My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now every other week since they opened. The fish is very tasty and no matter when you go, the maki and nigiri are consistently made the same regardless of the chef. They don't overload you with rice like most places and they don't use wasabi in nigiri which my wife appreciates. For those that like maki, they offer a wide variety of special rolls. The service is most always great. I usually come Fri - Sun. If you sign up on their email list you will receive an occasional coupon for $10 or 10% off. Each time we go and try a new sushi place in the area it only cements the reason why we keep coming back to Sushi Bay on Tennyson. Quality, consistency, and a great happy hour.

Awesome sushi. Awesome lunch specials! Their miso soup is so spot on! Very friendly staff and very authentic. These guys not only know how to properly cook sushi rice but they get the proportions right as well! Hamachi Kama appetizer is so delicious! We usually go for lunch and get the specials that come with 2 or 3 rolls, soup and salad. Never disappointed. Really wonderful tea as well! We have only been for dinner once, but found it just as impressive! Really love the food here. Perhaps our only complaint would be the music at times. Would prefer traditional japanese music or classical etc over pop music. haha. But seriously, we love the food here and that is what keeps us coming back.

This is my absolute favorite sushi joint in my neck of the woods (and one of my favorites in this landlocked state - I am a California transplant). The fish is always fresh, the service is reliable and the diversity of the menu allows me to drag my non-sushi loving boyfriend (the horror, I know) here without issue. As a testimony to the non-fish items, both my 35 year old boyfriend and 2 year old nephew are enthusiastic fans of their chicken gyoza. Said 2 year old nephew has a record of 8 gyoza in one sitting. He likey! In addition to the solid, consistent food, they are super accommodating about special orders (subbed raw items for cooked when my sister-in-law was pregnant) and they now offer delivery. Yay!! My only complaint is that they don't have a loyalty rewards program for people like myself who frequent the establishment on a regular basis. If they did, my visit frequency might increase from once or twice a week, to twice a week or more. Listen up, Sushi Bay Management!!

If you get the all-you-can-eat deal, here are the specifics: anything you cannot eat, you will be charged $1 each for. They aren't sneaky about telling you that and I honestly understand why they would do it, so I have no hard feelings about it. I ate 50 pieces of sushi and rolls before having to stop and pay $8 on top of the $30 for the all-you-can-eat deal. So, all in all, I was in pretty good shape. And since I am against wasting anything, particularly food, I think this is a good policy. By the way though, you have to order sushi or rolls with this deal--no sashimi. On top of that, you have to eat the rice and the fish. I liked the sushi. As soon as I got to the rolls, either the law of diminishing returns hit me or the rolls just weren't that good. I will not specify at this time which it was, but I was unimpressed enough to probably not return. And this is not because the food was bad by any means, so I suggest you check it out, it just wasn't spectacular in any way to me. If you go on sushi Sunday expect long wait times. Not incredibly long, they were actually good about seating us relatively fast, but ordering and receiving our food took some time. All in all, I suggest eating the sushi and steering clear of the rolls, but I'm kind of a purist when it comes to fish, so go for what pleases your pallet...

This sushi place is very close to me and looks like nothing special from the inside, but once you walk in you will change your mind. The interior is very nicely decorated with nice light features and art work. However, the tables are super close together! I'm pretty crazy about that only because I like to hear my own conversations. The service was excellent throughout the entire night and our waitress asked multiple times if we were enjoying the food...that's a plus! Before entrees, my guests and I started with the chicken dumplings- they were average. For dinner, we decided to share a plate of the California rolls, the Las Vegas rolls, and the Philadelphia. Everything was pretty good!- would I say it was the best sushi I ever had?- no, but it was still fairly good! At the end of the night, we were satisfied! I probably will return in the future!

Impressed! I was on the elliptical at the nearby 24 hour when I got a text from a friend "Aud, (what my friends call me), I have a bottle of wine with our name on it. come over!" How could I say no? I offered to pick up food and since we both love sushi I thought it was a good chance to try a place I never had. I ordered through Yelp/ Eat24 and it was easy. I could pay in person which I prefer. I said to have the food ready at 6:05, and it was! The set-up for a to-go order was great. They made sure the wasabi/ginger wasn't touching any of the food, which I appreciate. They wrote on the lid which roll was which- so thoughtful! The sushi was excellent quality, I got the Bronco roll (10/10) and the Las Vegas roll (6/10.. expected more flavor). My friend let me try the surf and turf roll.. which I was pleasantly surprised with! Steak on a sushi roll is so bizarre to me, but it worked. I hope to dine in soon (UM, I saw on a sign they have UNLIMITED sushi on Sundays for under $30.. YES , PLEASE! Let me find my big sweatpants and a bib!) and while I was paying my bill, I heard a waitress ask a couple how everything was. The lady replied a very enthusiastic "Everything is aboslutely great!"

Wow, I should of tried this place sooner!! Here for happy hour and everything we ordered is outstanding!!! Will definitely be back

  • Kathy A.

Pleasantly surprised. Not much to look at but the food was amazing. We went early 630 on a Saturday and didn't have a wait. Parking was easy as well. The super white tuna was the best I've had. The rolls are creative and extremely tasty. I would have liked better wine choices but could deal with the beer offered. Service was good - not as good as the food. I'll be back - especially on an all you can eat night. Definitely a hidden gem.

We've been to Sushi Bay twice now and prefer it to the other sushi restaurant on Tennyson (Okinawa). You'll find the typical assortment of rolls made from spicy tuna, salmon skin, cream cheese, soft-shell crab, avocado, etc. We have not been disappointed. Our first visit the jalapeno yellow-tail was a standout appetizer. When ordered the second time it was doused in a sickly sweet sauce. The sashimi dinner is served in a large platter illuminated from the bottom with twinkling lights. It's like a rave under there! The quality of ingredients is good enough for what I'd describe as a "Chinese run Japanese Restaurant". Yes folks, that's Mandarin being spoken by the wait staff and the guys behind the sushi counter. That is not to say that non-Japanese can't serve up good sushi but don't expect a super-authentic experience.

  • Chris G.

Delivery sushi! Excellent delivery sushi. These guys have a solid menu and delivery is always pretty fast. Prices are very reasonable. You can get a lot of food for 2 people for $30 or $35. I feel that their sushi is on par with some of the more expensive spots. Ive only actually eaten at the resturant once and I got pretty hammered so I dont really have much to offer there.

I've been to Sushi Bay a few times and found it to be decent but my last experience was disappointing. I always order the sashimi dinner in addition to a few rolls. Certain of the sashimi slices were slushy in the middle and tasted like fish that hadn't thoroughly thawed. I know sushi restaurants often keep their raw fish on ice at freezing or near freezing temperatures, but serving fish that has a slushy texture/consistency makes for a very unpleasant dining experience. I had to spit out the last two pieces, including hamachi (yellowtail) which is usually my favorite. I just couldn't bring myself to swallow icy, mushy fish. I always thought of Sushi Bay as a reasonably priced neighborhood joint but I'd rather pay a little more and drive a little farther for better quality. Many of their rolls are pretty tasty and their service is good but this is not the restaurant for true sushi enthusiasts.

Sushi Bay is our go-to sushi spot when we're looking for an affordable fix. Quality vs. price is a good balance; they're not a high-end or low-end joint, so you can come here weekly without a lot of wallet pain. We have lately been coming in for AYCE on Sunday nights. It's $27.95 now, but worth every penny. While it's nigiri / rolls only when it comes to sushi, they go surprisingly light on rice, so you don't feel like you're getting carbo-stuffed. The offering is extensive, and includes most of their rolls and nigiris, including things like surf clam, eel, sweet shrimp (ama ebi), etc. Also included is many of their apps, like seaweed salad, yellowtail collar, mussels, and more. THE AYCE really a fantastic value for the price, and nothing tastes like it's past its prime. The sushi chefs have skill and know what they're doing back there; the rice is consistently some of the better rice I've had; always balanced flavors, never under- or over-sticky. We've never been disappointed here. You should try it, too.

I really like the location, decor, and food here. The service was fantastic and the prices were not terrible for a sushi restaurant. Look forward to going back and trying new things!

Went in for the all you can eat sushi with some buddies. It was posted on the website $27.95 bit it's now $29.95 per person. Some thing they should update on the website to let customers know. Also didn't know we would be charged for uneaten rice from the sushi. Me personally like sashimi, no rice with my fish. I was told unwound be charged an additional $1 for each sushi without the fish, again something that should be in the rules. Don't get me wrong g it a great sushi place but a little more info for the customers would be nice.

The best thing on the menu is the stuffed jalapeno. It's a fried jalapeno, stuffed with spicy tuna and cream cheese and drizzled with special sauce. It's amazing. Make sure to get that. The crispy spicy tuna is also good. I also love the roll that has the peppered tuna on top and the spicy girl roll. They also have some good rolls that are "low carb" wrapped in soy paper and cucumber and those are also really good. The staff is always super friendly and they get your order and meal quick. Although I've never been, I heard the all you can eat sushi on Sunday's is good. Happy hour prices are really good too.

My husband and I love this place. They have excellent service, even when they are busy. We always request mayonnaise to be removed from the rolls, and they never mess up orders like this. The food is delicious. Our favorites are Seaweed Salad, Crazy Girl Roll, and Kobe Beef Roll. Would recommend Sushi Bay over Okinawa up the block, because Sushi Bay seems to have more meat in their rolls.

After trying out several different spots, we've decided to call this one our go-to sushi restaurant. One thing I usually look for as a personal preference is their Sashimi offering and Sushi Bay does not disappoint. Healthy cuts of fish and good variety. Presentation is about on par with what you would expect. Wide variety of rolls available, but we didn't see any specials. Would be nice to see a 1 or 2 that are changing. We also love the Age Tofu and Seaweed salad. Pretty typical appetizers at any sushi restaurant but we like it best here.

  • Lindsay J.

We just had take-out from here for the first time. Overall the rolls tasted good so that's the most important thing. However, I was stunned at the small size of the special, aka pricier, rolls! When you spend $10-$15 each on a special roll you expect it to be a certain size. Ours were as small as the basic rolls. Just surprising and we were left a little hungry and felt somewhat ripped off.

Love this place. Sunday has all you can eat for $29. Best deal and really good sushi. Happy hour every day 3-6 and late night happy hour too. Staff is very friendly. Haven't tasted anything I don't like. Absolutely love the spicy crispy tuna appetizer.

Awesome sushi! Their attention to detail on their rolls was beautiful! The staff was very attentive and friendly! The atmosphere was quiet but bright and fun. Loved their chandeliers! Highly recommend for a date night or a group dinner!

Great little place in a vibrant area. Sushi and service are amazing--the Green Roll is my favorite. Hubby loves the tuna tacos. Have dined during regular hours, happy hour, and all you can eat Sunday. Have never been disappointed.

Brought the family here and we all ooo'ed and aaah'ed at the presentation and taste. Calamari is the freshest we have had. Hands down some of the best sushi out there.

Happy hour (3-6pm) is awesome. Just ate here for the first time today- sushi was good quality. Cute little place on first block off 38th on Tennyson. Great, attentive, fast service. Anton was fast to help with every question & request. We had a great dinner for 2 for $35 with drinks. Large Sapporo & large sake both $4. We shared a 38th Street roll & ordered 5 pieces of sushi. The pepper tuna was my favorite. They also have a reverse happy hour from 9 to close. Grabbed yo go menus- we will definitely be coming back!

Great sushi. Nice presentation and seemed fresh from what I can tell. The fish size was large and the rolls were not covered with an abundance of rice. However: I felt that we were putting our waitress out with our queations. Also, if you are Gluten sensitive, this in not the place for you. There are not many options and if you don't know which rolls are GF, you may have a hard time finding something to eat.

First time here. Went on Sunday for AYCE but we were told the chefs were tired so they were not offering it anymore. They did allow us to order off of the happy hour menu. We enjoyed our sushi but next time hope to try the all you can eat.

I have ordered from this restaurant a couple times so far from grubhub, and I must say I have yet to order anything I haven't loved. The yakisoba, sushi and chicken katsu is very delicious.

Food was incredible, however the service was absolutely horrible. Our waiter did not check on us once and did not remember any of our orders. As well as asked us if we wanted our check ( during an all you can eat after one plate). We arrived around 5pm and sat for a good 40 minutes waiting for an order and left after still being hungry since no one would serve us. Hostess did not know which table was which either. Sadly food was good but would not go back because of the service.

  • Kiyono A.

The food here is ok. I was glad to see that the sushi rice wasn't dense and hard, but the rolls lacked imagination. Even the maki rolls were just alright in my opinion. There were a lot of cooked or crunchy options, which I'm not crazy about. The saving grace was the salmon nigiri - it's my favorite, and the ones here are on par with any of the sushi places I usually frequent. The waitstaff was pretty good too. I have to say that the waitress we got after being seated was way more friendly than the guy who greeted us - she checked in on us often and was pleasant to talk to whereas the guy who seated us was more standoffish. We did come at an odd time, but I expect service to be consistent throughout the day. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably be back. The happy hour prices were pretty decent, and the food wasn't bad. Plus, it's close enough to my place that I can just bike here. I just expect more out of sushi, and this place didn't blow me out of the water.

I came here with a friend during a Saturday happy hour. We figured we couldn't miss $1 sushi and we were right. The place was pretty empty when we got there, but filled up while we waited for our food at the sushi bar. I ordered sushi a la carte: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white tuna, eel. We also split a godzilla roll and I had a mango mojito. The roll was pretty good, the drink was just ok - not really mojito-ish. The fish, however, was soo good. Its been a LONG time since I had sushi with so much (good) flavor now that I've been living in PA. Every piece was tender and melt in your mouth really showcasing the flavor of each piece. I had to order seconds just to savor the flavor. Staff was friendly and even if our specific waitress wasn't quick, there was another manager there who was helpful in speeding things up.

Delicious! We started with the miso soup which came in a generous portion and followed with 4 rolls: Las Vegas, Godzilla, Tempura sweet potato and sweet egg. Everything was delicious and of high quality. Will definitely be back!

My husband doesn't like sushi, so I yelped some local sushi spots that had "non-sushi" choices, and sushi bay came up with a lot of great reviews. I am so happy we tried it. The service is prompt and nice. The food was excellent. The dragon roll rocked my world. They also have yummy mochi. My husband liked his chicken teriyaki, so everyone was happy. Great place! :)

This is a review I don't really want to write because I don't want others to know about this great place! It's a very cute and quiet sushi restaurant in the heart of downtown Tennyson. The food was amazing! Best sushi we have found in Denver since we moved from LA. Everything from their spicy tuna hand rolls to their super thick sashimi. Even presentation was fantastic! Service was quick and spot on. A great spot for sushi.

I loved the food and the service! But the dishes needed much better washing, especially the tea pots and accessories and utensils. For this reason, everytime I consider returning, I always see that scum in my mind and keep driving.

The Brussel sprouts are to die for, the best I ever had. The Golden seafood and Dynamite are so tasty! The service was quick, professional, the host, was very helpful and greeted us with a smile. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. I tried to find something to complain about, but could not find any fault....even when the bill arrived! I plan on coming on a Sunday for the all you can eat! I highly recommend!

Great food! Went for all you can eat to try a lot out at once. Girlfriend I and arrived around 5pm. It was not even a bit packed. The waitress assisted us and ask if we were doing all you can eat. She was quick and friendly. We ordered some sushi and an appetizer. Near 545 we got the sushi and then about 15 minutes later we finally got appetizer. The meal was good and some of it was better than many sushi places we went to. The waiter, not waitress asked if everything was ok and to let him know if we needed anything. After eating out first meal, he constantly made eye contact, but assisted all other customers. We eventually had to flag him down for another order. Once we put our order in, we had to another 45 minutes without him coming by once. We heard others complain about his service when he forgot their orders as well. Finally we spotted part of our food sitting on the bar, made contact with him many times and he never grabbed our food or asked us. We finally flagged him down and he said that it would only be a few more minutes and we pointed to our food and said we were sure it was ours. It turned out to be ours just missing the salmon. After we finished the meal we began saying to each other that the service sucked. I'm pretty sure he heard us, because two minutes later, the 3rd time in 2 hours he ever spoke to us, he asked, " soooo do you guys want the check?" More in shocked, we told him we were still waiting on our salmon. Never heard from him again. The waitress ended up asking if we were ok about 15 minutes later. Told her we were waiting on salmon. She said it should be done and checked. Sure enough, she came back out with the salmon. The food-awesome Service- the waiter was horrible. The hostess and waitress ended up doing more than him Heard its a great place and usually quick, but the waiter in glasses and tattoo on arm was worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant

It may not be the best sushi you've ever had, but it's pretty darn good and the portions are generous. It's not flashy or trendy- and that's the way we like it. Comfortable size, a little divey and with a great staff. A few of our favorites that aren't that odd were missing from the menu, but things that are more unusual were here, tasty and fresh. Favorites? Everything we ordered from sushi, sashimi, traditional and special rolls all were tasty. Did into on the sashimi portions were generous? There are two sushi places that are only a few blocks apart. A newer, louder, trendier, pricier one and this one. We've been to both and Sushi Bay is a new favorite.

  • Kelly T.

I'll say this: these guys handled a table of 8 people on separate checks with relative ease, so kudos to them. The ordering runs the same way it does in most sushi places. Mark the rolls and sushi you want and they'll bring it out for you. However, some of the items I wanted weren't on the paper menu, so they said, just write it down and we'll bring it out. Which worked out swimmingly. I got two different rolls and two different nigiri sushi. The rolls were great! I really enjoyed them and I would have them again, but the nigiri I couldn't eat. I tried one piece from both types (salmon and tuna, I think) but could barely get them down. They were extremely dry and didn't taste fresh at all. When I realized that the pieces of sushi were so vastly different in taste to the rolls, I took a look inside the rolls and, sure enough, they were a fish paste instead of slices of fish. Now, don't get me wrong, I have NO problem with that. I will eat the shit out of those types of rolls at sushi happy hour at Go Fish, but I was paying $10-$12 for those rolls and $4-$5 for the nigiri and I've had much better sushi for that price. I think their sushi is WAY overpriced for what they deliver. At the end of the night my tab came out to $50 with tip and I feel like, while I was full, I didn't really get my money's worth when it came to quality. They would be getting two stars, but their service really was great and they handled our table very well.

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday, which the restaurant did a great job doing. They were cool with us all having separate checks, said checks were correct, they kept the birthday boy's cake ready which was delivered by his girlfriend earlier, and provided the most awesome cake decoration ever. This thing was shaped like a tulip and when the middle was lit, it went up in a glorious flame that caused the flower to open up and rotate with each petal having a candle that was lit. I probably had a childish look of amazement when they set this thing off. So cool. On to the sushi. I ordered the spicy crispy sushi combo, which comes with spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon rolls - a total of 24 pieces of sushi - plus a side of miso soup and simple salad with an Asian dressing. This was an incredible amount of food for only $15! The miso soup was the highlight to me, as it was packed with flavor. However, either the sushi or the soy sauce was insanely salty. I rarely, if ever, have food that is too salty for my handling, but I was grasping for water. Which was my other issue - I had to wave my glass to get more water, and I was quite parched by that point. All in all a good experience, with friendly and accommodating service that was a bit spotty at times. Although my sushi wasn't the greatest I've had, it was alright. Some of the fancier rolls others ordered looked really good. If I lived in the area I'd probably come by frequently, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here...unless I had a cake to put that crazy candle thingy on. Seriously, blew my mind.

I love this local spot. The sushi has always been excellent and the service great. They just recently hired a new sushi chef who is amazing, creative and very friendly. I definitely recommend this little spot. It's hard to find good, local sushi spots in Denver that actually taste okay but this place is great!

This area of Tennyson needed a sushi place, Sushi bay fills the void. I've been here a few times and have always walked away just feeling okay about the experience. The sushi itself is about average but the service is above average. I am a huge fan of their happy hour and lunch specials. Two rolls, soup and salad for $10 is a pretty awesome deal for sushi lunch. The HH menu is stacked too. Lots of roll and drink specials worth venturing over to Tennyson for some sushi.

  • Luke H.

An intimate neighborhood restaurant. This sushi place is a fine addition to Tennyson. If Sushi Bay was in any other large city in America, then it would be 5 star sushi. The problem is that Denver is tied for the best sushi in the U.S. with NYC and SF, so with place as good as Sushi Den and Izakaya Den, it is hard for a sushi spot to shine. We've gotten the stuffed jalapenos every time, and their yellowtail seems to always be fresh. I recommend the the seared tuna and the Spicy Girl Roll. There isn't normally a wait, so drop in and enjoy a good date night.

I've ate a lot of sushi in my time and this place is one of the better ones. Service is quick enough. The happy hour is alright, pretty regular deals but the fact that it isn't crowded, there's never a wait and the food is great makes it ideal in my mind.

I'm a little spoiled when it comes to sushi ... but I was 'wowed' my first time in with the Chirashi for $18. Nice variety and all very delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. They do a standard happy hour and late night also - beers, $5 wine and $1-3 pieces. There are discounted rolls and apps too. They're also in on the AYCE sushi trend going around. $26 on Sundays. The AYCE menu selection is surprisingly broad - as another reviewer recommended bring a few people so you can try different rolls. You have to eat what you order! I was a little disappointed that AYCE is nigiri only (no sashimi) but I understand given the cost associated with folks coming in and doing all sashimi. Overall great little spot with good service and an unpretentious environment!!

Probably my favorite sushi place in Denver, besides Domo on Osage. Everyone always raves about Sushi Den but this place is so much better. I also prefer this place over the other Highlands sushi joint, Sushi Hai, which just seems to just really attract a bunch of yuppies. The food is always very fresh and going there for lunch is a great deal. I liked this place so much, I kept eating here even when I was pregnant~ that's how fresh and clean this place was! I'm also lucky because it's so close to home and I can just walk here.

Don't know what to eat? Order it all on Sundays. The day of the sabbath is designated all you can eat day at Sushi Bay for $26.99. It would be ideal to come here with at least 4 people to ensure that you get a good variety of rolls. I had my hesitations because my experiences with "All you can eat" sushi places has always been horrendous. Thankfully, contrary to my belief this place had great quality sushi and great tasting rolls. Keep in mind that once you have ordered, you have to eat what was brought to you, otherwise you cant order any more. Also, if you get the all you can eat option, the happy hour drink prices do not apply to you. Not sure why this is, but really, who cares? The sushi is great.

Any perfectly respectable East Coaster knows better than to eat sushi in a land-locked state and certainly not in Denver right? Well, some times you just gotta live! And they put it on dry ice right? Sushi Bay did not let me down. The sushi was fresh, reasonably priced and great portions for their lunch service. I ordered the sushi sampler with california roll, soup and salad. It was way more food than I could eat and had to take the cali roll home with me (also yummy the next day). ;) The restaurant is simple, clean and cute. Service right on point. I'd definitely go back!

Happy Hour is a killer. Excellent service from multiple friendly waiters. The food is superb. And, the Happy Hours prices are almost beyond belief. Perfect raw fish for $1. Highly recommended.

I was torn between a 3 and a 4, but given that I went to Sushi Bay twice in one week, I'll go with the 4. Sushi Bay has a really great lunch deal: 2 rolls + miso soup and salad for $9.50 or 3 rolls for $13, and they give you a pretty big roll selection. I had the 2 roll lunch and was very full. The miso soup is really good. I'm not a big fan of the salad because it's mostly iceberg lettuce and has quite a bit of dressing. The yellow tail scallion and unagi rolls (unagi roll came with unagi and cucumber) were both good, and they drew pretty flowers on my plate; I appreciated the effort to make even a lunch special look pretty. The spicy crispy tuna appetizer is really good; it's a big ball of sushi rice that's breaded, topped with spicy crunch tuna, avocado, and masago, and cut into fours. Their speciality rolls are really good too. My favorite was the spicy girl, black pepper tuna, avocado, and yellow tail, topped with a jalapeno and sriracha sauce--pretty spicy! Their jaguar roll is good too, deep fried eel and avocado, topped with eel sauce. Not a big space or sushi bar, but both are nice. Service is very attentive without being invasive.

Super clean restaurant and very fresh ingredients! Started with a nice seaweed salad and then demolished two specialty rolls! Service was prompt and attentive.

Confused by all the 4 and 5 star reviews - in a city with Domo, Sushi Den, and even a better place down the street (Okinawa), I'm amazed how anyone could think this place could be worth a second visit! We showed up for the AYCE Sunday. It was moderately busy, and it took us awhile to convince the staff to take our order. We then waited 25-30 minutes for a big ol' plate of meh sushi - it didn't come out in waves, no effort in presentation, etc. It was very much, "Hey, we're guessing you came here because you wanted a lot to eat - well, here it is. Whatever." We wanted to put in a second order, but there was a complete service meltdown - after 30 minutes, we gave up, got the bill, and left. The table next to us was having the same problem. Highlights include the kobe beef roll and double salmon - also spicy lobster roll was nice. The rest was just okay - your average suburban-mall sushi. However, with so many better options in the area, it's hard to justify this place even at the reduced AYCE price.

Defiantly a fan of Sushi Bay. Conveniently located on Tennyson Street with all of its local charm. I have been for lunch and dinner and on both occasions I was not disappointed. I would like to go on Sunday for the all you can eat and see how that is. Atmosphere is fun with decorative lighting and neat sushi bar. Fish was fresh and flavorful.... BIG fan of the Kobe beef roll. Wait staff was helpful by making suggestions and funny when I asked for a fork instead of chopsticks! This is my first pick over Sushi Hai or Shiso sushi.

Some of the best sushi we've ever had. Started off with the chicken gyozas which were delicious. Then had some fried calamari which were shaped like onion rings. The calamari were sprinkled with some spicy seasoning and came with spicy mayonnaise for dipping, absolutely delicious! As we moved on to the spicy crunch tuna roll, spicy crunch California and spicy crunch shrimp, we never looked back....all rolls were fresh and good. To end things...we had the mochi ice cream which comes in a variety of flavors and the mango and strawberry was sooo goooood. Staff was attentive and pleasant, definitely going back soon! Update: December 2014 - Not too sure what's happen in the last few months but not only is service really poor but the food proportions have gotten smaller....ordered the same fried calamari and literally received about 4 rings...

Venue is quite nice but the food itself is a complete letdown. The sashimi is not fresh and the rolls were straight from a Safeway deli. Overpriced for the quality. Not the best place for happy hour if you're looking for quality

This place is alright. Okinawa a few doors down is a bit fancier but more $. They have a standard sushi menu and the rolls were well described. I had some of their special rolls and the presentation matched the taste. Good, close, and inexpensive makes for a great sushi joint. I wasn't looking for "date night" sushi so this falls into casual dining for me. Sundays are all you can eat without making you feel like you got cheap, leftover fish.

This is the best value for Sushi I've been to in Denver. Not a whole lot of hype or excess when you are looking for an efficient, affordable and high quality Sushi experience. This place really takes a lot of pretension out of a Sushi experience and brings it back to quality, modesty and a quiet, enjoyable time. With a great happy hour and a killer all you can eat sushi deal on Sundays, this is easily my favorite Sushi place in Denver. All the quality that you'll find with Sushi Sasa, Sushi Den or Sushi Hai without the long waits, annoying crowds or high cost.

I can't express how much I love the happy hour here. Everyday from 3-6, great menu, excellent presentation, delicious and fresh. I go out of my way to eat here and this is the only place I've ever sat down to eat by myself. I look forward to it and I hope this place is around for a long time! Spicy tuna crunch and unagi sashimi are my favs.

I came here for lunch with two co-workers on a Thursday. Found the place on yelp, and even though the reviews were mixed we decided to check it out for ourselves. The lunch specials are great, we are really happy to have a reasonable sushi lunch spot around the area since the other two are sushi sasa and sushi hai. They had a variety of lunch options all between $8 - $12 and we each decided on different ones. Bento Box, Roll Combos (extensive list of options to choose from), a Sushi lunch and a shrimp tempura roll. Each meal came with a miso soup and ginger salad. It was a lot of food, and we were all very satisfied with our meal. The food and the fish were fresh and tastey. The service was friendly and we were in and out of there in 45 minutes, the perfect amount of time for us to get back to work. We will probably be back.

Contemplating Sushi Bay vs. Sushi Hai? Contemplate no more. The atmosphere and service is far more personal, quaint and the sushi beats that at Sushi Hai by a long shot. Portions of sashimi are 2x larger, the presentation is as good if not better. And if you're not a Hai clubber with big city (see: LoDo) collared shirts, fancy designer jeans and gucci gucci shoes, the decision on where to eat great local sushi in the Highlands 'hood is a no-brainer. I don't choose my sushi based on the "who's who" and "need to be seen" crowd. I choose it based on quality and price. Sushi Bay wins this argument easily and is a fine local business which we in the highlands should encourage and help succeed!

It amazes me to see this place with moderate crowds while lesser sushi restaurants in the neighborhood stay packed. The quality of the fish here ranks right with Sushi Sasa as the best I have had in Denver. The white tuna and unagi in particular stand out, although everything we have tried has been excellent.

Berkeley was already pretty high on the "hip-meter" with the best high-end Greek restaurant in Denver (AXIOS), along with one of the best places to enjoy a craft beer and artfull pizza (Hops & Pie), but now we have a great place for sushi. Sushi Bay is an unassuming little place with simple decor and soft-spoken wait staff. it's not until the food is delivered to your table that you realize how amazing this place is. Each plate is a work of art, each bite is a burst of flavor. I prefer sashimi to rolls and the raw tuna, salmon, snapper and squid did not disappoint. I also absolutely loved the tuna and avocado appetizer - fresh and flavorful. Happy hour is a great tine to go as they offer a variety if individual items between $1 - $1.75 each.

Nice place, comfortable booths. Ordered the Dynamite appetizer - lacked twang and spice that the description promised and that is typical of this dish. House cold, filtered sake was solid and an admirable option. You may also order unfiltered and warm house varieties. Of course - as always - I ordered the Chirashi. The quality of the fish was ok. Some pieces fresher, more flavorful than others. The traditional dish was served in a more modern fashion, laid over a scoop of rice w/ a giant leaf (banana?) garnish. Order of Tamago was interesting - no "carmelized" veins in it - just yellow, creamy and custard-like. Waitress picked apart my remaining, uneaten Chirashi rice, with forensic acumen and commented that if I wanted more fish, I could order Sashimi... yes...and the sky is blue. Overall the staff was pleasant and service was fast. I did not partake in HH - perhaps that is the key by the looks of previous reviews. Maybe I'll give that a try if I go again some time.

Sushi Bay is fantastic. I am a giant fan of sushi and the sushi I have had here is equally as good as the mid-level places around town - and they have a $1/piece happy hour. Sushi Bay opened on the 11th, and I went on the 12th - and already their service was fantastic and ironed out. Granted, the place was not packed when I went in at 5:45 - but other places I have reviewed during their first week have been total train wrecks so that they were this good so fast says a lot - but even if the service is great if the fish isn't fresh and prepared well - you aren't going to come back. The selling point (For me at least) is their happy hour. Many of the kinds of fish that you are likely to order are $1/piece. Some of the more expensive pieces of fish are $1.50/piece. Salmon - buck a piece. Squid - buck a piece. Striped bass - buck a piece. Tuna - buck fifty, Yellow tail- buck fifty, Octopus - buck fifty. Just to name the ones I ordered. All the fish was expertly cut, tasted fresh, and was presented artfully. The service was fantastic and not at all bothersome or a nuisance. The interior is really fantastic, you would never know that The Hole had been here if you had not been in it. The hole was dingy, dirty, and the food was horrible. It never made sense given its proximity to DJs and Javier and C.

Went to Sushi Bay during happy hour. It wasn't too busy and we were very well attended by the staff. We ordered hot sake, which was good- seemed pretty standard. Then started with the calamari, which tasted very fresh and wasn't overly battered. I hate when calamari is rubbery in texture and this was not at all, so I did not hold back. We moved on to our sushi course and it did not disappoint. It was fresh, big portion size of the nigiri (we had salmon and tuna), and the rolls had good flavor. The spicy crunch tuna roll was yummy and I liked the crunch factor. In my opinion, Sushi Bay stands above Sushi Hai with regard to price, service, and sushi flavor/freshness...and all without the pretension. Welcome to the neighborhood Sushi Bay!

Great little gem in the Highlands area. We've been in here a few times and the staff are always very friendly and the service is fast, but they are never really that busy. We've really enjoyed the quality of the food and drinks and they also seem to do a lot of take out business. The only draw back is they are closer to 38th than all the other places on Tennyson but they are close to Elitch Lanes! Definitely a great little neighborhood place for sushi.

Best Sushi I have had in Denver, hands down!!!! Super unique rolls, banana roll was amazing. Strange enough, the brussel sprout bacon app was to die for!! The house happy hour wine was very smooth and tasty. I will never go anywhere else for sushi, I'm so excited to have found this place!

I have to go back here during happy hour. Or maybe just go back in general, perhaps it was a bad night for fish (Tuesday a bad day for sushi perhaps?). But it wasn't very good. The wife and I had been delaying trying this place out because I'm cautious about sushi. Not about the raw fish aspect of it, but about the fact that this is no real sliding value scale when it comes to sushi restaurants. If you get a specialty roll, it is going to cost between $11 and $15 no matter how good the sushi is. It's just a given. We tried 4 rolls, and 3 of them were flavorless to just ok. The red dragon roll was the lone exception, and it was delicious. The belly roll, the spicy girl roll, and the naruto roll were rather bland. The naruto roll was wrapped in cucumber, and the cucumber was far too thick and overpowered any flavor of the fish. But even in the other rolls the flavor of the fish was lacking. We also tried the seaweed salad, which I thought was unimpressive and also lacking in flavor. The night culminated in me being very upset that I spent over $60 (tax and tip included) for a very unsatisfying meal. That's way too much to spend on a so-so dinner for two. A sushi restaurant is only as good as the flavor of the fish it serves, and the fish here on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 was not very good at all. I'll try again during happy hour on a rush night. Maybe it will be better.

This place is great, very relaxed and not the typical Denver trendy. The happy hour is great, with good deals on sashimi and rolls, the saki selection is limited but offers some good basic choices including a decent house cold. Order the spicy tuna, not "crunch" for some really great basic sushi. I love it! My rating is for the decent food and great ambiance, a nice change from the more "trendy" yet still average options.

I stopped by Sushi Bay after noticing it on a recent walk up Tennyson. I'm glad that it didn't take too long for someone to move into the space the The Hole left, and I'm also kind of glad they did away with the purple paint. I was only in The Hole a couple of times, but it strikes me that Sushi Bay has completely and totally redone the interior. The outside is still some sort of odd stucco treatment, but the huge windows on either side of the door can be opened, and the interior has a nice, simple, modern feel too it, which contrasts with the relentlessly 80's music. What it doesn't have is a lot of space, so if they take off it is going to be hard to get in, unless there are hidden depths of seating. There were about a half dozen tables out front, a couple more up a few steps near the bar, which seats about 8 or 10. The quality of the sushi was just fine. I thought the tako (octopus) was some of the best I've had in Denver, and the maguro (tuna) and sake (salmon) compared favorable with anywhere else I've been. The yellowtail and scallion roll was terrific, and the presentation was very nice, with an arrangement of 3 normally sliced pieces, and 4 pieces sliced with an angle on one end. The staff was attentive without hovering, and the food arrived quickly. I'm used to being able to see more of what the chefs are doing when I sit at the bar, but the partition in front of me was opaque, Not a bad thing just unexpected. The prices were pretty typical, and their happy hour menu look like a pretty good deal (roughly 1/2 off on a more limited menu of the standards). Let's hope that the neighborhood can support two sushi places, because I quite enjoyed Sushi Bay.

Ate here last night and really enjoyed the fancy platter laid before us! The selection of sushi was extensive, even the non-sushi options looked appetizing. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We just moved to the area and were looking for a good sushi joint that we could enjoy on a regular basis. I'm not going to say it was the best sushi I've ever had, but it was still yummy.

Had a great happy hour dinner date with my daughter on First Friday night 10/5/12. $1 to $1.75 a piece for large cuts of fresh fish on happy hour menu from 3-6pm inlcudes Snapper, Black Pepper Tuna, Striped Bass, Octopus, Shrimp, Crab. Spicy Crunch rolls were delicious and well presented. $2.50 for small hot sake on HH menu. The service was friendly and prompt. I will go back here to my new local sushi joint. Beats Sushi Hai hands down and is better than shiso sushi too.

Being a sushi lover who lives close by, I had really high hopes for Sushi Bay. My wife and I were extremely excited to try it out and went on a Friday night, during their first week. Unfortunately, they fell short of our hopes. We were trying hard to love it, but as the meal went on it became clear that this wasn't going to be a new neighborhood spot for us. We started with the Spicy Crispy Tuna appetizer...it was pretty good, but difficult to eat with chop sticks. I then had miso soup, which was actually amazing, and my wife had a cucumber salad that was very good as well. That being said, its miso soup and cucumber salad...they are hard to mess up. We ordered a bunch of different rolls and nigiri, but none of it was anything special. The only roll I really remember was the kobe beef roll and it was pretty bad. The fish seemed somewhat fresh, but just didn't seem to be that high quality. Overall, this place was 100% "meh" for me. It was by no means terrible, but it certainly wasn't great. Everything about it, the food, the decor, the service, was middle of the road. We'll probably give it another chance, for Happy Hour maybe, but I certainly won't go in with high hopes.

Every bit as good as the Sushi we've had in the past out on the West Coast! We were there last night. We've tried a few different Sushi places here in CO in the past year but none have been as good as Sushi Bay. The fish was extremely fresh, the presentation was great, and the service was excellent. We were very happy with the portions especially with the Sashimi Dinner. Nice thick slices of fish and very tasty! We will definitely be going back. The restaurant itself was nicely appointed and in a good location.

We usually have gone to Sushi Hai for Highlands sushi but I think we will be switching our loyalty! The sushi at Sushi Bay was fresh and tasty and the presentation was beautiful, our server was very prompt and friendly and they had great specials. Even better, our total check for an appetizer, 3 special rolls, and a bottle of sake was less than what it would usually cost for just the rolls at Sushi Hai. Awesome experience!

This is one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had. The only good thing is the other couple we went with suggested it. We went on a Monday evening around 7:30 pm. Only a few tables. Took a long time to get a drink order and then they insisted that we order food first. It was scary as we watched our server look up how to make a martini. When told the martini was to be on the rocks she served it in a martini straight up glass filled with ice. Ordered gyoza and a dynamite. They cut the gyoza lengthwise, have never seen that done. Thought it was cheap of them to do that. We ordered the chef's special sushi for two. No explanation as to what the fish was. Two things looked like raw hamburger patties, and tasted bad. I do not think the sushi tasted fresh. We had a lot of people hovering over the table and one another, which only added to the unpleasant experience.

I love sushi bay! It is my go to place. They are consistently friendly and serving delicious food. The staff is attentive and really nice. They also have a great happy hour. I have not had a sushi roll or maki that I was disappointed with. I went to Sushi Bay and then Sushi Hai and was far more impressed with Sushi Bay. I thought they were priced better and the sushi was tastier. It is in a great location in the Highlands and it fits in so unassumingly. If you find yourself in a toss up, choose Sushi Bay. The fish is fresh, the staff is welcoming, and the ambiance is relaxing. Great for a weekend date or weekday treat!

I really enjoyed Sushi Bay. If you like Sushi Shiso in Edgewater you're bound to enjoy this place as it's exactly the same. Food Network on the tele, clean, music is a bit better at this one and the sushi is pretty tasty. The rolls we ordered were okay, but the sushi was delicious. The white tuna tasted buttery and melted in my mouth. Their happy hour is amazing as well. $1 sushi, discounted rolls ($4-$5), and you won't find oysters as opposed to Shiso. The service was great as was the food. It's nice to know I won't have to travel to Edgewater for an amazing sushi happy hour anymore!

YES! Sushi on Tennyson. The food is fantastic, the owners are fun and friendly and we've been hoping for good sushi in this neighborhood for years. However, for some reason, new parents love to fill this place with hordes of loud, misbehaved kids. At times it sounds like a pediatricians waiting room in this place - during ear ache season. So, be sure to take a look out front before you enter - if you see a sidewalk full of SUV sized baby carriages, keep walking - if the coast is clear, get on in there, you'll love it.

Although other Yelpers really seem to like this place, I have to disagree. My friends and I decided to go there for dinner on Friday night. We had to wait about 10 minutes, which was fine, but from the moment we went in there, the staff seemed frazzled. My friend checked on the table and it was as if they had forgot about us based on their reaction. I don't think they have a hostess on duty, so I assume the wait staff handles the seating. Bad Idea. Too much responsibility when you are busy and inevitably something will be forgotten or miscommunicated. Anyway, once we were seated we were given water promptly and our orders were taken, but messed up TWICE. My friends don't like fish eggs and they were very adamant about NO fish eggs on the California Roll. The waitress repeated that information, so we know she heard. We also ordered 2 orders of the Unagi, but only had one order delivered. When the sushi arrived and the California Rolls had fish eggs on them, we politely pointed out that it was not how we ordered. Instead of taking responsibility for the mistake, the waitress said, "I guess I didn't hear you." Um...yeah, that's why you repeated the order to us. She reluctantly took it back and returned the sushi correctly. After we ate the sushi, we decided to order one more roll, which was a shrimp tempura roll. We had to wait about 20 minutes for that order to arrive, which is not only abnormal, but unacceptable. Tired of waiting, we asked what's up with our order? "Oh, it be worked on now. Thank you for patience." Whatever! Lastly, the bill arrives and it is incorrect. They charged us for two orders of Unagi, but we only got one Unagi order. I let the waitress know this information and she looks puzzled and tries to explain to me that we one order is 2 pieces of Unagi. I can count and I know that we had 2 PIECES of Unagi, not 2 orders, otherwise, we would have had 4 pieces of Unagi and no problem with the bill. She RELUCTANTLY credited my card with the $5.00 for the order. Anyway..... The sushi did taste fresh, but I've had better. I also ordered the Spicy Tuna and it was just OK. I respect that every restaurant has growing pains, but for a small place that was busy, but not slammed, the experience wasn't good. One final thought...it was HOT in the restaurant. Either they don't have A/C or it was not working. We sat near the thermostat and the temp read 87 degrees, not a comfortable environment. I'll continue to go to my other favorite sushi restaurants, Sushi Sasa and others.

The service here was very good. The sushi was very standard. The spicy yellow tail crunch roll was nice in that it had a lot more fish than rice. However, it was not spicy at all. I could not detect even a hint of spicy. The salmon sushi was stringy but the hamachi was divine. The unagi was so-so. Overall, just kind of, well, okay. I do love the location and the kind and attentive service. However, I was not particularly wowed by the food.

This was not our first time ordering from Sushi Bay, and it won't be the last!! The fish is fresh and tasty and this time we called in a pick up order. The employees are friendly, service is prompt and they are very professional. We enjoyed every bite! Soup, sashimi and two rolls which were picked as a surprise by the chef... yum.. one was spicy and the other was just plain old delicious... perfect yin and yang combination. What a great meal in front of a fire on a Sunday night. Thank you Sushi bay!!

Had lunch here recently, I thought I got the special chef's treatment with the thick sashimi, but it looks like other guests have experienced this also. I haven't experience such generous amounts of fresh fish in sushi or sashimi except in California. The rolls were flavorful, the rice just the right texture and stickiness, I guess I won't have to make the trek down to South Pearl for top notch sushi anymore.

I'm giving Sushi Bay one star to lower the 4 star average. This place is not a 4 star sushi establishment, I grew up on an island and know what fish should taste like and the sushi here was ok at best. Service and ambiance were great but the food....questionable. Very expensive for the quality and quantity...I will continue eating at the best sushi restaurant in Denver....Sushi Tazu...where fish tastes like it should!!!

I LOVE this place. Their sushi is the best in NW Denver. Large pieces of fish, creative and delicious rolls. Plus, they are sooo nice here -- the service is attentive. Their sushi is as good as Sushi Den, but cheaper and without the wait. Hope that they make it in this neighborhood!

I've only done takeout here. About as good as it gets for takeout sushi. They have it ready in 10 - 20 minutes, it's packed up nice and neat, and they don't screw you on portions. Before you complain that it's expensive - you're getting fresh fish. Take out. In a landlocked state. The Jalapeno roll is great - think Japanese Jalapeno Popper.

Its with regret that I must say this place has bad sushi, plain and simple. I received a menu in the mail and was excited to see reasonable prices and great lunch specials. I love sushi so when I can find it for less I'm always happy. I realize that with lower prices comes a lesser quality anyone who has eaten at Opal knows this to be true. That being said this was beyond the wiggle room of acceptable lower quality. 1) my sushi was warm 2) I got the rainbow roll which is an absolute favorite of mine, the rice was slimy, the sashimi cuts were small and poorly cut. 3) the yellow fin and tuna were okay but they smelled like they had been sitting out for a while. 4) the salad was sub par with the mayo based dressing being the disappointment (iceberg lettuce is to be expected). 5. The miso soup was okay but how can you get that wrong? Ultimately I could have gone to safeway and had better quality. I've lived in San Diego for a little while and had amazing sushi so my standards have been high for some time but I am fully aware that Colorado has some places that have the ability to match or beat coastal joints. One being in Greeley CO of all places. Basically this place has to recognize that 5 blocks down and 5 blocks over is a place called Sushi Hai. Right now there is no comparison.

This was our first time there and I really liked it.Friendly staff and affordable sushi .Absolutely delicious ,way better than sushi Hai.

Forget about the "Happy Hour" rolls. The signature roll I had - "Spicy Girl" was right on the mark. Additionally, I'm big on a sea weed salad and this one was on a bed of cucumber - make sure to use your floss afterwards.
