This is clearly THE place to eat in Durango. The best steak I have ever eaten, amazing fish, pork and chicken-- and outstanding side dishes, especially the brussel sprouts. The desserts are excellent too. Order the peach cobbler at the beginning of the meal (it takes at least 20 minutes), you will not be disappointed!

We had a wonderful time at dinner had no reservations but we were sat in about 20 minutes. We had the filet with asparagus with Mac and cheese it was wonderful. The service was good and the restaurant was busy, but our waitress was attentive and helpful. It was our first time at the restaurant. We would definitely return.

For my birthday my boyfriend had made reservations here not knowing what to expect since neither of us had eaten here before. Walking into the old restaurant it is very western and vintage with dim lighting and wooden interior. We shared the chateaubriand for two. It was an expensive piece of steak, but being perfectly aged and cooked it was well worth it! If you are looking for a good place to eat a romantic dinner, here is your place!

Great steakhouse. You can tell the owners and waiters care about the details, from the bacon butter and corn bread, to the drinks with home made bitters, and obviously great steak options!

We had dinner at the Ore House while visiting Durango, CO last month. A friend was paying so I agreed to go. It would not have been my first choice. The service was lovely and very accommodating. I felt it was trying to be more fancy than it needed to be, which in turn, gives it a license to be really expensive. I had the surf and turf. The steak was delicious. My friend had a portabello mushroom in puff pastry entree that was 28$ and was miniscule. Just crazy expensive. The presentation was like first class airline food, overly designed arranged artfully. I would not recommend Ore House unless someone else is paying and you like steak. I think people would be just as happy with a less artsy, fussy plate and more of a comfort food feeling, especially for a place like Durango.

Hands down best meal I've ever had. We are moving cross country and my husband wanted a good steak for dinner given that we're in Colorado. The hotel recommended this place and it did not fail to deliver! My husband ordered the T-bone (he is a t-bone snob) and I had the chicken cordon bleu and WOW. UNBELIEVABLE. We are total foodies and will absolutely recommend this place to anyone passing through. Stop reading and go already!

The rare steak was perfect, spinach salad dressing extraordinary, creamed corn to die for (and good coffee too). Everyone wished me a happy birthday! And I'm glad you still have the mural on the south wall.

I used to really like the Ore House. I came here back in the day when they had the salad bar in the back; I enjoyed the steaks and service then. I came here later on, too, after the restaurant was updated and the salad bar taken out. The service was still good and the steaks were delicious. For a long time I was prepared to give the Ore House five stars. Unfortunately, the last time I came, I became very ill after eating the snow crab and shrimp cocktail appetizer. As my husband doesn't eat shellfish, I ordered it and ate it by myself. We both ate steaks and enjoyed our evening. However, late that evening I came down with vomiting and other gastrointestinal distress. My husband was fine. The only thing I could imagine was that there was some tainted shellfish in the appetizer and because I alone had eaten it, I was the only one of us to have symptoms. When I emailed the company to let them know that they might have served tainted shellfish, I never received any sort of response--not even an auto-reply! I didn't want anything; I simply believe that acknowledgment of my email would have sufficed. I have never gone back to the Ore House and will never do so again. In a town like Durango, there are plenty of other restaurants that have quality service, delicious food, and will contact their guests if issues arrive. The Ore House sadly let me down when they let my email go by without so much as an acknowledgment or apology. Edit: As you can see from below, Ryan of the Ore House has contacted me regarding this matter. Unfortunately I have moved out of the Colorado area so I'm unable to complete a follow-up review. However, I do appreciate the contact. I let the Ore House know that their web "contact us" form (which I had used to contact the restaurant) may not be working if they did not receive my initial response.

The food and the service were excellent. After a long day of hiking and a trip by the hot springs we were ready for a good steak dinner. We had 5 adults and 3 kids (4, 2, 18 months) and they were extremely accommodating. They got us seated even though we didn't have reservations and were patient as we occasionally had to step outside to deal with kids that had also had a long day. The food was amazing. Including the kids food. I had to stop myself from filling up on my daughters leftover chicken strips and honey before our food came. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were to die for. The mashed potatoes, mushrooms, asparagus were all phenomenal. And our waitress was the icing on the cake. She took great care of us and while I'm sure we were a handful of a group she never showed it and had a smile on her face. We will definitely be back next time we are in Durango!

Was recommended by two different people and they were right. Fantastic steak, really good creamed corn, and excellent service. The staff was very friendly. We will be back the next time we are in Durango.
Half price wine bottles the night we went. We ordered white Zinfandel. And they brought us sutter home. Not a terrible wine but c'mon you can buy this at the dollar store. The food is all served a la carte. Ribeye was the best I've ever had. Crab Mac and cheese had way too much cayenne in it and not enough cheese. Asparagus was delicious. Overall a little too overpriced for my taste. Two entrees, a $12 bottle of sutter home and a beer was $112+. Not worth it for me.

I decided to go here because if the yelp reviews and lots of recommendations from locals. We were looking for a good steak since we have been on the road eating okay food, and found exactly what we were looking for. The pros are its awesome decor that's old fashioned, the server was extremely nice, and the steak was amazing. The cons were the price like the other reviews it's pretty price but If you order the correct things it's worth the money. We ordered the peppercorn sauce and it wasn't that great but the watercress and romain salads were great and we shared a steak. I definitely would come back.

We went here because my friend wanted a nice steak; I was a bit taken aback by the prices, but a good steak would be worth it. The atmosphere and staff were very nice, and the salads and sides were excellent. Unfortunately, my rib-eye was only so-so. It was cooked properly, but not particularly tender, and had a couple big chunks of gristle in it. Also we never received the promised corn muffins. I might give this place three stars, but for these prices, the steak better be good, and mine just wasn't anything to come back for.

I ordered a new York strip and was served a flat iron steak thats nor good for business as a cattle producer and feeder it bothers me that a restaurant would tarnish it's reputation by saving a couple of bucks on cheaper less disarable cut of meat for those of you that don't know a flat iron steak comes from the shoulder it is a Joke to serve at a reputable steakhouse it should be used as a roast ,a tenderized steak (chicken fry) or ground up or in hamburger when I picked up the tab for our table for 480.00 I was not impressed our wait staff was fine and order was timely John Norris

Great old time atmosphere. If you want a steak, this is where you need to come. Many different cuts and the grill will cool perfectly. Definitely a return trip on my future.

Great old fashioned style steakhouse! The Caesar style salad and baked potato were some of the best I've ever had and the Malbec paired perfectly. The prime ribeye steak, although cooked perfectly, lacked in flavor - perhaps some seasoning needed... Overall great experience, but a hefty tab.

the restaurant went through a remodel and a major menu overhaul a few years ago and WOW they hit it out of the park. Ryan, the chef as done an exceptional job with a variety of entrees. Additionally the food is prepared exceptionally well, ingredients are fresh and healthy as well. the service we find is always friendly and professional. The Meat is great of course, but the fish choices are a nice balance to the Steakhouse Menu. Great atmosphere to top it off. Enjoy

More than your average Steakhouse, Ore House features local Durango fare backed by a great staff! Anneliese was amazingly personable and offered the best recommendations; she also may have convinced us to move to Durango. Keep up the good work!

WooHoo! I yelled as I bit into my Ribeye! Everything here was great. The fact that they squeezed us in on my birthday, the waitress, and the food. A fantastic experience in a hole in the wall restaurant with super good steaks and sides. Did you know that for your birthday you get that percentage off on your meal?

I will say that when I wrote to the owner about my experience, he was nothing but professional, cordial and apologetic. If I ever make it back to Durango, I may try again.

Surprised by this great night out in Durango! Our party of six ordered all different steaks. Each was cooked perfectly. The side dishes were all tremendous. I recommend you order several. Although the restaurant was busy, the service was excellent. Tip: go on Sunday for 1/2 price bottles of wine. Can't wait to go back. Five stars!

Eating out can be a challenge with food allergies and intolerances - sometimes impossible. My hubby and I were in Durango for our anniversary and I was so excited when I read on the Ore House website that they have a special talent for accommodating customers with ingredient issues. I contacted the restaurant a week before we wanted to come in and Mandi connected me with head chef Ryan who created an allergy-free meal for us - which is not an easy task with our list. The salad was very tasty with roasted beets, almonds and spinach and then... the best fried calamari in the world! The kitchen breaded our calamari with rice flour and then fried it in a separate pan with canola oil to avoid any contamination and created a new jalapeno sauce that was to die for - if that's not going the extra mile! Our entrees were very tasty too - ribeye with snow crab and king salmon with blistered asparagus. Service was good, atmosphere was very charming and the chef was amazing! If you have food allergies, you know how difficult it can be to eat out - often times making you avoid it. Whether you have food allergies or not, the Ore House is great and we will definitely be back next time we're in town. Thank you so much!

My daughters and I came to Durango for dinner. We went to the Ore House and had a very nice time. Dinner was wonderful, scallops were awesome! One of the girls had carpaccio and loved it. We each had a different martini and they were all excellent. The staff were all very friendly and made us feel that my toddler granddaughter was very welcome! Decor was really neat. It was a great evening and can't wait to go back!

Overall good food but overpriced! My filet ore style was great but my husband's strip was overcooked. We didn't get to eat together. The artichoke and calamari with green chili pineapple jam was awesome! Sides were another $7 on top of expensive steaks which were already $35 with a sauce.

Great steak but the other entrees are... meh. My boyfriend wanted a really good basic steak so I took him here. He loved his steak and the salad bar. The bread basket is super yummy! I ordered a chicken plate that was $18. The rice was under cooked and the chicken tasted like something you'd get from a frozen dinner. Also everything looked really sloppy, more like something i would pay $8 for not $18. All in all, go here if you want steak but stay away from everything else.

My wife and I got exactly what we were looking for at the Ore House, locally raised, grass-fed beef, fresh (as it gets in CO) seafood, and a great salad bar. Located in downtown Durango, the Ore House had some local Ska beer on draught and a very straight forward approach to dinner. I had an excellent ribeye that was prepared just right and came with a bake potato loaded with fresh roasted green chili (yum). My wife had the sashimi grade seared sesame big eye tuna, with mango salsa and fried rice, which was also extraordinary. Although the Ore House is probably considered expensive, the quality of food and service is worth every penny. If I am ever in the mood for steak and I happen to be in Durango, the Ore House is my top pick!

When you tire of the chains, places trying to hard and average places it's great to go to place that has excellent service, unique interior and good food. After a day of touristing this past summer we stepped into this kitchy place and had a great steak at a reasonalbe price.

We had fillet & crab legs and a ribeye & lobster. Both meals were perfectly cooked. Delicious! Highly recommend!

After having a mediocre meal the night before at Ken & Sue's, we made sure to ask for several opinions before deciding on the Ore House. We heard rave reviews for not only the best place for steak but one of the locals went as far as to say the best steak in Colorado. The decor was old and worn and rather dark but we stayed open minded. Our waitress was nice enough and started us off with some tasty mini cornbread muffins. They came with bacon butter and we had to ask for plain butter since we didn't care for it. We both ordered the Filet Mignon and were disappointed to hear it was not prime but choice. We were told however it was "wet aged" and assured we would not be disappointed. My Filet was $27 and my fiance's was $39. His was cooked the way it was ordered and my was over cooked. I sent it back and waited and waited.......by the time I got it back my partner had finished his meal and I was very hungry at this point. Surprise it came and was blood red, YUK! Sent it back again and waited and waited........ Finally, it arrived and a little redder than I would have liked but couldn't wait any longer. I agreed that there was very little flavor and it was not the tenderness we are accustomed to. We got a brief apology from the waitress but the manager never showed up until we were leaving to ask how the meal was and again an insincere "sorry". We will never return to this restaurant. We walked a few blocks and went and got some Frozen Yogurt-best food of the evening!

Not worth the money- so many better choices down the street for these prices. Mediocre steaks at best. I wasn't very happy with my warm ribeye. Besides having noticeably sat for too long before being brought out to my table, it was just not very good- everything was just too bland for my taste. Looking at the prices on the menu, you'd expect 4 star-quality steaks, but it's not much better than a steak from Denny's. This place is just a tourist trap, and as a local I won't be back.

Awesome food. I had the petite filet mignon with peppercorn sauce, loaded potato and my husband had the ribeye and we shared the asparagus. We were both very happy with the food and service. Loved the oyster appetizers too! We will definitely be back next time we are in Durango.

Ask for Tim to be your server...he will insure a dining experience that exceeds your expectations! Road tripping across country as we were, my boyfriend and I were anxious for a substantially, delicious dinner and a warm sanctuary from the cold of Colorado. We were actually planning to dine at Randy's, but upon seeing a rather blue haired crowd populating that restaurant, we promptly wandered across the street into the Ore House. Oh what a gold mine! The warm, rustic environment was a perfect retreat. Great ambience... I loved the soundtrack of acoustic music playing in the background. It's all the music you love but haven't heard in so long. Of course, it is the food that will bring you back with a variety of steaks to suit any taste. We opted to share our food selections this evening and the healthy portions served up at the Ore House were perfectly suited to this decision. The arugula and spinach salad was a delightful start with balanced flavors and more than enough for two. We followed with a T-Bone steak accompanied by 2 sides: the broccolini and the sweet corn. Our steak was undercooked, so while Tim had the chef fire it up to medium as ordered, we took great pleasure with the sides, which were extremely satiating. The multigrain sourdough bread was especially nice dipped in the broccolini's roasted garlic butter. When our steak was returned to the table, I noticed it looked overdone this time, appearing more well than done to medium. We were enjoying ourselves so thoroughly however, I decided to overlook it. Tim, our waiter was perfectly attentive and noticed the situation, promptly offering to have a new steak prepared to order. I have to say I was extremely pleased by this unsolicited gesture and while it is on point, it is unfortunate this does not happen more often during a dining experience. The manager served our perfectly prepared medium steak and provided a gracious discount on the bill for the error with our first order. The Ore House did a tremendous job with turning a common error into an outstanding first impression...well done!

Food was good. Don't like the alacart menus. Two steaks, one potato, two drinks. With tip $100.00. Not worth it.

The Ore House has always been one of our favorite restaurants. We travel from Utah or California each year near Christmas time to eat there. The quality and service is as good as ever but it's now more expensive for less. Be sure to take advantage of the continuing offers. I just noticed a caution about false positive reviews of this restaurant. I find that highly dubious.

To be honest I have only been to the Ore House once, but that once didn't inspire me to go back. I had their porkchop special which was very mediocre, nothing to write home about certainly. My mother was similarly less than inspired with her steak. The whole meal was mediocre except the bill. If the food was about the half the price it would be a good value but considering the price I would say try someplace else in Durango, there are plenty of options.
This was my third visit to the Ore House and I must say I was disappointed. The service was lackluster and for the price the food wasn't too much better. I had the "Rancher" ribeye and it was not up to par for a $38 steak. The server forgot about my second beer and the bacon and cheese ($2) for my baked potato. We could also hear the table next to us complaining about the service and it was the gentleman's birthday. The reason it gets three stars instead of two is that we got a free dessert out of the deal. Not sure if it was supposed to be free or if the server forgot about that too.

We live in Texas but come to Durango several times a year. The Ore House has always been our favorite restaurant. Their steaks are pricey for the area but are quite good. However, they had a great salad bar that came with the meal. They no longer offer the salad bar and are now charging a premium price for the salad. We have no problem paying for a $36 steak plus $6 for a peppercorn topping but the greed of management now having us pay for a salad really galls me. For this reason we will no longer patronize the Ore House and I hope that others will do the same until they return the salad bar. My message to management is either lower the price of the entrees or return the complimentary salad bar.

Derek C.
The Ore House disappointed me primarily because of the high ratings on Yelp. The food was good - I had a chicken dish - but nothing special to warrant the ratings or price. The green chiles on my baked potato was a nice change of pace for someone not from the area. Service was really good and ambience was authentic western. However, $20 for a chicken dish that was not anything spectacular left me wanting. Not sure I would return should I find myself in Durango again.

This place was highly recommended by a street salesman and this site. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive. We weren't blown away by the food at all. It was average at best. The salad bar was small and the options were slim. The helpings were of good size. The atmosphere was very nice and the hosts were very pleasant.

My coworker and I were in town for business and everyone that we asked for a good place to eat recommended the Ore House..from the car rental gals to the hotel front desk, so we thought we would check them out. It definitely didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar to get a 15% discount, and ended up meeting the bartender Mark. He was by far the best part of Durango. Way to go Mark! He was friendly, funny, personable and made AWESOME recommendations. My coworker had the Teryaki steak and I had the fillet and they were both cooked perfectly to our liking. The salad bar had a good selection of fixing and dressings. We each had a baked potato and per the yelp recommendations added the green chili on top (YUMMY!). The chili had the perfect amount of spice and flavor. We ended the night with the best butter pecan rum cake I have ever had. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic steakhouse when they are visiting beautiful Durango, CO.

Way overpriced for what you get. The steak was decent but not spectacular. The salad bar was pathetic, only a few toppings.

Very good steak house. 1970s feel. Offers local, grass fed, hormone-free beef that is as good as it gets. Awesome pepper steak and filets. Get the green chili on the side for the baked potato (a Yelp recommendation). There is a kids menu. Only con: Salad bar is somewhat limited probably due to size of restaurant. Great service although there is usually a wait to be seated (a good sign because it is popular). Full bar; my favorite place in Durango. Thank goodness for Yelp on my iphone.

the best ribeye steaks in the 4 corners!!! we ate here in april 2015. we made reservations because we were not sure what the wait times would be like. well, when we arrived there were only 3 tables being occupied. the hostess was very nice. the feel of the interior of the restaurant was very miner'ish. our server did a great job. all that has been mentioned was great but the real reason why this place earned 5 stars is because the food! we ordered civiche for our appetizer. it was our first time ever and it was awesome! the server recommended the tomahawk steak (32 oz bone in ribeye) and HOLY BATMAN!!! the best ribeye i had in the area. no joke. we ordered mac & cheese and creamed corn as our sides. both were very good. for dessert we ordered cheese cake and creme brulee. again, they were amazing! our bill before tip was $124 and that was without adult beverages!! it was so worth every dollar! i would definitely make the drive and spend that kind of money for the ore house experience!!
5-Stars All The Way!! If a large bathroom is important to you, this isn't your place LOL. Aside from the hysterically small men's room (you have to see it to believe it) this place delivers on so many levels I don't know where to start. We arrived early for a business dinner and bellied up to the bar for a quick cocktail. Ordered a single Vodka, on the rocks and the very friendly bartender delivered a generous pour. I hate when restaurants are stingy on the pour. Not this place! The restaurant itself is small. I recommend getting a reservation which is easy to do online. The menu is simple and includes steak and seafood with the sides ordered separate similar to Ruth's Chris or Morton's. By the way, the food we received here at Ore House was better than both of those restaurants. I ordered a small Prime Flat Iron steak (10 oz) with the Tobacco Onions (Holy Crapoly are these things good!!!!). Steak came out piping hot and cooked to perfection and cut easily without a knife. When you order with the Tobacco Onions (like deep fried onion strips) you get three dipping sauces on the side. I never used any of the sauces as the steak was incredibly delicious by itself of with the fried onions. We ordered a bottle of Silver Oak Cab also and if you know your wines, you know this one is particularly good... and not too overpriced in the restaurant. And served at the perfect temperature. The staff are incredible. No less than three different servers stopped to check how our meal was going. Top notch all the way. Go! Enjoy!!!

This my opinion and my opinion only, Filet Mignon should be served without bacon. If you want bacon ask for it but as a general rule steaks should be served in its most purest form, medium rare with salt and pepper period. Everthing else takes away the amazing flavor of a good aged steak. I had high expectations of a place like Ore, ambiance is good, service is good but I was a bit dissapointed when I asked for a Filet with no bacon and it was still brought to me with it.

Ore House is a really nice and somewhat intimate restaurant. Call ahead and make a reservation! My boyfriend and I were walking along Main Street and saw Ore House. The outside was a bit deceiving- we anticipated a more casual restaurant. Upon walking in, we were surprised to find a nice, cozy restaurant. The host informed us that there had been a cancellation and we could be seated right away. We took him up on this offer and were seated. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly. They serve complimentary cornbread in a small flat iron dish with bacon butter. I am not a fan of bacon (I know, I know), and I still enjoyed the butter - just a hint of the bacon taste! I ordered the steak and fries and my boyfriend ordered the chicken Cordon Bleu with the crab macaroni and cheese. We both really enjoyed our meals. My steak was cooked perfect, the salad was delicious and the fries were good. The Crab Mac was amazing. For dessert we ordered ice-cream and tiramisu. Perfect to share! Ticket price was about $100 - but well worth it!

Best steak I have ever eaten, hands down. Our meal was perfect, the service was wonderful. The only bad thing was the bartender had run out of Peychaud's bitters for a Sazerac, then forgetting our drink order and serving 6 others who came in after us while trying to claim he was "going around the bar to be fair." The maître d' let him know we had been waiting for our drinks but that just seemed to make the bartender move slower. When we finally got our drinks 45 minutes later they were delicious and the maître d' did comp them so it helped with our disappointment regarding the poor bar service. I strongly recommend the Prime Rib Eye and have it Ore house style, and the creamed corn side dish is great!

Recommeded to us by the bed and breakfast we are staying at...what a night! We started with the steak tartare. SO FREAKING GOOD! Perfect buttered crostinis and baby greens surrounds the garlic and oil dressed steak and egg yolk. Probably the most amazing food I have eaten in some time. Next course was surf & surf & turf. Rare bacon wrapped filet medallions, crab and lobster on top of decadent hollandaise. Asparagus and potatoes. The ambiance was casual but the food was 5 star. The drinks were original and fun. I would happily drive to Durango next week to eat here again. Lisa, our server was unbelievable. The whole experience was out of this world.

One of my all time favorite restaurants! We love coming to Durango so we can eat here. The steaks are fantastic, as is all the food! Service was exceptional. Love the crab Mac and Cheese and the skillet cornbread!

We went for NYE fun. The staff were both friendly and prompt, however the food has some mixed reviews. 1) The salads were slightly over dressed, which is a bummer because the dressing were fabulous. 2) The cokes for our libations were flat, not a good problem for NYE. 3) The steaks were cooked perfectly, get the dry aged it's amazing. 4) The think layer of cocoa powder on top of the tiramisu pretty much ruined any chance of tasting the rest of the desert. 5) Nonetheless, the sides won us over with a lemony crab mac and cheese and balsamic brussels sprouts.

Steak, salad and potatoes... Simple to master right? This place has it DOWN! Great cuts of steak, an awesomely, fresh salad bar before your entree and a rustic mountain town/mining atmosphere make this place a must for any local or visitor. I don't go anywhere else in town when I want a good steak, so if it's beef you're craving, seek this joint out. Easy to find, near the corner of College & Main

This is hands down one of the top 3 restaurants in Durango. I have never had a bad meal at The Ore House. Their kitchen staff takes their craft seriously, and every plate is gorgeous as well as delicious. The Front of House staff is friendly and knowledgable, and always makes me feel at home. I strongly suggest the Surf & Surf & Turf with a side of their Crab Mac & Cheese!

The Ore House is hands down my favorite restaurant in town. Now that I'm no longer living in town, every time I go back I will be going to the restaurant... even if it's just for a drink served by the very friendly staff. Every time a friend or relative came into town when I was living there... I would ALWAYS take them here and each time they said it's the best steak they've ever had. If you have reservations... I suggest you call instead of booking online or on an app like Open Table because if you have a special request, it's MUCH easier for them to fill it if they know about it in advance (for example... the wine that goes into my favorite drink... wasn't being made anymore... so they did their best to find a substitute and the drink was delicious!). I highly recommend this to anyone who wants an amazing steak... and they also have delicious sides and fabulous drinks!

Disappointed with the steaks we got tonight. I have been here before once and had a different experience. This place is even more expensive than before. But I brought my family here and it was sadly not what I expected. The steaks came out and they were flavorless. It is just to expensive for disappointment.

You could pretty much sum up my review with two words: bacon butter. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the jalapeno mac and cheese was fantastic. One of the best steaks I have had in Durango.

Definitely has picked up its game after really going downhill for a decade or more; however, pricing is beyond ridiculous for this market. We just dined at The Compound in Santa Fe for less $$ and more courses!

I'm bummed to have to give this place only three stars. With a bit of improvement, The Ore House could be a five star joint. After sitting down, we started looking around the restaurant, and the decor is really cool. It's very late 1800s early 1900s Durango in there. A couple sitting next to us recommended their ribeyes so I got the Prime Ribeye, and my wife got the normal Ribeye. Oddly enough, after they recommended that, we heard the waitress apologizing to them and offering them 15% off their bill. The bread came out, and it is pretty unique and epic. They serve the little corn bread muffins with bacon butter, and it really is delicious. In addition to our steaks, we ordered creamed corn and mashed potatoes. I ordered my steak rare plus, and my wife ordered her steak rare. Our meals took a long time to come out. The waitress didn't check in on us very often, and I noticed that a couple that sat down after us had already begun eating their food. When the steaks finally came out, they LOOKED amazing. And I immediately took a bite out of the creamed corn, and I must say that the preparation is really unique. Definitely get this as a side if you come here. It comes in a little skillet, and it's baked with a crust on top. My wife cut into her steak, and it looked awesome. I cut into mine.. and... it was not red at all. In fact, there wasn't even any pink. It was burnt all the way through. It took a while for the waitress to ask how our steaks were, and while I'm not one to send back a steak if it's off by one level... i.e. if I order rare, but I get medium rare, fine... no big deal... but this was not really edible. She apologized, and she took it back. She brought me a plate so I could have some of my wife's steak and the sides. It took a really long time for my $40 steak to come out for the second time, and by the time it did, I had already munched on enough sides and my wife's steak that I didn't even really feel like eating most of it, which is a shame! When it was all said and done, the waitress wasn't even the person who brought us the bill. It was the bus boy. He told us that they "took care of the drinks" for us. Took care of the drinks? I got a beer, and my wife got an iced tea. On a bill of over $100, they gave us like $6 free. Meanwhile, the table next to us got their order botched, and they were offered 15%. This is a top notch place, but if the service is going to be poor and the steaks are going to be overcooked, especially for the price they're asking, then it gets three stars in my book. Seeing as how the table next to us had similar issues, just have your expectations in line when you come here. If they can tighten up their service and not burn their steaks, then this place could be a really great restaurant.

Few places get a zero but this place is well deserving. (They got a 1 because I could not leave a 0) I have been to the Ore House 3 times. The first time the food was so so. The soup was over cooked and the steak was way over cooked. The only thing worse than the food was service. These people do not care, from having to ask for water ( more like beg) to getting into an argument about how the steak was over cooked. But before I would give a zero, I would give anyone a second chance. Well... I tried two times to no avail. Both times the place closed early. Staff made it clear on the last attempt that they were more interested in getting to steamers and suggested I go there for good food. While this place had strong reviews. I think, much like the food the serve, it is past its prime. Luckily I walked around the corner and found Ken and Sue's. It is everything the Oar House is not. Staff is friendly food is great and they are open when they say. Next time you're in Durango walk past the terrible ore house and try Ken and Sue's. You will not be disappointed!

Perfect drink, steak, service and an excellent night out. Get the peppercorn steak sauce. Five beaming stars. Honestly not a bad thing to say. We had the Mac n cheese. Every thing was perfect. Steak cooked exactly right. Peppercorn sauce - I have to mention that again. Ammmmmmazing! Martini was divine and the smoked cherrywood manhattan to die for. Not cheap, but worth every penny!!!

Went here for Christmas dinner. My friend took a sip of her water and the glass shattered on her lip and cut it. The server who also was conveniently the manager asked what she could do to fix it. We replied she should comp the meal...she offered to comp drinks and when the bill came only comped the drinks that the friend drank and not for the whole table. I've worked at a lot of places that would have comped the meal and given a gift certificate. Complainant manager and server, mediocre food, and dangerous to top it off. Catch a clue Ore House.

We splurged on an adult night out while vacationing with another family over Thanksgiving and chose the Ore House out of several great options in Durango. The food was fantastic! We had surf and turf, lobster, and the flat iron steak and every dish was phenomenal. And our server was both friendly and efficient. Overall, a fantastic evening out at the Ore House.

I've eaten here twice and both times exceeded expectations. The meats were perfect and the cornbread was to die for. This is a perfect, cozy place to go after a beautiful day on the slopes.

The place is really small and romantic. The service was great and they made sure we had what we needed at all times. The mac n cheese with green chile was outstanding. My husbands steak was cooked nicely and tasted great. My steak which was ordered med well came out well done, burnt and tasteless. Our waitress came by asked if it was ok. I explained to her the issue. She offered to get me a new one I didn't want one so they took it 1/2 off the bill. So over all it was ok place to eat. For the price I would think the steaks would be perfection.

Came here the first Saturday in Nov. when visiting DRO for a birthday dinner. Locals apparently are quite aware, but FYI: parking blows. Esp on Saturday nights, so prepare yourself to drive around and around and around in hopes of getting that illusive parking spot. Got seated right away, which was appreciated since we wasted time looking for parking. The bar menu boasted quite the cocktail/beer/wine variety...it was hard one to say the least. The server came by and was a delight; two enthusiastic thumbs up. Wish I remembered her name though! Anyway, she went over some of the cocktail specials and said the smoked cherry Manhattan was there signature cocktail. None of us are big Manhattan drinkers, but we were all intrigued...luckily the birthday girl went with it. We love the presentation and smell, but ultimately Manhattan's are not her/our drink. The men ordered some whiskeys, neat; I went with the whiskey/mint/honey/lime number and it was DELICIOUS. Well balanced; great job bartenders. Now onto the food menu...holy smokes, what a list. Lots of great sounding soups/starters/entrees/sides. I decided to try the French onion soup; it's a fav of mine. The croutons were added in right add the end, so they had great crunch and texture to it. Otherwise, this soup was forgettable unfortunately. Just didn't hold a candle against other great French onions I've had before. Birthday girl got a side salad; it's huge, easily shared for two! Cornbread and bacon butter finally came...the helper girl said they were warming them up and would be right out, man they were room temp (at best!) so that was disappointing. They still tasted good thankfully, but quite a letdown when we were all looking forward to this promised freshly warm bread. oh well. Next up were the mains...we had a couple of their signature Delmonico ribeyes....man, those were SO GOOD. Perfectly cooked and juicy, well-seasoned hunks of meat. My husband got a surf n turf option: petite filet mignon and a lobster tail. he destroyed those. Everyone LOVED their mains. Both in-laws ordered a loaded baked potato...gi-normous! i enjoyed the mac n cheese (came with green chilies!) It was quite good. As we had a birthday in the house, naturally we had to order dessert!! Creme brule mini-trio and a caramel apple crisp. The creme brule trio had 3 unique flavors: lavender, matcha green tea, and lemon. would've been nice just to have a plain one, but oh well. they were all pretty interesting...i cant remember, but one of them was the clear winner. the caramel apple crisp was good, not great, only because they left the apple peel on the baked apples, which was fairly disappointing IMO. they recommend ordering in advance, but we waited til the end of dinner so we could make a little room! a bonus for the Bday girl: however old you're turning, you get that % off your bill. They gave her a 55% discount, woo whoo! Score...all in all a solid steakhouse and one I'd definitely return to!! The in-laws said they'll be returning too :) great overall dining experience, two thumbs up!!

Steaks were outstanding, sides the best. (Mac and cheese is incredible) meat in every item on the menu is perfect. Hayseed Dixie playing in background was just outstanding too.

My husband and I were so excited to have a night out. We decided to go to the Ore House, it had been a while since we had been. It used to be one if our favorite places to eat. When we got there the menu had changed and our favorite dishes were no longer on the menu. It is now a la carte, the prices are outrageous. But we thought we would give it a try. The appetizer we ordered was Calamari and Artichoke. The calamari was very good but we did not like the Artichoke. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and it was awful. My husband had the filet and it was over cooked and dry. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. The wait staff was very nice that is about the only thing they have going for them.

Ate at the bar. Extremely friendly and efficient service. Bartender gave me tastes of beer or other selections as needed. Food was very good but very expensive for the quantities given. For those prices I'd expect bigger pieces of fish or for it to not be all a-la-cart. There just wasn't a lot there for a very expensive piece of fish. I got the onion soup, salmon and a side of asparagus. All great but the onion soup was just okay served in a small delicate bowl. For a rustic looking building and town, it'd be much better if they served this in the cast iron skillets they use for the mushroom appetizer...with a big chunk of bread and a lot more cheese. French onion soup does not belong in a small bowl at small portions. Asparagus was very good. Sauce was a little too heavy and overwhelming, though. Maybe use less or serve it on the side. Made my crisp healthy vegetables seem like the most unhealthy option in front of me. I think the menu has changed since some of these reviews as I didn't see any salad bar around. I'd go back. It's a nice place with a fun little bar.

Excellent menu, excellent service. Had a smoked cherry wood Manhattan which was absolutely perfect, and split a flat iron steak with green peppercorn sauce and mac and cheese - perfectly executed. Kristen and Kyle provided flawless service. A must in Durango.

What can I say about a the Ore House? The atmosphere is the old west with the best steaks, appetizers and wine list. We enjoyed the service and our food.

Top notch! We celebrated our wedding by having the best of dinners. Our reservation was honored immediately and the atmosphere was cozy and fitting for Durango and so close to many Hotels. Even fresh flowers in the trendy designed bathroom! Britney took excellent care of us from the very beginning and didn't hound or abandon us. Cerveche was nicely spiced chips super thin, cream corn is a must order. Both our steaks cooked to perfection as ordered so tender and tasty. Corn bread with bacon butter awesome. Truly a night to savor.

Truly an amazing steak house! Being a chef and restaurant consultant I eat out quite a bit and this place is first class! The service is just as good as the food (which is pretty damn good!). I recommend any of the steaks "ore house" style! I also like the pepper steak style as well. The baby iceberg salad is a great take on the classic wedge salad.

Epic prime steaks, fantastic wine selection - by far the best meal in Durango, try the NY with bearnaise with a side of Brussels,

(5)Heather B.
(4)Olivia W.
(4)Scott W.
Great steakhouse. You can tell the owners and waiters care about the details, from the bacon butter and corn bread, to the drinks with home made bitters, and obviously great steak options!
(5)Sara E.
(3)Maria G.

We were looking for a good meal while in Durango, what we found was a GREAT meal!
(5)Ginger G.

(5)Roger F.
Was recommended by two different people and they were right. Fantastic steak, really good creamed corn, and excellent service. The staff was very friendly. We will be back the next time we are in Durango.

We had a nice steak dinner at the Ore House. Nice ambiance. The food was very good and served promptly. I had the Mac & Cheese and Sautéed Mushroom sides, both were excellent and a meal in themselves. The Rib Eye was very tasty but a little grisly. The service was a little spotty, and the meal was expensive, but a nice dinner anyway.
(3)Debbie M.
(2)Samuel R.
(4)Robert H.
(2)John N.
(1)Dan H.
Great old time atmosphere. If you want a steak, this is where you need to come. Many different cuts and the grill will cool perfectly. Definitely a return trip on my future.
(4)Ryan R.
(4)John W.
the restaurant went through a remodel and a major menu overhaul a few years ago and WOW they hit it out of the park. Enjoy
(5)Kyle K.
More than your average Steakhouse, Ore House features local Durango fare backed by a great staff! Anneliese was amazingly personable and offered the best recommendations; she also may have convinced us to move to Durango. Keep up the good work!
(5)Nicole M.
Excellent meat the mashed potatoes are a little on the salty side but still good.
(4)Leslie H.
(5)Jackie C.
I will say that when I wrote to the owner about my experience, he was nothing but professional, cordial and apologetic. If I ever make it back to Durango, I may try again.
(2)Randy M.
Five stars!
(5)Maggie C.
(5)Lori K.
(5)Rebecca S.
Overall good food but overpriced! My filet ore style was great but my husband's strip was overcooked. We didn't get to eat together. The artichoke and calamari with green chili pineapple jam was awesome! Sides were another $7 on top of expensive steaks which were already $35 with a sauce.
(3)Rissa R.
(3)Patrick W.
(5)Jen T.
Female manager is such a pleasure to speak with every time we visit. good service and food. busy, so make reservations.
(4)Whitney P.
When you tire of the chains, places trying to hard and average places it's great to go to place that has excellent service, unique interior and good food. After a day of touristing this past summer we stepped into this kitchy place and had a great steak at a reasonalbe price.
(4)Brian S.
We had fillet & crab legs and a ribeye & lobster. Both meals were perfectly cooked. Delicious! Highly recommend!
(5)Jo Ann C.
(1)Robo S.
(2)Maureen K.

(4)Bob B.
Food was good. Don't like the alacart menus. Two steaks, one potato, two drinks. With tip $100.00. Not worth it.
(2)Robert A.
(5)Nancy P.
(2)Ryan G.
The restaurant is really interesting. First of all, it is TINY! There cannot be more than about 10 tables. The kitchen is right off the dining area, so you can basically see the chefs preparing each meal - which says a lot - they certainly have nothing to hide. The food is good. My group had basically everything from seafood to steak - which was all good. Each entrée comes with the salad bar which is not extensive but ample. If you're looking for a good steak with variety - definitely visit the Ore House!
(4)Christopher T.

Outstanding food and service!

Ribeye was just alright. The creme brulee duo was the best thing we had.

Service was great, salad bar was pretty pathetic (just the basics) but the steaks were great (a little pricey). Short and sweet.

(3)Derek C.

Excellent steak not cheap but well worth it.

Great atmosphere, food & service!

Great place! Went with a group of 6 and had a blast. Salad buffet, steaks, scallops.

Excellent Steak House, great service, very nice ambiance and the food is quality. I won't bore you with details. A bit pricey but you get exactly what you pay for. Good food and good service.

the best ribeye steaks in the 4 corners!!! we ate here in april 2015. we made reservations because we were not sure what the wait times would be like. well, when we arrived there were only 3 tables being occupied. the hostess was very nice. the feel of the interior of the restaurant was very miner'ish. our server did a great job. all that has been mentioned was great but the real reason why this place earned 5 stars is because the food! we ordered civiche for our appetizer. it was our first time ever and it was awesome! the server recommended the tomahawk steak (32 oz bone in ribeye) and HOLY BATMAN!!! the best ribeye i had in the area. no joke. we ordered mac & cheese and creamed corn as our sides. both were very good. for dessert we ordered cheese cake and creme brulee. again, they were amazing! our bill before tip was $124 and that was without adult beverages!! it was so worth every dollar! i would definitely make the drive and spend that kind of money for the ore house experience!!

I LOVE THE ORE HOUSE!!! I know, I know... It's not hip, it's not new, it's not flashy... But, damn it's good!!! As a family we had; Ribeye, T-Bone, fingerling potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, lobster mac and cheese (with green chile) and creme brûlée :-) Best steaks around! Lobster mac and cheese is OFF THE HOOK! Mushrooms and fingerling potatoes INCREDIBLE! I hit the food wall peeps! I wish I could have done more damage, but you can only take in so much awesomeness!!! Mark was a fantastic server - oh! Almost forgot - ask Mark to bring you corn bread with BACON BUTTER!!! Boom! That just happened :-)

(5)Erin F.

(4)Sean M.
(5)Kim A.
(5)Scott G.
Excellent dinner and service only bad thing was they ran out of the whiskey cake desert have to go back for that Ryan the owner out front and checking on guest nice touch
(4)Sean P.
Disappointed with the steaks we got tonight. I have been here before once and had a different experience. This place is even more expensive than before. But I brought my family here and it was sadly not what I expected. The steaks came out and they were flavorless. It is just to expensive for disappointment.
(2)Eric L.
You could pretty much sum up my review with two words: bacon butter. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the jalapeno mac and cheese was fantastic. One of the best steaks I have had in Durango.
(4)Bill R.

Outstanding!!!!!! Great food, great service, great drinks! Best to try and make reservations but they do accept walk ins

(5)Kristen S.
I've eaten here twice and both times exceeded expectations. The meats were perfect and the cornbread was to die for. This is a perfect, cozy place to go after a beautiful day on the slopes.
(5)Jennifer L.

(2)TJ B.
(4)Luke D.
Excellent menu, excellent service. Had a smoked cherry wood Manhattan which was absolutely perfect, and split a flat iron steak with green peppercorn sauce and mac and cheese - perfectly executed. Kristen and Kyle provided flawless service. A must in Durango.
(5)Nicole O.
What can I say about a the Ore House? The atmosphere is the old west with the best steaks, appetizers and wine list. We enjoyed the service and our food.
(4)Kerrie F.
(5)Donald B.
(5)Brian L.
Epic prime steaks, fantastic wine selection - by far the best meal in Durango, try the NY with bearnaise with a side of Brussels,
