About Taco Bell
Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.
The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.
Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

A solid place for tacos. Been here several times and I've loved the food every time. Don't ask for a ground beef taco here, that's not authentic Mexican food. Instead, you can try some of my personal favorites: asada or al pastor! They have hand made tortillas and the sauces aren't watered down like other places. This is an authentic place so don't expect Taco Bell type food here. The price is great for the amount of food you get and the atmosphere is great too. Tacos are always a good choice, and the gorditas are delicious too. Service can sometimes be slow as they cook the meat as you order, so munch on the chips while you wait and venture to try all the sauces they have!

The food was awesome!!! They deffinatly have that part down! The smothered burritos were big enough so I wasn't able to finish them. The mojarras are definatly a bang for your buck! The shrimp coctail was very delicious also! The only thing I can think of is more space especially on weekend nights when everyone is going out. I seen a lot of customers waiting to be seated. Or had to wait for a seat. Customer service was friendly but they take there time greeting u, bringing u a menu taking ur order and bringin your drinks.

This was stop 4 on today's taco tour, and it had my favorite flavors in regard to the carnitas and Al Pastor specifically. The meat was very flavorful and moist, and also had that nice crunch from the sear. The decor was very authentic and colorful, and everything was clean. I also had the house margarita, which was perfect in my opinion, being not too sweet and not too sour, but right in the middle.
(4)Don P.
solid tacos!!! at a good price
(4)Deya Z.
Sooo good. We were a little hesitant to stop only because we've been burned by Mesican food in Denver in the past. But once we got inside, we knew this place was legit! I ordered the tripitas and chicharron tacos, and hubs had the 3 taco plate (Barbacoa and al pastor). The salsa bar is good, but the limes were a little past their expiration date. The roasted serranos reminded me of home. Any way, the tacos were fantastic!! Tortillas are clearly made by hand and oh so good. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.
(4)Thaddius B.
This place is a hidden gem. Good inexpensive Mexican food with a salsa bar featuring many different salsas and flavors. I loved all the choices, but prepare for the burn as everyone I tried was pretty hot. The building is past its prime but don't let that scare you this place is pretty darn good and for 6 or 7 dollars get a meal you probably can't finish.
(4)NicKole A.
Amazing! Way better than the one on 15st in Downtown Denver!! Keep up the good work! Thank you Tacos & salsa
(5)Kimberly M.
My favorite place to get tacos in the Denver area! You should know: the times currently listed on Yelp are incorrect. It's more like: Sun-Thu: 8AM-12AM Fri-Sat: 8AM- 3AM Now back to the food! These tacos are really tasty and they have a salsa bar with lots of different options so you can spice up your food. Friendly service too. It helps when ordering if you speak a bit of Spanish.
(5)Kathleen D.
Absolutely delicious, perfect, amazing, classic tacos. Best mexican in Denver, honestly.
(5)Kristen W.
Fried Serrano peppers are wonderful!! I love all the salsa choices and delicious flavors. The taco assortment we tried was delicious. I thought the adovada was fantastic and the al pastor was pretty yummy but not quite on par with Taco Junior's al pastor. My biggest complaint was the refried beans. They were a bit dry and uninspired and I just love great refrieds so that cost them one star despite their superior salsa bar. I will definitely be back and if was a fluke the beans were tired I will update. Otherwise, stick to the adovada tacos!
(4)Teema C.
Good, quick mexican food with a ton of salsas to make each bite a different flavor. Very festive restaurant and not very expensive. Would go back.
(4)Jeff S.
Sometimes a man just needs a basic hole-in-the-wall burrito fix. This place comes through. They give you a bowl of chips and point you to the salsa bar with almost a dozen different kinds, all are very good. The barbacoa burrito was great. The beef was very tender and the green chili was flavorful and spicy. The menu is in Spanish, the place is decorated like a true Mexican joint, and it's very spacious. I'm sorry it took me so long to get here.
(3)Albert T.
One star is overrated!! what a horrible place, ordered tacos of tripas and the taste is so bad! don't waste your money here! Look at the picture of the tacos! WTF is that?????? lumps of fried grease!!!
(1)Betty S.
I usually try a place a few times before I write a review. But my experience tonight merits an instant response. I was headed to my regular burrito joint and noticed Tacos y Salsas so I decided to give it a try. I ordered an al pastor burrito and a horchata. The place was empty but it took 20 minutes for my food to get to me. I'm a huge al pastor fan so I was looking forward to a good burrito. What a salty disaster! Just salt on top of salt. i can still taste the salt an hour later. The Horchata was good enough but I don't pick my burrito places based on the drinks. Disappointing.
(2)P H.
We went that a few times, but stopped. Service is bad and they do an auto gratuity, on big parties wheter the service is good or not. They take the same salsa and reuse it. Not a good place! I heard this from a server that use to work there. I prefer authentic Mexican food. With sanitary practices
(2)Katie T.
So far this is my favorite Mexican food in my new neighborhood. I have ordered: carne asada tacos, chicken tacos, carnitas burrito and a chicken tostada and they were all pretty good! I like that you can get your own fixing: 6 different types of salsa, cut limes, fresh chopped onions and more at the salsa bar. They make their corn tortillas fresh and I can't wait to try them after watching a woman pull out the dough and cook them right in front of me. The rice and beans are a-ok. The price is right and the service is friendly!
(4)Marcus C.
I'll never be a Mexican, but eating at Tacos Y Salsas makes me feel pretty close. If you're looking for cheap, authentic Mexican food that will change your life - this is the place. Lots of homemade salsas to choose from (surprise!), but it's definitely not just tacos y salsas at Tacos Y Salsas.
(5)John M.
Love this place, back again with my mentee. He ALWAYS orders the torta asada. The salsa bar is an adventure, fresh oregano, radishes (los rabanitos) and an assortment of salsas from mild to scalding, colorful, always full and well attended to, with the replenishment of the contents of the bar. All in all I really like this place, pay at the counter, tip can right by the register, but mainly because of the locals, las familias.
(4)Aimee L.
I've ended up here several times, and each time I wonder why I've come back. The decor is very colorful and interesting, the music is lively, and there's a constant flow of people. This place is doing something right to keep people coming back... I just don't know what that is yet. I've tried burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. The chicken and carnitas options are boring and bland, like they were boiled for long periods of time. The amount of meat in each entree is generous, though. I didn't realize when I got takeout once that the tacos were just filled with meat. So definitely don't miss the salsa bar unless you only want your tacos to be just tortillas and meat. The smothered burrito is just ok, and the quesadillas are meh (even though I think I've ordered them every time I've been here). I think there's too much butter and very little cheese in the quesadillas, though the guacamole it comes with makes them decent. The salsa bar has a good amount of variety, though the pico de gallo and similar offerings lack a super fresh and vibrant flavor. The speed of service varies depending on how busy they are. The server/cashier is not terribly friendly, but it doesn't really matter at this sort of self-service establishment. It's usually not too bad, but at times they could use more staff. Parking is easy in the designated lot or on the side street. This place is overall OK, but there are definitely better places out there.
(2)john s.
I've been putting off this review as each trip to this place offers new delights and letdowns. 1st trip, the server was rude but the al pastor was good. Not Baja Norte good, but just good. al pastor style is the meat fresh cut off the vertical rotisserie and this is cubed and marinated. Still tasty but NOT real al pastor. 2nd trip, server was great. Smothered burrito was ok. kinda small compared to others. Last few trips, servings (quantity) varied from "!!Shiiiit!!, I can't eat all that!!" To "Wheres the BEEF!!?? Best bet re tacos? Order one (1) and see what kinda mood the cooker is in and go from there. Overall?? Bitch server from 1st visit not there anymore!! YEAH!! Salsa bar is good (no sneeze guard) and salsa's are awesome. Good mix between authentic and americanized. But where are the REAL al pastor tacos?? Bueller?... Bueller?... Bueller? Anyone??
(3)Brandy B.
Love this place. Don't know what's better here. The chicken tacos or the salsa bar! The employees can be less than expected at a restaurant, but that's alright with me since I can help myself to the salsa bar!
(5)Gretchen G.
Flavor was good but disappointed at how much gristle was in the steak tacos and how mushy the rice was.
(3)Carolyn P.
As a purveyor of street tacos in Denver, I was disappointed in this place after all the good things I had heard. The tortillas tasted stale, the salsas had clearly seen better hours (or days?), and the flavors were bland compared to many other spots within 1/4 mile. The one saving grace? Cheap Mexican beer in bottles: Negro Modelo, Victoria, Sol, Carta Blanca, etc. Save your time and money on this place and stroll down to one of Federal's far better taco spots!
(2)Kelsey W.
Great place tucked away on a quiet city street. Have been on the hunt for a great gordita ever since a trip to Mexico 5 or 6 years ago, and this place nailed it. Very cheap, nice big portions, and great authentic decoration and food. Loved it!
(4)Lisa K.
This place is good, but maybe not great. I have only tried the burritos and tacos on two different visits. I am a huge fan of Al Pastor and I have to say theres falls short. Not shaved off the spit and no pineapple that I could find. But, carne asada and barbacoa were delicious. They do make homemade corn tortillas for the tacos and this is a big +. However, they do NOT make the tortillas for the burritos, just an average out of the package flour tortilla. The salsas are great, although the salsa bar is usually a bit messy. But, probably an impossible task to keep clean with people helping themselves. They do have beer and margs... more ++++ But, on both occasions the woman taking orders seemed less than thrilled to be there. Overall this place is good and we will go back.
(3)Jenna C.
Great food, great service, good special plate prices. The tamales and tacos adobadas are especially wonderful!
(4)Bryan R.
Most amazing tacos ever. Try the gordita with adobada. You won't regret it. The price is really cheap especially for the ever increasing prices downtown. Can't ask for much more. Went there three times my trip.
(5)Rich M.
This place is the real deal I wish the chain version on the 16th st mall was half as good.
(5)Jessica L.
my go to Mexican place when Im down in the city. Very good!
(5)Martha H.
This place is horrible! The quesadillas have tons of grease not exactly how you cook Mexican food. Next day my stomach was bad I was throwing up everything I had the night before! don't stop by here!!
(1)Garrett D.
Great authentic Mexican food. Not your traditional tex-mex. The food is great and there are lots of options on the menu.
(5)Shane L.
Found a hair in my taco and they didn't give a shit about it. I would give them zero stars if I could. Food was disgusting. Don't waste your money.
(1)Melisa A.
I love the Salsa's and taco's carnitas and asada.
(4)Melissa R.
The workers here are always so nice and the food is always amazing! You can also take it to go and have a beer while you wait :)
(5)Ananda T.
They do not have anything vegetarian besides rice and cheese quesadillas. I wish they had some type of beans without lard.

Went for Dinner with Hubs on Friday December 9th 2011. Time : 19:15hrs. Hubs was slightly hesitant to eat MEXICAN that week I guess he just has no mood for it. Well the worst nightmare came. We found the seats near to the counter where I can see all the "actions". This time around, I think they move the "condiment" cart next to where we were seated. Yes this establishment was busy at that hour but NOT as busy as compared to my last visit with other fellow Yelpers. This time around, I just feel like eating FISH & CHIPs offered at this establishment. YOU say what?? Fish & Chips order from a MEXICAN restaurant, my inner tummy grumbled... Other than that, I also opt for one Lengua and one Tripa tacos. Hubs ordered the Smothered Burrito and 3 Carne Asada Tacos. Time :19:58hrs. We were appalled when our food was left to seat at the counter, COLD. When 2 of the servers were idling their way, not making sure all the patrons have their orders covered. They were not doing anything that evening to speed up the service what so ever. Perhaps we went on a wrong day and the wrong time slot. Even the MAN behind the counter, make small talks with his fellow men and dont have the initiative to send our food to us... So both Hubs and I, turned to 2 sad kitten campers when we finished our food. Hubs does not like his food to be cold at all cost. The food he ordered was just "MEH" as what he told me at the end of the evening. Even my tacos were cold and same goes to the Fish and Chips. I told Hubs, we need to go to the counter to pay. Hubs was slightly upset with this incident. He told me, if I would not have told him to pay at the counter, we would be the ones seating for a long time for someone to inform us etc etc.. When we were at the cashier, and pay for our meals, even with the receipts, they overcharged us and took the wrong order which was stated in the receipts. Oh well, Tacos Y Salsas # 3, you broke my heart and shattered them into pieces, hence for this review is 2 Generous STARS for you. @1/2012
(2)Emily C.
My tacos were alright. The salsa bar was a nice addition, and I definitely stocked up, but overall, especially for what else you can find in this neighborhood, I was underwhelmed. The service was waaay too slow for the size of the place, number of employees seemingly just hanging out, and for the amount of business they had going--just the two of us. Next time, I'll be heading to Los Carboncitos.
(3)Crys A.
This Tacos Y Salsas wishes it could be the Tacos Y Salsas in Westminster, which is way better on all counts not the least of which is based on my sound judgment when I am not drinking. And having said that, my review doesn't matter anyway, because everyone will still go to this Tacos Y Salsas, even the weird vagabond woman hunkered over the salsa bar breathing her one-tooth whiskey breath all over the cilantro and salsa and making me want to be anywhere else at all on the planet but there. Food was lame. Waitress hated me because I can't speak Spanish and am unspeakably pretty, I am supposing.

Pretty big dining room, lively decor, reasonable prices, generous portions, tasty food. It'd be helpful if their salsa bar was labeled, and better protected from all the public using it. A couple of musicians showed up and played, which was great. The service was curt but quick and efficient.

The flautas will make men feel inadequate. In the pants area. Because they're ginormous.

Everybody in Denver knows that if you want good tacos the best bet is to cruise up and down south Federal. There are a plethora of good carts, trucks, and taquerias, but Tacos Y Salsas surpasses the rest. I have eaten at Tacos Y Salsas #3 a number of times. Every time that I go I feel as though I should have returned sooner. Going into the experience one must recognize that this is not fine dining, it is street food that just happens to be served inside. The restaurant is no frills, but fun. The tacos are huge (I'm not a small man and three tacos fills me to the brim), inexpensive (less than $2/pop), and just plain tasty. My favourites are the tacos de carnitas and the carne asada, although everything I've had has been very good. They have a fresh salsa bar with about 8 different variations (my personal favourite is the avocado salsa). When your food arrives be sure to take your tacos to the salsa bar to add fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime. Tacos really don't get much better. The service at Tacos Y Salsas is satisfactory, although you shouldn't be afraid to go to the counter to ask for what you need. The staff are always professional and usually very friendly. For a quick, delicious meal, you should check this place out.

Stop number 3 on the tour and I was starting to slow down. Their tacos have a lot of meet on them so 1 was plenty. They are also only $1.70 and had double the meat as others we had today. I got the barbacoa and it was very tender and juicy. I didn't like that you got the taco with nothing on it and had to get up to the toppings and sauces bar. They need 2 bars to serve the restaurant.

Stop number 3 on the Taco Rapture tour. I probably would have gone four stars if not for the chicharrones taco. It was rather disgusting. This is not my favorite taco variety, but I have enjoyed them in the past. They are usually crispy/greasy goodness. This one was slimy, like something that had stewed all day in a bad batch of menudo. So, instead of crunchy decadence, I tasted wet porky sponge, which was a challenge to swallow. The service was good, the cleanliness had room for improvement. The other tacos were flavorful, but they really should have doubled up on these thinner tortillas, as they kept falling apart. The prices were good, the salsa/condiment bar was big.
(3)Cheryl L.
Taco Rapture - Stop #3. This was my least favorite of the four stops. I decided to try chicarrones. I also ordered the El Pastor, Carnitas, barbacoa. I have to say that the chicarrones was one of the most disgusting things that I have had in a long time. One of my guilty pleasures is pork rinds from time to time. I'm not sure what they did to they little strips of pig fat but it wasn't anything good - they were spongy, slimy, and soggy. The other tacos were a little flavorless but there was tons of meat - double the meat of the other places. They also had a nice salsa bar off to the side which helped spice things up.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to visit a Tacos y Salsas! I live in Mexico half the year and I seriously miss the food when I'm back in Denver and I have to tell you this place is the real deal. I had 4 tacos today (way too much food) - dos tacos de carnitas, uno taco adovado y uno taco de lengua. They were all terrific and the salsas were all muy sabroso tambien. The tortillas are a little bit larger than I'm used to in Mexico and I left the "second" one behind on all four. Saved room for a little trip to Bonnie Brae for some helado. One Modelo and the tacos - less than $15 - so not dirt cheap like Mexican street tacos but I'm not worried about late night stomach issues either. I'd highly recommend a visit to this taqueria.

I have been here twice now and I will go back. The food is tasty and cheap and the staff is very friendly even to Gringos like us. The only drawback is that it is a little dirty. The first time it seemed pretty clean except for the bathroom. The second time it seemed a lot dirtier. The floors and the main dining area even needed a good scrub. If you want to dine on yummy tacos and you have limited funds this is a super choice!
(3)Courtney B.
Very delicious torta, maybe the best I've had! The salsas are too hot for me and the chips are from a bag, but over all the experience was super delish!

I'd heard folks rave for long enough, so on a recent trek to Avanza Supermarket I stopped in for lunch at Tacos Y Salsas. Tacos are not usually my first choice in Mexican food, but how could I go here and not get a taco? First, the tortillas: they were warm, a little thick and kinda chewy, but tasted pretty fresh. Perhaps because of their thickness, they only use one tortilla per taco. The meat: very, very good. There was probably enough meat for two tacos in just one, so I ate some of it with a fork before digging in fully. The carnitas were excellent, crispy without tasting dry. (Note to self: bring floss if you plan to eat carnitas, or you risk an uncomfortable bus ride home) The adobada taco meat was also plentiful and flavorful. The salsa: too salty for my tastes. I tried a few but ended up just adding cilantro and lime to my tacos, which was really all they needed. One salsa was so salty I nearly gagged, but then again I'm not much of a fan of salt. The horchata: sweeter than I prefer. I got two tacos and an horchata and spent under $5. Such a deal! I can't imagine trying to eat their "4 tacos for $5" special. Too much food!
(3)Kelly M.
Dudes, forget the tacos. Sure they're good, but it's meat and a tortilla. It's all about the gorditas! If you haven't tried the them at TyS, you've led an deprived life.
(4)Vanessa G.
Tacos are amazing here, stuffed full of yummy goodness!! They are open pretty late too, I think until 4AM. Salsa bar is fresh, thy were bringing out fresh salsa when we went in around midnight. Going to be my new go to taco spot!!
(5)michael d.
Great asada and carnitas tacos. Huge nachoes. Delicious and a great salsa bar. Wonderfully inexpensive :-)
(5)Doug Y.
Uhhh, umm. Oh god yes. I pick you up and put your soft and tender delicious skin into my mouth and gently at first bite down and feel the crunch of your carmelized flesh inside resisting my oh so hungry mouth... I savor the onions, cilantro, and rich red salsa I laid inside of you with a squeeze of lime combined with the nicely spiced goodness of your crunchy adobada filling. I have to slow down, I don't want this feeling to ever end so I put you down and take a heavy pull off of my limed and salted red can of Tecate. Ahhhhhh. Let's continue... Oh but your neighbor here on the plate needs attention too. Al pastor and adobada. Taco heaven once again. I missed you, really I did but you were so wrong the last few times I saw you. Don't worry. We can work it out. It'll be okay.
(5)Caroline C.
Tried the chicharron taco on Sunday. It wasn't really what I was expecting. Interesting flavor, slightly stomach-turning texture... Glad I tried it but I'm not in any hurry to repeat the experience. Had a torta again, this time with al pastor. It totally lived up to my expectations. The meat was a little fattier than last time but it was still crispy and tender and flavorful. I'd love to know where they get their bread rolls (or rather "bolillos" - thanks, Matt P!) because they are absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was so nice - lots of families enjoying a delicious lunch, with bunches of cute kids running about and causing mischief, plus all the tvs were showing the Mexico V USA footie game which made for a cheery, slightly boisterous ambiance. I really really love this place. Can't wait to go back next weekend to try something else!

This review is for the one on the EAST side of federal. I was a little unclear on what to do when walking in. No one really addressed me, so I just walked up to the counter. The guy told me I could sit wherever, so I picked a window seat. It was pretty hot in there and the sun shining on me made it hotter. Oh well, it was nothing a cold negra modelo couldn't fix. =). I ordered the taco plate, which comes with 3 tacos, rice and beans. I got 2 al pastor, and 1 carnitas. I checked out some of the salsas before my food arrived and I found a couple that I liked quite a lot. One was a creamy tomato, the other was the avocado one. My plate was delivered about 5 minutes after ordering. I garnished my tacos with some cilantro and lime and dove in. Carnitas, yeah it was good. Very good, actually. I just love pork, and this is good. Tastes like pork, lightly spiced. Very tender and not fatty at all. The tortillas were thick, soft, and warm. The al pastor was the real winner here. Fantastic! Spicy and Sweet! Just huge flavor. I loved the al pastor and would order this any day of the week. The rice was fine, and the beans were passable but too salty for me. Still, the tacos are the real deal. I spent 11 bucks for the meal plus the beer. That's tough to argue with for tacos this good! I'm a fan.
(4)Monty B.
Was intrigued by this place because they make their own tortillas. They weren't that great. Got some al pastor tacos and all it was was meat on a tortilla. Nothing else. Where was the pineapple? The onion? The cilantro? The taco bar was disappointing too, Salsas were mediocre. Chips bleh. Maybe fry up your extra tortillas to make the chips?

As much as it pains me to write this, our last several visits to TyS prompt a serious downgrade in starworthyness. Above all, to earn my love, a restaurant Must. Be. Consistant. Though I have no doubt that-- when they're on point-- TyS will continue to serve up some of Denver's tastiest tacos, the times that they DON'T will unfortunately take center stage. Sadly, this has been the case the last several times we've visited. When the Al Pastor is good, it's crispy, sizzly, seasoned perfectly and delicious. When it isn't, it's pale brown, rubbery, and has large chunks of gristly fat worked in amidst the meat. It's like that big hunk o' meat hasn't been turning on the spit long enough or something. The last THREE times we've visited, we've gotten the fatty, icky, barely-cooked stuff. I guess you can call that "consistency," but not in a good way. Sigh... too bad. I think I'm done with TyS. Now accepting applications for a new fave (please don't suggest Tacos Junior, because their Al Pastor is weirdly sweet and I'm not down with that)...!
(2)Frank T.
Tacos Y Salsas es muy delicioso. Seriously, this place is great. So long as you stick with the tacos. To be fair everything here has a homemade taste, but the tacos are outrageously good. The meats are all really flavorful and moist. Even the machaca, dried crushed meat, is delicious and full of flavor. The tortillas are delicious handmade corn perfection, and are served as a complimentary side dish, so good! Tacos also offers Mexican sodas with real sugar and none of that high-fructose-corn-syrup crap. Ah... Tacos y Salsas, I love your tacos! To be quite honest, I go to Tacos y Salsas and I wonder why on Earth I ever go to Taco Bell. Oh yeah, because it's post 2:00 AM and I (think) I am starving!!! ha ha
(4)Alissa S.
Gotta love that fast, cheap, greasy Mexican food, especially when it's more authentic than your typical "burrito" stand. But I warn you, Tacos Y Salsas is not for the faint of heart. Or more, faint of stomach. I ordered the carnitas gordita, which was warm and crispy, but a little too greasy for my taste. The portions of meat are generous though a bit under seasoned. The salsa bar is definitely the highlight of the restaurant. All the salsas are delicious, at least the three I tried. The tomatillo and ranchero salsas had nice flavor and good, mild heat. I kind of wish there was more of a sneeze guard type thing (condiments are a little too exposed). I agree with what others say about the ambiance of the place (the main reason I got my food to go during rush hour).
(3)Monica L.
For what it is, Mexican street food and other "everyday" Mexican food, this place is great. My husband had five different tacos. He thought they were all excellent, particularly the asada. I had chile rellenos (crispy) and thought they were delicious.
(4)Alejandro D.
Sorry but this place is wayyy overrated. Coming from LA-via SF-via Mexico City, this place was a huge let down. The tacos were too big and greasy and while some of the salsas were fantastic, some were straight up gross. It wasn't terrible, they I enjoyed my taco al pastor among others but you can get MUCH better versions of them at Los Carbonsitos for the same price and better ambiance. One thing to avoid as far as authentic is fresh lettuce. That's aways a bad sign. In mexico, we use cilantro, onion and some lime on our tacos 90 percent of the time and I never saw cut of lettuce like that. I'm going to give it 3 stars because the bar is pretty low ( in denver and US to be honest) and because some of their stuff was pretty tasty, just not authentic
(3)Darika S.
This place is the bomb. I'm a cheese enchilada girl, so I got one of those, a chile relleno and a guacamole tostada. The red chili sauce is sooooo good! Got 2 combo meals for less than $15. Will be back!!! Great guac, spicy sauce and cheap does it get any better?!
(5)Byron R.
I had three Barbacoa tacos. The meat had little taste. The salsas were also not up to my liking. I judge all my tacos and salsas against the ones I had in Nuevo Laredo and San Jose del Cabo. These just do not compare.
(2)Jim S.
The tacos here are amazing. I don't see how anyone can complain about their price or quality. My wife and I had lunch here (we have been many times before). She had 2 tacos and I had 3 and I also had a Coke. Out the door with a tip for $15 bucks. I am a big guy and I was stuffed. Their service is always quick and courteous. You don't go for the atmosphere, yes the music can be a bit loud, and the booths and tables have seen better days. But the food is fantastic! The salsa are wonderful and they generally have 5-6 kinds. This is authentic Mexican food, not Americanized. The tacos don't come with cheese and crap. Just a tortilla and loads of delicious meat. You can add the onions, some lime and salsa. Completely simple but so delicious. The caritas and abobada are to die for. I wish I could eat here every day.
(5)Ramon G.
I finally tried this place out. I was worried I couldn't find the place but the restaurant can easily be seen from space. Follow the yellow glow. I prefer to call the place, "Salsas y Tacos" . The large salsa bar was wonderful. I tried everything. We tried a few tacos and 1 gordita. The taste of fresh masa gave the tacos a very authentic taste. Wash everything down with a bottled coke. muy rico!
(4)Erica M.
I had to go check this place out after reading all of the reviews on it last night. Mmm, am I glad I did! The corn tortillas have got to be the stars of the show. A good tortilla really does make the taco. They were soft and fresh and DELICIOUS. The al pastor was great, not at all salty like i've read others say. The salsa bar was good too. I love pico de gallo, so that was great. I also love that they have cut up lime wedges because I love me some lime! And the bottled coke is bigger than my head. It really does taste better out of a glass bottle. Overall my delicious lunch was 5 bucks. I'm definitely going again, and taking all of my taco loving friends with me!

Food makes me happy. I know it's wrong. I am a foodie. My esteem sometimes depends on a good meal. This place makes me happy. Read my little story and you will know why! Shanette and I gave this place a try one afternoon. After some language barrier problems the waitress (I am a stupid white girl and took German in high school, not helpful) was able to tell me which ones were beef. I ordered 2 tacos and one tostada. I then went over to the salsa bar. GIDDY. GRINNING. ELATION. I then came back to the table with roasted jalapenos, salsas, and onions practically dancing! In case you missed it ROASTED JALAPENOS!! I freaking love them! The tacos were good. The salsa good. The price was out of this world. I have been back one other time. There were no roasted jalapenos. There were only pickled ones (I hate pickled jalapenos almost as much as iceberg lettuce). I am not sure how consistent they are with the salsa bar, but I will be tickled every time there happens to be roasted jalapenos.
(4)Thomas S.
Tacos y Salsas #3 is probably the best of their locations, IMO. Especially when it comes to tacos. While I am not a big fan of their pastor, they do have some other great options, especially if you are adventurous. The other day, I tried the buche, which can be a little odd if you think about it too much. Buche can refer to any part of the pig's digestive tract - from esophogus to stomach to intestine. Sound gnarly, but it tastes so damn good. It is like chewy soft, buttery chunks of pig essense. I also had the adobado, which was good, despite being really salty. We all know about the epic salsa bar, with endless options of salsas and other fixings. But what really sells this place is their homemade tortillas and their massive tacos, which are dirt cheap, pound for pound.
(3)Michelle H.
I love, love the food here. Everything is totally authentic. :)

How do you say "super fresh salsa" in espanol..... wow!! We finally stopped here after our final Lakeside visit of the season. We wanted a taco stand and based on Yelp there was a lot of hype regarding Tacos Y Salsa. We saw it and knew we found our stand. First off the staff was awesome, being our first time the guy was really helpful and pointed us in the right direction. The tortillas are made from scratch (as I'm guessing the whole salsa bar is too). And were delicious. I went with the chicharron tacos (I wouldn't have gotten it had I known what it was, I got it confused with cameron (shrimp) so that was my bad, they were still good for what it was), I would have much rather have tried something else. The salsa had great flavor, perfect spiciness and super fresh for being towards the end of the day. They made my son a burrito that was not on the menu and it was super grande! We ordered a couple extra sides of the home-made tortillas, beans and rice, 2 orders of tacos and the burrito. Our tab was 17 bucks... you can't go wrong with that!! I am definitely heading back to try some more... The only complaint that I have is that I try and eat vegetarian as much as possible and there really isn't much to order that is vegetarian... but none-the-less it's a great spot and awesome salsa!!
(4)Lindsey H.
I really can't get enough of the al pastor tacos here. They are amazing. I love watching the cooks grilling up the sizzling meats, and the lady hand making tortillas on the griddle. It's the perfect appetizer. The hardest part of coming here for me is deciding on a salsa- so I usually just go with all of them. And lately they've had a big bowl of roasted jalapenos by the salsa bar. Love! -1 star because they do everything bare-handed, which is slightly gross (yeah cook, I saw you grabbing stuff out of the back room then using those same bare hands to make my tacos- it's cool, though).
(4)Toni D.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the tacos were here. The prices are great too 5 tacos for $4 or $1.55 each. But don't expect anything but meat on the tacos and lots of it. You can ask for cheese and sour cream for an extra charge. Good salsa bar...oh and the chicken tacos are the best and I was full after 2 tacos! Also, don't worry about blaring music like the other yelper's mentioned. No, music was playing when I went in just today.
(4)Terry B.
I'll be honest. I was slightly taco'd out at this point as it was stop #3 on the taco tour. We enjoyed the al pastor, barbacoa and lengua tacos. Of the three stops, this was my least favorite lengua. The al pastor was solid, but the barbacoa was fantastic! The salsa bar is fantastic, the service was quick, prices were good and I'll definitely be back.
(3)Jill B.
My favorite mexican restaurant and I live in San Antonio TX! Every time I go here I have the chile relleno. They do it so perfectly. The tacos are great too. The atmosphere is grea too. When you walk in it's very colorful and the music is great. The waitresses are okay. It's kind of a hit or miss with them. Some are nice and some aren't...but thats just people for ya. I can't wait to go to this place again. Super fun and deliscious!! They also serve beer and homemade horrchata
(5)David S.
In my quest to serve you, the loyal Yelping community, I feel that it is my job to find Denver's all time best tacos. I suffer, you benefit. I have now suffered at Tacos y Salsas #3 TWICE, just because I could not believe the experience I had the first time could possibly be indicative of their overall quality. NO WAY could a taco place in Denver be this good. Outside of Guadalajara, there could not be a taco place this good anywhere, could there be? My fellow Yelpers, I have good news for you. In a word, Tacos y Salsas #3 is the real deal and is definitely a finalist for Denver's best taco. There are many great taco places in Denver as I have been discovering, but Tacos y Salsas #3 is just that cut above the rest. I have now had their tacos or gorditas with Tripas, Asada, Buche, Lengua, Chicharonnes and Deshebrada and I will tell you that my only complaint is that at Tacos Y Salsas #3 I am forced to either decide between which four meats I want to have on my tacos, or I have to figure out how to stuff more than four tacos into my stomach. It is not possible, I have tried. Every taco comes with a large (heaping) portion of meat for the ridiculously low price of $1.50 each. $2.30 for a gordita. Very good salsas at the bar to add if you like to kick it up just a notch or thirteen. These tacos are not greasy, not fatty, not dripping in juices. They are just plain delicious. Now if I could only get them to add cabeza, trompas, and chorizo to their meat menu, I would have to figure out how to eat nine tacos at a sitting. It wouldn't be easy, but for you my fellow yelpers, I would have to try.
(4)Dan W.
It looks like there are 2 Tacos Y Salsas on the same section of Federal. There is one on the West and one on the East just a few blocks South. I haven't been to the one on the East in a couple of years I guess, for all I know it's too salty. So back to 3 stars with it. I have been to the one on the West a lot lately, and it's been great. It definitelly has the grilled salted Jalapeños because I had one today. If I figure out the address I will add it and give it 4 stars. It's super-cheap too, 4 tacos, 2 drinks, and complimentary chips and salsa bar for under $10 plus tip.
(3)Rachel M.
I have to bump this place up to five stars, because I crave their tacos every week, and their salsa selection it top three in town. Pork Adovada and Al Pastor are my stand-by's. I've found that in the daytime I can get away with speaking gringo, but at night I often have to bust out my fifth-grade Spanish. Sometimes I venture away from tacos to try other dishes on the menu, but their delicious meats keep calling me back.
(5)Sara G.
Tacos y salsas es muy autentico!! Now, THESE are tacos - and only $1.55!! I tried the asada and adabado (grilled steak and marianated grilled pork, respectively) and a bean tostada. Everything was delicious and the salsas at the salsa bar were all excellent - flavorful, fresh and hot - but not terribly so. Hubby also had an asada taco and a barbacoa taco, which melted in our mouths it was so tender. The bean tostada was also excellent (despite the less than ripe tomato, which is a crime this time of year) - I love the texture of the beans, not as silky as some but true refried texture. YUM! I can't wait to go back and get chicharron on my tostada (they were out today). The atmosphere is friendly and authentic and is lots of fun. I highly recommend! 8/14/09 - I went back and tried the chicharron tostada, and I have to admit that I don't like undercooked chicharrones - the texture is too soft and fatty for me (odd, considering my tastes, I know). However, the adobada was amazingly delicious - so sweet with the chili spices and dripping in sauce. I also tried the el pastor, which I liked a lot as well.
(4)William B.
Artery clogging deliciousness. Homemade tortillas, delectable meat choices galore, a salsa bar to leave your mouth burning (for actual pain at the same time as a craving for more), ice cold jarritos, all on the cheap, quick and easy. Of note, your main ingredient WILL be meat in your taco, so be prepared to use those canines. I've never seen it up and running, but if my spanish translation skills have any credibility, I think you can pay your bills here as well (I think the ones down in mexico as well as the neighbor to the north). If you don't come for the food, come for the telenovelas blaring in the bar area during lunch.
(4)Moni L.
Damnit... Some of the most delicious carnitas and asada I have had in a taco. I love the carnitas there. It's not over salty, its a little crispy but very nicely flavored. I LOVE the asada they over. I think it's marinated and cooked to perfection! The tortillas are so fantastic and FRRREEEESSHHHH and warm... Makes you giggle like a little girl. I still have yet to try their sopa burgers but I havent had a bad experience there yet. MMmM delicious..
(4)Hans O.
Bummed but still happy with their overall food and service. They claim to have menudo soup on Saturdays and Sundays. Went there after a busy night of entertainment at 2:30AM to grab some menudo for the day after cure but they had none! Settled with tacos al pastor with pineapple. It was great, but still, I didn't get any menudo.
(4)Dana M.
I loved the barbaquoa tacos so much I took a container of meat home with me. The price can't be beat either. I had one carnitas taco and thought the meat was dry, but well spiced. The tortillas were freshly made and served warm. They have a salsa bar which I found a bit lacking but thats likely because I'm not crazy about jalapenos- each salsa had so much heat that i tasted no flavor, just a lot of onions. I literally dug through the salsa fresca to find the tomatoes! Regardless, I loved the under $2 tacos and would go again

I've been here once before, and I ordered a burrito. Can't remember which one it was, just remembered it being "no bueno." A few bites got eaten before it was discarded. That's the night I realized that when you go to a place called "Tacos Y Salsas" which translates to "Tacos and Salsas" it's probably a wise idea to go for the tacos and salsa. So- yesterday we went back for some lunch. The atmosphere is much more classy than most restaurants of this type. I like all the pretty bright colors. Went with 4 tacos and a side of rice. Mine were barbacoa, and Rico's were asada and carnitas. Damn! If these aren't some tasty tacos! Like little mouth orgasms every time I bite. Very good. The salsa selection is also very good. Every one I've tasted has been great. Nice flavor, good heat (but not too much) etc. So- from my review, you probably think I had a pretty good time. And I did. Until later that night.... Without going into too much detail- I was awoken at least 10 times last night with blinding pain in my stomach. I spent at least an hour and a half of my valuable beauty rest, on the au toilette. Used a whole roll of toilet paper, and read The newest Westword. As I am typing this now (approximately 20 hours after my tacos y salsas experience) I still feel like doo doo. My stomach feels like it has been coiled real tight then tied in knots. So- for the food, I give 4 stars. But- for my food poisoning situation, I will give no stars. Although the food is good, it's not worth the pain I'm currently in. If you are tough and think you can handle it, then check it out. I won't be back. I already have a rock-solid Mexican Restaurant that I should have learned already, is the best in Denver. La Casa Del Rey Check it out: yelp.com/biz/la-casa-del…

File under: Believe the hype. I used a trip down to Denver for the Punk Rock Flea Market with my son as an excuse to make a detour and finally hit up T y S #3. Wow, did it ever live up to my expectations. Unbelievable food on the cheap. I don't have a lot to add to what's already been said, but I do want to repeat that it's amazing how much meat they pile on a single (homemade and delicious) tortilla. The al pastor meat wasn't the best I've ever had, but the carnitas may have been. They got that perfect mix of moist and crispy, without being all lubed up with grease. The salsa bar was a fun adventure, allowing my palate to play hopscotch as I worked through my plate of tacos. I also got a side of beans, and they too did not disappoint. If anything, my only complaint was that the service was kinda bad. I don't know if they were understaffed that day, but I saw group after group come in and wait for a table to be cleaned and set, and it was a bit rough getting our server's attention as she hustled to and fro. Oh, I'm also pissed that it's so far from my house, cause I don't want to spend in gas what my entire meal would cost there. But I will. Cheers!

Huge tacos at ridiculous prices.... 4 tacos, beer and chips for less than $10. Tried the buche, carnitas and al pastor. Fave was the carnitas with onion, cilantro, lime and avocado salsa. They had the infamous roasted japs out on the salsa bar (although I think they were fried). The first couple bites were great, then when I got to the seeds, my mouth blew up in flames. Be careful with those things.

I went to the Tacos y Salsas in Aurora before trying the #3. I'll admit this was after reading it got the best taco award from Westword and I can see why. Great tacos yet at the price you would expect to pay for a taco. I can get 5 tacos at Tacos y Salsas for about the same price I would pay for 3 tacos Chipotle, and with greater variety and better quality. The first time at this location was for my birthday. 12 people and the bill was $70 without the tip. Granted, I did get a discount (the bill was originally ~$80) because I paid in cash and probably also because of the large party and desire for my repeated business--and repeat my business there I have. That was mighty classy of them. Not just because I got that nice discount. The meat and corn tortillas are nice and fresh and so are the salsas and vegetables at the salsa bar. The pico de gillo, which I am quite partial to, is nice and crisp (unlike at Chipotle and Q'doba where it is quite squishy). All of the salsas are quite tasty, and the set up with a salsa bar allows for lots of variety. Probably my favorite taco is the adobada with a squirt of some lime and topped with cilantro. The al pastor is a close 2nd with some pico, lime, and green salsa. The service is good, just step in, grab a seat, and get promptly served and your food will be ready ~5-15 minutes depending on how busy they are and the size of your party. They also have nice hours, open till midnight on weekdays, and till 3 on the weekends (Friday through Sunday I believe). So far I've only had the tacos here, so I cannot judge the other items on the menu. The tortas (Mexican style sandwich) look good, but as the restaurant's namesake suggests, you can't go wrong with the tacos. Simple, tasty, and cheap...worthy of 5 stars in my book.

There are some fantastic attractions of Taco Y Salsas. *Homemade thick corn tortillas in generous servings *Flavorful juicy barbacoa tacos *Huge bottled Mexican pop *Fast service *Bumping rhythmic Mexican music blaring throughout the restaurant *Intense chili menudo As a warning and reiteration, they have some intense food. And I don't necessarily mean simply intensely hot. Their menudo is a thicker, spicier, stomach-burning, heart-burn inducing, breath annihilating type that I had never experienced before. It was good, but also very "tripey" and it gave me heartburn (I NEVER get heartburn!) for approximately 8 hours. Plus, I maintained completely unapproachable to other humans even after brushing my teeth twice and tossing in some gum. They also have some strange, very fragrant, odorous rice that smells like a B.O. hybrid of cilantro. All in all, I would go back but anyone that goes here is wise to proceed with caution if they have any intention of kissing someone in the next 24 hours.

Well that was a fine taco! Possibly the best I've had since leaving that sleepy little bordertown called San Diego. It's a couple blocks down from the Westwood library, where I was spending my day, so I cruised on over for lunch after phoning in my order: two carnitas tacos. (I only ordered two because yelpers had said the tacos were pretty large. They were right!) The lady on the phone said my order would be ready in ten minutes. I got there in five, and they were waiting for me. I guess we all underestimated each other's quickness. I was presented with meat on tortilla, and that's all. The carnitas looked great though, like it had been slow roasting over the BBQ all day, and the flour tortillas were solid and substantial. No fear of them breaking and spilling your taco all over. Sauntered over to the salsa bar and started dressing up the tacos. There were four to five different salsas, limes, onions, cilantro, and more. Impressive spread. Overall, the food was excellent and I will definitely be going back, at the very least to sample the salsa bar to completion.

Ended up in this part of town looking for some grub and decided to give this joint a try. I have had Tacos Y Salsa's off east colfax but they're unrelated. I ordered 3 asada tacos and a bottled coke. They were fantastic with a seemingly thicker home made corn tortilla which were single instead of double toritillas. But I really like the thicker style. And the salsa selections are excellent. (hence the name) Speedy and Tacotasitic.

The best "real" Mexican food that we have found in Colorado (i.e. not everything is covered in green chile). Don't get me wrong, I love green chile, but sometimes you just want the basics done right. Just meat and tortillas and the best salsas (and free chips) we've had in a long time. So delicious and so cheap!

service sucks but the food is ok.

Wow a Flan Machine? Well not quite, that is what it looks like. It just a flan fridge but I definitely need to go there and try one of them. We were just so stuffed after hitting upt 2 Taco joints before. Tacos Y Salsa was our final stop in our taco crawl. Served up good tacos and great fresh salsas! Hence Tacos Y Salsa. This place serves alcohol which is a plus because many ohter joints on Federal do noth ave a liquor license ( I bet you can BYOB though ). I had a Hornitos Margarita for $3.50 (what really?) and it was pretty tasty. The three off us studied the taco options and ordered: asada & adobada, pollo y al pastor & al pastor and deschrebada. We were so full from stuffing other tacos down our throats minutes before that we had to take our para llevar but we picked at them and they were solid. The best part about visiting Tacos Y Salsa is that you can update you CD and DVD collection as you can buy them right outside there door. (Supposedly the DVDs come in both English and Spanish) For those non-native Spanish speakers I would double check the fine print just in case.

We accidentally found Tacos Y Salsas on Yelp when trying to locate a Chinese restaurant. After reading all the great reviews my mouth was watering for some awesome tacos. This place is "HOT" on Yelp so we had to try it out. We walked into the door to find the cashier walking / salsa dancing across the floor with an order for a table. You know it will be a great experience when the staff loves the place they work at. It smelled fabulous inside and we were starving. I highly recommend the tacos.....any version will do. We ordered a sampling of 3 different types - all were wonderful. They have a full stocked salsa bar with additional toppings (cilantro, onions, limes, etc). It was well stocked and plenty of choices. Also the Chilies Rellenos was outstanding. Also highly recommended is the Pina Aqua Fresca.

Food Good - 3 stars, Atmosphere No Good - one star The food was pretty good. I got 3 chicken tacos. A lot of tasty chicken inside. The salsa bar was a little messy, but there were a lot of choices. I found about 4 salsas I liked. The chips were so so, sort of salty and like a bagged brand. We walked in at 3pm on a Saturday. The music was extremely loud, probably playing with a video on the TV, which looked like a dance or celebration. I couldn't even hear the waitress. The food came, and like I said, it was good. I ordered water and it was TERRIBLE. How can water be terrible you ask, it tasted like I was drinking straight bleach, and even tasted it later. If the salsa wasn't so hot, I wouldn't have touched the water, but gee what was I to do. While we ate a mariachi band came in and performed a few songs. Lucky for them, the TV was turned off at this point. The guitar player came to my husband and solicited a tip, showing him a few dollars and asking for a tip. Fortunately for guitar dude my hubby had two dollars in cash, which is rare, because he never carries cash. In defense of the restaurant, I don't think this band was connected to the place, and probably just travelled, since they had a battery operated amp. Ok, here comes the worst part. I still had one taco left and the girl worker decided to clean the floor with a mop and a ton of PINE SOL. YUCK! The smell was so bad I had to leave. I have to wonder if I'd go back. It's in a strange part of town. In the 13 years of living in Colorado I'd never been down this street. We were driving down 36 and I used the Yelp app and found this place.

I have been meaning to try Taco's for quite some time. I have always driven past it on my way down Federal. I knew I would like it. I knew I would like it when I walked in the door and saw a Mariachi band. Even better, the menu made me happy. $1.55 for tacos? Glorious. I had a a meat sandwich. At this moment, my memory is failing and I cant remember the name, but oh I remember the sandwich. It had a healthy portion of shredded pork on top of a thick slab of ham it had pinto beans on the bottom, guacamole on top with some shredded cabbage on white bread . Heaven right? It was so much food, I saved on half of the sandwich for dinner. how much was it? less than ten dollars with tip.

Good but not great. Didn't impress me.
(3)G. B.
Tacos Y Salsas on Federal is great. My new favorite taco spot, most deifnitely. Eveyrthing is fresh, authentic, and very affordable. They have a variety of meats to choose from and I have discovered that my favorite thing to eat here is a carnitas gordita (or two). At a little under $2.50 before tax, the meat-stuffed handmade tortilla pocket (with lettuce, cheese, and your choice of salsa from the salsa bar) is easily one of the best cheap meals in the city. There are more adenturous options for some (I hear tongue meat is some of the best and most tender), and they also make tacos, burritos, and other items. Make sure you're going to the right spot, though. It's on the corner of Kentucky and Federal and has neon green and red lights on the sign. Gorditas for the win!
(5)Tony D.
I've been here four times and I like it. I like the tacos al pastor the best. The asada can be really fatty and chewy sometimes. The salsa bar is good but not great. That being said, directly after eating here last time I went straight to Tacos Junior on federal. IMHO Juniors taco al pastor wins hands down. Although the tacos are smaller, they have better tasting meat, better salsa and come already dressed with the traditional onions and cilantro.

When considering bang for the buck, this place might be my favorite restaurant in Denver. The obvious starting point in any review of this place has to be the tacos and salsas. The tacos are pure magic- from the excellent meats to the physics defying tortillas. I have to talk about these tortillas for a second. It's one thing for them to be fresh and tasty, but these things refuse to get soggy and break. At times some of the meats (especially the adobada & carnitas) can be pretty wet. These tortillas stand up under any conditions, kind of like those Bounty (the quicker picker upper) commercials where someone sops up a whole gallon of milk and then the kids use the paper towel as a trampoline. Well, these tortillas do the taco equivalent, and then they go after world peace and other miracles. Now let's talk about meat. Here, everything is so unbelievably tasty. The carnitas and barbacoa are BBQ quality, the adobada is superb, and the el pastor is tasty and crunchy and soft all at the same time. One warning- if you folks think of chicharones (I know I misspelled) as crunchy and pork rind-like, pass on it here. They are like gelatin. Oh yeah, and these tacos are 1.55 each. Unbelievable. Now with the salsa bar. As long as you don't mind taking some chances and experimenting a bit, this is excellent. There are around 7-8 salsas to choose from, and the crazy thing is that none of them are labeled. There are a few green ones, a couple orange ones, a couple red ones, a pico-like mixture of fresh tomato, onion, cilantro, and peppers (get a lot of this). There are also onions and jalapenos for the taking. Overall, just grab a bunch of them and experiment bite by bite. Now the REALLY good stuff. Let's start with the gordita. HEAVEN. It's like a thin masa bun stuffed with meat and a little dash of cheese. I always go with the el pastor gordita because unlike the tortillas, the gordita "bun" doesn't handle moisture well. This "bun" (sorry if there is an official term for this, but I'm originally from Ohio and there is so much I don't know) gives these things a taste that is unrivaled. Two different friends of mine said these things are one of the best things they have ever eaten. You just take a bite, enjoy the taste, and it just seems to make sense. Oh yeah, and these things are less than $3. Next, let's talk torta. I had this for the first time earlier today, and WOW. The best way to explain this miracle is a Mexican sandwich, and eating one of these things makes you think they invented the sandwich. This thing is HUGE. A buddy of mine split one with me (we had already had quite a bit, but really wanted to try one). This was a wise move due to the size. It was so good though, we were talking about it the whole ride home. Whenever the car would get silent, someone would just blurt out, "wow, that torta was freaking awesome." I feel like I'll be saying that to myself for the next few weeks. Misc: Chowing like this while drinking a pacifico is just about perfect. If they didn't have beer, I would have to knock them down a star. Today, a mariachi-ish band came in, this was new for me. There were two older gents dressed as cowboys, and a teenager dressed as a teenager. Also, they incorporated a banjo. It was a nice touch. One last note. usually when you find tasty meals for dirt cheap, you suffer some horrible side effect (like whenever I have pho, my mouth and throat are coated in some type of coating for a day and a half). Ty's (what my buddies call Tacos y Salsas) seems to serve pretty good stuff, as the only side effect I feel is uncomfortable fullness, and that is 100% self inflicted. If you like tacos and the Mexican genre (not New Mexican, not Tex-Mex), you are cheating yourself by not trying this place. And here's a tip, buy a DVD on the way out (they have vendors right outside the door), because you will most likely be couch-bound for a few hours following a meal.

The food here is great, from the huge variety of tacos (tongue anyone?) to giant quesadillas and burritos, everything was ultra-fresh and to the table quickly. Everything's all in Spanish, but if you've lived in Denver for a while you should have picked up enough to figure it out. The salsas are tremendous and offer a heat level for everyone and you get to fill your own little tub from a help-yourself salsa bar. Speaking of bars, this place has a full one--big bonus in my mind.
(4)Devin F.
Cheap, authentic, yummy. Serious sauce on the green chile breakfast burrito. It hit the spot, twice! - It was so big I had to take it home and have leftovers. Even better the second time around.

this has become my favorite taqueria in denver very quickly. its bright, its yellow and its damn good. my first visit was a weekday before noon-i walked in and was immediately hesitant because the place had a funky smell. i walked up to the counter to order because it seemed like one those places. it's not, i was directed to a table and given a menu. i ordered four tacos two al pastor and two carnitas. beverage of choice was orchata. when the tacos came they were larger than the usual taco and had only one tortilla-personally i like two tortillas because i load em up and theres lest chance of breakage. the salsa bar was a beaut! onions, cilantro, lime, radish, salsa after salsa oh my. unfortunately they didnt have those pickled jalapenos my first visit though they were there on the second. i suited up my tacos and dove in-delicious. both the al pastor and carnitas were very good. 3 would have probably sufficed but i soldiered on. my second visit was after flying in from palm springs w a friend hmmm its late where can i get something to get me back in the denver state of mind. its like a billy joel song if billy joel was from denver. eating in palm springs didnt fulfill my foodie cravings and i needed something good. we decided on tacos y salsas. i had the cocktail camaron and a pacifico. sometime i am hesitant to order shrimp in taquerias but i had seen it on the previous visit and had added it to my list of things to check off. it was great! in fact it was damn great! i kept putting my spoon in and it seemed to never get to the bottom! the shrimp, tomato sauce, avocado, onion, and cilantro w the the additional crackers and hot sauce just were the perfect dinner! just talking about it makes me wonder when i'll be back even though i know its soon!
(5)robert b.
dude, i totally dig this place. i am a little scared by the way they seem to be opening a bunch of new sites. i hope that isnt the kiss of death. the carne asada tacos are the best in denver and if i havent tried every carne asada taco in denver it is not from lack or trying. gorditas are amazing. i really liked the shots for 4.50 too. gotta have shots.
(5)Archer D.
By far the best "fast" Mexican food I have had in Denver. But this place is not for your bridge and tunnel mexican eaters (i.e. surbanites stay clear, this ain't Chilis) I think living in LA for 6 years was the only thing that could help prepare me for the quailty of their food. Love the Salsa bar, and the Tacos had great meat. Almost perfect. I would definitly stick to the tacos, the burrito was good, but nothing special. Staff was friendly, but warning to the gringos in the crowd, they do not speak English. My biggest dissappoint was the only signs in English were awards from those cheesy Denver Magazines (like 5280 and Westwood) spewing praise from their pretentious hipster writers who propbably showed up dressed as bike messengaers on their silly 10 speeds (on a side note, why are all the hippster pretending to be bike messengars, don't they realize that is a terrible job, or are they just trying to relive the Real Life San Fran and their favorite guy Puck, totally lame that I know all that)

I've had a nice extended break from work and finally had a chance to check-out this place as it has been on my list for quite awhile. There are several other reviews here which are thorough, so there's no need for me to repeat my full experience as it's already been covered. It's fresh, delicious, inexpensive, and I didn't fit in at all which in my book makes it about as authentic as Mexican food gets. This place isn't for Applebee's fans-- you have to appreciate finding gems you feel a little uncomfortable about eating at (mostly because of the language barrier as I don't speak Spanish). If just DRIVING down Broadway scares you, you will never get close to all of the gems that this part of Federal has, and this one was definitely a great find!
(5)Piglet A.
I went here based on the reviews but was disappointed. I love tacos and got my usual carne asada tacos and they were not as good as at other places (Jaliscos, Carboncitos,Coyotito). I also agree with the other reviewers that all the salsas were way HOT! I might give this place another try.
(3)Jonathan S.
very lovely place to eat. great atmosphere. it feels like actually being in mexico when walking in. i ordered the tacos al pastor, and they were delicious. they have a salsa bar, and everything smells fresh and looks as though its made every hour. my only regret is that the tacos did not come with beans or rice (which apparently can be ordered separately).
(5)Monica L.
(5)Andee H.
(5)Jason S.
(4)Deya Z.
(4)Don P.
solid tacos!!! at a good price
(4)NicKole A.
Amazing! Way better than the one on 15st in Downtown Denver!! Keep up the good work! Thank you Tacos & salsa
(5)Robert G.
(5)Gee P.
(4)Melissa C.
(4)Kimberly M.
(4)P H.
We went that a few times, but stopped. Service is bad and they do an auto gratuity, on big parties wheter the service is good or not. They take the same salsa and reuse it. Not a good place! I heard this from a server that use to work there. I prefer authentic Mexican food. With sanitary practices
(2)Marcus C.
(5)Aimee L.

(1)G D.
Pretty big dining room, lively decor, reasonable prices, generous portions, tasty food. It'd be helpful if their salsa bar was labeled, and better protected from all the public using it. A couple of musicians showed up and played, which was great. The service was curt but quick and efficient.
(4)Peter B.
The flautas will make men feel inadequate. In the pants area. Because they're ginormous.

(5)Meredith G.
(3)Dale Z.

(4)Sara H.
(4)Cherie C.

(2)John M.

(3)Terry B.
(3)Edward T.
(5)Lindsey H.
(4)David S.
(4)Jill B.
(5)Dan W.

But I will. Cheers!

3 would have probably sufficed but i soldiered on. my second visit was after flying in from palm springs w a friend hmmm its late where can i get something to get me back in the denver state of mind. its like a billy joel song if billy joel was from denver. eating in palm springs didnt fulfill my foodie cravings and i needed something good. we decided on tacos y salsas. i had the cocktail camaron and a pacifico. sometime i am hesitant to order shrimp in taquerias but i had seen it on the previous visit and had added it to my list of things to check off. it was great! in fact it was damn great! i kept putting my spoon in and it seemed to never get to the bottom! the shrimp, tomato sauce, avocado, onion, and cilantro w the the additional crackers and hot sauce just were the perfect dinner! just talking about it makes me wonder when i'll be back even though i know its soon!

dude, i totally dig this place. i am a little scared by the way they seem to be opening a bunch of new sites. i hope that isnt the kiss of death. the carne asada tacos are the best in denver and if i havent tried every carne asada taco in denver it is not from lack or trying. gorditas are amazing. i really liked the shots for 4.50 too. gotta have shots.
