Beezy
(5)DeBoe D.
Drove by this place quite a few times and decided to stop in. I got the ribs and sausage with some mac n cheese and a Moscow mule. The food is amazing I could not stop eating, ribs and the elk sausage couldn't have been better I will now be stopping here every chance I get. Highly recommend and look forward to trying out more from the menu. Oh the creek side patio is also a huge plus
(5)Ben C.
Wow. I consider myself a BBQ expert. The Devils elbow sandwich was so delicious and more food that I could eat. I got both fried pickles and fried onions on top with a side of mac & cheese. I cannot wait to go back and try every single item on the menu. The location right on the water is amazing and on a beautiful day you cannot beat this place.
(5)Wyllie L.
The food was really and the staff were really nice. The only problem we had was that we couldn't try everything on the menu. I guess we'll have to come back.
(5)Matt M.
When you pull up you know you can't go wrong. There are great aromas wafting from the smoker at the side of the side of the modest establishment. The flavors are amazing. The brisket and pulled pork were fantastic, as was the chicken leg. It's a little on the dry side, but that's of little consequence because of the smoky flavors and the pepper rub. Sit outside by Bear Creek. Great experience.
(5)Hang P.
Sausages, good! Ribs, good! Duck, AMAZING! Brisket had good flavor, but a little on the dry side. Randomly stopped in after a day of bouldering at the nearby state park. The owner (or I think he's the owner) was behind the cash register and asked us if we'd ever been there. When we informed him we were from out of town, he went out of his way to help us. He provided us with a breakdown of all the items on the menu and made recommendations on what to choose. Needless to say, the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly as well. Everyone checked up on us a few times to make sure we had everything we need. If I'm ever in the area again for some climbing/bouldering, I'll be sure to stop by.
(4)Marissa M.
My boyfriend has been craving BBQ for months so when I found this spot hidden away in beautiful Evergreen, I was hoping for the best. Pulling up and seeing the outside seating was right next to a bubbling river was picturesque and a perfect setting to eat a yummy meal. When walking in, immediately to your right is a small bar and the ordering station. Drinks were OK, my margarita had too much sour for my liking but my boyfriend raved about his refreshing Moscow Mule. All drinks, including non alcoholic drinks are obtained by the customer at this bar. After heading to the podium, we placed our order and were given the go ahead to seat ourselves. Of course we chose a spot next to the water, classic picnic tables were uncomfortable as usual but again, added to the ambiance of this place. Plus, dogs are allowed as well, which is a plus in my book. We ordered a bunch of food to share: pulled pork, half rack of St. Louis ribs, mac and cheese, and 2 strips of bacon. We chose the switchback sauce as well. WOW! The pulled pork was tender and moist and the ribs might have been the best we've ever had. So much fall of the bone meat and just amazing smoke flavor. The BBQ sauce was a nice compliment to the meats but was totally unnecessary as the meat was so flavorful alone! The bacon was yummy, although it wasn't crispy and some of the fattier parts we just threw away. Overall, this place was delicious and we will definetly be back! WOW!!
(5)Heather K.
Fantastic BBQ. We had the Broken Rover brisket sandwich and a Devil Elbow pulled pork sandwich with fried onions. Both were so good. The meat was perfectly smoked and really tender. The brioche buns were amazingly soft. We sat right by the river for lunch and it was delightful! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because their ordering process is a little clunky. Food comes out fresh and fast tho.
(4)Drew S.
Ok, I have been around bbq (if any one of you have seen my Instagram, you would know), and this place is the real deal. The ribs are probably some of the best I've ever had, the staff is uber friendly, and the atmosphere can't be beat. Get there early as they're known to run out of BBQ and close up shop. Paired with pulled pork, house made cole slaw, mac and "f'ing" cheese that was like butter, and a bar filled with booze and craft beer (watching a waiter cringe when a woman asked for a Corona was fantastic). Speaking of the drinks, you have to try the Pickleback. Don't ask, just do it. Do it like your life depends on it. Do it like the fate of the world depends on it. I tried it because the bartender said it would stop a zombie apocalypse. I think he may just be right...
(5)John R.
My wife and I stopped in for an early lunch & had a good visit. We ordered up brisket, cheddar jalapeño sausage, pulled chicken and sides. The brisket had a little different taste to it due to the brining process they use, it was good with a smoky flavor but not what I'm expecting out of a smoked brisket. The sausage and chicken were great, coleslaw was spot on but the cucumber salad was a little odd in flavor. All in all a good visit and you can't beat sitting outside practically on top of the rushing creek having barbecue.
(3)Katie R.
Holy son of delicious. But you shouldn't go here, because next time I go I want a seat by the river. Shhhh.
(5)Tim W.
These guys know how to smoke meats! Foods so good I drove up from Denver twice in one week for lunch! Hands down my absolute favorite BBQ place. Lots of places to sit but you have to stand in line to order and pay first. Having servers take your order at the table would help speed up the process I think when they are packed.
(5)Tony I.
This place is always on point. A must stop if ever in the Evergreen area. The Bay of Pigs is my jam. Stuffed dates are killer. Nothing is bad

Good BBQ is rare in the Denver area but this would have to be our go-to BBQ place for the food quality plus overall experience. I do have to say that the brisket is not my favorite but all is has been stellar. Love being able to sit outside along the creek!

The ribs were great

We had the brisket, smoked duck, short ribs, fried zucchini and smoked asparagus. Everything was absolutely delicious! I think the duck was my favorite, but the smoked asparagus was the best asparagus I've ever tasted anywhere. This may be the very best smoked BBQ establishment we've ever run across. We will definitely return on our next trip back to the Evergreen area. I'm sitting at home in Illinois right now, and wishing we could eat here again tonight. Btw, the order taker, server, bartender - everyone we met there- were very friendly and helpful. Cute and interesting location, right on the river. A+ in every way!

Amazing bbq - ribs were fall off the bone. Cucumber salad was the best I've had!!! And my mom is a chef.
(5)JC D.
This is one of the best if not the best smokehouse ever. The food is simply awesome, which is an understatement. Besides, it is perfectly located right next to a creek and has a great atmosphere. Their entire staff is fantastic and extremely friendly. This is a very busy restaurant, especially on weekends, however, it's worth the wait. In short, if you are passing by, and do not stop for a great meal, you are missing out big time. This place should be featured on the Food Network.

Did take out, ordered pulled chicken, pulled pork, Burbon glazed salmon, Cowboy Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Waffle fries and Fried Zucchini. We called 40 minutes after they opened and they were out of the brisket. Pulled Chicken - Very good and moist, nice flavor. Boyfriend liked this more than the pork. Pulled Pork - VERY good, flavorful and moist. (again according to him, since I don't eat meat) Burbon Glazed Salmon - Very dry, the glaze seemed nice but there wasn't enough to combat the dryness of the salmon. It was also Sockeye Salmon which was previously frozen. Not impressed with the salmon at all. Cowboy Baked Beans - Good there looked to be huge thick cuts of bacon in this (again I did not try this menu item). He said this also had a kick. Potato Salad - Weird. It had a spicy kick to it. It wasn't bad but it was weird. Fried Zucchini - DELICIOUS. I really liked this, even if they zucchini was soggy and messy (not coated entirely). I like my fried zucchini to be like the fried green beans from Fridays, coated entirely and crisp. Either way these were really delicious, but I really really like zucchini. Waffle Fries -frozen. not cut fresh there at least they didn't taste fresh cut at all. Also soggy. Over all pretty decent.

Best I've had in Colorado! The pulled sandwich with fried pickles was so good!! We will be back.

Last time I drove from Evergreen to Morrison, I noted this bbq place and Yelp searched it before I hit the switchbacks. Bookmarked! Well, hiking the Three Sisters today built an appropriate appetite now we had the time. We were supposed to get the food to go, but we decided the menu warranted a sit down meal. We tucked into the Montreal Style Brisket, Pulled Chicken, Fried Pickles and Brussel Sprouts. It was flat out amazing. Each side came with its own sauce and we chose 3 out of 4 sauces to try with our meat. The pickles came first, surprising us because they were spears. Warning: hot temperature. The brussel sprouts heartily deserved their recommendation. No bitterness, absolutely delicious. And we both thoroughly enjoyed our meat selection. Be prepared and willing to eat with your hands. Next time we're going to try those ginormous burgers and sandwiches they came parading through the seating area. The next time: delicious pulled pork, stuffed dates, and an amazing smoked duck breast sandwich!!!
(5)Andy B.
We tried their brisket, pulled chicken, bacon and ribs along with all 4 sauces. The brisket was very very good, I would say that it reminded me of pastrami (which I mean in a good way). The ribs had a good flavor, but did need to be smothered in the supplied sauce. The bacon and chicken were okay, but for me the brisket was the star. The four sauces were of a mustard kind, spicy/peppery kind, sweet and a smoky - I believe you get one sauce per meat selection, so it was great we got to try all four. I think their prices are fair and for the small town of Kitteridge to have this place is fantastic (if you are in Evergreen you should come and check them out). If I am ever back up in this area I will for sure have some more brisket, try the duck breast and some of their sausages.

It's hard to write a review about this place...I just want to babble and say Brussels sprouts..brisket..fried pickles..bacon..fried zucchini..brisket..popeye salad..duck confit..brisket..pulled pork..sweet potato fries..brisket..but I can't say it all fast enough, and I'm stuffing too much food in my mouth so nothing is going to make much sense any way..... The atmosphere is perfect. Exactly what you'd expect. With a great outdoor eating area and a brook running behind it, And the smell of smoke assailing your nostrils and making your even hungrier. And if you're a vegetarian - don't worry!! You can make a fabulous meal on the amazing vegetable sides!! So what are you waiting for?!?!?

I don't write a lot of reviews. However, given the gem I found in Switchback Smokehouse I felt compelled to write this review. It was late, about 8pm, after my son's baseball game. Rather than drive home we decided to try something in a neighborhood we have ever been. It was a great decision. Switchback looks like it should. Small and welcoming but once you walk in you feel right at home. The person taking our order at the walk up counter could not have been nicer. He took the time to explain the great menu and offer his input. They have smoked, ribs, duck, pork and brisket. They had so much more but that is where I focused. I couldn't decide so I got the 1/2 slab of ribs and smoked duck breast. WOW. Amazing flavor. Perfectly smoked and seasoned. 3 days later and I am still craving it. My son had the pulled pork sandwich. It got 2 thumbs up from a discerning 14 year old. In fact, he wants to go back soon. The sides, Brussel sprouts and bacon, along with french fries and sweet potato fries were great. Light and not heavily fried. The fried pickles were a tasty choice as well. All in all it was a great experience with fantastic service and amazing food. We will be back!!!!
(5)Kelsey A.
What an incredible place to grab a bite to eat. Or a huge bite. The portions are so Giant! A big fan of the strawberry mint dressing, with the duck is fabulous. I love the elk sausage, it's got some spice to it. The service is very laid back so don't come expecting someone to wait on you hand and feet. It's nice to eat independently. By the river, it makes for a peaceful date night with anyone. I would try the BLT, the bacon aioli is exquisite. Gah so much to say about this place it's hands down incredible! Go, now!
(5)Dee C.
Great food, great atmosphere. Love sitting outside next to the creek. The service was friendly & helpful. Reasonable prices. Parking was a little challenging, but we got creative.

Note: One star is not for the food. After reading the reviews and checking out their menu, I was super excited to finally try Switchback. I drove up around 8:15pm on Saturday and as I walked up, the staff was hanging out outside and the restaurant was empty. One of the staff members pointed us to the front door and a second staff member said they were closed, so I guess we could have walked into their closed restaurant? The website and yelp said the place was open until 9pm. I was disappointed by the misinformation and how the staff seemed annoyed that we had interrupted their post work hang out.

:::Disclaimer::: For those of you looking for the typical BBQ experience here, you're not going to get it. It's going to blow your mind, if your mind is open to enjoying something just a little different. The emphasis of this place is SMOKEHOUSE, and from even a mile away, you can smell the cherry and apple wood smoke wafting around. The meat here is seriously smoked, and it's amazing. Okay. Now read. There's some old addage that says, if you don't do something completely right, don't do it at all... Well, Switchback does it right. All of it. Each and every thing we have tried here is executed to perfection, from their meats, to their sauces, to their sides. These people know how to do food. So, what you need to do is to drive here. Fuel up, get some of your favorite tunes, and make the pilgrimage. This is the best BBQ/meat we've been able to access in the great state of Colorado--and we've munched a lot of pulled pork around these parts. So, wow. We were initially led here due to a desire to head into the hills and yelp out some good eats along the way. Oh man, I'm glad we listened to (most of) you. The drive up to the Switchback Smokehouse is gorgeous, and leads to daydreams about a cabin somewhere up in here. Once we tried the food, my cabin dreams altered to include close proximity to the Switchback. I ordered the pulled pork and the pulled chicken, along with the Tar Heel and Original sauces to accompany. My honey got the pork and the brisket--before the staff allowed him to commit to the brisket, they brought out samples for both of us, and warned that it's not what everyone thinks of when they imagine brisket. Instead, it's this incredibly smoky corned beef-esque slice of peppery flavor. Haters gonna hate, but consider me and my honey lovers of the SS version of brisket. The pulled pork was the best I've had in this state, possibly anywhere, and the pulled chicken made me want to cry. I'm not even shitting you. It's not "pulled," so much as it's an incredibly moist piece of white meat chicken (Boulder Natural, so you know that thing had a happy life,) smoked and smoked to perfection, then chopped up to order. I dreamed about that chicken. I've never EVER flipped out this much about chicken. Ever. But it's stupidgood. So good that we returned the following day for more. I worried that it was a fluke--that we had visited on their one awesome day, and that the following would be a mediocre meal. My worries were dashed when an equally as awesome portion of smoked chicken came out, alongside some brisket (the staff, different on this day, were equally as concerned about our enjoyment of their brisket. It was equally as awesome as the day before.) On this day, I paired my meats with their INCREDIBLE chimichurri sauce, a side of coleslaw (HUGE portion for two bucks, fresh as all get out, and spicy!), and a beer. $4 will get you a bottle of some good microbrew gold here, including a gluten free option for my fellow glutards. So, we'll be back here. All the time. It's only a 35 minute from Denver, and a gorgeous one at that. Thumbs up for serving drinks in mason jars. For some reason, that touch makes this place extra awesome.
(5)Laila N.
Such a cool little place situated next to the creek. Great menu selections. Some items were sold out, but they still had a good variety. We ordered the Jalapeno Elk Sausage ($6), the Boar Sausage with Cherry ($6), a side of Mac & Cheese (I think $5) and 5 strips of bacon ($1/strip). Both sausages were delicious. The jalapeno one a bit spicy, but really good with the sweeter mustard dipping sauce. The Mac & cheese was a little on the running side, but still very delicious. And the bacon was awesome! Its fried but not super greasy, so you just have awesome bacon flavor. We also ordered a few drinks. The peach ale was a hit with our group. I order a Dark & Stormy, which is like a Mule but with rum I believe. Very good and strong. Theres alot of seating outside and inside. Easy to park. Very friendly staff. We even got to watch a deer graze on the hillside while we ate. Such a beautiful spot. I am definitely coming here every time Im in Evergreen!!!
(5)michele o.
This place is so great, especially being able to sit along the creek as you eat. Everything I've had is delicious and the root beer BBQ sauce is so different but so good! If the owners ever read these reviews, add cornbread to the menu please! Yum.
(5)Betsy O.
This place is great ALWAYS. Service and food are first class. Thank you Darryl and Mark!
(5)Sabrina C.
Our favorite spot!! The Devils elbow - piled high pulled pork is out of this world. My favorite is the pulled chicken and a side of the grilled asparagus!! You can't go wrong with any order- everything smoked onsite by these Michigan boys. Delish!!!!
(5)Ely G.
They know how to B-B-Q! I had their bbq duck sandwich, it was awesome! Super nice folks, a little pricy but worth it!!! They don't make a bad Moscow mule either, but sorry no copper mug.
(5)Victor R.
Great BBQ for Colorado, and in a great location for those wanting a quick escape to the mountains!
(5)Larry B.
We were driving back to Denver from Evergreen Lake. We drove by the restaurant and saw that they had outside seating and were very busy. We went back to sit outside by the river. The staff came up to us and were very helpful! The food was amazing! A few of their sides; Mac & cheese, zucchini, brussels sprouts, waffle fries... Entrees: chicken, brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sausage. YUM!!! Cocktails were great! The BEST advice for this review..."go early, they run out of most of everything"! Especially my favorite, the brisket... It was relaxing, beautiful, fun, and I will definitely go back! P. S. I think Courtney P. was there with her friends...read her review.

Cool spot by the water. Great food, great service. Be sure to try this bbq! good stuff.
(5)Andrea M.
We loved Switchback. The food was amazing, and it had a great atmosphere. We ate family style with ribs, pulled pork, brisket, mac 'n cheese, fried pickles, cucumber salad, and sweet potato fries. Nothing was left because it was all so good.
(5)Emma P.
I've had the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, tried 3 of the 4 sausages and most of the sides! I was so happy to find this place, a real BBQ place, sides were reliably good and tasty. But I have to give it a three instead of a 4.5 which is what I would have given based on my first experience. The issue is consistency. My first time the ribs were excellent, falling off the bone excellent. Sausages good pulled pork ok but the ribs were the show. Second time we got the ribs and brisket and sorely disappointed. My friend from Texas was there and she does some mean BBQ but what we got were ribs we could barely get off the bone I gave up on one of them. Clearly these ribs needed another 3-4 hours of slow cooking but it was served anyway. Wish there was some quality control on that , really was too hard to eat and such a contrast from the fist experience. The brisket was dry, while I understand the style should be more like pastrami but being from NY I've had beautifully soft pastrami. BBQ is about slow cooking and knowing when something is done. I really want this place to succeed but I'm not sure I'll be back given the first trip a 4 and the second trip is a 2, how do I know what I'll get on my next trip?
(3)Courtney P.
Good beer, nice people, great spot by the creek, and amazing bbq. Not sure what else you could ask for. Sat outside on a beautiful fall day after a hike with the pup. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend had the ribs with mac and cheese. We spilt a plate the best chicken wings I have had in my life. I have had bbq in austin, kc, and st louis. I think this rivals as my all time favorite. Seriously, come here, you won't regret it.
(5)Frank W.
The food is good....however, the place is filthy. Dirty tables, sticky silverwear, wobbly chairs. A floor littered with food rests and cutlery.....and no-one cared....One wonders how their kitchen looks like.
(1)Cindy S.
Solid pulled pork sandwich and beer options . I'd definitely recommend it. The duck was just ok and the dates were very dry. Also the website shows that sides come with the "butcher shop" options but we were charged an additional $8 over the $10 for a very small portion of duck. $18 seems like a lot for 4 small slices of duck, macaroni and fries.
(3)Debra C.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this place!! The Devils Elbow is by far my favorite menu item! So delicious!! I haven't experienced the restaurant it in its beauty in the summertime yet but I cannot wait! The guys there are very nice and the patio next to the river is wonderful. I live not far behind it so every once in awhile we can smell the meat cooking in their smoker. Talk about drooling!
(5)Dr. Michael V.
Great place, great owners, great food. A must whenever you are in the area.
(5)Geraldine R.
Worth the off the beaten path drive over!! So happy I found this little gem!! the pulled pork was perfection and it was without sause!!!!!
(5)Amy C.
Look out Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis and Texas...Switchback Smokehouse knows what's up when it come to smoking meat! The smoked duck is awesome! I'm in Evergreen for a week and will be back for MORE!!!
(5)Alissa B.
Went here today for lunch and although we couldn't sit outside because it was a bit snowy, the place was amazing. The pulled pork is like no other. Amazing sauce and also the sweet potato fries are to die for!! Very friendly staff with a great selection of beer as well! Can't wait to go back on a nicer day and sit by the creek!
(5)Julie L.
Can we say awesome! I love Switchback Smokehouse! The resturant has patio seating next to the river which makes for a great lunch spot! They have a neat bar with a good selection of beer. The interior of the resturant is rustic and they set e their water in mason jars which is a fun touch. The guy who runs the resturant is one of the nicest person I've ever met. He is extremely helpful and takes pride in his business and the quality of his food. The Devil's Elbow is freaking amazing! A toasted bun piled high with juicy smoked pulled pork and topped with coleslaw and your choice or friend pickles or friend onions..... HOLY SMOKES it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Oh and not to mention their waffle fries, which are the best fries I've ever had. They also make bacon. Make sure to try their thick smokey bacon they you can buy by the slice! The menu is well priced, the quality of food is wonderful, and the employees are fantastic.
(5)Stephanie H.
Delicious! We had the pulled pork sandwich with one of their homemade BBQ sauces sweetened w rootbeer. Unique and super tasty. Fried pickles and coleslaw topped off sandwich. Sweet potato and Mac n cheese sides, all were great. Friendly and helpful staff for short order.
(5)Ron K.
Well being appreciative of good barbecue. And my first time here...... here's my honest opinion. The brisket is quite flavorful and surprisingly not dry. The pulled pork while having excellent flavor was a bit dry for me. However it's one of the better available in the Denver area. The spare ribs are very tasty, tender and moist. The macaroni and cheese while I feel that should have a bit more cheese ( note to reader: I really really really love cheese) was very creamy and quite delicious. Now to really give kudos where it is due. They smoke their own bacon here, now if anything I love bacon way more than cheese. So without saying they sell it by the slice. So if you like or love bacon what ever number you decide to order I strongly recommend that you add a few more. Because you will find yourself going back for more. OFF THE FRICKIN' HOOK IS THE BACON. Now the young staff here are warm friendly and seem quite customer service oriented.

Was lucky enough to try this place over the past weekend and it was exceptional from top to bottom. First off, the location is great. Just deep enough into the mountains where you are lost in the beauty of Colorado but actually only about 35-40 minutes from downtown Denver. The restaurant is located on the river and has a ton of outdoor seating, picnic table style. It was about 72 and sunny so needless to say, a perfect day. Darryl, the owner, has mastered his smoking and BBQing over the last few years in his own smoker that he built. We started with a few orders of wings that were smoked and then fried briefly to crispen up the skin. These were outstanding. For my meal, I went with the Pulled Pork sandwich topped with fried pickles (a very nice tough) and coleslaw. Because it was my first time, I ordered all 4 of the sauces on the side. One of the great things about the sandwich is that you actually don't need the sauce, the sign of a great tasting pulled pork. It stands on it's own. Still, I would rotate dipping into the sauces on bites and each one was unique and delicious (all made from scratch). I also had a side of Jalapeno Elk Sausage which was delicious, crisp snap on the outside, and a little kick from the jalapeno. A great side to share. All in all, it was some of, if not the, best smoked meats I've ever tried at a restaurant. If you are in the Denver area or are within an hour driving distance and can afford a drive into the mountains, do not miss Switchback Smokehouse. P.S. Get a Moscow Mule from Mark the bartender. He'll treat you right.
(5)Cam P.
Insanely delicious BBQ! I don't really know what else to say. I went here with my family and everything was anything you could want out of a great smokehouse. All three of the sauces we had were unique and tasty! The sandwiches are all portioned very well and the smoked salmon was so savory and smokey, not fishy at all. The fried pickles were very unique, in my experience, but I was a big fan. They are not battered, as you would expect. Instead, they almost seemed to be fried with just a light coat of flour. They were almost like pickle fries. The outdoor seating is nice and shady. You can't beat the beauty of the areas around Evergreen. Pricing is reasonable and the service was good! Will definitely be back.
(5)Roger W.
Amazing food, I tried most of the menu, everything is smoked to perfection. The atmosphere is unique, no fuss, simple and very relaxing with the restaurant sitting right next to Bear Creek. The service is top notch and the staff shows a genuine interest in your satisfaction.
(5)Kelly B.
Would love it if they respected their neighbors by not blasting music that sounds like they are drowning cats. Sunday afternoons we would like to also be able to open our windows in the summer. Ask them nicely multiple times and they refuse to work with us. Completely disappointing that they can't respect the fact that they are in a neighborhood. All we are asking for is a little respect, that's it. No need to blare music when you have 15 customers, it's not Red Rocks.
(1)M G.
Great setting near rushing stream, sitting outside on patio was great. Food was very good , generous servings. We had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, salad with cured duck and goat cheese - I didn t care for the goat cheese, would have preferred regular feta. The Reuben was bbq style , unique. Sweet potato fries were excellent. A relaxing, hearty meal.
(4)Cat F.
I went here about a month ago with my boss from work on a Wednesday. I really liked the atmosphere. It was rainy outside, so we stayed in. The guy at the counter was friendly. We ordered, like, a million times because it seemed they were out of everything. I get that restaurants run out of things, but the fact that they were out of many, many things on the day they open after they've been closed for a few days was kind of shocking. The portions were huge, and the food was tasty. Overall, it was okay. I don't know if I'd come back or not, but maybe I'll give it another shot.
(3)Cori K.
My family loves this place. It has some of the best, local BBQ we have ever had. My hubby loves the duck and I'm a fan of their pulled pork. You can choose from a variety of downy BBQ sauces and handmade sides. Oh, their fried pickles are also very tasty. They also sell their bacon to you uncooked and it is always a treat for my family when I cook it up for them at home. As you drive by, they are always cooking something delicious out back in their smoker and the smells alone will beckon you thru their doors. It sits creekside and they have picnic benches to enjoy an outdoor meal when it's warm. I hear they have live music on the weekends, and my husband and I would love to make a date night out of it sometime soon. The only drawback- it is a bit pricey, but still I give it two, very enthusiastic thumbs up.
(4)Steph D.
Yeah... This place was awesome. Came up on a Friday afternoon, enjoyed the patio, fresh air, and creek with a few beers and our dog, Lloyd. The BBQ was phenomenal - savory pulled pork, life changing cherry bourbon sausage and amazing side dishes. Tried all 4 sauces - really like mixing the traditional with the root beer. The service was really great - cool, laid back dudes just serving beer and BBQ. Cannot say enough good about this place. We'll definitely come back!!
(5)S R.
Had a great pulled pork sandwich and salad the other night, along with two different specialty drinks. Great home town atmosphere here. The place is run by a couple of really good guys who put out some really good food. Glad to have them as neighbors!
(5)Trish G.
Really great barbecue. We ate here for the first time last night and had phenomenal ribs and brisket. Try the baked beans---delicious! Cant wait to have my leftovers for lunch.
(5)Nate M.
Outstanding BBQ. Great brisket! The old dicks hickory dock locale has been done justice.
(5)April K.
I crave this food!! This is the third time my family and I have been here and every time the food has been exceptional. We love the pulled pork and ribs. The fried pickles are delicious and tonight we had the Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts are now my favorite side. The staff is really friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. So happy we found this place and we will keep coming back!
(5)Roy H.
I have been to alot of BBQ joints all over the country..its sometimes hard for me to go out for BBQ if im not going to Texas, KC, etc.. this place would be a standout joint even in one of the BBQ capitols of the US. They are right on the side of the creek..and have a big outside patio. really nice place to relax and eat! They also have a screened in portion of the pato and a small bar inside with a really great selection of beers. They also have sprecher soda!!The guys running it are really laid back and happen to be midwest transplants like myself (they noticed the Purdue sweatshirt that one of us had on). I ordered the smoked duck...its not listed as a sandwich option but they were able to substitute it onto one of the sandwiches. Very nice of them. It was AMAZING!! Perfectly smoked..the combination of the duck flavor and smokeyness was just awesome. The others in our group ordered pulled pork or chicken sandwiches... I gave those a taste also and all the meat was very good. unfortunately they were out of smoked salmon and brisket when we came...so next time I will be trying those. They have a few different types of BBQ sauces so I recommend getting a bit of each and finding the one you like best. Ill be back soon for that Salmon and Brisket (I hear the brisket is different than texas style so im very interested to try).
(5)Erin G.
For Evergreen this is the best place to eat! Great meats that are always perfectly smoked. The sides are creative and fresh and I love how they create new ones for each season. Great bar with super cocktails and a great beer selection. We need more places like this to eat in town; creative, fresh and a good vibe!
(5)Ally E.
Excellent! Food is so yummy! I always get the pork sandwich w/ fried pickles and slaw. Deliciously yummy
(5)Kelli A.
This guy knows how to smoke! St Louis ribs were perfectly pink and fall off the bone. The Elbow (pulled pork sandwich with slaw and fried pickles) was huge!! Enough for at least two people. Cannot wait to come back and try more. Great atmosphere.
(5)Jackie M.
Excellent food. Big portions. Definitely worth the visit! The pulled chicken has tons of flavor. Pulled pork is also good. I had a blt and it was also huge. We'll definitely be back.
(5)Micahlynn R.
LOVE their food! We come to Switchback a few times a month. My favorite is their slab of ribs.... absolutely wonderful!
(5)Amy T.
Great drinks, food, atmosphere. Get there early as they only smoke so much meat a day. A couple of times we've missed out on what we wanted but there is always something else really good to try. Finally some good places now all downtown Nd closer to the foothills!
(5)Lee M.
Brisket and Bacon were sold out at 5pm, seems to be a recurring theme. Other than that, all of the food is great and at a good price for BBQ. Pulled pork and chicken, elk sausage, mac and cheese, and coleslaw are all good. Spicy sauce has a kick. Decent beer selection also!
(4)Greg J.
Driving back from Evergreen into Kittredge, the smell of the BBQ was in the air. Like a dog on a hunt, I had to find out where that amazing smell was coming from. After passing it the first time, I pulled off to turn around by the Palisades Peach stand to buy some peaches, then turned around to go back to Switchback Smokehouse. It's a very cool little place right on Bear Creek making it a perfect hangout. It was tough to decide what to get, but the very friendly staff made a suggestion.....the Devil's Elbow. It is a lot of pulled pork goodness with slaw and fried pickles on top. It is delicious all by itself, but you can enhance the flavors with one of their signature sauces to go on top. This is a great place is a quaint mountain town, with friendly people and great food. It doesn't get much better than that.
(5)Crys A.
I do not understand the high rating for this restaurant (other than there are not many ratings -- yet). This bbq was really terrible. Maybe it was an off day? I'm not sure. Here's what we ordered and what we thought of it: Brisket: It came out looking like corned beef, which is to say it was pink-red with large peppercorns and caraway crusted on top. Unfortunately, it also tasted kind of like corned beef, which I do not like. Corned beef isn't traditional brisket, it's brisket that's been cured in brine. These are different things. Ribs: These came to the table unsauced, which is okay. What wasn't okay was that they were THOROUGHLY burnt on the bottom. Now, I don't mind a little char here and there, but the bottom of these ribs was SO thickly charred that all I could taste was carbon. It was awful. No amount of side-sauce helped. They were also embarrassingly dry. Just ... bad. Elk Jalapeno Sausage: This was decent. A little fatty, but good flavor. Side -- Cornbread: Underdone on top and raw in the middle. Amazing how their cornbread was raw at the same time as being dry. What? Side -- Baked beans: These came out looking gray and unappetizing. Worse yet was that I couldn't taste any of the beans or meat, all I could taste was beer. Look, my husband likes beer, we cook with it, we even brew our own. But if all I can taste is beer when I'm eating beans -- I'm not happy. Side -- Mac-n-Cheese: Made with a white sauce base which separated. The sauce therefore was grainy and not nearly cheesy enough. Oh sigh. Side -- Waffle Fries: These were pale and floppy. Wow, even the fries? Cost for all this unfortunate food? $40. I really wanted to like this place. I had it bookmarked for quite some time and we were thrilled to try it. SOOOO disappointed.

All 5 of my kids loved the food. I was told by my 12 year old to give this place 5 stars and it was well deserved! We ordered chicken, bacon, pulled pork, and brisket with a few sides. The meat was awesome especially the bacon. The fries were crisp outside and tender inside. Sauces were unique and flavorful so I must say the food was great. The staff... Well they were awesome too. They were accommodating, friendly, and helpful since it was our first time. We will definitely be going again!
(5)Brittany F.
BBQ was good, they were out of brisket & bacon so we tried the chicken, pork and salmon. Chicken & pork were great, salmon was a little dry, but with the sauces we didn't mind. It wasn't the cleanest place, but patio seats on the river are nice. I was told that all of the sauces & meats were gluten free, then as we were leaving I saw the mustard sauce for sale & thought about buying some when I read the ingredients it included flour! Needless to say I got sick afterwards, which was a bummer because we would have gone back otherwise.

This was exactly what we were looking for after a long afternoon of hiking. Fantastic BBQ! Done perfectly! The St. Louis ribs...wow! The meat fell off the bone! Great sauces! Switchback Standard and Mustard sauces did not disappoint! Pork sandwich with cole slaw and fried pickles...divine! Beers on tap, relaxed atmosphere and dog friendly. We were very pleased!
