Quick take out on the way home from a late work session. Enchiladas, tacos and tostada shared with another person. Good value for the price and nice slightly spicy flavor.

One stars because the salsa was good and so was 1 taco. That's it. Food: we both got a taco plate. The tacos had tortilla and meat. That's it. NO CILANTRO in sight. A little bit of rabbit lettuce and gross chopped tomatoes was the only garnish on the side. Limes at salsa bar were old and shrively. Only the salsa and chips were good, but the kicker, you pay extra for a refill of chips. Al pastor was good. Carne Asada tasted rotten - kinda like it was musty goat meat. Service: one guy and he clearly didn't care about our order or our happiness. Was unhappy and short. Happy hour just passed but there was no one in there - would have liked to get the deal but not essential. Authentic style Mexican food is easy to make good - this place fails.

Going back, the crispy relleno was on point, and so was the gordita. Salsa is great, but chips were just okay. Topped off meal with a Negro Modelo. Overall, great value for some authentic Mexican food.

I stopped in just after 9pm on Monday. Chips are stale and cold which I had to ask for twice. The one server did not know what he was doing for the 7 people in the restaurant. The place was dirty when I got in. Should have turned around. Tables sat dirty the whole time I was there. Must have never heard of walking plates back when going back to the kitchen. Or taking more than one order at a time. I was asked what my order was after 30 minutes. Because there was two orders in the the back that he didn't want to mess up. I never ordered. Then I was was asked what I wanted. That's about the only good thing in the place. I had three tacos. I was surprised they came out hot and tasty. But it was in a Togo container . I never said it was to go. This place need to step up on the service and It will rock.

I have been on this taco chain since I discovered their location on east colfax. The tacos at that location were amazing. This location looks small on the outside but it's huge on the inside. It's equipped with a full bar and upstairs. The set up in the main dining area is interesting and our table was really wobbly. The tacos were good but not as good as the afore mentioned location. They also had sautéed jalapeños where as the other location has sautéed Serrano peppers and the jalapeños are a little too big. But the food was good. The salsa was fresh. My coworker and I came on our lunch break. She ordered the flautas. They were nothing to rave about. I want to go back at night because maybe there will be a better chef.

Paid $9 for 3 terrible tacos. Got the marinated steak tacos which were super salty and didn't come with any salsas. With a name called Tacos and Salsas, you think it was standard. Definitely not coming back here. Really wished I can go back in time and went somewhere else.

Honestly, my boyfriend and I ate here for lunch and now we're back for dinner. We both love finding authentic ethnic cuisine and let me tell you, this place is REAL Mexican food! They have a salsa bar that you can try 7 different salsas, add them to your tacos where the meat is marinated and cooked perfectly. I recommend marinated pork or steak. The tacos are cheap, delicious, and honestly probably the best tacos I've ever had. We will be coming here, or the other 2 locations any time we don't want to spend a lot of money but want great food. Highly recommended.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while, so we dropped in for a fairly late Friday lunch. There was one waiter that seemed to be serving 2/3 of the restaurant, and two others that seemed to be moving at a snail's pace. Unfortunately, we got one of the snails. 20 minutes before we had the opportunity to place our order, 10 minutes before we got our drinks. We were promised water when our drinks came out, but had to ask twice for water. Another 20 minutes before the food came out, missing some of the toppings. Even though our waiter passed us twice, I couldn't get his attention, and had to go back to the kitchen to get our sour cream. That being said, the food (when we finally got it) was pretty good. We will probably give them another try, but if our quick lunch takes and hour and a half again, that will be it

Tacos, tacos, tacos... I'll be dreaming of this place for months to come! My boyfriend and I were in town for only a few days, but we hit up this place every single day - we couldn't help ourselves! The waitress and waiters are great, the food is amazing, and the price cannot be beat. LOVE!

No one in restaurant at 8pm. Should have been my clue. Food tasteless to bad. Left most of it and went to Taco Bell. Dissappointed

This place was great. I've been told that I can be really picky about Mexican food, seeing how I'm from Los Angeles where the majority of it is authentic. This is probably the most authentic place I've been outside of LA. I had the taco platter. 2 Asada, 1 carnitas, and 1 barbacoa. They were great. The tacos are always my default, because I figure if you can't get those right, than there's no point of trying anything else. I will be returning.

I loved this place. It's a cheap, greasy, Mexican joint with a lot of character, but no decor. It's not nice, it's not fancy; it is what it is. The food is cheap, the salsa bar is fantastic, and the staff are friendly. Are you going to get hand-made table side quac and a tasty craft margarita? No. Are you going to get good, cheap Mexican food with delicious salsas and possibly a spanish soap opera playing on the background? YES Anyone who rates the place on their lack of decor needs not not expect much from a strip-mall located Mexican joint.

If you have a hankering for running to the border at Taco Bell DON'T , When you have a need to have Mexican food done right and done by good chefs stop by this place, Their spirits selection is phenomenal, large televisions to boot to watch a fight

I just had some tacos so i cant say much about any other foods. The tacos were actually a lot bigger than the what the menu made them look like. Definitely not mad about that. However, they weren't that good. Menu shows a picture of traditional style adoba slowly turning by an open fire. That's definitely not what you get. At least not the flavor from slow cooking it. The service was very slow. Lunch crowd with one server and one cook.

I had an excellent experience here. The food was delicious with the right amount of spice and for a good price. The house margarita was only four dollars and delicious. Service was excellent as well. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for this type of food at a good price.

Yum! We can't wait to go back! Our friends always talk about this place. On New Years Eve we were riding the light rail into Denver for a concert and needed somewhere fast and convenient to eat. This was perfect! Half a block or so off the 16th Street Mall Ride it was super convenient. We were seated immediately, received helpful and attentive service, our food was out so fast, and it was DELICIOUS! They start you out with chips and salsa at your table and also offer a bar. We ordered four tacos for about $8 to split. We tried the Barbocoa, shredded chicken, and 2 Deshebrada tacos, which was just shredded beef. There is a little salsa bar offering different types and heats of salsas, onion and cilantro, lime, etc. Everything was amazing. Just try it for yourself. The staff was very friendly and sweet. We can't wait to go back! It's going to be a staple stop for us when we head downtown in the future!

Ok this place has horrible customer service...except for Giovanni who just started working there yesterday. First of all it seems like everything we ordered they didn't have. I ordered a torta de milanesa, but they didn't have milanesa or bread. We had to settle for tacos which were ok. Abraham the other guy "helping" us was very fidgety and looked as if he was supper busy, when there was hardly anyone there. We asked for three waters he forgot to bring one, we asked again and he forgot it again. He said he would give us free nachos for the food shortage inconveniences, but we didn't want nachos....so naturally you would think he would have discounted the food we ordered, but of course that wasn't the case. We had a full bill, and Abraham refused to talk to us, we asked for a manager but apparently there wasn't one on site that night. The whole experience was just unreal. They do have cheap drinks so if I come back it will be strictly for drinks.

Cheap, gaudy, Divey....and, utterly delicious!!!! My coworkers and I stopped in today or lunch, craving someplace inexpensive but filling with maybe a beer and NOT pub food. We were not disappointed!! You can get individual street tacos for $1.75, but I recommend the four taco basket or the three taco plate with rice and beans. They offer a variety of meats; I highly recommend the carnitas and barbacoa!!! Both were juicy, just a little spicy, and so, so tender. The al pastor looked incredible; a huge portion of grilled meat with peppers and onions served with tortillas, beans and rice. The house salsa served with chips was mild, but mix with one of their hotter salsas from the salsa bar and you're in for a treat! The pico de gallo was fresh and delicious, loaded with jalepenos! Service was a little slow, but I can forgive that as we were a large group. The only real disappointment was that they managed to be out of Coronas, but our waiter was quick to recommend alternatives.

I was so hopeful... but what a let down. The closest mexican place to my house sucks : / When we walked in and saw it was empty maybe we should have taken that as a sign. The decor was over the top bright & colorful with lots of murals... that was pretty cool. Salsa bar, pretty cool, minus the salsa fresca being mostly large chunks of onions. The servers were very quick and friendly and checked on us a few times. The good: the rice was okay and my bf liked the salsa. The bad: the rest of the food. The chips for the salsa were stale. We both got the 3 tacos plate and just... ugh. My beans were crusty and the cheese on them was hard and burned. My tacos... I had grilled chicken, carnitas & asada... the grilled chicken was in large chunks and was cooked more like asian teriyaki chicken and was kinda soft inside. That texture wasn't working for me. The asada tasted like beef jerky, but there wasn't much of it to even taste because it had majority of fat chunks in it and finally the carnitas... looked promising, but it was salty and spicy and just didn't taste right... I was pretty sad that all 3 of my tacos were not edible... and on top of the meat in each not being good even the tortillas were hard around the edges. I love and know mexican food well... and this was just not good mexican food. I gave them 2 stars because the rice was okay and they were friendly. But I would never go back here to eat again.

I'm sad I cheated on my diet for this place. The beef tacos were so-so, but then came my chicken enchilada. It was disgusting! Chicken was dry and hard, probably cooked days ago, and the sauce was absolutely revolting. Oh yeah, and the super awesome salsa? I've had better at Chipotle. Never ever again.

I was terribly excited when I first heard that Tacos Y Salsas had opened a location downtown. I went in to a nearly empty restaurant for a late lunch (about 2:00) assuming, based on previous reviews, that I should expect slow service. On the contrary, I was seated, had ordered, and had received a plate of giant tacos within about 6-7 minutes. Granted, there were only two or three other occupied tables at the restaurant, but I had absolutely no problems. Now, on to the most important part of this review: the food. Regardless of which meat(s) you choose, the tacos at Tacos Y Salsas are unbelievably delicious. Throw on a little cilantro and a squeeze of lime (both available, along with eight to ten different salsas, on the help yourself salsa bar), and you won't believe the happiness in your mouth. The taco plate, which comes with three tacos, rice, and beans runs about $8. Given the enormous amount of meat that they manage to squeeze onto every taco, this is really a dynamite price for a downtown lunch. Fortunately I work just a few blocks from Tacos Y Salsas, so I'll be coming back time and again.

This place is nothing fancy but instead a source for some good, cheap, tasty tacos and simple-ish Mexican food. I've been to several of their locations and this one is quite different--Way larger, newer, ahem... cleaner, and they serve alcohol. It's so big, and at least when we went in for lunch, pretty empty, so it's a pretty darned good choice for a group lunch downtown if you work in the area. I especially like their salsa bar, which has five or six great house-made options, from your normal mild taco sauce to a peppy green jalapeno and smoky arbol sauce (yummmm). I had a 4-taco sampler ($7.50 I think) and each taco was pretty good, albeit some a bit greasy and salty. But pretty tasty. I would absolutely go back.

After some light shopping downtown we were looking some easy dinner and I remembered that Taco Y Salsas was downtown and so the decision was made to venture on in. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, murals or the walls, brightly colored chairs and tables. Beautiful place with a warm atmosphere and authentic music playing in the background. I was thinking taco's and then the menu enticed me at every item and I just had to change my mind. I decided on the Chicken plate which included a Chile Relleno, Chicken Enchilada, and a chicken taquito I think served with rice and beans. My friend decided to get the beef fajitas with home made corn tortillas with all the fixings. All our food arrived fast and pretty tasty. The Chile Relleno was crispy and fresh. The chicken in the enchilada seemed a little dry, although the green Chile on top helped a bit with that. It was spicy, not gringo spicy, real Mexican spicy. We definitely enjoyed our food. Service was normal nothing to write home about. I'm averaging a three star on this visit with room for improvement especially when I order the tacos on the next visit.

Awful Mexican. It all tastes like it's out of a can. Queso is yellow velveeta cheese. I hate it.

Great tacos de al pastor, and gorditas de chicharrón. I think it's just as good as its other locations, however, service can be a bit slow at times.

Summary- Avoid. We ran into escape the rain, shoulda gotten wet instead. Food- 1.5 Stars Chips that came to table were mix of stale and semi-fresh. Salsa was OK. Nachos were very meh, nothing bad but definitely not good. Taco's were also meh. There was just nothing to them in terms of spice or flavor. Service- 3 Stars Fine, nice enough. Atmosphere- 1 Star Cheesy theme'd Mexican is the rule here. Value- 3 Stars I guess it's at least cheap.

Straight up Mexico in Downtown Denver! I go for lunch as I work downtown and this location rocks my socks off each time! I LOVE the pork tacos! The server recommended I try them with pineapple today, and it was fan-freaking-tastic! I have had nothing but STELLAR service on a weekday lunch hour. The decor and music are over the top Mexican....just like places actually in Mexico! Plus the staff is cute and sweet and get me seated, served, and presented with the bill within 15 minutes so I can actually enjoy my lunch. This location is great, and I love the vibe. Anyone who thinks it is 'ridiculous' like the many haters below need to check themselves. This place is spot on awesome. You can observe layers of Mexican history from a single 3D scene on a chair back, plus the beach is painted on the wall and they even have an interior/exterior thing going on. It is like this place was plucked right out of Me-hee-co! PS, the tacos are addictive. Don't say I didn't warn you!

The food is good! Everything else is kind of...okay. My first visit was to place a to-go order. Took longer than I expected, considering the number of people in the lobby, but was ok. The second visit was for a to-go order and I felt ignored...the bartender didn't seem interested in doing much except wiping the bar and touching things behind the bar. No hello or anything. Finally a young lady came up an seem shocked I was standing there and looked at the bartender as if to see why he wasn't attentive to this. She quickly took my order and the bartender remained indifferent throughout. My third visit was with my fiancé. We were greeted and promptly sat. Friendly waiter and received our food in a timely manner. HOWEVER, someone was in back playing some sort of fighting video game on a concert sound system. It was as loud as the odd playlist booming overhead. A playlist that went from salsa to Sade to Salena to Mariachi to Boys to Men. All the songs were varying clarity and volume...Im not saying someone illegally downloaded them, I am saying that is how all my music sounded in 2001. My final visit was like a funeral. LONG WAIT to be seated, LONG wait between seeing the waiter/food/bill, and a long time before I go back. The staff was always changing and the food just didn't negate the service. I wish it wasn't so because their hours are great and the decor is fun.

Before my all day shopping binge, my friend and I stopped in for a quick bite and found this place to be quite interesting... 1. The walls are painted as if Mexico just threw up all over you. multicolored chairs, huuuge murals adorn the walls along with traditional music playing! i can see why it can be tad overwhelming, yet entertaining :) 2.The food is pretty darn good. We started off with the bean & cheese dip [soooo gooooddd!], and spit the breakfast plate and enchilada special. there was no shortage of cheese [in fact, tons!] and every bite was delicious! the only downside is you have to pay for refills of your chips and salsa. seems a tad odd for a mexican restaurant. however, get a dip, as extra chips and salsa come on the side :) 3. Despite having a coupon, the prices here are dirt cheap! after our 2 drinks, 2 meals, dip and chips our bill was a whopping $20. with the coupon...$8. hell yes. 4. The staff is a little slow here. I'm not sure if our server was preoccupied or just chatting because the restaurant was almost empty and we saw her only twice. weird. overall, i would stop in for another quite bite with my coupon. otherwise, it's nothing absolutely amazing.

Honestly, I can't really tell you how good everything is here because I was so hungry when I went, I ordered all of this food then dumped it all into one big bowl and ate it over three days. With that said, everything was mixed together. I can say that I don't think I care for their chicken enchiladas. Seems like the chicken was tough. The thing I was most pleased with was discovering they sell Spanish cookies I grew up eating called Polvorones de Canele. yum!!! They get one whole star just for that! The staff was efficient and the place was nicely put together.

My Mexican grandmother from Arizona makes a solid taco - this place makes better tacos! Sorry G'ma...but the truth hurts. Tacos y Salsas is fo sho my fav...and now my mouth is watering... Here's the deal folks: go for tacos and forget everything else. Every time I come here I order too much and can't finish my tacos. Not because they aren't d-lish but because they are so filling! Who would have thought three tacos would do the trick? I prefer to get the seasoned pork tacos cuz they are da bomb. Not too spicy but not bland at all! Soft shell...cuz this ain't Taco Bell. Also excellent are the chicken tacos and the shredded beef (though these can run a little dry so you need to spice them up). Oh what the heck, just try 'em all. The best part is that you can add whatever fixins you want to make a perfectly tailored taco for your enjoyable consumption. There are mild, medium, hot and super hot salsas to chose from. This is in addition to the cilantro, onions, and peppers that can add a bit more flavor or heat. What makes me shudder is Tacos y Salsas almost always has a booth at the street fairs during the summer. Cinco de Mayo (duh), The People's Fair and the Taste of Colorado just got so much more betterer! Before I discovered this was the place that served me those morsels of heaven at the street fairs I was accustomed to waiting for summer to get my fix. Now, I can go every day!

Another of my favorite stops on a weekend Denver tour. Had a bigger group this time, around 7 folks and we had quick and attentive service. Since I couldn't decide on what to order between tacos or a plate, I just told the server to surprise me with his favorite pork dish - he came back with the Al Pastor plate, and it was very, very good. The tortillas were hot and fresh, and the pork was very tender. All around, we had a great meal.

The brightly painted walls and decorative murals made the restaurant warm and welcoming, but the service was awful and the foot was sub-par. I ordered a couple of steak tacos for a light lunch and was appalled by the tough, dry meat. I had to pile on onions and cilantro and drench the plate in lemon juice just to make the food taste decent. To make matters worse, the waitress was very inattentive. There were only a couple of other people in the restaurant, but she never even offered to refill my drink and she took a full ten minutes to deliver the bill after I had to flag her down and ask her for it. Not worth it.

Wife and I were going to a concert down town and we wanted to stop at Biker Jim's but a Rockies game was on, so we couldn't get near the place. We went to our hotel and headed to 16th street to find some food. We found a guy with a sign saying Taco's that way. And I ALWAYS trust a guy with a sign telling me where to get taco's!! (OK, I don't really, but WTH you only live once). We were seated quickly, as they weren't real busy. I got a beer, and the wife got a margarita. She order crispy reno's, and I order something el pastor (can't remember exactly what it was on the menu - but pork with jalapeno's pineapple and onions). WOW! Was mine spicy! I loved it! I honestly did not expect to find something that spicy on a menu. My wife is a real picky reno person, and again she really loved her's. The chips and salsa were... ehhh ok, but really that's not why I go to a Mexican restaurant. The service was good, a tad slow, but if I could take 1/2 star off for both of those I would, but I won't take a full star off. To Ben - Sorry to disagree, I not only grew up in So Cal, but I also spent a lot of time down in Imperial County (Family from there), and several trips to Mexico. I know what good Mexican food is, and this place has it. At least they did on this visit. Price was cheap for everything we got - we got out of there with drinks and tip (15-20%) in the $25 range. Life lesson - When a guy with a food sign points you to taco's, go get the taco's!

Still only A-OK after an actual sit down and dine for lunch visit. Since it is in their name, it's no wonder that the star attraction here is the Tacos y Salsas. I had a "build your own combo" with 2 Tacos Al Pastor and a Crispy Chile Relleno, side of rice and beans. Grabbed a couple of salsas and some pico from the salsa bar. The tacos were great, especially topped with one of the medium red salsas. The relleno was actually "Meh". Hardly crispy, and this was fresh from the kitchen. Beans were good, rice just average. The free basket of chips and salsa was about half full of chips. Compared to the heaping baskets of chips I saw being delivered to other tables it made me wonder if someone had been eating out of ours already. Come for the tacos y salsas. Stay away from the rellenos. Everything else you'll just have to see for yourself.

I've been here a few times in the past. A bit divey, but great Mexican street food for the most part. Great tacos. All in all, a good experience today, but the guacamole was WAY under par. I will not be ordering the guac again. I'll definitely be returning though.

I'm just going to get right to it- I ordered the enchiladas. Just normal, cheese enchiladas, and the sauce that came out on these was WAY too hot. There was no warning on the menu, and I was expecting a spicy but palatable enchilada sauce. My partner LOVES NM red chili- the hotter the better, and she adds sriracha all the time, but she couldn't even eat any of mine due to the heat. I don't eat any of that, so you can imagine how I struggled through my meal. My only other complaint would be the cleanliness of this joint. It seemed a little lackluster in that department.

stumbled into here after leaving Laura's farewell gala at hyatt regency ...was parked right across the street . bowling because I hadn't seen a taco y salsas anywhere around the LoDo.area before.Ordered a smothered chicken burrito which was all of $5...got my order in 10 minutes ...let you know how it was later. place is extremely colorful, with about a 6 table secluded dining area upstairs and a brightly colored forested mountain mural painted on the south wall. edit: bumping from 3 to 4 stars. for $5, that's a massive freakin burrito, with tastiness infused all over the innards and the out-tards. decent green chile. good place to go post-drinky-time. warning: I checked my meter (3 mins left) before I went in, and was there maybe 15 mins total. come back? $25 ticket wedged in the door crack of the car. It was almost like "they" were lurking out there. Vultures...beware of that, dump in extra loot if you have to.

This place should have more stars. Great customer service despite having a small staff. The server is also the host and bartender. Then a female server and a cook. 3 flarscreen TVs. Full bar. Plush seating. The salsa is spicy with the chips. Ordered the carne asada plate. Lots of steak for 6.95 the steak was moist and thin. The onions and tomatoes were fresh. The rice and beans perfectly done. No complaints. Definitely recommend to all.they have food specials too.

Went in here with my girlfriend and waited ~5 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant. OK, no big deal. Then we waited another ~5 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink. Again, no big deal. Then a basket full of the nastiest chips I've ever seen at a Mexican restaurant were presented to me... and then that was it, for 20 minutes. We waited for our waitress to come by and ask us what we wanted to order, but we never saw here again until we decided to pay for the (nasty, tasted like it came from a flat 2 liter bottle) Diet Coke I ordered and left. Again, the restaurant MAY have had 3-4 customers in it. Tick tock, tick tock, can't wait for this place to go out of business and have it replaced by someone who actually wants to see their business earn money.

This place wasn't bad, just average. See, the problem is I'm from Southern Cali, therefore I hold a pretty high bar when it comes to Mexican food. This is the type of place I will go to strictly when I am too hung over or lazy to get in my car and drive somewhere. If you're a tourist or a transplant off the light rail have at it. I'll pass.

Tacos y Salsas is A-OK in my book. I've been there twice now and thought it was good. Today, I had three tacos (which was much too much for me, actually). I had a barbacoa, a ground beef and a steak taco on the recommendation of the server. She was right. that steak taco was awesome! The beef was a little overcooked (ok, a lot, some of it was like beef jerkey), but the flavor was wonderful. The barbacoa was good, but oily. The ground beef was bad. Overly salty. Since the place is called Tacos y Salsas, I tried the tacos y salsas. I had the pico, which was excellent, a green mild salsa, which was very good, and a spicy, milky-pink salsa which was HOT. Keep in mind that this is a sit-down-and-order restaurant, not like their order-at-the-counter location in Aurora. All in all, I like Tacos y Salsas.

Authentic tacos, I am a fan. My only complaint would be that the food is somewhat inconsistent. Overall all though, I would recommend this place, a definite lunch time must.

This ridiculously but joyfully colored restaurant just make you smile. Silly fun art work adorns, well, everything! I ordered a machaca (shredded) taco plate and it was the best meat I have had on a taco. The cheesy beans were excellent, the rice, just OK.. and while the service was slow due to a major influx of customers, the floor manager was hustling HARD, taking care of customers. (In stark contrast to my earlier in the evening experience at Coyote Ugly) And so while the kitchen was slow, it was surely worth the wait. I will definitely be back!

I really, really wanted to like this and give this place at least a 3 star rating... But we had to wait a few minutes for the hostess to both notice and seat us. Despite this, and the garish interior, I still wanted to like it. The chips we were given were coated with an MSG-tasting dusting of some red powder, and after many more than 20 minutes of waiting to order, and asking a couple times if we could order, we just decided to pay for the coke we got and head out. It wasn't that busy, and it's weird to feel that strangely ignored. Needless to say, Taste of India a couple streets down on Champa wasn't fantastic, but certainly much better than this place. Wish I could have tried the food.

Tacos Y Salsas has decent food...but the service is slower then molasses. I know they need to work out opening kinks, but its been almost a month and the service was slow both times I went here. The food is good. I only order Chicken Tacos from a Mexican restaurant, so there is not much a restaurant can do to screw up Chicken tacos. They are a staple, so not much to review there. I will say this, this place is much cheaper then Chiptole for a larger quantity of food. That alone gives it a 3 stars. All in all, pretty good food, but really bad service.

With two other people I went here and all of us ordered different things. My friend got this dish where the meat was overcooked and hard as a rock. My other friend and I had dishes that looked pretty much the same. And it tasted like mediocre.. I don't know maybe I am just being suspicious about the whole dish being drowned in melted cheese. Usually you can't do much wrong when there's melted cheese right? One star for the ridiculous interior. I felt like I was at some play place for a fast food restaurant. For that, its a fun place to look around.

I've been a semi-regular customer here since it is (typically) decent, fairly authentic Mexican food. Typically I'd probably rate it 3 stars, nothing special at all but good enough when I need a fix of carne asada or al pastor tacos. However, after my experience today I won't be back. It started with a glass of pineapple juice that didn't taste right, like it had spoiled. Then when I went to the salsa bar, the cilantro was extremely wilted. When I got my tacos, the tortillas were stale, and the meat was overcooked and dry. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, just decent, and it wasn't even close.

What I had? 2 Tacos (Al Pastor and Adobada), a Gordita (with Asada) and Tostada (with molida) Food review: Oh my goodness... this place just got 10 times better. The tacos are really good but the gorditas are where it's at. Growing up on pretty much taco bell for "mexican" food, I never knew what true gorditas were until now. It's not the flat bread non-sense at Taco Bell but something way more tastier. Can't really describe what it was but if I were to take a rough stab at it, the "shell" was more of a soft corn shell. It's more "encapsulated" than your regular taco. The tacos were still solid but I will probably stick with gorditas next time around. The tostada was a little different as well with shell seeming more fried which also made it quite tasty. Might do 2 gorditas with a tostada next time around. Crazy good! Service? No complaints Other thoughts: I'm excited to have a Mexican place to be excited about it again. The others I've been to since Juan's have been just plain meh.

The absolute worst Mexican food I've ever had. A couple of my friends couldn't even eat their food. The service was absolutely horrible. You couldn't PAY me to ever go there again. If it was possible to give negative stars I would.

DO NOT waste your time ordering a torta from here. It will simply be one taco's worth of a taco meat, lettuce and smattering of Sysco-quality guacamole on a stale bolillo. No beans, no tomatoes, no mayo, no chipotle or jalapenos, nothing but those three ingredients, all for $7. What a major disappointment!

Always saw the guy holding the sign which should have warned me! If you have to pay someone to advertise with a big sign outside Ross it must not be good! But a few co workers and I gave it a try and all 4 agreed we would not return. Service was not good. Food was very bland. Salsa's were not tasty :( I ordered the 3 tacos and there was nothing authentic about those tacos. :( If you want good or even okay Mexican food this is NOT your place.

A co-worker told me about this joint because I've been craving hard shell tacos! Well it appears I will continue my search for a good taco spot. Chips and taco shell were stale. The chicken was suspect at best and and the ground meat was super greasy. Guacamole was eh so so!

The worst service I have encountered in a long time. I was treated so bad I thought I had entered a time portal that transferred me back to a lunch counter in Mississippi during the 60s. The wait staff tried to ignore my sister and I until a couple BEHIND us pointed out we were there first. They then decided to sit us in the corner and wait on everyone that was behind us anyway. I will never go there EVER again. I never tasted the food after the Ku klux klan treatment I walked out.

Yikes, where to begin?? Tried it for the first time today (5/13/11) for lunch. Place was full so that looked promising. Problem #1: it was during the lunch hour on a work day in downtown Denver - & they had only two (2) servers. Long wait for everything! Problem #2: the food. I ordered combination #4 (tres enchiladas pollo) Managed to choke down one (1). Several people in my group tried it as well & almost gagged. I will NEVER return & will NEVER recommend this location.

Finally a food place open on the weekends until 3am! Went there last night and had some amazing tacos (the asada was our favorite), decent guac, and tasty margaritas. The people working were friendly and the service was good. So happy to have a delicious late night food place downtown-hopefully more will come up!

just awful. all inedible. Taco meat was dry and tasted like it was weeks old (I had 1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 pork). I also had the chili rellenos, if you could call them that, the dough had so many layers it was crispy on the outside, raw on the inside and the filling was almost nonexistent. unacceptable. avoid

I was looking for something quick and not expensive near my hotel after a long travel day. Stopped in here, just off the 16th street mall. It filled my need. I had the #5 combo which was fine, not great. The best thing was the salsa for the chips and salsa. Nice heat and good flavor. I would come back to try some of the tacos - if I had checked Yelp first thats what I would have had! Price was fine.

Downtown has been in need of some good Mexican, so hopefully this place will make it. We tried it out for dinner after a friends recommendation.. and were pleasantly surprised with the food. The service wasn't to great, but not for lack of trying I think it might have been our waiters first night. I'm not sure the place can handle large groups yet as it wasn't to busy just a few tables of 2 and then one large group of about 10. The large group looked like they had been there a while when we got there and they were just starting to get their food when we left. Service aside, the food we got was great. I ordered the Carne Asada and the meat was excellent. Some places seem to think that if you drown every plate in green chili then no one will notice how bland it all is.. it doesn't look like this is there strategy. Also as an added bonus they're one of the less expensive places to eat downtown.

I gave this place 2 starts mostly for the customer service and experience not the food. I must say D'corazon is my favorite Mexican and I was very hesitant in going here. My co worker who loves D'Corazon decided to venture out after hesitation as well and said they were fast and the food was pretty comparable which I had a hard time believing. I went in before a concert with a friend. we got seated quickly but then waited between 5-10 minutes just for a drink which then took about 5 minutes to get (and we ordered water) Once the water came out we ordered a margarita. The waitress apologized for the delay in water and gave us a double shot margarita (one shot on the house). We through that was awesome and they realized their mistake and they made it up to us. We got to talking and time flew when we realized we had not placed our order yet. about 30 minutes after our drink we ordered our food. We still had time but we needed to get things moving along which should have been no problem considering it was Mexican food. We ordered a fajita burrito, two guac tostadas, and a chile Rellano. We were gonna split it all and share. the waitress brought us chips but they tasted like chips from a bag. The salsa was good but the chips ruined it. We got to chatting again and then looked at the clock and realized we had 30 minutes until we had to be to the concert. ahhhhhhh. we still did not have food and we had been seated 1 hour and about 20 minutes ago. we freaked out a bit. we had not realized so much time had passed. we flagged down the waitress and she said she would check on the food. she came back and said it would be done shortly. i explained to her our situation and that we needed to leave in 15 minutes. the food came out in about 5 minutes. they forgot one of our pieces of food so we had to flag her down again and at this time we asked for the check. we had not even taken a bite of food at this time but yes we asked for the check. knowing we did not want to box food up and carry it in a concert we attempted to scarf the food down. The portions size was great (much bigger that we expected) and the flavor was nice and spicy, just how we like it. the only problem was we had about 10 minutes to scarf a ton of food that was burning our mouths. from what i could taste it was good but i didn't really get to enjoy it. we paid our bill (wish I had time to argue it) but we didn't want to be late and then we flew out the door and ran a few blocks to the Wells Fargo theater. good food, horrible service. the food would take me back, only when D'Corazon is closed. Dont expect to get out of the place in a hurry. and i guess i forgot to mention there was only two other tables with people at them so being busy was not an excuse.

Wow this place pretty much sucks. Ordered the four tacos, one of which seriously was almost empty. The meat was suspect and the tacos came with just suspect meat and cheese. Nothing else. Maybe it's a colorado thing. In Nevada we are spoiled with good Mexican food.

Been here three different times for a single person carry out, usually just before or past lunch rush. The first time I sat for seven minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. A girl with spidery long finger nails took my order. I hoped they were super-glued on well if she was the one handling my lunch. The chili relleno was undercooked, as there was uncooked dough in the pepper. I usually like dough but not what should have been my crispy relleno. I thought, well, they're new at this (Stout St) location I'll give them another chance. A couple of months later I went back. Same *cool* service. This time the beans were undercooked, the relleno was fabulous and crispy- meaning that doughy taste I got the first time was exactly that- uncooked dough. That's a basic cooking faux pas, let alone for a restaurant. Today I went in at 1:00 pm. It was dead in the restaurant. I sat for about 5+ minutes until the door bell dinged and customers came in behind me. I was standing at the podium looking up at the help approaching me - or so I thought. Without any acknowledgment (nary a single word) she gave a friendly "hello" to the other customers who came in behind me and proceeded to seat them. I have no idea how the uncooked food was today as I left and gave my money to another restaurant. Gist: Undercooked food and a wait staff that has no basic customer service skills. I can see why they were empty. They won't last long here. July 9,2012 update: I ate in for once at the noon hour. The waiter/bartender/host was friendly and the food came out quick. I had the Al Pastor pork dish, it was very tender and flavorful. Everything was tasty except for the beans, they were blander than plain beans, the homemade corn tortillas were super yummy. The dish (as is the restaurant) inexpensively priced. I raised the stars from one to two based upon this experience and will probably go back again just to see if they improve some more.

I came in craving tacos, got distracted by other yummy sounding things on the menu, changed my mind back to tacos and was glad I did! I ordered three and could barely finish two because they were so huge. Less street taco/double mini corn tortilla style but instead just bigger corn tortillas not doubled up and with a ton of meat piled on each. I'd say twice the size of most street tacos. They took up an entire platter on their own with no sides. And they're only $1.75 each! I tried the carne asada, pollo and al pastor and definitely loved the al pastor the most. The carne asada was a little drippy and messy and my least favorite. The pollo was good but not super flavorful. Tender chicken though. The best part was the salsa bar with a huge variety and plenty of lime wedges and cilantro to go along with the delicious and spicy red and green salsas. However I'm dying to go back to sample things of their menu - you can try a bunch of things a la carte for well under $2 each like a chile relleno, tamale, three varieties of enchiladas...all of which I wanted to order for a Mexican smorgasborg. Next time! Fast service and the tables filled up pretty quickly at lunch. Great iced tea. Super inexpensive.

We were walking along 16th St (the pedestrian mall in downtown Denver), hungry for lunch, and saw a guy waving a large sign pointing to Tacos & Salsas. Sounded good, so we walked a block to this location. The chairs and tables were brightly painted, a flat-screen TV on one wall was showing a soccer game, and we were seated immediately. Water and a basket of chips + salsa came soon after. (delicious salsa). My dining companion ordered 3 tacos, I ordered one as well (the pulled pork) plus the chili relleno. They were all quickly served and absolutely delicious. What a nice find, especially since the bill came to just under $12---for two people! Highly recommended for quick, delicious food, slightly off the beaten path.

Ugh, this place used to be Juan's and now goes by another name and it's AWFUL! The service was very slow and surly,we had to ask for drink refills, my food was barely warm and very bland. Wasn't that busy, but the girls were more interested in chatting to each other in the back than taking care of customers. My friend found a long black hair in her food (inside of a rolled enchilada)!! They replaced the plate but didn't deduct anything from our bill at all. When my friend asked about it the response after 10 minute of consultations in Spanish was to deduct $1.89 (presumably the price of one enchilada with the hair in it.) When she questioned again, the response was "well you ate the other plate of food." SERIOUSLY??!! (She didn't, she barely picked at the second plate after that appetizing experience.) Avoid this place at all costs, plenty of other good Mexican places who want the business. Never setting foot in this one again. Bleck.

I had tacos in the wee hours of the evening on Saturday to put this all in context. The atmosphere was kitschy but nice, excellent salsa bar, nice looking liquor bar. Food was average run of the mill Demver street taco, served slightly below temperature. The service started out ok but finished disappointingly when the waiter never returned with change and subsequently never returned with my water refill. Kitchen gets *** Service gets *

This place is cute. Yes, very colorful and festive. The chips are good - not oily or salty. The salsa is pretty good and there's a salsa bar for variation. We had the tacos based on the other recommendations. I had the steak, the chicken and the pork. I liked the steak the best but was surprised when it came with just the meat and the shell. I expected sauces, or mix ins.... But I guess that's what the salsa bar is for. The meat could use a tad more flavor. All in all, pretty great value for the price - especially downtown.

I see a lot of bad reviews, I hear a lot of complaints, but let's be honest here: Tacos y Salsas is not a place to go to if you're looking for a great dining experience. I've heard people complain about nasty chicken, hairs in their food, long waits, etc. These things would bother me if this was, you know, a reputable sit-down restaurant. It's not, though. It's basically a taco stand with walls that tries to cater to downtown corporate lunch crowds when it's mainly best at serving street food (tacos, gorditas, etc.). I don't recommend chicken burritos, I don't recommend combo platters, I recommend TACOS. You get a big ol' pile of meat on a fresh tortilla, maybe with some lettuce. The salsa bar leaves the rest of it up to you. I've eaten at this location and the Kentucky/Federal location, both seem to offer the same quality of food. I've not once been so disappointed that I wouldn't go back, and I've more often than not been surprised by the flavor and quantity of my food for the price paid. I love this place, I don't care how greasy it is or how long it takes to get tacos. It's the perfect place for a carnivorous, spicy lunch, and it's cheaper than anything I can think of downtown. Cheaper than a food cart (or "food truck" for that matter). Cheaper than typical fast food. No pretense. Just tacos. And other stuff I can't be bothered with ordering. Oh, and the gorditas are really good too if you don't mind the grease. That said, I understand that picky eaters and people who are obsessed with order and cleanliness might be turned off from this place. Simply put, it's not for you. If you're even semi-adventurous, not afraid of a little dirt and grime (not that the place is grimy, it's actually quite clean), and love tacos, give the tacos a try. I enjoy the asada and carnitas quite a bit, and the salsa selection is expanding (they now have roasted jalapenos and a couple additional kinds of salsa). Judge for yourself, it's cheap enough to try for yourself instead of just relying on negative Yelp reviews. If you really think the taco you order is horrifically disgusting, then throw it away. $1.75 plus tax spent on discovering that it's not the right place for you. If you truly enjoy a good taco, however, I don't expect that to happen here. btw, half star would've been perfect here. 3 stars doesn't say enough, 4 almost says too much. I'm sticking with 4, but would call it a 3.5, realistically.

I live right by this place but had never tried it because it always looks empty, which I assumed meant it was no good. But a friend convinced me to go and I'm so glad I did! I got the carnitas, very reasonably priced and they didn't go skimpy on it. The service was not the greatest but they weren't busy so it was no problem to wave down our waiter. Would definitely recommend.

Okay, after a few weeks I decided to revisit the Stout location on 3/1/2012. I was a bit cynical walking to the restaurant at Noon, but when we walked through the door the place was busy. I don't mean 4 tables full, I'm talking about hustling waitstaff and a full house. We were seated immediately, water and chips delivered stat and our order taken on the spot. Our food arrived in less than 5 minutes. For a moment I thought I was at the wrong eatery. The green chile on my burrito wasn't as spicy as before, but the food was piping hot. Round trip from the office was 45 minutes. I commend the staff for making the necessary changes to drastically improve customer service.

I don't often Yelp, but after eating the lunch I just ate here, I couldn't help myself, I need to warn others!!!!! This was not the worst Mexican Food I've ever eaten....it was by far the worst food I've ever eaten, period! I'm not sure what their definition of 'Chicken' is, but whatever they gave me that was called chicken, well that definitely was not chicken. The smell alone made me want to lose my appetitie. I'm not sure why other reviews on here are so positive, maybe it's because they like eating crap, but this was down-right awful. The chicken was probably poached, then grilled, and they didn't like that either, so then it was fried, and since that didn't work either, they just went ahead and mashed it, yum huh? They weren't that busy, based on the reviews I read I was really psyched to try this place, so not being busy was a plus. We got seated quickly, and chips and salsa were brought very fast. I should have just ordered another free chips and salsa and then left, my mistake. It took about 5 minutes to get our order, which is fine, but the 40 minutes that followed while we waited for our chicken to be poached, grilled, fried, and mashed, well that was just a little longer than I had hoped. I actually tried to stay positive and think "well the food is probably reallly good!", again my mistake. Yeah, it's definitely cheap, but so is free water, and would've been a better lunch. I can't beleive I haven't thrown up yet, but writing this is getting me in the mood to purge this garbage out of my system. Tacos y Salsas? Nah, more like Tacos y Vomit.

Stopped at tacos y salsas while shopping on 16th street downtown. Thinking mexican food is pretty much hard to do badly, my wife and I thought we couldnt go wrong here. When we walked in the door we stood next to the host waiting for him to finish up a text message before we were seated. We were greeted promptly with a small basket of chips and salsa and asked what we would like to drink. The salsa was tasty and the chips were ok. We didnt have any napkins or silverware and were soon greeted by a new waitress. We ordered our usual favorites, tacos and enchiladas and waited patiently. Our food was ready in a fair amount of time but we still had no silverware and had to wait for the waitress to find some. This is were things went very sour. The enchiladas were flat and completely drenched in a very bland red sauce and had a light layer of flavorless cheese. The tacos and enchiladas both tasted very bland and ridiculously salty, probably to give some illusion of flavor. We are not food critics by any means, and have had mexican food at quite a few resteraunts, some better than others, but have never had food as unappetizing as at this location. This place charges for a refill of nachos. I hate places that charge for a refill of nachos. And. . . . I suspect they purposely don't give you a lot of nachos because they want to charge you for more. Again, I hate this nickel-and-dime nonsense.

Have given this joint a few shots and came to the conclusion that all the "new chances" amounted to disappointment - The latest visit showed that ordering the Fajitas plate (one of the higher priced menu items) came with 6 very small pieces of chicken that I had to fish through the semi warm peppers - not receiving a sizzling plate should have been an indicator of what I was getting (or not getting) - When I pointed this out to my waitress she did get me a side dish of chicken but the overall consistency (luke warm and a tough and dry exterior) said that this was not fresh - Really disappointing. I can't even attribute this to being busy as there were two other couples in there - A Mexican restaurant that can't get fajitas right... I don't know what to say... still baffled The service was very good but with Lagunas, Diegos, and even Chipotle all within a block I would expect them to be a little more on top of their game - On a positive note, the salsa is really good Heard really good things about the other locations so maybe it's just a matter of time until they get their groove and start serving quality food - The two stars I gave were for the service and salsa... sorry to say

If you want authentic Mexican food and good service don't go here. I have been there twice. First I ordered a crispy chile relleno. It was not crisp, and was barely cooked judging by how fast my plate came to me after it was ordered. When I cut into it, grease oozed out. It was horrid. The chips were stale and the salsas were unremarkable. My boyfriend can make better salsa and he's half gringo. This second time I visited, I ordered the breaded fish. Again, I got it a bit fast, so it was not cooked fresh. I pointed out to the waitress that the fish wasn't breaded. "That's how it comes", she said. "Yes, but on the menu it says it is breaded." She seemed unconcerned. I also told her it looked dry (it could not have been cooked fresh and been so dry based on the speed the dish came out. This time I put the spoon in the bottom of some of the salsas to find some thicker stuff at the bottom...making me think old salsa was sitting there and new salsa was poured over it . Again with stale chips. I have had better fish from a roach coach and will NEVER recommend this place nor return. There are too many top Mexican joints to try to waste any money and time on this one. Terrible food, terrible service.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
