Usually, when I eat Mexican food my body screams "what did you just do to me?", and I feel the need to do 25 hail Disneys, and run 6 or 7 miles (neither of which I do). This place is different! After eating 3 tacos and their delicious salsa, both me and my body agreed that the decision to eat at this wonderful place was a good call. Highly recommended. The service is over the top awesome. Great experience. Avoid the long lines downtown and check out this gem!

Excellent. The ceviche appetizer is great, and huge! I'm taking most of it back to camp for supper. Ordered three tacos, chicken, fish, and lengua (tongue). All were very tasty. First time I have eaten tongue. It was as tender as butter. Fantastic. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that the flan, while very good, was slightly over cooked and had a bit of burnt taste. Otherwise, a great place to eat. I'll be back.

Local friends who had never been here suggested we try this place. All of us really enjoyed our meals. Most of their other customers in the restaurant had margaritas....so we too had to try them....pretty descent by my standards. The burritos are huge so I hope you are hungry if you order one. I had the carnitas...plenty, plenty, plenty! The inside seating area is a bit small, but manageable. There is an outside area also...but I'm not sure if there was an easy access door to get there...no one was sitting there on our visit. The only weird thing about this place....make sure you lock the bathroom door otherwise the kitchen staff can see right in should someone open the door while you are in there. Lastly, they have a pretty good selection of tequila...from blancos to anejos...bottoms up!

Best Mexican food in Durango! As someone who can't do dairy I love that you can find plenty of things on the menu that aren't covered in cheese. Tacos can't be beat and the ceviche tostada is a must try!

I don't know why I waited so long to eat here. Very good!! I ordered the molten cheese dip volcano thing. Wow so good. They have a new larger space and everyone should give them a try. New fan new customer.

Fantastic tacos with many choices!! Very surprised by this hole in the wall in Durango! Such great tacos... you will be missing out if you dont stop and try! I had tongue and cheek tacos... They were superb! So tender they seemed to melt in my mouth I have made tongue many times and it never comes out like this... Simply magical :) If you want a top notch authentic taco then you must stop here!! Believe me you will be in Taco Heaven!!!

Great authentic Mexican food. Get the Molcajete, you won't be dissapointed. Ceviche is good is real good too. Unfortunately service isn't as good as it could be.

This place offers way more than tacos. We went here based on a tip from locals- thanks Rachael and Liz! My husband had the Mazatlan plate-- nicely spiced, the fish and shrimp were tender and well prepared. I enjoyed the cheese and onion enchiladas. Easy to find as it is right across the street from the high school.

This place is amazing! We go to Baja regularly and these tacos were the best I've ever had. The margaritas were made fresh from limes not a mix. Yum! The chips were hot and crisp and the salsa and guacamole were fresh and very tasty.

Stopped here on a Tuesday night at 730 and it was packed! We got seated a little after 8, Margs, chips and salsa. The service was attentive and prompt, and the food was great. Excellent selection. We had various tacos-- the beef cheek was the best. We also tried a shrimp stuffed chili relleno which was awesome. Finished with the fried ice cream, which despite its size, we managed to demolish in 5 minutes. Cant wait to go back!

The best real Mexican food in Durango , and the margaritas mmmmm so yummy and refreshing all made from scratch ! Friendly service and fast!!! I recomend the molcajetes de mariscos which is a volcano bowl filled with cheese , chorizo, fish, clams, calamari , octopus and shrimp with special seafood sauce. Fantastic ;)

We had a great dinner recently at Tacos Nayarit. It really doesn't look like much from the outside but once inside we felt right at home. Quick and friendly service and the food was great. The menu appears to slant towards seafood dishes but there lot's of other exotic meat choices, especially for the tacos. The grilled shrimp tacos I had were excellent and my partner had this huge bowl filled with seafood which was one of the Molcajete dishes. And the ice cold Tecates were perfect compliment to the meal. We'll be back!

Great Food and price . Waitress ( Flor) was very kind. I truly recommend this place ! Food has real Mexican flavor tacos al pastor, ceviche, Machaca con huevos, tacos de nopales etc !!!

The tacos are the way to go here - they have have a $5.50, 3 taco deal that I recommend. These tacos consist of corn tortillas, lime and cilantro, with a choice of meat. Freakin' fantastic. I've also had the enchiladas, which were OK, and my mom really enjoyed her sopas. Apparently they also just got their liquor license - so bring your ID and drink up.

we have been going here for years because the food is good and always leave a decent tip. the service could be better. they always forget to ask if you need a refill, sometimes a little attitude-y and try to seat you at a smaller table. the last time i went they gave me re fried beans instead of regular pinto beans and when i got the right plate i bit into my beans i bit into a small metal dish scrubbie about and inch long and the server, who turned out to be the manager, told us that they must not have cleaned the dishes right and didn't seem genuinely sorry and asked if i wanted some more beans(?). then i realized that it had cut my tongue too and was bleeding! when we got out bill we didn't get a discount or anything that would make us feel better about coming back. My husband asked them if we could get a discount or something and the manager replied by saying she took the beans off the ticket and my husband told her that my tongue was bleeding and that we come here a lot, she then said "OK you get 3 free tacos next time." we didn't get a voucher or anything but after we left we realized that they didn't seem too sorry, and the metal in the beans could of been intentional because we had moved ourselves to 6 person table when there was 5 of us and they tried to seat us at a 4 person table, and our friends we met up with seemed to ask for extra plates and more hot salsa which probably upset them. So now we're afraid to go back ...i guess just don't do anything to make them upset???

Friendly, familly-owned restaurant with authentic, flavorful Mexican food. Fresh homemade chips served with wonderfully spicy, cilantro infused salsa. Menu includes rarely found items, such as tender tacos and burritos made with tongue (lengua), a to-die- for spicy and savory Relleno plate, and Jarritos soda to accompany the feast. Excellent soups are also available, along with many other dishes I have not yet had the pleasure of sampling. Everything is tasty and prepared with love. Unpretentious - and the best Mexican food in town. Highly recommended!

Excellent little Mexican hole-in-the-wall across the street from Durango High School. We tried a variety of the tacos, all of which were terrific: al pastor, tongue, beef cheek, chicken, carnitas, etc., were all succulent, flavorful, juicy. They came with the usual corn tortillas and cilantro and onion, but also minced (romaine?) lettuce, which I was somewhat skeptical about but which actually added a nice note to the flavor profile. Although some of the entrees on the menu didn't seem so economical, you can get three of the tacos for $5.50, which is a fantastic deal. Free chips and salsa were great, too, as was horchata. If you go for lunch on a weekday like we did, service and comfort may be compromised by the restaurant's being inundated with kids from the high school. As with all kids, some were mature and respectful, but others were pretty obnoxious, giggling like halfwits, trashing the floor around their tables with chips and other debris, and even shooting straw wrappers at each other. This is obviously not the proprietors' fault, but it still detracts from a dining experience. Anyway, based on our taco experience, still highly recommended. At dinnertime, they serve a bunch of Mexican seafood dishes, which sound great, but we didn't make it back the week we were in Durango.

Best tacos in Durango hands down. Carnitas tacos are awesome. Love the margs too. Price is right and the new location is great. A+

Small place with about 10 tables. I ordered the carna asada, which was a bit over-seasoned. The marinade tasted like the kind you can pick up at any local grocery store. The chips were bland and leaning towards the stale side. The floors in this place felt like they had just finished cleaning them with cooking oil. I had to "tread lightly" when walking across the restaurant, just to avoid slipping. Overall, it was an okay meal, but I've definitely had better (and worse).

Wow! So we were in a brewery in town and asked for a recommendation for good Mexican and the gal recommended this place in about two seconds flat. It's about a mile from "Downtown" I travel for business all over Mexico, Central and South America and this food is as good as it gets! Incredible flavor, extremely generous portions and super staff. Five stars!

If you are craving Mexican food in Durango definitely check out Nayarit :D I've been out of town for awhile so I wasn't sure where the best Mexican food was located anymore. Thankfully my parents were on top of it and took me to Tacos Nayarit for lunch. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on the patio which was quite comfortable because they have giant umbrellas to protect you from the sun. I ordered the carne asada plate, my mom had five tacos (lengua and tripas) and my dad had a machaca burrito. Service was friendly and fast! My carne asada was seasoned well and cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed the sides of beans, rice, tortillas, and guac. It was a perfect portion for me. My mom loved the flavor of her tacos, but five was a bit too much so she took some home. Dad's burrito was enormous so he only ate half and took the rest back to eat later. Make sure you are really hungry if you order a burrito! Free chips and salsa before you get your meal is legit! (I hate when places charge for this). Can't wait to come back to practice my Spanish and try the tacos :)

I'm constantly questing for *Mexican* mexican food- not "New Mexican", not some hybrid menu that vaguely involves tortillas- just fresh salsas and flavorful and well cooked meat. So I was happy and relieved when I tasted the tacos here- soft, small corn tortillas decorated with meat, cilantro, and lime, that you fold up and happily stuff into your mouth. Carne asada + carnitas good; the lengua the softest I've ever had. 3 tacos for $6.50! My companion liked his "Nayarit plate"- chicken + shrimp, but it looked too heavily cheesy for my taste. We liked the red chile salsa so much we bought more to take home. Small-ish seating space, but there's patio seating too, which is nice on a cool evening. Skip the touristy places downtown and eat here instead.

I love this place! The queso and bacon wrapped shrimp are must haves. The house margaritas are also quite delicious.

I have lived in Durango for 5 years now and this is, by far, my favorite lunch spot in town. Service is prompt, food is delicious and reasonably priced. Beer is served with salt on the rim/lime and their margaritas don't use pre-made sweet and sour. The staff has always been friendly, accommodating, and genuine. Hugo has served us several times and is super welcoming, gregarious, and friendly. In my opinion, best Mexican food in town!

Ok food but not over the top. Single layer factory made tortillas on my three assorted taco order with beans and rice. Nothing had the wow factor happening. Service good.

Amazing staff, amazing prices and really good food. We came by chance, cause this was one of the few places open after 8 pm. The owner personally opened the door for us and the service was one of the best I ever experienced. By far the best Mexican food, I ever had and this wasn't like my tenth Mexican place or something. Must try!

This restaurant is so good! I live in northern CA and I'm visiting in Durango. I'm always looking for good Mexican food. All of us in our group ordered something different and it was ALL great. We ordered the seafood Diablo--pretty spicy, but delicious; shredded beef enchiladas and cheese enchiladas, I had a shrimp stuffed chili relleno; all came with rice an retried beans topped with melted jack cheese and either flour or corn tortillas. The margaritas were also very good, as well as the tortilla chips and salsa. Everything tasted like homemade authentic Mexican food. My grandmother was Spanish from Mexico, and it tasted a lot like her food. I can't say enough about this place. Come during the week and although the restaurant will still be packed, you won't have to wait too long. They have a nice covered outdoor seating area and much smaller indoor seating. I'll definitely be back before I go back home.

Finally met my match with hot salsa! The habanero sauce my burrito was smothered in set my mouth on fire! I've been dreaming of the day I would find a vegetarian hot sauce that would leave my mouth afire and this place did just that! The staff is incredibly friendly and the prices are decent. Wish I lived closer to Durango so I could experience the heat more frequently! Yum!!!!!!

Really good authenic Mexican food! The tacos were great and filled with plenty of meat and we enjoyed the enchiladas as well. Really good salsa and good service. We will definitely return when in Durango!

I finally tried this place out and try their El Pastor tacos. Eh... they were adequate, but lacking the umph I have had in other El Pastors... also the meat was way tough. I will try them again in the future, but it may take me another 3 years.

Best tacos! These tacos are the kind I grew up with in Mexico and are mouthwatering!! The servers are amazingly nice and cheerful . I always get margaritas and have yet to be unimpressed with the flavor and amount of alcohol!! ;)

Wonderful place in tourist town! My boyfriend is from Mexico. As another reviewer wrote, I was the only "pinchie gringo" in the place, so it was going to be good! Not to be concerned, as we were finishing up, plenty of other gringos joined me! :) We got 2 pastor, 2 tripas, 1 Carne asada, 1 carnitas tacos. Served "properly" with corn tortillas, cilantro, and onions. All were delicious! The carnitas were a little dry. But everything else was spot on. I had a margarita, and had horchata. Total bill was $24. :) I think we are going back tomorrow! And we are only in Durango for 2 nights!

The very best tacos and authentic Mexican food I have had in a very long time! A hole in the wall restaurant in a old Domino's pizza location. The tortilla chips were warm and the salsa perfectly balanced with spice! The Spanish rice was cooked just like grandma would make (if she was from Mexico). I cannot rave enough about the tacos! Mexico in a bite!

This taco place was recommended to us by a few locals. It is small - looks like the typical Texas dive taco stand... But it's super clean inside. Service is friendly but isn't fast so be prepared to stay awhile. The tilapia tacos were great. Carne Arsada and pescada were pretty good too.

Been living in Durango for about a month and been trying to find a few good Mexican spots since I used to live in San Diego. This was the first spot I tried and was pleased. Came back a couple more times but on the third visit it was a disaster. There were a few groups waiting at the door to be acknowledged but no one came. I walked up to the bar and ordered for takeout. The previous times I went, I was served by a nice Hispanic guy. This time I was served by a Caucasian guy who wasnt too friendly. Ordered my food and asked if it came with chips since the Hispanic guy threw in chips the last couple times I went. The guy said my meal doesnt come with chips. Ok, I'm thinking, thats fine. I sat around by the door for 40 minutes waiting for my food. Other people came in and it was a struggle for them to get acknowledged too. A couple different groups were pretty upset. Finally was told my food was ready but it really wasn't. Asked for a fork but they didn't put it in the bag. I never walk out of restraunts because I hate to waste food that someone spent time preparing, but I really should have left. I live two blocks away and after walking two minutes and biting into my enchiladas I found that they were cold. Pretty bad experience. I don't usually write reviews since I think Yelp is pretty accurate with their scores already, but this was an abysmal experience. Do yourself a favor and go to Zia instead.

Every once in a while, you have one of those mind-blowing, life-altering experiences that leaves you changed forever...with a huge, silly smile on your face. I had one of those experiences at little Tacos Nayarit in Durango, and my life will never be the same :) Sad and missing my favorite REAL Mexican food in Denver, I found a substitute in Cocina Linda. Their food is fresh and hearty and down-home Mexican food and i enjoy it a lot. But this review isn't about Linda's. It's about Tacos Nayarit. For weeks i was losing sleep over the fact that I would be hard-pressed to find delicious cheek meat tacos anywhere near where I lived. I would wake up in cold sweats from dreams where I was doomed to never eat that delicious delicacy ever again. And then E took me to a little podunk Mexican place and I though "Oh great, over priced Tex Mex. I sooooo do not want to eat here." The first thing i saw upon entering was a glass case filled with panaderia cookies and other goodies. Good sign number one :) Good sign number two: There was horchata on the menu. From a powder mix, yes, but that's acceptable in my book. FABULOUS sign number three was...drum roll please!...cheek meat tacos! Oh happy day. I was thrilled beyond belief. I got two tacos for under four bucks. How cheap is that! I decided to branch out into the head meats and went for a cheek meat and a tongue taco. And, much as I hate to admit this, tongue might be my new favorite. Tragic, considering how anxious I was to find cheek meat, but it was so tender and delicious that I entered a pure state of ecstasy. I wanted to curl up and die a happy death before something else disappointing came along. The tacos were just the way I like them, on soft corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. Fantastico! This will surely be a place i frequent. Great prices and even better food. Thank you, Mexican food gods :) I am so glad you have smiled upon Durango.

Food and service were great until our server's shift was over in the middle of our meal. While he sat at the bar drinking a margarita, we sat with empty glasses and mouths a blazing from the spicy food. I finally had to get up and ask for beer refills. If not for that, I would have given 4 stars.

Great authentic Mexican food. Get the Molcajete, you won't be dissapointed. Ceviche is good is real good too. Unfortunately service isn't as good as it could be.

Must try!

Yum!!!!!!

I'll definitely be back before I go back home.

we have been going here for years because the food is good and always leave a decent tip. the service could be better. they always forget to ask if you need a refill, sometimes a little attitude-y and try to seat you at a smaller table. the last time i went they gave me re fried beans instead of regular pinto beans and when i got the right plate i bit into my beans i bit into a small metal dish scrubbie about and inch long and the server, who turned out to be the manager, told us that they must not have cleaned the dishes right and didn't seem genuinely sorry and asked if i wanted some more beans(?). then i realized that it had cut my tongue too and was bleeding! when we got out bill we didn't get a discount or anything that would make us feel better about coming back.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
