Oh Chef Troy Chef Troy Chef Troy.... I LOVE all of your other restaurants and hopefully this one gets all of the MANY kinks worked out of it very soon. We visited Sunnyside about a week after opening and I must say,if I wasn't such a fan of chef Troy and his other restaurants, i would not be back. We waited in line for 25 minutes before actually placing our order and finally being granted permission to sit down. After ordering, we sat down and again the wait for the food was horrible. Waiters and waitresses were all over the place. They brought the wrong food over twice. We never received some of our appetizers. Overall, the burger wasn't half bad, but the overall experience would leave you wishing you had never left downtown to come to this place. I do plan on going back just to see if things have gotten better and maybe our experience was just because things were still so new.

Third time and still love it. Small menu makes it easy with some great sides and of course beer and drink menu is pretty sweet. Great neighborhood gem.

I was really excited for this place because me loves a good burger. I was pretty disappointed because I felt like the nine dollar burger without fries would have been better as a five dollar burger that came with fries. Just not worth the money when there are better and cheaper options in the neighborhood. That said, cool decor and good beer list but I will definitely go elsewhere when I want a burger.

That was a pretty solid burger, and by solid I mean really good. The portions are exceptional. This place doesn't serve you an enormous, overly greasy pound of meat. We were satisfied without the fat dripping onto the plate and a soggy bun to go with it. The regular and sweet potato fries were both delish as well. And besides, Monday is happy hour all day.

I gave Sunnyside a 4 star for its potential. I understand they just opened but the ordering process was a bit lengthy and confusing. After going once I understand it much better but it was semi-busy when we entered and it will back up if more than eight people enter in a five minute span. The idea is to start with ordering your drink then proceeding to food but by the time we sat down we had communicated with 4+ people. That seemed a little inefficient to get a burger and beer. The atmosphere was spot on however. Once we got the beer and burger we were impressed. The inside has a great feel and the open garage doors made for a comfortable setting. $3 beers daily for Happy Hour from 3-6 which was nice. The prices were expected except for the side of fries and sweet potato fries. Our group thought that was a little steep for the small portion you got, especially after ordering an $8/9 burger. All in all I'll definitely be going back. The burger was well prepared and atmosphere was inviting.

Burgers good enough to keep me coming back for more. For my first go, I got the Ohh Mami Burger. Made with delicious, juicy bison, I also got the succulent warm spinach and artichoke dip. The second time around, the Garden of the Gods burger was calling my name. Everything was cooked to perfection. Also thanks to the extraordinary server Noel for bringing my order with swiftness and grace.

This review is for the beer only (I would give it 3.5 stars) we did not have any food so I cannot comment on the size of the burgers ( which seems to be one of the biggest complaints). Our server was attentive enough for just a quick round of beers... She was familiar with all the beers on draft and answered a few of the questions we had. The establishment appeared like a cool place it was getting pretty busy on the Monday night we were there... The patio was alittle on the small side but there is a fire pit that you can roast s'mores on which sounds amazing! They sell little packages with everything you need for s'mores! Sounds amazing! Beer selection was decent... They had just completed an epic tap takeover so they still had some of those beers... And a small selection of bottles.

Vegetarians beware. Their $8 Garden of the Gods burger is just a burnt Boca burger patty. They have a beautiful wall of pickle jars as a display but don't actually give you any pickles with your burger! For a pickle fiend like me, this is a crime. Nice atmosphere and service.

I didn't think the ordering process was too bad. Maybe I was just there on a good day. I'm sure it will get a more streamlined process as the newness wears off. The adult milkshakes... YUMMY!!! And they provide a nice mellow buzz. I'm not a dessert person, but I could DEFINITELY make an exception for these once or twice a week! The Thrilla in Vanilla one is wonderful! The burgers were very good as well, very hardy. I was almost too full after most of my burger and some of my French fries were devoured. The fries are separate btw. May be a good idea to share a side of fries. A whole burger and order of fries is a lot of food. They have regular fries and sweet potato fries to choose from. The regular fries came out just crunchy enough and not swimming in oil, which is lovely. They have a very yummy chipotle ranch, if you like to dip your fries in that kind of thing (I do). There are choices as to which patty you can have with your burger. I'm a veggie, so I chose the black bean veggie patty. Also very good. I liked all the choices so I didn't have to have a plain old, boring veggie burger. The prices are very reasonable, even with two alcoholic shakes on the bill. I live just down the street, so I will be planning many more trips to my new neighborhood Burger Bar!

Went for lunch on a Wednesday, so no wait and not crowded. Loved the diverse burger combinations and the salads sounded spectacular. Underwhelmed by the size of the burgers for the 2 hungry boys, but good size for me. Shared fries, sweet potatoes, and onion rings, all good-fries were the least fave. Skinny marg was yummy and I loved the spicy rim. Guys had the spiked milkshakes which were underwhelming, with regard to alcohol, so switched over to real drinks :-) Will return to sample more of the menu and happy hour.

3.5 stars for this place, though I need to make a third visit to break the tie. Good things: very tasty burgers, cheap (a la carte style) and with lots of different combinations on the menu, plus a build-your-own as you'd expect. Huge parking lot, which is rare in this neighborhood. Pretty decent beer list, though it was exactly the same both times I've visited. Nice happy hour, which apparently goes all day on Mondays as well. Bad things: service can be sketchy, as mentioned in other reviews. TVs only hang in the middle over the bar, so you have to choose your table and spot carefully. Side dishes are minimal and way overpriced. Burgers only come in one size (1/3 lb), which may not be enough for some people. All told, I like the place, though there are some things they could do better. Since they haven't been open for that long, maybe they'll get there eventually.

I had to update my review since I had only been when they just opened and their ordering process needed some work. Today, I stopped in to grab something quick for lunch. The service was great, I received my order quickly, and it tasted really, really good! I got the Gambler which was amazing - fried avocado? YUM! They have parking (just about unheard of in this part of town) and a fantastic patio. Definitely worth a visit!!

I'm more a 4.5'r on Sunnyside! We recently moved to the 'hood and have REALLY been enjoying the SBB burgers and HELL-O the fries are amazing as well. The shakes are a nice touch, but I love, love, love that they serve black cheery soda [personally]. The buns are fabulous and the burgers are usually really juicy. Try the Hipster (ADD AN EGG). This place is a great addition to the neighborhood and i'm glad to see it take the """risk""" of this area! Excited to see where SBB helps the neighborhood get! Good job to the owners/managers on this. You're doing great and I appreciate ya :-*

I think I've found my new favorite spot on 38th Ave. Both the food and drinks are reasonable and delicious and the service is wonderful. So far I've tried the Yankee rose burger, chicken sandwich and fried pickles and loved them all! The government cheese reference on their menu is really funny too. I'm not much of a drinker but I would definitely recommend the Broken Down Corvette cocktail. It's huge and tasty! I also really like how they have huge garage door windows so when it's nice out you can eat indoors but still feel a nice breeze flowing throw. There is also plenty of off-street parking. I'll definitely be back.

For one of Troy Guard's restaurants, I'm really not impressed. The burgers were just okay. Especially compared to how amazing TAG burger bar is, I had higher hopes for this place The patties are really small compared to all other burger places. I'm also really bummed about the green chili cheese fries. I asked for a half order since the server had emphasized how HUGE the regular size is. Even then, I was still impressed with the size of the half order. I really wanted to dive right into a pile of comforting green chili goodness but I felt like I dived into a pile of mud. The green chili lacked in flavor and spice, the fries were overcooked and tasted burnt. It was just completely opposite of what I was expecting. I will praise them on their exceptionally friendly staff. I've read reviews for this place before that the ordering process made no sense They must have changed that before I came in because it was pretty simple ordering from the bartender since I sat at the bar. I will give this place another try though and definitely try one of their boozey shakes.

We were visiting from Ohio and the SunnySide was just a short walk from where we were staying. We ended up going there twice that week. Weather was awesome so all the doors were open to the patio giving it an open air feel. Service and food were fantastic!

We've been relatively long term customers since these guys have opened. Love the mesh of decent sized salads, options to add protein to any salad if you're slightly more hungry, good fries, great fry dipping sauce, fun burger menu and option to build your own, good beer selection & booze and lets not forget the boozy shakes y'all. My favorite burger on their menu is the hipster with pimento and bacon. The problem we've had is that as time has gone by our service has become a little less friendly and oddly the burgers have become almost impossibly salty for us. These issues have become consistent enough to make us stop coming for a while. I've waited a long time to post this review as I don't take even giving slightly negative reviews lightly.

A nice addition to the neighborhood. Points on for one of the best patios in the area. Staff is warm and welcoming, great happy hour specials, a nice drink menu and excellent burgers. Not quite in contention for 'best burger in town' but solid offerings and some nice twists you won't find everywhere. Well worth a visit! I look forward to seeing how they evolve.

The burger was awesome, decently inexpensive, fried pickles were awesome for only $4 (tastes like a clausen pickle - which in my opinion are the best). Good beer selection, I liked how the waiteress used the iPad appropriately and was not distracting, and quick service. Only complaint was the music was pretty loud, but that may have been cuz I was a little hungover as well. :) I'll definitely go back soon.

Beets and goat cheese on a perfectly cooked hamburger patty? Yes please! I had been interested in trying this place after hearing about it from a coworker last fall. It's in a developing area and the business and location are great. I am a little surprised by their low review average, however there are some odd things happening. 1st- when you walk in its a little confusing if you are supposed to order at the counter or take a seat. 2nd- the employees don't seem 100% engaged most of the time. I attributed that mostly to my visit being late lunch on a Monday. We sat at the bar. The menu offers beer pairing suggestions for the burgers so I decided to peruse before deciding on anything. I love Epic IPA- Escape to Colorado and it was paired with a burger with beets, basil aioli, arugula and goat cheese, perfect for me! My husband got the burger with pimento cheese and a PBR. He gets annoyed by order fries on the side. I made the decision we would forgo fries for the kettle chips with fat boy sauce for $4 as a starter. The kettle chips were huge for the price and delicious! Fat boy sauce? Sour cream piled with green onions, bacon and cheddar. These chips were perfectly cooked and seasoned, I'm still thinking about them. Both of our burgers were delicious! My husband already wants to return. I was a little turned off by the bartender ignoring and avoiding a friendly but unkempt man who came in for a beer while we were eating. He seemed a little rugged but he was nice and paid promptly so it just seems to me like she could have been friendlier.

Yum. I love a good burger and this place serves them up right :) I have had their Salmon burger, their umami burger and their paleo burger. All are delish. I particularly love their paleo burger. I love the taste variations in all their different burger types. Their salmon burger even has quinoa - yummers. Served fresh and with friendly smiling faces, I really love this place. I love that they have free parking too :) It's going to be a busier spot in town in a few years, it's nice that they have their own parking lot. Fries are good, service is awesome. I love that they have Boylans on tap - delish through and through! I'm coming back for some awesome milkshakes in the future. I will definitely be back again :)

I could see how the ordering process might get complicated due to how the flow is setup when you walk in. However, we went here for dinner and they've stopped doing the order up front thing. They say is at a nice booth. You get the sports bar feel with lots of tv's circling the bar. They have large garage doors that open ip to a patio. We had the salmon patty on the Palio burger with multigrain bun and it was yummy. The ingredients tasted fresh and light. The onion rings were great and the super kale salad had lots of avocado and blueberries and was awesome. They have a goo drink menu and even some neat boozy shakes. Pretty big craft beer menu and even a decent wine list for a burger joint. I live that you can get a healthy burger. I'd definitely go here over the Royal any day.

I try burgers all over town and I have been watching the reviews closely. My lower rating comes from the size of their burger patty (5 1/2 ounces). I ordered just a plain cheeseburger because I really wanted to try the beef. Just wasn't enough for me to actually call it a burger. Better establishments use between 6-10 oz. The staff are cute but not real responsive. It was a Sunday afternoon and there were only four customers there. Not once did I get "how's everything" or "can I get you anything". As a matter of fact I had to walk to the kitchen and ask the cook if I could get a few pickles. I'm not a real basher of establishments but this place didn't "WOW" me. I can't possibly see how they're going to stay around. Not going for a second try. Hopdoddy at Union Station and Bad Daddy's Burgers are at the top of my list. Get me a big juicy burger please!!!

Stopped in yesterday for a quick bite to eat. I have been here before and am happy to see that new items have been added to the menu which was a pleasant surprise! I tried the Brussel sprouts which was a new item added to the menu and can say that they were seasoned well but were a bit under cooked and slightly hard to eat. The boozy shakes are always a good add on to your meal. I recommend the green chili, but it is quite spicy! I like to dip my fries it it. Pretty delicious. Burgers are pretty solid. I tried the bison burger this visit and probably will stick with the standard burger next time. Prices are pretty average. I'd recommend stopping in and trying it out for yourself the next time you are in the area. Establishment is now serving brunch. I would definitely try brunch in the future to see how it is! Overall, this experience wasn't the best, but my previous experiences were solid!

In the midst of a borderline desperate craving for a cheeseburger I was driving to another restaurant when I drove past this Sunnyside joint. In typical Colorado driving fashion, I immediately halted, did a 4 point turn in the middle of the street, splashed some snow on pedestrians with my Subaru and hauled ass into the restaurant. Just kidding, I don't own a Subaru. Big points here for having several meat choices. The turkey patty I ordered was delish. My burger was great, I did a custom one so I can't speak for their pre-designed options. We ordered fried pickles, which despite being utterly delicious, was basically like one single breaded pickle cut up. Maybe not even one whole pickle. For $5 I want some substantial pickle-age on my plate. Their fries we pretty good. I'd definitely come back to try one of their milkshakes.

Soooo bad. Do not waste your time and money at this establishment. The burgers were terrible, mine was served raw throughout. I was asked how I would like my burger cooked, I replied " medium well" the waiter informed me they used a "pink or not pink" method to differentiate doneness. I should have said no pink, my burger came out, the bottom bum soaked w partially cooked blood juice. I like a juicy delicious burger but not that kind of juice. The fried onions that topped the burger were cold and tasted a day old. I alerted the waiter (he was apologetic/not his fault) and he offered to replace my burger, but at that point I was kind of over it. I ate the cooked sides and we bounced as fast as possible. We go out once a week and this was our choice. It will not be our choice again. Bad.

I really enjoyed my burger here. I'm not sure what the negative reviews are about. Give a restaurant a little time to fine-time their process and iron out the wrinkles, people. They've been here two months. I had the Yankee Rose burger and was perfectly happy with my meal. Staff was really nice, I was greeted immediately, and the manager stopped by to make sure we were happy. Welcome to Sunnyside! I'll be back.

Went for happy hour. We ordered burgers, OK, it doesn't come with fries, so you have to add on for that (hate that) but whatever, when I asked what all comes on the cheeseburger I ordered, she said nothing, just cheese.... OK I'd like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and ketchup- she said, no problem but there will be additional charges for these....say what? Even Wendy's gives you these items at no charge. The burger was just ok, not worth the cost, in my opinion, the fries were pretty good, but definitely not delicious enough or quantifiable enough to have their own charge and the drinks, well, I guess folks liked the offerings on brews, but I ordered the special of the day, which was the red sangria and it looked and tasted a bit stale, as if it had been sitting around with fruit in it all day, just not quite right. I will say the others at the table enjoyed their food, so maybe I just got the "off" burger. Anyways, we probably won't be back.

I was surprised by all the negative reviews...this place has a great beer selection and a fun & interesting burger selection....if that's what you're looking for- then you'd be happy to end up here! The burgers are also a reasonable size -not giant and piggy like so many places give you... Maybe that's what people are complaining about- but for me, this place has it figured out!

Yikes. Have you ever seen the episode of Portlandia where a girl tries a new restaurant and she has to wander around for hours before actually being able to get a sandwich? Because they are trying to create a "dining experience"? This is just like that. When you walk through the door you are greeted by a hostess/host and it seems like a normal place! Then the host hands you a piece of scratch paper? and you see a sign above them with LITERALLY 5 or 6 steps on how to get your food... I should've turned around then. You then stand in line next to the bar, where you can order a drink if you'd like. Another person comes up to you and asks if you've been assigned a table yet...um no? They point to a table and take your piece of paper and write something on it... then give it back to you. Now you're waiting in line to order your burger. Super great looking burgers and sides and milkshakes that look fantastic. You can definitely see TAG in there. Looks so good! You order and pay fast casual style. (BTW I hate paying 10 bucks for a burger I had to stand in line for but I get that the fast casual thing is trendy). You walk to your table to sit down and a few seconds later ANOTHER person wanders up and asks you if you've been assigned this table. Yes? This person then brings you your burger. PHEW! You have now spoken to like 5 people who work there. My burger was cold when I got it. Maybe because of all the steps it takes to get it? Not sure, but not great tasting. Meat gets dry and gross when it gets cold. Another confusing thing: how do you tip the guy who brought your burger (or not tip) if you've already paid...? The particular night I was there, something terrible happened in the kitchen. They had to stop serving people for, I'm not exaggerating, 30 minutes at least. The line backed up out the door. They had the manager talking to patrons but no one would tell anyone what was going on! It was fantastic people watching, which was the best part of the night. Worse yet, I overheard one of the servers saying...I don't know what's happening but we're brand new and this has only happened twice....TWICE the kitchen has had to shut down? I can only assume they ran out of something? Or someone passed out in a vat of hot oil? Come on, sunnyside. Just switch to normal serving and keep your burgers warm and people will love you.

I really enjoy Sunnyside Burger Bar. I've been here a few times now and the service and the food is consistently good. The Fried Chicken Sandwich with sriracha ranch is one of my faves. I've also tried the Hippy Dippy burger with roasted beets and goat cheese. I was skeptical about beets on a burger but man did it hit the spot with a bit of sweet and savory. One of these Fridays I'll hang out late enough for karaoke!

I really really want to give Sunnyside Burger Bar a higher rating because I have had some very good experiences there. But, I've also had some bad experiences and the inconsistency is killing me! Sometimes the service is friendly and quick and other times it is gruff, inattentive and slow. I don't get it. I know there's been some complaints about the size of the burger but I happen to think it's the perfect size and the Hippy Dippy is my favorite on the menu. Fries and onion rings have always been a hit and the beer selection (even though they're often out of stuff or don't have the beer menu updated) is usually good. I just desperately want SSBB to step it up a notch and I sadly have a feeling that no one at the establishment cares enough to do that.

Well, maybe I came hoping for too much based on reviews and publicity. Dined inside at the bar. Cute, sparsely decorated place. My requirement for a good burger is a decent size and a proper medium rare. They almost got there. Burger was on the small side and was maybe pink in a place or two. The highlight was the bun, which could be damning with faint praise for sure, but was actually a really good flavorful, toasted bun. My friend said his salmon salad was quite good, but this is a burger bar, you know. Small, but decent selection of local beers. My IPA recommended by the bartender was underwhelming. So, a "fine" place, but I will not choose here over other solid, consistently good burger places in the Highlands.

Worst. Burger. Ever. If you're going to call yourself "Sunnyside Burger Bar," you've gotta have good burgers. Scratch that. Great burgers. We went here on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the hipster; my wife ordered . . . who cares? The burgers were so thin, dry, and scarcely garnished that we both choked down a half each and split, feeling seriously ripped off. The bartender didn't even ask us if we wanted a box. He knew better. What's worse is that he is from Atlanta (the South!) and served us that trash with a straight face. The onion rings were also terrible. What's strange is that these guys have a ton of competition and, 3 months later, are still serving these awful burgers. We have HIghland Tap and Burger, Meade Street Station, My Brother's Bar, West End Tavern, Fire on the Mountain, etc. This place might fly in some British suburb, but not in Colorado where burgers are kind of our thing. On the plus side: Good buildout. Decent beer selection. The booze shakes seem gimmicky and kinda dumb. We won't be back until there's a giant sign posted outside that says, "You spoke and we listened. Kitchen under new management. Burgers actually good now. We beg you. Please give us another chance." I'm not holding my breath.

Weird ordering, ok, I'm able to adapt. I'll flow with ya on this one. Tipping at the register before I even know if your worth it? Not cool. I'm in the service industry too and this is something to be considered! I've been here twice and Troy did a nice job with the menu. Burgers are imaginative, sides are tasty, ambiance a plus. Great addition to the neighborhood! My experience... walked in on a Sunday evening when it wasn't that busy and had to ask someone to wipe of the table I was given Had to get my own silverware even tho there was an employee rolling silverware at the table next to me Waited 30 for a hamburger I prepaid for and... I learned my colors in grade school, that was not pink Interesting, the manager kept telling people they could find him downstairs. Maybe if he was on the floor I wouldn't have so much to say in this review, Hmmm?

Excellent and interesting burgers and a solid selection of beers on tap. Usually not too busy and you can always get a bar seat. A little pricey for drinks after HH but overall a super solid option in this hood.

Make sure you order a appetizer, when dining here. While the burgers have a great flavor, they are definitely on the small side. I left hungry even with an order of fries.

I have to say, I don't write reviews. But because I want local businesses to succeed in my neighborhood I felt compelled to write one. I also want to say I have read no reviews so that I wouldn't have any preconceptions or biases in my review. On the good side, these guys did a great job renovating this space. It is very nice inside and did a lot to make the space cool and welcoming. The outdoor patio in the back looked great. On the down side, the food is nothing to get excited about. Although the toppings on my burger seemed intriguing and sounded delicious, they didn't execute well. The burger itself was bland if not tasteless. I was also given two options of "pink" or "not pink", which concerns me because I worry that means medium rare or well done (I'm a medium kind of guy). The really big downside is the completely awkward ordering process (they have a staff member explain it to everyone when they walk in, which seems to confuse people even more). Essentially, you are directed by a host to the bar which is in the middle of the restaurant. There you order your alcoholic beverages, then you walk further to another host who asks you what table you want to sit at and she gives you a number, THEN you order your food from a cashier, then you sit and they deliver the food to you. Our "waitress" did not have any idea what (non-alcoholic) drinks we ordered so we had to tell her. I have no idea who thought this process was a good idea, but it is rather inefficient, confusing, and not an optimal experience. What's wrong with sitting down and letting someone take your order? What is unfortunate is this place has a lot of potential. They did a great job with the space and obviously put some money into it. But the awkward ordering experience and mediocre food kills it. There is simply too much competition in the burger space in Denver, and many other places rise to the top. Bottom line is that this place is trying to be too different with an ordering process that simply isn't necessary and awkward, burgers that sound fancier than they are good, and only giving you two options on how you want it cooked. There is hope, though! If this joint can simplify the ordering process by just letting people sit down and order like normal and improve the quality of their food (and maybe provide a little more variety in their food options beyond burgers), they can potentially do really well. I hope that they do. I will wait a few months and return, but if it doesn't improve there are simply too many better places to get a burger in this town.

Despite not having been back yet, I plan to. The owner emailed me to inform me that they listened to their clients. They now serve the old fashioned way....no confusion!!!! Simple fix! And with that I am sure things are MUCH SMOOTHER. I am looking forward to visiting again this summer in hopes I can then upgrade my review to a 5 STAR!!!!

Sunnyside's staff is so amazing! They went above and beyond to meet my high expectations. ;) The nachos were so fresh, and the happy hour beer selection was a plus. If you like a juicy burger, focused waitstaff, and a delicious beer... this is your perfect neighborhood hangout.

So happy I finally got to check this place out! After finding out that Troy Guard was one of the investors backing this, it was instantly added to my foodie list of places to visit. I ended up going with my parents and a friend for some low key birthday celebrations last week. I had read reviews in the Westword about the service being a little different than most, and that definitely was one of the reasons for detracting one star from my review. Basically you enter the restaurant and smack dab in the middle is sort of a bar area where you line up to order drinks first and then your food. Being the beer snob that I am, it took me a little while to figure out what I wanted to order along with my family who weren't quite sure what beer to order either. Luckily the bartender was gracious enough to give my parents samples of beer to try before they made their final decision. I could see this being a huge issue however if this was a Friday night and the place was packed. Again, I felt the same way about ordering the food. We ended up settling on the Hipster, Hangover and Gambler (I can't recall what the last burger ordered was). After taking our seats, we were then greeted by a server, Tyler, who said he would take care of us for the rest of the night. Water was poured promptly, food was served in a reasonable amount of time and we began to stuff our faces. I was in heaven with my choice, the Hipster. I hadn't had pimento cheese since I was a kid, but had heard rave reviews about this burger. Hands down was awesome!! I didn't want to share a bite with anyone. The others seemed to all enjoy their burgers as well. Fries weren't bad either, just a little hot from being fresh out of the fryer. We ended the night by sharing 2 boozy shakes, the Thrilla in Vanilla and Count Me In! They were definitely boozy alright, but I wasn't as wowed by them as I thought I'd be. They were ok. I will definitely be back, but hope that they turn this more into a place where you're served rather than ordering and taking a seat as I can see that being very problematic on busy nights.

Have you ever had a restaurant experience where the service was so bad and you were so upset that all you could think about during your visit was how mad you were? That epitomizes my experience with Sunnyside Burger Bar on Friday night. The concept is amazing -- visit a trendy fast-casual burger joint... wait in line next to the bar so you can order a drink before you order food... then eat tasty gourmet burgers. However, "fast" is the last word I would use to describe this restaurant. It took about 45 minutes for us to get through the line from the front door to the register (and we were told it would take 15 minutes). There were empty tables all over the restaurant, so I couldn't understand why the line wasn't moving. After interacting with a cashier with a poor attitude, we waited an additional 35 minutes for food and no server ever dropped by our table to check on us during that long wait. The food was good though... I had the Hangover burger, which was really tasty. Overall, I would say that this place definitely needs to make some adjustments to their process. They have a fun atmosphere and a nice patio, a good concept, and some unique burger choices. I really think that they could have some potential once they get some serious kinks out. We will be back in a couple of months to give Sunnyside Burger Bar one last chance.

First things first, welcome to the Northside burger bar and company. I was nursing a hangover from the night before and the kids were hungry. Boom, everyone wins with a good burger. The story: we were sat in a booth rather quickly, no waiting on a Saturday night even though the place seemed busy. Unfortunately we had to wait about 15 mins before the manager stopped by to ask if we'd been taken care of... Drink orders go in and our server apologies profusely. No biggie, bring me food. Mama, the kids and I engage in a game off the shelf while we wait and all is well. 30 min later our food still isn't out and the waitress explains she didn't submit the order on the POS so the kitchen didn't receive the order.. I couldn't help but laugh like a lunatic. She apologies again and puts the order in promising to expedit it. Fine, bring me another beer. They shower our table with apps and promise to take care of us for the inconvenience. Sweet.. Now on to the food! The food: They had about 15 craft brews on tap. The Sunnyside wheat is what I stared with but that was a bad choice. I wasn't feeling it but this isn't a brewery review.. The fries are natural cut fries. They aren't bad aren't amazing but very good. The kettle chips I liked more than the fries, but I'm a fan of over cooked potatoes. I'd buy a bag of burnt chips if I could find it. The burger is not ground on site, therfore I ordered it well done. The bun was a good artesian roll with seeds all over the top of it, like an everything bagel. A little busy for what I was expecting but mama liked it and in the end that is all that matters. I ordered the hang over burger which adds bacon, hash Browns and an over easy egg to the burger. It was good but needed a healthy shot of salt and pepper to bring the flavors out. The bacon was awesome even for bacon.. I don't know what he damage was, they wouldn't bring me a check. I left a healthy tip for the service we received, it was a bad night and it be's like that sometimes. We'll go back, mama is picky but she liked the food so I'll give them another shot at the title for best burger in the Northside and update the review appropriately. Word.

(I saw another person say this but it really does sum it up perfectly.) I wanted very badly to like this place. It's a great location and a nice modernization of that building. Unfortunately, it has too many problems to give a good review. The ordering is just plain weird and confusing. My wife's burger was good but mine was sub par. We ordered one cooked medium and one well done but they both came out well. Not being able to cook to the customer's wants is a classic sign of a rookie cook or someone that plain just doesn't care. I'll go back to give them a second chance but they've got a lot of work to do.

Burgers are amazing, but tiny, and a little spendy for what you get. $45 (including 20% tip) for 2 little burgers, 2 drinks and 1 side of fries. Staff was a little snide, and could use some training. My bison was a little under cooked, which was fine until it called back for a 2:30am business meeting. Nice place, but dollar for dollar, there are better places to eat in the neighborhood.

The burgers are decent, but too small for the price. The sweet potato fries are good. All in all, there are much better burger options in the neighborhood.

Man I wanted to love you, I wanted to be gushing with praise like you were a summer blockbuster. I wanted to come here and get motivation to write a Yelp review (guess that part worked). This first sentence might be a tad misleading as it might lead you to believe I didn't like this place, sorry about that I am a confusing person sometimes. I likes the Sunnyside Burger Bar. My disappointment is I wanted to come away shouting that shit was the BOMB, and I didn't, I was satisfied and the burger was well worth coming back for again. There are also other intriguing options that could force me into another excursion to sample. You walk in and there is bar first thing that funnels you to a register. this reminds me of the check out at the Grocery store, its science that they put all the little items by the registers! Then you walk up to a register and you pay for your drink and what ever burger fixin you want. You sit down and the a waiter comes to the table??? They are there in case you want something else if you do then place an order with him or her and then pay them for what ever you ordered. I like ordering your food from the cashier I get that as it increases the velocity of you food delivery but paying at the register then paying waitstaff if you want something else is tedious. Food: Burger to bun ratio is a little off as the bun dominates but include all the toppings that come on most burgers it ends up being a tasty. I had the Hangover, Burger, Cheese, Bacon, Potatoes, Green Chilles & a Fried Egg. I enjoyed it but when I was done with it I had a I want more as in the portion size wasn't big enough for me. No one else had that feeling so its probably me. The fries were not really worth writing about, The onion rings were tasty and tasted as if they were hand battered and made on spot? We also ordered the homemade chips appetizer thing it was a big portion on chips on a tray with a dip that consisted of sour cream, chive & bacon! I would order this again. Will I return, more then likely but can I think of other places I would go get a burger from 1st most definitely. I do think Sunnyside is going to be successful and its interesting to see the gentrification getting this far north. If I do return I am going to get some Chile Cheese Fries from Chubbys acroos the street and sneak them in or get my burger to go and eat it across the street with my chubbys fries.

I guess they changed their ordering system as we just ordered like a normal restaurant. The burgers were ok...not great... service was quick and efficient. I like what they did to the building and there is a good sized parking lot which makes it easy. Overall it was good...but nothing that was overly impressive as far as the burgers.

I've been here twice, ordered different burgers and had the fries and onion rings. I like the food, I like the remodeled space (it's perfect for the building) and every employee I've come in contact with has been very friendly. The ordering system is just not well planned. I'm comfortable with the idea of ordering at a counter but you have to have a dedicated resource to make it work well. The bartender should be focused on making drinks and chatting with customers; someone else should be taking orders to avoid weird delays. I'll still return and hope the owner rethinks the approach to ordering. This restaurant has a ton of unrealized potential.

Came here the other day all excited to try it out after following the renovation of the old building. The interior is great--nice job on the look and feel of the place. The ordering process is really complicated and VERY inefficient. Go in, the hostess explains how it works, then stand in a line, order drinks, then go to another station (at least we did since other people were still jammed up at the one at the bar) to order your food. We were all standing at a second register right next to the entrance to the kitchen, so we were all in the way of the servers running in and out of the kitchen. It is just a very awkward way of ordering food. There were so many wait staff standing around doing not a lot while all these people were in line. Would be more efficient to have people order the food at the table. The wait staff still delivers the drinks and food but they are doing nothing while we go through the process of ordering, so the lines back up and it makes no sense. I was excited to get a "hand-crafted burger". I ordered The Gambler as the fried avocado sounded delicious. I ordered Pink, but got grey as it was overcooked. The toppings tasted pretty good, but I was disappointed with the burger itself. It was small, and did not even fit the small bun that it was served on. The meat did not have much flavor and again it was over cooked. For $9 I want a bigger juicier and more flavorful burger. I did not get the fries, but again, for $3 bucks, the serving size seemed a little small. The onion rings looked delicious but I did not try them. I was impressed they had Shiner Bock on tap (+1). I will not be in a hurry to go back.......so many other better burger joints. Hopefully the owners will improve the ordering process and more importantly the burgers since this is what they whole concept is based upon. Good luck as I like small/local businesses and it is nice to see as part of the revitalization of the Sunnyside neighborhood.

Where's the beef? Small patty:bread ratio. Not much flavor either. Despite the toppings on the ooh mami burger, I ended up dousing it with mustard. Weak fries. Good looking place. Nice staff. Ample parking.

I was visiting from out of town, and my son suggested this establishment for lunch. The burgers were fabulous, as well as unique. The staff went above and beyond in their service! Can't wait to visit again.. Next time going to try the boozy shakes!

Ok.....few things: 1) lots of employees asking the exact same thing or completely different things. 2) if it is crowded, you will feel stressed trying to determine what burger to get. 3) not all beers are on Happy Hour - ask! It only goes 3-6. 4) you will be asked what table you want. Answering with 'I don't care doesn't cut it'! 5) they bring you water. No need to stop and get it! 6) you don't have to go back in line to get another beer. 7) enjoyable spot. Food comes out quick and fairly tasty. I've only had one burger and I don't know which one it was as I was dealing with #2. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Excellent food! My party had the Bison Que Paso, (sp?) Hangover, and myself the Steakhouse. All of us were happy and pleased to see a quality yet casual neighborhood joint pop up...Sunnyside has been in need of a place just like this! We also got the fries and onion rings and shared amongst ourselves and we all enjoyed both. The fries were definitely better (best?) against fries elsewhere compared to similar burger joints (Larkburger, 5280, etc). The onion rings good but nothing really revolutionary or much different. If you like onion rings you'll like these, although not yet quite a must-try type of side. Which, if I could offer some constructive criticism, I feel like onion rings are often forgotten. They could elevate themselves creating a name for their rings, IMHO. The service - after two days in business I am very forgiving. They fought some tech glitches and what not and I can understand that. What I can say is the staff was EXTREMELY accommodating, thoughtful, and genuine. The people are great...I imagine once the kinks are sorted out the service will be outstanding. What seemed to be the managers/partners both independently stopped by to check on us and thank us for our business, which was not expected but definitely appreciated. As far as the concept, I think it's somewhat cumbersome and overcomplicated. I'm sure it will sort itself out over time but it almost seemed somewhat counter-productive. Kind of self service, kind of wait staff. I'm not a seasoned restauranteur, but as a consumer I tend to prefer the either-or. I will definitely be back and look forward to seeing this place grow. I'm thrilled they went with Sunnyside in the name to help bring recognition and awareness to the neighborhood. Welcome to the neighborhood! We're glad you're here!

So we just moved back into this neighborhood and after a full day of moving, some good food was much needed. Insert Sunnyside. Their burgers were delicious and the drinks on par. There was a large group of us and our waitress was beyond great. Now that this place is within walking distance, I plan on being a frequent visitor and can't wait to try more items on the menu!

We were actually heading to another place for dinner one night when we decided to change it up and give Sunnyside a try, and we were extremely pleased with that choice. The service was excellent and friendly, we were seated right away, and they had a parking lot which made things much easier than finding a street spot. It was rainy and cold otherwise we would have walked, but it's great to find a place with a real lot in this area of town. We both found the burgers and cocktails to be spot on, and the price was very fair too. We'll definitely come back to check out the patio which wasn't open the night we were there. The décor is pretty cool and looks like it was just done or redone since everything had a fresh vibe.

Awesome atmosphere on a rainy afternoon. Big garage doors open to a cozy patio, delicious burger and super friendly waiter. Great little parking area out back. I really liked this place.

This is the most ass backwards restaurant I've ever been to. You walk into a host that mumbles some kind of command and forces you into a line to stand at the bar. You order a drink and then stand in line for another 15 to 20 minutes until you get to the cashier and place your order for food. The staff chooses the table that you sit at and if you ask to change somewhere else there is obvious pushback. Once you close out your tab you sit at your assigned table and wait for one of the 30 waiters to walk by and hope that they stop at your table and get you another drink. Unless you ask for water you were stuck with the kids size cup that you have to refill 18 times. When you order another drink for another side item they open up a brand-new tab for your card forcing you to tip twice. The staff is rude and always annoyed when people ask about their system for their restaurant. Customer service is not their priority, you feel like a herd of cows being pushed through a chute. On the bright side it's a great location with a decent size parking lot and awesome ambience. The food has a lot of variety of types of burgers you get in you can make it as healthy or unhealthy as you want. For how long you stand in line at the food comes out rather quickly. Although the order is never correct in the three times we've been there. We're hoping that they change their system and get things set up more like a regular restaurant and will definitely be back.

Good atmosphere, beer selection, and service. However, the menu is greatly overpriced for what you get, and the fact that you have to pay extra for a side, doesn't help. Most likely won't go back.

Oh man, I had such high hopes for Chef Guard's highlands venture, but unfortunately my hopes left much to be desired. On my first visit, a busy Saturday night, I was excited upon entering the high energy and vibrant restaurant. The service was excellent, and on point, but the food was not even in the same ball park as TAG burger bar (should I even compare the two?). I figured busy night, kitchen under stress, I could let it slide and give it another go. So I tried again, and for the last time. The service failed miserably. The PM bartender did anyway. The day bartender engaged patrons in communal conversation, talked up the EPIC TAP TAKEOVER, and I was enjoying the home opener of the Rocks. Awesome afternoon right?? Then shift change happened. Apparently getting the server that missed the EPIC BREWINGs 9am tasting caught up was more important that seeing that paying customers were taken care of, or the group of drinkers whose bar tab would obviously be higher than mine. And that is where my sunny side burger bar journey ended. For life. Sans a burger.

Great beer, service at the bar was good! The burger choices are fun. I suggest larger patties to fit the bun and more suggestions for sauces beyond mustard and ketchup to compliment the gourmet style, the burger was a bit dry.

So.... Here on black Wednesday (day before thanksgiving) and the restaurant has changed their service to typical restaurant-style service versus order at the counter type service. It's a great choice! The restaurant has some fantastic burgers along with a great beer selection. The new style of service elevates the restaurant to a local favorite and one of Denver's prime burger venues. Now to try all of the beers....

Going to jump on the bandwagon here about the confusing ordering process. I had read about it before walking in and it was still a bit overwhelming. I appreciate the idea of getting people a drink as soon as they walk in, but in practice, it is inefficient and awkward to pay twice and manage your drink while paying for your burger. If you then get another drink while seated you pay yet a third time. Even if people get used to the process, it's still inefficient and awkward. I make this point because the burger is very, very good and I want the place in my 'hood to succeed. The kitchen was backed up which I'm willing to overlook as an opening week type of issue. Due to this, I believe, the fries were less than stellar: room temp and bland. The burger - it should speak to how confusing the process is that I'm just now getting to the burger - is on point. I got the one with jalapenos and it rivals Park Burger for the best burger I've had in Denver. My suggestion is to give the place a chance, but be prepared to deal with some oddities to get your food.

I want to give this place a 3.5....would bump it up to a 4 (maybe 5!) IF they started making their veggie patties in house! No excuse for a Boca burger these days... That said, it's a great neighborhood place by my house that I still go to maybe once or twice a month. I didn't experience the ordering confusion that other customers have because I usually sit at the bar and order there. Pros: -Parking (they have a big lot and there is always room) -Patio (going to be great in the summer) -Awesome topping selection (I usually get the Ooh Mami which has truffle aioli and gruyere cheese...SO good!) -Decent draft beer selection Cons: -Subpar veggie patty (maybe if I write it enough they'll change it up??) -You have to pay for a side, making the prices a little higher (although I do appreciate that it's roughly the same price for fries as for a simple salad, so there's no huge upcharge for a salad on the side) -Occasionally the wait is a little longer than expected when the place is dead (but oh well, you never know what's going on behind the scenes) Overall, definitely worth going to at least once to check out for yourself

Food was good, little on the small side for burger, bison, but tasty. Granted it is 4/20 and all, but bartender is slow, doesn't pay attention well and forgets everything. Should have grabbed a booth.

LOVE this place. Great craft beer selection as well as boozy shakes. I've tried most if the burgers and they am have all been too notch. Me and some friends have been engaging in some "burger off" competitions - me and my girlfriend putting this place up against Park Burger, Hop Doddy and Burger-Fi among others but this place is still our favorite. We have learned that the burgers here are a bit smaller than other places but the buns are awesome and from a local bakery and the meat and toppings are the freshest!

I had the best fish sandwich there last Saturday. Margaret was a rock star server who was incredibly attentive and gave me extra pickles!! I got to watch some tennis on the big screen while eating alone and I felt like I was at my local hangout. Everyone there was happy and friendly.

    (5)
  • Tiffany A.

Alright I'll give it another notch compared to the other reviews because the setup didn't bother me as much, I saw what they were trying to do, sure a little quirky, but other than that I'm sure they'll continue to work on that, the only struggle I had was no cash and to tip the gal that brought out food & refills. And was I supposed to tip bartender, cashier & server?? Make it a cashier/bar set up and then if you sit down go for the traditional route. The space was open and appreciated the general set up. Wish patio was more dog friendly. Ok as far as food, I've put it into the boat of what I would feel the competitors would be which is lark burger & park & co. And I would give it middle ground between lark being at a 3 and park & co a 5. I'll go into that a bit more below... But that's how I've gathered my rating at least in that comparison. My expectations in hearing about this new neighborhood spot was pretty high, but didn't quite meet it, I was hoping for some more versatile in their menu, everyone has your hangover burger and ect.. I was hoping to have a bit more inspiration if I wanted to make it a custom burger. My other expectation is the actual burger, you know when you have a legit burger, you can taste the meat and the quality, whether it's grassfed or not ect.. I wanted it to be a bit more, it was decent, averagish but nothing stuck out. Fries were abit on the too greasy/maybe too much seasoning & too hard (weird) boat for me. While in line I did have a sample of the cinnamon crunch milk shake - Delish! Good beer/cocktail selection. Overall decent burger place just had some higher expectations, the fact that's it's in my neighborhood and parking is easy (which is the only downside to park& co for me) I'd give it another go. Oh and I loved you could make your burger into a salad one of the 1st places I've seen in Denver to do that!

Redik ordering system. We had 3 tabs for the night. So confusing. Even the staff doesn't have the process down. The food is really good if it comes out as you ordered it, but I've seen a few times where that doesn't happen. If they would just shift to the standard full time server setup, it would be much better.

I experienced the WORST service of my life here this weekend. My boyfriend and I went in around 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, and the restaurant was completely empty except for a few people at the bar. We sat down and ordered some beers and an appetizer (which was about 3 pickle spears for $5, fyi). Both of these came out pretty quickly, but the server basically ran away after he brought us our beers, not giving us time to say that we were ready to order lunch. He stood at the bar and watched the game while we attempted to flag him down and get his attention. It was almost comedic how hard he was pretending to not notice us. After about 20 minutes of this, my boyfriend walked over to him to get the check. Another server brought us the check. We explained that we would have ordered lunch, if someone would have ever came and taken our order. She explained that there had been a mix-up among the staff about who was responsible to take our table. Her explanation validated our suspicion that the server was purposefully ignoring us, which was incredibly insulting and inexcusable for a nearly empty restaurant. We will NEVER go back here. Sorry for the rant. Bottom line: The servers here are jerks.

Really wanted to love this place but too many issues on our first visit. 1) The ordering system is completely backwards. Once it's busy the ordering system falls apart. 2) I ordered a cheeseburger and it came out with no cheese. When I asked if they could add cheese, the guy asked if I wanted it on the side or on the burger. I said on the burger! Then he asked, "Do you want that melted?" Obviously. 3) I asked for bacon extra crispy, and it came out completely uncooked and raw. I sent it back, and it came out raw....again! So I sent it back. And it came back raw again. 4) the burger meat itself tasted like a frozen patty from a local grocery store. Too small and too expensive. No need to go back. This place sucked. They butchered an American classic.

Been there twice in under a week because the burgers were so damn good! Beer selection is great. Nachos had more flavor than any other nachos with coriander mixed with the salsa! Had the fries, onion rings, fried pickles, Gambler, and Garden of the gods (over 2 visits and 2 people....) and all were exceptional. The ordering and paying process is questionable but since opening day they modified it and I'm sure it will continue to improve. I should give it less stars so it doesn't get busy and I can just walk here every night! More TVs would be nice to watch games when in the restaurant.

Sad to see all the negative reviews but they dug their own grave with the jacked up order process. Personally, I've only ever sat at the bar where the bartender takes your order and delivers your food to you. Easy peasy. I've had great service with the exception of once and I think their burgers are some of the best in town. Don't waste your money on the fried pickles though. $5 for 4 pickle spears is highway robbery by anyone's measure. My personal fave is the Que Paso with a side of onion rings! De-Lish! Anyway, hope they get their act together because it's a cool space with lots of potential.

Well.... Here's the deal... I LOVE new places ... I also LOVE creativity on a menu with cocktails and drinks... But here's where it gets weird.... When you enter you are ushered through the bar for a drink(regardless of whether you want one)... Which is fine(but weird)... We order our food and sides and drinks 40 bucks... Which is also fine.... We get our food and the burgers are kind of tiny and there's a big side of fries/rings...shouldn't the burger be huge???? Both burgers were spicy... where no spicy was expected or warranted (and I like spicy food generally) Completely underwhelming, why isn't the entree the star here????.... Food was decent but not really what Id expect at that price point...The one glimmering part of the experience was the Count Chocula shake.... It clearly needs some polish to the business model/portions... Probably won't be back to find out if it gets better though.... As other yelpers have posted, it's odd how you have to pay the tip at the point of sale, and then have a server waiting on you, it's a dynamic I don't think that works very well.

My wife and I had set out on a mission this past Friday night to check what the new place was all about and wanted to relax from a stressful week. That didn't happen. We had high hopes as 5280 magazine made it sound very enticing. As we drove up, the line was out the door which was definitely expected for a new hip burger joint in Denver. We were greeted by a very energetic "hostess" of sorts who told us the run down. She was delightful and made us more excited to dine there. She explained how you walked past the bar where you can order a craft brew to enjoy while you wait to order your food at the register. Fantastic concept! Terrible execution. The greeter/hostess told us it would be about a 15 minute wait in line to get to the register to order. Which is totally doable. However she was completely misinformed or just straight lied to us. We waited in line for 45 minutes to even get to ORDER the food. Strike #1. I didn't want to grab a drink while passing the bar because I would have finished it in the time it took us to place our order and for us to enjoy our meal with it. We finally got to the register to order our food and pay. The lady working the register completely ignored us for a good 60 seconds while my wife and I just stood there waiting for her to acknowledge us. She finally looks up and takes our order, with a very annoyed attitude. We were told that a server will be with us soon to see if we need anything else, like a beer after we sit down. She had a very snooty and bitchy attitude the entire time we we at the counter, and was short with me. Strike #2. We were pretty put off at this point. We were told to sit at a table they had pre-selected for us, however we approached the table and there were already people sitting there. I went back to tell the lady at the register and she told us to go to the table next to it. My wife was distraught at the whole experience so far, that is all we could talk about. 25 minutes went by before a server came to even check up on us. Strike #3. I never had a chance to order a beer after we passed by the bar. We told him that we had been told to move tables from our original assignment and that may have caused some confusion for the food runners to deliver our food. 5 minutes later the food comes. Which was in fact really good. Props on that part at least. The server never returned once we actually received our food to see if we needed anything else, which when I wanted a beer, I never got another chance to. Strike #4? (Aren't there only 3 strikes in baseball?) This entire experience took an hour and a half total for a "fast casual" dining joint. My wife and I were really upset at the experience, but I tried to give them the "just opened" card to hopefully iron things out over the next few months. Atmosphere inside and on the patio was really well done. Fantastic concept of a restaurant, just really poorly executed. We will be back in a few months to give it another shot. We just hope things improve or we will not be recommending this place to our friends.

The burgers here are good-not outstanding but decent. I ordered the hippy dippy which had roasted beets, arugula and goat cheese. It's on the pricier side though based on the burger size compared to somewhere like park burger. It was fun to check out though and the service was really good. Overall a good experience but nothing too special.

This restaurant is a unicorn. Magical and generally illusive, you're about to get lucky. The kitchen serves up burgers that must be crack-based. Beer taps overflow with joy...err...Colorado's finest brews. This spot is my happy place.

This is most fabulous restaurant in the sunny side neighborhood. With so many new restaurants popping up in Denver it's refreshing to find a place with not only has fantastic food but service to match. My new go to place for the summer.

We just met friends for happy hour. The waitress forgot to place my order but placed the order for my fiance. She apologized but it still took twenty minutes for me to get my food. The waitress said she would take half off our bill but she didn't. That's a problem!

Yummy! AfterI rode my bike twenty or so miles I was hungry on my way to class, I saw Sunnyside decided to give it a try .....Damn Good!!! Great Burger, I had the Que Paso with a cup of green chili. The chili came out piping hot and spicy hot too. Craft soda pops and looks like a good beer selection. Hip space . Overall good experience. Oh yeah Meg gave me great service.

I agree with so many reviews on here. ---space was renovated nice, has potential, just not being used efficiently. ---ordering system was unnecessarily complicated. I know place strive to be different, but this is different-in a bad way. ---burger was BLAND. But everything else was over-seasoned. I tasted a lot of black pepper, which is my least favorite spice as it is over-bearing if not used sparingly. Had high hopes, they were not met. Too many other spots in this neighborhood do burgers, and do them well.

Food and Drinks are great, as well as your atmosphere! The burgers are really great too but if you're going to charge $10 for burgers, you really need to make the meat larger or at least optionally larger. You're a burger place so ... if you want to last like the Cricket but in in LoHi, this option will make you a game changer. Restaurants are a plenty in this still growing neighborhood

We visited on Friday evening, on day 4 after opening. Many of the reviews I read were about the ordering / paying process, and I agree, it is a bit jacked, but it appears mgt is making adjustments. You no longer have to pay for your drink prior to ordering food. Sunnyside Burger Bar reminds me a bit of Smashburger.. you walk up to the counter and order your food, and they bring it to you. I am not sure what the hold up at SBB is and why there is a bottleneck at the register, but I am sure they will quickly figure it out and make the necessary adjustments. So, anyway, once we entered, the hostess explained the concept and directs us to the drink line. Before we even ordered drinks, we were offered samples of the sunnyside wheat, which was a nice touch. We ordered our drinks and as we waited our turn to order food, we were informed of what table to sit at. I did find that a bit strange... either seat us when we enter and give us table service, or let us walk up to the register to order and I can find my own table. But anyway, not a big deal, just odd. Ok, finally ordered food and sat at our assigned table. Food did take a bit long to come out, but again it is only day 4, so I am forgiving. But as we sat and waited, I watched the line at the door become longer and longer and I was very happy we arrived before the rush. I was able to watch the staff and I must say, they are on it. As we waited for food, we were offered more samples... boozey shake and sweet potato fries, yes please. Food arrives. I ordered the Little Italy on a gluten free bun. First bite was good, but all bun, so I took off the top of the GF bun (since it was a bit big and GF bread can be a bit dry). I ate the rest with a knife and fork. I was pleased with the flavors, but I wish I tasted the meat a bit more... I tasted mostly toppings. The patty could be a bit more substantial. We also had the fresh cut fries, but unfortunately, those fell short. Portion size is small, but most disappointing, they tasted stale. All in all, I was happy with SBB and I will return once they've been open for a few months and have the kinks worked out. As we were leaving, the staff was passing out full order of fries to patrons who were seated and waiting on their food. Again, another fantastic gesture on their part to say "we are sorry for the wait" and it showed they actually care.

The good: the staff was incredibly nice and I thought the layout was nice. The bad: the ordering system is silly. They've attempted to make it simple and streamlined, which they've failed miserably. It's awkward. The food was alright, not bad by any means, but not good enough to compete with the other burger houses around town, and to be 100% honest I did not feel well all afternoon after eating there.

My bf and I finally made it out to try this place. We were excited, why not? It's in a hip neighborhood. Soooo, to make a long story short, I hope they survive. Poor concept on the ordering part. It wasn't busy when we were there and we still had to wait a bit. Burgers are good but not outstanding. Fries are so so. I think a Lark Burger had better.

This place has great potential, but it has some issues to figure out. I'm leaving this review with hopes that somebody from the business will see it and fix things. I will change my review once things get better. - Before I get to the issues, here are the pro's: Fries were on the less-greasy side, compared to other pub grub, and they were above-average in terms of taste. They sport all kinds of Colorado microbreweries including Diebolt, which is less than one block away. The menu has suggested food/beer pairings, which I think shows a certain level of craft and pride. Prices are more reasonable than other pubs. The patio is nice and the interior is fresh. Our server was super nice, as were other workers that we came in contact with. - The issue: Confusing/awkward/inefficient method of service/ordering/seating I arrived with my roommate and my dog. Not knowing how the service works, I tied my dog outside near a patio table and seated myself while my roommate got in line. I sat for about 15 minutes before getting service (having not been officially seated, I don't think there was a server assigned to me). My roommate was still in line at this point, so I waved him over to make an order with me, but it turns out he was waiting in line with a beer? (he said he had already paid for and received a beer and was in line waiting for a table). There were consistently 5-10 empty tables and a line of about 30 people, so this makes no sense... anyway, I ordered fries and a beer. They came quickly enough, and as we were eating them and drinking our beer my roommate noticed that the people waiting in line in behind him had just been seated (totaling 25 minutes). Again, there were multiple tables that just sat empty for at least 5-10 minutes, so the line could have (and should have) been greatly reduced. Our server informed us that the service style is "polished casual", but they definitely have some polishing to do on this system. I'm excited for this place to figure things out and I will definitely be going back to check things out, but as of now, we were super dumbfounded at how inefficient this restaurant is at seating guests and getting them their orders.

Please just seat people and take their order!!! 3 stars is generous because the entire flow and process of ordering is so outrageously ineffective. MY wife was going out with the girls, so my 3 yr old and I decided to try SBB. Stood in line to get a beer, got my beer, but the group in front of me was getting cocktails so I was just waiting behind them while those were made..for a long time. A server finally had me go backwards out of that line to get in another line to order food. However, the kids menu was put at the table so I could not see that to order for little man. I ended up ordering blind without looking at menus. Paid and tipped at the tip jar check-out. Got seated, then had someone waiting on our table immediately. Now I'm wondering if I need to tip again?? Entire process was the antithesis of relaxing, and you could tell the entire staff was exasperated by it. There were not many people there as it was early, and everyone was still running into each other like the keystone cops. The burgers were very good, which bumped this review from 1 star to 3. The fries were very soggy--not even the 3 yr old liked them. I brought them home and crisped them up in the oven and they were exponentially better. The space is very attractive, and I'll go back once they transition to conventional seating and ordering. Absolutely not until then.

I had the Hangover with added sautéed onions and Swiss cheese. I didn't get the cheese and there wasn't that much in the way of onions on it but I found the food and atmosphere to be very satisfying. The waitstaff was pleasant, the decor appealing, and I really wish I hadn't been there for lunch so I could try a boozy shake. I definitely plan on returning.

Loved the burgers and loved the atmosphere that sunnyside provided. The ordering process was horrendous but you quickly forget about it after you sink your teeth into "the hangover" burger. I'll have to give this place another shot down road. We love what you're doing sunnyside just fine tune a few things.

Awesome burgers, with lots of options - beef, bison, turkey, salmon or veggie -- and delicious toppings. My favorite so far is the ooh, ma (it's spelled something like that....) with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, gruyere cheese and a hint of truffle oil. Best burger ever. Really. Now that I've discovered it, I can't bring myself to order anything else. I'm stuck in an ooh ma box - but a delicious box it is! Yes, they have some kinks to work out in their ordering process. They are very new, and their system needs some tweaks because there is often a bottleneck at busy times like Friday and Saturday night -- but it's and easily fixable problem (and they did pass out free beer and onion rings last Friday to those people who had to wait in line). In the meantime, the burgers are stellar, the ambiance is fun and the staff is very friendly.

I was excited to give this new neighborhood burger joint a shot--think they've literally been open 3 days. Space was open and pretty well done so kudos for that. Order process was somewhat odd and required multiple touches and herding by staff--hostess--bar--actual person taking order--then full service at table. I get driving people by the bar, but we were there for lunch and unfortunately couldn't linger for a beer. Craft beer selection looked pretty strong so that's a plus. The order process seemed quite disjointed as there was no natural flow to guide you the correct way, hence the multiple touches by all the staff--not sure if you would have been expected to close out your tab at the bar or if the drinks would have been added to the order after you place your food order. They do offer full service at the table so there would be yet another transaction if you want another drink--might need to rethink that one as running people's cards repeatedly is crazy inefficient as others have mentioned. My burger and fries were pretty tasty in general--build your own with cheddar and bacon--they ask what temp so that's nice. I found the fries a touch greasy--the onion rings were probably my favorite. The burger was good, but not the best I've had--touch competition in NW Denver with H-Tap and Park Burger nearby. Lot's of staff around and service was good even though there was some confusion about how things work. I'll give it another shot as there is potential! Hope they iron out the rough spots.

I am starting to sour on all the burger joints popping up that are trying to complicate a dish that doesn't need much refinement to be perfect. And then charging and arm and a leg for doing it. The burger itself was very good, but quite small. The sweet potato fries were thick like steak fries (too mealy) and overseasoned. The bill for two people was over $80. For 2 burgers, 2 beers, 2 wines 1 salad and 1 order of fries (there was a time in America where your fries came for free with your burger!). A glass of pinot was $10 and frankly, it was a weak pour. And you need a six sigma black belt to understand how to order your food and beer, even after you read the 5 step instructions posted on the wall about how to navigate the line, bartenders and different registers. Ordering food should not be this complicated. Perhaps most galling, is the default recommended tip on the iPad of 15% or 20% for an order that you place while standing up. The space itself is great, with an open air back wall with nice outdoor seating. Good lighting and ambiance. Although we had to move tables because of our direct view of the toilet every time the bathroom door swung open.

Cool concept and decent burger. 3 stars because the fries were so salty they were inedible. Fyi I did get my food to go.

For only being open 3 weeks the concept is great and the food is excellent. Yes, they may be working out a few bugs, but still the overall quality of food and atmosphere is excellent!! The staff goes above and beyond to get you waited on. Better than sitting down and wondering when someone will come to serve you. They may be challenged a bit during the winter when it is really crowded and tables are full. Nowhere to wait.

Ordering process is a bit confusing but not a deterrent. Menu options are very appealing--creative burger options. Environment is good, lots of patio seating available and very nice staff. It was a bit loud at lunchtime, though ideal for children. There is also a sizable parking lot. The menu is overpriced. I ordered a salad with a veggie burger added. Total came to $10.80. I'll describe the meal as good. The veggie burger tastes EXACTLY like a Morningstar black bean burger but slightly thicker. The dressing on the Love U Long Time didn't have taste--only seemed like oil. I enjoyed the meal but feel it was worth maybe $6 or 7. The salad was also served in a throw-away bowl--not cool. Be green and serve in-house diners on real plates. My friend ordered a burger with the beef patty. She much enjoyed the taste of the burger, but it was very modest in size and the meat was far overcooked. She also noted it was far overpriced for a small burger, especially considering the cost of the burger is only the burger, nothing on the side. Prices or portion size are going to have to give for Sunnyside BB to stay in business!

Very interesting selection of burgers. Something to please everyone's palate. Awesome selection of local beers and a good atmosphere. Ordering process is complicated but with some tweaks this place will be awesome!!

  • Kristen C.

Burger was tasty but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. The burger patty itself was thin and small. I payed $9 for a small burger that didn't even come with a pickle on the side. The price should include a side such as fries. The place has good potential but needs to change how they do their menu and pricing.

Tried this place for the first time and will for sure be back. They had a lot of burger options on the menu between toppings and the patties themselves. They offer salmon, veggie, turkey and bison burgers. The booze shakes sounded delicious but I am yet to try one. Very friendly staff and tasty food highly recommend!

After several months of renovating the building which used to be a pizzeria located at the corner of West 38th Avenue and Lipan Street, this burger bar offers up some pretty tasty vittles. Offering 12 different specialty burgers, Sunnyside Burger Bar brings us gastropub fare in a laidback atmosphere. We've eaten there several times since its opening and have yet to be dissatisfied with our experience. During our most recent visit, we invited a friend who said (of the Little Italy Burger), "I now have a favorite burger!" Regardless of which sandwich you choose, they are all served on a toasted bun, various fixin's and love from the chef. You also have a choice of meat (or non-meat) so you don't have to settle for beef. Each time we have visited, however, my husband and I always get the Colorado Bison. How they can make a lean meat like that taste like you're eating a slice of heaven is far beyond my comprehension. Oh, and what's a burger with fries or rings? Well, which ever you desire, Sunnyside Burger Bar's got you covered. We typically get one order of each to share, which is more than plenty,...even among three people. This joint has a great list of beers both on tap on in bottle not to mention, wine, cocktails, and "boozy shakes". We haven't ventured down the shake lane since I'm lactose intolerant, but perhaps when I have a few days off and plenty of time alone, I'll try one. Come for dinner or come for the happy hour which happens twice, daily featuring $3 select craft beers, $4 wine, and $4 well cocktails.

I wanted so much more from this place. I like creative efficiencies and I thought the cool ordering system would add to the experience but it was just confusing and called for me to tip at three different times during my meal. I honestly felt like I was going through the line at Furr's Cafeteria like I did with my grandmother when I was a kid. I was also a little disappointed by the food but I don't know if that's because it wasn't good or if it was because I was in the mood for Uber Eats burgers. (That burger knocks my socks off virtually every time.) I wanted to love it. I did not. (I ordered the burger with avocado, BBQ sauce and maybe some onions? I can't even recall. My husband is a huge meat eater and rarely meets a burger he doesn't like and even his reaction is just...meh. I would go back again once to see if it was just a bad day but i would skip ordering the beer because I had to carry it with me AND try to dig my credit card out of my wallet at the same time. Awkward. I hope my next experience is better but if it is not I will not go back again.

Hit and a miss, its a flop, great beers, great atmosphere, great place to get a $3 burger for $9, plus $3 for fries. Recommend going here before dinner elsewhere. Good parking situation and outdoor patio.

Great addition to the neighborhood! Yummy burgers, fun vibe and friendly staff. They have great non-traditional burgers (I love the Hippy Dippy with a turkey burger- really juicy and flavorful unlike most others) and their alcoholic milk shakes are ridiculously good!

My wife and I went to the Burger Bar at 8 on a Saturday night. The place was pretty quiet. We had our month old son with us and only had a short time to enjoy a meal before we needed to get him home. Apparently the waitstaff was in the midst of deciding who was "cut" because 3 different servers stopped by to tell us they didn't know who our server would be. I finally asked if someone could get us a drink while they figured it out. It should be noted that they are open until 11pm. After a while we finally got drinks and placed an order. In addition to our burgers my wife ordered a salad. At 8:55 we got our food, everything together. Do salads not come out first any more? In retrospect it's good that it didn't because my wife's burger was completely raw. Not a little pink but raw. She didn't eat a bite. Of course no one came by to check bc all the servers were rolling silver ware and making us feel like we were a in the way of them leaving (even though the establishment was open another 2 hours). My wife ate the salad and we asked for the burger to be taken off the bill so that we could leave, by this point there wasn't time for a new burger. My advice, treat customers how you would like to be treated.

Food - great. Delicious sweet potato fries. I got a bison burger that was nicely done. My wife loved her Ooh Mami burger. Service - good, friendly staff, attentive, timely. Music is good, but a tad loud. We sat inside and it looks like the back patio seating area is nice as well. Overall a good experience and we will be back. Welcome to the hood Sunnyside Burger Bar!

A welcome upbeat addition to the neighborhood. And a gold star for trying a new process for ordering. But in busy times it doesn't work. I don't like to order and pay twice, all while waiting to be seated. The portions for both the burgers and fries are very small for the price. $5 for a handfull of sweet potato fries and $8 for a burger that's slightly larger than a slider? The food quality was average and I went home hungry. Total bill for 2 beers, 2 fries, and 2 burgers with tip = $40. That doesn't add up for me.

Okay people.. Let's get it straight here everyone is rating this place poorly based in a unique ordering design? I get it there are a few kinks but the food is good and the staff is on their game so let's give them some credit. I personally think whoever opened this place was just a raging alcoholic who wanted his damn beer while h waited for his food. I'll be back to try another delicious burger I could give a damn about how I have to order as long as the food is worth what I'm paying.

Words can't even explain the difference between a burger joint- and Sunnyside Burger Bar. Besides the fact that it is one of the best burgers in Denver, the staff is by far one of the best I have ever experienced. Kim the manager is a host unlike no other. For their first Friday open they kicked ass- amenities literally pouring out the front door, hand crafted cocktails that'll have you begging for more, and a beer list that tops any of those in LoHi. Our server Megan was amazing. Seriously the most fun, happy person you will ever meet. Megan as well as the entire staff is overly educated on the menu, inside and out. Everyone NEEDS to check this place out before it's no longer a hidden secret. Try the Hugo cocktail, the Gambler Burger and the Hangover Burger- also they have fried avocado- FRIED AVOCADO, yea get on that. Please keep up the good work Burger Bar, your only going up from here!

Ate there on their first open night. I think the place is going to get better and it was good enough that I will return to check it out. If you're going to do burgers in a neighborhood that already has Park, Highland Tavern, and Highland Tap, however, you have to win on more than just a tasty burger. This place has the potential to beat those others on ambiance and experience but isn't there yet. The staff was incredibly friendly and some parts of the fast casual/casual combo totally work. However, making me pay twice so that I can have the pleasure of ordering with my beer in my hand makes no sense and is awkward. If I order a burger with no bun (lame, I know) and you serve it to me on a tray with paper rather than on lettuce, a plate, or in a disposable dish, I will have to cut and eat paper with my tasty burger. Sad. And the price point for a side of fries means the portion should be bigger. I feel critical, but if you're gone play in a crowded space, you gotta be awesome.
