The sushi place in the heart of Cherry Creek is really yummy. A little bit different than other sushi places that I have been to. The Chirashi came as a box instead of a bowl. Which I've never had before but it was actually very delicious. The fish was really fresh and surprisingly the crab was not imitation! Which is definitely the mark of a good sushi bar in my book. The waitresses kept our hot tea glasses full so I was happy about that. Still getting used to the fact that every restaurant we go to instantly serves you water. Which is definitely nice since it's important that I stay hydrated a mile above sea level :-). The bowl with 20 bucks but definitely worth it. I shared it with my friend and we were both full again. Also they offer brown rice which is a nice option. When you sit down you get a bar salad which was very tasty with little chunks of octopus, cucumber, and seaweed salad. The Chirashi bowl also came with a half bowl of udon which was not bad. There is parking in the back and a patio out front for nice weather.

Worst place. Food was awful. Service was awful. No one knew how to do their jobs. Very overpriced. Just don't go.

What a wonderful sushi experience! Sushi Tazu is small and intimate: there are about a dozen tables snuggled up next to each other throughout the restaurant along with a number of seats along the sushi bar. The latter would be a great experience for a date, watch the master chef at work! Try the sashimi! Tazu's is so fresh, the cuts of fish practically melt in your mouth. And of course, there are a good number of delicious rolls from which to choose. My favorite part of dining here is that each part of your order is brought separately, not all on one plate. First the sashimi, then a gorgeous roll, followed by your next roll. And the next. And the next. While I felt the sushi was comparable to my other favorites in town, the experience was a stand out for me. Wonderful service and a friendly staff, all within a beautiful little restaurant. I'll definitely be back to sample more sushi, as well as some of the noodle dishes.

Sushi Tazu creates an honorable plate of sushi for the going rate in the Cherry Creek area of Denver. With its close proximity to numerous other excellent culinary choices in the immediate area one would imagine that Sushi Tazu would have to stand out in this side of Cow Town, espcially with the lack of "new school" gimmicks you encounter at nearby Hapa or the superfandom the locals show Sushi Den across town. Although the meat is fresh enough for Denver's standards the nuanced flavors are fair, if not uninspired. Sushi Tazu's approach is most certainly subtle or subdued in both fare and decor. The tuna meat in the sushi was a touch dry and this lead to a disappointing mouthfeel while chewing. The salmon however was fresh and almost has a citrus note that lent itself well to just a touch of soy. I found the tuna roll to be serviceable with a good slathering of soy but I would have liked a more potent heat in the finish. $7.00 for the large 21 ounce bottle of Sapporo was a great value in this Californian's eyes, which naturally helped the overall value of the meal. I would most certainly head back to Sushi Tazu if invited by a friend or co-worker, but there are better options in the immediate area had I the craving for sushi alone or on a date.

Great sushi, great service. The prices are reasonable and probably cheap for Cherry Creek standards. The ambiance is very casual and authentic, not at all trendy or overdone. The tables are pretty small - I wouldn't try going here with a group larger than 4.

Nice size fresh sushi selections but inefficient service. They forgot an edamame order, took forever to remember fresh wasabi request, two pieces of sushi so delayed we thought we were done. Getting check took an eternity and of course included the items we never got (another long delay then back). Everyone friendly but just didn't have their stuff together- this In a quiet weekday night?! So go for the sushi and hope you get better organized service then we did!

We took a group here when the restaurant we were going to was on too long of a wait...and I am sooo glad that we did. Let me start by saying that I don't eat ANY seafood...so I can't speak to the sushi. Everyone else in my group does and all of them were very pleased with their sushi. I had their chicken and beef and BOTH were cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was fun (it was decorated for the holidays so that helped). I would recommend it to anyone.

I have been eating at Sushi Tazu for at least 10 years. They have the best sushi in Denver. Everything is always so good and so fresh, it's hard to believe its located in a landlocked state. The staff is so friendly and so charming. Sometimes my family brings our dog and we tie him up to the fence outside. Not only are dogs welcome outside, they bring them water bowls and sometimes some treats too! If you order takeout, it's always ready within 20-30 minutes tops. And you always get exactly what you order. My favorite thing to eat here is the Nabeyaki Udon and the Uni (sea urchin) sashimi. They semi-recently updated their menu, so there are different options, but they will pretty much make you anything you want. For example, they don't have a Sunomono salad on the menu, but if you want one you will get one no problem! Seriously, this place has the most consistently great service and food in Denver!

WARNING!!!...When the best thing you can say about a place is at least I did not get sick, it's not a good thing. I walked in with my friend and his wife at 7:00 PM and thought we would generally have an idea what we were getting. She had been going here for over a decade and I for 5 years or so. What we encountered was downright the worst sushi experience I have ever had. What this place lacked in expedient and courteous service, it well made up for in rolls that were constructed so poorly, that they required a shovel rather than chopsticks. (disclaimer: I don't send back food as a matter of practice for safety purposes...I have worked in restaurants myself). After each of our rolls coming out what seemed like one every 15 minutes, the last two rolls, which were the ones I ordered, yellow tail and tuna rolls came out. As I said earlier, instead of eating the roll as a whole, I used grabbed each roll with my hand to ensure that I could grab the whole pile o' rice and fish and dip it in soy sauce to make it palatable. While our waitress was nice, when we asked for the manager following close to 90 minutes at the restaurant. When she arrived, we were confronted with a continuous barrage of pedantic contrived apologies. To make matters worse, the manager actually started the conversation by unapologetically throwing the waitress under the proverbial bus. As a result of this experience, after 5 years of periodically going to this restaurant, I have ordered my last roll at this place. I can't speak for my friend or his wife, but I believe they feel the same. On a more positive note, at least they will no longer be getting any more of my money; this place is not exactly good value either.

Food was excellent. Service was awesome. Sushi was the best or second best I've had in Denver. The quality was about tied with Sushi Den but at 2/3 the cost. Authentic Japanese restaurant. This is our new favorite sushi restaurant.

Sushi Tazu will satisfy your sushi craving but it will not WOW you. Among other things I thought the food needed seasoning (I found myself adding a lot of soy sauce to the dishes just to add flavor). We had the Nabeyaki Udon, Tekka Maki (raw tuna rolled in rice), sake (raw salmon on rice), tempura meal (consisting of veggie tempura and shrimp tempura served with rice and salad). All good, nothing great.

Sushi is top notch and very tasty and creative. The service is one of the best I have experienced servers that are friendly and know what your taste buds will like on the menu. The Desert was extremely good just heads up though when you order it make sure you say hold the ice cream or Gelato or they might top your desert with some chocolate Gelato. The Green Tea Cheese Cake, Coconut Creme Brule are delicious. They also have a great selection of good cold sakes and Japanese Beer.

I had the sushimi for dinner. It was soooo good. Tasted very fresh. I also ordered a dirty martini kind of wished it was more dirty but it was still tasty. Food here was awesome. The staff seem a bit airheaded but fun. The decor is decent but makes the place look smaller then it really is.

well well well I found decent sushi in Denver, it reminded me of sushi joints that I went to in Japan, they even had a place for you to sit right at the sushi bar, has limited deating so get there early I would recommend. Their rolls were excellent and by far the best ive had in Denver and they give you oranges afterward for free for dessert. I will be coming here again

Sushi Tazu is the first Japanese Sushi place I have been since landing from Tokyo. It is really good food, the service there is warm. The restaurant reminds of places in tokyo where the restaurant is small with a warm feeling. Perfection of the food and service is what a place like Tazu strives to create. Not big fancy places with great deco, just honest food, from honest folks. Good food, reasonable prices! I will always go back to Tazu!

"...ooh, what's that?" I'm not sure how I feel when those words come out of my mouth at a sushi place. However, in this case, it wasn't a bad thing. I like their arrangements and was content with the quality of the fish. The rolls were moderately priced (it IS Cherry Creek) and the variety of stuff was nice. The Spider roll (usually one of my measures for a sushi place) was very downplayed on the menu, much to my displeasure. After I ate a sampler plate (which comes with salad a soup), we ordered a Spider roll to taste it. The flavor was definitely tasty but the portion was small, imo. It could have had a few more pieces. The service was ok...maybe a little neglectful. We sat at the sushi bar so that could have had something to do with it. Initially we were ignored then we got a lot of stuff and attention for a while then they kind of ignored us again. If for some reason you find yourself in Cherry Creek and need sushi then this place is fine. Their outdoor area looked nice and somewhat accomodating. If you want quality sushi and you are willing to wait the extra few minutes, then go elsewhere (not Hapa!!!) like Japon or Sushi Han.

Best sushi I've had in all of Denver! EVERYTHING is fantastic. Decent pricing, especially considering the quality and portions. However, there is ONE DAY OF THE WEEK that the fish is SO/SO. Unfortunately I cannot recall, which day it is. Just ask what day they get their shipments in and, if it's tomorrow, go somewhere else for the day (a decent custome for any sushi place far from he ocean).

This place is too uneven, sometimes a 5-star dinner, other times it's pretty average. Which is too bad, because I really enjoy the atmosphere and when they're on, the traditional sushi is excellent.

While driving around and around Cherry Creek area in the rain, we saw this little sushi place called Sushi Tazu. It was the only asian restaurant we saw (not that we were specifically looking for one). Anyway, it was cold and udon sounded really good to me at the time. 3/4 votes - Majority rules, Tazu wins! From the outside, it seemed a little deserted but when we walked in, it was a packed house. Luckily we beat the dinner rush by 10 minutes. We got seated right away and the waitresses/waiters were very courteous and attentive. I wasn't feeling too adventurous so I just stuck with what I was craving. I ordered a hot bowl of chicken & veggie udon and a spicy yellow tail roll as an appetizer. Both were really great & definitely hit the spot. I also picked at my friend's sizzling beef plate. The beef was real chunky and tender. I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to find a decent restaurant while not knowing the area at all. I wanna give Tazu a 3.5 out of 5 stars but I rounded up to 4 because of the good service AND the workers were all Japanese which made it seem more "authentic".

I went to this place on Wednesday night and it was pretty busy. I was seated right away and my drink order was taken quickly also. I had the spicy tuna roll and a lobster tempura roll and another roll with scallops. The rolls were good and big also. So big I could only fit them standing up in the soy sauce container. I would definitely go back to try other items on the menu. The staff was very friendly and prices reasonable.

Not good rolls. No description of what is in each roll. Only good thing was the mussels, we told them to bake the dynamite sauce on them.

SERVICE IS MEDIOCRE BUT.... the decor of this place is badass! it's very old school Japanese, makes me feel like I'm at home! GREAT sake selection, and the quality of this fish is pretty up to par! A great hole in the wall, isn't quite as busy as some other japanese places but still feels pretty exclusive. I'm Japanese and I was always impressed with this place, definitely come check this place out and come to your own conclusion. You really can't go wrong with anything off of the menu here! Kanpai beeeotches!!!!

I dropped by to grab some quick sushi while on a break from work and was so happy I did. The service was great, very kind and and attentive. The roll I ordered had salmon and was topped with jalapenos. The flavors blended perfectly and was not dominated by too much rice like so many other sushi spots. I will def bring friends here so I can order more rolls without feeling like a fatty haha.

Look, parking sucks, but this place has pretty good sushi! Okay, the bentos were far from rockin, but they have brown rice option for everything. I am not a big brown rice fan, but my sister in law prefers it (better for digestion) and I must say, theirs was cooked perfectly in my opinion. Tempura shrimp roll was extremely tasty and their tamago and inari were perfect. This my friends, will be my new gold standard for these sushi rolls. Some of my friends laugh at how I critique sushi on how they season and proportion their rice. I always say that real sushi chefs know how to use that sweet rice vinegar. I am not too picky about the fish quality, as long as it has a nice flavor and consistency (within normal limits) and does not taste like the sea itself (just plain salty and old) or make me vomit later. ** Let's all pray and hope that I get to hit this spot again before I leave back to Cali...

While a tad more generous with the fish during regular pricing, Tazu becomes solely a purveyor of rice during their so called discounted late night sushi. Upon hearing about their specials, we specifically sought out Tazu over several other establishments--sorry we did. The staff was incredibly nice, probably amused by us non-regulars who ordered off the infamous late night menu, which was discounted down to what every other sushi house, including Sushi Den charges regularly. We ordered several different tunas sashimi style, each piece priced between $2 and $3.50 a piece, which was a small, thin slice. Only the $3.50 a slice Binchot was fresh. The fatty tunas were old, and disappointing. The Dynomite was overcooked and chewy, and a sin at $10 We also ordered several different rolls, however, each rolls looked alike; all rice--no fish !!! 1 round of drinks set us back almost $20, and I didn't even get a glass of wine..that's right, 1 weak-ass V & T, and 1 beer was just shy of a Twenty. So, what was our total? $60 before tip, that's right, 60 bucks for basically rice -- Well Tazu, you got over on us that 1 time, but never again. We'll stick with the Sushi Den, and perhaps follow the Yelp Tip and try Japon. See ya, Tazu

Have you ever walked into a restaurant where you are greeted with a very large HELLO! That's Sushu Tazu. Great folks here. I grew up in Boston and went to Cheers once. Well, the greeting at Tazu was better. Maybe not as good as the TV show, but I liked it. Had the best piece of fatty tuna here and their seaweed salad rocks.

The sushi was alright - I wasn't overly disappointed or impressed by anthing I had. I will say that the wait staff that night was far from pleasant. We left half ful Sapporos in order to go somewhere where the wait staff was a little more helpful.

I've heard from my Japanese friends that this place is the most authentic, there was a lot of Japanese hot food on the menu but nothing that I haven't seen anywhere else. I had just standard stuff salmon, yellow tail, octopus, scallops, and a roll. first thing i noticed was everything was .50-$1 more then where I normally go so i figured it must be really good. Everything tasted fresh and was of good quality. the one thing I didn't like was there was only 2 word descriptions of the rolls.. this is why.. I ordered a Saigon roll the description was shrimp and tuna. so I get a roll that has Spanish rice a piece of shrimp tempura and tuna wrapped in a soft spring roll wrapper. not what I was expecting but it was ok. I would have rather not had a surprise or know what I was getting into. the other thing is the soy sauce is kiko man or something really salty. I like at Japon they use low sodium and marinate their own soy sauce there and it tastes 10x better. I cant stand going into a sushi bar and not seeing a single Japanese person behind the bar. Maybe because it was lunch time, but when I go out for Indian I was an Indian person cooking it, when I go out for Thai.. I want a Thai person cooking it, French Italian whatever.. maybe thats being a little to nit picky, but if its supposed to be authentic then... last thing I'm all for networking but the bar was cluttered business cards and wine tents and advertising all over the place it looked really tacky. and thats my thorough review! ;-)

This place actually had decent food, but the service is possibly one of the worst I have ever had. We had four different servers approach us within 5 minutes, all doing or asking the same thing. When I finally asked for just 1 server, we actually got a great girl who really knew what she was talking about and doing. Then the "train-ee" bringing our food started freaking out and yelling at both customers and other staff. She lost it for over 10 minutes and I finally asked that she not return to our table or we would leave. The rest of the meal was ok, but after all that had gone wrong I was definatly ready to leave. Good for a quick sushi meal, not good for a quiet, intimate dinner

I know..... it is called a "Sushi" place..... I looked at their menu, they had tons of varieties of sushi..... so... the sushi menu looked good. But, when I walked up to the sushi bar, the fish didn't look too fresh to me, so I didn't really want anything raw in this case. I was craving for Japanese noodles anyways.... so I ordered the Nabeyaki udon I was disappointed when I saw how it was served... Definition of "Nabeyaki udon - A sort of udon hot-pot, with seafood and vegetables cooked in a nabe, or metal pot. The most common ingredients are tempura shrimp with mushrooms and an egg cracked on top. " -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udon Well, the soup was good. However, I was very disappointed that the egg was a hard boiled egg.... that's not how it's supposed to be .... there was no veggie of any sorts... no mushrooms too. Only one shrimp tempura.... The portion was very small. Look, I am a girl... and it didn't fill me up... if you eat a lot, forget about ordering a $15 noodle soup that doesn't fill you up for lunch It was the worst Nabeyaki udon I have ever had in my life.... well, so far! But, the waitstaff seems friendly.... and it's a nice, clean, little place in Cherry Creek.... The place looks cute. so ... I give 2 stars for those.

A friend and I went out to dinner Saturday night and didn't really have anything specific in mind. We drove to Cherry Creek and walked around. We saw Sushi Tazu and decided to check it out. Even though it was busy, we immediately sat down at the sushi counter. We each ordered a house salad to start. Tasty salad. Fresh greens. Good dressing. We split the following: Rainbow Roll, Shrimp Tempura, and California Roll. All of them were delicious. My favorite was the California Roll (even though I love shrimp). The Shrimp Tempura Roll had lettuce in it, which I thought was unusual. And typically, Shrimp Tempura rolls have some sort of mayo in them... this one didn't. I thought something was missing from it. The Rainbow Roll was quite interesting. It had different types of fish on top of a California Roll. It was a little pricy for what you got... California Roll by itself was $6 or $7, but the Rainbow Roll cost $14.00. If I go back, I will try the Chicken Tempura Roll. If you're looking for a quieter restaurant, I would not recommend Sushi Tazu. But if you don't mind a little noise and a busy atmosphere, try it out!

I enjoy this place. The seating is a little close and the service can lack sometimes, but the food can really saki to ya. Then after you eat they give you a cut up orange which I really like because I am into vitamin c.

Great little sushi joint in Cherry Creek area. Even on a Sunday night when the rest of the area was dead the restaurant had a good crowd. The peeps are friendly and the menu has plenty of choices (both fancy stuff and the basics).

We have been here about 10 times in the past few years, and 2 years ago we had a bad experience and haven't gone back until Sept. 09. I know we liked it at some point, or we would not have ever returned, but after this last time, never again. Given the strain the dismal economy has put on us, and most people, we rarely eat out any more, so this was our "once in 3 months" meal out. I must stress that the staff was gracious and accommodating, but the food was very unpleasant. The edamame and miso soup were the best part of our meal. The veggie/garlic goyza were terrible, way undercooked (as in gooey and sticky) and the garlic was too strong, overwhelming actually (and we love garlic). The spicy tuna roll seemed like it was just very poor quality fish sort of mushed up into the roll. The other rolls were tolerable (avocado, shrimp tempura, and California) but nothing noteworthy, I've had better rolls from the Whole Foods deli, certainly not worth the price. By the time we ate the rolls, and picked at the gooey goyza, we both had stomach aches and just wanted to go home. And the stomach aches lasted through the night. Certainly not worth the $70 (and we still gave a 20% tip because the staff was great). We were frustrated we had to not only pay for bad food that made us feel terrible, what really topped it off was that we were celebrating something special, and chose to spend our hard earned "working 4 jobs between us" money on this place! I will pay more for better sushi at Sushi Den, or better yet drive to Aspen for Takah Sushi!

Discovered this little gem a few months ago. The place has excellent, creative sushi, good service, and very importantly... that rockin' sushi house vibe. Everyone is in there having a good ole' time and eatin' good sushi. Love it! I'm a big Japon fan, but this place may just beat them out in my book. It's waaaaaaay better then Sushi Den, at the very least.

I as well took advantage of the Groupon, $10 for a $25 gift certificate. I love sushi and thought this would be a good opportunity to try some place new. Service was good, the restaurant has a nice feel, but the fish was marginal at best. Its a given that its going to be tough to get really fresh tasting fish in CO, that being said, I have been pleased with the quality at several area sushi places. Not this one...yellow tail, salmon, tuna - not a good piece of any of them. The eel was chewy. They had a yellowtail collar special which was way overcooked. I would go to Sushi Den, Taki Sushi, or Mt. Fuji any day over Sushi Tazu...

I always come back here for the Tropicana roll: salmon, avocado, mango puree, lemon. I've probably eaten here about 5 times and felt only once that the fish was not the freshest.

I was looking for a fun place to go for a birthday dinner and chose Sushi Tazu. They have a small outdoor seating area with heat lamps, as well as a small seating area inside. We chose to sit outside. That part was fine. However, I was really dissapointed overall by the restaurant. My birthday dinner company was great, but you can't write a review (at least not really) on the person you went to dinner with...so-- Sushi Tazu wasn't great! The service was slow at first, and the servers were confused about who ordered what-- they brought the wrong food to our table twice. Then, they esentially brought all of our appetizers, soup, salad and sushi at the same time, and seemed frustrated that we didn't have anywhere to put the plates. I really don't appreciate having my dinner brought out before the appetizers (or simultaneously). They forgot we ordered sake too, which wasn't fun. It just seemed chaotic and messy. The food itself was good, but not spectacular. I've had better sushi. and better sushi places. The more think about it, the more I might have to change this to a "2 star" review... just because you are located in Cherry Creek and won an award in 2005, doesn't automatically make you a great place to eat.

My wife had a day off and decided to meet me for lunch. We attempted to go to Hapa Sushi, but parking was a major pain. Instead, we found parking around Sushi Tazu. It was a nice day, so we sat outside. We were met and served our drinks quickly and then what to eat? My wife decided on the Rainbow Veggie roll and she love Onigiri, so decided to have the Yaki Onigiri. I am a fan of Oyako Don and will try it at any restaurant that serves it. I ordered the Oyako Don and a rainbow roll. Our sushi came out fairly quickly and the rolls were well done and larger than other rolls I have had at other sushi restaurants. The fish was good and the roll inside was excellent. My wife's veggie roll was also very good and tasty. Then the oyako don came. It looked good, but was only average. The sauce did not have the usual taste being bland instead of the usual sweet. The chicken was good. My wife felt that the Onigiri needed some salted plum in the middle, otherwise they were pretty plain tasting like burnt rice. However, she absolutely loved the various pickles. For the price, I would have liked a more authentic oyako don. I will come back to sample more sushi.

I love a good beverage and dios mio their sake, chu-hai and shouchu list were a bit pricey. I went during one of the Happy Hours (Sunday 12-6pm) but it really didnt' seem like it. Lunch was around $33 per person. Sushi was quite tasty, we had Ama-Ebi, Anago, Crab Leg, Maguro, Hamachi, Salmon and the basic Cal. Roll. We also ordered the Ocean Vegie Salad, Crab and Creamed Corn Croquette and my ultimate favorite Japanese dish Tatsu-Age (fried chicken). I was a bit disappointed with the Tatsu-Age since they were fried little drumsticks... I prefer them without the bones so you can experience more meat.

I hovered between three and four stars for a minute there, but when I began reminiscing on last night's dining experience I settled on three. When we walked in the restaurant they shouted some type of Japanese greeting at us and that set the tune for the night. Lots of yelling. Every time a dish was ready they shouted at the servers and the servers shouted back "HAI, Coming!!" -sometimes almost in my ear. We picked a bad place to sit at the sushi bar, as the servers reached over us several times to grab plates. I saw them bringing hot cloths to other tables, but I had to ask them to bring ours. The miso was good, but I found myself wishing they had put seaweed in it. The seaweed salad and all of the sushi were very good. We also ordered rice balls with oshinko, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The green tea was good and they refilled it pretty regularly. When we got the $60 (no drinks except green tea) bill my boyfriend asked me if I felt like I'd had a $30 a piece meal. I couldn't answer yes.

The only reason why I came back here was I forgot bad the service is. I walked in by myself (was on a business trip) and sat down at the bar. No one brought me a menu for 10 minutes. Finally got the menu, ordered, and waited, and waited, and waited... I got my food about 40 minutes later. While waiting, I heard a couple next to me ask the server "you didn't forget about us, did you?" I don't get it. This is not a big place. Since I had so much time just waiting around, I actually counted the number of tables that were occupied. 10 tables. 3 servers. 3 chefs behind the counter. 40 minute wait for the food for someone sitting at the bar??? It's sushi and sashimi for crying out loud. Anyway, silver-lining was that the food was actually pretty decent. I normally don't knock a place because of service but this place was bad enough for me to make an exception. Prepare to wait if you are going to go here. And if the place is full when you walk in, I would turn around and go find another place to eat.

i go to them all and this one kicks tail. salmon tail in fact. yes, "the den" is supposed to be the best in denver, but having eaten at both places hundreds of times, i can tell you this. there is never a wait at sushi tazu and the sushi is just as good. here is the secret addiction: sit at the bar and get the little seaweed salad. save the saucer of liquid once you are done eating the little chunks of octopus (i think it is called "hotosi sauce" if you need extra). order a few pieces of salmon sushi with extra lemon slices. squeeze lemon juice all over the salmon till saturated. dip each piece in the saucer of left-over seaweed salad dressing, throw the whole thing in your mouth and savor the orgasm. enough said.

Great. Good as always, but today even though it is slow, the service is horrible. Don't always have the best service, but today it is noticeably bad. Had food served without silverware or napkins. Then we had to explain why we needed three sets of silverware vs two, even though there are three people at the table. After a few tries they finally got it right, but why should we have to explain why each person needs silverware at the table?

Loved this place! Excellent service! Went on a Friday night pretty early so we beat the rush, and it was packed by the time we left. Love the fresh oranges at the end of the meal! Only down point is the bathrooms location, you have to go through the server well, but other than that amazing!

Been here a couple times and I've neverhad a bad experience so far. The sushi wasn't the best I've ever had but it's a nice atmosphere and our service was great! The owner offered us free green tea ice cream for dessert but we were so full!

I am so surprised to see all these bad reviews on here. My husband and I have been coming here for years and the food did not disappoint today! I love the small, intimate setting and the great energy in this restaurant. We came for lunch today and I got the teriyaki grilled calamari bento box. It is so hard to find good, grilled calamari in Denver. There's is AMAZING. Huge, fresh, perfectly grilled pieces of calamari and I am in heaven! We also got some sashimi that was perfectly cut and just melted in our mouths. YUM! I would highly recommend coming here.

We eat sushi fairly often, not just at home in Denver, but also in other cities. Last night was the worst. It's October and chilly in the evening but the door was open with an ineffective heater in the doorway. We were cold. We ordered platters. The nigiri sushi came out of the refrigerator pre-made, cold, the fish and the rice. The prices are fairly high in this restaurant and I was appalled that we didn't get fresh sushi. I complained, so we were offered sashimi and that was also dry and refrigerator temperature. The Saki prices are outrageous and I didn't pay close enough attention, so I ended up with a box of Saki for $17. With tip we spent $90 for two for horrible experience. Denver has many fine Japanese restaurants and we've been to quite a few. Go somewhere else!!!

Terrible customer service, the service was slow and unprofessional. What a disappoint to choose a terrible restaurant on my birthday. The quality of the sushi is very low grade and does not taste good at all. The waitress also had an attitude when I asked her to repeat something and could barely speak English. Also this restaurant is very overpriced. I can guarantee that whole foods and king sooppers has better tasting sushi and sashimi! I'll never go back

It's been here a long while. Obviously, to be here for so long they know what to do to succeed in business. Sushi is nicely prepared. The only drawback is that the restaurant is extremely small and even with the patio dining, it still remains a small restaurant. Parking of course in Cherry Creek is an issue.

This place is a hidden treasure! The price is great, the service is fast and the sushi is one of the best I've had in 14 years of living in Denver! The deep fried roll was amazing!

Great fish quality and presentation. The food was fresh and tasty. Definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in Denver.

I love the neighborhood feel of this place and the service is spectacular. We will most definitely be back, but I'm not sure if this place is craveworthy. So far Sushi Den is still my fave, but it is also at a different price point so it might not be a fair comparison unless price is no object. It should be mentioned that portion sizes are large here, so a piece of sashimi here is twice the size of Sushi Den's and markedly less expensive. The menu is extensive and we had simple fare (nigiri, jalapeno sashimi, udon miso, spicy tuna, mile high roll), so I'll definitely be adding to this review as we try more menu items in the future.

This was our third visit for lunch using a $20 Google Offers coupon. We discovered 2 free parking spaces marked for Sushi Tazu in the lot behind the restaurant. It was in the 50's today and people were dining in the enclosed patio area. We dined inside. We ordered the Spider Roll, California Roll, and the Philadelphia Roll. I was disappointed that we did not get the complimentary seaweed salad on this visit. I guess it depends on the server. The Spider Roll came out first on a small plate without any wasabi or ginger. My husband would not start eating until he got wasabi and the server was no where to be found. The 5 pieces were more than bite-sized with seaweed on the outside. Lettuce and daikon sprouts were sticking out which made the roll visually appealing. The soft shell crab was crisp and not gritty. There was even tobiko on the inside. The server brought the California Roll and the Philadelphia Roll out on a plate with the wasabi and ginger and a garnish of lemon slice. Now my husband could start eating. The California Roll had tobiko on the outside. The 8 pieces were bite-sized. The fillings were generous and there wasn't too much rice. The Philadelphia Roll wasn't as good as last time, but still good. This roll also had tobiko on the inside and sesame seeds on the outside. The server brought us complimentary sliced oranges for dessert and finally a refill of water. No complimentary green tea ice cream this time or last time. I would order all 3 rolls again.

Coming from LA, the bar is high for sushi done right. I definitely enjoyed the quality and value of lunch with the wife.

This is my sushi joint when I'm back home in Denver. The spot is cozy, the fish is solid with reasonable prices, and the staff is super friendly, almost to the point of adorable. They have the best steamed yellowtail collar - bar none. My friends and I always get it salted with NO sauce, and sometimes order them two at a time (one feeds about 2-3 people). It's that good. Tazu is also the only place that I've ever come across that has wasabi tabiko. If you can take spice, order a round to start. It'll clear your palette, possibly other ailments, before you get down on your meal.

one star is for the free salad and ice cream. The ingredients are not fresh, that kinda kill the point of sushi. I had to use the bathroom in the middle of my meal....The didn't clean the mackerel thoroughly, certain internal parts/blood were left in the fish and it tastes yucky even when it's grilled. I am sorry but I think Kingsoopers make fresher sushi.

I can't believe that I uploaded pictures of the wonderful dinner that I had @ Sushi Tazu, but didn't write a review! I was in Denver on business on a couple of occasions & I ate at Sushi Tazu both times. The sushi was fresh, flavorful and the rolls were generous proportions. The seaweed salad proportions were also generous, and I liked the sliced oranges dessert that was served after the meal. The wait staff was very friendly and prompt with beverage refills. The interior of Sushi Tazu was dimly lit and had a nice ambiance. It was quite crowded both times I was there and I took a seat at the sushi bar to avoid a long wait for a table.

Most authentic sushi restaurant in Denver! We love sushi and have spent time in Japan. We really love this place. The service is also great! There is a nice patio for summer months.

I wasn't planning on eating sushi for lunch on Saturday - but after walking around Cherry Creek for some time, this looked like the most appealing option. Plus, I like to eat sushi in every major city I visit. I walked in and asked the hostess if this place is any good (yes, I know she's going to be biased - but I asked anyways). She said it's one of the three best places in Denver. Things started off well when they brought my miso soup. It was a little better than most miso soups I've had at other places; there were actually some goodies in it. I went to town on the menu. Anything I hadn't had before, I ordered. And some stuff I have. Uni and halibut sashimi, fatty red snapper, a few clam/scallop varieties, young yellowtail, mackerel, fish liver, and several other things. The nigiri was actually nicely garnished; most places seem to just place a slab of fish on rice. The uni was nice and fresh. Everything tasted great. The highlight for me was the fish liver, which I had never seen before, and tasted surprisingly delicious. The sushi was also served with fresh wasabi, which I didn't even have to ask for. Nice. After I knocked down a whole bunch of sushi and sashimi, I noticed the "live scallops" special. I asked the chef what that meant, and while it didn't mean they were literally alive when served, they did sound sufficiently delicious, and still extremely fresh. They delivered on both accounts. This place is pretty awesome if you're the type of sushi eater I am, and you just like to try all kinds of interesting things (the chef even noted how interesting my choices were!). They set a pretty high bar, and "top 3 in Denver" certainly seems like a possibility (now I need to move to Denver and find out).

Love this place. The quality and freshness is amazing. Favorites include the rainbow roll, Saigon roll, and all of shashimi. You will be happy you went.

I went for lunch, and tried the beef lunch box with ginger sauce and brown rice. The miso soup was good, the salad was pretty good too. The ginger sauce was tasty, but the meat wasn't very good (I thought it was an average cut of meat that was a bit overcooked). Overall, I felt pretty ambivalent about the meal. It would have been better priced at $7-8, but take into account the Cherry Creek factor and the $11 lunch box isn't a great deal. On the plus side, the staff was very attentive and friendly.

Fantastic food, and definitely the most authentic sushi experience in the area. Wait staff is attentive, friendly and actually remembers you (particularly Keiko, who is the nicest person), and the menu includes not only basic sushi and interesting new rolls, but also a ton of great japanese izakaya foods and regional entrees. And you have to love going to a Japanese restaurant where you hear the staff actually speaking Japanese. Highly recommended.

The absolutely worst sushi Ive ever had. One of the rolls came covered in Parmesan cheese, GROSS! Also, one of the sauces smelled like dog food. My husband ended up puking because the smell was so horrendous.

I love sushi and I don't think I have ever been to a bad sushi restaurant in my life. That is, until I tried Sushi Tazu. They have the WORST SUSHI EVER. I don't have any clue how anyone in the world could actually give this place a decent review. The sushi is of extremely poor quality, it's not fresh at all, and every single roll I had was bland, swimming in some nasty sauce, and/or overloaded with rice. Also, while I typically try not to put any kind of soy sauce on my sushi unless it's needed, soy sauce was very much needed at Sushi Tazu, but they didn't have any soy sauce in the whole restaurant. Oh, they had watered down, low sodium soy sauce, but since the sushi was so bland, I needed some regular soy sauce, but none was to be found anywhere. How does a place serve monkfish liver that doesn't taste like fish or liver? You would seriously have to try pretty hard to make ankimo bland, yet it doesn't seem a problem for Sushi Tazu. Also, the service was very lackluster, and it seemed as if our waitress had never waited tables before. She was completely inattentive and somewhat awkward. We didn't even have a sushi menu until about 20 minutes after being seated. Overall, the most disappointing aspect of the entire evening was the simple fact that I could have gone to the Whole Foods down the street or Sprouts or Target or Kingsoopers and gotten at least the same quality of sushi, maybe even better. There are far better sushi options in the Denver area, so go try somewhere decent like Sushi Den or Sasa. One additional note. I did like one thing about the restaurant. They have one of those cool Japanese toilets that I have heard about and have been wanting to see and use, and it's totally cool. Of course, it's pretty shitty when the toilet is the best part about a restaurant.

Little bit on the pricier side but their sushi is delicious. Best sushi roll is Dragon Roll with warm melted cheese on top. Om nom nom.

Make sure you check your bill when you go here, the waitress charged me a tip more than what I put and I already tipped 20%!!! Good thing I keep every receipt. I just wonder how many other people they are scamming. I do not trust this place and I'll never be back.

Nice folks, decent food but not a fav. I've been spoiled by J-nese restaurants on the west coast I'm afraid and Tazu's take on Zaru soba and Saba shio suffers badly in comparison. One unacceptable fail for any J-nese restaurant is hard shari or sushi rice. I guess there is a reason true sushi masters take years to learn this basic skill.

Very good sushi and some unique rolls. That really sums it up. There isn't really anything that extraordinary, but if consistently good sushi is what your after, you can't go wrong here. Service is attentive and friendly. Give it a try. I think you'll like it...

This is our favorite place for late night sushi. The sashimi and sushi are always good. Love their green tea. Enjoy their miso soup and green tea ice cream. What really makes it special for us, however, is the service. We have been lucky to have the same guy wait on us while sitting at the sushi bar each time...he does a great job making us feel really special..everyone there is down to earth, friendly, and so fun! We go pretty regularly (either Friday or Saturday late night), so maybe see you there!

I finally went here for a second time tonight. I was a bit underwhelmed, but then like many things. The first time we went were over the moon, but I think that is because they had live scallops on special. Live scallops are so yummy they just make me like any place that has them. Jalapeno Sashimi - No quite like what I've had before. There are other times when HUGE pieces of fish would excite me, but it seemed overwhelming. I was only ok with the fish quality. Rolls - Well I don't tend to like rolls so it was unfortunate that my friend wanted them. Grant it, she mixed wasabi with soy sauce so she isn't that seasoned of a sushi eater. They were ok, but I really am not using the rolls in my rating as I'm not a roll person. Roe - I asked for it in cucumber bowls instead of sushi style. Instead of giving me the hollowed out cucumber that I usually see they just twisted small pieces of cucumber slices into bowls. They fell apart and had a strange citrus flavor. It was great to get both regular and wasabi roe. Saki - They had a good selection and I enjoyed the one she recommended. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have sparkling sake. Service - Our server and other staff were fantastic. I even had the chance to observe her with the next table over while i was waiting for my friend and she was so gracious, knowledgeable and attentive. The over all impression was good, but not great. You won't go wrong here, but don't expect to be blown away.

Absolutely terrible!!! I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. Over priced, service was slower than molasses on a cold day and the sushi wasn't good. The salmon skin roll was bad, I don't mean made poorly but it smelled rotten like the fish has turned. I will not return.

Everybody loves free stuff ehh? We were warmly welcomed to the restaurant with some green tea and a smile. On any cold winter day you would appreciate a nice bowl of miso soup and hot tea. Both these items were complementary and i give them complements for the effort to bring us back. We ordered something off of the lunch special menu. We ordered eel battered in egg over rice. A very nice country style Japanese dish served with a side of sashimi. Fresh and delicious... check. Complementary green tea ice cream too!... check

Wow. I used to really like this place. I went with a friend and we had this sad sad meal. The fish lacked flavor. Mayonnaise, everywhere. It's the only time I've EVER left a sushi restaurant with food on the table. I'm very sad for them. I don't know what happened here.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. It is fresh, affordable, especially for Cherry Creek, and the service is excellent. While waiting in line a gentleman told me he's had sushi all over, including Japan, and this is the best in Denver. The rolls are unique and delicious. I love them all, I can't ever decide what I want. The chef has daily specials that are out of this world. I love taking friends here and they are always impressed, as I am every time I dine there.

Small selection of rolls, friendly server, but bait and switch on the prices, leading to a more expensive evening than anticipated. I partook of the groupon earlier this month - $10 for $25 at Tazu. We decided to use it for our anniversary dinner. Yeah romance! We made a reservation for 6pm, arrived right on time and had no trouble being seating. We received a number of menus - specialties and the sushi list (it was blue). We went with: Tuna - very good Salmon - very good Egg - very good Eel - mmm! tasty! Spicy Tuna Roll - so so - i'd skip it Crunchy crab roll - sooooo good! Volcano roll - takes a long time to come out and not that good - skip it Excalibur roll - similar to Vietnamese fried spring roll - tasty - not worth $8 We also got Edamame - at $5 - say what? Happa and Xengo at least have a tasty sauce and deliver a ton more... Don't bother. When we received our bill it seemed excessive and i I noticed the list i filled out with our sushi choices was not what was attached to the bill. Then I noticed that the list had different pricing for the Nigiri... sigh. The original list I filled out said $2 a piece, the list attached to the bill had everything at $5 per 2 pieces, except for the eel which was 5.50. According to my math - which i didn't get to verify till i got home we paid an extra $7 - which is almost a whole roll! Poor math would have been fine, but a bait and switch with menus is pretty crappy. I wont be back.

3.5 staff was friendly cute little space that I had never noticed before I ordered a tropicana roll, which I thought would come with mango on top, but it is actually a mango puree. No big deal. I was not offered seaweed salad or green tea ice cream as others have mentioned so not sure if that has stopped or if my waitress forgot to ask.

Great little sushi place in Cherry Creek, especially if you don't like the lines at Sushi Den and other Denver sushi hotspots in Denver. Tazu always delivers amazingly creative rolls in a cozy setting. My favorite is the Saigon roll: shrimp and yellow fin wrapped like a fresh spring roll served with a side of chili oil. So unique and fresh! Service here is always efficient and courteous and the atmosphere is one of fun and energy. Definitely great for a mid shopping lunch or fun dinner out.

If you ask me what I'm in the mood for 99% of the time I'll say sushi. I'm kinda a sushi addict. OK, not kinda. My name is Andrea and I"m a sushiholic. So when Tiffany C asked me what I was in the mood for I said "sushi!" An hour later we pulled up to Sushi Tazu for a late lunch...so late that we were actually the last table they served for the afternoon. I ordered one of the lunch specials. Assorted Deluxe meal 6 pieces of chef's selection sushi and 3pc each spicy tuna & cucumber roll. Also served with sushi bar salad & miso soup. All that sushi goodness for $14.50. They served us rather quickly (probably so they could go home) and the fish was nice and fresh. The tuna was especially good. And while it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had (Sushi Den is better) it totally satisfied my addiction.

I am here in Denver on business and was craving sushi as usual. This restaurant had a quaint neighborhood vibe - many of the patrons were recognized by the staff, which is a good sign! The sushi bar was very cluttered with containers and struck me as disorganized. I asked the server for a sake recommendation and tried the Purple Haze. It was delish! The sushi was fresh and artfully prepared. I was very impressed with how pretty it was. I branched away from my usual and tried the Halibut and Monk Fish Liver, I wasn't crazy about the Monk Fish Liver, but that is me. The Sweet Shrimp was... well... sweet and delicious. The shrimp tempura and tuna combo came without seaweed and were served with fish sauce to dip. This was excellent. I also had the Seaweed salad. A little on the oily side for my taste. All in all the was a good experience and i would recommend you go!

Love love love. The sushi was fresh and fantastic. Under the guidance of someone who lived in Japan for a long time, my experience was certain to be happy. I loved how small and authentic this little place in Cherry Creek felt. The preparation of the sushi was close no matter if you were sitting at the bar or at a table. You felt like you were IN the kitchen. I also loved the bathroom.( No..really..I almost took a picture of the toilet. Heated seat and bidet. I almost wanted to stay in there. But my really cute date was waiting for me, so I had to leave.) The servers were friendly...your every wish granted.

This place isn't bad. Its very small inside and outside, so we just sat on the patio. The sushi is normal. Not bad, but not Sushi Den. The tempura was pretty yummy :) And what I liked was right when they bring out the water, the bring out a seaweed salad mixed with calamari, complimentary. It was delicious! I'll be back soon! Also, ask for Nikki! She's great. Because the rest of the girls there, aren't that nice.

Seeeeeeaweed salad, yeah! Awesome staff and fantastic food (the lunch specials are the best). As others have mentioned they have a selection of lunch specials which are sure to keep you full until dinner time unlike some other sushi places. Oh and their bathrooms are very European *wink wink*

Sushi Tazu is more of a traditional sushi spot, gives me the feeling of eating sushi that I had in Japan. The place is small and cramped but that adds to the ambiance of this gem. Their rolls are average but the sashimi is above par! Their service is friendly and quick. If you're looking for a more traditional sushi restaurant, this place is for you!

I have only been eating sushi for about seven years. And probably the only reason I started eating it is because of my Japanese wife. Since she got me started I have learned to appreciate the subtle nuances in flavors of raw fish. Sushi Tazu has quickly become my favorite sushi restaurant . I traveled to Japan a few years ago and I have to say Tazu reminds me of the sushi places I visited while there. The wait staff is friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. I would say the price is reasonable and you get a good portion of food. My only complaint is, the last two times I've been there I have noticed they have a Mexican sushi chef. I'm not racist but I want a Japanese guy making my sushi. They still have their original chef but now they've added the Mexican. Aside from that this is still a great place for good sushi. I highly recommend it.

Quite possibly the worst sushi experience EVER! While I knew the roll selection would be lackluster, I did take note of the variety of veggies they offer inside the rolls, and decided to start with the veggie tempura. Much to my surprise/horror, I was served a tempura battered piece if celery pared with a dry and withered wedge of lemon. Having had it's redeeming attributes stripped away, the celery was no longer cool, crisp, and refreshing, rather the frying process had turned it slimy, fiberous, and limp. But still, it was not enough to kill my hopes for decent sushi in the ethnic wasteland called cherry creek. The sushi itself was...whatever. Whether it was hacked with a dull blade or prepared by a novice, it certainly was not aesthetically pleasing. Unlike most food, I feel that sushi is first consumed with the eye. Which is why most sushi chefs are such perfectionists. Details, details, details. But, I was also blessed with a sense of taste and although the food did not taste bad, and the fish was fresh, the execution was poor. The real punch in the face (other than the bill) came with the tamago, leathery and over cooked on the outside and greenish-grey on the inside. Yes, greenish-grey. I'm curious how to change egg from a rich yellow to a putrefied green but Sushi Tazu has perfected this technique. And now, the service...The staff was friendly enough, and I'm sure my annoyance was shining through at dinner so I don't fault them too much for avoiding my table. However it wasn't until I called for my server from across the patio -literally top of my voice- that I was able to procure napkins, chopsticks, soy sauce, soy sauce bowls, water, and side plates. All this AFTER I had eaten my tempura starter, approximately 20 minutes after I was seated. All said, if Sushi Tazu were located on east colfax I would not be nearly as offended by it's existance, being that it is in the heart of cherry creek, it should be better. The prices are on par with any good sushi restaurant here in town, so spend the gas and have a great sushi dinner ELSEWHERE.

Terrible. The restaurant was freezing cold, the service wasn't great, and the food was terrible. The sushi was thin and dry and the rolls were strange. And it was all over priced. With all of the great sushi places in denver skip this one.

Great service, fun atmosphere, delicious seaweed salad and really great sushi. The fancy fusion sushi places are entertaining, but this place is my favorite in Denver so far. It's not pretentious, it's delicious, it's a fun place to take your friends, and a good place for a date. Dee-lish.

I LOVE sushi and am not very snobby on my sushi. Service: VERY VERY attentive, to the point were the boyfriend and i couldn't hold a conversation because we kept getting int erupted by three different waitress'. Food: Definitely not a fan (maybe I came on a bad day); rolls kept falling apart & very bland. Left a bad taste in my mouth: I love sushi, but don't like wasabi (not a spicy person) On the Nigiri between the rice and fish they put a large dollop of wasabi. I was not pleased at all to be surprised with this and had a hard time enjoying the rest of my meal. (Just let your customers know if it will have wasabi on it) Overall i will spend my money elsewhere and i don't plan on going back :(

I have been here twice. First time was about 2 years ago on March, second time was this past Monday. My review is based only on this past experience. To drink i had and Iced Green tea which was good with lots of sugar i had to add lol and my boyfriend had a lemonade which looked fresh squeeze so it looked good. I had a salmon and avocado roll which i always and by always i mean always have when i eat sushi. Well they forgot to add the Avocado to the salmon roll so theres that. The place seemed like it had been busy before we got there since there were only 2 clean tables inside and they were being used, so we waited for one to be buss(no so much of a problem) My other roll which had Eel and avocado with the sweet teryaky sauce was good, better then the Plain Salmon. Took a lil longer then 5 min for our server to come ask if we needed any drinks and then about another 5 to put our order in. Over all i liked the food and the place but its nothing so great to brag about as I would about hap a who has that delicious Multiple Orgasim. Im sure we will return here and maybe try something different and have better luck then paying $11 for 3 pieces of tempura shrimp with rice.

This place needs a better overall rating, because it deserves one. This is the first place I ever went to eat sushi, many years ago, and it remains my favorite still today. I like the small size of this place, it keeps it more intimate with the sushi bar and chefs, which is nice. It has a completely different atmosphere and feel to it than Sushi Den, so if you are expecting that feel, then this place might not be for you. As far as the food goes, I love the Unagi Roll, which is always my favorite order here. They are huge rolls, too! Hard to even pop the whole thing in your mouth at once. I have tried the Vegetable Tempura and the Udon, both very delicious as well. Also, get a pot of house green tea with your meal! One of my most favorite parts of the meal though, is the fact that when your bill comes they give you a half of an orange as a "dessert mint". It is so fantastic.

Nothing about this place said "amazing" to me. That is, except for some deep-fried dish they prepared while we sat at the sushi bar. It was sort of hideous, actually, but in a really funny way. I took a couple pictures, which you can see in the photos for Tazu. Check em out: yelp.com/biz_photos/L0HO… and yelp.com/biz_photos/L0HO… . Whoa! Otherwise, I thought this place was okay. The sushi was fine and moderately priced. The location is convenient to Cherry Creek, if that's your thing.

No, no, no! I would give zero stars if I could. No amount of free salad or ice cream makes up for old, poorly prepared sushi (aka what you came there to actually purchase). The use of imitation crab meat puts the final nail in the coffin for me. You are better off grabbing sushi from whole foods or even king soopers.

Best sushi in Denver by far. Not pretentious. Average price. Freshest fish made by true Japanese traditionalists!

I like fish. And I like it raw. I had lived in Denver exactly 5 days when I visited Tazu last week. I picked up my girlfriend from the JW Marriott and were looking for a quieter spot to catch up and be able to hear ourselves think (which is why we didn't visit the more popular Sushi Den or Happa Sushi--next time, for sure). The concierge recommended Tazu for it's authentic surroundings and fresh fish. We walked the few blocks to the restaurant. The place is small. But when it's full, the energy is fun but not overwhelming or loud. The staff is SUPER friendly. The service moves along at a nice pace and we never felt rushed. We were both STARVING. So we many have gone a little bit overboard. But the stand outs and the less than stellars for me were: appetizers: The seaweed salad was crisp and fresh. The small size was a perfect size for sharing. We did not enjoy the vegetable gyoza. They were mushy and tasteless. Sashimi: We had the sashimi dinner--a huge platter of fresh fish of the day. Fortunately, I remembered to specify NO EEL It's not the BEST fish I have ever had. But the price was right and it certainly was good. Rolls: I can't remember the name of the specialty roll that we ordered, but it had jalapeno's on the top. This was my favorite dish of the evening! The flavor profiles were clean and crisp. If I can ever remember what it's called, I'll order it again and again. We also had a regular california roll. Although it's sort of hard to screw this roll up, I still liked it because it was fresh. Dessert: I know we should have stuck with tempura ice cream or some other more traditional japanese dessert. But I went for tiramisu. And it was awful. LIke we had one bite and couldn't have another. It was bad. Overall, I'll come back here when I'm looking for good fish in a calmer atmosphere. The people of Cherry Creek seem to flock to the same place everyone else is going. I liked that this wasn't a scene. It was just a nice spot to have fresh fish for dinner.

Its a regular sushi restaurant.. nothing fancy... nothing out of extraordinary.... Sushi are kind of OK not really impressive here..... but they give you free ice-cream as dessert.

Splendid service by sincerely kind and happy people combined with splendid sushi, this is where I want to go all the time. After ordering off the menu and trying a special roll with spiced rice, tuna and shrimp, my goal is to try ALL of the specialty rolls and stick with the daily specials board. Their head chef is a genius. In addition to top notch tastes and subtle refinements, the sushi is beautiful. I get tired of misshapen sushi that falls apart. I love the sushi at Sushi Den, but I can't stand the noisy crowd of yuppie scum who all think they're the owner's favorite customer -- I want to set fire to everyone yelling into an iPhone while subjecting the staff to sign language: rude. I choose Sushi Tazu any day of the week (especially weekend afternoons when it's nice and quiet).

Great sashimi and the seaweed salad is to die for. Sushi was mediocre and the chicken dish the the BF had was okay. They have fantastic drinks (get the flaming volcano!) and a very nice staff (sit at the sushi bar, they are a riot back there). Worth a visit.

I had the Roll diner which was a sampler but I thought it was well above average. I was sitting right infront of the guy preparing them. He was very attentive to cleanliness and keeping everything covered. I thought the pleace was very clean and the servers friendly. The Yellowfin was delicious and Avacado roll is best on the menu...at least thats what everyone in my party said. I did not have it. I would go again if in town.

Cold service, old slimy fish. Way too expensive. No parking. Typical Cherry Creek spot, where they have to charge too much for less than average fare.

We grabbed up the Groupon that was offered for this place last month and decided to hit it up before a concert. The place was packed (friday night, so not a shock there) but we were seated right away at the sushi bar. A note on the sushi bar: It is CRAMPED. I kept bumping elbows with the stranger to my left and when a second couple was seated there, I got an up close and personal view of them making out until we finally left. On to the food, we ordered the shrimp gyoza which were tasty enough but probably not something we would try again as their are far better options on the menu (we felt a little rushed to order as they were so crowded). We also had some sushi rolls, the firecracker (with smoked trout), the spicy yellowtail and the eel wrapped in avocado. The firecracker came out first and it was tasty enough, you really do have to love trout to like this though. Second was the Eel and Avocado which was really quite good. The last roll to arrive was the spicy yellowtail and I was really appalled. The sushi rice was way too warm and I was unable to enjoy it AT ALL. One thing I noticed was that all of our rolls were falling apart as we tried to eat them. The rice just did not stick together very well. The fish quality was pretty good although the yellowtail was not as fresh as I prefer (not bad though just a texture issue). Our total bill came to $7 after our $25 certificate and we were really full, so I think the pricing (at least for what we ordered) was really decent. We will definitely go back, although I think it will be mid-week when they are hopefully not as busy.

If memory serves me right, the last time I was here I was instructing the kitchen staff on the proper way on cooking beef tongue (gyutan) because they had overcooked it repeatedly - luckily they were kind enough to not charge me for it, so I considered it a draw. I've been to Tazu several times, and it's definitely one of my "go to" places in Colorado because the attention to detail with the nigiri sushi is "super fantasy exce-rent ichiban" (Japlish). Plus I love to be able to order hijiki, ohitashi, yakitori, and all the other izakaya style foods you usually don't find in most Japanese restaurants in Colorado. You'd have to rely on your gammy, gam gams, granny or your mom to prepare it for you, but my gams gams passed away several decades ago, so I only have my mom to make it, and that's not happening (she's too busy with apple pie, cream puffs, and cookies). I just wish all those other restaurants weren't so caught up with contriving their next "fusion" crunchy, spicy, mayo filled dish, but I guess that's what sells...I know gammy wouldn't like it! I'll definitely be back even if I have issues with their grilled items being served cold, or overcooked, but I'm sure they're hopefully correcting these problems.

This is my favorite sushi bar in Denver. Sit at the bar and they'll serve the sushi a little at a time. I don't know...but there's just something not right about getting all the sushi at one time. By the time you get to the Unagi it's cold. This won't happen at Tazu's. I would recommend this to anyone wanting some seriously good Denver sushi.

My family and I have been regulars of Tazu's for 14 years. This place hands down has the most authentic delicious Japanese sushi. It's not one of those crap Korean style sushi places (no offense... and I'm korean) that encompass most of the Colorado sushi scene... and it's not just rolls covered in sugar sauce like shitty Hapa. This place has better sushi than most places in California and in the nation. But expect REAL sushi- none of the "I eat sushi... california rolls" place. If you are into authentic nigiri or sashimi... fresh... delicious... this is the ONLY place to go. Now that I live in California- all I want is the Chirashi... or this amazing green tea rice thing they have there. OMG sooo delicious!

They have fantastic lunch specials here. I had the Roll Lunch which include 3pieces each of spicy tuna and cucumber rolls and 4 pieces each of california & eel rolls. It came with sushi bar salad and miso soup and only cost $11.95. It was quite a deal. And even though we came in just before they closed for lunch (beware they are closed between 2:30 and 4:30) they were still friendly when serving us and our food was well-presented.

This is one of the top five sushi restaurants in Denver in my opinion. I have never been disappointed, and the Tropicana Roll (salmon, mango, secret orangey amazing sauce) is incredible.

Wow. Really? Sushi should be an experience. I don't care how often you go, or WHERE you go. Sushi is one of those artistic foods that should be special everytime. Sushi Tazu know this. I went in here for lunch and I was very impressed. I saw the Yelp sticker on the door and thought "Nice, I'm among my own people"... And I was right. Tazu takes their sushi very seriously. I ordered 3 rolls and two pieces of Sashimi for a total of 24 pieces of sushi! I also had to order a Saporo. When I was done, I felt like I was turning violet, Violet. And they rolled me out of there with the gentlest of sushi care. My Order: Spicy Tuna Salmon w/ Cream Cheese (a.k.a. Phili) roll Salmon roll Tuna Sashimi Salmon Sashimi I will definitely be coming back. BEST in Denver IMO

Wouldn't go again. I eat a lot of sushi. I like value and quality. This place was not good in any sense of the word.

I've been a regular at Tazu for over 15 years. On average my wife and I go between 2 and 4 times a month. Obviously I like Tazu. I did a rough calculation and I've spent more then $25,000 at Tazu 1 dinner or lunch at a time! BUT I am sad because I need to find a new sushi place! The fish is always good. I used to love the waitstaff, they same crew was there for years, they knew me as a regular and treated me that way but that waitstaff is GONE! and the waitress now explains to me what each type of fish is on the plate! (this is annoying! I know what each fish is! I've eaten every one hundreds of times and that bar right over there behind you prepared it for me!) They have a whole new crew! Where did they go? Why did they leave? This is a huge disappointment because the new staff just doesn't cut it. Some of the other reviews indicate this as well. They seem distant and snobby or over eager and try to hard but miss the basics Example? the old staff cleared the table of miso bowls and chopstick wrappers and used plates instantly I never had a second thought, even brought the sake without my asking; new staff I need to point at the bowl as they walk by, then they walk back and pick it up. The new staff never seems to know what is available, I order something from the standard menu, 10 minutes later they come back tell me they don't have it. Old staff would be back in 3-5 minutes even with the same full house crowd. New staff says yes absolutely we have a salmon collar and I need to explain what salted is, then 15 minutes later they come back say no salmon do you want tuna? I say same price? they say no, another time I ask for collar they bring fillet?!? It bothers me that after so many years the entire staff has all left, what happened? Free ice cream doesn't make it better! How come I get charged for the bar salad now after years of no charge? Some dishes are from crate and barrel! I know they are cheaper then the beautiful Asian pottery that was there before but cheap white sushi plates just don't cut it! I suppose cheaper settings means lower expenses but customers notice! Can anyone recommend a sushi place just like Tazu but with attentive, friendly and efficient wait staff, like Tazu had a few years ago? I like Domo and Ishikawa and Sushi Den but need a "regular joint".

With a toned-down, understated presence, and without a flashy PR firm on retainer, Sushi Tazu is often overlooked by local diners seeking a top quality Soju & Saba power lunch. Instead, guided by the generous, if not relentless coverage ladled on by local food critics, diners flock to places like Sushi Den and Sushi Sasa. To these people I say, good for you! Keep it up. Please. I'd like to keep Tazu all to myself. The sushi - quality, diversity and freshness - is excellent... always! As good as it gets in the mile high city and without any doubt, it stands up to the Den or Sasa. And when it comes to Saki and Soju offerings, and authentic izakaya-style dishes (Ika Natto, Shishamo, Ankimo Ponzu) Tazu is, believe it or not, THE FAR BETTER RESTAURANT!

Great sushi place, one of the best ones I can actually think of that comes to mind. Atmosphere is good, prices may be a bit steep. You can also order different things besides sushi. I have heard some horror stories about people that eat sushi where it is not prepared right and they worship the porcelain god for a day and a half. Tazu passes with flying colors where you don't have to worry about such things even though paganism is fascinating worship the porcelain gods does not give you spiritual enlightenment.

I had lunch here a few days ago and sat at the bar because the place was packed. It was fun to watch the guy put sushi together, but I was disappointed in my appetizer of veggie tempura. The outside batter was crispy even though it had gotten cold and the inside vegies were very bland. the udon noodle dish was only ok. The staff is friendly and happy.

Meh. Expensive but closer to authentic. There are many traditional Japanese dishes on the menu but the sushi was lacking. The rolls were small and mostly rice. I came because of the Groupon, and I don't think I'll go again. The fried roll was yummy but rather greasy and the service was lackluster. Stay away from the oranges for dessert, they were sitting out (already cut) for the entire 2 hours we were there and were warm to the touch. VERDICT- Meh. You could do better.

This isn't Sushi Den (doesn't have the over rated reputation or long lines) or Hapa (doesn't have the faux nouvelle cuisine or overly she she atmosphere), and that's part of why I like it. The sushi is good, the atmosphere fun, and the staff are friendly (especially once they get to know you). This is the place I go when I want to kick back, enoy some sushi and sake, and am not going for a business lunch. The seaweed salad rocks and whether you're looking for the sushi wimp california roll or something far more traditional involving cured rice and mono-flavored, this place hits it on the head. I've eaten sushi in Japan. I've been to all the other major options in and around town. This is the place I keep going back to (usually after I finish watching an epsiode of Shin Chan) and they even let me in when I'm wearing a Shin Chan t-shirt. Gotta love this place.

Unfortunately, the only reason I am giving them two stars rather than one star is based solely on one waitress. The service by our waitress was terrible (it was the second waitress that made it worth it as at least she was attentive) and the sushi was the worst I have ever had. It tasted like paste - or glue depending on what you ate as a kid. The eel had weird strings in it, the salmon was pasty, and the california roll was mostly mayonnaise. This is the second time we have tried it and both times have left so disappointed that it won't get a third try.

Ok sushi. Very good seafood is difficult to find in Denver. It's the staff here that makes or breaks it. Our server was awesome, fun and engaging. It was also her birthday.

Nice setting with a cute little patio. Service was relatively quick. The rice was nice and fresh and the fish seemed to be of good quality. Unfortunately, this place seemed to suffer from the current trend of making sushi rolls AS BIG AS POSSIBLE. What's the point? You're supposed to be able to eat a piece of sushi in one bite so that you can get all the flavors at once. At this restaurant I had to pick apart every single role so that I could actually fit it in my mouth. I'm getting really tired of this constant problem with sushi restaurants. Larger does not equal better! I had the salmon skin roll and an unagi/avacado roll (forget exactly what it was called). My husband had a couple of tempura rolls. Not bad, but probably not a place I'll visit again since I've found other sushi restaurants in the Aurora area that I like better.

Sushi Den ain't got nothing on this place. Yes, it's a little spendy. It's SUSHI. You don't want your guys cutting corners with raw fish now, do you? That said, the portions here are as ample as sushi portions get, and the staff is super-accommodating. They cheer you as you walk in the door (I'm not sure exactly what they're saying-- for all I know it could be "whattup, sucka?" in Japanese-- but it sounds friendly and they say it with a smile) and wave you out when you leave. They've always got choice cuts of fish (including the sometimes elusive Toro Tuna) and adventurous specials that'll impress even the most jaded sushi fan. For something a little different, try the "Dynamite" app. It's a chopped seafood mix dosed up with dynamite sauce (no clue what's in it, but it sure is tasty) before ladled into mussel shells and set under the broiler. Yum. And be sure and ask for the Organic Wasabi. It's not on the menu. Let's let it be our little secret, hm? For my money, I'll take Sushi Tazu over Sushi Den any day. Maybe it's because they DON'T know they've got "Best of Westword" and "Top Of The Town" people's choice awards as automatic gimmes, but they just seem to care about pleasing you a little bit more here. And once the general public realizes that you CAN get excellent sushi in Denver somewhere other than the Den, this place might finally get its due praise.

Decided to bike down here and check this place out. I went with a friend who is quite a food connoisseur, which makes me a little hesitant to bring them someplace that I haven't been before. Either way, went for it and it payed off. We started off with a bunch of nigiri/sashimi ranging from tuna, to monk fish liver, to a delectable fatty snapper (I believe it was). I would have never ordered the liver, but he said I had to try it, and I did. Probably won't order that one again, but thats just a personal taste. We came in on Friday night, seated right away on the patio. Service was good, we had some cool beverages for our bike ride parched mouths right away followed by our heaping tray of raw fish. All the fish seemed fresh and tasted delicious. They even let us put together our own roll! Definitely one of the more affordable sushi places around here, and real tasty.

I didn't eat a wide variety here -- spicy tuna rolls & hamachi. Oh, and a glass of wine. We sat on the porch because it was a little on the toasty side indoors. Cute joint. I liked the patio. The spicy tuna was a bit too much heat for me, but my date thought it was great. The hamachi was a little disappointing -- it didn't taste fresh. The servers were very attentive and efficient. Not the best sushi joint I've been to, but it was pretty good.

I went to Sushi Tazu in hopes of finding my go-to, everyday-style sushi restaurant. This place looked promising, there were a lot of people, inside and outside, having liveley conversation. My experience, unfortunately, was lackluster - I will not be returning. I thought the sushi chef was awesome - very attentive and friendly (we sat at the bar); however, the fish was not the freshest, the place smelled like the not-so-fresh fish, and my waitress was not attentive..the spicy tuna was really spicey (which was a bonus) but i needed a chaser and she was MIA.

Although not at the top of my list of favorite sushi restaurants, this Cherry Creek establishment delivers with a couple different twists I've never had before in sushi, and that's always a good thing. First off, we were able to get seated right away on a Friday night, table for 2, at the sushi bar, so that's a plus. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was saying about the prices on the website, they're EXACTLY the prices we got on our menus. Not a bargain, but not over the top either... exactly what you'd expect for decent sushi ($30/person). Chefs were all either Asian or Latino (what else?) for whatever that's worth. We tried the Saigon roll (something like a Vietnamese sushi spring roll), the spicy tuna roll, the soft shell crab roll, the interesting Excaliber roll, and my favorite, the Tropicana roll featuring salmon and mango, topped with a super-thinly cut lemon slice. Good sushi, great location. Definitely worth a visit for sushi lovers.

One of my favorite Sushi places in Denver. Small, understated even being in Cherry Creek. I like the small quaintness of the place, it reminds me more of the restaurants in Japan. The sushi is good, not too pricey. I enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the unagi roll. These are usually what I have when I eat sushi and I have a tendency to judge places by them.

(4)Aaron E.
(3)Kristin O.
Great sushi, great service. The prices are reasonable and probably cheap for Cherry Creek standards. The ambiance is very casual and authentic, not at all trendy or overdone. The tables are pretty small - I wouldn't try going here with a group larger than 4.
(4)Kenneth T.
(3)Chris H.

(1)Andrew R.
Food was excellent. Service was awesome. Sushi was the best or second best I've had in Denver. The quality was about tied with Sushi Den but at 2/3 the cost. Authentic Japanese restaurant. This is our new favorite sushi restaurant.
(5)Meg G.
Wonderful sushi and large menu of Japanese dishes.
(4)Rita K.
(3)Blair M.
(4)Autumn S.
(4)Chris L.
well well well I found decent sushi in Denver, it reminded me of sushi joints that I went to in Japan, they even had a place for you to sit right at the sushi bar, has limited deating so get there early I would recommend. Their rolls were excellent and by far the best ive had in Denver and they give you oranges afterward for free for dessert. I will be coming here again
(4)Ming C.
(4)Matt O.
(3)Matthew A.
(5)Bubba D.
This place is too uneven, sometimes a 5-star dinner, other times it's pretty average. Which is too bad, because I really enjoy the atmosphere and when they're on, the traditional sushi is excellent.
(3)Kim Y.
(4)Joe R.
(3)Erin V.
This place is addicting! They have the most delicious rolls ever and the nicest most welcoming service! High recommendations, The Saigon Roll, and the Volcano Roll. This is my favorite Sushi Place for sure.
(5)Brandon M.
Not good rolls. No description of what is in each roll. Only good thing was the mussels, we told them to bake the dynamite sauce on them.
(1)C S.
(4)Angela M.

I think it is the best quality sushi in Denver and it is great sitting outside on the side walk.

(4)Patrick D.

(4)Brian D.
(2)MJ J.

(3)Brian Z.
Hands down, best sushi in town. The wait staff is friendly -and if you eat there more than 4 times, they will know your name.
(5)M. K.
(2)Andrew C.
i go to them all and this one kicks tail. salmon tail in fact. yes, "the den" is supposed to be the best in denver, but having eaten at both places hundreds of times, i can tell you this. there is never a wait at sushi tazu and the sushi is just as good. here is the secret addiction: sit at the bar and get the little seaweed salad. save the saucer of liquid once you are done eating the little chunks of octopus (i think it is called "hotosi sauce" if you need extra). order a few pieces of salmon sushi with extra lemon slices. squeeze lemon juice all over the salmon till saturated. dip each piece in the saucer of left-over seaweed salad dressing, throw the whole thing in your mouth and savor the orgasm. enough said.
(5)Jason W.
(3)Taylor G.
Loved this place! Excellent service! Went on a Friday night pretty early so we beat the rush, and it was packed by the time we left. Love the fresh oranges at the end of the meal! Only down point is the bathrooms location, you have to go through the server well, but other than that amazing!
(4)Nini S.
Been here a couple times and I've neverhad a bad experience so far. The sushi wasn't the best I've ever had but it's a nice atmosphere and our service was great! The owner offered us free green tea ice cream for dessert but we were so full!
(4)Kellie B.

(1)Jessica R.
I'll never go back
(1)David F.
It's been here a long while. Obviously, to be here for so long they know what to do to succeed in business. Sushi is nicely prepared. The only drawback is that the restaurant is extremely small and even with the patio dining, it still remains a small restaurant. Parking of course in Cherry Creek is an issue.
(4)Rebecca G.
This place is a hidden treasure! The price is great, the service is fast and the sushi is one of the best I've had in 14 years of living in Denver! The deep fried roll was amazing!
(5)Sam R.
Great fish quality and presentation. The food was fresh and tasty. Definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in Denver.
(5)Lindsey K.
(3)Kelly G.
(3)Jim B.
Coming from LA, the bar is high for sushi done right. I definitely enjoyed the quality and value of lunch with the wife.
(4)Dianne D.
(5)Ran T.
one star is for the free salad and ice cream.
(1)Jennifer H.
(4)Brooke T.
Most authentic sushi restaurant in Denver! We love sushi and have spent time in Japan. We really love this place. The service is also great! There is a nice patio for summer months.
(5)Jeremy P.
(5)Steve N.
Love this place. The quality and freshness is amazing. Favorites include the rainbow roll, Saigon roll, and all of shashimi. You will be happy you went.
(5)John D.
(3)Terrence K.
One of the best in town simple. Are there better maybe are there worse an entire city full of them. I give them a 5.
(5)Alison B.
I love this place! Always get a table quickly, food comes out promptly! Try the Mile High Roll! It is incredible!
(4)H D L.
(5)Courtney B.
The absolutely worst sushi Ive ever had. One of the rolls came covered in Parmesan cheese, GROSS! Also, one of the sauces smelled like dog food. My husband ended up puking because the smell was so horrendous.
(1)Brett M.
(1)Asko B.
Little bit on the pricier side but their sushi is delicious. Best sushi roll is Dragon Roll with warm melted cheese on top. Om nom nom.
(4)Natasha N.
Make sure you check your bill when you go here, the waitress charged me a tip more than what I put and I already tipped 20%!!! Good thing I keep every receipt. I just wonder how many other people they are scamming. I do not trust this place and I'll never be back.
(1)Doug Y.
(3)Jeff R.
Very good sushi and some unique rolls. That really sums it up. There isn't really anything that extraordinary, but if consistently good sushi is what your after, you can't go wrong here. Service is attentive and friendly. Give it a try. I think you'll like it...
(4)Ruth C.

(4)Roman F.
Nice place for an afternoon Asahi, pleasant outdoors seating on quiet street and attentive service. Ahh nice...
(4)Sarah S.
Service was slow and our order was inaccurate; however, sushi was great and seaweed salad fantastic.
(3)Andrea R.

(3)Jodi A.
(5)Becca W.
(3)Rachel G.
(4)Eric S.
(4)Mone T.
(4)Joe R.
(1)Lissa R.
Terrible. The restaurant was freezing cold, the service wasn't great, and the food was terrible. The sushi was thin and dry and the rolls were strange. And it was all over priced. With all of the great sushi places in denver skip this one.
(1)Nikosh O.
Great service, fun atmosphere, delicious seaweed salad and really great sushi. The fancy fusion sushi places are entertaining, but this place is my favorite in Denver so far. It's not pretentious, it's delicious, it's a fun place to take your friends, and a good place for a date. Dee-lish.
(4)Lauren H.

(3)Holly G.
(5)Taj M.
(3)Sabrina W.
No, no, no! I would give zero stars if I could. No amount of free salad or ice cream makes up for old, poorly prepared sushi (aka what you came there to actually purchase). The use of imitation crab meat puts the final nail in the coffin for me. You are better off grabbing sushi from whole foods or even king soopers.
(1)Stephan G.
Best sushi in Denver by far. Not pretentious. Average price. Freshest fish made by true Japanese traditionalists!
(5)Caitlyn F.
(3)Anna W.
Its a regular sushi restaurant.. nothing fancy... nothing out of extraordinary.... Sushi are kind of OK not really impressive here..... but they give you free ice-cream as dessert.
(3)Craig D.
(5)Christa B.
Great sashimi and the seaweed salad is to die for. Sushi was mediocre and the chicken dish the the BF had was okay. They have fantastic drinks (get the flaming volcano!) and a very nice staff (sit at the sushi bar, they are a riot back there). Worth a visit.
(4)E D.
(4)T R.
Cold service, old slimy fish. Way too expensive. No parking. Typical Cherry Creek spot, where they have to charge too much for less than average fare.
(2)Annette R.
(3)Greg T.
(4)Steve S.
(5)Annette C.
(5)Xinna L.
server there is very awful, a Chinese guy, likes to bother customers all the time!
(1)Tiffany N.
(4)Barb B.
This is one of the top five sushi restaurants in Denver in my opinion. I have never been disappointed, and the Tropicana Roll (salmon, mango, secret orangey amazing sauce) is incredible.
(4)Chris T.
Wow.
(5)Hannes G.
Wouldn't go again. I eat a lot of sushi. I like value and quality. This place was not good in any sense of the word.
(2)bill a.
(2)JR R.
(5)Alden C.
(5)susan w.
(3)Ming T.
(3)John P.
(4)Elizabeth L.
(2)Walter P.
Ok sushi. Very good seafood is difficult to find in Denver. It's the staff here that makes or breaks it. Our server was awesome, fun and engaging. It was also her birthday.
(3)Blythe K.
(3)Kym B.

Don't trust the prices on their website. They are way off! The Sushi on the other hand was good.
